    hey /tg/.
So I'm making the pokemon bestiary and the national dex's ordering sucks.

I'm re-doing the numbering. All legendary pokemon last, babies and new evolutions by their old family members. Maybe all starters in the front. I don't know.

    Any suggestions?
    >> Anonymous 08/07/09(Fri)00:12 No.5364085
Maybe group them by type? Grass first, then Fire, etc.

Or maybe the most common in the front, that would fit with the Legendaries in the back.
    >> Anonymous 08/07/09(Fri)00:19 No.5364138
All of the original starters as the first.. what 36 total starters including all their forms? Group all the ratatas and equivalents from all series together? I'd definitely say rarer types to be located towards the back of the numbers.

I remember you (I think it was you) starting a thread about this recently and it devolved into a talk about a shitty d20 system someone else had done.

Please tell me you're not making a d20 system for the pokeymans because something about d20 pokeymans just fills me with hate.
    >> Dr. Mr. Stark !!d0diDeRpO0s 08/07/09(Fri)00:26 No.5364204
    >>5364138
It currently is a d20 system. The reason is because I can't figure out anything else. I've tried to edit things but unless I can get some good suggestions and not just 'you're idea doesn't sound fun at all' or 'i won't play it' I can't improve it.

If any anons have a really good suggestion, I can do it that way.

    CURRENTLY:
Trainers, who currently use their powers more during RP and training, rely on d20.
Pokemon rely on an entirely new thing.

Os it like the anime/manga where it creates a double or work like evasion system.

    >>5364204
I would say to make the trainers just use whatever it is you're developing for the pokeymans. Mixed rules is kind of... No good if you ask me. Though it would be nice to see WHAT you're using for the pokeymans instead to have some idea.

If you're making such a system, there should at least be the possibility that the trainer just grabs a baseball bat and joins their pokeyman in battle (Though aside from wild fights, this would likely be frowned upon as well as dangerous since you can't heal like pokeymans can at a center...) And this would allow for other interesting campaigns such as before pokecenters and balls where trainer and pokeyman don armour and run off to fight brutal grimdark wars and shit.
    >> Anonymous 08/07/09(Fri)00:35 No.5364289
Use ORE. It's brilliant and simple.
    >> Anonymous 08/07/09(Fri)00:40 No.5364334
I'd sort them either by type or by environment they live in.

Foes have to roll higher to hit you when rolling to hit.

    >>5364275
Pokemon, for now, have been using the following stats which break off into stats that are based off the initial six.
    HP - Their HP/Constitution
    ATK - Strength/Melee Attack modifiers
    DEF - Constitution/Melee Defense modifiers
SP. ATK - Intelligence/Ranged Attack modifiers
SP. DEF - Mind Constitution/Ranged Defense modifiers
    SPEED - Speed/Dexterity

Trainers getting involved during a wild encounter is encouraged. A few classes of trainer, the Martial Artist and Psychic, actually use attacks such as High Jump Kick or Confusion. Illegal during official matches of course, but who is watching in the forest?

I've actually never considered it, but at the next session I will convince my players to adapt. If it runs smoother, that'd be amazing.

Currently a phase in battle goes to the faster pokemon. They move based on their speed, then attack, ending their turn.

Attacking involves rolling to hit. Then, on hit, rolling damage followed by adding damage modifiers.
The foe then subtracts their defense modifiers from the total damage then subtracts that number from their total HP.
    >> Anonymous 08/07/09(Fri)01:06 No.5364612
Can you show us some stats of a starter Pokemon.
    >> Anonymous 08/07/09(Fri)01:09 No.5364638
Order it similar to the national dex, but instead of spreading out all of the evolutionary group, put them all around where a member of the group first shows up in the dex. So put pichu/pikachu/raichu around where pikachu is in the nation dex, etc.
    >> Dr. Mr. Stark !!d0diDeRpO0s 08/07/09(Fri)01:21 No.5364753
Here is a neutral natured Charmander at level 1.
    HP - 4
    ATK - 5
    DEF - 4
    SPATK - 6
    SPDEF - 5
    SPEED - 7

When a pokemon levels up, you must put a stat into a stat that won't ruing the spacing of a pokemon's base stats.

This means you MUST put a stat point into Charmander's SPEED at level 2.

Now, you may increase SP.ATK because that stat will still be one less then SPEED.

At level 3 is your first split decision - you may evenly space your highest base stats by adding to either ATK or SP.DEF.

This isn't entirely required though. You may also add every point gained per level up into your highest natural stat - it maintains its being the highest stat.

Here is that Charmander at level 20, when spreading its stats.
    HP - 4 + 3 = 7
    ATK - 5 + 3 = 8
    DEF - 4 + 3 = 7
    SPATK - 6 + 3 = 9
    SPDEF - 5 + 3 = 8
    SPEED - 7 + 4 = 11

Here is that same Charmander when it's trainer is upping it's prominent stats.
    HP - 4
    ATK - 5
    DEF - 4
    SPATK - 6 + 9 = 15
    SPDEF - 5
    SPEED - 7 + 10 = 17

This can be frustrating when you want a Charmander who is a Melee sweeper.

A Brave, which adds ATK and takes SPEED, natured Charmander instead would have these base stats:
    HP - 4
    ATK - 7 (Instead of 5)
    DEF - 4
    SPATK - 6
    SPDEF - 5
    SPEED - 5 (Instead of 7)

Now you can focus more on this Charmander's ATK without even worrying about increasing its SPEED.

    >>5364753
When a pokemon evolves their base stats are different, which means you get to rearrange those stats.

As a result, the bookkeeping involves 3, maybe 4, columns for keeping track of a pokemon's stats.
The first column is it's Base Stats - they remain unchanged
The second column is where you've put stats - it's helpful to know where you've placed point you've gotten during level up.
The final column is its stats.
A fourth column will most likely be added since it's important to know what your pokemon's stats were at level 50. (Battle Frontier) - The fourth column would be Stats after 50, keeping the 2nd column normal and the 3rd column unchanged after level 50.

    >>5364810
There is much bookkeeping done since you'll ideally have 6 pokemon, but it's simple bookkeeping. Counting.
You have more eventually, but my players during playtesting have found that there are pokemon they may never want to use.

As a result, they keep those pokemon in their PC inventory, stating them only if they find it necessary.

They have found that the effort putting into keeping their pokemon sheets tidy adds to how much they care about their pokemons.

also, i would be more then willing to arrange a pokedex.

i'm also in the procces of downloading all the images off of bulbapedia.

i can finish downloading them (probably wont be done before this page 404's) and rearrange them into a new pokedex.

however i would need away to contact you.

again i recommend a blog or something similar, so you can post updates, and even allow your testers to post some story's about how it play's. And people would be able to supply idea's that might benefit.

    >> Anonymous 08/07/09(Fri)04:18 No.5366096
    I'm intrested in this.

Why don't you just have trainers follow the same rules as pokemon? some trainers already have pokemon attacks like you said, so they would need the stats right? plus in the last thread you said that trainers themselves can fight. Instead of having weird conversion formulas (which would be needed for balance) they can just have the same stats and be done with it.
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 08/07/09(Fri)04:32 No.5366178
hey, im still downloading the images, and when rearranging the pokedex do you want the Pseudo-starters (pokemon that would make good starters but aren't starters themselves, you listed ghastly/abra/machop as examples) grouped with the starters, after the starters, together but away from the starters, or not grouped together?
