Deep within the Abyss lies the Shadowsea, domain of Dagon. A strange and dark ocean, not witnessed by any creature but aquatic demons... Until recently. Your golems and daygaunts have reached Dagon's domain and currently one of them serves as a conduit for communication between the demon prince and yourself.
"Then perhaps you could educate me. What reason would you have for not wanting to conquer the Material Plane. Somehow I don't believe it's a lack of ambition."
Dagon seems to be amused by the question.
"I already told you. The Abyss or other planes, conquest is conquest. And my home is by far the easiest plane to reach."
You sense he is not completely sincere.

You are Hyperion, god of knowledge, protection and fire. You have spontantenously come into existence a few years ago, apparently born out of faith. Since then, you have gathered a religion of about six or seven thousand. They inhabit thirteen islands of varying size.
The pantheon includes you, Hagran (god of craft and war), Shyla (goddess of fertility and nature), the Twins (deities of life and death), Asmodeus (patron of paladins) and Otto (divine otter, trickster).

Your followers have mastered both magic and technology, merging them into a single art. Elementals are employed for altering the very nature of the world, connecting islands and creating new ones rich in ores. First airships are tested by Ligish's kin. Zhuang's people have honed their blacksmithing skill, providing others with high quality weapons and armor. Great citadels have been constructed on the islands to protect people from the Masters and their servants. Harvest is improving every year, thanks to both Shyla's blessings and new knowledge. It is a golden age of prosperity and development.

    >Ligish and Zhuang are two of the most powerful mages among your people. Basically, Ligish is an elf and Zhuang is a dwarf.

The Masters, or aboleths, as they call themselves, are the former rulers of this world. You drove them out of the area, though they remain in the far south, preparing for a counterattack.
They worship a group of... not exactly gods. Eldritch, incomprehensible entities. You had the misfortune of attracting the attention of one of them, Y'Chak.
Due to his interference, your divine realm has been tainted. The infinite Abyss formed within it, inhabited by foul demons. You currently negotiate with a powerful abyssal being which calls itself Dagon. Politeness is advised as it doesn't seem hostile. It has told you that it can predict the future and its decision to talk to you is based on those visions.

Your realm is the Eternal Library, where all knowledge is stored. Physical representations of known objects and ideas exist here as well. Therefore, the Library's landscape contains many interesting features. The Abyss contains itself in the Library in a confusing, incomprehensible way. You suspect there's no way to remove it, due to the very nature of the Library.

Souls of your followers are either reincarnated or, should they prove worthy, allowed to remain within the Library. The forms which they can choose are as follows:
Daygaunts, winged creatures of radiance and white flame, favorites of Asmodeus in his combat against demons.
Golems, made of glass and filled with divine fire. Those followers can also inhabit similar bodies on the Material Plane.
Librarians, humanoids of white flame, wearing golden armor.

You have also created lindorms, serpentine creatures which grow to travel either air or water easily. They exist on the Material Plane. They view humanity as fascinating and worthy of protecting. They have shown a surprising affinity for magic.

Apart from the Material Plane and the Eternal Library, other planes exist. You have discovered the Elemental Planes, an infinite source of the basic building blocks of the Material Plane and negotiated deals with the beings living there - the elementals. Their sole goal is spreading their own element, which can be harnessed for the benefit of your people.

You also discovered the source of souls and lifeforce. You recently gained unrestricted access to souls. It seems using them to create servants has no consequences, as the supply is infinite.

Some events suggest that there is a plane opposite to that one, one linked with death and decay. A powerful spawn of Dagon drew power from it as well from the Abyss. It was summoned by the aboleths as a weapon against your people, but an expedition of golems and daygaunts reached Dagon's layer and turned the spawn's power source against it. After that, Dagon itself appeared. It is not hostile and let most of your forces out of its domain.

"Oh, I am, even as we speak. For example-"
Wind howls wildly above the surface of the ocean and a bird-like, feral creature appears out of nowhere.
"Dagon! What is the meaning of this?! Your minions wander my domain as if it were your own!"
"Pardon me? You must be mistaken, dear Pazuzu. I would never turn against you. Whoever claims to be my servant is a filthy liar. I believe Pale Night has expressed wishes of conquest regarding your domain."
    "Yeah, right. Consider yourself warned."
The bird-demon disappears as swiftly as it entered this layer.
"That was Pazuzu of Pazunia. You must have noticed him before. He's fairly simple to manipulate. A word of warning, though. Don't mention kobolds in his presence."

Little, scaly pests. One of them managed to trick Pazuzu. Before anyone realized what's going on, he gained power greater than the gods themselves. Fortunately, limited to a single world. Calls himself Ao now, I believe."

