15 KB Codex: Angry Marines Anonymous 03/25/08(Tue)21:45 No.1404465
/tg/, I'd like to compile everything we know on Angry Marines and make an unofficial codex of sorts.

So post anything you think would be relevant to actually doing this.

I give to you: THE ANGRY MARINES TOME OF INFINITE RAGE

For when they absolutely need to get into a REALLY FUCKING PISSED mood, they break out a big ass, gold leaf hardcover tome containing EVERY ISSUE OF SOFTPAW MAGAZINE EVER RELEASED.

Even the slightest glimpse of the horrors contained with in would drive any normal man insane, but the Angry Marines are conditioned so that the will-sapping display of mutant wankery only drives them into UNCOMPROMISING BOUTS OF FURIOUS WRATH.
When not in use, the Tome is kept under a 100 Angry Marine guard, as it is one of the most potent weapons of Chaos ever to exist. The Inquisition has cleared its use by the Angry Marines, but every use must be registered after the fact, and it must be inspected once every decade by a high-ranking member of the Inquisition.

They first discovered the Tome after destroying a Furry Cult of Slaanesh even more easily than they usually do. They discovered that it was because of the Tome, which was laid out on a pedestal for all to see, unconsciously affected the AMs and drove them to RAGE even harder against the furries, something that was long thought impossible.

The Tome may only be used by the AMs Chapter Master, Head Chaplain, or Chief Librarian, no other AM has the strength of will to bear it into battle.
When one of these characters is equipped with the Tome, all AMs on the board get +1 WS, +1 Str, +1 Attack, and +1 I. Versus any Slaanesh-aligned models, they get twice that.

Also, any non-Space Marine, non-Inquisition, non-Necron, non-Chaos models (this includes allies) within 24" of the Tome receive -1 attack (to a min of 1), and -2 Ld.

At the start of each battle in which the Tome is used, all non-vehicle Angry Marine units must make a Leadership save, if they fail, for the rest of the game they will count as having an Initiative of 1 (but the Tome's ability still applies). If a Psyker fails the test, in addition to the reduced initiative, they also suffer a Perils of the Warp attack, due to the sudden visions of unbound, hemaphroditic, hedonistic, and unrelenting Yiffing.

    The Banner of Fuck You
Named in the Imperial history's less cuss-filled books as the Holy Chapter Banner of the Angry Marines, the Banner of Fuck You draws its origins from the day Sons of Gulliman 2nd Company Captain Tecliar rebuked an unnamed Banner Bearer for his rough treatment of the standard he carried. The unnamed bearer responded by beating Tecliar around the head and body with the standard's pole until the Captain retreated back onto a waiting Thunderhawk and left the planet.

So angry that they were forced to "look after some clothy piece of crap" the Angry Marines began hooking up their banners to power weapon packs, effectively turning them into large bludgeoning weapons with the cloth on fire.

The Banner of Fuck You is a particularly potent symbol of the Angry Marines, as the banner is not made of cloth by a large sheet forged from the armour of the original Banner Bearer (he wasn't dead at the time, they just thought he was too up himself).

When the Banner of Fuck You is in play, all Angry Marines within 12 inches gain +1 to the WS and A, and the banner itself is treated as a two-handed power weapon that adds +2 to the user's strength.

Regardless of WHO the Chapter Master is, he should by all accounts wield THIS WEAPON:

The Adamantite Sack Full of Power Doorknobs
During the great crusade known as the "Punching of The Dylad System", the single loyal planet in the system fell under attack of the vile forces of Chaos. First to respond to the attack but grossly outnumbered the Angry Marines battled in and around the Hive-Capital of Dylad 2 until at last the Chapter Master (known only as The Angriest) took his tech-marines with him and went around every single home personally ripping the doorknobs off. With each knob the tech-marines would attach a power-field generator and then place it in a sack somehow made out of adamantite weave (Angry Marine chronicles suggest they just yelled at a servitor for ages till it somehow did it), until the sack was full and an activator for every single door-knob was placed on The Angriest's wrist.

As the forces of Chaos rallied for a final assault, the Angry Marines went to meet them head on, and the full fury of The Angriest saw the Chaos Assault blunted until reinforcements arrived and were sworn at for being so slow.

