  • "UPTIME IS THE GAME, DOWNTIME IS THE NAME"
today marks the end of scheduled maintenance—two guys with two weeks to kill and a few hundred hours later, we're finally [mostly] done.
page loads/image downloads should be dramatically faster. until we hit 1gbps, at least. to all of my wonderful and ungrateful users: "you're welcome."
(note: there are still a few other things i'll be working on so expect intermittent downtime)
ps: thanks so much to mvb for all of the help and support.

    My group gave up.

Every D&D dungeon we play now is just a series of rooms, with an encounter in each one of increasing difficulty, that leads eventually to a final room. This room has a mushroom person, who explains that this is the wrong dungeon, and we do it all over again.

Sounds better than my group. First it started out really cool with lots of fast paced action. Sure the storylines were simple but it was still a lot of fun. Then our group expanded and the roleplaying elements increased (one of the new guys played a Good fighter tricked by the bad guys into helping them and it added a bit more drama to the game). After a few sessions that didn't really take off, we decided to expand the group again. Now the storylines were getting a bit more contrived and some of the new guys characters were absolutely horrible (one in particular just took my character and made him DARKER AND EDGIER to the DM's delight) but it was still kind of fun. Now all the DM seems to be doing is expanding the group and making up more and more stupid storylines that focus on DRAMA!

tl;dr, Can I join your group?

My DM has a habit of adding in annoying 'sidekick' NPC who keep trying to railroad us into following the plot. Yeah it's not that bad a plot, but the DM just repeats the same fucking basic quests OVER AND OVER but with new dungeons and towns.

Sorry to brag, guys, but my campaign was AWESOME. I mean, the first one was just a ton of puzzles and shit, which wasn't bad, but I wanted something more. I talked to the DM about it, and we worked out this fantastic campaign.

I'd fight off these GIGANTIC stone golems, climbing all over them, getting smacked around whenever I screwed up. It was tough, and he made some of them pretty hard to figure out, but it was still probably one of the most amazing campaigns I have ever been in.

I can't WAIT for the next campaign he runs; he's a fantastic GM.

Man, my GM has been really great in converting AFMBE to a Sci-Fi setting, makes me feel a little bad I don't roleplay more, but everyone sort of agreed that I'd be the guy who'd be doing most of the heavy combat and I should leave the roleplaying to the other guys.

Oh man, the one chick in our party pulled an amazing double cross on us. Normally I'd be pretty pissed when this sort of thing happens in games, but she did it really well, I guess I should have known something was up what with all the notes she and the GM kept passing to each other, but still, AWESOME campaign.

Maybe all you guys need is to change to another system or take a brake. Our DM used to run really quite mediocre games so we decided to part ways. A few years later he calls us out of the blue and wants to continue our game. Only me and the weeaboo fag (all he does is play ninjas, but I suppose he does add more depth to them than the average player would) show up. Fortunately the DM brought along a few of his friends including a hot redhead.

Anyway, he's improved his DM techniques so much that he can make even the most retarded story seem epic. I swear to god, in our last game, my character had been prematurely aged and the BBEG was a guy who was possessed by my evil twin after he replaced his missing arm with the dead twin's arm. I know it sounds retarded but it was actually pretty awesome.

Sure we had a few hiccups along the road like a new guy joining our group and trying to hog the spotlight but our DM resolved these issues. In the prequel we made a gay parody of the character and when we got back to playing the main game, the ninja weeaboo took over his character and made him somewhat bareable. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the DM would spend like half an hour describing scenes to us. Sure, it gave us a lot of detail but sometimes you just want to actually do something than participate in "Story Time!"

Anyway, I was thinking. Maybe you guys want to meet up and play a game sometime? Our stories usually turn out to be pretty gritty but I'm willing to try a fun storyline out if you guys want to give it a go.

Also, what's up with that one guy playing that female monk with the massive chest? I know he's a good roleplayer, but still that's a little creepy.

    Sucks to be you.

Our Mechwarrior RPG campaign is FUCKING AWESOME, though. We're playing a bunch of guerillas with a stolen Shadowhawk, fighting a corrupt governor.

The last fight, against a bunch of Goliaths, was intense as hell. We nearly lost our only 'Mech.

