Also the plan from the previous thread. Less chance of being bottlenecked than if we spam one entrance.

I have to say, I like the idea of everyone going in at one entrance and then splitting up once we're inside if we have to. Since they've probably split their defenses between the three entrances, attacking all of them exposes us to the maximum amount of firepower, whereas going all out on one entrance means less defenders and more attackers.

And I say we attack tonight.
    >> Anonymous 12/06/09(Sun)18:24 No.7032300
    >>7032257
The idea with hitting one entrance in the middle of the night is to overwhelm it with superior firepower before reinforcements arrive and then take advantage of our superior close combat capabilities.

By spreading out we let the enemy make full use of their heavy guns and superior numbers.
    >> Arios !R8dlr4voEI 12/06/09(Sun)18:24 No.7032307
Problem with the Zaku rush one entrance plan is that if the feddiess get lucky and see us coming they could retreat to the other two entrances and ambush us as we pursue them out. With the attack from multiple angles plan we could potentially drive them out into Jolyne's firing line (not a place I would like to be).
    >> I apologized on 4chan !!O1JS15Z6lxy 12/06/09(Sun)18:24 No.7032309
    >>7032244

Your plan could still work. You replace the Hildolfr with the 3 J types (maybe jolyne too), armed with Magella's, you have them fire all of their leg rockets at one end of the base. Drawing their attention, then your squad attacks the other side, takes out the fortifications, and attacks from the rear.

On the other hand, a frontal assault would ensure more firepower in a single area, and strength in numbers. The downside would be the chance of enemy forces escaping when attacked.

I'd say we choose between these two plans and get on with it. I kind of wanted to finish this arc today.
    >> Anonymous 12/06/09(Sun)18:25 No.7032312
    >>7032257

    This.

Also if we are waiting for the Hildorf, we could assault two of the entrances and have Hildorf and Jolyne covering third, picking off any feddies that might escape.

    >> Bill Murray !!WYG9L8p7tJh 12/06/09(Sun)18:29 No.7032365
HOW ABOUT THIS FOR US TO FUCKING DO SOMETHING ALREADY

Most of our forces amass in the rear entrance, ready to rush in.

Jol and a few others long range attack/hopefully demolish one entrance. This distracts the enemy to there. We use the distraction to ZERG RUSH right on in, while Jol and her crew switch to watching the last entrance.

Give the long-range unit Magella Cannons, and us and Ruubens have Bazookas. Give Zol and one other guy Shotguns.

    This counts.

You arm up your second Zaku Squad with long range Magella's and you all move out to attack the Mine. You decide to order the Hildolfr to drop early anyway. Just in case.

The sun is setting as you walk out into the desert, to Boatmurdered.

At some point along the walk you get close to Ruuben's MS and have a private conversation.
"So, why WERE you pretending to be man?" You ask.

"I come from Texas Colony, and well, we do things differently their. None of the recruitment officers were allowing women to sign up there. So I had to put on a fake mustache and pretend to be a man. Luckily there's no medical if you sign up from Texas Col so it was pretty easy from there. Of course I had to sign up with Engineering because the recruiter for that had the worst eyesight."

"He'd have to be fucking blind. Did NOBODY notice afterwards? Also, why keep wearing once you got to earth?"

"I just kept to myself mostly, I mean nobody every really paid to much attention to me you know. I had to keep pretending to be a man because TECHNICALLY it's illeagal to lie about your medical details..."

    "But, surely the Depot Doctor?"

"Nope. Got lucky, no womens problems I guess"

    "But showers!"

Essentially, Ruubens has been damn lucky to get put out to a podunk base here in Arizona, a proper military base would have seen through it fairly quickly.

You reach the Boatmurdered at midnight. You can see high, concrete towers with 180mm cannons in them on each entrance. They have lit up the general area with spotlights. There are also several mg nests. You can't see any enemy tanks or mobile suits.

    YOU BEGIN THE PLAN.

Aside from distracting the enemy. Jolyne's unit is also under orders to use their artillery to destroy the tunnel entrances if the enemy numbers start to get to large. After doing so they move to a different entrance and guard that from escaping enemies.

