Ah, I reckon it was about three months ago, I saw a Card. The legend's everywhere now, y'know? But hell, I've never seen anythin' quite like this.

It all began when she came to town, some of our townsfolk called her the devil's daughter. I'm thinkin' she was still a kid, not quite eighteen years old yet. They called'er the devil's daughter for the long white hair an' pink eyes - one of them albinos the doc' later called her. An' one fine mornin' she came strollin' her way into town an' stopped at the inn. It was a cryin' shame y'know, she had no chaperone an' an accent like she never stayed in one place for very long, pickin' up pieces here and there. Anyways this girl came in the inn an' smiled politely at the 'keep, askin' him for a room. Y'wouldn't think she was holding a Card if you saw her just standin' there, she smiled real pretty and thanked the 'keep.

The next day, she was mindin' her own business, stayin' out of ours. Not one of us had an idea she was packin' one of those Guns, an' we were better off not knowing about it. Hell we wouldn't've known if it weren't for ol' Billy an' Bobby Rich, brothers who came into town that next evenin'. They were a rough and rowdy duo, Billy was the brain an' Bobby was the brawn. An' then before we knew it they were pickin' a fight with the sheriff outside the saloon an' shot him a couple o' times, messed him up real bad. The poor ol' sheriff didn't even have a chance to draw his gun. Them brothers didn't kill him though, no sir, they only hit his hand an' thigh. Them brothers were fixin' to finish the sheriff off though, seein' as he put 'em away for a robbery years back.
    >> Mathias Silva 11/02/09(Mon)08:16 No.6533988
Then the little lady that checked into the inn the night before came runnin' out lookin' terrified. Them brothers didn't notice her an' circled the sheriff like vultures, exchangin' some dirty words. An' I remember it clearly, brother Billy shoved the barrel of his pistol against the sheriff's head. An' everyone jumped at the first gunshot, an' it took a few seconds I reckon, 'til I realized what happened there. That little lady they called the devil's daughter drew out her gun from under her dress, I reckon the holster was on her thigh. It was silver-plated .45 six shooter I reckon, an' had a white handle an' a dove carved into the barrel. An' I remember the card imprinted on it too, but I couldn't see it at the time. An' in a split second this weird-lookin' Card raised an' fired. It hit Billy's gun dead-on an' punched a hole clear thru' one end an' out the other!

Now about this time, Billy an' Bobby are both furious. They look all around only to see a little angel standin' there to challenge 'em. An' the second Bobby drew his revolver we all heard a second shot. I reckon the second bullet from the young lady's gun tore through the revolver's handle an' blew off his thumb and several fingers. An' now Bobby falls to his knees bawlin' like a baby while ol' Billy is just fuming. I never heard such profanity used at a lady like what Billy said to that girl before, that's for sure. Then he pulled out a knife an' went lungin' at her, before the third and final shot from her gun. It hit him in the foot an' he fell over just a couple o' feet short of the girl.

Now by this point the deputy comes along with his big ol' rifle. an' the fightin's over. The deputy arrests the Rich brothers an' hauls them to jail, while the doctor came runnin' next. That mysterious little lady an' some of the bystanders helped move the sheriff to the doctor's, an' patched him up alright. The poor fella' will always walk with a limp for the rest of his life now though.
    >> Mathias Silva 11/02/09(Mon)08:16 No.6533991
I never saw the little lady again, but the doctor had a nice, long talk with her 'fore she left town. He an' I had a drink together a few days later, an' he tells me the little lady was a poor little orphan named Aimee, on her way up north to Philadelphia. 'Don't know what she's fixin' to do there, but the doc' said he doubted the girl could live much longer out here. He told me that girl didn't believe in killin' and didn't want to hurt a fly. It was only the third gunfight she's ever been in, and so far not one soul was lost in a fight where her "Peacemaker" fired a bullet. I reckon from what the doc' told me that evenin', she was just a child playing a game for adults, in way over her head. An' the doc' warned her, he said she would be the one who died if she wasn't willin' to kill someone with that gun. But y'know what she said? Seems she got this far all the way from Sacramento believin' she could end every fight peacefully. The doc' was very skeptical, but here I am thinkin' maybe she could do it alright, with that kind of faith.

Another thing the doc' told me, he said her Gun was the Seven of Hearts. To this day he an' I wonder how the hell a child like her got mixed up in the Cards, but I'll never know.

I like. That is a nice gun, and a nice girl.

But what happens if she goes up against a martial artist?

..Stupid question, she'd just shoot his hands off.

There are very few martial arts that compensate for "your kneecap is punctured clean through and your opponent won't come anywhere near you".

    Thanks!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about martial artists in the Wild Cards setting. Though it would be interesting to see some kind of Gun in the form of a prosthetic arm that only works well at close range. The wielder then uses it to give his martial arts moves a bit more bite.

    We need more Diamond fluff...
    >> Mathias Silva 11/02/09(Mon)08:50 No.6534208
    >>6534174
I chose Hearts here because albinos traditionally have terrible eyesight and can't hit the broadside of a barn with a normal gun. And a Gun specialized for disabling, directly hitting specific body parts to cause non-lethal injuries should be a Heart anyway, not a Diamond.

I agree though, more Diamond fluff is needed.

I just noticed something on the wiki..
    >Each of its four sides is marked with a familiar sigil pointing in one of the cardinal directions: North, a Heart; East, a Club; South, a Diamond; West, a Spade.
wtf? Why are they in the wrong directions?

    Diamond - East
    Spade - North
    Heart - West
    Club - South
is the normal association. Note that the colors have their own dimensions.