Well, there's only one trained Mechwarrior in the cell. The rest drive the recovery vehicle and provide anti-infantry and vehicle fire support. In game terms they're basically a Laser Infantry platoon and a couple of light Hovertanks. Most of the time we're only fighting light 'Mechs and vehicles though. It's mostly an on-foot affair.

My group is having a blast. The only problem is that our GM is slower than fucking Christmas.

That was actually kind of a surprise. The first session was basically a long ass scenery description and then a dungeon crawl with guns, but it actually got better. I really didn't expect plot twists in a dungeon, but Jesus Christ the traps...

Anyway, after that campaign ended we stopped playing for a while, then we got back together to play and see the world outside the dungeon, and that's fun too. Now if only the fucker could play more than once every couple of months.

There aren't a lot of people willing to RP around where I live, but my GM has managed to set up this amazing game with just me and another guy. The GM has made these AMAZING NPCs that really bring the world alive, and the setting is absolutely bonkers, but so much fun - I'm basically playing a Grim Reaper, but instead of some cliché WoD shit I'm actually employed as this travel agent in the mayan underworld or some shit. My mate plays some sort of giant demon mechanic, but he's more into building insane cars and boats and drinking and gambling than progressing the story.

Right now I'm trying to weed out a conspiracy at work where I think one of my coworkers (another reaper/travel agent) seems to be scamming the recently dead or something. The GM has hinted that there is some sort of crime boss involved, and by the amount of notes he brings to sessions I think he has stuff planned for several years.

Y'know I've fucking had it /tg/. I'm dming for a group and was wanting to make a deep, complicated story about another realm of magical warriors invading modernish day Earth. The first two PCs rolled fairly standard characters (one special forces, another a criminal) and the third tried something different with an actor. Then the fourth says he wants to play a monk. He wanted to play a fucking weeaboo monk in a modern setting. We had a bit of an argument about it but the other players convinced me to drop it. Then the last two players decide they want to play bloody ninjas with magic powers. I decide to revise the setting a bit and give all the PCs special powers to try and make things a bit more even (so the guys with the modern tech don't mow through everything while the monk and the ninjas just sit complaining they don't get to hit anything).

So we start the game and almost instantly a fight breaks out between two of the PC characters. I go along with it and it ends with one of the PCs violently dismembering the other."Well at least that's out of their system" I thought "now can continue with the story". Boy was I wrong. Every 5 minutes a fight breaks out between two of the PCs and it's hard as hell to try to make my story fit around that. In the end I just made it into a fighting competition because it became impossible to deal with their bickering otherwise.

I know of another group who are doing a kind of superhero thing and some of their stories sound pretty good. I was wondering if I should invite them along next time to show my group how roleplaying is meant to be done or should I just persevere with my current group?

we used to do a random dungeon every few months or so, just to relax from the story heavy campaign. anything gained in the random dungeon could be kept, anything lost was lost, dead was dead etc. but otherwise it was as if the dungeon had not happened.

I highly recommend this to groups that are burning out. Random dungeons tend to get exceedingly silly, and funny shit happens all the time. A good relief!

we had the pleasure of finding some lantern archons in one of them who stated "we are being of light and good!" and when we asked them why they were down here they responded "even though we are never lost, we do not know!".

shortly after we convinced them to enter a room full of vampire spawn and closed the door behind them till the racket died down.

A single vampire was left in the room, who was manhandled by my barbarian/champion of gwynharwyf (sp?) SAINT manhandled him into a pool with a giant squid in it.

My GM loves technology and philosophy, so he tried doing that for our campaign. Holy fuck. Some adventures through the city are like "Oh hey, side quest" but then he manages to tie them all up with the current adventure like you wouldn't believe. We had these awesome spider robots for a while, but the one player was giving one real oil and it kinda was fucking it up, so they had to be taken away. Thank god too, because at the climax of the first adventure was us being hunted by another government agency, and those spider robots seriously saved our asses in the end.

You know, my DM told us we would be running a political intrigue game and I kind of balked. I mean, he starts off with like this fucking NOVEL of backstory about how these two kingdoms were fighting for the throne, and how one guy put his toddler on the throne and crowned him king so he could be regent and stuff and how the other guy was trying to get his daughter on the throne.

