Variety of settings, variety of situations, variety of other characters interacting with them (or not, as the case may be). Do that until what you're writing down feels right for the character or characters in question.
That's what I do.
>Once you can come up with a set of parameters, write the characters in them, and feel that you got it right the first time, you'll have it down. If you're going to be introducing somebody important to the plot, try to do this in advance.
This as well.
The problem I'm seeing, and the problem that's been brought up, is how everything seems shallow, cliche, and generic. Of course, I'm bias since I spend the most time with the characters, the story, and with details about both that will probably never reach the eyes and mind of the reader.
It's difficult to change since the restrictions set upon me don't allow it. What I ultimately want to know is what you, the reader, want? What do you want me to change, what do you want me to add - to subtract? |
