today marks the end of scheduled maintenance—two guys with two weeks to kill and a few hundred hours later, we're finally [mostly] done.
page loads/image downloads should be dramatically faster. until we hit 1gbps, at least. to all of my wonderful and ungrateful users: "you're welcome."
(note: there are still a few other things i'll be working on so expect intermittent downtime)
ps: thanks so much to mvb for all of the help and support.

Hoo boy, someone just HAD to go and mention Tenchu. As a result I've been stuck watching my way through that damn game for the last hour or something.
Anyway, now that that's overwith, time to get rolling on this baby.

The store was out of Exorcists (aparently GW doesn't even sell them anymore. Or atleast it's direct only.) so I substituted it with a Sanctum Imperialis and an Immolator.

    So, 'ERE WE GO BOYZ!

Meh, I asked about the reason and aparently most of the Sisters range has become Direct-Only as it doesn't sell well.
The battlewagon idea was scrapped due to high probability of fail.
And no, I can't be assed to put on a shit to take a decent pic of myself placing obejcts on my head. Sorry.

Well, my usual sources of inspiration are the codices. Reading through them often gives me a few "Well this doesn't have a model yet, I could make one..." moments. Other sources are the internets ("Oh look someone failed horribly with a conversion. I bet I can do it better"), WD/Source Material ("Sweeeet pic. I could convert that.")
And sometimes it's just me leafing through a catalogue or walking around the LGS. Then some model just catches my eye and I think "What could I do with THIS one then?"
    >> Scriptarius 01/10/09(Sat)13:57 No.3366052

    Well, to each their own.
I've seen tanks caked with terrain and even terrain with tracks and guns, and I didn't like them either. That's why I now, instead of just slapping building walls on the tank, cut them up to make them fit better and look nicer.

none of the plates quite fit or line up right, apart from the forward corner isn't too terrible, but certainly wouldn't line up with the otherone; the images fill the lines so when you cut into it you tend to bork them =/ front corners aren't terrible.

this makes me want to go out now buy some landraiders and turn them into the BIG russes I plan for my armoured company, might get an imperial sanctum to pimp out my comand tanks aswell.
also what i think might look good is if you get some of the plastic from the blisters do it up like stained class and stick it in the windows on the side

My own mini of myself was based off Fabius Bile, but for a more WFB approach, you might want to try some of the Mordheim Witch Hunters, or possibly the High Elf Archers for a good coat without any 40k stuff on it.
Well most of the crap I put on my Raider didn't come close to fitting well so I shaved bits off both it and the tank chasis itself. I'm confident I can work around it.
Those big russes look damn cool IMO. THe same method also makes fine-ass Malchadors or whatever they were called.

Do ya need the keyboard/front plate?
I doubt I'll stick the Exorcist stuff on this Raider (I've grown fond of the Fleurdelys') but Emperor knows what I'll think of next.
Are there any cool Apoc-only Inquisitorial tanks or Imperial Armour Inquisitorial tanks?

Also Exorcistdude, whats the plan of getting them to me? Need a street adress for mailing or?
    >> Anonymous 01/11/09(Sun)08:35 No.3371516
Okay well what I have, is two organ stacks, and one organist chair which I've converted a flamer retributor to be the organist for; so really I'd want to grab the keyboard assembly as well as the sister if possible, because then I can have two completed exorcists, which will have two different organists so won't look too uniform.

Now, in Apoc, you can take anything, and I'd MASSIVELY recommend looking at the Stormlord. Baneblade variant with a vulcan megabolter as it's main gun (which I think would look cool as an organ pipe assemly), and can carry 40 troops, 20 of which can fire from the top, and all of which count as open topped for embark/disembark 14/13/11 av I beleive, but you can remove the sponsons for 14/14/11.

Want pictures of what the organist components look like?
    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)08:46 No.3371568
I can settle for the organ pipes and the decorative plates

As for Apoc tanks, pics are appreciated. I don't really give half an ass about stats as long at it looks awesome.

There's no model for it yet =/ will be released in March as I understand.

    http://chicagoterrainfactory.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/baneblade-005.jpg normal baneblade.

They're fun, and big, so lots to work with; I'd quite like to make a miniature chapel for my sisters, would be fun. In apoc you can use a rule called Holy Rage, which you declare if you will use before the first turn, or deployment or something. It means that all units with adepta sororitas rule gain RAGE AND RELENTLESS whilst they are outside your deployment zone.

So you could mount retributors on the stormlord, so they'd ignore rage, and they could fire even if it moved.

Hoo boy I really need to catch up on the Apoc rules.

By the way, last I checked, there were hardly ANY Apoc specialites for Inquisitorial armies (nor Grey Knights or Sisters). I recall a 4 assassin killteam rule and something about Orbital bombardments but that's it.
I care because this cathedraltanking is so much fun it might actually deter me away from my original plan of making an AdMech apoc army and derail it into an Inquisitor army

Ah, well the baneblade stuff isn't inquisition only, but it's fluffy that an inquisitor that was gonna take a landraider would be like: I'm having that baneblade!

Sadly Holy War for rage and relentless is the ONLY things sisters got; we still don't have anything of our own.

    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)09:10 No.3371647
Yes that's the problem with Inquisitor armies. IF you leave out the orders militant they become a bit bland. Which I find very strange.
Inquisitors are important enough to get 2 whole games based around them (well as much as you can say that about Dark Heresy) and several novels and great chunks of fluff revolve around them.
Yet for TT you only get 2 lord variants, 2 elite variants, daemonhosts, stormies and arbites.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/09(Sun)09:14 No.3371666
Chapel it up: I mean you've already got arches and what have you. I know I'm going to be sculpting statues and recasting them for when I make mine. 40 sistas in one box >=3

Sucks repentia can't ride in them. I might just cut off the swords of my 22 and give them chains so they can DRAG IT INTO BATTLE.

