Hello /tg/. ITT: What are the most fucked up monsters you've faced/created? And what happened when the party faced said monster?

Since there've been so darn few drawthreads lately, I'll try to draw awesome monsters from stories in this thread (pic related)

My DM basically used a Grue in the last campaign we did. It followed us everywhere and if we ever went into a dark place, it ripped us to shreds and spat us back out with one HP left, laughing.

Strangely enough it did keep us pretty terrified. Sometimes the scariest things are what you don't see.

Ignoring the usual horseshit you get in the monster manuals, one DM misunderstood the CR rules for CR 1/* creatures, and stuck our level 7 party against what seemed to be an ordinary toad, with a weird aura of menace.

Come to find out after it wipes the floor with us, he shoved the Paragon template onto it.

An ooze, that is made of misplaced internal organs, eyeballs, fingers and shit wrapped in ambulant mucus. But when it kills a creature, it can process the flesh to Change Shape into the creature it killed. It can't Change Shape whenever it wants, but it can do it if it kills something, and gains some small measure of intelligence (like 8) and sentience. If the human body is killed, it just dissolves back into the ooze form and tries to gtfo.

    Oh god, the stories...

We have one friend who GM's fairly often. His games are almost always universally fucked up horror romps--which sounds boring, but he ALWAYS manages to find a way to horrify us. I don't know how the hell he does it, honestly.

The one that tends to stick out in my mind the most is his 3.5 game. Set in the Shuddering Valley, a sort of backwoods place that had a lot of deep, dark parts that no one went to--but we, being the PC's, were the kind to do so. Didn't help our town had been burnt down by beastmen raiders, but anyway...

After killing the insane Lord of the Forest, Oberron, we set out to find what happened to his queen, Titania. After a lengthy trip, we entered her midnight realm, and found her in short order. I'll try and paraphrase the GM's description as best I can:

"The inky blackness receeds, after a time, as a woman's voice beckons for you. Before you sits the mad queen, Titania, upon her throne of briar woods and vines.

"She is abnormally tall, and curvy but not overtly so, her skin a faint, faded blueish-white; she is nude, and writhing. The upgrowth of half-dead plants she sits upon are curved and coiled around her wriggling form, pinpricks of thorns digging into her skin and sliding into her lower orifices--something she seems to take great pleasure from, by the soft whimpers and occasional grunt pushing past plump lips.

"She turns to you finally, with eyes devoid of anything resembling humanity as you know it, and croons softly: 'And what have you come here for, children? Mm?' "

I cannot possibly do this man's description proper justice, but we were shitting bricks and literally COULD NOT speak for a couple of minutes--in and out of character.

We lost a lot of NPC's and one PC to the battle that followed. We were only about level 7 at the time.

I used a spirit of murder in a world of darkness game. The creature itself took the form of a shriveled old man who was hunched over and unable to support his own weight. Its neck was pierced by a large golden ring which connected the creature to a floating knife attached to the ring by a silver chain. Rather than moving around on its own volition, the knife would tug the creature around as it constantly stabbed the air in search of new victims. The "old man" simply groaned in pain as it was dragged along.

He threw a lot of material like that at us. Wasn't until later that I figured out the references, the bastard.

To share with a few other things from this horrifying man: he ran a Changeling game earlier this year. We were to play kids, no older than 16, preferably younger than that. We found ourselves in 'Closet Land,' a cut-off portion of the Hedge that was in itself a separate realm all it's own. It was a strange sort of town, filled with buildings and various key locations but almost wholly devoid of life--except for the 7 Deadly Sins and their physical personifications.

But the creature one player met wasn't one of them; no, he was a True Fae, a hunter looking for the one who created this place and became trapped. Located under the sewers, which themselves had a very spacially confusing aspect to them; drop a brick down a manhole, and one down the road showed said brick falling down in the exact same spot.

This...thing, was a partially rotting corpse, hanging from chains and impaled on a guillotine inside a room filled with clocks. Tick-tocking to seperate times, some slower, some faster, the sound near-on deafening in so small a room.

