Talking cats make good DMPCs, they aren't (usually) powerful, aren't expected to contribute much or even open doors, but can say " I wouldn't do that shit if I was you."

The Swede ran into the alley, panting, his hat lost somewhere and a shock of sweaty blond hair stood erect in its place. He had heard that Negroes in this part of town would kill a white man for sport. His shins banged against a discarded bin and he toppled to the pavement. At his backside was the awful hissing sound of claws dragging across the ground. He cast about, and his eyes locked on the form half-concealed within a corona of dark light that somehow illuminated nothing but his own figure.

A long and furred snout emerged from the nimbus and glared at him with baleful and awful knowing eyes. The Swede gasped and retched, trying to scream but unable to as the horrible presence of the dog enveloped him.
