43 KB Fucking Manly Tears Anonymous 03/18/09(Wed)13:45 No.4014241
I know this has absolutely nothing to do with /tg/; but since you are my favorite board, I thought I'd share this with you.

    >Bereft of his ability to fly and with nowhere to go, a courageous bat climbed aboard our Discovery with stars in his weak little eyes.
    >The launch commenced, and Spacebat trembled as his little mammalian body was gently pushed skyward.
    >For the last time, he felt the primal joy of flight; for the first, the indescribable feeling of ascending toward his dream—a place far away from piercing screeches and crowded caves, stretching forever into fathomless blackness.
    >Whether he was consumed in the exhaust flames or frozen solid in the stratosphere is of no concern to us. We know that Spacebat died, but his dream will live on in all of us.

    http://i.gizmodo.com/05173385/shuttle+riding-bat-dies-the-most-glorious-death-imaginable

This is now a manly tears thread.

When I was around seven or eight years old my mother and father got me a puppy for my birthday. I named him Rex. He was from the pound and he was really cheap, but that was because he had a heart condition and a crippled leg that got injured during birth. (One of the reasons I called him Rex was because he looked like he had a T-Rex hand). I didn't have many friends, but that didn't matter to me because I had Rex. Every day, after school, I would walk home to pick up Rex so we could go play in th epark. He wasn't a very fast dog, but he still liked to play fetch. People used to be really concerned over my dog's weird limp when he would run back with the ball, but I would tell them it was because he was born that way. He and I were best friends for about four years, but one day when I was twelve I came home to play with him and he didn't come when I called his name. So I went to his bed and he was there sleeping. I tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't budge. So I sat there for three hours until mom came home just petting him. Then my mom and dad took him away and to soften the blow they told me he was sleeping; they told me that he had moved on to the dream world. So I decided that night I would visit him. I went to bed early and I fell asleep, hoping to meet him in my dreems, but he never came. I did that for months and every night it was the same thing. It has been years since that day and during that time I have lost my belief in Santa, the Easter Bunny and all sorts of childhood heroes, but every night I go to bed hoping in the back of my mind that I might finally get to see Rex again so we can play fetch in the park one, last time.

    >Let's be real here. The bats are pissed that aren't the only mammals that can "fly", and he was sent to break some ceramic heat tiles with high frequency waves. He failed.

    No... no.

He didn't want to sabotage anything. He wanted to know how the humans felt. How they could ride the pillars of fire to the sky. He wanted to fly higher than he ever had before. Spacebat wanted to know how the sky felt... but did he ever? Was he consumed by the flame, or did he get there? Did he fly higher than any bat had ever flown?

    Did he, /tg/?

As you go out this morning, to face the world for another day, remember that no matter how nasty and wrong things may seem, one thing can always be said to be true.

Mr. Rogers loved you. He didn't care who you were, or where, or what religion, gender, color, race, or tax bracket. He loved you all the same. All he ever wanted was to make this world a better place in whatever little ways he could, and to give scared and confused Cold-War-Era kids a nationally televised knee to sit on and a shoulder to cry on.

He went into television because he didn't like what was on, and he saw the potential it could have. He saved public TV almost single-handedly from the cost-cutting of the Nixon Administration, simply because he knew how useful, how GOOD it could be for America and it's children.

And trust in this, /tg/, if you trust in nothing else.

He still loves you. Even today.

Spacebat clung to life aboard the Discovery. He often dreamed of the heavens beyond the clouds. What did the night truly look like? The engines ignited and the rocket rumbled from the grasp of gravity. In seconds, Spacebat would go where no bat had gone before. Almost silent, almost serenely Spacebat broke through the blinding haze of clouds and saw every star in the night sky. This was true night and he was king. The shuttle broke through the atmosphere and the oxygen became thin. Spacebat knew it would only be a matter of time, as tears of joy and regretless adventure fell from his eyes. He closed them to the sight of space for the last time. Or did he?

Awaken, O conquerer of stars! O seeker of the heavens! I grant you eternity among the cosmic clouds; immortality within the caverns of space! The solar winds shall carry you! The nebulae shall fuel you! O great winged god in truest night! The powers have you now.

The furries desecrate all. To stand by is to tacitly endorse, and indirectly participate in, that desecration. We must be ever vigilant, ever prepared to rebuke them for their corrupt and licentious ways. To relent, even for a moment, is to allow their madness to spread unchecked and unopposed. We cannot let them defile the memory of Spacebat. We must not.

Well, so far I have not seen any furry porn, sedition of Space Bat's sexual proclivities, attitudes, or physical depictions of the genitilia of Space Bat, so there was nothing here DEFILING this cenotaph until those who spoke about furfaggotry first uttered their senile syllables!

Furthermore, you have implied of an inherent senility, slothfulness, malaise, and lack of vigilance within the patrons and clergy of these halls. Standing by does not implicitly mean to waste breath and constantly talk about the menace at hand. To echo hollow words without thought and to induce a form of "Crying wolf," if I may take a colloquialism correctly, at every chance does not make up for keeping faith, nor for keeping your soul open for signs of ill and the warnings of our Gods. To understand the reasoning behind why we do all this, to understand what the fundamental situation is much more important than speaking again and again of such a blight that we face today and to only recognize that there is a threat! To only agree that there is a threat and nothing else is much worse in the eyes of Gods than not learning anything at all.

Again, you have also slandered our Clergy by implying that they are slothful, yielding cattle who only look down at the grass in order to fill their 4 stomachs evermore. You cannot be more wrong, and you cannot make much more of a terrible accusation of your peers and fellow servants of the Gods.

There's such a thing as being aware of how puny and meaningless everything is and still being able to appreciate the experiences we have and the knowledge we gain from our tiny, pointless world. Insignificance is not the same as nonexistence. Significance is also relative.

It's a bat that has died. However, it has died in a sentimental and emotional manner. Despite how minute and how little it matters, our humanity allows us to attach importance to such things, even if the object isn't truly important.

It isn't important but it matters to us anyway because we want it to matter.

Threads like these reveal the sad, pathetic core of /tg/, all these nerds desperate to feel an attachment to someone, to be able to relate to someone, but too afraid to connect to actual human beings. When someone posts a thread like this it's like all floodgates are opened and all the repressed emotions /tg/ never lets itself feel are let loose. You're not weeping for the bat, guys. The bat is you. The only difference is, your death will be far more mundane.