You three stealthily move up close to the western entrance and prepare for Jolyne to begin her attack. After about a minute you hear the explosions and thromps of rockets and 180mm shelling. Hopefully taking out the guard towers first.

You take this oppourtunity to attack.

You pop up out of cover and hit the first 180mm tower with your Bazooka, you don't wait to see if you successfully take it out and toss a smoke grenade.
The three of you then quickly charge the position. You hear the *thump* of the second guard tower firing randomly at you. Both you and Ruubens fire in the direction of the sound.

The smoke clears just as you reach the open entrance. The first Tower was destroyed by your Bazooka shot, the second one is showing battle damage but still functional.
It can't traverse sufficiently to track you however and Zolomon finishes it off by sticking his Shotgun in slit and firing.

You can still hear explosions from the other side of the base. There are currently no tanks visible down the corridor.

    YOUR ORDERS?

You take standard breaching positions. You carefully look left and then right, using your finger camera to check each... well, according to the map, they used be haulage vehicle garages.
To look at the finger cam monitor, you have to push the Federation Radio out of the way, reminding you to turn it on.
    (I totally forgot as well.)

It comes to life and you quickly tap in to federation chatter.

"... heavy fire! I say again! It looks like a squad of Zaku's with Arti guns! The defense towers have been taken out. They've got us ranged! Try to move to exit two and flank them!"

"Can anyone else raise Exit 1? I heard something about smoke and then nothing..."

You check your radio signal, it's pretty weak, but you try to signal to Jolyne to bring down the eastern exit and move on to the next one.

You manage to find and ambush four tanks before they're able to start up. A couple look like they were under repair, but it's better safe than sorry.

You reach the central shaft. It has been collapsed in. Several tanks spot you. You toss a cracker grenade into the middle killing a couple more, you dash out giving the rest of your squad freedom to move.
Things are hectic in the close quarters, you have to toss your Bazooka and pull out your sword. Tanks begin trying to pick their targets and their 150mm fire is hard to dodge.
You don't have time to check on the other two, and you dive into the fray, meleeing the tanks and trying to make yourself a moving target, but without exposing your back. You take a couple of strong hit's to the chest, but are saved when Zol buttons it with his 90mm Wrist Vulcan, you regain your balance and shank the tank.

You just manage to dive out of the way of incoming fire from another squad of tanks coming in from the northern passageway.

"Ruubens! Leg rockets down the Northern passageway!" You order, hoping she's in a position to fill it out as you block another 150mm blast with your shield. You leap on top of the tank and gun your thrusters, melting through it with your leg rockets and causing an ammo explosion.

The whoosh of leg rockets confirms Ruubens hearing your order. Then the entire area is blanketed in obscuring dust as Jolyne brings down the Eastern Exit.

We're going to be glad of these relatively quiet times once the Federation starts taking advantage of its massive resource advantage and starts throwing GMs and Balls at us like a swarm of hornets, of course by then we'll hopefully be on track for a Gelgoog or possibly a newtype mobile armour depending on how things go.

    That'll be route B.

You can hear the mine shaking as she and her squad begins bombarding the last undamaged guard towers with long range fire, as you explore the other rooms.
The first appears to be another collapsed mineshaft, you can see tracks and huts from where the tanks and the men must have been sleeping.
You zoom in as you spot a heat source.

"Hey! Isn't that Plato?" Ruubens spots.

It is indeed, he is bruised and dirty, his hands are still handcuffed together, but he appears not to worse for the wear.
You check the area and pick him up. He appears to be shouting, you turn on the mike in your finger.

    "THEY HAVE FIVE MOBILE SUITS!"

This is NOT really what you want to hear.

    "Where!?" You quickly ask.

    "NOT HERE! AFTER..."

"You can speak normally, there's a mike beside your foot."