When it spoke, it did so in a slow, deep, halting tone that often stuttered with the movements of the clock it was speaking from--which changed with each sentence, mind. It didn't really care about us, but had a mission it had to perform and, as a reward for freeing it, we were allowed to name one target for it's hound dog to kill.

We chose Wrath. Because she was a cunt.

Huh. I guess my last post didn't go through.

Anyway, in a V:tM game I had a Vozhd ghoul built in such a way that it looked like a semi-truck from the outside. It could hold its breath for a long time, and its breathing was disguised as the whoosh of the air tanks releasing pressure. The sides of the trailer were armor plating, which it could raise up to reveal an awful lot of varying nasty appendages with anything from "wrecking ball"-esque flails to a fuckuva lotta guns. It had eyes all over, but usually only used the ones behind the grill and kept the others closed to avoid detection. The tortured screams of its psychotic mind were linked into the horn for some semblance of expression. The diesel engine was intact, of course; it just had a special muscle designated to work the throttle. The trailer had one of those refrigerator hookups to keep the "body" cooled, which turned out to be its weakness. It ambushed the group in a truck stop one night, and after a long car chase and very destructive fight in which PC lives were lost, the coolant system was destroyed and the poor beast overheated from all the exertion. That encounter made a lasting impression on the group.

Rare is it that I have anything worthwhile for a story created on my own, but when its a horror/creepy thread, I've usually got some to share. Such as this, a scene played out online between myself and a friend; said character had been slowly going insane, due to a malignant creature from the Far Realm inhabiting his mind. Zelly ended up entering Toho's brain, and was thus greeted with this image:

"As she drew closer, the source of the light was...undetectable, seemingly shining down from some hole just above the central feature of this place. It took a moment, but she could see it clearly now; a figure, bound by chains to a set of planks that were themselves nailed to a post. Only the upper half of the body was seen; the rest, disappeared into the mass of glass and reflections. Shadowy, ethereal purple hands rose up from around the waist area, clawing and grabbing and dragging down bits of the monkey's flesh and essence. Arms wide apart, rusty iron nails shot through the wrist to further pin him there, head bowed and hair over face.

The top of his scalp was missing, the rounded part of the skull just above the brain, exposing glistening grey matter to light...and to a set of claws. The figure behind him had been hard to notice, black as it was, but a glint of bloodstained teeth showed it finally. Like Toho, but not; a shadowy and mad reflection, mouth set in a permanent rictus grin and eyes tinted a piss-dull yellow. Hissing with strange glee, it reached in and took a chunk of the man's brain...and promptly ate it. And from the looks of it, he'd been dining for a while now."

Right now, he's not running anything, but he's got a D&D game idea floating around. Evil goblinoids who are now rather...well, DEAD. Supposedly lighthearted and a bit tongue-in-cheek. Another is a Hunter: The Vigil game that will apparently involve Prometheans, even allowing a player or two to play as one.

Anyway. Let's have some more stories, hm?
    >> Anonymous 11/08/08(Sat)23:33 No.2964084
    A long story to follow.

The worst thing I've ever put my players through wasn't really a monster by the conventional means. They were exploring an extraplanar dimension of healing that was terribly influenced by an outside source of chaos (one might as well call it the Chaos of Warhammer for all that it was). Well, the players are purposefully investigating the basement area of this house, the area most tinged with chaotic energies. It is there that 4 men were imprisoned, each too dangerous to be healed by the places conventional means. These men, left to their own devices, did many things in those years.

The players found these things. But I'll cut to the good part. They go to a door, knowing that there's a powerful and dark emanation behind it. They throw the door open and are greeted by a curtain of darkness that their lights dare not touch. And so, the players, one by one, brave the darkness and step inside.

