Because let's not kid ourselves, the Windfish IS Cthulhu.
And furthermore, when you stop to think about it, the whole plot of Links Awakening is damn grimdark.
Especially if you take it to directly precede Windwaker.

Well I suppose it's just a matter of whether you think a full-grown man in a bodysuit who thinks he's a fairy or a small disproportionate man in a bodysuit who thinks he's a fairy is creepier. Although I suppose as his reality starts to shatter and his facade begins to crumble, him being a tiny man would be more sad.

Honestly, play in the Minish Cap setting.

I just started playing it awhile ago, and it's alright, it boiler-plate Zelda. "Oh, the Princess is kidnapped, and you are the Chosen One and therefore must gather the four...yadda yadda yadda." I was content to go out and solve puzzles and whatnot...until I realized something. The reason that Link is chosen in this game is because he's still a child, and can talk to the Picori. The King of Hyrule, with the boy's adopted father's blessings, SENT A CHILD OUT TO KILL MONSTERS. ALONE.

So take your monsters: Moblins, Octoroks, etc. Not too scary when you're adult Link with bows and arrows. Now, imagine that you're fighting them as a nine-year old boy, with a knife and a wooden shield. Just imagine the looks of desperation and pain on the soldiers sending off a child because they cannot do what needs to be done.

I really hope Nintendo just missed that, or else Zelda just got a lot more dark for me.

Majora's Mask. Imagine the crushing horror every human in the world feels as they watch the moon slowly fall into the planet, only for their world to be rewound and for them to be subjected to all of their pain over and over again, into eternity.

Ikana Canyon alone could be the basis for an incredibly grimdark game. Pamela's father becoming so obsessed with the afterlife after the death of his wife that he turns himself undead in a freak experiment... the ghosts of a ruined kingdom fighting eachother until their world is ground to dust... undead soldiers bound to the will of a long dead captain, unable to find rest... Sakon the bandit, cruelly tearing away the one piece of Kafei's life that connected him to the time before his curse... and the Stone Tower, which can only be solved by creating soulless clones of yourself. Grimdark as FUCK.

Y'know, I always wanted to see a Legend of Zelda game set in a sorta Steampunky 1900s-y version of something like Fritz Lang's Metropolis, an enormous city with prospering corporations and nobles at the top and the oppressed working class at the bottom, where Link's some mechanic's kid who's forced out of his home after dad dies due to the lack of occupational safety measures, Zelda's some social reformer chick, and Gannon's the head of the oppressive GannonCorp.

Honestly, the entire reason I think this would be cool is because I always wanted a game where at the end of one of the missions you have to jump off the top of a building that's miles high in a crowded Coruscant/Metropolis-style city and fall all the way to the bottom. Hopefully with something there to break your fall.

GODDAMIT OP, you made me think about actually getting into cthulu shit now. i have always thought about trying to run a LoZ based campaign in DnD. both using OoT and MM total as the setting. the group starts out as a couple kokiri children, and are forced to go into the tree, volcano, and jabu jabu, for their adventure, then get trapped in time for 7 years and get thrown out into the world fucked up and grimdark. saving what was left of the gorons and zoras and the few remaining settlements of hylians. (and possibly letting one of the players get it on with rutu) once they get everything needed to attack the BBEG, the castle callapses around them, and the saved royal family member that you helped, banishes you away for ruining their plans and using magic to warp you do a different country, where they find themselves in termina field, but as adults. the group still needs to find masks and such, but put a dump trucks worth of grimdark on all the dungeons and levels, doing things to break the PC's sanity and turn them on each other, and see if they can keep it together to save the world from having a POSSESSED MOON crash into the planet. yeah, wanted to create this campaign, but moved to an area where i cant find a team to mindfuck with this idea. so much potential. then when they think its all over, mindfuck them again and throw them in TP world and scare them shitless.

    pic related.

Think of all of the powers the other races can have though . The kokiri can have some kind of unnatural connection to plant life due to being born from some ancient tree god.
The Gorons from the mountain of death can have some type of inherent rock control ability and massive strength and durability
The Zora are humanoid ocean beings who have great strength and durability but little speed upon the surface and great weakness to water
The garudo? An entire race of beautiful bronze skinned deadly sex starved femme fatale ninjas? The one male born for every 1000 is fairly hax and has immense strength and abilities. Many people will want to play as that.
Then there are the Sheike. Ancient order of assasins with super powers?
Then there are the other peoples that can be brought in from other games.

