Seriously, great game and all, but get the fuck out.

Some handwavium that can only be found near a underground vulcano underneath the Southpole.

First they have to deal with ice age animals near entrances and then they will face dinosaurs inside that evolved for 65 million years.
(Don't overcomplicate shizzle with reptiloids, their buildings are long gone and they themselves are off to the stars.)
Just think of an incredibly nasty ecosystem with little in the form of light (light emitting moss), and a 65 million year long weapon race of the local fauna.

AND DON'T blow up the vulcano in the end. It's... overdone. And not that spectacular.

Have this guy turn up all crazy and ranting. Or just have cults latch onto his writing and he needs protecting.

Either way his writing actually turns out to be linked to ancient evils of Atlantean or Lemurian(or Mu) origin that are now awakening.

And add !caramba!, an Amazon revolutione! Ole! in some Brazil-clone.

Additional bonuspoints if you fuse this Brazil with the Naziplot... as in The Boys From Brazil.
