    >When you check into the Mansions Hotel at 2220 Sacramento Street, be sure to tell the desk clerk if you want a Non-Haunting Room. The hotel consists of two magnificent mansions. The newer one is free of ghosts. The older one is haunted.

The hotel documents its uncanny history in a display that includes affidavits of witnesses, transcripts of seances, and photographs. For years, guests have complained about strange noises, cold shadows moving about, and even toilet seats flying across the room. Last year, a ghost materialized in front of several witnesses during a seance in a third floor suite. The ghost's photograph is now part of the hotel's haunted gallery.

    > Moss Beach Distillery
The gruesome ghost of a lady in a blue dress, soaked in blood, haunts an old speakeasy on Highway 1. Locals say she is the spirit of a young woman stabbed to death in front of this cliffside restaurant, nearly 70 years ago. She was murdered on the beach by her jealous lover, the piano player at the bar.

then of course, there's FUCKING ALCATRAZ.

I'm curious as to how you'll handle the mechanics of using the proton packs to wrangle the ghosts. I mean, some ghosts would only take one 'Buster to pull them around, while bigger haunts would take two or three.

Others (such as poltergeists) lack a meaningful physical form and would require creative use of other equipment to trap.

I've played this system. It's fun, rules lite, and if you have a group who winds up goofing off more than playing the goofing off winds up actually being an important part of the game, so you get shit done.
It takes an absolute bare minimum of planning to run and it takes 3 minutes to make a character.

Proton packs heat up during use and must be vented manualy to prevent a system shut-down and automatic venting (which takes longer).

Proton streams act as methods to sap PKE from ghosts until they are weak enough for the stream to wrangle them.

while wrangling, you can struggle and "slam" he ghost if you build up an energy reserve from extended wrangling, these slams pacify the ghost enough so you can position it above a trap, or you can try and "slam dunk" the ghost into the trap.

Depending on the ghost (ghosts are ranked I-X), they may struggle more or less than others and you'll have to stuggle against them to keep them in the confinement beam until the trap closes.

If it was d20, I'd just make the proton pack Grapple, and give the ghosts good Grapple modifiers. I mean, that's how it works. Hold the ghost still, then trap it.

So, give the Proton pack a Grapple modifier of, say, +5. Small ghost are +4, so a challenge but doable. You have to Grapple to Pin, then another party member can use a trap to trap them.

    What do you think?

I've always thought it would be pretty neat to have a Ghostbusters truck built into a refurbished fire engine, instead of an old ambulance or hearse. It could be rigged up as a mobile containment unit.

And X-Com only generates property damage with, y'know, BLASTER BOMBS and stuff. Not so much with a proton beam. Unless you're that guy with the banquet room, he'd disagree.

But yeah, I already saw Cincinnati get mentioned once. This place is...interesting. I always say to people its two major exports are racial violence and pork fetishes. There's a few things here that might actually attract some Ghostbustan, though, and helpful fa/tg/uys feel free to help.

1: Like I said, oodles of racial tension, not as much as there used to be, leads to violent crimes. The 2001 riots were scary. Lots of ghosts just from this.
2: We used to be the pig slaughterhouse capitol of the world, essentially. We were unofficially named Porkopolis. Meatpacking industry is still huge. Pig ghosts?
3: The abandoned subways. This is the big one. Basically, due to bureaucratic hurfing and durfing, we built an entire subway system, then realized we ordered the wrong size rails. We were far too deep in the hole to keep spending, so we essentially said "fuck it" and sealed it shut. However, there's still plenty of open spaces to get in, and there's all sorts of crazy shit reported down there. It's full of graffiti, is often purported to be incredibly dangerous due to structure falling down after nearly 100 years, and if you believe the local hysteria mongers, is a hot point for satanic rituals in the deeper, less-accessible junctions. Dead hobos, occult rituals, easy place to hide dead gangbangers, this place would be hopping with supernaturals.

Ive run several GB games, One of the more enjoyable ones I did was set in Japan for a few of my more Weeaboo friends, Ghostbusters Tokyo.

The "Firehouse" was an older Bank,2 stories tall with a vault in the basement. The 2nd floor became the rec area / bunk rooms and Labs, the main floor the new garage and customer area.

The basement became the workshop / storage area, the containment unit and some gear was housed in the vault.

While the English part of the sign out front read "Ghostbusters" the Japaneses translation however came out a little something closer to "Dishonorable Dead Disposers"

So they got to deal with the whole Japaneses style of ghosts and restless dead.

    Good times, Good times.

Remember there are several kinds of ghosts in most GB settings,

Actual spirits of dead humans, some are warped over time to look somewhat inhuman.