The none existent kind? The way it's set up Gannondorf is basically their entire races stud. Hell he's probably fucking his way through half the fertile ovulating portion of the population when he isn't trying to get the other triforce pieces.
The rest are essentially sterile without the male so they find males from other races to shag.
Isn't it better if the garudo male is merely rare and not simply one?
Besides the only true means to power is the triforce and it is clasped tightly in the hands of the monstrous gannondorf in posession of the princess of the nigh unbeatable empire of hyrule an in the hands of the being known as link. That means that it is a no go.

    There are only 2 possibilities
    1. That there are only a few Gerudo women who can give birth and the rest are sterile. Ganon only fucks the sterile ones for sport.
When a male is born he is taken away to be trained by younger Gerudo women.
    2. They have dominant genes which overwrite the genes of any male it sleeps with. Taking only the strongest genes and the ones that leave them essentially Gerudo. But only the best specimens will do.

Only a few of them are able to get pregnant.
They are usually the most beautiful and powerful. The alpha females if you will.

I'm not even sure what you guys are arguing about anymore. However I second the use of Link's Awakening as one of the adventures you use, although it would do better if it came after one or two others. That way the characters like Marin etc who resemble Zelda and other people from the previous adventures will take on a creepy doppelganger feel.

Link to the past would probably make a good adventure too, with Aghardim or whatever his name is getting tricked by an elder god infused ganon into letting him out of the "golden land" with the triforce in hand.

(Also, does anyone else feel that "Link's Awakening" sounds vaguely like porn?)

So, moving away from the brain breaking complications of Gerudo breeding patterns for a minute, hows this for a campaign chronology.

First Campaign: Ocarina out of Time
Ganondorf discovers ancient blashemous rituals that will bond the basic essence of godhood still trapped within the triforces and turn the recipient into an elder god.
    He succeeds.
Not before Nyarlo- sorry, Zelda passes the PC's an instrument allowing them to travel through time. The players have to travel through a slowly corrupting timestream back to the formation of the Triforces and then INSERT a specific weakness to a certain artifact at their birth. They then have to travel back UP the timestream to Ganon's apotheosis and defeat him in a twisted version of their own reality, that has become corrupted simply by the existence of Ganon at some point within it.
They shatter the triforces and horribly weaken Ganon, allowing him to be sealed up in the 12 wisemans seal, whose components you have collected from the 12 wise men of hyrulian history. Of course for a single person to cast would destroy them, but needs must eh?
The breaking of the Triforce also frees Nyarlothotheps master from confinement, and without Ganon, he's able to rule over Hyrule via one of his masks - JUST AS PLANNED.

Meanwhile, with Ganon isolated inside the seal reality begins to repair itself back to what it was, this leads to lots of sanity loss as reality and time shift and change like quicksand around the players.

This either leads to The Masks of Majora or A Link to the Past.
    >> I apologized on 4chan !!O1JS15Z6lxy 11/15/09(Sun)07:32 No.6715232
    >>6715159

I never played Majora's Mask, so someone else will have to do that.

    A Link to the Past

Roll up new characters, descendants of the survivors from the first game ideally.
They get a psychic message from Nyarly that he/she's being imprisioned in the castle and Angahnim is trying to break the twelve wiseman's seal via numerous virgin sacrifices.

(Angahnim being an Avatar of Ganon)

To cut a long story short you rescue her only to have her recaptured again. Angahnim then sacrifices her breaking the wiseman's seal allowing Ganon to return, in a case of bolting the gate after the horse has bolted you kill Angahnim.

Meanwhile within the seal, Ganon has corrupted it's internal leading to the creation of the Dark World, which begins to merge with Hyrule.
The players have to descend to the Dark World and defeat a Ganon who no longer relies on the Triforce for power, and then kill him by piercing his hid with Arrows made of frozen mercury and then using the pearl of reality to transport him through reality to the real world.
Realitvistic effects mean that mercury erases from existence anything touchng it whilst travelling through dimensions, which meant collecting the mercury IN the dark world from a dragon made completely out of the stuff.
Ganon ceases to be, you all appear in the real world as the shadow corruption folds back with the erasure of ganon.
Technically the Shadow world is still fused with the real world, but without Ganon corrupting it, it becomes impossible to tell the difference.
(Except possibly very slight ones that cause the occaisional SAN loss for the players.)

This leads directly to: The Call of the Wind Fish AKA Links Awakening.

    Nyarl- sorry, Majora's Mask.
Nyarlathotep is being a MASSIVE dick. Players have to stop a plan he's set in motion to make humanity nuke itself. After three days, war is generally declared. Someone keeps harnessing the energy of the blast to hurl the PCs and the contents of the device they use back in time three days.
