It is Six-Thirty in the afternoon. Do you know where your Zaku is?

    Previous threads here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zeonquest

When we last left our intrepid band of heroes, they had just defeated an entire Federation Army division, earned some nice medals, and secured the secret support of the Costa Rican government.

In order to circumvent the two other Divisions sent to stop your entry into Panama, you are going to take the Cost Ricans offer of providing you with ships from the port of Limone, which will take you directly into the city.

But first Mastodon Battalion spends an hour in the capital: San Jose, letting it's engines cool, repairing that which can be repaired, salvaging that which needs to be salvaged.

I'm also going to have my dinner, give me 10-15 mins okay?

No, I had to go pick up my sister from work, which an hour long round trip. But enough about my life.

After meeting with General Merdez and being awarded your medals you are dismissed. You give your dress uniforms back to the Quartermaster and change back into your combats.
You return to the party and manage to snag some leftovers.

The Battalion will rest another hour and half in San Jose. Is there anything in particular you would like to do, or do you want to rest until we get moving again?

Not to your knowledge. In fact you should actually be able to get a decent sleep since your allies have confirmed that all federal forces in the area have retreated back to Panama.

You all find an unused quarters (which is somewhat difficult, a lot of people seem to have had the same idea) in the Prancer and get some shuteye.

Three hours later, you are woken up by your alarm. The sleep has left you feeling somewhat refreshed.
You can hear that the Prancer is once again on the move, after getting dressed you all head outside.
The corridors of the Cruiser are busy with engineers running about frantically. You don't want to disturb them, but something seems to be wrong.
It isn't an attack, an alarm would have been sounded...

It is currently 8:00 at night, if the rotation pattern held then you SHOULD be going out to patrol. You'll need to check the duty roster to see if we're still doing that since we don't expect and attack.

    YOUR ORDERS?

    >Go to check the roster. On the way, ask the people running around what's going on.

On the way to the duty roster you manage to snag a passing Technician: Oliver somebody-or-other and ask him what's.

"Ah! It's the Loki on the prancer! It wont start up again!"
He then manages to shake you off and rush away.

    That's not good.

The Loki gear was your primary Minovsky Particle emitter for this campaign, and although the Gallop class SHOULD be able to emit a small field itself, it's not going to be anywhere near the scale and precision of the Loki.

You rush to the duty roster. You find that third company has been disbanded and it's one remaining squad put into third to replace losses. The support band has been removed, now one Company is on a short range patrol, the other is on reserve.
None of the Dopp pilots are on active duty for the forseeable future, probably because without a wide minovsky field, the Dopps lose their tactical advantages.

    You head to the hangar.

You find your mobile suits easily, you see that Okawaara finished those modifications you asked for...

Strauss comments that he was never one for custom colours schemes, with his command antennae he figures he's enough of a target already.

    MOBILE SUITS CURRENTLY IN SQUAD
1 MS-06J ZAKU II (Ground Warfare Model) Armed with 1x 120mm Zaku Machine Gun (100 shell drum, 4 reloads carried on hips) 2x 3-Tube Missile Launchers, leg mounted. 1x Heat Hawk
    1 MS-06F Zaku II armed with 240mm Bazooka (4 Shots + 2 Reloads) 2x Heat Hawks.
MS-06S Zaku II (Command Type) 120mm MG (2 Reloads) 2 Cracker Grenades, 1 Heat Hawk.

You exit the front of the Prancer and quickly disembark whilst it's moving. You nimbly dodge out of the way of "Zaku Tank" as you've decided to call it.
It's carrying what looks like more salvage and parts in it's arms, and with a grace that almost looks practiced it trundles in front of the loading ramp before casually reversing back into the Prancers MS bay.

Yeah, that's what box art for old Gundam models used to look like.

You are put onto a close distance patrol around the Prancer. The sun is beginning to set, but if General Merdez' was true to his word then you might get lucky and not be attacked at all tonight.
Hopefully you'll be able to get the Loki up and running by the time you reach Puerto Limon, you're not sure you like the idea of having to cross a big stretch of water without proper Minovsky coverage or air support.
With the reduced minovsky density, strong radio signals are able to get through, though the quality sucks.

Strauss takes advantage of the improved communications horn on his unit to talk to you whilst you patrol.

You reach the Port of Limon just as night is beginning to set in at 9.
What was once a thriving port town has been largely devestated the Colony Drop.
The force of it impacting as well as the shockwaves it left as it entered the earths atmosphere caused massive storms and tsunami across the entire planet.
Everywhere you see there are signs of devestation, collapsed houses, water damage, snapped trees, boats sticking out of second floors of houses.
Sometimes you can see people huddled around burning steel drums wrapped in grey blankets.
They barely bother to look at you as you stomp past in you 18 meter tall war machine.

