Alright, /tg/ is full of scum, faggotry, and legos right now. ITS TIME FOR VICTORIAN QUEST!

You are Captain Roarke: A charismatic retired British Officer, you have led men all around the world, most famously in British India. You do this not for personal gain but for the sense of adventure. You are famously bad with managing supplies, but your men love you and will fight for you until the end.

Combat Skill (How well your character personally does in combat situations): Medium
Supply Requisition (How often you get reinforcements and supplies): Medium
Charisma (How much your men like you): Extremely High
Economic Management (How well you can manage your settlement’s economy): Low

Your Colony has been established around a silver mine. It is in concentric circles, like an onion.
1st ring- vehicle depot, fortified main barracks, fortified main hq,4 watchtowers, mortar pit, gatling trucks in vehicle depot, mine, heavy fortified trenches.
2nd ring- additional barracks, 2 farms, 1 well, 1 brick sawmill, trade depot, wood trenches,
3rd ring- new barracks, armory with foundry, light trenches
Right now you are on the border of the great ancient city which is near your encampment. You have 20 Riflemen, 10 Mercenaries, 1 Gatling truck with 5 Riflemen as guards waiting outside the city, and 10 royal british grenadiers to aid you. FOR KING AND COUNTRY

bump lets get this started. didnt we have those native guides at the end of last time, also last thread was http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/6806077/
newbies only gotta read the last like 10 posts.

GODS SAKE MAN, they are the royal grenadiers! sent by the British main army stationed in Cape Hope to assist your forces.

Sorry for the double post, but at the end of the last thread the last of the dynamite (excluding a couple sticks) were used to reactivate the mine, and the sawmill is processing timber so the economy is in fairly good shape. The big crisis last time was the fact that a French Steam tank had been spotted in the area, and thats why your current force is equipped with an AT rifle.
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)13:45 No.6818391
Right, but I am not much of a history buff. Do they have better equipment? I assume they are better trained/have more experience. I just want to know if there is anything other than that that differentiates them. Like, maybe the GRENADiers have grenades, by chance?

They have a very long tradition of being elites, they have normal equipment but they are VERY strong fighters and they are completely loyal to you unlike the mercenaries.
The city makes your native guides uneasy, and there are serpent symbols everywhere. The death tribe warning symbols have disappeared. It is huge stone archways. Do you venture in? ORDERS?
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)13:47 No.6818422
Can we do this and head towards where the glider landed? If we are /very/ lucky, it might still be there. Recovering it would be nice.
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)13:50 No.6818455
leave the gatling at the entrance with 10 rifles snd 5 grenadiers at the entrance, have them settle in and barricade shit up,leace the AT with them they'll cover you while you, godfried, the rest of the rifles, the grenadiers, and the mercs venture into the city. tread carefully, i assume godfried doubles as an expert, have him and the mercs check for traps as you advance, rifles look for natives.

When Winston followed the Frenchies, he found that they have a mobile base supported by a steam tank. His recon unit arrived back in camp just in time for you to rout the native attackers, and you then later razed their camp with surprisingly little resistance.
The glider was gone, presumably taken by the Frogs. However, they do not have the experimental launcher you have, so they can only use its maxim gun.
    ORDERS? proceed into da city?

in this scenario we still stay at the outer levels of the city, we dont have enough troops, and the frenchies can counter our base whilst we are gone, so hurry back
    >> Victorian City Some Steampunk Dude 11/22/09(Sun)13:55 No.6818522
You venture deeper into the city after posting the aformentioned rear guard. Godfried sees no traps but you have to be on your toes in such an enviroment. Your native guides sputters something like Dis place be cursed mon, dis da serpent clan, and da bad magics. Gold is here for da gods, we shouldnt touch it.
    Proceed inwards?
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)13:55 No.6818541
By jove, where have all these cowardly voices sprung from? We came to this city specifically to explore it. Now we've discovered some snake temple, which is no doubt full of riches!
Let's pretend we are white men, here, lads. Light our torches and march into the temple and have a look.
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)13:56 No.6818543

    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)14:02 No.6818625

You get into an infantry square. Some of the natives start a chant and you can see they are getting slowly closer. A couple javelins harmlessly land near your men. You affix bayonets and your royal grenadiers use their experience to use the shadows of the enemy in order to get a few kills. They reload with British efficiency. Your riflemen are really scared. ORDERS?