But damn, then we get started and it's an awesome game about how we're trying to struggle against the class system (because one of our dudes was playing a commoner, the rest of us are nobles) and how he's getting revenge because his sister was murdered by one of our group NPC's as a part of a conspiracy. Then there are these fucking magic stones that turn people into beasts. So we have a political game running with a ton of boss battles for these stones. And now the group has been labeled as heretics and are being hunted by the church. It is WAY more awesome than it sounds, I have to give my DM credit.

My DM is a total fucking weeaboo. He started the campaign off with us in 1999 Japan. There was the typical tavern meet-up (cafe since this is CoC Modern), then we started crawling through dungeons. However, we've been fighting demons and ghosts and shit, which doesn't make sense. At one point the campaign took a very odd non sequitur as the DM's perfect Mary Sue DMPC tried to kill the female character that my buddy is playing, but some epic rolls helped us survive that. Eventually the DM got so pissed off that he had the US nuke Japan, but my buddy's female character had found a spell earlier that let us all teleport into some pocket dimension as the rest of the world got blown up. The DM has been trying to railroad us since then.

My DM's campaign is real fucked up. he told us that we're playing little girls, the villains are a shrine maiden and a witch, and it's in some stupid homebrew setting where everyone has the power to DBZ charge and fire huge energy blasts. If my DM wasn't such a thin little shit I'd punch him for forcing us to play this, but I'm afraid I'd shatter his pasty little skull. Maybe all that drinking he does is making him lose bone density.

Most of the guys (and these two girls, pretty hot, but flat as a fucking board) are pretty hardcore powergamers, so lately the DM's been introducing some new splatbooks that... well... I'm level 96, and I'm the weakest in the party.

The campaign is fucking warped too. I think our DM's been doing a few lines before we start playing, because I simply can't make this shit up. I'm still surprised he found a spot for my joke character, dood.

Our sci fi game started off pretty good. An alien force sweeping though the galaxy drunk off of a religion and wiping out humanity everywhere they found it. We were all infantry squadmates in the human military and we cooked up some pretty badass backgrounds and we all specialized in a certain element, so we would have awesome team dynamics and coherency. But every time a cool fight is about to happen, like the aliens bust out a big-ass walking tank thing, the DMPC shows up and one shots the thing. It was cool at first, but now he's doing it all the time. Now it's just getting irritating. He's taken all realism and challenge out of the game.

Last session had the DMPC fighting the BBEG in a big duel. The GM said we couldn't interfere but when I tried to help anyway he said I was taken hostage. The session ended with us escaping with the DMPC mortally wounded. I hope he fucking dies so that we can actually play instead of getting led around by the nose. It sucks the BBEG died too. He was actually interesting. I dunno what the GM is going to do with the campaign now that he has killed off almost every character.

My group's campaign started out great, simple but fun because it involved us story, great roleplayers. It was going great after we'd each had a session or two spotlighting our characters.

Then the DM introduced another campaign he had an idea for. We played that a few times, switching between it and the main game.

Then one of the players wanted to DM his own game, but had to expand the group. And another did the same later, expanding more. And so on.

So now we've got about 15 people involved in six games over four different systems and none of them have set schedules.

We've done nothing since a bit before Christmas.

Dear God you don't even want to know what my group is like. The GM is a fucknut. It's a CoC sort of thing with a little homebrew and it fucking preys on my mind for hours after we quit playing. There's this butcher thing with a huge metal mask that we've encountered fucking some of the other monsters that's untouchable, and so far our dungeons have been a dilapidated apartment complex and a hospital.

They're amazing campaigns but they're so confusing and terrible. It's kind of like RubyQuest only worse.

Our campaign has been pretty creepy. All sorts of wierd stuff has been happening, and jumping out at us when we least expect it. The GM keeps pretending its some kind of semi-sci-fi story and throws lots of clones soldiers and mechs and robots at us, and then will whip out the freaky shit when we least expect it.

Also, its somewhat frustrating, as every NPC ends up getting one-shotted by the BBEG, whom none of us can hurt. But for some weird reason the BBEG hasn't been killing us, even though she could do it trivially easily.

Guys...I'm not sure how to feel about my GM's current campaign.

