Ok, last nights thread saw me shift back to planning an Original Regiment rather than basing my IG army on the Macharian crusade.

Now it needs a nice solid theme.
My initial idea was a regiment based around tanks and snipers, but later I got a momentary brainstorm about a night world with a large psyker population.
Anyone with knowledge of the leaked IG info, is a mass-psyker army a viable idea?

    Pic most certainly related.

Have you read Legion yet, theres a guard legion in it which has psychic commanders (all hot teenage women).
You could have a similar affair, just have lots of psykers instead of lieutenants (or junior officers as their calling them these days), using their psychic clairvoyance [sp?] to guide their troops, plus lots of normal psykers (the ususal 5 you can take, unless thet decide to ditch them in the new codex).

    -4 other Psykers

On the other hand, his Ravenor novels feature the only actually INTERESTING psychic battles in Black Library novels, because they're a little more involved than two people hurling bolts of light at each other, and instead have lots of mental landscapes and shapechanging and other stuff that I'm really not doing justice to.

Also, the Eisenhorn novels are more about Eisenhorn, while the Ravenor novels are more about his Acolytes, so the Ravenor novels actually work as very good examples of Dark Heresy campaigns.

Personally, I prefer the Eisenhorn trilogy, because it has this nice character arc for Eisenhorn as he transforms from a Puritan inquisitor into a Radical one over the course of the trilogy, and it feels very naturally done, while Ravenor doesn't change much over the course of his trilogy.

Although I have to admit that in the Ravenor trilogy, the bad guys are excellently written. Particularly memorable is one scene where the main bad guy enjoys a meal in a restaurant and explains how he could make the entire subsector destroy itself by using this vial of poison in the right place right now.

I just thought from a fluff point of view you could have the commanders as very low level psykers linked to their troops, means they dont need voxes, they just use THEIR MIND!

Also Legion was a great spy novel, everyone trying to out spy everyone else, just a shame all the marines in it were hiding in the desert the whole time.

Regarding the Abhuman rules, cool idea but I don't think it's exactly what I'm looking for. Also I'm retaining traditional banners because I love making banner bearers.

    Now the question of modelling.
The delicious OP pic of Manis is a big inspiration for this but then there is this idea about Delaques with head/arm swaps
And then there are the actual Psyker models...

    A few key modelling questions
-Helmets/gasmasks. If any, what kind? Mantis-style? Krieg-style? Helghast style?
-Posing. What is the besdt pose for say, a psyker plasma gunner? A hadoken pose? A force choke pose?
-Colours. Being nightworlders it's probably black and grey (with glowing eyes) but is that too boring?

Also base list idea, made with LOTS of guessing on the new Guard codex

Daemonhunters Lord w/ Familliar, 3 plasma gun veterans
Command Platoon + standard + master vox + tank commander + primaris psyker + psyker + plasma gun

20 actual psykers from the Last Chancers, 1 counts-as psyker in the form of Kage, 5 Sanctionites, between 8 and 12 plasma-psykers and a couple of extra telepaths from hardened veteran squads (hooray Veterans doctrines).
I think that's around 900 points at most, so still plenty of room to add, say, a command platoon with potentially TEN MORE PLASMA-PSYKERS and a Daemonhunter Lord.

One of the few Imperial Guard regiments to come out of the dark fortress of Nemesis Tessera, the fighting force known as the Mantis Legion is the product of decades of research by the Scholastica Psykana and the Inquisition.

Headed by a masterful psyker credited in official documents as "The Primogen Sample", the Mantis Legion has made a name for itself as terrifying shock troops, often operating alongside Templaris Psykana and Inquisitorial strike forces to root out "special threats" to the Imperium.

Though the exact nature of the Mantis Legion is a well-kept secret, it is apparent that they field numbers of psykers far exceeding the norm for Imperial Guard regiments. When performing operations, the regiment is often accompanied by an attending Inquisitor, perhaps watching over the Ordos' radical project.

You should model the commander or Primaris Psyker to be levitating in the air. Stick one of the street lamps from the Cities of Death sets, model the Psyker/commander to look like he's floating, string him up on fishing wire, and tie it to the lamp.

Or maybe something better. It's just an idea.

I would say they should use real weapons such as lasguns and minor psychic powers.

Using phy powers for you primary weapon would be bad, as you would eventualy get fried by the warp. Also imagine hundreds of psykers using their powers constantly, and at the same time.

