124 KB Planescape Magical Girls Anonymous 07/19/09(Sun)02:21 No.5198252
Hey, /tg/! It is that time of week and promising to make more posts about it and forgetting one week later would be stupid, so here we go.

Usual summary for newfags: everyone is Sigil senior high students with magical girl powers, each a different faction. PCs are Bleaker-tan, Doomguard-tan (absent), Godsman-tan, Revolutionary-tan and Sensate-tan, and we're currently running the Great Modron March campaign module.

This session was the adventure "The Unswerving Path", where the March is about to trample through the town of Heart's Faith in Celestia. (read the book if you want details!)

The PCs had to deal with the March as well as Celestia-tan, the magical girl of Celestia who apparently had depression issues and didn't do much. They also ran into Baator-tan, who was there to negotiate with the modrons but annoyed the PCs by taunting Celestia-tan enough for Bleaker-tan to use superstrength to hurl her into the sky. It was revealed that Celestia-tan had issues because she was a tiefling abandoned by her parents at an early age, supposedly because underneath her robes and armor she was ugly as sin.

There was no time to deal with that, though. Since the group is supposed to have limited time we decided to allow only 10-15 minutes for the group to figure out what to do in each encounter or the next one would be failed as the modrons trampled through everything without the PCs present to help.

For people who don't know, what basically happens is that the modrons signed an agreement ages ago to march on a certain path through the town, but the roads have changed since then and the modrons are going to just plow on through buildings and people. The goal is to save as many people as possible, which the PCs did well.

First, in the previous session they had slowed down the March before it even got to the town. Secondly, before the modrons got there they used their magic to collapse buildings and make huge barricades. That was enough to get most people to relative safety.

After that, the modrons poured into the town. A lot of these encounters were on different sides of the town so there was a lot of running and fast thinking:

    - The acting mayor Cauldronborn tried to talk to the modrons as they came into the town. The leading quinton warned him that if he did not remove himself they would do it for him, but he refused to take no for an answer. Luckily, Godsman-tan whipped up a teleportation device and got him to safety in time.

    - A bunch of old graybeards tried to stall the modrons outside a place called the Old Philosopher's Inn so a couple families could get out by lying about having an agreement with them that they would not harm the building. Unfortunately, the modrons kill people who lie abotu that sort of thing, and Godsman-tan was forced to teleport the inn and herself to Excelsior to save them.

    - Another bunch of guards tried to stop them marching through another building that was an historical relic by fighting them off. Bleaker-tan was forced to use superstrength to hurl them into the ocean out of harm's way before the final few guards fled upon discovering that the modrons had steampunk chainsaws to cut through the barricades.

    - Sensate-tan was distracted by a cake store (cakes she hadn't tried before were her weakness), and faced a huge dilemma - a nearby apartment building was about to collapse after the modrons stormed through it, and she could hear people inside, but there was still one enormous, angelic-looking cake she had not tried. She eventually solved it by physically carrying the cake with her and saving the trapped civilians with the others.

    - Elsewhere, the NPC Guvner-tan and an old lady were trying to stop the modrons from tearing through a library. Somehow, Revolutionary-tan and Godsman-tan convinced them to march through carefully by making a logical appeal to the idea of preserving knowledge.

    - Finally, the modrons started to trample through an orphanage before everyone could get out, and only the combined efforts of all the -tans saved the kids.

After that, the modrons started to build a bridge to the gate-town portal leading out of town, but were stopped by a rust dragon ridden by a returned and vengeful Baator-tan. The PCs were gearing up to fight her when Celestia-tan, impressed by all the PCs had done for them, decided to face her problems and confront Baator-tan herself, punching her in the mouth and tackling her off the dragon.

That left the PCs to have a boss battle with a rust dragon. After a combination of magical beam cannons and annoying it with bagpipes and accordions, the rust dragon was eventually vanquished. Celestia-tan apprehended Baator-tan and enough of her armor rusted away to reveal that she wasn't ugly and nobody cared how she looked, which cheered her up.

