WHEN WE LAST LEFT OUR BAND OF HEROES...

"The plan is this: We will make full speed to the town of Escobal, we know it is full of refugees and it's hoped that the Feds wont bomb it with us nearby. The downside to this plan, is that there's a chance that we might get caught before we reach it. In a worst case scenario, you are to scatter and regroup at Los Negros, and make your way back into america and try to rejoin the 2nd or 3rd divisions. Good Luck gentlemen. We'll need it."

After a botched attempt to land at Colon, you ended up having to stop in Pelmas Bellas, on the wrong side of the lakes, ultimately precluding you from making it to Panama City by the deadline. The town was completely devestated by the Colony Drop, and you quickly come under attack by Federation forces.

In an hour, the 2nd and 3rd divisions will be staging their assault on America, at which point it's hoped that the two FULL Federation Army Divisions will retreat back up towards North America.

You are DAVID LISTER, ace pilot of MASTODON BATTALION along with your wingman ZOLOMON RINGO and CO, Sgt. WOLFGANG STRAUSS.

Mastodon Battalion is a decoy force, sent into Mexico to travel south and to draw the attention of Federal forces. With one Division already on your kill sheet and another 2 bearing down on you, you've certainly done that.

Attatched to it is the Loki, a highly temperamental Minovsky Particle Emitter. It hasn't been working properly since you stopped in San Jose.

The Minovsky particle is piece of psuedo-science that makes Giant Robot's viable (well, part of)
Essentially it's a type of particle that blocks high frequency radiation, and forms a natural lattice structure. It's invention has the following effect.
Jams radar and radio with 100% effectiveness, thus rendering guided weapons and modern command control systems useless.
Blocks nuclear radiation, allowing for the construction of super-small Nuclear Fusion Reactors. Meaning that we can create a powersource sufficient to move a giant robot about at a decent lick.

As for the other reason why Zeon is using Mobile Suits:

    1) They're cool
    2) AMBAC allows them to alter their inertial direction without using fuel in space
    3) We honestly didn't think we'd actually have to do any fighting on earth.
    4) They're really cool

No seriously, the Feds were VERY close to surrendering after we dropped a space colony on earth, but then they changed their minds, declared Nukes, Bio-Tox Warfare and Colony Drops Illeagal to both sides and here we are.

    There's more here: http://www.ultimatemark.com/gundam/

Yeah. Basically, the particles make long range attacks useless, and requires the use of these armored suits for close range combat. Relatively close.

Not until September/October man, and you WILL be going up against the Gundam sooner or later.

Anyway, you've got to make it to Escobal in 45 minutes or less, that means a LOT of high speed hiking.

Cross country and over a couple of rivers as well. You walked right through guatemala in four hours, but that was using open terrain and roads.

Oh, and when I say 45 minutes, I mean "Before the Ground forces arrive".
Expect planes on your ass a lot sooner, you hardly threw back that probing attack in Pelmas Bellas you know.

Anyway, the two remaining MS Companies are in close formation with the Prancer in the middle, the Loki isn't activated, but the Prancer's Minovsky Emitter is. The Lugguns are out providing AWAC support and the Mech Infantry and AA Tanks are in close formation with the MS.
Expect their help more often this time around.

It was fluff invented after the fact, for the most part. The rules concerning M-Particles only apply to the Universal Century Gundam series and most of the rules were invented later - some by fans and were adopted officially, and others were set down by Sunrise/Bandai.

Yeah no. Details about Minovsky Particles were included in Tomino's original series pitch. It was just never fully explained.

Even if that wasn't the case. The rules for M-Particles were officially published by the shows primary contributors in 1981.

    ANYWAY.
The Zaku tanks have been loaded up with bridge building equipment, making the river corssing relatively quick, none of the hills are that steep at this point and you are making good time.

After 10 minutes of traveling the Lugguns start signalling incoming air forces. It looks like another probing attack of 15 fly-mantas.

Do you break out to engage, or do you wait for them to come to you and take them out with your combined fire?

Yeah, it's bad because by being in an elevated position, it's easier to have the Anti-Tank weapons target more vulnerable parts of the Zaku. Whereas the Type-61 Tank that we've been dealing with before has trouble elevating high enough to not hit the shins of our MS, which are specifically designed to take those shots.