It was about four year ago now, down in Arizona. I'm down there with a bunch a' other poor sods prospectin' fer gems. There was a big ol' diamond rush 'bout that time, an' we figured on helping ourselves to a big score. Well, turns out we weren't the only ones. We get there and there's already this big old mine set up. Foreman's a decent feller though, sets us all up nice-like, and in return we jes give 'im twenty percent off the top of whatever we dig up. Suits us jes fine. But about a week in, foreman comes into the bunkhouse an says there's a buncha bandits comin to take the mine. Now we all're powerful scared, but he says if'n we stick with 'im we can hold it. 'Bout half of us blew town, an I woulda been one of 'em if I hadn't seen the king o' diamonds on that revolver a' his. I talked my boys into stayin, scared though they was, and at dawn th' next mornin' we went out to face 'em.

Now jes you picture this here; twenty miners, dirty 'n sweaty, half of 'em with slugtossers couldn't snap a twig, and the foreman with that Card o' his, and in front of us a cloud o' dust woulda taken fifty horses ta kick up. We see that cloud gettin' bigger an' bigger, 'til we can see th' horses, then the men, then their guns. We're all set to wet ourselves an' run, but the foreman just pulls that revolver. Looked like it was made outa bronze or somethin', with a polished cherry handle redder'n blood. He jes points it up in th' air an' tells us to do th' same with all our guns. So we do it, an by now I can see th' spit comin' offa th' bandits' horses. And this is th' part I will never forget. He levelled that beautiful revolver, an' all our guns moved with it. Then he squeezes off six shots, an' all our guns fire with him.

Now there's bandits fallin' off their horses left 'n right, when I hear the Card click empty. Well shit, I think, guess I ought ta make my peace. But he jes keeps squeezin' that trigger, and I swear to you our guns jes kept on spittin' bullets at them bandits. He keeps on clickin' that empty gun, an' we jes keep on firin', till there ain't no bandits left alive. I checked my gun later. All six chambers was still full. He closed up shop not long after. Weren't no diamonds down there to be had. But I heard about the same thing happenin' in a town near Tulsa. Guy with a bronze Gun he called Caesar laid out a whole jailbreak's worth of outlaws. Didn't leave a single empty casing behind.

Now whe you've lived through somethin' HALF as weird as that, you can "Sir" me. Meantime, buy me a whiskey, I'm thirsty.

Don’t ask me how I got this Gun. I never wanted it in the first place. It’s nothing but junk, a steaming pile of scrap metal. Never works when I want it to and always does when I don’t. Why do I still have it? Hell if I know…keeps me company on those lonely nights I suppose. It’s a shame all that company is though is death and destruction. But I don’t let it get too wild, keep it in its holster most of the time. Haven’t even fired it in about a year. You want to see it? Okay, just don’t tell anyone. It doesn’t like being known. Just hold still when I pull the trigger. You watching? It only lasts for a second…BANG…and it’s over. Hey, where’d your head go? You missed it! There’s a Blue Moon out tonight.

I've been meaning to go change that Pakistan thing, so thank you.

There's one more thing that bothers me about that time line, the whole thing happens over a 30 year period. I don't know why I thought that made sense at the time, but it seems pretty far-fetched now.

    What do you guys thing?

Should I extend some events? Would anyone object to the time period between the sacking of DC/Richmond and the birth of the city states being extended by, oh say, 20 years or so?

Seriously, 30 years is a single generation (give or take). I wrote the thing and it doesn't make sense.

I started with Spades pointing West because the "west" was where new and exciting things where happening, then just filled in the rest without thinking.

If there's already some info that supports other directions, then by all means go change it.

Ah I see. How does that determine the Cards special properties? Or is that still in the works as well?

    >>6542283
Will it implement any form of playing cards at all? Or is it still too early in its infancy to really tell? For some reason using cards/poker chips to determine bonuses or health levels seems like it might be an interesting idea.
    >> Anonymous 11/02/09(Mon)21:39 No.6542589
    >>6542516
To me, there's a problem with having bonuses or health levels in this setting at all. There's a whole lot of fluff and little to no crunch but the fluff leaves a lot open--why not keep it really rules light and plot based? Say, everyone gets dealt a hand, if anything comes up that would warrant a success/failure mechanic, have the player use a card against the GM's card.

I also like something someone said earlier, along the lines of any weapon the character uses being associated with a card, and that card being wild when used. Having one of the 52 makes the entire suit wild and the Gun's card superwin. Red joker means something good happens but nobody sees it happen, black joker means something bad happens and word spreads like wildfire.

Would the Dealer just top card, as it were? And would every one need their own decks?

Maybe others with Cards getting their own hand and maybe working it out the same way? Or using the already mentioned idea of an actual hand of poker against each other.

The only problem I am really seeing so far is how to handle multiply gunfighters at once.

    >>654266
One deck that gets reshuffled and redealt when it runs out.

Way I see it, with multiple gunslingers they're still mostly only firing at one person at a time. Unless there's a Card involved, in which case the GM's bad for involving a Card and not thinking it through.
    >> Anonymous 11/02/09(Mon)21:49 No.6542728
This is just a thought, so bear with me.

So if you have too many guns and they add up over 21, you bust, right? And in some games, can't the Aces can be counted as either ones or elevens?

Would it then be interesting to essentially give this world an ungodly powerful BBEG who possesses two Aces, perhaps of Spades and Clubs? A man who is a undefeated and whose name is feared (and thus forbidden to speak) even among the other wielders of the main 52, but is on a tier under the Jokers and Dealer in terms of influence and power. Just a thought, is all.