"Oh, thanks. When my plane crashed, I managed to bail out at the last minute. Unofrtunately they caught me. I guess lightning doesn't strike twice huh? Anyway, once they knew that we knew where they were, they were going to stage a full assault on the Depot. The tank commander said no because he had a company still in the shop, so the leader of the MS Unit. Sermovente or something, went alone! He's gone to attack the base by dawn! They've been observing our patrol patterns for months! They know that around 5 is when our patrol pattern is weakest! What they didn't know would be that you'd mount an attack so fast!"

    "We've got to get back!"

If you run, you could make it back by 5 am. Which will be about dawn.

You dash outside and order Jolyne to collapse her entrance. Hefitng your bazooka, you do the same to yours.

You then hoof it back to base. Radio range is still retarded due to minovsky density, hopefully it will thin out on the run.

Meanwhile, inside the base. The twenty engineers discover that they are trapped inside, they attempt to escape but fail, causing a cave in that collapses a large part of the mine on their heads.

Not too much. Essentially, if you can't do it by 15 minutes, then you can't do anything. Luckily, the cables are designed to be fixed easily in the field.
You manage to disconnect the broken connecter and stretch the remainder together.
It's sort of hard to explain. Basically you re-attatch the leg cable, but it's a little shorter, and it doesn't work QUITE as fast as it used to.

The day when they stary internalising this things the better.

You quickly run hell for leather back to the base. Unfortunately the Minovsky density fails to drop any lower. You bring it up with Ruubens.

"Yeah, it's because we've got a southerly wind. Somewhere down in middle america there was this MASSIVE minovsky discharge caused by some kind of experimental combat emmiter. Panama I think. Anyway, all of the minovsky particles it spread keep getting blown up across the area whenever we get a southern wind. In fact it accounts for about 50% of all the particles we get up here. Makes you think huh?"

In infrared you see a distant plume of flame descend from the sky.

"Fuck! That's the Komusai with the Hildolfr! It's making it's drop! They must have pushed it and made the it early!"

"Screw it! Everyone begin leapfrogging!" you order.

You jump up, and in the distance you can now see the base. Black smoke rises up from it.
As do the flashes of light from battle.
    SOMEONE'S still fighting at least.

The journey takes a further 15 minutes. You land on what was supposed to be the test area for the Hildolfr, and are greeted to a scene of carnage.
Destroyed Zaku parts lie everywhere, smoke and carnage, craters wider than your Zaku and death across the field.

In the middle is the Hildolfr, a single 120mm sized hole in it's cockpit.

Leaning up against it, is a one legged Zaku I, there are holes in it's legs and arms, but it still manages to raise a gun against you.

It then trades the security password.

"Sir, I would like to inform you that your test areas make mean decoy fields." says Gabriel Zola.

"Zola with a sense of humour? It must be brain damage." Ruubens notes.

The 68th Depot although damaged, is not totally destroyed. The two Zaku 1's with your training were able to kite them into the test area, where your training targets acted as decoys, and they were able to keep the enemy occupied until the Hildolfr arrived. Unofrtunately, without doing a proper shakedown, the Hild lacked accuracy and was only able to accurately target close or stationary targets.
It sill managed to account for four of the enemy mobile suits. The other Zaku 1 managing to take the last out in a mutually assured destruction scenario.

The acquired test data is collected by the 603rd squadron and they leave via Komusai back into space. The Hildolfr's performance apparently is deemed worthy of re-evaluation, and since the damage to it was relatively minor (aside for a big hole in the cockpit).

    Jolyne - Zaku II Cannon
Ruubens - Zaku IIJ "El Muerto Gigante"

Plato is the other pilot. We stick him in the Zaku I, put Jolyne in the Hildolfr, and then either put Gabriel in the Zaku II Cannon or put him in our old Zaku IIJ and put Elaine in the Zaku II Cannon.

Or we leave Gabby in the Zaku I and put Plato into the Zaku II Cannon, leaving Elaine in "El Muerte Gigante" and Jolyne in the Hildolfr. I like this option. Just put Plato into something expendable when we want him to do some scouting.