After a sobering walk around the town outskirts you reach the shoreline and meet up with your Costa Rican Military contact.

The plan is this. The Prancer is supposed to cross the body of water unassisted, which it should be able to do with it's hovercraft systems.

The Mobile Suits and Armour assets will be loaded onto a small flotilla of medium sized Cargo Carriers and will travel alongside.
The Zaku's will walk onto the ships and be transported kneeling, worse comes to worse, they will be able to fire on any incoming enemy that discovers us.
The entire operation is to be under strict radio silence, with Zero minovsky percentage for maximum stealth.

Unless we can get the Loki working, in which case the sole remaining Dopp wing will launch and 1st company will move ahead and secure the beach head.
If the Loki can't be restarted in time, then the entire Battalion will make the landing at the same time, hoping that they wont be spotted.

By taking the coastal route, it's hoped that we will circumvent the Federal Divisions in Santiago and Santa Fe, and land just west of Colon.

It should take about 2 hours.

Uh. Well, they've never been comprehensively tested. They SHOULD be water-tight since that was how they test MS to see if their safe for space combat.

But the Thrusters are going to struggle to lift you due to all of the extra water weight, and there's probably a non to deep limit to how low you can go before water pressure pops the sealant.
On the plus side, AMBAC maneouvers should work as advertised, and the thruster will be able to work for longer due to being water cooled.

    I still wouldn't advise it.

You check and doublecheck all of your weapons and your mobile suit status. Your passive sensors can pick up the Radar signals from the incoming federation ships.
So far you can detect about 4 signals, but with the radio silence still enforced you can't be sure what everyone else is seeing.

Five minutes later the darkness is punctuated by the early launching of flares. You look up to see it's a Luggun that has launched them, in almost immediate reply, one of the Gunboats fires a SAM at the EWAC plane.

Over the radio "ATTACK, ALL UNITS ATTACK!" as Captain Fontaine officially breaks radio silence. You sweep the tarp away and stand up on the boat.
There a currently 5 small frigates, looking a little worse for wear but still functional illuminated by the starburst flares.
They are some distance away, but not out of range of your weapons. You're leg missile are obscured by the sides of the boat, you may have to take a precarious position of some kind to launch them.

You take careful aim for a few seconds, trying to gauge distance and drop and then fire off a good burst from your MG.
Your shots go low and mostly miss. One 120mm shell manages to clip the target and you see fragments of twisted metal fly into the air.
The boat tilts with the recoil of your weapon and the crewmen run for cover as your spent shell casings fall onto the deck.

You notice the minovsky particle density begin to rise as the Prancer turns on it's meagre emitter. It isn't enough to properly stop radio signals, but radar should be retarded pretty badly.

The rest of the Battalion follows suit and starts firing at the ships. Which have now begun to fire back.

You keep firing at the targets, and the close combined fire of nearly two full companies light up the night.

One Frigate takes pair of Bazooka hits to the command tower and begins to turn away still firing.
You see on of the transports take a direct hit and begin sinking. Like a phoenix the Zaku it was carrying leaps out towards the Prancer, it looks like for a second that it wont make it, and then it twists around and fires it's Magella Cannon in the opposite direction.
The recoil just manages to carry it on top of the Cruiser.

Another Frigate has burst into flames from multiple hits, you can see lifeboats scrambling from it.

Suddenly, you hear over the radio Zolomon howl "Yahoo" as he leaps from his ship. Which you see he has somehow directed towards the Frigates.
His Zaku, still shrouded it it's tarp like a long black cloak, leaps upwards, a pair of Heat Hawks in each hand, glowing orange with heat.

In the middle of his jump, he hurls both the Hawks at the Frigate. Both fly in a curved arc, catching the command tower.
He lands on the fore of the ship shortly and retrieves them. A few more brutal slashes and the excessive heat and blunt force trauma causes the frigates ammunition to explode and it goes up in a giant flaming ball. From the blast, flies Zolomon, his cloak now on fire, he discards it mid-jump and lands heavily back on the transport.
It nearly capsizes, but somehow manages to stay afloat.

"Now how hard was that?" He asks, shortly before a low caliber shell pings off his right shoulder causing him to nearly stumble forward.

    KILLS
    ZOLOMON: 1 Frigate.

are we in range to jump onto the enemy ships?
We need a way to draw fire away from our transports before we're sent to the bottom.

Also suggest having the bazookas aim at the waterline of the enemy ships to start them sinking. Hopefully the crew having to abandon ship will prevent them from returning fire.

Furthermore, concentrate fire as a squad. Get our whole squad firing at one ship until it's no longer fighting, then move on.

Three enemy vessels are out of the the fight, the other two are trying to move behind the burning ship in an attempt to use it as cover.

