4 Space Marine chapters is 4000 or so Space Marines. 50,000 World Eaters for them to go up against. So the Space Marines alone ain't gonna win that one, thus the titans and Imperial Guard regiments. Assuming 5,000 guardsmen per regiment, that's 300,000 guardsmen. Now, the Imperium has to kill off every single world eater, not to mention the daemons, Angron, his bloodthirsters, and all the other forces of chaos following in his wake. They have to attack and then cleanse every world they reclaim, then guard it while the rest of the force moves on.

In reality, the Imperium would need far more men than listed. One can only assume that PDF were aiding this effort and not counted as part of the Imperial Guard. Also assume that Angron's forces took significant losses in conquering that area in the first place.

Does this help you get a better idea of what's going on here?

There's nothing saying what happened to him during this conflict, but we can assume that he was killed off or retreated back to the warp at some point during the closing stages of teh conflict. Also, there's not any reason that daemons would rely on Angron's presence to stay stable.
