CAN I!
Operation British
Although the Zeon forces attempted to win a victory at the start of the war, the Federation Forces still retained enough power to instantly erase all the hard-won gains that the Zeon forces had gradually achieved with their own accumulated strength.
The Zeon forces anticipated that the Federation Forces would launch a counterattack, and felt that the situation required them to prevent this. It was necessary for them to swiftly conclude the war while they were still winning, before anything could extend the fighting. The preceding events had largely followed their calculated estimates, and now they announced the previously planned "Operation British." The operation was named after the British Empire, which had declined after losing its own colonies.
Operation British involved forcing a large space colony out of its orbit and making it fall on Earth. The Zaku proved its effectiveness in the work of attaching a nuclear pulse propulsion system to a Side 2 colony, and in escorting it afterwards.
The colony's orbital speed was decreased over the course of several hours of nuclear pulse propulsion, and after making a half-circuit of the moon, it fell into an Earth-bound orbit. This course passed over the lunar city of Granada, during which time its defenses were effectively doubled. At the same time, as can be seen from the diagram below, it was in a position where Earth shielded it from the Federation Forces' main space base at Luna II, so it was to some extent protected from Federation Forces interference. |