First few sessions were pretty cool. Kind of using a Rifts-style rule set for some mecha combat. Thanks to one of our characters being a tactical whiz, we were able to take down a group that easily dwarfed us...except for some NPC in a custom mecha that nearly ripped our forces a new one.
So, there's a few sessions of this, leaving us pretty stoked...
Next thing we know, our characters are all going to school...
and I don't mean a military academy, I mean the GM's ruled all of our characters go to this fucking prep school...
and get this...that NPC rival? He goes there too...

I'm not sure I wanna know what this guy's got in store for the rest of the campaign...

I think your guy ran a mecha game for us once. Looking back, you could see the flaws in his game (most importantly: whatever homebrew he was using, it was lethal as FUCK) but goddamn did that game have heart. There was gore, badass old truckers, giant fucking robots with giant fucking guns, a love triangle (!) and an epic showdown with a tentacled thing from space.

My GM ran some great games a few years ago, then our group went our separate ways. We got back together recently, but it sucks now. He doesn't really prepare now, just pulls stuff out of his ass. What's worse, the crap he's throwing at as us now is ruining our good memories of the old campaign. Frankly, I think he's mainly interested in getting together for the free food and beer, even though he's got plenty of money.

So...I think my GM has it in for us.

OK. So he starts off this campaign, has us all go to join this army. Now, this army is HUGE. It's loaded with all sorts of different groups too. They're planning to overthrow the current control of the city. We're thinking this sounds pretty badass...
...then some fucking NPC kills the guy in charge...
    ...and blames it on us.

While this is going down, the city's guard show up and decide to crack down on the meeting. Now one of our party members is missing, and we're pretty sure he's dead, and the rest of us are now trying to just make it back to our own hideout while EVERY fucking NPC in the game seems to be out for our blood.

My GM is running a modern intrigue game where I, just some average Joe Blow, get this awesome artifact that can kill people. Good thing that we're super-pretentious roleplayers because otherwise, some low-brow jerk would be all "LOL I KILL THE GUY WHO DOESNT GIVE ME FREE ICECREAM". No, the GM just sees what I would do, and I set out to change the motherfucking WORLD in-game. He is very impressed, and has revealed to me THE SUPER SECRET pretty early on. I'm a bit dissapointed at that, I was supposed to figure that shit out.

Then shit gets intense. I try to kill off the BBEG, but he just-as-planned so damn hard(with pretty good excuses, so I didn't mind.) that I just killed a PROXY. I fucking love this game so much. However, I soon found out that the DM was talking with the BBEG. Yeah, he was a PLAYER ALL ALONG.

However, he didn't know that I was a player. The DM was running the game on a seperate IRC server. So, I ask the DM if I could spice things up by joining his group, and BBEG not realising that I am the guy and...

Holy mother of god it's too contrived to explain, but my game is AWESOME, has a SEETHING amount of surprisingly good meta, quality players(but one or two are a bit lolrandom sometimes).

You know what they said would never work? Taking a non-combat character into a soft sci-fi action adventure.

Turns out they were right. There's a fucking DMPC in this latest game I'm in who's ruining the plot. EVERY FIGHT is just an excuse for the DM to go "oh she's so brilliant the enemy just give up at the sight of her."

At least the first couple of encounters were nearly fair, but now it's just "LOL HERE'S A MILLION ENEMIES BUT OH LOOK THEY ALL SURRENDERED." FUCKING DMPC I WANT TO KILL HER

    >>3377968
You could easily do it with Mekton, or probably the Mechwarrior RPG (given most of the units in the show are 3025-era or thereabouts Battletech ones.)

It would just need a spot of balancing. One Shadowhawk, even with a 1/1 pilot, won't be able to reliably kill Goliaths and Battlemasters fielded a lance at a time, unless they all had 6/6 pilots or worse.

So we had two campaigns with the same characters. First campaign, the GM throws in a pacifist NPC to tag along with us, which was pretty irritating. Then in the second campaign he did the same fucking thing, only this time it was a fucking annoying cleric with some vow-of-not-killing-shit. I mean, it was cool having the heals and all, but still, the motherfucker was a total dickhead.

I think my GM spends too much time watching Doctor Who... I'll get to that in a moment.

To have some fun with Mutants and Masterminds we decide to go PL8. But somehow our GM got hold of some sort of random power chart and origin chart to boot.