The Adamantite Sack of Full of Power Doorknobs is a two handed weapon that adds +1 to the wielder's strength, and +3 to their attacks. The wielder's attacks are also considered to be the equivalent of attacks from a Monstrous Creature in regards to armour saves and armour penetration.

Yes. Chaplains are considered to be the most opinionated and loud of Angry Marines, yelling down the others while pointing at a book that's supposed to be the Codex Astartes but is usually just scrawls of creative new cusses.

Librarians are those Angry Marines who get so angry their latent psychic potential explodes into raw psychic rage. You might say theirs is the most focused rage.

    The Hand of Fury

Originally the weapon of choice of a former Captain of the 8th Assault Company whose name has been lost to history, this flamer gain notoriety after it was used to wipe out a hive that was taken over by the Greater Daemon Furseiseki. Though the captain died as he slew the monster in question, his weapon survived and is now the badge of office for whoever leads the 8th Company. It's blessed fuels ensure neither shield or spell can save any filthy heretic or xenos from it's purging flames, and modifications have been made to improve it's power.

While the angry marines do have a small number of landraiders at thier disposal, they have refused to use all variants except the landraider crusader. Citing that hurricane bolters are clearly the angriest bolters. They have also adopted the baal variant predator of the blood angels for its similar characteristics. They refuse to use any other tanks because they are not angry enough.

Most angry marine armies instead rely on their belligerence engines to be the main brunt of their armor. They are dreadnoughts with two close combat weapons, two heavy flamers (fired independently). It is also immune to be stunned and shaken. And has a d6+1 attacks. They can be fielded in both the elite or the heavy support slots.
*they should have some special upgrades to move it from one slot to the other, but I'm lazy*

Now think about shooting a gun. Would you like to:

Great hero of the Angry Marines, Captain Fuckew "Nid-fucker" Mchugerage, Ranking Captain of the Second Company and imbued with the honorific "SUPREME LARGE FURIOUS FUCKER OF THE TYRANIDS", of which the Angry Marines only have one at a given time.

This honorific is earned by a supreme act of absolutely unfettered rage that even the Angry Marines find impressive, and indeed, Fuckew Mchugerage is one of the most accomplished psychopaths of the Angry Marines.

Fuckew was known in particular for his incredible anger whenever faced by any foe who had more than one leg. While his one weakness is that he is rather sedate when faced with one-legged foes (he only screams at a moderate volume and force-feeds his defeated foes only one or two of their own limbs), his rage is multiplied as the amount of legs on a foes increases to a level rivalling that of Temperus himself.

This came to a boil in his first engagement with the Tyranids. As he and his second company, with him at the lead, fought the Tyranid hordes, he screamed with such rage that the Hive Mind itself recoiled and its control over the swarms was impaired. It was recorded that the day of the battle, a 9000-man Imperial Guard regiment in the nearby vicinity simply exploded as the wave of PURE ANGER hit them.

Coming face to face with an eight-limbed Hive Tyrant, Fucke-

I agree, its taking the idea of righteous anger to the extreme, but only during battle, there is no sense in being so angry that you can't communicate or be effective on the battlefield. If that was the case the chapter wouldn't last very long. I think a good way to work through this fluff stuff is put yourself in a position of being ready to punt a baby and then look at a unit or wargear or whatever and see if you would find that to be a good way to channel your anger.

Tired of having to deal with using more that one kinda of grenade in battle, the techmarines of the angriest of chapters created a new angrier grenade. Any model equipped with these grenades counts as having frag grenades when charging, but may also place the blast template touching their base when they charge, any model partially covered gets hit on a 4+ and any model totally covered gets hit automatically. This is a str 4 ap 6 hit.

Angry Marines have been known to get REALLY angry at any difference from the norm in any of the Companies, ever.

One night, in a bout of infinite rage, Captain of the 13th Company, Fukkar Paunchfase Powerboot, decided to Angry at his Angry Marines for "YELLING THE FUCK OUT OF" him. In this, he requisitioned for a single squad member of every squad under his control to carry a single, regular bolter.

Though the bolter itsself was ineffective in combat, the difference of the weapon from a regular powerbat or powerfist drove every Angry Marine to become much, much angrier, increasing the destruction they dealt upon the xenos tenfold.

