Your drop pod is hit on its way down. You're torn out of the pod as it screams its way towards the landing zone. Since you are a holy angel of Imperial wrath armored in mighty ceramite tempered in the fires of war, you land in a soft clearing or lake relatively intact. At this point, you assess whatever damage or injuries you've sustained and decide your next course of action.

The planet you're on is called Vanguard by the locals, as it is a fortress world at the edge of the Callouth system. It is a key hive world as well, supplying 15% of the PDF for the surrounding worlds. If this world falls, it will be a devastating blow to the defense of other worlds.

You move with purpose, ensuring your wargear is secured and move with sweeping motions towards the hill. It takes some time to safely secure the path leading towards it, but you manage to get up the hill at a respectable pace, for a tactical advance. Looking down, you see the ruins of the pod you rode in, the fractured hulk shattered and broken. >Check the condition of our Brothers

You pick through the bodies, finding no survivors of your squad until you reach the moving panels on the Drop Pod. Slinging your bolter, you assist a trapped brother and wrench the panel free. It's another Tactical Marine.
The other blip is another story. You look beneath the fallen engine of the pod to find your Squad Sergeant. The engine must have fired as it collapsed, as he is missing the lower half of his body, and only black scorch marks remain.

"So... Brothers... Are you all... *cough* that remain?"

You nod your head as the other marine takes his place beside you. You kneel to aid your Sergeant, but he waves his hand to dismiss you.

"No, *cough* Brother. Let the Emperor claim me when ... He wishes to."

He pushes himself to his side, pulling from the dirt his Chainsword.

"This isn't... Per Codex Astartes... But I grant you... the rank of Sergeant, Brother." He offers the Chainsword to you, hilt first.

You take the blade from him as he relaxes against the ground.

    "This world... Is calm."

With those words, you see the small blip of your Sergeant's insignia flicker out of sight from your HUD. He is now with the Emperor.

Macgyver up a trap by pulling the pins from a few grenades then placing them under the dead bodies so they hold down the lever. If someone moves a body, BOOM!

Oh, and harvest their geneseed first. That's a must.

Also, most orks cannot read Gothic, so write the words BOOBY TRAP on any rigged bodies, so other marines/PDF won't get themselves killed, but orks still will.

"Vox Caster Operational, Sir. My Auspex registers us 1700 meters from the determined drop point."

"Brother, take up the Heavy Bolter and radio our fellow Astartes. Let them know we're alive."

A tap against his ear piece is all it takes for the communication to be sent. He drops his bolter to heft the pack onto his body. You assist him and strap him in place, lifting the bolter for him.

Combi-weapons are a normal bolter with the ability to use a special weapons fire mode once. So a combi-melta can act as a melta gun once. You can have combi-melta, plasma, and flamer. A storm bolter is a larger bolt pistol that fires two shots instead of the pistols one.

    >Rin is now a Cultist. Congratulations.

    >Move at current pace, alert Imperial Line to our approach

Your squad mate notifies the PDF of your coming advance. He nods to you as he confirms that they received the communication. You start moving towards the north west, at your slow pace, sticking to what little cover you find in the lush green fields that surround you. You would swear it was a paradise world, had your briefing not told you otherwise.

You have no hostile contact, for now. However, 200m towards your destination, you hear an ear shattering whine. It's another drop pod! Diving for cover, the pod impacts only meters from where you both stood, throwing shrapnel everywhere. The pod is utterly destroyed from the looks of the impact. It must have take a hit, as yours did. You move to check if there are survivors, assuming them to have perished in the crash.

You could not be more wrong.

From the wreckage, a mighty dreadnought claws its way out.

    "I HAVE AWOKEN."

The dreadnought scans the area and spots you, moving with purposeful speed as it closes the short distance.

"WHERE ARE THE FOES, BROTHER. HAVE I ARRIVED TOO LATE?"

"No, noble Dreadnought. Merely, we were knocked off course. We're moving to the nearest Imperial Line to regroup." You explain.

"LEAD, BROTHER, SO THAT I MAY CONTINUE TO SERVE."

You quickly chuck a frag grenade towards the lines as you move with your Chainsword drawn, sprinting full tilt for the gap leading into the trench. You find a small comms bunker a short ways into the tunnel. The traitors sealed their exit. You cannot pursue them. Inside is a standard IG Issue Vox Caster. You're able to radio to your fellow Astartes, telling them about what transpired. You're late to the party, as it would seem, they've already begun to attempt a resistance. They are being flanked on all sides by Orks and Traitor Guard, being dumped right into the thick of it. Your Battle Barge has moved to a safe distance, away from the orbital lasers, rendering support impossible.

You are the last remaining Space Marine to support your brothers, your misplaced drop probably being what saved you. In a rage, you slam the vox against the ground, breaking it. You step back to the trench.

    >High Five/Congratulations to Dreadnought

    "Quite impressive, Brother Dreadnought."

    "MY NAME, IS IRATUS."

You acknowledge his name and add to your HUD:
    >IRATUS: DREADNOUGHT

This outpost has a small vehicle hangar. There are a few Chimeras, and a Sentinel. There's also a Valkyrie Gunship.

Once we have arrived at a suitable choice of vehicle, take a moment to decide what part of the battle would benefit the most from a surprise flanking attack by two heavy units and a royally pissed off Space Marine.

The flamers can be rigged into crude incendiary bombs to be dropped out of the Valkryie, if we desire. Otherwise, load up what's all available (and Iratus) and head out. Move deeper into territory that the Orks haven't claimed yet. The taint of Chaos will be stronger there, and we must discover what has turned the once-loyal Guard to traitors.

