Of course, even if he's crazy he's still Gadget. How would he approach torture? I can see a simple tactic as grabbing someone, forcing them through a glass window by extending his arm and dangling them a good thirty feet away from the building. They sit there in the wind, bleeding and possibly even being fed jolts, in combination with the rather sudden change of place.

Generally I'd agree about cyber assassins, but I'm sticking by my suggestion of her being an apparition of sorts. If he's all just demented inquisitor, he's just no different than most other creatures, but if he's got that "niece" of his in his head, then it gives him a bit of a tragic twist and an interesting hook. Is she just a figment of his imagination? Is it his relative speaking to him beyond the warp? Is it the C'tan manipulating him to their own ends "Just as planned" or maybe it's something else. Maybe even Brain could perceive it to a degree and some youths who're prone to becoming psykers could see "the ghost girl" following the Inspector around. It does give him a bit more purpose than simply being a hardass. But then again, I'm biased.

The small blinking readout flashed one per second, every second. Sleeping was out of the question, not enough flesh to warrant wasting so much time just sitting around. But it felt good, pretending to sleep. And it would look mighty suspicious if he was wide awake all the time. 23:59:58 *Any second now* 23:59:59 *wonder if I should spook him* 00:00:00 *Nah, not today*

"Gade! Get your idle, clumsy ass movin'. The Emperor's foes will not reveal themselves!" The heavy metal door slammed open, bouncing against the bulkhead with a resounding clang. Light flooded into the room, dazing Gadget for a moment, his eyes instantly adapting to the flare. He still played the part, squinting and putting a hand up to block the light. "Yes Brother Hugart. Give me a moment to give my thanks to the Emperor, and to dress."

The shadow looming in the door frame vanished, speaking loudly about devotion and sacrifice being the greatest thanks one could offer to Him Upon The Gold Throne.

"Damn pompous windbag... Would like to go-go gadget sewing kit on his lips..." Throwing the thread bare blanket off, he stared down, as he did every day, at the intricate array of wires, plates, servos, joints, cables and machinery. Only his face was human, and even that was only skin deep. No mirror to examine himself in, he used a telescopic eye. He had to keep in working condition. It was all in order.

Techpriests dug him up, decided he was a holy relic and he became a servant of the Omnissiah, until he eventually felt the yearning of his old roots and became an Inquisitor.

Our version is more GRIMDARK, because he's had thousands of years alone talking to himself and possibly basking in the dormant presence of the void dragon while trapped beneath a million tons of earth after failing to save Penny's life. Theirs provides a good setup for all of this.

Now he hunts for evil men in the darkness followed by an apparition of the dead within his personal mechanical companion, a cloned dog riddled with implants and the sleeping Omnissiah calling to him from across the void.

As much as I hate to do it, I have to point out that this idea sucks.

A few weeks back someone posted the picture of Gadget looking in the mirror along with a moving and sinister passage about how he'd agreed to the implants because he was tired of being a buffoon, but now the metal wouldn't stop growing, spreading... And how Penny mustn't know, when she obviously does know, hiding around the corner and crying.

That was awesome and worth expanding on; Inquisitor Gadget is just kind of dumb.

    >> Anonymous 04/23/08(Wed)16:52 No.1590950
    Hmm.

At the beginning of the Iron Warrior's descent into treachery, a precious few of the Traitor Marines-to-be were still trained by the Adeptus Mechanicus. It was then that the first news of betrayal would have been delivered by a "trio" of the Adeptus Arbites- the Arbitrator Detective Gahd Jet, Handler Penni and her Mastiff, Cerebel. But for what must have been daemonic corruption, the traitor Techmarine now known as Warsmith Claw would have met the Emperor's Justice- instead, the Arbites team was sent along with a 700 metre portion of containment plating plunging deep into forging chambers best not disturbed by such things.
    >> Anonymous 04/23/08(Wed)16:53 No.1590955
    >>1590950
In the resulting chaos, Claw made his escape, cursing Gahd Jet for denying him the precious secrets of the Omnissiah that would have done great harm in the hands of Chaos- for the Arbites had forced him to choose to escape ingorant or to know and die.

