So /tg/ I question you, what kind of games have you always wanted to run / always wanted to play in but never have.

Behold here is a thread for it.
    >> Anonymous 08/12/08(Tue)00:14 No.2326723
I've always wanted to play out a game of perfect balance between good and evil, well run it actually. This balance would be subtly woven through the mythology of the setting, that good and evil always have even scales. The players would do their thing slaughtering goblin tribes and bigger evils until they began to pick up on something, more aggressiveness on the part of the baddies, baddies sacrificing other baddies. No children being born unto the evil races.

The as the player leveled good things would begin to die.

Some would call it a plague, the others the wrath of the gods.

And soon even the arch prelates and high arcanists would give their lives to the players fervor to spare cities and towns the loss of life to maintain the balance.

Because there are only so many HD alotted to each side: as evil grows it has been hording its HD prevent children fro being born not imbuing its favor upon others letting them die... as it has a chosen vessel among the children of men, the neutral race, and in the end it imbues him with almost all of its power, making him an avatar, nigh invicible.

What can they do to stop him?

To balance him out heroic sacrifice is needed.

Then it would just be an eternal clash of the titans struggle.

Otherwise he will lay waste until there are too few for the god of good to make do with: then evil wins.

He has forged for his own works a team of the most terrible of toys, science and magic can create! You are one of these toys to help in his nefarious schemes!

I've wanted to run a superheroe's egyptian god themed game for a while. The first adventure is the unpowered players as part of a dig team excavating the tomb, going by traps etc. In the bottom they find a sealed box which gets open, randomly deal out 3x5's with egyptian gods names on it and listed powers, they are now bound to that god. A few NPC's that make it along with them will get cards too.

    Set being a bad guy.

Quests now have to deal with egyptian mythology and egyptian event type deals.

as game progresses eventually come into conflict with other religions deities, Norse Gods, Babylonian gods and at the end the Christian Jesus, who has had them imprisoned (see how moses rocked the egyptians? 1 god vs no gods...)

    2. You wake up in a sterile gray room. A cold metal operating table underneath you, your arms bound by fabric bands. You ca hear the soft sounds of medical machinery, the chorus of beeps and whistles and steady drips that mark a patient under heavy observation. Your memory is fuzzy, all you have is a name. Your name, and you know you have to get out of here.

An exalted game where all the players a mortals conscripted into a dragonblooded army. At one point they get cut off and have a run in with anathema, a solar exalt. The solar sends the players on a succession of minor quests, all the while reminding them what he can do to them if they betray him, and what the dragonblooded will do if they find out the players have been helping anathema.

a campaign where my players play sentient undead beings in a post-apoc fantasy world. They live in a graveyard near a river bay that empties to the ocean on the far side of the continent, away from any surviving race's capitals. One day a human child washes up from the river and wanders into their graveyard, only to be attacked by the mindless undead there. Out of some remaining strand of humanity, the PC's save the child and decide to escort him/her up the river to the human settlement, which is on the opposite side of the continent, while fending off both other undead (which the child would attract) and the living (cause the other surviving races aren't just going to let a party of undead prance into their lands.)

Turns out the kid is the heir to the throne or something, and the last boss would be some badass crusader (just something heavy anti-undead) type who was trying to usurp the throne.
    >> Anonymous 08/12/08(Tue)00:27 No.2326810
    4. You and the other ‘bo’s found something special down by the river. Something that you’d best not show to anyone. You found Mary, you know, the mother o’ Jesus? She’s sleepin’ but she’s gonna bring us some good luck. Some good luck indeed.

    ('mary' is a comatose alien)

hobo's with psychic powers because of proximity...
    >> hiddenkrypt 08/12/08(Tue)00:31 No.2326832
You and the other players discover that you have been sharing dreams. Not only are the dreams similar, but they are truly shared; all the players can interact with each other through dreams. there are other people here too, people from all over the world. At first it's a fun and strange psychic phenomena, at least until one person in the dreamworld starts killing the others one by one...

    3. You wake up in the muck and grime of a sewer drain. You head pounds and your skin feels like it is on fire. You appearance horrific, you and the other with you are the rejects of government experimentation gone wrong. They thought you were dead. They were wrong.

    monsterously modern.

One that begins when an old wizened man enters your town and falls to the floor in one of the PC's presence eyes filmed over spittle dribbling down his chin the sage manages to mutter, in that wheezy voice of ancient wisdom:

Death is coming to your race
Death is grinning with your face
    Death is setting lockstep pace
Death is coming: Seek the grace

    and then he dies.

    Awesome.

Are these coming from a list somewhere? half of them have numbers but they're all out of order...

Some of them are coming from a list I've comiled of games I would like to run sometime that I will use on my players, when time is coming up for a game I can just group e-mail a bunch of 'game lead-ins' and let everyone decide what they'd like to play.

Some have been more elaborated on than others.

And I'm hoping to mine more to add to the list that aren't my own for longer term preparation.

    I'm never without a game.

    Another Superhero game concept.

