There is much to see, and you stand, thanking her for the morning tea. As you walk and speak in greater detail of her charges, she scrawls in her diary.

Letting Violet find her feet, you walk to the rear stairs by the breakfast dome and descend to the rear yard. The grass is still manicured, although who knows how long that will last.

The air is fresh and crisp, and you enjoy the cool breeze as you follow the stone path past the flowers and shrubs. It is still an invigorating feeling, and much different than your life before.

What a month.

Passing the hedges, you continue further and out of sight of the house. The yard is quite lengthy before it reaches the rear fence, and you know there is much that you have yet to find. According to the deed there is an old well somewhere on the premises, but you are yet to find it.

Eventually you arrive at the rear fence. A large area has been cleared, a large area of grass cut flat to house a gazebo and small bench under a peach tree. You realise that in all your time coming here as a child, you never saw this place. Either you stayed near the house or it is a recent addition.

The air seems freshest here, just before the drop-off, and you sit on the bench a moment before a small intercom switch set into the gazebo sounds.

"Erm... is this on? Lunch is ready, master. Will you take it here?"

Leaning back into the bench, you pull out your iPod and switch on TMNT while you wait. the episode is one of the rare ones which had Casey Jones in it, so that's cool.

As the episode ends, you realise that Violet is standing patiently next to your seat, hands folded neatly in front of her. Having not heard a thing, you immediately start, causing her to raise a hand to her mouth awkwardly.
As you compose yourself after her apology, she speaks.
"Lunch is served, master."

Shanding and following her lead, you approach the gazebo to find that the entire spread has been laid out. That must be why she took so long, she set up before disturbing you. Allowing yourself to be guided to the seat, she clears her throat.
"Master, there is soup today, so..." gently she puts a napkin across your pants professionally before dishing out a bowl of a thin pumpkin soup as a starter.
The soup is rather good, you have to admit.

As you eat, Violet starts to talk as she offers a bottle of white wine.
"Forgive me for being impertinent, but I was wondering what you do for a job, master."

You always felt a little guilty that while some people have to toil their lives away, for you work is always going to be a mere hobby; something to do until you grow bored of the job (if you even choose to do it). But seeing Violet, someone who has trained for a life of servitude to people such as yourself, the feeling is stronger than usual and you can't help but sound apologetic.

You curse yourself inside your head for not sounding a little more manly about it.

Picking up on your tone, Violet's voice turns even gentler than usual. "Not having to work is nothing to be ashamed of, master. You seem rather grounded and intelligent, which means that you aren't wasting the life that your wealth has given you."
She grins a little reassuringly.
"Besides, you could afford to hire me and bring me here, so I'm pretty thankful that you're rich."

As you finish your soup, Violet cleans the plate away and brings out a plate of grilled chicken with fresh salad.
"I hope this is to your liking..." she half states, half asks before moving back to her place behind you.

Hearing about your request for parmesan on future salads, she nods sagely and commits it to memory. You notice she didn't go for her book on that one.

After eating another mouthful, you ask about her family and where they are. However, your sixth sense immediately tells you that you've asked a very delicate question, and you stay your hand from the plate, quickly thinking whether to tell her not to worry about it.
Exhaling softly, her voice carries a flat, lifeless tone.
"I don't know. My mother died when I was young, and my father gambled our money away between Spain and Morocco. That's... how I ended up at the Academy."

The silence afterwards is filled only by the breeze blowing from across the mountain.

"...I'm sorry." Her voice regains some composure. "It wasn't so bad. I mean, I was given a real education and was able to make some good friends at the Academy, so it turned out just fine."