They find themselves quickly separated and displaced, a wide area of dark stretching between each of them that elongates till they're no longer within sight of one another. Thus separated, I explain to each what they see. To the first, they are in an empty city street, though everything is bathed in an unworldly blue light. The houses are barred, their windows sealed. Yet there is one building that looks to be open.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/08(Sat)23:40 No.2964106
To the next player, he finds himself in a house, with aged walls and a strong and strange smell in the air. The unworldly light emanates here as well, and with all others. In front of him sits a man, before a wooden desk, who has his hands folded in front of him patiently. He sits down, and his cloak covers his head. Around him, from the ceiling, dangle various objects. Herbs and roots, carefully prepared, are there, but there are also more dubious things, like the corpses of small vermin.

The third player finds himself in a clearing in a forest, beside a large lake. He knows he has been here for some time, and he feels too hot. He thirsts, and the lake water looks so very cool.

The final player lies in a room most queer. For it is built as if for a giant. He finds himself dwarfed by massive furniture. The most prominent object is a bed the size of a mountain. And so, the player begins his long climb.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/08(Sat)23:41 No.2964110
The next moments are done rapid fire, player by player, as they explore their bizarre environs. Felix, our first player, moves towards the open building, finding that it's a weapon store. With guns. Guns, so many guns, bright, shining, beautiful guns. The second player, Annette, touches one of the dangling objects near her and watches as it crumbles to dust. Third, Mormacar, begins to walk towards the lake, drinking deeply, but feels the need to go further. That the answer is down, in there. And it is so very hot. The last, Brock, begins his climb, and fore long finds himself at the peak. The sheets spread out before him like a great blue-white plain. But hanging above him, hundreds, thousands of them. Nooses! Ropes bound into tight circles, each appropriately sized, just for him.

Now, the players think things. Or rather, I tell them to think things. Felix finds the gun to be rather magnificent. He should have it. The store owner, not in sight, seems not to mind, and so he grasps it. Stepping out into the streets, some horrid thing creeps out of the alley, and Felix blasts it away with his gun! This wondrous thing! A fervor begins to build. The monster creeps back down into the darkness, where it belongs. My, what a wondrous thing!
    >> Anonymous 11/08/08(Sat)23:42 No.2964113
Annette continues to probe the area, ducking the off-green dust as it floats, reaching towards her. She moves and shakes the man's shoulder, but he too slowly begins to turn to dust. She begins to panic, but finds that the smell has become sweet. Like that of a wonderful flower.

Mormacar moves further into the lake, submerges himself. It's wonderful there. He feels calm, at peace. He swims, deeper, deeper, and he feels right. Like this is what's supposed to happen.

And Brock edges towards those nooses. He wonders, just what would it feel like? To place his head inside that rope noose, to hang himself? It has been such a long, awful road. He's gone through so much. Perhaps it was time just to end it all.

    End it all.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/08(Sat)23:42 No.2964117
Drowning. Poison. Hanging. Gunshot. 4 ways to commit suicide! Felix begins to catch on. The compulsions of the gun grow stronger. He should shoot it again! But where? Where, what was there to shoot? Ah, himself, of course! Yes, just stick that beautiful gleaming barrel down his disgusting throat, squeeze that elegant trigger, and accept that blazing bullet!

The dust! Which once seemed to smell so bitter, so awful, now has a wonderful scent! Annette drags her hand against the objects around her and they too turn to dust! And she breathes deep of that beautiful, choking mist.

Air begins to leave Mormacars lungs, but a warm pall falls over his mind. This is alright, this is what should happen.

And the nooses begin to wrap Brock in a calm, loving embrace. And he starts to walk off of the edge of that cliff.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/08(Sat)23:43 No.2964122
That's my most awful, terrible, horrific creation. I made a monster of a man, a powerful undead spirit that hated and despaired it's own life so much that it took it's own life and then encouraged others to do the same. And those men and women, they followed in his dreams, in his footsteps, through his own twisted view of reality, and underwent the same trials.

The players awoke to find themselves in a room, unspectacular in all aspects, save for two things. Hanging above the bed was a man they never knew, with a key to the next area. And on the floor was Annette, a look trapped on her face that was at once both calm and horrified.

    Sanity loss ensued.

    So Annette lost the game?