    >>6542728
Has potential. The Dealer would either hate or love the trickery that involves.

I don't see the Jokers having all that much influence though. The Red is barely known and people will probably avoid the Black for fear of being caught up in the inevitable BAD END.

Well, I like the settings, so I'm going to try my hand at writefagging. Be gentle, it's my first time.
    ___________

What? Yeah, I've carried a card before. Never used it, I didn't dare touch the blamed thing. It was back in Okaone. Some little town in the middle of no where. Injuns live there, almost half the population.

Anyway, you know how it gets hot, here? And sometimes there's the slightest breeze, nothing big, just enough to shake the grass and make it barely tollerable? It was just like that. I was with a wagon train, trading in a circuit between towns. Towns that small ain't got no railheads.

So everyone is packing up the wares, we've delivered what was ordered in the last circuit, and we've sold off what we're gonna sell this time. The wagon master starts getting everything in line, we're about to set out, and we start seeing smoke on the other side of town. The wagonmaster, name o' Stanely, doesn't want to slow down, or risk the wagons, but doesn't feel good about just leaving the village to burn, so he sends some of the guards and I over to lend a hand.

Perhaps there could be a specific exception to the rule that Aces are "always high", if this idea ends up being used at all?
Something like, if two Aces are possessed together, one counts as low. However, a third Ace would still be counted as high, and a bust. This special exception means one person can have two Aces, although I do feel like there should be some kind of massive drawback effect to owning two. Can't think of any though.

What? Jess shutup, you. I was faster back then. And I didn't have a dead arm. I was fast though, that's how I got the job; I ain't no Gunslinger, but I can pack iron like anyone else, and I'm a good shot, and fast too. Well, I was.

Anyway, we're running on over, turn the corner and stop dead. There's a dozen plus bodies in the street, and there's this psychopath with a can of kerosene, and he's splashing it all over the burning buildings and bodies. Laughing hysterically, too. I think we all reached for our guns as soon as we saw him. He did too, but first he put the can down. The moment he reached down, I saw his gun. Bone white. And with a red Diamond on it. I knew I was a dead man. KNEW.

I never did see a card quite like that one, an' I've seen many. Everyone with a card tends to pass through this saloon at one time or another. It just comes with being the Crossroads. All the players pass by at one point or another, whether at the beginning or the end of their game. Hell, I think I mighta' seen the Dealer himself once, but that might just be the drink talking. Coulda just been some other sap that I mistook for the big man.

I'm rambling, stop me next time, won't you? And poor me another shot. No, it's fine, my damn heart'll keep tickin' another twenty years knowing my luck. Where was I? The Card! That's it. Right. Well, the person who carried was a young woman. Kinda short, with short hair and rather nice clothes.

Oh get your mind out of the gutter. She wasn't a goddess or anything, but I wouldn't mind a quick squeeze, if you know what I'm saying. That is, until I got good luck at the girl's face. One of her eyes was clawed out by something, probably some big cat. She covered it with a bandage, but it was hard to stop from staring. You never would guess how disturbing it is to see only one eye blinking at you. He mouth was all jagged too, a twisting little mess a flesh that her look like she was grinnin' at everything. Even still, neither of those were the worst part.

She didn't move too gently. I don't know, it's hard to describe. It seemed that at any moment she would claw out a man's eye. It didn't take long till something like that happened. In retrospect, I wasn't surprised that she had a Card. Some poor sucker who didn't know better started talking to her. Two minutes later, and the poor bastard had drawn a gun on her. He was a quick one, and he had a fine piece. He could have gone far if he weren't so headstrong. He had the courage that only the foolish get, and it was obvious. The woman sighed, and then smiled. It sent shivers down my spine, and I knew that something was up. It was like watchin' a mouse try to frighten a lion.

She drew slowly, a whopper of a gun. It could have been the size of her forearm. Unlike some of the cards, this one was sooty and dirty, and looking at it made me feel a bit uneasy. I saw a scratched on symbol of a 9, and the familiar mark of the spade. It was like looking at something from a scrapheap, and I felt as though it was gonna shoot me down, even though I was behind the woman.

The gun went off with a scream. Shut it, I know more about guns then you ever will, and I'll draw faster'n you in my coffin. This Card screamed. Everyone in the bar dropped. I kept my composure, and I wish I hadn't. The poor bastard that got shot was screaming and wailing like a baby. He kept wailing long after he should have, and his hair was white and snow. It took the poor boy's friends nearly three days to get him to speak in coherent sentences after that. The girl didn't even fire a bullet, to the best of my knowledge. The kid didn't even have a scratch on him.

As for the woman? Well, she stole the man's horse and simpley rode away the next day. Never did get a chance to see that hell-bitch after that day, and I'm kinda glad I didn't.

Oh? Damn me, I've had too many drinks. The gun was Terror, the Nine of Spades. Some guns'll kill yeah. That one won't, but I think it's worse 'cause of that.

I'll admit, it crossed my mind just giving up. Or trying to run. Was short, though, I knew I wouldn't have gotten anywhere. He was busy killing and burning everything in the town, from what I could see of the street. And a diamond, I knew I couldn't get away fast enough.

