Okay. So I have this idea. Basically, it's where Earth branched off into two timelines around 1890s-1900s and it only kept speeding up after the two world wars.

One is sort of utopian, perhaps a "negative utopia". Think 1950s America. All that optimism, idealism and prosperity...coupled with a huge amounts of conformity and new superficiality, where there are very persistent social pressures. They've had a world government since post-WW2, and the League of Nations was far more successful. The Cold War never happened, since a revolution against Stalin and loans made out to Moscow led to the USSR becoming a socialist democracy with a strong progressive bend.

The next is a dystopian world. Every living generation has known war. WW1 & WW2 were far more bloody. WW2 dragged on until it could only lead to the collapse of civilization, so an armistice was signed by the major powers. The Cold War never ended, as the USSR is still standing. You're either living in an over bureaucratic faux democracy where politicians panders to the very religious population. Or maybe you live in a Communist country and you're persecuted for being anything that isn't an Atheist. Their brand of authoritarianism is far more out in the open.

Military wise, they differ greatly. The BrightLight militaries are full o inexperienced, pacified soldiers with things like anime-esque giant robots and laser guns. The GrimDark group uses simple, easy to maintain technology. Some of it is still advanced, but a tanker is more likely to use a refitted M60 than some Abrams tank.

Somehow, someway, a rift was open between these two alternate realities. Suddenly there were "gates" to entering the otherside. Other times, the prosperous Park Avenue of BrightLight would switch places with the bombed ruins of Park Avenue of GrimDark.

So I'm likely going to have it take place in those two Americas, since I'm most knowledgeable on the US. Each session, the players will use their alternate character from the other reality to give the PCs a more rounded perspective...or maybe to see what each side sees through their rose-tinted glasses.

What system would be best for this? Dogs in The Vineyard & UA seem great, but aren't realistic/simulationist enough in the combat mechanics.

    This seems complicated.

Cheap, poor 19 yr old prostitute who looks 40 or prude, superficial woman. Take your pick.

    >>4695805
It is. But I want some personal-conflicts/mindfucks while having a good dose of realistic combat.

You can do this with pretty much any system, although personally if you want to focus on the narrative/cross-cultural aspects of the game, i would avoid overly-complex systems, like GURPS or Storyteller.

Personally i would go with a simple system like AFMBE (Unisystem)

    I was aware of that.

Basically what you have to pick between is complex systems with a shitton of material you can use, or simple systems (but you'll have to make up most of the material yourself).

    Choose your poison, i guess.

Most settings benefit from the inclusion of zombies.

Fido, for example. A 50s based movie, made better with zombies.

Actually, if I recall correctly, UA is very simulationist in the way it handles combat. Which is to say that it's a fucking stupid idea and there's a good chance that you'll be permanently maimed or die.

Of course, I could be wrong.