Later, upon closer inspection, The Angriest decided to make this a regular installment in every squad: since then, the Angry Marines have become much more efficient during battle, and angry research si taking place at this moment to see what could be done about giving each Company a single Angry Sororitas to further increase rage.

Well aside from special items and characters, they'd need some general special rules and slightly different equipment options.

For one thing they should have lower Ld than normal Marines, perhaps as low as 6, to represent their comparative lack of discipline, but this wouldn't be as ridiculous a drawback as it sounds because they'd still have ATSKNF. To completely compensate they can also get burly combat abilities. Of course characters could go higher, say up to 8.

For one they clearly need Furious Charge, that's pretty much a given. Some general attacks bonus for charging, say +D3 instead of the usual +1, would also be nice and not totally unfair.

I'd say no Devastators and probably no heavy weapons at all except on vehicles. In return, they could have the option to take two special weapons per squad (Tac, Vet, etc.). It would be a nice touch to allow them to take a power fist or maybe sword instead of a meltagun, plasma gun, or flamer, too. Of course they should be able to take a bolt pistol/ccw instead of a bolter, always.

Certain units could have Feel No Pain and/or Preferred Enemy against everyone, but I think it would be pushing it to give either of those to all Angry Marines. Maybe Preferred Enemy could fly as a special rule for the whole army, but I'm not sure. Rumor is it's getting buffed considerably in 5th Ed., becoming a re-roll to hit rather than a guaranteed 3+.

Anyway those are just my first thoughts on it. The major challenge in making actual rules for them would be to make them feel distinct from Khorne Marines, the Blood Angels, and the Black Templars, but still angry. I avoided any mention of extra movement just because it would feel like the Templars rule even if it was slightly different, for example.

I think giving them Devastaters but limiting their weapons would be a better option, and instead restricting what vehicles they can take and what those can be armed with. (Someone suggested only Furioso Dreads and Baal Preds). Even though the Angry Marines would be a mainly CC army, I think some of them would be able to be just as angry melting people with a plasma cannon or turning their foes into mush with a heavy bolter.

I really like the idea about changing the special weapons a squad can get to something like power fists /swords. That could go along with the rule that the only special weapons they can take are plasma based, heavy bolters / assault cannons, or flamers.

That is one of the main problems though, they do closely resemble the blood angles as >>1404483 has already pointed out.

In a battle against a group of heretics the angry marines where fighting alongside a small contingent of Witch Hunters. Eager to assault the fortress, but unable to cross the great distance to the fortress the angry marines mounted upon an exorcist, and with each volley would grab hold of a missile and would be carried deep into the heart of battle. Seeing the effectiveness of this strategy the techmarines of the chapter modified an exorcist missile launcher to more safely carry the deadly cargo in addition to its warhead.

Fired the same as the exorcist launcher, but any model within 3 inches of the tank when it fires its missile may elect to climb aboard a missile. For each missile that hits its target you can place one model in base contact with the unit hit, and it counts as charging. For those that missed, they are scattered as normal for guess weapons with the centre of the scatter being the closest model in the unit to the tank when it fires.

They should have Devestators, but they would only be allowed to carry Heavy Bolters, Plasma Cannons, Assault Cannons, and Heavy Flamers.

They would also be able to move and shoot, but they would resolve shooting at BS 2, due to the fact they're moving and to their RAGE at being stuck with the Heavy Weapons.

Also, they can use Inferno rounds for their bolters cause Bolter rounds that cause the enemy to catch fire are pretty goddamn angry.

Do we have any rules for Pretty Marines yet?

The Max-Mei Defense (modeled as voxcaster):
In any turn, the Pretty Marines player may activate all units equipped with the Max-Mei Defense. These units take no action this turn, as they stop to sing a song of love and peace. For each unit with the Max-Mei Defense that sings, pick an enemy unit within line of sight. These enemy units, whether through rage, confusion, or heartfelt agreement, may take no actions during their next turn as they stand and listen.

And They Shall Not Be Sullied:
Whenever a Pretty Marine unit is charged, both players roll a d6 and add their unit's initiative. If the Pretty Marine's player wins, immediately move the charged unit d6 inches away; the charging unit gets a 3" consolidation. If the charging unit wins the roll, combat is resolved as normal.