You were all invited to the first presentation of its kind, there would be scientists, reporters dignitaries. Today a superstring would be made visible. For once and all proving tht there was a greater force a unifying factor to all energy and matter. But something went wrong in the midst of the experiment, such powqer and magnitude was released that the string fractured, imbuing its energy into a few of the audience ans the lab was destroyed. Nearby aliens have noticed this odd radiation and have come to collect.
    >> Anonymous 08/12/08(Tue)00:44 No.2326940
    Another game idea.

Each of the payers is an elemental or energy spirit. A long standing guardian from a certain age. Together they are called only in hours of the direst of needs, as these days are. they are however body less but can grant their skills and exert control over the flesh of the living. Each PC is one such spirit with the knowledge of lifetimes and skills honed in the deadliest of combats, but they must find hosts and stop the evils that happen among men, for thus are they called.

Each PC would be incorporeal with a possession power. Allowing them to use the hosts physical stats with all of their other game stats.

Finding amicable hosts for even short term posession would be a primary problem, why not just fly into the BBEG's castle? Well if you can find a guard that you can take over then it might work out great... if not...
    >> Anonymous 08/12/08(Tue)00:47 No.2326962
Been down and out on you luck? Well never as bad as right now. You would do anything jut to survive which has brought you to this point GenTech is offering a high reward for product testers, the procedures are risky, but the pay-off is high, and hey, maybe this will help you get back on your feet, if not.. well that would be your problem anymore...

In the Year 2456 the human rac e was overcome with Xenophobia, they looked at they’re reflection in the mirror and were horrified by all of the ‘blessings’ that science had brought to them in the form of cybernetic augmentation and genetic selection, bioengineering. Thus began the great purge. Meta Humans were rounded up slain, but a select few were sent into exile, aboard a cryoship their flight spanned a galaxy. They Settled in the system of Altair-5 And began as all people do, to build a nation.

It is now the year 2556 This nation is reaching out to other nearby stars, through the use of its penal system. All of those who are charged with serious crimes or mental instability are reprogrammed and issued to the Planetary Invasion Coallition, the Pics. You are all such filth of the galaxy, forgotten you past, you are their hope for the future. You will invade worlds, accrue rank, and hopefully never remember who or what you were

It is a small thing the dreams that called this motley crew form their home. Varied in skillsets, race and gender, but they all came to that one hollow hill, they all heard the voice, speaking beneath it, and they all saw what he showed them. A wizard, far grown corrupt changing events in the timeline to fit his own ends, whose gaze was too narrow to avert coming disaster. they watched him slaw dragons and raise people, altering the victims memory of the events. They watched him kill people and raze towns to return orc hordes to the earth.

in his power this wizard was god-like.

But he didn;t watch the insects in his broad sweeping changes, which would give you the chance -- the only one to stop him.

You did it and the Efreeti promised you power in return whatever you wanted to have, power, fam position?

It was all granted but three years you could not remember what had happened. Simply awaking into all the luxury that you had been promised. Only to find the world was terribly wrong.

    The Efreeti was destroying time.

Now race into the past to change the course of events fight yourselves along the adventure arc you can barely remember. Defeat in many incarnations as you undo what foul magics have done and restore order to a now chaotic world.

Heh, mine seems dumb in comparison to these other game ideas. 3.5 D&D game where all of the players are half-breeds. The twist? You all have the same father. I really like Fredrik K.T. Andersson and I think his horny but unlucky bard is funny as all heck. Basically the idea is that the characters could be different alignments, maybe their parent's races don't get along, but they all stay together because they're all trying to find Daddy. And you could either make a light-hearted beer and pizza sort of game or make it deeper with the social problems they would all have, the developmental issues and maybe when they do find Daddy, Daddy doesn't want them.
I really have to run this game at some point.

1- OD&D, 1st ed, or 3.5 dominions campaign. Give each player a petty fiefdom and some basic troops to start with, as well as some extra cash to either spend on gear or some limited goodies for your kingdom-to-be. Lulz ensue when the halflings get embroiled in a brutal war over prime pipeweed growing lands.

Sci Fi setting on Earth, moderately advanced. The planet has become a utopia, well most of it. There are still some areas that are lawless scumholes that they have always been, but not to worry, the civilized world 'cares' and has sent some of its finest to deal with the problems.

Here's where your players come, they get sent into a hellhole and must deal with corruption, local warlords and stagnation. Your mission is to build up the region into something respectable. Your resources aside from a small budget are very few.

Queue players trying to balance violence, negotiation and a good dose of economics. Buy that piece of power armour? Build a new school? Or bribe that warlord? It's your choice!

You have just been hired into a top secret department of the federal government that suppresses any information about paranormal and supernatural activities. After a few assignments, you hear that the head psychic of your department has fallen under hallucinogenic visions while in the field; more specifically they are waking-dreams.

She is holding vital and time-sensitive information, but none of the other psychics can extract it because her surface thoughts are just dream-like visions. You have been given the task in retrieving this information and hopefully finding a cure for her, by entering the dreamplanes.

Nobody could stop you from using that setting as a backdrop for normal, party-based RPing. Space piracy comes to mind.

The characters are a very flawed set of new gods who've incarnated as the "cute" side of warstriders, daiklaves, etcetera. however, the celestial bureaucracy can't work out what use they are, and is going to remove them unless they prove their worth, or get enough support on their side to prove they deserve to live.