Keep in mind that those Fly Manta's ARE still on the way.

Once Fly Mantas get close enough, toss up a cracker to scatter them while the guy with the 2 heat hawks simultaneously throws one like a tomahawk in an attempt to take out a few Fly Mantas but mostly as an intimidation tactic.
Then he ignites thrusters and afterburners to jump into the air to swat another Fly Manta out of the sky with his remaining heat hawk.
Meanwhile the first thrown heat hawk will have landed in the midst of the enemy ground platoon with the Zaku in the air soon to be following.
The other two will be giving covering fire to accompany the heat hawk shenanigans.

You toss a quick grenade towards the area, there's a compound WHOMPF as your cluster bomb devestates the area. There's a secondary explosion of a small ammo supply, and the small arms fire from the position ceases.

The rest of your forces open fire on the incoming fighters, filling the night sky with fire.
The curtain of fire takes them by suprise, 8 of them explode or crash in the opening salvo, the rest drop their bombs haphazardly and try to make a retreat.
    Another three die in this.

I don't know why, I don't even KNOW anyone affected by domestic violence.

After taking out the entire Fly Manta squadron before they were able to escape the Minovsky field, they effectively dissapeared without a trace.

The Feds stopped sending probing attacks after that. Another 10 minutes and you're able to cross another river, and you finally reach a road.

Do you take the road route? Or do you continue straight cross country to Escobal?

Although the road is a more circuitious route, odds are it will have bridges over rivers. There may even be other villages and towns on the road that you can hole up in instead.

It IS however a slightly longer route.

Were down to two full companies of mobile suits, in working but battle damaged order. The Dopp pilots are currently damn near comatose, as they've had even less sleep than anybody, and it wouldn't suprise me if a couple of the dead ones died because they passed out mid-flight.

    >Fuck it. Let's take the road.

You take the road. On stable ground your forces are able to pick up the pace, making excellent time.
You reach the now deserted town of Dos Hermanas almost immiedietely, the small town appears completely empty. It appears to have suffered only minimal damage from the colony drop, yet everybody appears to have packed up and moved out.
There's not enough cover here to protect you, you continue onwards.

It's a similar story when you pass through Achiote and Providencia, the small villages are completely deserted.

    You continue on the road.

Fontaine makes an announcement over the tannoy:

"NOW HEAR THIS. NOW HEAR THIS. We are currently changing plans. We are changing our destination to La Treinticinco, north of Escobal. Were hoping that this town will be habitated due to it being closer to the capital and to Colon. Your retreat route will be towards Colon should a retreat be called. We are now close enough to activate the Loki. It will not be de-activated until 12 midnight. THAT IS ALL."

Zeon threw in their support with the revoulutionaries, even going so far as to send Mobile Suit teams to help back them up.
In the ensueing coup, Side 6 became a neutral self controlled colony cluster, you family however lost their home in the fighting.

You emigrated to Side 3 and joined up with the military in June last year. Your training was somewhat accellerated due to wartime measures, and here we are.

You continue down the road, always on the lookout for approaching enemies.
With the Loki activated, you take a more dispersed patrol pattern since you have a wider Minovsky field to play with.

After five minutes the terrain levels out somewhat allowing you a better view of the area. You can see the town of La Treinticinco two miles away, studded with lights from windows, houses and the fires of the large makeshift shanty town that has risen up in front.

The Lugguns report a pair of Medea transports retreating south. Possibly after dropping off ground forces.

Your squad is marching adjacent to the road when you see a semi muffled flash of light in the distance. As you hear the whistling of the incoming shell you sidestep to the left, as a plume of dirt rises up from the shells.

You pull back, with the intent of heading in a new direction. The tanks seem unwilling to follow you. You flank the units by travelling north, at which point a unit of APC's attacks their positions, backed up by a squad of Zaku's.

You seal the deal by attacking from their flank, in the dark, with their radio cut off they are taken completly by suprise.

We have to get into some sort of defensive position, if an entire division catches us on the march it'll be a massacre.

