The door makes a soft "click" as Ruby fits the LETTER OPENER in the pupil of the eye painting. Maybe it's unlocked.

She doesn't remember if that handle had been there before or not.

Uh... the door might open quite violently, judging from the stain. Better be careful, and have Tom ready to close the hatch when Ruby's crawled through VERY quickly, in case the eyes on the other side of the door belong to Pyramid Head.

I cast my vote for not knowing WTF to do. If you open it, you could be dead. If you go to try and do something else, that thing could be roaming free.

    WTF TO DO?

We could offer it the chest as a peace offering?

Approach A: Ram her shoulder into the door, applying pressure to it, then open the door very slowly. If she feels pressure coming from it from the other side, push it back. This is so she can rebuke it if someone's trying to get through.
Approach B: Stand with her back against the wall opposite the bloodstained wall, twist the doorknob, and pull it open a little. This is because if the door opens inward with enough force, it will smash her into that bloodstained wall, explaining why there's blood on it.

    Which will it be?

Examine the pipe. What's that blue thing on it? Knocking on it, how does it sound?

Examine the red thing on the wall. Is it graffiti or is it some sticky liquid-ish substance? Is it blood?

Examine the locker in the middle of the room. It's locked right? If it is, see if there's any obvious mechanism as to what would open it. Is it possible to lockpick it in any way?

Also would be nice to have a rough layout of where this current room would be situated in regards to the former room, the one with Tom in it. A map from above just to see how the rooms are located relative to each other, as best as Ruby can tell from crawling through the hatch?

    Thank you.

Why? We were locked up too.

    >Why is Tom IN the cell? why are you here? we didn't ask tom anything because he wasn't talking to us earlier
Actually in the first thread we asked him a bunch of things, and he said he just woke up in the cell with no idea how he got there (just like Ruby woke up in her much smaller cell/locker), and that he hadn't seen anyone and didn't know anything about where they are.

It seems unlikely, but consider that Ruby's story sounds just as unlikely.

Tom might press button 4 if we don't help him.

Was there a very good reason RUBY was imprisoned and quarantined?

Let's set up a barricade just in case, guys.

Tom really wants to come out.
Tom says he's scared and he's trapped.
Tom asks Ruby to please let him out now.

Oh come ON! Tom has given us NO REASON to distrust him, he's been giving items up on request, and he fucking SAVED RUBY'S LIFE. That should count for something.
And now we won't even let him out of his deathtrap of a jail cell?!

You people are falling prey to the paranoia!

The wall between is only metal grating. If the water is pumped into the room, it won't matter to the subject of letting Tom out.

Isn't the letter opener currently stuck in the eye that's in the z-hatch room?
