You relay the plan to Mauser who decides to bring the Medea in close to you so that you can communicate on laser comm once you enter the Minovsky field.

He just manages to get into position when your radio up and dies (as do about 50% of you instruments, evidently this helicopers internal components weren't fully shielded against minovsky particle effects.) The laser comm still works though, and MAuser reports that the Medea appears to be working fine, evidently it has better protection.

As you get closer, you begin to see flying bullets and explosions.
Below you, on the road you were driving down just over an hour ago are several companies of Type 61 tanks. You fly over them, they don't attempt to signal you as you pass overhead.

As you get closer, you're able to finally get a clearer view of the battlefield.

It looks like the Federation have decided to mount a major attack on the battalion. You can see what must be at least four full companies of tanks supported by mixed air forces and few squadrons of Fin-Fans in battle with Mastodon Battalion.
There are the remains of tanks and airplanes everywhere.
You can still see a couple of dopps flitting about, making best use of their superior panoramic view design, but they're vastly outnmumbered and they're relying on covering fire from the AA Magella's and squads of zaku's just to stay alive.

You can see a couple of destroyed Zaku's from where you are, but you can see plenty more up and attack, making best use of their jump jets and their heavy weaponry.

It's hard to tell, the situation is pretty chaotic. There’s smoke and wrecks everywhere. It looks they tried to attack Mastodon Battalion on an open plain.

The open terrain would give the federation the best chance to bring their numbers to bear, however a straight up and down fight is what the Zaku's were built for, and it looks like that took the federation by surprised.

The tank squadrons are still having trouble communicating with each other, and they can't seem to keep formation. This is making it easier for Zaku squads to take them out one by one.

There ARE a whole load of tanks though. All of their burning wrecks are also now providing much needed cover for the mechanized infantry forces, which must have taken heavy casualties in the opening exchanges.

You can see that those tanks you say moving up will have to cross a bridge over a river. It appears to be the only way across for the federation tanks.
Apparently they haven't been able to get watercraft to ferry them across or build a bridge for them... aren't local allies wonderful?

You then spot a fully functional Big Tray, hurling heavy battleship grade shells at the Zeonic forces. It looks like it's trying to take out the Prancer, which is nimbly sidestepping out of the way.

I guess Fontaines captain’s hat isn't just for show.

The chopper is completely unarmed, all it has are chaff and flare dispensors. Which may not even work currently.

The Medea is unarmed as well... well aside from itself.

Mauser manages to get a laser comm off at you detailing a risky plan.
He's proprosing having Zolomon doing a LANO drop with his Zaku onto the bridge, cutting off the current forces from reinforcements. He then proposing ramming the Medea directly into the bridge of the Big Tray... well, not before he bails out at the last minute.

This all depends on the situation around the Big Tray. If it is will defended by support or not. Tanks and helicopters and shit, or by itself.

Dropping Zolomon in the suit onto the bridge is a good plan if it is fully loaded with weaponry. He can attempt to hold it or destroy it if needed. Even if it is unarmed, he might be able to pick weaponry from the destroyed Zakus.

Mauser ramming the ship into the Big Tray is dangerous. If it hits, it will most definitely fuck that shit up. Of course, it is extremely risky. If it gets blown out of the sky, then the Tray is still kicking around. And even if it does, Mauser will be, relatively, a sitting duck when he parachutes out. If he wants to do it, he should do it.

Alternate plans? Drop Zolomon in his suit directly onto the tray. That too may be a suicide plan, if there are massed enemy forces around it. And it still leaves the bridge undefended.

In any case you okay the plan and you and Mauser part ways. You swoop in low, trying to hook your laser transmitter up with the Prancer.
You see the Zaku I flip out of the back of the Medea the wrong way up, Zolomon appears to flail wildly for a few seconds, but actually you recognize it as AMBAC routines and he rights himself and hits his thrusters in time to land safely.
The Medea meanwhile swoop over the Big Tray before sharply diving down towards it's bridge.
The land battleship literally never sees it coming and there is a massive explosion as a the medea and it's full fuel tank explode.
The Big Tray stops firing.

You give up on trying to get a laser comm, and Incognito simply starts flashing Zeonic Pass Codes via a signal light at the Prancers general direction in the hopes that they'll notice.

It's round about this point that enemy forces start firing on you, luckily their accuracy sucks.
You still need to start jinking though.

Behind you, secondary ammo explosions cause the Big Tray to explode for good.

You can't see Zolomon as your currently trying to survive attacks from Federation air power. You get low and start jinking between a squad of Zaku's, luckily none of them fire at you.