As far as pursuing the tanks goes, I think it's more important to keep the cover of a civilian town than to notch another few tank kills on our MS hull. Use the civilians as a shield to prevent flat-out bombing/artillery from long range turning mastodon to a fine mist.

Go read Revil's "Zeon is Exhausted" Speech on wikipedia. That accurately descibes what was right and wrong with Zeon.

Also, I'd rather be a country full ran by assholes than a country ran by incompetants.

After seeing off the tanks, the Prancer finally reaches the outskirts of the city, and it begins to start sending out lasercom messages rapidly.
    Almost frantically.

The Lugguns are starting to return as well, a sure sign that things are about to get dicey.

After a good two minutes the game of chinese whispers finally filters down to strauss and then to you.
There are roughly 100+ military planes circling around us, just outside the minovsky particle range.
Coming up from the north are two Big Tray Battleships and around 370 tanks.
The terrain, though hilly, is largely flat affording little in the way of cover for your zaku's, but plenty for the tanks.

Looks like one way or another, things are going to end in the next twenty minutes.

I don't think the Prancer + Loki would survive rushing the enemy, it is a very big target. Our best bet would be writing off the Prancer and start evacuating it now, and then once the loki goes down, have all ms close with the incoming tanks, so that the enemy's shelling and bombing will be restricted by their own troops. Have the infantry spread out to the buildings in the town to protect the crew of the Pancer and support us where they can.

This speech is assuming we can speak freely between each other and not worry about Fed forces hearing it.

"Anyone who can hear me, this is David Lister, a young man, scared, and anxious, and even afraid of what's to come. I'm sure that some of you feel the same way. And I don't think anyone could blame you for it.

But there's no time for that. No time for David Listers and Zolomon Ringos. There is only time for soldiers. Men willing to do what is right, and what is necessary for our brothers and sisters. Here we will stand. And we will fight. And we will win. Not because it is destined to be, or because God is on our side, but because we stand here together. As one.

We will stand tall, and we will not waiver. When we fall, we will pick each other up. And we will win. Because we have to. Because it is what is right. It is what is needed.

This isn't so bad. Plus, with a Zaku with such a distinctive paintjob, there is no way you're going to e able to survive.

Perhaps our forces can provide some kind of epic covering fire and perhaps some distractions as you remotely control the loki, whilst standing on it firing into the Feddies. Effectivly surfing.

Several minutes later, the attack begins.

Flights of Fly mantas begin to make short passes on the town. They start dropping bombs, trying to elicit a reaction.

Zaku squads start to fire back on the move, firing in short controlled bursts.
Then the tank squadrons start to enter the fray. Bitter urban fighting opens up.

There are tanks everywhere, it's almost impossible to find cover, a street with no tanks on it.

Periodically you see green flares fly up from elsewhere and then a massive succession of explosions as Depp Rogg bombers level the area.

The three of you are covering each others back. In such close quarters, the blasts from Zolomons Bazooka are able to take out clusters of them at a time.
You yourself account for at least twenty tanks, with Strauss doing equally well.
The tanks continue to come in waves, and you continue to keep on the move as building are demolished in the fighting, or just to avoid Planes on strafing runs.

Zolomon quickly runs out of ammo, tosses the bazooka, and then pulls out his heat hawk.

You start giving him covering fire with your rifle and a cracker grenade, as he charges forwards. Scattering the tanks, he takes a couple of hits on the charge, leaving smoking holes in his Zaku, but it does nothing to slow him down.

He dives into the formation and slashes a couple. He then props the two of them up as a makeshift barrier. Fire hammers into their metal hulks, as you join him behind the barrier, using them as much needed cover.

You're combined fire deals with this particular wave, leaving you to wait for the next one.

At which point, one immobilised tank fires a red flare. Weird you haven't seen one of those yet...

    You: 24 Tanks
    Strauss: 22 Tanks

You just manage to evacuate the area when a massive single shell devestates the area. Taking a higher position atop a church you see that one of the Big Tray's has moves to close support range.

The smoke is beginning to dissipate, but the area still looks clear. Tanks are giving the area a short shrift in case the Big Tray fires again.

As you go to advance, maybe get lucky and take out another Big Tray, you hear a loud roaring horn behind you.