So we're all drawing, and of course, he draws first. Despite carefully setting that kerosene can down. He brings it up to his shoulder, almost liesurely, except a dozen times faster than I could ever move. And his face... it's frozen in agonized concentration. You ever find something you have no hope of moving, and push on it? As hard as you can, just for the sake of trying? Like that. Giving it his *all*. And still, I've got my gun out of my holster, just, and a gunshot rings out. Jerry, to my left, falls backward with a hole in his head. I get my gun about a quarter of the way up, and Tom takes a shot through the head to my right. Both of them dead, and I know I'm next. I give up on lining up for a body shot, and just pull the trigger. Saved my damn life.

Goes right through his knee. He fell over on his face, and dropped the gun. There's a second shot, and the Gun goes sliding to my feet, and I'm amazed that I'm alive.

To be quite honest, I just stand there for a moment, and look at my iron. I went up against an actual Card, a real GUN, and not only didn't die, but won. I was awful proud, even if we had outnumbered him three to one.

The guy rolls over, though. He ain't dead, a knee shot won't kill you. Actually, I recall, I just started wondering why he wasn't screaming. A shattered knee hurts. And then it hit me, or rather, I realized HE had hit me. My right arm was dead. I couldn't move it. At all. Still can't, as you well know. A doc off in Dodge tol' me the bullet shredded something in the shoulder; the arms fine and all, but I just can't move it. Fingers are fine, just not the arm.

Sorry, I've griped about that before. You've heard it. Anyway, I walk up to the Gunslinger, and he's looking up at me. I couldn't move my right arm, so I took the gun out with my left hand, and pointed it at his head.

I'll never forget what he said. He just looked down the barrel of my slug thrower and said 'Thank you.'. Quiet as you please, and heartfelt.

    Ace of Spades "The Hangman"

Johnny Boy was a nightrider, one of dose cow hands who moved across da deep chaparral at night to avoid da heat of day. He come across a... firelight on a moonless night and finds a lone, horseless man sittin' in da fields with his dog.

Da man smiles at Johnny with a near toothless grin and axes him to take a seat. He don't do much after that, until the fire dies down and den he talks up. "Boy, you'se a nightrider. Been watchin' you for some time, and I think you'se got what it takes. Would you care to play a hand?"

Johnny Boy agreed to start up a game dinkin' thats all it was gonna be. He came out of it with a gun, probably one of da most fearsome: Da Ace of Spades, a .36 Cal Navy Colt. He awakes dat day at sunset and heads out for Coke County.

Johnny Boy arrives in some little piccadilly town in da midst of a gun-fight. He dismounts and draws his gun and sets it on da first gunman he sees, "Drop it." Da man turn and set his own gun on Johnny Boy; three seconds later, da man drops dead with out a single shot being fired. He turns to da dead-mans left gunman and repeats his command. Da second man, who witnessed the death of his leader, immediately complied.

After some time, Johnny Boy rounds up da fighters and turns dem over to da Sheriff. In da morning, da bodies are inspected and were found to have a rope burn around der necks. But Johnny Boy was long gone by den.

What? Of course I pulled the damn trigger! If you'd heard him, you would have too! Plus... his eyes. From that close I could actually see them... If anyone has ever looked into the pits of hell, it was him. I don't know what he'd seen, but I didn't want to.

After that, I went and picked up his gun. Not with my hands, mind you. Not after what he said. I took my shirt off, and wrapped that around my hand. It was a beautiful piece, mark you. A bit terrifying, though. Bone why, slightly blackened in places. Like it'd been burned clean in a fire. I never actually touched it, mind you, but it put me in mind of a real bone. Human bone. The end of the barrel was shaped like a demon's mouth, too. Spitting fire. And on the handle, one side was a red daimond, thee other a red '4', looking like someone had cut them in with a knife.

I wrapped that up in my shirt, and never touched it. Spent the rest of the circuit practicing my left hand shooting, and that got almost as good as my right had been.

The Gun? Sold it to a nice genn'lman from England, dapper type, said he worked for... Something-ham Small Arms, one of those shooter companies. They'd sent him out here to see if he could find a sample of the '"Legendary Wild Cards". Yeah, they weren't too sure they were real, but if they were, they were hoping to aquire a sample.

What do you take me for, a total bastard? Or just plain stupid? Of course I warned him. Before I even mentioned a gun, I told him the whole story. He was listening to anything that had a Card in it, I thought I could make some money if I sold it to him but didn't want to unless he understood. He seemed to, so I agreed. I even cut the price he offered by $25 just to get him to swear to be careful with that damn Card.

Yeah, I figure it's probably the Dealer. I've seen a Gun, I can belive in a Dealer. But... I don't know, if there's any gun that would go and seek out a 'slinger on it's own... I bet it would be that one. And I'd hate to be the person it found.

My idea for a gun is a single-shot, ancient old pistol that will never miss the target it's owner hates. It doesn't matter how far away they are, what's between the gun and them - that shot will hit them right in the back of the head.

The writefaggotry I have in mind is a guy who allows himself to get beaten up by the gang of an evil man, just so he can hate him enough to line up that unmissable shot. Final lines will be sort of:

"You'd be surprised how quick a man can get his own vengeance, kid, with the power to do so. These days, I mostly pass the hours gettin' revenge for other folks."

Though it wasn't inspired from the picture; On the 'Wild Cards' page on 1d4chan, it mentions that some whispered tales tell of Gunslingers thanking their killers with thier dying breaths. "What'd you say?"

The gunslinger snarled through rotten teeth at the thin bespectacled man who had broken the cardinal law of silence. A gold plated Gun bearing the six of diamonds waited in the holster at his hip.

    "I s-s-said... be q-quiet, p-p-please?” Reuben stammered.

"What're you gonna do if we don't?