Afterward the group helped with rebuilding efforts and tried to find excuses to convert Celestia-tan or the town to their factions. The next adventure is pretty much a direct follow-up to this one and involves guarding the modrons as they head to Bytopia from various evil threats. I'm looking forward to it!

why would the PCs bother to try a stop a rust dragon bent on killing the assholes who just ripped through a whole city without regard to any of the life inside.
    >> Godsman-tan 07/19/09(Sun)02:51 No.5198564
    >>5198511

Simple - the dragon was only there to ensure the modrons stayed in the city, not to destroy them all. Baator-tan's goal was to keep the modrons there, making the town more and more miserable until it fell into neutral and evil planes.

Weird thing: At least two of us are huge Planescape fans too. The idea is amazingly silly but I think that's why it's fun to play.

    >>5198511

I was leaving bits out so it didn't get too tl;dr, but it was pretty much because Baator-tan planned to force the modrons to stick around hoping that so many lawful creatures would shift the town towards Mechanus; she'd try and shift it to Baator after that. So basically she's an asshole and they don't like her. (They did find out her real name is Cupcake and she hates being called that, too, so it was a bonus.)

After the battle Revolutionary-tan used chaos magic to turn it into a wooden dragon-shaped bridge which the modrons used to get the hell out of there.

And yeah, modrons can be assholes.

I thought /tg/ would be more interested in modrons with chainsaws! (or chainswords, as some insisted.) I am surprised in new ways every day.

That is kind of what I was going for there. She thought she looked terrible, but really she looked more like Annah.

Dude, there's no such thing as 10/10. The rating system isn't how _well_ somebody trolls, but how subtly they do it.

    10/10 would therefore mean undetectable.

And even if it was how well somebody trolls (which I'm sure in some parlances it is) it would still be the same thing. The most successful troll would be undetectable since it's impossible to truly get angry at someone that you know is pretending (unless of course, they know that you get angry at people who pretend so they pretended to pretend to be an unsubtle troll, at which point the entire universe collapses).

On more relevant notes, keep up the Planescape Magical Girl campaign. More for the Planescape than Magical Girl, but eh. So it goes.

Oh, and will there be a Mimir-tan?

I've seen these threads before, but this one suddenly spawned a new idea in my head.

Would you mind if I ran a copy-cat campaign, with Ravnica rather than Planescape as the setting? Mahō Shōjo Ravnica... I must consider this deeply...

    Badly being the operative word.

As long as you end up with something that either works in a strange way, or is just so ludicrously silly, or it makes freakish sense. If it simply isn't doing anything, it's not going to be much fun.

See, thing is. Planescape purist-wise? There's no one more fanatical about that setting than me. I fucking love the setting, in SECOND edition AD&D. I loathe Faction War. I'm willing to throw punches if someone suggests that, say, Eberron is a better setting.

But at the same time, I love the hell out of this campaign I'm in. If you love something enough, you're willing to make a few jokes at its expense. The moment you're unable to take a joke about something, you're insecure about it, or about yourself.

If you feel like OMG FAGGOTS when other guys roleplay girls(okay, some dudes are REALLY creepy about it, but we're talking just in general,) then I'd risk saying you're insecure in your own sexuality in some way.

Yeah, it's a game about teenage magical girls, occasionally we make a joke about tits, but no one's beating off under the virtual table and there isn't any creepy lesbian cybersex behind the scenes.

    >>5198511

What >>5198564, said, plus, Oresta(Bleaker-tan) doesn't really hate the modrons. They're a problem for the people, but she doesn't consider them evil. In fact, there are very few people she DOES consider evil(or just plain mean). Baator-tan is one of the only few. She even tried to adopt Pandemonium-tan and get her committed to the Gatehouse so they could cure her barminess(and this was a girl who tried to chew out her throat every time they met.).

PS: Bleaker-tan was wielding the accordion and the bagpipes.

<Bleaker-tan> "I don't want to fight you, Mr. Dragon! Factol Lhar always says everything seems pointless after I play my bagpipes, so maybe it'll make fighting us seem pointless to you!"
    >> Bleaker-tan's Player 07/19/09(Sun)10:35 No.5201649
    >>5198263

Bleaker-tan also slowed down the Modrons on the way by telling them that they were breaking the Celestial Speed Limit(a law she made up, but it slowed them down while they checked if it existed.).

She was also generally ferrying people out of the town by air while everyone else was trying to come up with good ideas. She pretty much gave up on thinking about stuff.

I was pretty proud of the "huck people into the ocean to save them"-plan. Three ranks of Superstrength is AWESOME in BESM.
