(Please note last thread is mislabled Part 3, But was supposed to be part 2.5)

This is a continuation of today's Dungeon Keeper Quest, which had strong influences from both Overlord and from Greed's previous Forgotten King quests.

    -

Your head is throbbing... poison, the poison got to you. All you remember is the poison, the blasted basilisk poison... and laughter. Goblin laughter. Cold yellow eyes with a petrifying glare, and fangs containing enough poison to take down a dragon. Your vision is blurry, the poison must have gotten into your eyes. But you are no ordinary mortal, you are a shade. Darkness incarnate. Basilisk poison should not phase you... why are you so weak? why?

Above you... pairs of eyes. Yellow pairs. Goblin eyes, gleaming at you. They see you are being weak, they are mocking you... you know it. They are going to steal something from you... are plotting against you. You strike one with your fist, It falls. And then shaking... the goblins are shaking you.

    What do you do?

Stand up, hurl them off and roar defiance. Unthinkable though it is, we may yet be mistaken about their motives. Identify threat first, then crush them all in an orgy of violence.

These goblins, these creatures... they're after you. They were trying to murder you. You stand and strike one, and reach for your blade... It's not there. The goblins must have stolen it. You strike another, and then you hear a familiar voice... No. It's a trick. They're trying to trick you. Then you are forced to the ground again, and your vision clears further. You see familiar faces, it's the faces of your goblins. The ones under your command.

You breath out... black mist. Purple mist. So that is your breath. It touches the ground and vanishes. You place your arm, clad in metal, filled in darkness, onto your chest. And then magic, you try to heal your poison... strong pain. Very strong pain, you are pushed to the ground again.

"The poison has magical properties... you cannot heal it with magic as basic as your own." You hear one of your goblins say. How does this goblin know this... Now you remember. This was the goblin who was the apprentice to the tribe shaman.

But you can't just lie here... there was a battle. Everything you owned was at risk, all of your power and chances to glory... the battle...

You absorb the power of everything nearby. Your senses, they are returning. Not slowly... quickly. You can see clearer, hear better, your thoughts are easing up. The darkness within you is growing stronger, the poison is being crushed by your own power. The poison the basilisk had was strong, but nothing compared to the power within you. You see your blade nearby on the ground. You grip it, Once this instrument was a paladins blade, one that was lodged into your own dark heart, but now you have converted it into a weapon of chaos.

12 or so goblins are nearby, 1 of them a corpse, 3 of them injured. You presume because you struck them.

You are in a goblin house, a small abode made of stone.

Your council stands ready. You wish to know what happened. Of the council, 6 are generals of war, 1 is a goblin "noble" with stonetouch, and the last is the goblin shaman.

Strange, you remember 1 more in the council, another general. But you suppose he fell in battle.

We had no choice but to retreat, the cities of Gravenhell and Grubshire are lost sir, we ran into the mines, The black scale kobolds won, they took our lands."

There are large amounts of gold veins a small distance to the east, we also have mining tools and basic supplies. We have enough food supplies to last a few weeks, and brought with us roughly 20 spears.

The shaman also brought basic medical herbs. The stoneworkers can work with the stone here to build things.

Alright, if the thieves are loyal to us train them to act as scouts. Set up a system of watch in which a half of the thieves are always on duty, patrolling the caverns, and the other half are off duty. Each shift is about 8 hours long, so the Gobbies can get a full night's sleep when they're off duty. It'll be tough, but we're in dire straits.

Oversee the resumption of our industry. If we have any green mushrooms with spores, plant them and establish a farm that would feed the people.

What do we use for spear handles? We should start to produce bows out of it as well. Giving some to the scouts would be a good idea. Set spearmen to patrol the town, and train our men. We have veterans now, so we need to find the most experienced and make them the drill sergeants.

Lastly, we need to demonize the BlackScales in the eyes of our Gobbies. Inspire true hatred, no just racial hatred. Make the kobolds less than goblin, less than goblin shit in their eyes. It is the greatest good to kill a kobold, a true mercy to the misbegotten swine.

    [Agriculture]
Green mushroom farms started. Number raised from 0 to 2.
-Moon Grass, Sun Grass, and Blue mushrooms seeds lost! You cannot plant those anymore!

    [War]
View towards Kobolds dropped from Hostile to Hatred.

    [Army]
You set up defense patrols and training for spearmen.
Thieves are being turned into scouts, their sneaking abilities and past greatly help them in their new job.

    [Magic]
The goblin shaman apprentice has discovered he has very basic skills in magic. This could be useful.