It had been a month since "Diamond" Dan and his cohorts had waltzed in, shot the sheriff and claimed the town. Nobody wanted to tangle with a Card carrying gunslinger, and so the unsupervised gang quickly drove the pleasant town to ruin. Even the one room schoolhouse- of which Rueben had once been immensely proud- was now a pile of ashes, courtesy of a night of debauchery and arson.

"What're you gonna do if we don't?” the gunslinger inquired again, his fingers tracing lines around the number six on the Gun.

Of course, Reuben knew the answer he wanted to give, but trembling knees persuaded him otherwise. Fumbling for an answer that wouldn't displease the man with a Gun, he quietly offered, "I-I'd have to give you a demerit."

"Oh no, teacher's gonna give me a demerit!"

The gang of ruffians started laughing immediately. Burning with embarrassment, he quietly slunk away from the group. Returning to his corner of the saloon he was surprised to find a stranger shuffling a deck of cards...

    "How's your poker face, teach?"

The dealer's last words echoed as Reuben considered the worn Card in his hand- the six of diamonds. Covered in scratches, the six-shooter's dull barrel bore the engraved words "Knowing is Not Enough" in an elegant cursive. The cracked wooden handle, lashed together by some previous owner, was branded with a number and suit and fit comfortably in Reuben's hand.

Another loud crash drew his attention, Dan and his gang had begun harassing the bartender. Reuben stood slowly, sliding the Card into his back pocket…

Of course, Reuben knew the answer. He had always known. He also knew how Dan and his gang would respond. He had always known that too. Reuben smiled as the infinite web of possibility coalesced into a single outcome.

    “Call your bluff.”

Maybe I should have. I wanted to get a description of the gun in, and the bit about the guy not actually touching it. (for good reason.)

Incidentally, got any ideas for a name for it? I was thinking something like 'Prisoner' (refering to the wielder, rather than the gun,) or Hell's Reach (as in, if you hold the Card, you're in Hell's reach.)

You've heard about the Cards right? I mean who hasn't, tales of those Guns spread faster than wildfire. Tales of men who walk the world carrying weapons with insane power. Everyone's got their own tale of how they saw someone wield one of the Cards, but did you ever hear someone with two? Well you're about to find out...

I was heading down towards Texas, had reached a little town called Pilgrim's Point, apparently called 'cause a lot of people passed through there on their way to anywhere. The first thing I noticed when I got there was the place was COVERED in wanted posters, all with the same name on it: some bandit named "Deuces Wild". I figured it was just some cocky asshole with a grudge against the town, until I saw him roll into town a few days later.
    >> Anonymous 11/03/09(Tue)12:27 No.6550942
    >>6550873

The whole town seemed to hunker down like some cornered beast: windows were kept shut, doors were bolted, and every man woman and child seemed to have a gun drawn. The sheriff had apparently rounded up a bunch of men to take on Deuces Wild, a full dozen counting the sheriff. They waited in the middle of town, some of them looking more nervous than the townspeople.

Deuces Wild showed up at high noon on foot, walking straight towards the sheriff and his men as if they weren't even a threat, and he had this mad grin on his face, like he'd seen straight into the jaws of hell and liked what he saw. A full half dozen of the sheriff's men panicked and tried to rush him, and the cocky bastard just casually drew his Gun and gunned them down as if they were nothing. It was then that I saw which gun he had: a two of Spades was engraved on the handle, and the barrel had several stars of different sizes on it.
    >> Anonymous 11/03/09(Tue)12:49 No.6551198
    >>6550942

He stopped about 20 paces short of the sheriff and what men he had left, and everyone but the sheriff levelled their guns at him. However, Dueces still had that mad grin on his face, there wasn't the slightest sign of fear in him. Now that Gun of his was a six-shooter and was out of bullets, and any normal man would have been reaching for another gun, or at least should have been. The sheriff's men all fired at once, but I swear I heard 6 shots ring out, not 5, and something ringing out shortly after, like the sound of metal bouncing off metal. Deuces should have come out of that with 5 holes in his chest, but once the smoke cleared it was clear that he was intact.

"Well now, Mister Wild, it would appear that, even with your fancy Gun, you're still at a disadvantage, seeing as we outnumber you 6 to 1" the sheriff said in a rather prominant southern drawl. Then Deuces did something to even those odds in the blink of an eye: he shot the rest of the sheriff's men. It caught everyone offguard: in an instant he drew a Gun apparently from thin air and started firing, putting a bullet in each man bar the sheriff. He then holstered the Gun and it disappeared into thin air, but before it disappeared I got a clear look of it: it was another six-shooter, but smaller and less stylised than the Two of Spades, in fact it almost seemed plain and non-descript. The only thing unique about it was that had the Two of Diamonds engraved on the handle.

"And now we're even again, Sheriff...?"
"Yates. You'd best remember that name, as I'm gonna be the one that sends you straight to Hell, boy."
"Oh I'll remember it, I'll add it to the list of sheriffs I've killed! Now, do you want to face me with one bullet left, or do you want me to reload and face me at full power?"
"Oh I'd never let a man face me at anything less than full strength, Mister Wild, I am a man of honour, and I intend to remain that way."
"Doesn't matter to me either way, sheriff, because you know what they say..."
He put on a pair of black tinted glasses before continuing, for a reason I still don't understand.
    "Deuces Wild!!"

    Red Joker

Everybody knows that the Dead Man's Gun, the Black Joker, is a tool of Old Scratch himself. Owners that have it never die in a gun fight, but that ebony pistol'll getcha one way or another, and less pleasant than bein' shot too.