You begin to concentrate fire one one ship before it can reach cover, the others begin to follow suit. Bazooka rockets and 120mm shells slam into the rear of the vessel and it stops moving.
Shortly afterwards they start to launch white flares and wave white flags in surrender.

You look for the last Frigate but cant see it.

The question of the missing frigate is answered by your remaining Lugguns. It's in full retreat, and the transports would have to change course to intercept.

After clearing the decks and resecuring your Zaku, Captain Fontaine makes a boradcast to the Battalion.

We don't have the time to risk landing at Colon, we're going to HAVE to land early at Pelmas Bellas. Also, the Prancer can't keep itself afloat and carry an extra Zaku on it's roof. flank speed for pelmas, re-load all spent magazines, see if we can gather our whole squad on one transport (I don't know how many MS's are on each transport.)

Also, sink the surrendered feddy ships. This is total war, any survivors we allow to live will just be thrown back at us eventually. I can't imagine why a nation that will drop a colony on civilians would have any problems sinking surrendered ships.

At 9:50 you make an amphibious landing. This is the most dangerous part of the operation, the Zaku's can simply jump out of their transports.
However, the Mechanized Infantry and AA Tanks will have to be loaded off, which will take roughly half and hour.
You have to protect the Transports for that distance of time to protect them.

You expect Federal air forces within 20 minutes, possibly earlier.

You reach the shoreline and leap out of your transport. Glad to be rid of such dangerous cargo the ship beats a hasty retreat back to Costa Rica.
You meet up with Strauss and Zolomon.

The mobile suit forces link up into their squads, and these squads move in advanced scouting positions.

Finding an Ambush Spot isn't hard, the entire town has been devastated. Your thermal imaging picks up what looks like a small piece of fallen colony about two kilometers south of the town.

It's still cooling, months after it dropped.

From this distance, the kinetic force would have sufficent to create blastwave equal to that of a 14 kiloton nuclear device.
The buildings are nothing but shattered ruins, and the tidal forces have shredded the meagre dockland area.

    This isn't a town, it's a graveyard.

Fifteen minutes after arriving in Pelmas Bellas, your shortrange radio picks up contacts coming your way. Three large aircraft with ten smaller craft as escorts.

You open fire on the advancing aircraft.

Your shots streak the night sky and manage to catch a couple of Fly Manta's with your shots. The formation scatters in response.

You try to keep mobile as the Fighters start to drop low to get a better shot at you. You are currently outside the Prancers optimal Minovsky range, and the particle density is still quite low, you aren't sure if it will be enough to effect guided munitions...

The question is rendered moot when the Fly Manta's begin peppering the are with unguided rockets.
They're still not of a high enough yield to kill you in one hit... but a full salvo might.

Using the ruined buildings for cover the three of you keep a loose formation as you shoot back at the air forces. You can see streaks of gunfire from other squads as they too become engaged by enemy air forces.

There's not much to tell. You and your parents used to live on Side 6, and your parents supported the Anti-Federal, Pro-Self Governance revoulution that took place there in 0077.
Zeon threw in their support with the revoulutionaries, even going so far as to send Mobile Suit teams to help back them up.
In the ensueing coup, Side 6 became a neutral self controlled colony cluster, you family however lost their home in the fighting.

    ANYWAY.

Sporadic fire from your squad takes out another four fighter-bombers. At which point they retreat back towards their lines.
You spot the Depp Rogs lining up for a bombing run on the bay, and the three of you chase after them in an effort to get a shot in. You leapfrog over houses using your jets, firing in bursts at the Bombers, but due to your frantic action most of your shots go wide.

Strauss get's a lucky hit in and a Depp Rog begins to spout flames and what appears to be smoke (you can only see through your IR spectrum at the moment)
The Bomber turns and makes in the direction of the coast in an attempt to disengage from you.

You continue to fire at the two bombers.
One begins to drop it's bombs, but you able to find stable purchase on a two story building and get a good accurate burst at the other Depp Rogg.
Your shots ring true and the plane explodes in mid air somewhat spectacularly.
Suddenly in mid bombing run, the last Bomber explodes, your able to see a small fast moving object flew through the explosion miraculously unscathed.

    A lone Dopp.

The Fly Manta's may be in full retreat, or they may be regouping for another attack.

Of the returning Mobile Suits, most if not all seem to have returned.

You see a Zaku Tank supported by a couple of APC's and a Jeep head out along the road towards the town. Presumeably the salvage that lost Zaku.

"... first of all the bad news. By landing here, we have missed our drop point, and will be unable to reach Panama city as planned. Also, the Orbital Assault by 2nd and 3rd Divisions will begin in less than 1 hour. We just have to survive until then... Unofrtunately, we expect enemy ground forces from the Federal Division at Santa Fe to reach us 45 minutes from now at most."

