Also, it's not just time in service. No one outside of the First Company can be awarded a Crux. Any captains or other officers who have one had to have earned it before they were promoted.

tl;dr version: You survived your drop pod being shot off course, you being knocked out of said pod and surviving the crash better than those in the pod. You hooked up with one squad mate and your Chapter Master (Dreadnought Iratus), busted into the heretic's base, ripped shit up, took out Orbital Defense Lasers to allow the Maelstrom (the battle barge you serve from) to drop reinforcements unhindered, retaking the base and driving back the Orks.

Then, you were ordered to lead a small scout team to check up on the Orks. You found a Stompa being built, got discovered, took a hit from a Shokk Attack Gun (Nightmare Fuel For Thought: A snotling chewed it's way out of your abdomen and through your soft armour near your waistline.), then charged up behind Iratus. You got up to the Mek, killed him and punctured his SAG, kicked him into the supports of a tower before it divided by zero everything within a small orb radius, taking out one of the towers. Iratus charged up and ripped the other towers apart. Orks rallied, the Stompa went into Death Star II mode (skeletal robot, fully functional), and blew up the squads of guardsmen you had for support. The scout you sent back (Emi) to notify Saevio of the stompa survived (Your vox wasn't able to get a signal out of the valley).