Beings that were never human or alive, devils, boggans, sprites, angels, so forth and so on.

and lastly Summoned or incidentally created ectoplasmic manifestations. These can come about in PKE active areas, ley lines and the like, special places basically. You would be surprised how many there are.

My GBs once had a bust at a used car lot, ghost kept showing up and wrecking havoc with all the cars almost every night, breaking glass, cloging exhausts, the works.

The PCGBs go in, bust the ghost, get the money and leave... but in a week its happening AGAIN.

Lucky for the PCGB they Carlot owner did not sign up for the rehaunt insurance so could charge him again for the 2nd time, but the PCs had to figure out why this was a repeat haunting.

It boiled down to the fact that the car lot owner was a schister and was cheating people left and right selling lemons. This Negative emotion from his customers manifested here as the ghost doing the haunting and pranks, the PCs has to convince the car lot owner to stop screwing people, or they would not come back out to bust the ghost again...

Sorry about the wall of text.

I'm suprised no one even mentioned New Orleans as a possible setting, but I was about to mention Chicago or Houston myself. But Houston kinda sucks for ghosts.

As for New Orleans, you have an ancient French city that's been victim to murders, hurricanes, gambling, and not to mention the bayou and the superstitions that run around there. I'm sure you can make some fun encounters regarding ghosts using the dark mysticism of voodoo to screw around with your players.

Russia. Old KGB men turned into violent ghouls. The mafia and government tangling with the supernatural and the players have to deal with both. Around the areas of battles from WWII there'd be a lot of ghost activity.

    Stalin's ghost is the BBEG

Gritty eastern bloc atmosphere, supernatural activity originating from many time periods. Rival Ghostbusters using shoddy jerry-rigged Russsian-style Proton Packs. Rural areas around Moscow, and the thick urban Soviet jungle inside with all kinds of shady characters, living and dead.

Haunted KGB torture chambers, Ghost soldiers fighting each other. White Russian Ghosts that walk around in pre-revolutionary finery.

    Etc.

The majority of my suggestions have been said, but they bear repeating:

Chicago (Mafia ghosts, Chicago Fire ghosts, Sports fan ghosts)
    New Orleans (Nature-themed/Shaman ghosts)
San Francisco (Earthquakes, fires, riots, etc. all make for some mean ghosts)
Detroit (Violent deaths abound there will make for some especially violent ghosts)

What I would find interesting is something that is mentioned in the Ghostbusters game. Peck (in all his inaptitude) says something smart; the Ghostbusters put up with him so they can try to get a government contract and take their business nation-wide.

If I was to RP out a Ghostbusters game, I'd have it be like 1995, with the RP'ers all being contracted out to work in [insert choice city here] by the government after you've completed "basic training" in New York with the original four (the Rookie from the game is the head of the DPICT - Department of Paranormal Investigators and Capture Teams). "Basic training" includes your government authorization to carry/wield a Proton Pack, your "Government will provide your customers with collateral damage" insurance plan, and getting slimed by Slimer, who by now is the "unofficial" mascot of the Ghostbusters.

Ghostbusters is set in New York in the late 80s.

    Pic related.

I propose a musical crossover adventure involving the sexually frustrated ghosts of HIV-ridden bohemians.

More fun things about the SF bay area - The Golden Gate bridge is a pretty popular suicide jumping spot, Alcatraz island doesn't need much introduction, but if you go a little down south (about an 45min drive away) and hit San Jose, there's the Winchester Mystery House which was built (and built some more) by the wife of the Winchester Rifle company founder who was convinced ghosts of people who died from the rifles were coming after her. The house is a maze, with hallways going everywhere and nowhere so the ghosts couldn't get her.
San Jose also boasts the Rosicrucian Museum, which is THE place if you want to learn about ancient Egypt.

Nearby is the Haunted Toys R Us in Sunnyvale, home of a spirit of a rancher who died in an accident, supposedly as the story goes.

Chicago would be the best choice. Its a city that burned down several times so you'd expect some ghosts.
New Orleans would also be a nice choice.
It is currently a dream of mine to find a 1959 Miller Meteor, or at least the outer shell on top of newer guts, and convert it fully to an Ecto 1.

New Orleans - lots of Voodoo, Houngans, drowning victims, Lust Spirits from Mardi Gras and considering it was used as a pirate port back in the 17-1800s, ghost pirates!

Think of the problems the excessive moisture would cause with the proton pack. Not to mention the spores, molds and fungus that Egon would so love to collect.

One of the upgrades to the slime blower in the new game was created by using a new growth medium discovered in Egon's mold collection.

Not all the time. In the game, one thing he mentioned is that to maximize his time to develop new gear, researching up on the ghosts, make new weapons for the proton pack and STILL bust some ghosts, he is experimenting with sleeping (on average) 12 minutes a day.
