336 KB Getting everyone in a 1d10 mile radius Fanatic. Anonymous 12/22/07(Sat)11:17 No.926361
As we all know, it's possible to substitute a Perform check for a Diplomacy check, letting you turn Hostile creatures into Fanatics just by succeeding at a DC 150 Perform check. The alphorn musical instrument from Song and Silence lets you forgo the +2 circumstance bonus for a masterwork instrument, in exchange for extending your music and bardic music effects out to a radius of 1d10 miles. Presumably, you can thus make everyone in a 1d10 mile radius Fanatic for you if you can succeed at that DC 150 Perform check. This build can do that, but only at 20th-level.

Technically, Abyssal Heritor feats aren't inherently evil at all, they're just inherently chaotic. You just have to be a Chaotic Good bible thumper of Lathander, and you're good to go. As for WHY you would want to do so, I guess you could do it to prevent an oncoming horde of a million fiends, or something along those lines.

Now that I think about it, yes, you can in fact whore out Aid Another bonuses. However, I'm just playing it safe by keeping in mind the following caveat:

    >In cases where the skill restricts who can achieve certain results you can’t aid another to grant a bonus to a task that your character couldn’t achieve alone.

Once again, I think the "in cases where the skill restricts who can achieve certain results you can’t aid another to grant a bonus to a task that your character couldn’t achieve alone" caveat applies here. I also think that you can only use Aid Another if you're adjacent to whoever you're helping, which is why the infamous Nanobots build requires you to grow to Colossal size, but I'm not sure where that rule is stated.

Maybe I didn't say that clearly enough; all I said was that this stuff is that ludicrous thinking-outside-the-box powergaming is the only kind that I can tolerate outside of a game played primarily through developing personalities. It belongs strictly in the realm of theory unless a character can be made interesting enough to incorporate it in themselves without being made show-stealing and less enjoyable for every other player.

That's why a lot of the things in threads like these tend to give me ideas for unique but still killable antagonists for my campaign, with proper credit to the anonymous that digs all this up.

Additionally, the commoners will probably take on the mob template from the Dungeon Master's Guide II, with each individual mob being a CR 8 Gargantuan creature with 30 HD and 48 individual commoners. However, I don't think the alphornmancer will make a million creatures go Fanatic, since even a bigass city like Waterdeep has a population of only 132,661 (663,305 in the summer months).

    You all forget something.

    Something horrible.
The basis of this , is that it is a SKILL CHECK. It isnt a magical effect, it isnt some feat or something. He's doing a perform check, which is aided by magical aids and sub-skills, but in the end, the final issue is that it's a freaking -skill-.

There's no actual defenses for "LIKING" something. Not even GODS can withstand this. Without DM bs fiat, or something crazy or bs made up to resist this. With only the RAW, this essentially, anyone or everyone who hears this will automatically become his fanatic.

Why? Because it's like the player did an amazing epic speech, only through a freaking song. 150 is crazy. This is not a mind affecting spell. It just happens. A skill.

It really would be. The characters would have to infiltrate an entire city set out against them, probably plugging their ears to deafen themselves and pray that their spells don't fail and they can bluff effectively enough to communicate, all while using some form of disguises to interact safely with the fanatics despite being unable to hear them.

To make it all worthwhile, our rock star will probably be sitting atop Olidammara's own lucky charms or something.

Now that I think about it, a 3rd-level bard can use his Inspire Compentence ability to provide a +2 circumstance bonus to a particular skill to an ally within 30 feet, and circumstance bonuses stack. You can easily fit 80 creatures in a 30-foot radius around yourself, so you could conceivably get a +160 circumstance bonus as long as you can convince 80 3rd-level bards to help you out.

The entry for epic skill checks doesn't specify the action type required for Perform checks, but we'll just assume that it works like Diplomacy for now. That means it takes a one-minute performance for it to work, but you can also opt to take a -10 penalty to shorten the check down to a full-round action. With a +164 bonus to the check, we can afford to take the -10 penalty and even roll a natural 1 on the check, and everyone in a 1d10 mile radius will still go Fanatic.

Anyway, one last thing before I gb2/bed/: once you hit epic levels, take Ranged Inspiration and then Music of the Gods as your first two epic feats. That way, your range will be extended to 2d10 miles, and you'll be able to affect those normally immune to mind-affecting effects (even with the virtual +10 to the Perform DC).

Nothing can beat a mage lvl 20 with reasonable built.
Of course, this includes divination spells.
