When we last left our brave Captain Roarke in http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/6818268/
we were preparing to mount a new expedition into the city to take revenge against the natives. THEY. SHOT. YOUR. HAT. Bolstered by the kings reinforcements, you prepare to lay siege to the natives.

Forgot to mention, we have 2 gliders launched off a truck at the depot as well. The silver mine got expanded last time, and you discovered a vault in the ancient city but got chased off. The french mining company forces have been suspiciously quiet..... 13 rp available. ORDERS? are we following the plan from the last thread?

just a reminder the plan last time was
Then, I suggest taking 30 Mercs, 20 Soldiers, 10 Grenadiers, 2 Natives, 2 Gatling Trucks, and both Gliders, and take on those Snake Tribe Natives at the Lost City. I suggest the Maxim Gun, but it sounds pretty unreliable. I guess we could post it at the entrance with the 2 gatling trucks? We would lead the expedition, of course, unless someone has another idea.

Alright, for purposes of speeding things up I'll assume you went with the plan outlined last thread which is>>6853998 You might want to take at least a small force inside to draw them out. You and Godfried are not exactly the Thin Red Line all by yourselves.

Also, the AT rifle is for hunting the French "female" type steam tank armed with maxims that you have spotted in the jungle. You decided not to take it with you on the temple assault.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:52 No.6854271
Also, some light, fast detachment to see what those damn frenchies are up to would be useful. If they're dead, well, one less colonial challenge, but if they ARE dead, I'd like to know that it was from native schwarm tactics and not AWAKENED ANCIENT GODS FROM UNDERNEATH THE EARTH because they dug too greedily and too deep.

You send one native and one expert to scout and report back for the French. You tried diplomacy with the natives last time (refer to previous thread). And they Shot Your Hat! They natives know who you are as you did an Indiana Jones style run from the zerg last time you visited. You counted only about 400 natives then, but there might be more.

I wouldn't sweat the frenchie tank too much, gentlemen. Jungle terrain gives us excellent opportunities to swarm it and stuff explosives in interesting places should we need too, and it's effective firepower is greatly reduced anyhow. Leave the AT rifle at home; it'll be needed for defense.

While we're at it, we need scouts to watch our flanks and keep us informed. Wish we had more goddamn horses.

No fucking way I'm taking my men into a city fight where the natives melee weapons are hideously and tellingly effective, and we've no way to bypass strongpoints by going through the walls of buildings.

Without artillery, I'd say our best option is to avoid this strongpoint entirely, and starve them out. Camp the gate(s), it's not like they're going to be offering impressive resistance in an open field.

    I hope.

get the gatlings set up in defensive positions on the high points, giving them a view of the city, but covered/ manned by 5 rifles each, trucks constantly moving, providing ammo/ quick pickup in case of a retreat. split forces in 2, careful not to give mercs too much power, vets balanced with rookies, etc. move in on streets parallell to each other, but dont get separated. gliders circling/ spotting and droping flares

    >and it has farms.

More then anything else this forces the matter.

Okay, entrench the grenadiers + mercs and lead the greenies closer to the walls, perhaps even up to (but not inside,) the gate. When we draw fire, we'll give a few volleys, then start retreating, then start running.

I don't trust green troops not to ACTUALLY start running like pussies, which is why false retreats are dangerous, but that's why the rear ambush/bastion is made up of grenadiers and mercs.

Right, forgot mercs didn't respect our soldiers. And we left the veteran ones back at the base because they could handle the mercs there. I assume, that's what I remember someone suggesting. Um, then us, Godfried, ten mercs, and, say, 3 Grenadiers? We have MASSIVE CHARISMA, so that should hopefully keep them in line.

In close quarters, spears become a hell of a lot more useful. Because guns are lethal because of, you know, the range thing. The british learned this the hard way a few times, and so did the American colonists during the Indian wars.

Woops im behind on the times. The city is MASSSIVE. There is no way you could encircle it. The city is a series of stepped temples and residences leading down to something at the bottom. however the top is not covered, adn theoretically you could land at the bottom with an airship if you had such a thing

Now that we got the confirm, you proceed warily inside, with Godfried having a flare gun in his hands. You hear native shouting again, and the torches on the walls go out the second you step inside. The mercenaries are tough, so all your troops are fine inside. You see a pile of gold lying on the grounds in a side passage as you advance. And you see gold jewelry in a pile in one of the many halls. No natives yet. ORDERS?