Things I know for a fact it's caused:
Strauss was assigned to the part of Loum to protect the Musai's there instead of the Jormagand. As a result his fighting skill was not observed directly by Dozle, and he was not made Shin Matsunaga's wingman.
Instead he is assigned as our CO for Operation Elephant.

The Loki improved the survival rate of Mastodon Battalion. Originally the entire force would have been so depleted that it would have to retreat back into space.
Instead we defeated the Mexican army and destroyed this Land Battleship.
As a result it will not take part in the Battle of Odessa

Reduced the amount of time it takes to develop beam weapons by over 2 weeks. This will increase the number of Gelgoogs developed. It also effects the development time of the Pezun Project.

Captured and early Guntank prototype, Zeon is more cautious of Federation efforts in this area.
Saved the 67th depot, saved most of their Zakus
Gabrial Zola from AoZ is for some reason stationed at the Depot. I still haven't worked out why yet.

They weren't terrible, they were just fairly average (except for Shiro's invinciball madness), usually in Gundam we mostly see things from the PoV of aces or people well on the way to being aces, whereas the only person on that level in 08th was Norris Packard. And yes he probably would have managed to kill them all if he hadn't had other priorities to kill the Guntanks instead.

Nothing. But it WAS there at the Battle of Odessa, now it won't be. So that's three stupidly heavy caliber guns less to worry about.

Nothing special but if it was there and it's not going to be any more it means the Federation is going to have a tougher fight.

Of course it's possible that with that not there they might chose to direct a few more forces leaving somewhere else weakened, with the butterfly effect in full swing it's impossible to predict anything specific now except for "Amuro will pilot the RX-78-2 and Char will be his rival"

Okay. I actually like that model of LB more than the Big Try because it has a realistic amount of smaller caliber point defense guns. So that you can do more than have it sit back and lob shells. And all three main guns can be fired forwards.

Now, the other thing we still need to work out is whether Zolomon really is a Newtype.

    Or whether we are.

Or for that matter whether Elaine is; she did switch off her targeting computer, so she might be using the Force instead.

By the way, a couple of things:

Do we call David's original Zaku II "El Muerte Grande" or "El Muerte Gigante", because I've seen both names used.

If we're sticking with "El Muerte Grande" may I suggest giving the other name to Jolyne's Hidolfr. I'm thinking about us possibly giving our group a "theme" later on. I'm thinking a mastodon skeleton for our groups insignia.

Also, doe Zolomon have his own pilot's insignia, yet? Because it should totally be a pair of crossed heathawks/axes. Or a skull AND cross-axes.
    >> Anonymous 12/06/09(Sun)22:08 No.7035202
    >>7035082
    Well, probably.

Also, Weird Newtype Nakedspace would be a lot more disconcerting if one of our subordinates shows up in it, and she's also naked.

...what the fuck am I saying? That would be awesome! Although realistically romance is a horrible idea here; aside from the whole "we outrank the love interest" issue there'd also be the "love interests die horribly in Gundam shows" issue.

So am I. We get to be the big death, and we give her the little one. And both of us enjoy this immensely.

Jolyne and Zolomon would also make an interesting pair; I propose that if it looks like there's even the remotest chance in hell of it happening we spend a bit of our spare time making that happen.

And so the shipping began. Of course, there would always be those who would refuse to follow the canon pairs, going for more unconventional ships like JolyneXGabriel and OokawaraXElaine.

But none were as intolerable as those who tried to force the ListerXZolomon ship. Indeed, it took an announcement from the series creator himself to finally stop the constant flame wars. And even then, in the darkest recesses of the seedier forums, you might still find a few people continuing to support their chosen pair.

And Zolomon is our go-to guy for CQC in the field. We just assign Jolyne to start teaching him some fighting skills with the idea that he can apply them to his suit in combat. With a bit of care and some gentle nudges, the whole thing will develop naturally from there.

An abandoned space colony, located at the devastated Side 5. Originally created for recreation and raising livestock, the Texas colony is damaged at the start of the One Year War, locking its mirrors in place and creating a never-ending high noon. By the time the White Base arrives here, the Texas colony has become a barren desert. [Gundam]