Are these psykers the horrible, mutated, twitching wrecks most psykers (non-spess mehreen that is) seem to be in 40k? Or are they just regular people with minor psychic abilities that aren't enchanced by implants? I think we're going to need a power scale to figure out how powerful they are.

I was thinking very minor powers for the average guy, with some blooming up sudden violent powers (plasma gunners) and others unlocking entirely new potential (actual psykers & voxmen) in themselves.
As it's a recent event the most of them wouldn't bee TOO horribly fucked up, but as the lot wears masks anyway it'd be hard to tell.

    >>Helmets/gasmasks. If any, what kind? Mantis-style? Krieg-style? Helghast style?

Personal taste. What are you leaning towards? You might want to check out the Secrets of the Third Reich SHS (Separate Head System) for additional head options aside from Pig Iron's stuff: http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=126_149

    >>Posing. What is the besdt pose for say, a psyker plasma gunner? A hadoken pose? A force choke pose?

You know that one Sanctioned Psyker fig his his hand on his head? It would look awesome if you can somehow manage to light up the eyes. ...or if you can't, maybe you can use clear acrylic gel to build up some kind of lighting. That or rip some energy effects from a Hero Clix fig to transplant.

    >>-Colours. Being nightworlders it's probably black and grey (with glowing eyes) but is that too boring?

If you have glowing eyes, just make sure it's mostly dark colors. It doesn't mean you have to have black or gray. Dark blue or dark red should work fine. Hell. Dark whatever.

    ...

Leman Variant, idea: See if you can find a clear sphere roughly the size of a Leman, or a base so people won't bitch as much. Put a psyker in the center of it, suspended on a clear post. Make it look like he's floating around. Counts as, etc. Now just imagine a psyker floating through the battlefield blasting people with templates and asplodin mind bullets.

While the limits of her abilities have never been explored, documents list them as powerful enough to throw Ork roks heading for the planet off course with no noticeable strain.

Personaly I'm leaning to the Helghast look but I wonder how well that works with trenchcoats.
Human Zoanthrope is a rather cool idea, but I think I want actual tanks.

Does anyone know good ways to make the glowy eyes? I've seen pics of LEDs inside Necrons and 1k sons (how the hell did they get power to those?) but I doubt that'd work well with 2-part metal models with no cavities...

    >>3935118

Metal is going to be a pain in the ass but it's not impossible. You'll need very small LEDs. Maybe even -very carefully- shave them down. Drill a hole in the back of the head. You can probably fill in the eyes with acrylic gel medium and color them. Depending on how everything's set up, you might need to do some heavy drilling to run the wire through the body and maybe down the inside of a tube to conceal the wires if the fig is floating or whatever.

Alternatively, maybe you can hide the wires in plain sight by a few embellishments, making them look like surgical implants.

The Thousand Sons marine you're referring to had an LED in the torso, with a watch battery tucked under the base and wire running up through the legs. It made it a little lopsided, but the effect is damn pretty.

I'm looking at a minimum 60 models here
That's gonna be a bit of a workload there...

I was thinkign of taking a forgeworld theme alongside the psyker one, to sort of explain why the regiment is still there rather than psyc-out goop and an airless rock.
The planet makes vehicles, and as it's a harsh night-world, suitable replacement crews are hard to find. So the Inquisiton just keeps an eye on things, but lets the planet live on to keep production up.

This also explains the large amounts of tanks and aircraft.

    >>And what stick a battery on it?

A thin battery like the ones you use in certain laser pointers or watches.

    >>I'm no electrician but I don't think LEDs just magicaly glow for no reason.
    ...Do they?

No. No they don't. But if you believe hard enough, they might glow for you. Unfortunately, I doubt anyone else would see it, and you'll be visiting the looney bin soon after you succeed.
Just use some metal tabs to make the contacts. If you need a switch and can't find a micro switch, use a small screw for the swivel and two or three metal contact plates. You need at least one contact on the battery but bridging the power can use either one or two plates. One is the simplest of course. You'll want those wires soldered onto the contacts for better reliability.

    >>Maybe I should just paint the eyes glowy...

Maybe. It's entirely up to you of course.

Brand them. Maybe not all of them visibly, but at least brand a few as a sign that they're sanctioned. Maybe a few with a different kind of brand and a collar to show that they were trying to hide their abilities and are now paying penance or serving sentence. Explosive collars, probably. Maybe.