Well, I end up being this Substitute Teacher who's the poster child for Asperger's or something. Then there was this whole brewhaha about being all addicted to books like it was crack or something... And don't get me started on the hangup regarding the glasses.

Anyways I digress, I think I managed to score some extra points from the random crap in my lap, because MOTHER OF GOD my powers are scary. I mean yeah, I can do all that Green Lantern crap, but with paper! PAPER! Holy hell I got ammo.

But here's where we get weird. Seems the first baddie I face is some bug mutant who controls other bugs as his power. After snatching this one book I seem to be enamored with at the time from me, I got buck wild. Snared him with paper like iron and took my stuff back. Then I Wil E. Coyote'd him into a building because his feaky grasshopper was going ape.

So, as I'm bewildered at the event, some odd James Bond wannabe walks up like he knows me right?

Here's the kicker. First he wants to see the book. I'm like no, because man, I need that for my requirements. But then he's all like "Then I must ask Agent Paper to come with me" and all of a sudden the GM plays the organizational ties drawback I took.

Seems like I'm a secret agent. Some sort of super libarian fighting clones of famous dead people.

Get this, My partners are some gun nut and a lesbo version of shadowcat. I swear she has the hots for my character.

But I digress. We're heading to DC to investigate some superhuman attack on the Library of Congress...

Would it be assuming too much this won't be as boring as I think?

MY CoC game has either gotten retarded or RETARDED AWESOME FUCK YEAH! I honestly can't tell which.

Okay, I may have garnered some hostility from the GM with how I handled my hand getting possessed, but I think he handled it pretty well. I admit replacing my hand with a chainsaw was a bit silly. But the other PC's were late arriving IRL, so I just had me and my sister playing, my sister didn't really like the game so the GM killed her off pretty early. He had her reanimated corpse follow try and kill me a few times though.

Man though, the other players got some really unlucky rolls, and GM was totally not pulling any punches that night.

So when we said the incantation, my severed (but still possessed) severed hand stabbed the PC playing the occultist professors daughter and I got sucked into a hole in time and space I figure that thats it TPK, game over.

I arrive next week to find my character stranded in the middle ages, and everyone else has to roll new characters. I hope the rest of the party don't think I'm giving the GM sexual favours or an HOLY FUCK HE WAS FORESHADOWING WHEN WE READ THE BOOK!

Holeeee fuck, I only just realised he had this set up from the beginning. Oh man my GM's AWESOME.

Okay, our GM has just started up a pretty action packed Mekton Z game.

Seems the party is a group of mercenary pilots in some organization that sends us off to the highest bidder for the corporations that rule the planet.

Seems the world has it in for us since our tech poisoned most of the habitable surface of Earth in radiation, leaving us and the corporations to fight for ever dwindling resources.

Also, it seems the organization has a ranking system, and the only way to go up is to defeat the next higest up.

Not to complain, I like detail, but MAN, our GM uses every rules option (even homebrew) to add to what we can use.

It's interesting and all, but sometimes things just devolve into an all-out brawl with each other that usually doesn't end well.

Particularly with the current DNPC we're having to deal with who has the most weeaboo wannabe wing zero mech I've ever heard of.

I used to think that my GM couldn't come up with any good ideas and had to resort to plagiarism. I mean, he didn't just pull the story concept from animated Disney movies, he ran us THROUGH them, with a race of monsters inserted to give us more enemies to fight. Looking back, He might have clued everyone else in on the plot, because two other players were Donald Duck and Goofy. When he DID use original content, it was pretty good. Toward the end of the campaign, I was turned into one of the monsters, but was brought back by my pseudo-love interest character.

After we defeated the BBEG, The GM ran us through the whole plot AGAIN, but this time he printed up cards for us to use during battle. That was frustrating enough, but at the end he puts our characters in stasis, so we have to reroll.

So now he's got us all with new characters in a new world, but for whatever reason, my new character keeps getting flashbacks of events from the last campaign...