I feel not quite so scary by comparison.

My current DnD party is getting subjected to my Lovecraftian... love. The big bad is an atropal, who itself was once a god but was struck down by the other gods due to its sheer malevolence.

On the way to go assault some orc camp they get drawn into a cave. An occultic cave with lots of runes speaking about the creation of the world. Then the runes get up off the floor, utilizing words to assault people. The descriptions manifest in some form or another, such as if one of the engraving-people says 'cold' in their tongue the target gets hit by a bone chilling gust of wind. But the nastier part is that one of the party members, a rogue, gets impregnated with the atropal. So what they thought was going to be a Vikings vs Orcs campaign turned out to be a hay, let's stop the imminent rebirth of a horrible horrible god.

The now pregnant thief burns the orc town to the ground and they head back to camp. There she gives birth to a horribly disfigured undead god fetus, what with it being an atropal and all, after the camp's leader turns out to be a cultist and basically forces a birth. It then drags them into its own pocket dimension where they have to abort the bastard.

The abortion didn't work perfectly though, but it did stunt its growth.

Also, they just got hit with the King in Yellow play. Except the actor playing the King in Yellow turned out to be a mass of mind controlling worms wrapped in yellow robes with a bag for a 'head'. It popped out an arcane orb and spewed out the worms into the audience, forcing them to look at the atropal and the realms beyond realms, turning them into white eyed screaming zombies. Fun stuff.

    No, but I did.

Err, that is to say, yes. Annette gave in and did, indeed, commit suicide.

Last villain my group faced was a Daemon Prince summoned up from the Realm of Chaos by a corrupted Sigmarite priest who was convinced that the Daemon Prince was his true father. After infecting the entire town with a virulent disease and sacrificing his own son (on the players who lost his last fate point) atop a mound of the rotting dead. From this veritable corpse pyre a thing neither living nor dead, yet moulded from the rotting carcasses of the townsfolk, rose. Skeletal hands wrapped around putrified meat to form what could only be described as a monument to decay. With a voice as the dying whispers of the damned, it reached out to the Cultists and proclaimed 'Son.'

We ended up crushing it underneath the Church Bell.

Can't you fags make something scary instead of just doing your /d/ fetishes in game?

I devised a clever way to avoid sanity/wis loss in elder evil/lovecraft fags campaigns...

Playing an utter moron. with the bare minimum intelligence to have the most basic of thought. Mind bending horror doesn't work when your mind simply doesn't care.

"The cargo doors to the missile silo open and you see within a column of corpse-white flesh. All over it are open sores that occasionally ooze a substance similar to blood, which proceeds to fall upwards as it exits the wound. For those of you without an environmentally sealed suit of armor, the air seems to be torn out of your lungs and you begin to feel fatigued."

    After combat began:

"One of your comrades is grappled by a tentacle and is brought towards the thing. A seam which evolves into a tear rips down the thing vertically, and it spasms as it rips itself open. Within you see an impossibly large cavern filled with the screaming corpses of thousands supremely unfortunate beings, the eldest as pale and sore and shapeless as the thing itself. All of them cry out in pain that would be inconceivable in this universe. You feel that hell itself would be as tender and loving as your mother's womb in comparison to the thing's interior dimensional distortion."

One time I had a campaign that took place mostly in a city. The PCs were basically police officers trying to find out about this new drug: 'Beauty' that was hitting the streets and causing lots of trouble.

The drug ate the minds and bodies of the addicts (supermeth!) and eventually lead them to become horrible violent walking gel people, all necrotized flesh, looking like horrible living black plauge victems. They werent mindless, they were just really dumb and slow but they needed their fix! (Slow, horrible, sad drunks)

Only they werent tough to fight. The level one party could easily kill them in one shot, they just shlorped to the ground horribly when struck.

    TURNS OUT:
That the drug was being released by a cult of Jubilex (Demon lord of filth / slimes / etc) and that everyone who died after being addicted to the drug (enough to become all horrible) added to the lord's growing form, underneath the city.