They do however start firing at your persuers.

After a good minute of flashing the Prancer... which sounds like a highly suspect video... you eventually get a return signal allowing you to land on the cruiser helipad.

You quickly land on Prancer, which can now afford to be stationary since you took out that Big Tray. The wounded, Incognito, Gordon and Erich are ushered inside.
"Where are our Mobile Suits?" Strauss shouts over the sound of your spooling down helicopter.
You see the soldier he's talking to point, and as you get out Strauss signals you to follow him.

You run to the side of the helipad and descend down a set of ladders rungs to the flank lashing points. You see your Zaku's attatched to the side, presumeably as ablative armour.

Both of you quickly open up your cockpits and boot up the Mobile Suits.

If we can dual wield the machine guns, let's do it. If not, our regular set up.

Once we're out, get as much cover as possible and start firing on whichever enemy forces are closest to us. Then move forward to backup Zolo.

Also, inform the command here that Zolomon is holding the bridge, and to reinforce him if possible until we get there.

Check armament and get stuck in. Try to aim for the enemy's HQ units, throw crackers if we've got them.

You signal for the Prancer to open up so you can quickly arm yourself. The Prancer opens up the front doors and you reach in a grab a pair of 120mm Machine Guns and a pair of reloads for each - fuck Cracker Grenades.

Strauss does the same and comes out with a pair of Bazooka's.

The pair of you immediately start running towards the bridge. On the way you encounter a unit of tanks bearing down on your position. Strauss fires a pair of shots from his Bazooka's at the incoming armour, the twin explosions send several tanks into the air, and a second salvo finishes them off.

You continue running until you reach an area where several tanks have been reduced to burning wrecks. From beyond the smoke a pair of tank shells streak out, catching you in the right shoulder. The armour cracks, but holds and your return fire with your twin machine guns.
You pick up the sound of close explosions through the smoke and Strauss leaps over the wrecks to flank them.
There’s the sound of another bazooka shell being fired and that's another few tanks dealt with.

You're close enough then to clearly make out Zolomon at the bridge.
His Zaku appears non the worse for wear, and he's firing his Machine Gun heavily at over flying planes as he takes cover behind a tank that he's propped upright.

You meet up with him and start firing at the planes. Your able to take out about three before they start to retreat.
You see a pair of Dopps swoop past to finish them off.

You have met up with Zolomon successfully, his armour's taken a few good dents, but it seems to be fully working.
He is standing in front of the bridge, with is large metal affair across the river.
It's not so big that you couldn't take it down if you needed to.

I should point out that this appears to be the only bridge across the river. Now your mobile suits and the prancer can cross the river anywhere, but you mechanized infantry wont be able to, and will either have to find an alternate way across, or create a pontoon bridge. Either will put you behind schedule.

Reload. Check status of our suits and weapons. Try and get a status update from our HQ.

If that big group of tanks is still around, we might want to take it out.

Well then let's keep it standing, but block it with a barricade of destroyed tanks or boulders or whatever we can get.

Then take out the tanks. Fire with the bazookas and our leg rockets into a grid like attack, trying not to overlap and waste our ammo.

If that's effective, take out remaining tanks with MG fire and axes.

After everybody has reloaded, you start to build up a barricade using the remains of several tanks and planes on your side of the bridge.

You finish it just in time as the Tanks reach the side of the bridge and begin shelling at you.

You return fire.

Your makeship barricade holds up for the first few exchanges, but you've got something along the lines of twenty to thirty tanks firing at it. It wont hold up long.

Your firing takes out about a third of them, but once the barricade goes down even you won't be able to stand up to those kind of numbers.

It's march, Project V wont be started until April, we are the literally the first and only Zeon forces in america right now. We have a mixture of Zaku II's in F,J and S type variants, and the odd Zaku I. We also have a rapidly dwindling supply of Dopps, Magellas outfitted for AA and Mechanized Infantry. Operation command is the Prancer, a MSV of the Gallop which carries the Loki Minovsky Field Emissions Unit, a massive Minovsky emitter.

You keep firing everything you have at the targets on the bank. There's smoke and flames behind you, you can't see much except flashes of gunfire.

Strauss ducks behind the rapidly dwindling cover as Zolomon takes his heat axe from Strauss' Zaku.

"HEY! YOU KNOW WHAT I JUST REMEMBERED!?" Shouts Wolfgang over the speakers

"WHAT?" Zolomon replies

"THESE THINGS CAN ONLY ELEVATE THEIR MAIN GUNS 45 DEGREES UP."

