I just had a crazy idea. See pic. A chapter of space marines that special specializes in amphibious assault. Sort of a parody of the Ultramarines... their color is aquamarine, homeworld is Aquamar, but kinda serious too. I'm thinking a scouts heavy force (all with red beanies) and dedicated land raider transports in a special amphibious pattern. In game terms they would treat water as normal terrain.

    What does /tg/ think?
    >> Anonymous 03/14/08(Fri)01:40 No.1333031
Interesting concept. As long as you can somehow make up for the inability for enemy units to charge you while you're in water, you should be good.

Then he'd need some kind of silly name...

Like Lo'bestar the Green, of the Aquamarines, from the planet Aquar.

The Inquisition would like them no doubt, since a group of submarine can easily wipe out a continent.

I suppose they would also need to work closely with the Adeptus Mechanicus to make the needed changes to their vehicles.

It does raise the question of what they would fight if underwater. Sharksquigs would be one.
    >> Anonymous 03/14/08(Fri)02:27 No.1333292
Okay, so if you want to convert but are willing to have a few tourney-illegal models, you could come up with some decent amphibious vehicles.

"Patrol boat"-like Landspeeders which are mildly cheaper (say 45-50 pts with heavy bolter) but just as papery, and can only move on water.

Amphibious assault allows assault the turn they disembark if from water...

Rhino-like troop transport, haven't thought of anything yet.

Their heavy transport is the Sea Raider, with a special hero version called the Nautilus (fuck yes Captain Nemo).

Big flaw with true underwater combat is that Bolters would suddenly not work - they're horribly unhydrodynamic, plus the rocket propellants would need serious reworking to be able to fire underwater.

Not to mention nids would face a similar problem with their living ammunition... although I can see them replacing it with something akin to tadpoles.

Can you imagine something that looked like a huge school of fish, but is actually hundreds of thousands of living ammunition pellets, weaving its way towards you? And that's only the first volley.

Die they may, but they will just keep on being made, even after they're dead. You either have to kill Every Single One, or wipe the biomass off the planet. Necrons stay dead once you've killed them, until eventually you've killed enough that they run away.

    Possible underwater scenarios include:
    - Necron machinery beneath the ocean working to dry the planet up and reduce it to a tomb world.
    - Tyranid spores has descended from the sky and landed in the water. Only a few days later have people actually gathered the courage to explore underwater.
    - Everyone thinks that they're safe when the Ork Rok crashes into the water instead of land. However, a few of the leading people shit bricks when they get readings of thousands of objects moving towards them from underwater.
    - Chaos have landed on the planet and are excavating the sunken ruins of a Chaos Temple.

Orks should just be orks even underwater- they don't need any special fucking gear or so, they've got their waagh and they think they have no problems being underwater. Thous no problems with being under water.

Necrons however might be abit overpowered, since it's in their fluff that their weapons needs ridiculous amount of power and since it's underwater they can just turn it into electric and fuck things over.

That said, you're right, necrons ARE supposed to be lifeless, that doesn't mean they're supposed to be boring. >>1333600 is right, boring lifeless assholes are for boring lifeless players; they're not fun to paint, they're not fun to look at, they're not fun to play, they're not even fun to play against. Necrons need some serious work to be enjoyable. I'm not even 100% sure if this is subjective, because I've heard so many people complain about it; and so many people try very very hard to try and make an enjoyable Necron list for their opponents.

    >>1333596

Nah, I have to disagree, Orks still need the silly gear. However, I imagined more along the lines of them having just a fishbowl over their head, yet somehow they don't run out of air due to Waagh, and somehow it isn't completley shattered by a stray bolter shot (or no more so than their armour would be). I even imagine a warboss in one smoking a cigar, without any ill effect whatsoever.
