    Where are you buying a base from? Basically Animism is really strong early game if you play in Africa, pretty strong if you do South America, Central Asia (Thailand or someplace like that). It's weak in America and China and really, really weak in Europe.

    However, if you can get the ball rolling in Europe, China or America you end up with an insane army late game. It basically gives you all the science bonuses and all the fanatic bonuses, not to menion it's the only berserker track that stays relevant past 1200 or so.

    The trap in Animism when you start in America is you can't win in a combat game. You want to boost solidarity and cultural degredation on your opponent until you can win an ideological battle, or at least weaken them enough for a resource grab.     I tried what you suggested, it stopped my basic troops from converting but because the king doesn't get the royalty bonuses himself he just got hit with the conversion instead. Total nightmare.

    Myself, I play perhaps the rarest religion of all that's still tourney legal: LaVeyan Satanism.

    Yes, I only have a handful models on the field even at high point games, but since my utility magic is just so broken, I can buff all my HQ choices into Yahwe equivalents by turn 5.

    The only list I can't consistently beat is the Christian Orphan gimmick army. I mean, I just have to let them kill me and I can't even fight back? BULLSHIT

    It's mostly just a bunch on Independent Characters forcing psychology tests, with the Golden Apple Corps as elites. Should be fun, especially since I'm basing it off of the Zen book from 2nd ed.

    The pope is a character upgrade. You have to pay another 20 points / model, but you don't really get much in the way of options or gear. Your enemy can't use the panpontification rule, and if they did you need to call his bullshit.

    Crowley's lure is really strong on mysticism units that your opponent uses against you, but his backlash special rule means if the game goes on too long you're totally fucked. He's strong, but I wouldn't recommend using him unless you know what you're doing.

    Playing mainline Protestant (mostly Episcopalian, but with some Methodist units to fill it out) and I'm getting hammered by on atheist player.

    I've got him outmatched in terms of firepower, but he keeps hitting me with "gay marriage" attacks that break morale. Once my army is split in half in a doctrine spiral he's driving straight up the middle and picking off the objective.

    How can I counter this? And don't say "Play Baptist." I prefer an army with flexibility even if it is more vulnerable to doctrine attacks.

    Hey - we had to make do with one-armed winged swordsmen and extremely fragile heavenly chariots for years now. Back in the days, we were one of the top-armies, but do you have any idea how much we suck in a modern setting where every fucking African can buy an AA Technicals or a bunch of merchenaries with an old plane? Our only good unit left is ol' Spina de Mul, and even he's extremely gimped compared to the fluff. He's basically a zombie flamethrower donkey and the thing that saves him is that his attack ignores both cover and armour saves.

    You people complaining about your limited choices should really look at Unitarianism. We started out as a tiny Christian sub-faction, and now we don't even know what we are anymore.