I'll third the motion to pick up the meltagun- preferably by ditching the combi-melta. One bolter isn't much against overwhelming ranged firepower of heretic guard units, and Itarus can chew through them quickly anyways. There will likely be more heavy units on the field then Iratus can handle alone, however, and a Space Marine's best chance against overwhelming odds seems to be up close, in blender mode.

    >Load up Brother Itarus and make an extremely dynamic entry from the enemies rear.

You load up some weapons into the Valkyrie, carefully re-modeling the cockpit seat to fit your bulk. The servitors lock Iratus into place on the Cargo Lines.

You lift off, with relative ease. Streaking towards the signals of your fellow Astartes, rushing to aid them with utmost haste. In a low sweep, you swing the ship around the Traitor Guard lines, deep enough to let Iratus bathe them in promethium before releasing the cargo lines, sending him hurtling into a bunker like an artillery shell. The sudden shift of wait throws you from your seat, and the valkyrie dips wildly, careening out of control. You grab a plasma gun and sling it over your back as you leap from the ship, just as it crashes into a Leman Russ Battle Tank.

You look over to the crater where Iratus landed to see traitors look in, then scream in terror as a enormous claw grabs a heretic and hurls him skywards.

You turn to face another Leman Russ Battle Tank. It's main gun levels with you.

    You have initiative.

You swing your Combi-melta around and flip the switch to fire the blast of superheated gas. The air is filled with the smell of ozone as the weapon whines and fizzles, a gout of melta streaking forward from the barrel of the gun straight into the heart of the tank. You can hear through the hull. Screams. The melta disintegrates the frontal armor of the Russ as you get a look inside, seeing the charred, melting bodies of the tank operators. You run up to duck behind the tank for cover as you restore the Combi-weapon to "Bolter" mode. You peek around the corner of the wrecked tank to see relatively little fire coming towards your position, and you have a chance at getting to the bunker doorway. Iratus is currently engaged in RIP AND TEAR through the heretics in the first bunker. You decide to help out, turning towards the bunker door. Thankfully, you can save your ammo - there's space to build momentum.

Pumping your legs like a well oiled piston, you charge at the door and plant your shoulder against the bulkhead, hitting it like a mag-train. You stand in the clearing dust and smoke, eyes glowing red as you scan the area. Rather than traitor guard, you find yourself amongst cowering guardsmen.

"S-SIR!! Thank the Emperor you're here!"
The guardsmen ready their weapons, standing and saluting at attention.
"We were over run when we responded to a distress signal. We're the Callouth 84th, Veteran Company."
You look over the guardsmen. They're armed with Carapace Armour and combat shotguns. You spot meltabombs on all of their belts along with one being bogged down with a nigh-heretical amount of demolition charges.

"We sealed ourselves in when the drop pods started landing. We were waiting for the signal to counter attack."

Upon close inspection, you see that every guardsmen has his uniform and weapon in perfect working order. A few have purity seals on their armor or weapons, another is in the corner reading from his Primer.

    They seem legit.

Loyal guardsman FUCK YEAR. Borrow at least one melta-bomb. Combat shotguns means they'll be great at clearing trenches. Use them to cover your flanks as you advance through the enemy position, making sure no AT threats get close to Brother Iratus without receiving liberal amounts of explosive death.

Get the name of the trooper with all the det charges. This man understands how it's done. Be sure to use his charges to open new passages from unexpected angles.

Is there a Commissar? Where is their commanding officer? Are there more loyal guardsmen around in the other positions?

For once, I'll retract my urge to venture forth and slay like mad, and second those who would get the most complete tactical picture first.

And beg a few melta-bombs and det charges. Just a few.

Ask the guardsmen if they know anything of the traitors positions; try to get a tactical appraisal of the situation. Strike at vulnerable, though important targets (such as a bassilisk battery, command bunker, etc), from the OUTSIDE of the ring. Continue to strike from the rear; otherwise, if you move closer and link up with your brothers, you will be encircled just as they are, and you become no more than an extra marine, a couple loyalist guardsmen, and a dreadnought. If you strike from the outside of the enemy's lines, then you can do real dammage, and be a real bastard to the enemy's plans. An inglorious one, even.

    >Pockets of Loyalists

"They locked a bunch of them up in the cells. Planned on using 'em fer some heresy, I expect." says the Sergeant, who identifies himself as one Sergeant Voldune. Voldune waves over Demoman, who hands you a satchel filled with meltabombs and two demolition charges.

    >"Go sweep the trenches. The Emperor Protects."

"YES SIR!" The guardsmen all salute with the aquilla over their chest, charging forward with zeal and fury in their hearts, moving through the bulkhead and into the trenches. You hear the ringing of shotgun fire as they throw themselves at the enemy.

Next drawfag thread, I am going to request a sketch of Brother Iratus hurtling out of the sky, shouting "I LIKE SWIIIIIINGS!"

We still need that sit rep from a commanding officer who knows what's going on. Order a guardsman with a vox to start hailing allied forces to updates. In the mean time, get out of the bunker and sweep the trenches with the guardsmen, keeping an eye out for heavy weapons. Take point.

Also Negi, be sure to let us know if you start a continuation thread.

No sense in having these men die foolishly. Move out to help them sweep the trenches and clear any other bunkers. You'll want to find where the heretics are keeping the other loyalists quickly, since they might start executing them out of fear/panic/trying to summon a daemon.

While the guardsmen keep the enemy occupied, team up with Iratus and see if you can't locate the imprisoned guardsmen.