    [Hero]
The goblin with stonetouch can now turn things into stone if he concentrates, within 20 feet. He is becoming stronger and stronger, it would be wise to keep a watch on him.

Teach the shaman more magic. He will be the one we want to use against the stonegoblin when he turns. That said, begin to watch him for disloyal activity, or for anything we can use against him. Does he like women too much? Is he a glutton? Does he slack off on the job? We need to find an excuse to cow the little sucker. Also, I need to know if there are any scouts that show more potential and aggression than any of the others.

Support the shaman on his path. We can't lose him.

Find the scout with the most patience and find some sort of fault with him. Bring him into your presence and fake his violent death by your hand. This will serve as a warning to less loyal goblins, such as the stonemage. Take that scout and keep him in a hidden place, training him to become an assassin. Have the shaman teach him the ways of poison, and your most trusted commanders the ways of martial skill, stealth and tactics.

We can use this assassin as our hidden justice, to deal with the stonemage when he turns, and to perhaps send to destroy the kobold mage later on.

Look her straight in the eyes and reveal your demonic nature, letting her see all the hatred and malevolent power in what passes for your soul. Tower over her and approach, your body poised for the kill, and use a slight bit of magic to instill an unnatural fear in her.

You decide to take a post as a guard, in order to get you closer and closer to the rat king. You will have your power back, this one is too prideful, too foolish. He will be made into dust before you.

A week passes and an alert is raised, two goblins are brought in. Your goblins, two generals.

"Look what we have here... goblin scum."

the rat king points at you.

    "You... kill them!"

Spread lies and rumours. Ferment discontent. Identify several candidates for the position of new leader and big them up over the course of several months. Begin acts of terrorism against all new factions. If you are ever caught, claim to be double or even triple agent. Use magic to convince them. If we can body hop intentionally this will be even easier.

If you kill your two generals, you stay undercover.
If you take their souls, you have enough power to rise up against the rat king.
If you free them, you could be in a better situation but it is a risky move.

I think the thread is too long for new blood, which can be an issue.

I liked the quest, so good job there... uhm, it went away from 'multiple resource management' with nice updates for the different sectors to a 'single-player quest' type thing... I think those can be fun in the short term, but maybe if the quest stuck with the 'you are in control of many options' and only dabbled in 'your in a body and you are shanking stuff' it would work better.

Controling a goblin fort let many people focus on what was interesting to them, controling the shade in an infiltration mission meant A) Only one persons ideas could be implemented at a time and B) If you wern't interested in infiltration, there was nothing much to do.

Only one more issue I can think of...

Where do i start off part 4?

Still in the train wreck we are now?
After you slay the rat king?
After you convert the rat king?

Before you head off alone to their fort?

What about the player split his soul into that skaven, and now the skaven takes over the other city, while the player escapes back to the goblin town.

Both sides are controlled by the player, but they openly hate each other.

Third, though sometimes there has to be some short solo parts in order to segment the game a little, but obviously should not last too long.

Enjoyed the game very much though, some fun posts from Greed and I specially liked the way you presented the changes in various resources.

Also, giving suggestions/options on what to do is good sports.

Is it possible that they actually do hate each other? The soul splitting process was difficult? TG's natural hate put to good use?

Two threads for two forts? Bonus spam!
    >> Anonymous 11/28/09(Sat)16:34 No.6909553
The whole skaven body swap was a major WTF moment. I think that was where things fell apart.

You could have a scene through the eyes of the two generals, seeing the skaven ordered to kill them instead rip into the surrounding ones and kill several unprepared, then as the rest gang up on it, they feel the familiar feeling of the shade's abilities in use and see the (now possessed) king skaven stab the remainder of skaven in the room from behind, before retrieving his armor to resume his normal form.

    That would be cool.

I'm not a good enough of a writer to pull that off successfully, I'm sure it would just come off sounding rather stupid. Also if i would attempt it it would be rather long, and that is never a good thing. If you notice in my first post I take events in a very small amount of time and spread em out over many sentences, that's how I like to write.

No, no, no. Multiple threads is begging for trolling. It WILL happen then. Furthermore, how the hell do you plot against another thread on /tg/, when ANYONE CAN READ your posts? Half the people are going to be posting in both.

    Alright as it turns out:

The player never took over the skaven, he just dominated him and the second half of this thread is through the skavens point of view.

The player actually teleported out and put a fake set or armor.

Part 4 starts with the player breaking down the gate and assaulting with an army, While the two generals break free, as they planned to be captured.

    Thoughts?