S'fer the red one... The red one's a bit... different. No fancy platin', no engravin', and most certainly not a slick cityboy six-shooter. The ol' red clown actually looks like a Baker, them Brit rifles. Some people say 'zeke Baker made it himself.

Funny thing, using a flintlock in the Wild West. The wood's red, an' most people reckon the color is from the wood bein' stained with blood and all but you know how folks like to talk. One thing for sure though : havin' it around just makes a man feel *good*.

Totally. The movie is like the prequel to the game setting. The huge shootout happens in Tombstone and then Black and Red Jokers fuck off, and the other 52 guns all get picked up by the Dealer and distributed to new players.

They will all meet up again (unbeknownst to them) and repeat the same horrible cycle and shootout until Red is successful at taking down Black at the end of days.

This is always by a mundane event - a heart attack, a sudden disease, falling off a horse and breaking your neck, that sort of thing. Four of Clubs "Fool's Gold"

Casey Clement was once a good kid, bit scrawny for his age but determined. Both his parents died when he was a youngin' an' he grew up alone. The day of his eighteenth, he went out west, to North California, to rustle up some gold to line his pockets. Clement worked for years an' years, slowly goin' Norther and Norther, 'til one day he woke up an' found himself pannin' near a preetty ol' lake in the Yukan.
He had spent his nights at a goldhunters camp with a bunch of other men seeking to line their own pockets. All this time, Casey Clement was jus' gettin' bigger an' bigger. By the time he hit this lake, he'd gone from skin'n'bones to a mountainous man. He was well liked an' was enjoyed in the company of the others.

One night Casey found hisself playing a game of pinochle with a bunch of loons and broads, he was pullin' winnin' hands all night but kept the spirits of the others up with rounds on rounds. Some time after the others had gone up and shacked with their various mates, Casey Clement sat alone in the bar with only the tender for company.

"I thinksssssss, I'll be havin' one more, Joe..... Joe! JOE! I wanna 'nother beer, man."

Joe looked up and called out, "Goddammit, Clement. Last call was two hours ago."

"Be a pal... man *hic* and let me have 'nother... ummm... pint... yeah thasssit *hic*. I'll payss you double.... No, triple."

Not willing to let such an opportunity to tear into the purse of such a hopeless drunk, Joe gleefully obliged an' hurried into the back. As he walked out, another man walked in. A biggun, not like Clement mind, but big enough.

He approached Clement at his tabled and laid down a deck of cards, a pack that look liked it was brought right out of the 12th century.

"I hear you'se a lucky man, Clement. How's 'bout we play a game and see how lucky you are?"

Immediately sobering up*, Clement turned and looked at the man trying to discern his facial features. "What kinda game?"

"Well a card game, any'll do." replied the man.

    "What's your wager?"

"No wagers. Just a test of luck. Lets see... will you pick a card?" The man fanned out the cards and held them out to Casey Clement. Slowly, Clement obliged the man and pulled a card: The Four of Spades.

As he held it, Clement noticed that the card had the spades centered with a single gold coin. He looked up to ask the other man about it, but he was gone.

"Fuckin' waste of time," cursed Clement throwing his card onto the table, where it slid across the surface and fell off of the other side with a heavy thud.

A thud? Clement nearly flipped the table over in his attempt to see what happened. There, on the ground, was the prettiest God-Damned rifle he had ever saw. With a stock made of ivory, surely, and four barrels made of silver, the gun nearly made Clement drool.

He held the weapon up in reverence, inspecting it closely, now. The ivory was inlaid with jade in the shape of leaves and had a single cold coin surrounded by four gold and green jade clovers. He sighted the weapon just as Joe walked back into the room.

Instantly upon seeing the weapon, Joe dove behind the counter and came up with a gun of his own, a little slug tosser.

"Give me that purty weapon and I won't have to be a blasting you, Clement."

"Joe, I wasn't gonna shot ya. I just was lookin' at..."

"I DON'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK! GIVE ME THE GUN OR I'LL GIVE YOU ANOTHER HOLE TO SHIT OUTTA!"

Clement turned slowly towards Joe and then with the speed of a trained gunsman, he fired off all four barrels before Joe could even think to react. Joe dropped deader than anything he had ever seen. The gun itself was flowing with a hot viscous liquid that burned and cracked the wood of the floor. It was gold, pure liquid gold.

Casey Clement went over to the body and saw the damage he'd done. Joe's body was covered in bleedin' sores each matched with a single golden pellet, like those outta a shotgun.

Clement stood up, cursed Joe as a fool, left the bar, hitched up his horse and left town.

Here, I'll post my thoughts on the Black Joker.

    1. The owner should die within a set period of time after obtaining the gun. Could be the day after, but the owner cannot live beyond the set period of time, even if the owner passes it on or cheats death once, twice or thrice. Death will absolutely get him.

    2. The owner cannot die in a gunfight or shoot out.

    3. If no one else can pick it up after the current owner dies, like all other cards, it goes back to the dealer to be drawn again.

    4. You know how some guns choose their wielders? The Black Joker could very well choose its wielders for those with a purpose. Those that need that gun. Settling a score, revenge, protecting something important to that person, or whatever.

    5. That doesn't mean it ends up in the hands of good people, though. The people who wield it tend to have intentions against that of the other 53 Gun wielders.

Just what I feel should be the case.

I like all of these, but I also like the >>6552283 part too. However, it shouldn't be standard fare or known at all in the game setting. If anything, it should occur as like a one-of story, that it happened one time and was abused by a verrrry bad man. Losing the gun was what killed him.