Oh, one more thing, OP. I was wondering since back when we got the gliders and you mentions that you rolled on a table. If you wouldn't mind telling us, do you cross something off once it's been chosen, or keep it? If you keep it and it gets chosen again, do we just get another one, or an upgraded version? I'd personally prefer the idea that getting the same result multiple times would get us better and better versions of it. Anyway, this is all just idle curiosity.
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)14:19 No.6818837

No! Conserve ammunition, and no panic. Hold fire until they rush in to attack. And kneel to present smaller targets for spears. Can we shield ourselves with anything?

So, wait, did we ask for farm supplies last time, or did we already get those? IF now, we should try from some farm animals and some good ol' veggie seeds. The native guides we got are good at farming, right? They can show us the best methods for this type of soil.

Other than that, we have our own supply of Refined Wood, so lets, get some more good quality stone bricks and soldiers. We'll need them to take out the Snake tribe, and we'll need the bricks for more housing, which they will require.

Maybe another crate of dynamite, just in case?

    >> Victorian City Some Steampunk Dude 11/22/09(Sun)15:08 No.6819482
The natives love guns and silver when you trade. Also, the native guides have expanded your farming enough to account for 400 people. You do have a distinct lack of bricks however.

The convoy arrives and you trade your silver shipment for 20 mercenaries and a maxim on a tripod fed by belt. You give them the wishlist.

140 workers, 60 rifles, 40 mercenaries, 50 experts. 10 natives 10 grenadiers currently available. ORDERS?
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)15:09 No.6819501
Saving for a Male Steamtank is an idea I like. For bunkers though, should we wait until we've expanded the settlement to as big as it's going to get? I would think extreme hardpoints like bunkers should go to our fist, main line of defense. If we end up expanding more, they will get overtaken. But we could use the concrete for other things, if it is available.

    Just my 2 cents.

Somewhat unrelated, I suggest we fortify the outer regions of the town. Right now our strongpoint is in the centre, which means that any attacking force will raze the town around in order to get to the forts. Just a little bit of helpful advice.

I'm throwing my hat into the ring for Sam's suggestions. Repeater Rifles and more soldiers.
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)15:12 No.6819538
So our wishlist did include bricks for the next shipment, right? Is suggest using some of the rgular ore we've mined to pave the road. There shouldn't be many Death Tribe warriors left, but just in case, send 40 Workers, 30 Soldiers, both Gliders, and 1 Gatling Truck with them each day for protection.

Other than that, continue to mine and farm. Can we ask our Experts if they have any suggestions for a new building?

Just a reminder, you have 2.5 acres of land clear, and a 3 layer colony right now. Fortifying the outer layers is a good idea, paving the road is unfeasible, death tribe activities have been down, and new buildings would be smart. You have refined wood for building materials. ORDERS?

The experts suggest building up the center of camp, it looks like a trench war shell hole right now with wire and simple barracks. or building more housing might be nice. TREAT THIS LIKE BRITISH DORFCOLONY
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)15:19 No.6819648

Building on this idea, is there a way to have domesticated snakes or something in aforementioned granary? They were used by ancient cultures to kill rodents and defend grain. Would be a simple solution to a potentially catastrophic problem.
    >> Victorian City Some Steampunk Dude 11/22/09(Sun)15:22 No.6819693
A granary is quite feasible, and your workers start construction of it out of the refined wood. HINT: masonaries can turn that unrefined waste stone from mining into building materials. Also, think about it, could this colony resist a french attack right now? ORDERS?
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)15:23 No.6819697
Okay then, Granary near the farming area for when the harvest comes in, more housing in the center. Can we move some of the barbed wire to the outer perimeter, to increase it's defense? Also, I've never played dorfcolony, so... yeah. Anyway, platten out some of the trenches in the middles, try to combine the second and central circles, build up the defense of the outermost circle.
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)15:24 No.6819707

I say leave it, don't want to clutter up a potential warzone. I also say we build up a watchtower or two along the outer ring, to act as recon points and to give some advanced warning of a potential attack.
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)15:25 No.6819727
    OH SHI-

Okay, if we have the materials, a masonry would be nice, hope we have some masons...