There is a brief pause as this sinks in.

Then as one you all turn around and leap upwards over the river.

at the peak of your fire off all six of your leg rockets at the tanks. They struggle to elevate to catch you, but they can't do so in time, explosions rock their line and you and Strauss begin to fire at full auto as you get close.

More tanks explode, perforated by 120mm shells or blow up outright, and then Zolomon lands in the middle of them. Heat Hawks first.

He slashes left and right taking out three more tanks in his furious attack. The tanks struggle to turn their guns towards or escape from this rampaging giant of destruction in their midst.
At which point you and Strauss hit the other shore.
You land feet first onto a tank, warping it's barrels, you then finish it off with a quick burst from your MG's. You resuming firing at the tanks and in seconds it's all over.

Straus then launches a blue flare, signaling that you've taken the bridge.

I should point out that the EXACT elevation number I'm pulling out of my ass, but I *do* know for certain that the Type-61 had elevation issues, as it made it difficult for them to get clean hit's on Mobile Suits.
They could only reliably hit the legs, which Zeon specifically armoured heavily due to that very fact.

So what's next?

After you fire the flare, you set up a second barricade on this side of the river. It is substantially a larger since you have a lot more scrap metal to play with.

Your battered Zaku's protest at the extra work on top of the minor combat damage you've taken.

After ten minutes, it become obvious that no more reinforcements are due any time soon, and you haven't seen any planes flying overhead lately.

Another five minutes lately you are met up with another squad of Zaku's. One of them's missing an arm, and they're all pretty dented, but otherwise they seem okay as well.

You recognize them as those unlucky bastards from 2nd Company.

"Hey. Good to see you all made it out okay. After they noticed the flare, the federation forces all surrendered or retreated. The Prancers canabalising tanks for spare parts as we speak.

They were pretty much broken when Mauser took out the Big Tray. We just picked him up, and were going to have a big party for him in the mess hall when we get to San Jose... wait. Holy fuck did you kill ALL of these?"

You explain that you did indeed.

"Oh fucking wow. Yeah, another two companies would have kicked our shit all over the place... wow, I guess Mausers going to have learn to share the glory..."

The team releives you and sends you back to Prancer. But as you go he adds one last thing.

"Hey, you know what I just realised? You guys all arrived late, saved the day, and are now going to hog all the glory... and were in AMERICA. How ironic is that?!"

You make your way back through the cratered ruins of various tanks and the occaisional Zaku. You get to the Prancer, it's still moving, but much slower to allow what appears to be a Zaku with a tank's lower half to haul various salvage back aboard.
The doors are permanently open and you can see sparks coming from inside.
You are directed to attatch the Zaku's to the side. A technician will move them to inside for repairs when they get a free chance.

You also take this oppourtunity to ask Okawara about a custom paint job. He say's he'll see if he can fit it in.

When you get to the mess hall, a party is already in full swing. Most of the party goers are jubliant, if a little weary. You can see a fair few people asleep on couches.
You spot Mauser smoking a ciggarette and taking pats on the back.

You take a fair few congratulations yourself, and then help yourself to food and (non-alcoholic) drink.

Mauser greets Zolomon like an old friend.

"Heeeeey, looks who's miraculously not dead!" He jovially greets your wingman.

The two start talking about the battle. Apparently after parachuting in, he blithely walked back through the wrecks until he got picked up by a friendly APC.

Captain Fontaine greets you.

"If you three could be in briefing room 3 when we get to San Jose? Were going to be meeting with General Merdez who's taken effective control of the country along with General Sandiago. Also, I'm going to take the downtime to start handing out fruit salad like it was christmas, so get some dress uniforms from the Quartermaster. He should have everyones in stores."

First impression of he/she?

The captain has brought several of you in, partially because of your experience in San Jose (you spot Incognito looking completely unobtrusive in the corner) but also to impress upon General Merdez that you are big shit.

The meeting starts with about 10 minutes of pleasantries as the General tries to wrangle out assurances that you aren't going to flatten the city anyway, which Fontaine effectively gives.

Eventually, the General explains the current military situation to you.

What he proposes then is a risky plan, to transport the ENTIRE battalion by boat from the port of Limon directly into Panama City, since the Prancer is capable of travelling across seawater with it's hover systems.

In return, Costa Rica is to be afforded neutrality in the war. Captain Fontaine accepts, as long the General agrees to allow the Battalion to retreat through the country back into Mexico if needs be. He quibbles, but ultimately accepts.