So fed up with his fat bitch girlfriend constantly talking about that 'Twilight' crap. my GM said 'Fuck this, I'm going to run a V:tM game with real proper fucking vamps'. And holy fuck, it's been the best damn V:tM game I've ever been in. First session he starts it with some hokey embrace scene, and I was thinking 'oh god, it's going to be THAT kind of vamp game' but then guys burst through the doors, drag us out, and that city's Prince just ups and beheads the guy who sired us in front of a room filled with vampire elders. Then the prince offers us a choice between death or working for him. And so now we're in another city, working for these twin vampire sisters. One is an oversexed Malk and the other's a stick-up-her-ass Venture (at least I think that's what she is, the GM didn't say what clan she was for some reason.). Only problem is my GM sucks at doing voices, so both of them kind of sound the same...

So I figured I'd try to bait our new GM into raping my loli Sorceror on a game of 3.5. Rolled with it and now I have to go around capturing ethereal monsters to get my spells. I don't get how this works since now I'm supposed to put points into Negotiate, Intimidate, Bluff and whatnot because for some reason, we're not hitting the demons until they die don't work and talking to them does.

That and the party seems preoccupied with powerlevelling, tea and cakes and using a series of arcane devices to record every battle.

Our campaign actually started out pretty cool. Interesting characters around the table, engrossing environment... and suddenly the DM had major writers' block, or something, because our characters woke up the next morning with bloody circles on our heads that supposedly paralyzed us. The DM will probably find his muse again, but I worry about his health... he just gets so heated sometimes when discussing the rules.

I'm not sure what to think about the campaign my GM is running, /tg/. At first it seemed pretty standard fare, if a little GRIMDARK. "You're a prince from a shattered kingdom, your sister is a Holy Macguffin and an evil empire is trying to use her power to destroy the world." Then he kills me in the first fucking encounter. I'm not even kidding, he had me solo an entire fucking army.

That's when the GM throws in his twist on the setting. As my character is taking his last breath, he finds a captured dragon. Now, my character HATES dragons, it's in his backstory that his parents were killed by one, but the DM says that my dude's life will be saved if I tie my soul to this thing's, although he'll take a random ability from me if I do. Well, I'm not about to let my character get killed in the first fucking encounter, and a pet dragon has to make up for any ability he could take away, so I take the deal.

Suddenly my character jumps from level 1 to level 10, but he's spontaniously mute. Fucking mute. How the fuck am I supposed to do anything with the rest of the party now? Now that the others got off any better, one of our guys made the same deal with a goddamn fairy in exchange for his vision, and it bitches at him all the time. Worst deal /ever/.

Still, I've got my fingers crossed. If the GM doesn't drop the ball, this looks like it could get really interesting, although I'm still having trouble getting across anything other than 'smoldering rage' to my party...

I'm not sure about my current campaign to be honest...
It started off pretty good, we were fighters and we'd just won some huge battle, against this guy. Anyway, on the way back my DM gave two of our party members some bit of paper, but told them not to tell. Of course one of them told his girlfriend, who was playing his wife in game...
Next thing we know, there's been a murder, and the dude and his girlfriend keep having these long, tedious speeches. Then the other player, the one who also got the secret message, gets killed! To be honest I kinda zoned out by this time, but I'm fairly sure it was the guy and his gf...
Finally though the DM had enough of their bull-shittery after we complained about them hogging the sessions, and I got to kill him in a pretty epic duel at the end of the campaign

I dunno what to think about my DM, the monsters we fight are generic and weak, the dungeons are slightly uninspired and a little repetitive, and he makes us spend money to progress. But then we get to a fucking BBEG and it's the MOST GODDAMNED EPIC THING EVER. And we're all shouting and swearing and cleaving and smiting evil and ripping and tearing. And then it's over and we do it again.

I don't know how he does it.

The plot's incoherent and the DM keeps perving on me at every opportunity - first he decided that a loli cleric had a crush on my character, now he's got her sister (ALSO a cleric - almost everyone in our party is a cleric, and he knew it when he started - so of course the BBEGs are completely immune to cleric powers) putting her boobs on my head, BBEGs dangling their balls around, ANOTHER NPC trying to tentaclerape the party... GAH! I just want to HIT THINGS and AVENGE MY PARENTS, not field NPC perving and constant cuts to a DM self-insert character with an inflated sense of importance.

My GM's running an awesome AFMBE game using fast zombies. I don't typically like fast zombies but my GM made them awesome. They're pretty fragile even if they are fast in numerous so combat's a slaughterhouse, heh heh.

