Now, finally, this would be his first OWN sucess, unguided and unknown to any of his former peers. The power lying within the now removed guardians dwelling would be his.
He rose from the ground, out of his hiding place between one of the many century-old trees and a moss-covered boulder, and started toward the now desolate, unassuming log-cabin set the heart of these accursed woods.
As he drew closer to his destination, he felt himself growing impatient, literally trembling with anticipation. He let it slide. After all, it all had worked out so perfectly without him raising so much as an arm. His pride made his senses grow dull, replacing his alertedness with new vistas of the power he would now obtain opened up for him. He would be free. His own master.
He practically RAN the last few yards on his path. There. The miserable little hut, like he remembered it. As per his instructions, it didnt seem to have been harmed, much less - oh gods - burned down. But now, even though nothing seemed to have changed since his last visit, he knew that this time, nobody would stop him.
He slowed down as he appoached the doorstep, the inside veiled in comparative darkness to the sunny afternoon. As if the building tried to hide the events that had recently took place within it. Once more, excitement gripped his heart. He would be FREE.
As he stepped through the damaged wooden door, he froze. A quiet, almost impercievable sobbing. Then he saw it. A little, quivering being, that must have eluded his detection in the confusion caused by so many beings present at once.
Though he made no sound, the little head turned towards him... |