That's a pretty damn good way to blend the ideas. Now, I have an additional one.

What if this one man who cheated death was the Black Joker wielder in the Tombstone incident?
    >> Anonymous 11/03/09(Tue)15:44 No.6552913
    >>6552888

Yeah, absolutely. That's what I was hoping for too. That's generally *why* the gun kills people when it picks them up and has a time limit on it. Because if not, the wielder generally tends to try and round up all the cards in one shot and it causes a lot of asspain for everyone involved (including the Dealer, since he has to find good candidates for taking the cards).

The tavern was old and musty, yet still somehow cozy and familiar. I walked in and sat down at the closest vacant table, telling the barkeep to get me a glass of milk. He looked at me funny as I said this, then walked away to fetch me my beverage.

Ten minutes later, a man walked in. He reeked of gin and despair, his raggedy clothes saying all they needed to about his social status. Still, he somehow found the money to pay the barkeep for his whiskey on the rocks. I cursed under my breath when I noticed him walking my way.

"Eh, boy, this 'ere seat taken?"

Not wishing to offend, I offered him a chair. He sat down. The smell of alcohol on him was palpable. It was him, not I who started the conversation.

    "So, boy, where ya from?"

I looked into his scarred face, his sad, soulful eyes. "London, sir. Where are you from?"

He laughed a bit, then spit on the ground. "London, eh? You one'a them there Brits, is yeh?" He laughed and drank some more of his whiskey. At this point he used the bottle rather than a shot glass.

"Yes, sir. I am indeed from Britain."

    "Well, Mr. God-save-the-Queen, how'sa 'boutsa story, eh? It's a good'un, I swear it. Heh."

Not wishing to be rude, I politely agreed.

Little British bastard was as cowardly as the come. I reckon he was more yeller than a canary! Still, he was a good guy. That tea shit you limeys make, that ain't too bad, I 'spose. Doesn't beat good ol' whiskey, though.

"Now this camp'a ours was a real nice place. Real peaceful like, see. Well, one day our friend Percy runs inta camp, hootin' and hollerin' up a storm. Turns out, see, el Soldados de la Muerte were comin' into town."

"Excuse me, please explain. Who are they?" I asked. I was new to America, and was here only on matters of business.

"Well, see, they're a group'a real bad Mexican hombres. 'Soldiers'a Death' is what that fancy name'a theirs means. They was soldiers in the Mexican war when their whole damn platoon got marooned, or somethin' like that. They was angry as hell about losin' the war, I'll tell ya that much. I think the black joker would do well with a sort of "One Ring" aspect too it.
It's always trying to get back to it's master (death) and manipulates situations and circumstances in order to bring death about.
You can drop the "slowly drives the bearer powermad" part if you like. Meaning, the holder doesn't automatically begin to downward slide. Of course, wielding a gun of that power could very naturally incline someone to that sort of mindset on their own.

I just like the idea as it imparts a sort of power to the gun that is beyond manipulation or control, and I feel it sits well with the whole idea of the gun having a sort of "personality" of sorts. It would also explain how the gun never gets lost, as it always finds a way into someone's hands.

So, I started ta walk forward, on account of me leading this here expedition, but a hand comes onta my shoulder. It was Quincy! Little bastard steps forward.

"'I'll fight you, if you'll leave us be.' I couldn't believe it. He walked up ta me, and he says, 'Don't worry, I've got this all handled.'

"So he steps forward, and pulls out a shotgun. Damnedest thing: I'd never seen if 'fore then. It was all silver-like, with a black wood handle. On the handle was a little card, the Five'a Clubs, and that's when it hits me: that little Brit got his hands on a Card! I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Well, the Mexican waits, and just as the clock we had chimes off ta signify the draw, BOOM, a gun fires. What happened next, well, it was just damn spooky's what it is.

"It felt like time slowed down. I know, you think I'm crazy, or drunk, or any combination of the two, but I'm tellin' ya, time slowed down. All my boys felt it, too. It was so slow, we could actually watch the damn bullet flying through his leg! It hit 'im right on the kneecap, so damn hard it bent the leg backwards. Then, the leg seemed ta just turn inta mist, a bloody red mess that slowly rippled outward. I'd never seen a Gun shoot before, but mister, I wish I hadn't.

"So the Mexican feller falls to the ground, dead'a shock I think the doc said. The banditos ran as fast as they could ta get outta there. Never seen 'em ever again. As for Quincy... I don't know. I have a good concept for the Ace of Clubs and its holder. I'll do some writefaggotry for it later if people agree with it.

I'm thinking here that the Ace of Clubs would be a black lever-action pistol named Abaddon, in the hands of an old catholic priest who has long ago lost his faith. Still dresses the part and is mostly a good man, though.

The power of the gun? Sheer, unadulterated firepower. It blasts anything it even so much as grazes into non-existence, individual bullets traveling in a focused line for up to a mile. It'll punch a massive hole into one side of a train and out the other and keep going as if it was paper.

I'm trying to write a good spade here, and I'm drawing a blank.(oh god the pun)

I've got two powers, and two options for name, but a good story I dont got.

    # of spades, the Black Swan
everything you do is exactly as quiet as you want it to be. you could be in hobnail boots on
a squeaky wood floor, and make no noise. when it goes off all thats heard is a POP like a shirt button busting

(yes I cam up with two and am having a hard time dealing with them)

Black Cat=the gun isn't particularly special, but having it makes you agile, that is all it does. some spades do trick shots(see the story of 'ocho' on the wiki) this one takes quite ordinary shots, and lets you do the tricks backflips, frontflips, cartwheels, juggling, or all four you MUST be doing a trick to use this gun.