He even made some nasty boss zombies and really has a tendency to throw them out whenever someone wanders off alone like a retard. The way he designed them makes most of them GAME THE FUCK OVER if you've got no one to help.

The story's not much (he doesn't really even explain how we got to the different locations!) but it's real fun.

Sounds like you've been playing 4e D&D. Lemmie guess: level 9 plumber, encounter power "firebloom" which you can sustain as a minor action?

So this friend of mine wants to start his homegrown system and drags me into it. He tells me to come up with somebody unique, so I build this guy. He's a short Italian plumber from New York. Then I find out that it's in a magical kingdom, so we tweak him around so he has some Monk skills and he still works. The other guys make some pretty cool characters too. An elvish knight, a dinosaur, an intelligent ape with brawler skills and a vendetta against my character, and a little pink fluffball with an appetite, and an intelligent rat with electrical powers. But then the last two totally mess up the game system and bring in guys from outer space with high technology. One is an anthropomorphic fox with a blaster who can reflect any attack back, and the other is in full on power armor that can shoot plasma shots bigger than my character! Both of them seem pretty broken gameplaywise. The game has gotten seriously trippy to allow all this, but it's still pretty fun. There are so many magical items that they're practically falling from the sky or waiting for us in boxes, although we lose them just as fast. And he's foreshadowed four more characters coming in. Problem is there seems to be ANOTHER space case and I'm pretty sure one of these up and coming players has pretty much COMPLETELY copied my character idea.

He's promised us a real plot down the line and that scares me.

Eh, I prefer my AFMBE with more traditional zombies. I remember this awesome campaign set in a city, the GM got us to split up and everything still managed to make sense at the end.

I still think he gave his GF the easier route, SHE never had to deal with some sort of fucking bald bio-terminator chasing me everywhere.
Well, at she let me finish off the end-boss. One of the players ended up rolling up a little girl, dunno what that was all about.
I invited my girlfriend, but she only made it to a couple of sessions, so the GM just played her as an NPC most of the time.

But that's nothing compared to the awesome that was his next campaign, we all got to play mercenaries. Apart from his girlfriend who he let play her old character from our first campaign.

Guys, what should we do with our DM? He's ticking all the boxes for "huge faggot" at the moment.

My character's getting forced into a love affair with his DMPC, the plot is railroaded as fuck and he keeps killing off any remotely interesting NPCs.

Seriously, last session he let us do nothing for most of the evening, and then said "oh by the way the guy I mentioned in passing just then? He's the BBEG, roll initiative."

Said BBEG then owned us all and put one of our characters out the fight. I fucking rolled a 20 for perception when he said there was a suspicious guy in the cargo bay, and just got "he's a guy you don't recognise, but he seems legit."

How can I fuck with it?

Wait, I know the dude who plays said puffball. He's in my group and our DM is into old school wacky cartoon hijinks. Apparently some extremely dark force has conquered a planet with a crystal that keeps our galaxy in check.

OH FUCK NO we all; said and rolled up our characters. A friend of ours made a copy of the puffball but made him red with a pasty face and he's pretty handy with vehicles, while another one rolled up some kind of mage specializing in art. She keeps up all happy and healthy.

Then I notice the party is missing that little bit of extra muscle. BAMF! Enter the big bad penguin with a XBOX HUEG Hammer who claims he's a king. What I love about this game is that all the major encounters innovative. From reflecting electricity back at a trio of blocks to smashing down the hands of an equally xbox hueg super mech, Im just hoping we continue gaming in this crazy little universe our DM cooked up

Hey. I just had the most epic campaign ever. Think you've ever played a campaign more epic than this? You're lying to yourself. Read and be amazed.

It starts out like this: Me and a friend want to play a game, so we get looped into this homebrew system that basically a post-apocalyptic future but light on the nitty-gritty stuff. It also uses emotions as power instead of magic. Go figure.

We live underground in a community who believes that outside doesn't exist. My friend weaved this into his character by saying he and his dad visited outside for a moment, then his dad left and he went back underground. My character just had both his parents die in an earthquake that is apparently common. Me and my friend collaborate a bit and decide our characters should have some sort of weird relationship with each other, so we decide that his character is some sort of father figure for mine, yet we treat each other like brothers.

