    98 KB Necromunda/DH Shotgun modelling. Anonymous 06/09/09(Tue)11:43 No.4820902
I’ve found that getting hold of shotgun models is one of the hardest things for modelling, so a little bit of brainstorming resulted in the following quick and effective conversion.

I hope it's of use to anyone making stuff, struggling to get hold of shotgun models. Please pass it around.

    What you need:
One plastic Bolter – the newest version.
Brass Rod or Tube, 1.5mm diameter.
    Fretsaw with fine blade.
    Superglue.

Extra details: Greenstuff, or lead foil.

    130 KB
Take one boltgun, and, as by the photograph, quarter it. If you have a fine saw, you can cut a line just forward of the bolter’s casing ejection port, and just behind the lower foregrip

Then on the front part, cut the foregrip away and on the back part cut the bolter magazine away, so you have 4 parts.

or you can you the ones from the scout box

    111 KB
Now, cut two pieces of brass rod 14mm long. If you want, you can use brass tube for one, to have an open barrel.

         File :1244562389.jpg-(123 KB, 800x600, shot4.jpg)
    123 KB
Glue the two pieces of brass together, side by side

    92 KB
Take the upper rear quarter of the boltgun, and drill into the front face, then carefully enlarge the hole(s) to the size of the brass rod.

Carefully glue and press the brass rod into place as a barrel and magazine tube underneath. Note that the hole for the barrel and tube will make the plastic very thin, so be certain not to use too much pressure, or the plastic will split.

Now cut or file into the fore-grip a slot to it will slip over the lower magazine tube as a pump action, and place it in a position.

Finally, for detail, take the top front quarter of the boltgun, and carefully cut away the front sight. File an indent into the bottom of this, and attach it to the top of the barrel as a sight.
An additional detail is to use greenstuff or a metal foil (I use the lead foil used to wrap the corks on bottles of single malt. Laphroaig, to be exact. Go and buy a bottle now, you won’t regret it.) to wrap around the barrel and magazine at the point of the fore-sight, to give some more detail. It makes the gun look more finished to me.

and finished for use. clean up any gap/holes with greenstuff, glue into place, and enjoy.

OP here. I always preferred the island malts to speyside.

Caol Isla. now that is a drink from the gods.

meanwhile, I'm staring at another bolter and a lasgun trying to work out how to convert them into autoguns for necromunda gangers... pic related. use the bolter magazine from the shotgun conversion as the mag for an AK style autogun, perhaps?

rather a bit like saying that good tits are superior to fake silicone tits.

though in the US's defence there are one or two passable small whiskey makers, its just the big ones like JD and the likes are shit. After all, Famous Grouse or Bells are just as minging, compared to the subtleties of say, Jura and Dalwhinnie.

Perhaps, although the second tube on the bottom of most standard pump-action shotguns are usually where the ammunition is stored. Or, you could consider it a semi-automatic, say it's a gas-operated shotgun with that being the feed with the piston back to the receiver.

Then again, I don't know if you are a stickler for such small details. Personally, I think box magazines are more up the Shotgun's alley.

oh, I know file well how a tube mag shotgun works - was rather imaing for a remington870 look, rather than a saiga/spas15 box-fed shottie for the conversion.

what I was thinking was taking the unused boltgun mag, and using it for a second conversion, creating autoguns - ideally, so one bolter can create a shottie, and an autogun. though that might be a bit more of a complex conversion.

tempting to go for a WW2 style, and make Sten SMGs with perforated guards, but they'd be a *lot* of work.

    very G36-esque.

    I like.

might use that as the basis for some conversions sometime.

Sounds like a good idea. Wouldn't choose Stens myself, but those are somewhat cool guns.

Bonus points for a nicely done skeleton stock. Always loved how the M1 Carbine looked with one of those.

    very G36 indeed.

keeping that as a reference shot.

someday, I want to have some fun, re-write Necromunda for modern-day firearms, and get players to make modern gangs inspired by STALKER...

    G36 and AK74s? oh yes.

    >How much do you generally spend in making one of those, op? And how much do you waste to build one item?

cost to make one, technically, nothing, I had the bits lying around.
but £2 / $2 worth of brass rod will do for about 20 guns, plus the bolter itself, which was sitting around in a bitsbox.
the bolter was used up in making the shotgun, but the magazine is intact, and I'm now looking at recycling that into autogun parts, which would use the same brass rod, and maybe a little bit of plastic card.

    pretty efficient, in all.
waste, a few little bits of plastic, maybe a few mm of brass from filing the ends clean. nothing else lost. maybe one sawblade for 10 models too.
