  • "UPTIME IS THE GAME, DOWNTIME IS THE NAME"
today marks the end of scheduled maintenance—two guys with two weeks to kill and a few hundred hours later, we're finally [mostly] done.
page loads/image downloads should be dramatically faster. until we hit 1gbps, at least. to all of my wonderful and ungrateful users: "you're welcome."
(note: there are still a few other things i'll be working on so expect intermittent downtime)
ps: thanks so much to mvb for all of the help and support.

Hoo boy, someone just HAD to go and mention Tenchu. As a result I've been stuck watching my way through that damn game for the last hour or something.
Anyway, now that that's overwith, time to get rolling on this baby.

The store was out of Exorcists (aparently GW doesn't even sell them anymore. Or atleast it's direct only.) so I substituted it with a Sanctum Imperialis and an Immolator.

    So, 'ERE WE GO BOYZ!

Well, my usual sources of inspiration are the codices. Reading through them often gives me a few "Well this doesn't have a model yet, I could make one..." moments. Other sources are the internets ("Oh look someone failed horribly with a conversion. I bet I can do it better"), WD/Source Material ("Sweeeet pic. I could convert that.")
And sometimes it's just me leafing through a catalogue or walking around the LGS. Then some model just catches my eye and I think "What could I do with THIS one then?"

I've seen tanks caked with terrain and even terrain with tracks and guns, and I didn't like them either. That's why I now, instead of just slapping building walls on the tank, cut them up to make them fit better and look nicer.

Hell if there's any chance script would only wont the organ pipes, I could really do with the chair+organist. I have two sets of pipes, but only one chair (at the moment with a converted flamer retributor in). If I could get another chair and sister I could field two exorcists.

I already have the side parts (and could just copy the plates onto plasticard anyway)

    >> Anonymous 01/11/09(Sun)08:35 No.3371516
    >>3371492
Okay well what I have, is two organ stacks, and one organist chair which I've converted a flamer retributor to be the organist for; so really I'd want to grab the keyboard assembly as well as the sister if possible, because then I can have two completed exorcists, which will have two different organists so won't look too uniform.

Now, in Apoc, you can take anything, and I'd MASSIVELY recommend looking at the Stormlord. Baneblade variant with a vulcan megabolter as it's main gun (which I think would look cool as an organ pipe assemly), and can carry 40 troops, 20 of which can fire from the top, and all of which count as open topped for embark/disembark 14/13/11 av I beleive, but you can remove the sponsons for 14/14/11.

Want pictures of what the organist components look like?

    http://chicagoterrainfactory.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/baneblade-005.jpg normal baneblade.

They're fun, and big, so lots to work with; I'd quite like to make a miniature chapel for my sisters, would be fun. In apoc you can use a rule called Holy Rage, which you declare if you will use before the first turn, or deployment or something. It means that all units with adepta sororitas rule gain RAGE AND RELENTLESS whilst they are outside your deployment zone.

So you could mount retributors on the stormlord, so they'd ignore rage, and they could fire even if it moved.

Yes that's the problem with Inquisitor armies. IF you leave out the orders militant they become a bit bland. Which I find very strange.
Inquisitors are important enough to get 2 whole games based around them (well as much as you can say that about Dark Heresy) and several novels and great chunks of fluff revolve around them.
Yet for TT you only get 2 lord variants, 2 elite variants, daemonhosts, stormies and arbites.

Militia bodies on Pistollier legs/mounts and Pistollier bodies on Militia legs. I just don't know what arms to go with. At first I was thinking of giving the cavalry the halberds you get with the Militia and then old school halberds for the foot slogging unit.

Right. To quote WD: "Converting doesn't always mean the final result has to look like death incarnate, be 3 feet tall and look nothing like the original model. Little alterations can make a big difference"

To me, the msot fundamental conversion is Kitbashing. Taking 2 or more boxsets and mixing the parts. There are different levels to this.
    >Beginner
Take the Black Templar Crusader box and Devastator box. Make Templar Devastators
    >Intermediate
Take a box of High Elf Archers, Guardsmen and Wood elf Glade Guard. Make robed guardsmen
    >Advanced
Take a Giant, a Stegadon and a Souldgrinder. Make a Shaggoth
    >Expert
Take a land raider and a cities of death building. See this thread
    >Master
Take 2 carnosaurs, a Bloodthirster, a Chaos Dragon, Archaon, a Chaos terminator Lord, Abaddon and a Chaos Knight. Make a chaos lord on a Dragon
    >God
    See >>3366656

Kitrbashing is a good place to start converting. Take a unit you want to make, then look through some cool models from other sets, pick the parts you like about them and combine them to the unit you are making.

A quick question on kitbashing if I may?

Do you have any experience bashing together plastic dragon ogres? What with the actual models being old, metal and expensive, I kinda want to try and force together cold ones (Saurus version), ogre bulls and (probably) chaos spawn, but get the feeling they'd end up far to topheavy, with spindly little legs. Do you have any advice on stopping them looking stupid, or different kits to get the same effect?

Aren't the dark elf coldies even spindlier? And I presume there's some kind of head-swap involved? Although I suppose some gor heads (or at least horns put on the orcs) would work reasonably well
    >> Scriptarius 01/11/09(Sun)13:18 No.3373106
    >>3373081
As the black orks aren't as massive as ogres, the skinnier cold ones work too. Also the pose is far more dynamic. But that's just me talking.
Ork heads work perfectly well. Sculpt a nose on and slap some horns on the side of the helmet and it's good to go.
    >> Anonymous 01/11/09(Sun)13:28 No.3373184
    >>3373106
They just seem so...tiny to me *citadel catalogue at hand for comparison*

I mean I see the idea, but the Ogres are still of Ogre proportions.

What if, still sticking to the Cold Ones (Lizardmen), the lower part is 'fattened' up. Instead of just putting the two hald together as normal, there is a reasonable gap filled with greenstuff and then Ironguts attached.

That would look proportional AND (if using Lizardmen) you waste less as it's 8 Cold Ones to 4 Ironguts, so just get two boxes of Ogres.

Well feel free to try but I've had experience with ogres and I warn you, they are wide as fuck so the final result may look really silly.
Note that a plastic bull is about ½ times wider than a Dragon Gore torso, if not more.

Well I'll be, so it is.

    Worth a shot though.

Needs a prayer altar over on the left.

    MINI TANK CHURCH FUCK YEA

Also, your tread guards are sticking out a little uncomfortably past the original parts of the tank, it looks a little odd. Uh, to clarify, I'm not speaking about the sides, I'm referring to where the edge is sitting over the treads, it goes out a bit far.

Yeah I worred about thast track guard problem too but the thing it I can't shorten them without messing the whole things up pretty much
The interior might indeed benefit from an altar or similar

I have a russ based on a Land Raider frame, sadly it has a crap paint job and the picture I have is just as crappy. But it's impressive on the table top, command tank for my AC.

Oh god, nothing like that, this was 7~ years ago, when the raider kit first came out, and I was young and just getting into more advanced conversions. Just sawed the turret ring off the russ, affixed it smoothly to the top, beefed up the turret, and did some other things to it. Would do something closer to that now though.

It's the big blue blob in the back row... I have since upgraded the pain job vastly since then... Don't ask, I was young and found a deal on ultramarine blue...

It'd be cooler if it was backwards. would look more Lemany
Strangely, that also fits the lemans themselves.