Like I said, build up the defense of the outer ring. When we have some bricks produced from our masonry (Whenever it is finished, might not have the materials for it yet), use them to make a more permanent wall to surround the settlement.
    >> Victorian City Some Steampunk Dude 11/22/09(Sun)15:26 No.6819736
I'd like a vote on fortifying outer layer/defortifying the center? also MASONARIES. royal convoy in 1.5 weeks. ORDERS?
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)15:29 No.6819778
Okay, you have my vote for de-fortifying the center, fortifying the perimeter.

How about the rest of you, anon? What say yee?
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)15:30 No.6819793

Build shallow trenches along the outer edges, fortified with the wood. Because the natives and French most likely won't be bringing artillery, deep trenches won't be required and would be too much effort for what's actually necessary to survive. With thick wooden planks and logs, most bullets will be stopped before they even pose a threat. Think WW2 slits trenches. Ever played CoD5: World at War? Think the "Their Land, Their Blood" campaign mission.

We need to use it as simply a barrier right now, something that can be expanded later. We'll be fighting natives, we don't need real defences. And if the French show up, it should still be enough to let us survive.
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)15:30 No.6819795
    bump for life
    >> Victorian City Some Steampunk Dude 11/22/09(Sun)15:32 No.6819810
Thats what we currently HAVE along the edge. Right now the center of our base is a nightmere for attackers, but is very crowded with all the barbed wire, trenches, and guard towers.
    >> Anonymous 11/22/09(Sun)15:34 No.6819832

And that's light fortification? Ok, well then let's add a bit more to it. Dugouts would still be extremely helpful, especially for a prolonged engagement. I still support a watch tower or two to give us some advance warning of attack.
    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)15:35 No.6819848
Nope, never played CoD5. But yeah, some shallow trenches. Do we still have some sheet metal from when we first arrived? I remember you said we brought lots of it. If so, it might make for some good defenses. If the French bring their Steamtank, we just have to hold out until we can bring the AT Rifle to bear. And yeah, like someone mentioned before, lets get some watchtowers buildt on the perimeter, some advanced warning would be good. Maybe later we should try clearing more land to extend sight lines?
    >> Victorian City Some Steampunk Dude 11/22/09(Sun)15:37 No.6819868
You disassemble two of the guard towers in the center and reasemble them on the perimeter. You dig dugouts in base or artillery or tank cannons. Royal convoy in a week, WISHLIST TIME. Also, think of organizing an expedition to the city again, you have a new maxim, 4 gatlings, 140 workers, 60 rifles, 40 mercenaries, 50 experts. 10 natives 10 grenadiers. Also, the city gives you RP. As does fightin the french
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 11/22/09(Sun)15:40 No.6819904

    >> Researcher Sam 11/22/09(Sun)15:41 No.6819915
Royal Convoy Wishlist, huh. What do they have that we wouldn't normally be able to get, other than some more opportunities to spend RP? I guess some experienced soldiers? Not Grenadiers specifically, but ones who won't get scarred from some chanting.

Then, I suggest taking 20 Mercs, 30 Soldiers, 10 Grenadiers, 2 Natives, 2 Gatling Trucks, and both Gliders, and take on those Snake Tribe Natives at the Lost City. I'd suggest the Maxim Gun, but it sounds pretty unwieldy. I guess we could post it at the entrance with the 2 gatling trucks? We would lead the expedition, of course, unless someone has another idea.

Hmm, then maybe bring 30 mercs with us? The Grenadiers seem to be able to keep them inline. And we can make sure that the 30 soldiers at camp are more loyal/experienced. If some of the more inexperienced ones balk at going back to the city, we can remind them that the surest way to get over a fear is to face it head on. And this time, we have air support. Fuck yeah!
