Paranoid hypothesis:

Messiah is setting himself up to usurp our places as Voice of Slul-Hugoth.

He is implanting seeds of loyalty in the new generation, not to us, but to either himself of Slul-Hugoth directly - and as self-appointed High Priest, really that means loyalty to him. Vile treachery, to be punished most strongly.

On the other hand, it's worth checking Fury's story before making a decision either way. I suggest getting Messiah on his own and quizzing him on matters more closely - and also doing a psychic examination of the younger generation, trying to pick out whether Messiah has been meddling with their psychology in improper ways.