Little did Claw or the servants of the Machine God know, but the Omnissiah would bless these protectors of His Knowledge manifold for their sacrifice. First, in restoring their lives through the sacred ritual of Cybernetic Resurrection, so that Arbites Gahd Jet might wield His many wonders to uphold the Emperor's Law and to protect the sacred knowledges.

Second, in granting Handler Penni and her mastiff the duty of preserving the knowledge of a massive data-scriptorium. An immature servitor body was the only option available to save Penni's brain for the transfer, and even then some of the sacred knowledge was stored in her canine-familiar's own enhanced mind. None expect the wisdom of a Magos Errant from a girl-child, much less from the voxcoder of a beast.

To this day, the chase continues. The Warsmith, ever seeking to get Gahd Jet for the secrets he contains, Penni guiding the now-clumsy Arbites cyborg and cunning canine servant to victory against the Emperor's enemy, and Cerebel's inhuman trickery and holoprojectors keep Gahd Jet going the right way and his enemies every other.

Of course. If you are not for the Emperor, you are the enemy. And the Law of the Emperor says that all such shall perish.

Usually via an adamantium-pistoned extendable powerfist, in the case of Gahd Jet. The combination of duty and the Emperor's own fortune means the process has claimed far more agility than humanity from the Detective, leaving him prone to irregular (but righteous and inevitably, unstoppably effective) actions in his deeds. A minor vocoder-to-neurointerface glitch leads to the infamous "Go-go-Gahd-Jet-(cyberimplant operations routine name)".

Surely, the Emperor is pleased that "Go-go-Gahd-Jet-Emperor's Judgement" has been used 49,682 times at the timestamp of this entry.

Warsmith Claw: Iron Warrior Techmarine pre-Heresy, promoted to Warsmith for successes in stealing critical technical information from the Adeptus Mechanicus following a hasty escape from Mars during a "core collapse" caused by Gahd Jet's destruction of a ancient data conduit Claw was using to penetrate the deepest mysteries of the Machine Cult.

Never without his cyber-familiar, a heavily modified felinoid beast. Psy-linked to it's master, the creature will often reflect emotions hidden behind Claw's mask...leading many to believe the cat is mad. Twin-linked lasers in each forepaw and a pair of pop-out missile boxes in the torso are often the last "modification" of Claw's pet failures ever see.

A black genius by even the standards of the Iron Warriors, Claw reflects the "finest virtues" of his Primarch- a cold intelligence worthy of the finest logic engine, paranoia deeper than the Eye of Terror. Nothing has seen him without his traditional iron mask and lived- save Gahd Jet. He believes (falsely) the secrets of the data-scriptorium lie hidden in Gahd Jet's frame, leading to countless failures to dismantle the Arbites (the Emperor Protects) and cries of "I'll get you next time, Gahd Jet!... Next time!" mixed with hisses of anger from his mechanical familiar.

I still like trapped underground for thousands of years on Terra during a failed attempt to save his niece's life, going insane in the dormant presence of the Lovecraftian Void Dragon combined with guilt from his past failures, inability to go to sleep, feeling his physical parts rot away and talking to himself for every computer enhanced second of it followed by him being dug up by Techpriests who thinking he's a holy relic, take him to a forgeworld, repair and partially rehabilitating him before indoctrinating him in the worship of the Omnissiah (Gadget finds religion as a mental crutch... worshiping unknowingly the very demon who haunted his every waking nightmares during the extended live burial), inevitably resulting in Gadget joining the ranks of the techpriests who share in part his... unique body type, creating an eerie janus simircula resembling his long dead niece which seems to be infested with a psychic apparition of her, as well as a cyber mastiff, getting involved in an accident involving the forging of the holy metal, climbing the ranks until he became the assistant of an Inquisitor, becoming a Legate Investigator, finding out Claw may have somehow survived as well and running from the slowly strengthening voices that echo from his very bones idea.