Well it is it's own city, and it was farms. I was under the impression they had some wells going, though since we didn't get too far last time, and our glider scout was captured/killed before he could get much, I can't be sure.

tl;dr- Seige is awesome, but they have self-sustaining city, we have probably not enough supplies to last more than a couple of weeks before we'd have to go back.

Status of Shaman as enemy heavy weapon- confirmed.

I'll assume that the enemy took some casualties from rifle fire once they dropped their shields. It is time to commit our reserve, which is apparently, ME. INTO THE GODDAMN BREACH.

Also, assuming the flanking forces can't fire into the melee, they should charge the enemy lines from the sides and sides/rear while the gantlings shoot at whatever they can/bottle up the gate to prevent reinforcements.

In other words they recognized the instant boning about to be and reacted accordingly. No worries, this is why I kept our mercs + grenadiers in the center of the line, so we didn't fold like wet paper. Flanking infantry into the fray, try to get around/behind their line, heavy weapons bottle up the gate to prevent re-inforcements.

You dont insta win just cause you killed one man. There are about 500 natives left, and in hand to hand you are at a severe disadvantage. You take advantage of the momentary confusion to form a barricade of your own with the dropped wooden native barriers, this way you have a space where the natives have to filter through. Start firing! If we still can, fire the Maxims! Shoot to kill! I'm assuming bayonets were affixed prior to the battle. Please tell we we don't have to waste precious seconds doing it now!

bayonets, crouch in the second redoubt, bayonets straight up to impale any advances, set down the maxims, keep the gat firing
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)23:15 No.6855848
    to arms men! to arms!

whoever shot that green flare must be here by now

Don't bother with bayonets. A melee fight means we lose anyways.

Rally the men around you, and form ranks. Proceed to fire by volleys.

    MEN OF ENGLAND, TO ME!

    FIRST RANK, FIRE!

    SECOND RANK, FIRE!

    etc.
    >> Victorian Revenge Some Steampunk Dude 11/24/09(Tue)23:15 No.6855851
Bayonet wall or volley fire, make up mind anon, confirm one or other. ORDERS?

VOLLEY FIRE. STACK THEM AT OUR FEET.

Also, this will let the Maxims set up to fire again.

Volley. We are screwed numerically and experientially in close combat. So we have to keep out of it.

1st line bayonets, second line volleys, but have the majority keep firing, we're using bolt action, and a couple repeaters, so the natives should fall quickly, status on the shaman?
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)23:17 No.6855878
    looks like volley
    >> Victorian Revenge Some Steampunk Dude 11/24/09(Tue)23:18 No.6855895
You using Henry martinis buddy, only single shots. You hear the sounds of men shouting behind you. You attach bayonets then fire by rank. You kill 100 natives, then get into hand to hand. the trucks managed to escape. The shaman and the pistol man are coming towards you. ORDERS?

    >status on the shaman?

Given that the dirt wall fell apart, he's probably recharging his juju at the moment.

By the time he's got it back together, Godfried should be ready to put a 13mm bullet through his face.

we either ordered, or received some repeating rifles last shipment, i wasnt sure

fast draw with pistol and blast the dude inna face while the shaman is recharging

Shit. Try to put a couple of shots into the leader, then the shaman. Assuming we can use our pistol, if not, try to keep our distance.

    10This's

The pistol man takes aim at you and the shaman draws power to himself as he floats on his earth platform a few feet above the ground. They are both gunning for you. ORDERS?

    >You kill 100 natives

So there's 400 left. We've got, like, 40 men left, perhaps, in hand-to-hand, trucks escaped, status of maxim guns- unknown. status of godfried- unknown.

If the death of the shaman in the last battle sowed CONSIDERABLE terror in their ranks, then I take my personal vanguard and just rush the motherfucker. If it didn't produce CONSIDERABLE consertation last time, then I guess we just run like bitches. Clearly we've been routed.

charge them cutlas swinging and pistol firing nonstop, take down the leader and the natives will prob relent, is our glider still around??

You form up with the last of the grenadiers and charge the pistol dude. He fires two shots but you deflect them with your cutlass and cut him in half. The shaman raises his hands to kill you- but then his face explodes. ITS WINSTON! You see the entire population of your town, excluding experts, armed with shovels, pickaxes, and torches charging the natives. The natives start to break and run seeing their leader killed. ORDERS?

Emitting a earth-shattering roar of triumph, Roarke spurs his men into a renewed attack, every single god damned shovel-wielding psychotic one of them, and I say we pursue the sons of bitches right back into the gates. ROUT THEM. PURSUE THEM. And make GOD DAMNED SURE they remember that they were driven back into their city with us screaming like psychotic bastards on their heels.