C'mere boy. I gots a story for ya, if yer up for buying me a drink!

Not interested, huh? It's about an ol' friend o' mine, name of Jude. Father Jude. He was a preacher, ah, priest from Boston I believe. The fella' moved out all the way here with his sister 'bout ten years back. They were Catholic, the sister was a widow and Jude was fixin' to set up a church out this way. 'Said he needed to get away from the city, don't know why an' I never asked. So 'bout ten years ago, he's got his church and joins this town's little community. It's all swell, there were plenty of catholics here already.

Few years pass, they're enjoying a quiet life. Me, I'm not a religious man, but I had nothin' against the fella. So Father Jude and I ended up becoming friends one day when my mamma passed on. Helped my kin more than any preacher ever would'a tried, y'know. He was what you expect from a priest - tall, wears black with that white collar, never set foot without this big ol' tattered hat of his. Never set foot in the bar, never flirted with the ladies, was polite and well-mannered. You'd be surprised just how well he fit in here.

Well, all that went to hell when Draco came into town. Who's Draco, y'ask? Who's he? Haha, why he's the most fearsome outlaw ever to set foot in town! Came in on a horses with some gang of his and staged a takeover of the town. Sheriff was the first to go, was real bloody too. Draco was one of those wild Guns. Y'know, he held a Card, the Five of Hearts. Called it the Heart Attack, since anyone who got shot with it died of one later, if they survived the initial shot that is. After that, for a while Draco had complete control of town. No one left without his permission, no one even pissed or shit without word from him, that's the kind of iron grip he had. Egomaniacal, I tell ya, he lived for control.

Anyways, this Draco fella' did the unthinkable - he raped an' murdered that poor girl, Jude's sister. Real tragedy too, it just 'bout shattered his whole world and stripped him of his faith. I remember he crushed her rosary in anger!

Few weeks after her funeral, Jude and I are playing cards with this Brit' in a black suit passin' through town. He's dealin' the cards, we play a while, tryin' to cheer up Jude. No gamblin', 'course, Jude's still a priest then. As we play, the Brit' learns a little more 'bout Jude, big grin on his stinkin' face. I knew somethin' was up, an' I was waitin' for an opportunity to confront 'em. But the man gets to his objective first - he takes a new deck out from under his hat, an incomplete deck for god knows what. The brit's offering the both of us to take a card, and I reject him but Jude just sits there and thinks 'bout it for 'bout a minute. Then he plucks a card out of the deck, and it's the Ace of Clubs. We both take a look at the old card, then glance back up to the ol' Brit', but 'course by then he's vanished outta thin air. We both look back down at the card, but 'course there's no card there anymore an' Jude's holding a Gun.

It's a beauty of a gun, too. All black, lever-action pistol that fit Jude's hand just fine, just fine indeed. No markings, 'sides a white Club on one side of the barrel an' a white A on the other. He stares at it for the longest time, then looks up at me an' says the words I sure dreaded to hear. He looks an' says to me, "I know what I have to do."

An hour later, Draco and Jude are face to face outside the sheriff's old place, an' ol' Jude's challenging 'em to a duel. Draco's kinda amused, he knows he killed Jude's sister an' he's surprised the priest has the guts to threaten him. What Draco doesn't know is that Jude has a damn good Card in his coat, and a piece he borrowed from me in his hand. So Draco thinks that ol' iron is all Jude's got, and accepts the challenge immediately. Things happened real fast after that, they set up for the duel. Me, I'm shakin' in my boots, ain't got no idea how things are gonna turn out, but Jude's acting all cool an' confident. Draco's kinda nervous now, he's not used to people not bein' afraid of him.

Now they're facin' each other for the draw, an' one of Draco's boys flips a coin, tellin' 'em to draw when it hits the ground. An' they do that, the coin hits the ground an' Draco pulls out his Heart Attack an' fires a shot right for Jude's heart. Now I'm sure Jude's a dead man, ain't no one gonna survive a shot from that gun. Jude's got his Ace of Clubs' out from his jacket and lined up half-assed like at Draco at this point. The sound of Jude's gun ain't a bang like a normal Gun, though, more like a metallic shriek. Now I'm expectin' Jude to fall over dead or at least injured, but he stays there, standin' still and unharmed. All us bystanders look over to Draco an' realize he ain't there no more. All that's left are his feet, everythin' above the ankles was blown away by some tremendous force. Then I notice a huge hole in the building behind Draco, an' it keeps goin' and goin' until the bullet left town, like nothing could ever stop it, an' anything it grazed was blasted to oblivion. That evenin', this town witnessed the power of an Ace first-hand.

After that? Jude up and left town, takin' only what he could carry on his back. Before he left, I only saw him that one time. 'Asked him why he was leaving, but he doesn't say much to me. Just says that he can't stay anymore, now that he's no longer a priest an' all, even though he's still wearin' the damn collar. He says he's going to put 'Abaddon' to good use though. Abaddon, that's what he called his new Gun. Seems to be the name of the Angel of the Abyss, I hear. Fitting, I'd say. So, Jude wished me well an' told me to take care of everythin' for him while he's gone, that maybe when he's found his way out he'll find his way back here. An' that was the last I ever saw or heard of my ol' friend, Father Jude.

And in case it's not obvious to you readers, the bullet of the Ace of Clubs disintegrated the bullet of the Five of Hearts on its way to Draco.