You're rearview cameras show the looming form of the looming form of the Prancer, travelling at full tilt.

You dive out of the way, as it carreens past you, just clipping the church.

You follow it as it bounds forwards over the rough, but essentially clear terrain left by the crater and in leaves the limited protection afforded to it by the village.

Seeing this, several tanks begin to fire at it, but you draw their fire with bursts of fire from your squad.

Then the Big Tray notices the looming Land Cruiser advancing towards it and begins firing.

The Prancer, several hundred tonnes of metal jinks to the side like it's a childrens toy tossing several tanks up in the air as it does so.
It then starts spinning on it's front axis. The rate of it's rotation increases quickly, and it's then you notice that your Minovsky particle rating is up to 110%.

Which isn't even supposed to be possible under the laws of physics.
It would also explain the wierd background static you've been getting on the radio.

Spinning now at high speed, the Prancer continues it's erratic careen towards the Big Tray, which is continuing to try and track it with fire.

You distract it with a few more shots from yourself.

At which point the Prancer pops a single white flare.

You retreat double time back to the town, in your rear-view you see the Prancer disconnect the Loki at just the right time and it flies towards the big tray, ignoring the shells flying into or bouncing off of it.

The Prancer, now half the weight it used to be begins a high speed almost sideways retreat, side mounted thruster kick in and it rockets towards your covering position.

In the aftermath of the explosion, the airforces surrounding you are in retreat, along with the rest of the tanks.

A couple of Zaku Tanks help right the Prancer along with you, and they launch a couple of Lugguns.
The entire division, plus a second one that was coming up from the rear are in full speed retreat back to america.
It seems that word's reached them that it's raining men over Seattle and Washington - hallelujah.

The explosion was blamed on a accidental and unpreventable failure of experimental equipment, and due to the fact that the minovsky particle density effectively ensures that there will be next to no radiation, it's not considered a breach of the treaty.

Counting up your dead, you're left with 11 mobile suits and about a third of your mechanised infantry company. The AA Tanks are down to five though.

Of the 5 Dopps providing aircover, against several hundred planes, only 2 were killed. Each one accounted for no less than 20 kills during those twenty minutes of combat.

All are decorated heavily for their performance, but not as heavily as the pilot of the Prancer, who receives more fruit salad than even the Zeonic uniform can safely accomodate.

    5 kills I'm pretty sure.

    Or maybe it's 30
Doesn't matter, either way we're bad enough dudes to qualify for DOUBLEACE

Yeah. You already the Aces of Mastodon Battalion, and were awarded the Knight's Cross of Zeon after taking down two full tank companies literally less than half an hour after overthrowing the government of Costa Rica with just four other men*.
That basically makes you a Knight of the Principality of Zeon, civilians have to address you as Sir David Lister in formal situations.

*Admittedly one was an spy with an incredible talent for casual brutality, and who did 90% of the legwork, but still.

Yeah, but we rode a motorcycle and shot cops with a SMG. So we're cooler.

You don't know that. You opted to steal back the Mobile Suit instead of SHOOT THE GODDAMN PRESIDENT OF COSTA RICA RIGHT THERE IN HIS OWN HOME.

... that said, you did get some amazing motorcycle related stunts going on during that motorway chase scene with those cops.

I think at one point you slinked UNDERNEATH a car as it was in mid flip, having lost a tire and faceplanting itself.

    We're terrifying.

Would it not be too egotistical of me to say that I'm DEEPLY pleased with how that came out?

Getting the ribcage right was a pain though, and I know that I didn't get the feet bones right.

Don't expect me (or your techs) to be doing this for EVERY mobile suit you get.

I dunno Bill, I'd imagine that some special prototypes might a certain colour scheme for a reason, and that the R&D boy's might be a bit iffy about you respraying everything.

They'd probably allow an MS Icon though, I was thinking of using >>6501555

Eh. As long as the prototype colour isn't hot pink, it should be fine.

If we can't get a Gouf any time soon, how about letting us pick up a an MS-06G Improved Ground Type Zaku? It fits our MO pretty well. Or even a custom upgrade of or current sit to 06G specs?

You should be getting an upgrade fairly soon, don't worry about it.