    You inquire about his rivals.

"Let me think. You have met Pazuzu already. There's the self-proclaimed Queen of Chaos. She fancies herself the ruler of the Abyss just because she was the first one to discover the Material Plane. Some pay her tribute, some ignore her, some war with her. I am biding my time."
"There is Pale Night. I believe Y'Chak made her into his own image. You will know her when you see her. I advise caution, should you seek confrontation."
"There is Obox-Ob, Prince of Vermin. I do not know much about him, though some rumors are truly fascinating."

    You discover... Fear. Panic.
He's desperately trying to forge an alliance with you.

You search deeper, looking for the reason.

It took him months to create the Black Pearl, which could draw on the power of the whole Abyss. At a crucial moment, his spawn claimed the Pearl for itself and entered the Material Plane, wielding more power than Dagon has ever witnessed.

You effortlessly stopped the spawn on the Material Plane, comprehended its undead nature in an instant, sought out the Black Pearl and turned it against its user in a matter of minutes. Worse, Dagon has no idea how you accomplished this.

He realizes that while the Abyss is infinite, any single demon prince can be utterly annihilated by your forces, should you choose so. You have resources at your disposal that he can only dream of.

He hopes he can prove a worthwhile ally and therefore ensure his survival.

Suddenly, Dagon falls silent. He sensed your presence in his mind.
The black, oily waters of Shadowsea grow even fouler as the demon prince pisses himself in fear.

    Very well.

Now it's time to turn your attention back to your flock.
There are some matters in which you might wish to intervene.
First of all, your people are slowly developing a power structure. On one hand, mages are still highly revered, as they used to be when they were servants of the aboleths. However, your clergy has attained a similar status. Those of your priests that have a talent for magic are the ones with most political power at their disposal. It shall be so.
Another pressing matter is the summoning of the elementals. So far, no mortal has contacted them on their own, they have only entered the Material Plane when they made a contract with you. Some mages, however, wish to change this and summon elementals on terms of their own choosing. What do you wish to do in this matter?

A bird's-eye view is certainly helpful in this endeavour.

There are many islands to the south. Otto has travelled there before, but now you have a more complete assessment of the situation. The nearest archipelago consists of five large islands, dedicated to farming. They seem to provide food for many other islands in the area. Should they convert to your cause, your religion would be quickly spread along with shipments of grain and livestock.

Unfortunately, the aboleths are preparing for war. An island without fortifications is a rare sight. Your airships fly out of range of their bows, fortunately.

The guards are armed with bows and metal weapons, usually spears and axes. They wear heavy leather, though some have been granted chainmail. Their gear is inferior to the works of your people in every way. Additionally, your mages have mastered the art of imbuing weapons with magical properties. The process requires rare and valuable components to be permanent, however.
Defensive fortifications are primitive compared to your own as well. Crude wooden walls and the occasional stone guard tower.

Though the aboleths attempt to isolate your islands from their own, you manage to slowly spread word of your people's accomplishments. The seeds of dissent were sown. In time, the people will rebel. It will take a few years before any organized groups emerge, however.

Meanwhile, an interesting thing occured. A single man has travelled to your main temple and intends to enter the Mindharbor - the gate to your realm. His goal is to navigate the sea in his own boat and enter the Eternal Library on his own terms. How do you react?

Your territory is now a single large landmass. Airships are used for travel and transport. Priests, mages and philosophers lead the communities. Steam power has become widespread and, in conjunction with magic, a powerful tool. Soon, manual labor will be unnecessary.

The paladin order has grown and prospered. Currently, six hundred fully trained knights are awaiting orders.

Lindorms inhabit the mountains, forests, lakes, rivers and shores. Their relations with humans are peaceful and it is not rare for a winged lindorm to serve a paladin as steed. They are considered a symbol of magic.

The aboleths are strangely passive. You fear they might be preparing something deep in their tunnels.

"You would be astounded at the number of things that make me think Dagon. Tell me, where does that title come from?"

"Not quite. Each world has its own, unique gods. And there is a single Abyss for the whole multiverse. I talked with you. I talked with Odin. I spoke to Osiris and to Pelor. I met Zeus and Lathander. I had a chat with Corellon Larethan and a hundred others. And each of you has his own Asmodeus."

"Remember how he screwed the aboleths over when he brought the Abyss into this world? He's always doing things like that. I'm willing to bet Asmodeus the demon-slayer is his next project."

"Well, we'll have to watch out for that."

In the meanwhile, maybe it would be worth our time to seek out these other gods.

On our own, Y'Chak would fuck us up.

But imagine if we had Odin, and Zeus, and all those thousands of Gods on our side, eh?