My character is a digger for the community and I spend all his gold on a fucking big-ass super drill and dump all my stats into speed and emotion, leaving nothing for tallness or penis-size. (My DM has a sense of humor when it comes to stats.). Basically I'm a whiny emo who can drill really fast but is as short as fuck and is compensating for his small penis.

My friend balances out his skills pretty nicely, although his main two are in charisma and bad-assery. (Very creative DM.) Despite his way with words, the player decides the be the village pain-in-the-ass who always gets my character into trouble.

My character also has some random tiny pig-thing pet that the DM insisted I should have because it would “help”. Eh, whatever.

I find a tiny glowing drill and a couple of girls insult my penis size. My friend makes some joke about me piercing their heavens. But then the awesome stuff happens!
    >> Anonymous 01/12/09(Mon)21:48 No.3386821
Right after this, my friend creates this convoluted scheme that involves him releasing a pack of big pig-things and having them crash into each other, thus breaking the laws of physics and flying upward. It works, or at least it did, right up until the part where one of the NPCs owns us and the pigs with a sheathed sword. I was about the accuse the DM about that making no sense at all when I realized that we just rode flying pigs. Yeah.

So my friend gets captured and his NPC friends abandon him at the threat of starvation. My character is let go because, apparently, my winy emo nature prevents me from being seen as a bad person.

Then there's a tiny earthquake or whatever and I make my character fake emotional distress because of his parent loss or whatever. I just want to get to the action.

My character then digs some more where he found the drill, even though he didn't really want to, but the DM promised treasure, so whatever. I ended up finding a giant glowing robot head. It was at that moment I realized this wasn't going to be your ordinary campaign. Not by a long shot.

So I break my friend out of jail and I'm going to show him this face before I mess with it when suddenly the NPC that cock-blocked us earlier shows up. My friend gets in an argument with him and then wham, another earthquake, but bigger.
    >> Anonymous 01/12/09(Mon)21:49 No.3386824
Suddenly OH MY FUCKING GOSH a giant robot falls from the ceiling! It's ugly, too. My friend takes the NPC's sword and challenges the fucking thing to a duel. He rolled a 1 on his “resist doing something bad-ass but stupid.” roll, one of the penalties of having high bad-assery.

So we're about to have this epic battle when there's a knock at the door. Our DM answers it and oh boy, oh joy, oh no, it's his girlfriend. She begins nagging about how he never spends any time with her and blah blah blah. To get her to shut up, he had her make a character with some clever smooth-talking. Enter big breasted plasma-rifle wielding female in a skimpy outfit. Believe it or not, only the second one was the DM's idea.

Also, please keep in mind that most of the awesome stuff she does from here on out is DM guided. Because we all know how girls can't roleplay, mirite?

So she jumps down from the the hole the robot made and starts shooting at the thing with her plasma rifle. Que weird part that is basically me leading my friend and the GM's girlfriend to the face while my friend makes constant in-character sexual advances towards the GM's girlfriend, although I wouldn't doubt it if he meant them for real.

When we all reach the face, my character turns it on with the tiny drill he found earlier and BAM, he has his own mini-robot.

Ensue an epic battle with the robot in which my character's robot grows drills, springs, etc. The thing tries to eat me, but my robot fucking grows a unicorn-drill thing and busts out. The thing attacks me, but because I grew even more fucking drills, I drill straight through the thing's arm and rocket propel it out of the underground. I fucking disintegrate the thing through me and my friend's combine emotional stats and some lucky rolls.

Then we fall down. SUDDENLY TWO MORE GIANT ROBOTS: FUCK.

The first campaign ended there. I'll update with the other campaigns as I get around to it. Peace out for now.

They're DOING IT WRONG, either that or I somehow sucked the DM's dick and mentally blocked it.

They've got grunt mecha with some customisation. I got given one costing over twice the CP of theirs.

But they also get NPC mooks to help them, so it balances out. If the guy with the artillery unit could get some MV bonuses to counteract the awful -1 WA on his main gun, we'd be in a lot better stead.

Apparently we're going to space now to get upgrades for our units. Shit will be SO CASH. Still need help for fucking with this DMPC romance, he hasn't got the point I don't care for his Mary-Sue nerd chick fantasies.
