Well, using the logic that if he's siphoning gas then his car is the only one that we're sure is operational, let's call that our target vehicle. If possible, Brian and ourself should move into position such that we can approach the man from the vector his car is on- so he'll have to move towards us to reach his vehicle. Make the way toward one of the working vehicles. Depending on which way Brian's house is, copguy can take I-70 or I-80 east out of the state, only real routes out of Utah. I-80 out of SLC might be the safer bet, since its all rural nothing from there to Cheyanne and onwards.

Also, in my personal view we should attempt to retrieve Brian's wife and bring her back to the airport with us, then proceed to our desired destination by plane; air travel is likely to run into far less difficulties than ground movement. Nowhere did I suggest stealing the car at gunpoint; I counseled that approach because if he were to prove hostile, his car would provide convenient cover as it's reinforced and he'd be unlikely to fire on it. Apparently, the man explains, the general chaos around here has a distinct religious flavor. The mega-churches started pumping out "REPENT OR BE DAMNED" sermons, and the groups that tried to restore order shouted down, then beaten down.

He had been hiding out in a church that was giving out food from their stores when a mob formed down the street and started throwing Molotovs. Then they started shooting at him as he tried to drive away. He says that if he hadnt put that sheet metal on the car, he might have been hit.

There is a bullet mark on the metal, that backs up his story.

After a regular check of the cars that could still have stuff in them, you dont find much (Jacob was thorough), but you DO manage to find some fuzzy dice in the convertible. ("You gotta have fuzzy dice for a road trip, you just gotta", says Brian), and a Tazer with a full battery in the van.
With that done, you say your goodbyes to Jacob as you go your separate ways. You have Brian drive, as he knows the roads around here and you can shoot if you need too.

While driving, remain alert for any activity. Listen for gunshots, of course... but any location with multiple visibly modified vehicles near it is likely to house active people.

Inquire as to if Brian knows the location of any potentially useful supplies (grocery stores, hardware stores, anyplace which might have guns), for inspection after we retrieve his wife.

As you drive, you notice a few things.
Utah is flat.
Utah gas stations appearently have no gas (they all either have huge "NO GAS" signs, or have been looted to the point where its unlikely anything is left.
Utah is also "seemingly" deserted, but you get the feeling that people are hiding in the buildings you pass, either out of fear (You see A LOT of bullet holes in buildings) or whatever reason.

You come up to Grantsvile.
You could either take the back roads, or go through the town proper.

The quest wasn't bad. On a few occasions you misinterpreted what was being said slightly, but were quick to correct yourself when it was pointed out instead of being a jackass about it. As far as I noticed, you didn't blatantly ignore people, which is always annoying in a GM.

You could use slightly more detailed descriptions; for example, when you said that we noticed a man, it could be assumed that we'd immediately check for weapons. When we drive up to the house, we'd immediately check for lights on/off. Needing to wait for an additional GM/player post cycle when more information is being asked for slows things down quite a bit... though we were generally bold enough that that didn't happen.

You'd probably make a pretty good DM/GM, dude. The whole fluid and adaptable cause and effect thing is great. So players thinking intelligently and avoiding bad shit has its own rewards.

Doesn't mean you can't throw a wrench in the system every once in a while to force the players to adapt to a situation they didn't want to adapt to.
