You grab an ale from the bar-tender and tell your compatriots that you will be back. Thoughts swirl in your mind about what it might mean to take on the responsibility for the whole town's well being. It takes only a half hour to walk out to the unmarked grave, take out the necklace and bury it a foot or so down.
You whisper your apologies into the wind and sit there for a few minutes in contemplation, before heading back. You didn't know her very well, but you know her life was hard, she once saved your life, and she did not deserve to die like that.
It is uneventful, but at least lets you feel some sort of closure. |