Glad you like sisters too though =3 they have my fave theme. Hate that people convert away the organs for exorcists, really suit the army. Though I've had to convert bolter sisters with helmets into melta sisters because it seemed strange that you'd have girls with massive welding guns not having any face protection.

I'm about to head out to the gym and grab dinner; if you throw an email to rubyquesttest on googlemail.com if you find out the exorcist guy does have the organist/chair on offer I'd really appreciate it.

    Back to Inquisitors then.
In my mind they contain some of the best GRIMDARK aesthetic of the lot. Religious Nazi Partyvan. The combination of Inquisi-bling and the SWAT-look of Stormies is just lovely. It's just too bad they are near-pointless without Sisters or Knights.

Ah, fair enough. Can't wait to see your Valkia when you get around to it.

I'm looking at making some light cavalry, for my Empire, and some sort of bodyguard unit on foot while I'm at it. 4 boxes of Pistolliers and a Militia box.

Militia bodies on Pistollier legs/mounts and Pistollier bodies on Militia legs. I just don't know what arms to go with. At first I was thinking of giving the cavalry the halberds you get with the Militia and then old school halberds for the foot slogging unit.

Sweet jesus. The way they're holding thier repeaters. I mean, wow, that's pretty cool for something so simple in essense.

Anyway, plastic greatswords sounds like a good plan. I'll have to count how many Militia greatswords I have. I know I have State Troop 2-handed swords as well but they are so...short.

I made some plastic Warrior Priests (among others) using the 8 Militiamen in the old Empire Battalion (I mean there was 8, what the hell kind of number is that?) as well as a few captains. I'll have to take pics, I'm reasonably proud of them, whether or not they took much skill.

Look! Stormies! STORIMIES! Our enemies field METAL MODELS! We... should convert... those METAL MODELS.

Right. To quote WD: "Converting doesn't always mean the final result has to look like death incarnate, be 3 feet tall and look nothing like the original model. Little alterations can make a big difference"

To me, the msot fundamental conversion is Kitbashing. Taking 2 or more boxsets and mixing the parts. There are different levels to this.
Take the Black Templar Crusader box and Devastator box. Make Templar Devastators
Take a box of High Elf Archers, Guardsmen and Wood elf Glade Guard. Make robed guardsmen
Take a Giant, a Stegadon and a Souldgrinder. Make a Shaggoth
Take a land raider and a cities of death building. See this thread
Take 2 carnosaurs, a Bloodthirster, a Chaos Dragon, Archaon, a Chaos terminator Lord, Abaddon and a Chaos Knight. Make a chaos lord on a Dragon
    See >>3366656

Kitrbashing is a good place to start converting. Take a unit you want to make, then look through some cool models from other sets, pick the parts you like about them and combine them to the unit you are making.
    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)12:49 No.3372926

Beginner - two similar kits of the same range
Intermadiate - two or more kits of different ranges but still modular with eachother

Expert - several unrelated kits alltogether requiring large armounts of trimming and refitting

A quick question on kitbashing if I may?

Do you have any experience bashing together plastic dragon ogres? What with the actual models being old, metal and expensive, I kinda want to try and force together cold ones (Saurus version), ogre bulls and (probably) chaos spawn, but get the feeling they'd end up far to topheavy, with spindly little legs. Do you have any advice on stopping them looking stupid, or different kits to get the same effect?
    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)13:06 No.3373034
Cold Ones (Dark Elf) + Black Orks
You need just a sliver of GS to fix the waist gap and they look brilliant.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/09(Sun)13:06 No.3373038
Where are the carnosaurs? Or are they providing superstructure on the back of the model?
    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)13:11 No.3373072
The heads and torso are 2 carnosaurs
The ass is the chaos dragon
The horns and wings the Bloodthirster
The rest went into the chaos lord
    >> Anonymous 01/11/09(Sun)13:13 No.3373081
Aren't the dark elf coldies even spindlier? And I presume there's some kind of head-swap involved? Although I suppose some gor heads (or at least horns put on the orcs) would work reasonably well
    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)13:18 No.3373106
As the black orks aren't as massive as ogres, the skinnier cold ones work too. Also the pose is far more dynamic. But that's just me talking.
Ork heads work perfectly well. Sculpt a nose on and slap some horns on the side of the helmet and it's good to go.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/09(Sun)13:28 No.3373184
They just seem so...tiny to me *citadel catalogue at hand for comparison*

I mean I see the idea, but the Ogres are still of Ogre proportions.

What if, still sticking to the Cold Ones (Lizardmen), the lower part is 'fattened' up. Instead of just putting the two hald together as normal, there is a reasonable gap filled with greenstuff and then Ironguts attached.

That would look proportional AND (if using Lizardmen) you waste less as it's 8 Cold Ones to 4 Ironguts, so just get two boxes of Ogres.

    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)14:06 No.3373410
Well feel free to try but I've had experience with ogres and I warn you, they are wide as fuck so the final result may look really silly.
Note that a plastic bull is about ½ times wider than a Dragon Gore torso, if not more.

Also, your tread guards are sticking out a little uncomfortably past the original parts of the tank, it looks a little odd. Uh, to clarify, I'm not speaking about the sides, I'm referring to where the edge is sitting over the treads, it goes out a bit far.