The downside to this plan, is that there's a chance that we might get caught before we reach it. It's totally possible if they have 10 to 1 odds, and if you get sideswiped by a complete Division? That's 270 tanks.
    You have 18 Mobile suits.

Yes. Absolutely, he features in pretty much all of the next few storylines. (Depending on your choices that is.)

Ah. The Sieg Zeon! Speech, probably the most famous speech in Gundam. But not I feel, superior or more important to the history of the war than Revil's "Zeon is Exhausted" speech (Look it up on Wikiquote, shit is awesome.)

Oh also, there are ways to prevent that speech.

With the shit we've pulled, I won't be suprised if the Feddies don't surrender immediately to the real invasion force.

We've pretty much bent the Feddies over the table so far.

Just as long as 08th MS team doesn't come up with their huge plot armour, or we'll need SOMEONE WHO CAN REALLY PILOT A MOBILE SUIT

Then it seems that we're going to need to turn whatever shithole little town we hide in into fucking Stalingrad. With Zakus.

We'll need a mathfag to calclate the optimum usage of the Loki based on what we have left; i/e firing it up in pulses and letting residual particles handle things. Assume worst case that we have to hold out for over half an hour, or more, in the event that the Drop operation is delayed.

Now, Assuming we make it to Escobal with a few minutes to spare, we should use all available Zakus to set up weapon caches at several points in the town - If every MS is running back to the Prancer to resupply, they'll be easy targets. Ammo Drums, Spare Bazookas, Magella cannons, greandes, Heat Hawks, anything that can be handled by the Zaku's hands.

Hell, if we're pushing the time limit, we can probably even ask that Zaku Tank to make resupply runs with pallets of ammo drums/rockets/grenades/whatever.

Two Divsions is a lot of tanks. We're going to need combat resupplying at some point, and if we've sorted out the logistics beforehand, it stops being such a nightmare.

Probably not enough time. Overturning blasted tanks during lulls in the combat will make for decent barricades, though, and we can probably kick out some buildings to make improptu foxholes.

If we need AA support, we could probably rig up the Zaku tank with a pair of Magella cannons and recoil braces, but that is a bit of a slapdash option.

We should probably recommend that Zolomon grabs a Magella cannon instead of the Bazooka - it carries more ammo and is essentailly just as good vs. Tanks, aircraft, and anything, really.

If you can find any decently tall buildings still standing one thing you can try is rigging the bottom floor on 1 side with spare explosives. Dropping it on enemy units as they pass or using it to seperate pockets of tanks from each other could cause some serious chaos.

There's also a good chance that the siblings could instead distract themselves with political squabbling. Worst case scenario, we end up with multiple Zeonic Factions led by Gihren, Kycillia and Garma + Dozle, with a united Federation.
SERIOUSLY Worst Case: Char get's board of using fake names and swings in with his own vision of Zeon, Kycillia loses the entire newtype corps, and Char makes a deal with the feds.

But that's so unlikely I hadn't even planned for it to happen.

True enough, but there's still a good chance that the siblings may then start to disagree with some of Gihren's more hardline policies which may eventually bring things to a head when the Colony Laser is used.

If the other sibling are still around, that might result in a second Zeonic faction as well. Ultimately, I'm just going to play it by ear.

    >Also, can't we call space fleet and ask for reinforcements? An ETA on the real invasion?

What reinforcements? YOU'RE IT. Everything is either dropping about an hour (no signs of delays thus far) has ALREADY dropped, or is busy blockading Luna II.

Splitting Ghiren off into a rogue faction of his own might be a good thing - politically, at least. Zeon can just shove all the blame for the atrocity-level stuff off onto him.

As for our immediate situation, i'll advocate again the Stalingrad route. Guerilla stuff won't work, as we have The Prancer to worry about. We need to dig in in cover, have good supply lines, and make the Feddies suffer twenty losses for each one of us they bring down.

Or, at the very least, stall them without dying until the Drop Operation hits the fan.

    Get to the settlement.

Mine every approach, sandbag AT positions, hull down our tanks, put artillery around the snail in reinforced positions, tank traps on the main roads, clear buildings quick to make kill zones and get anti-tank teams with clear firing lanes. Get the refugees in basements and underground if you can, good stable areas. We don't want any war crimes on our hands we can't blame Gihren for.

Zakus should hide out under tarps, in trees, behind hills, wherever in the outskirts and do skirmish and ambush attacks on their picket and lead units.

Escobal isn't a city. It's a town. It's current population is 1,995, and then there's the inevitable loss of life from the Colony Drop. The Prancer is going to be bigger than basically all of the buildings there.

Hell, even the Zakus are gong to be hard-pressed to find decent cover.

Garma's death is what sent Degwin into depression and a backseat, letting Gihren take control. If Gihren doesn't get this oppurtunity, Degwin keeps a firm hand on Zeon's reins and might be able to correct the course of the war.
