You are Anon. You live your life in the wooded outskirts of Coolsville downloading anime from the web and collecting imported figurines from Japan and living off your inheritance from Grandfather Simmons and manga review blog (mostly the inheritance). You're well aware that your chosen lifestyle isn't what most would consider ideal...but you do your best to take care of yourself. You work out. You hunt. You trap. You fish. You decided that if you had to be a lonely weeaboo Neet you would try to be the best lonely weeaboo Neet possible.

But now you have another reason to GIT GUD. You have a girlfriend. Against all odds, you have a girlfriend.

She's a werewolf. Her name is Winnie. She's the Alpha of the local pack. And when she saw you fearlessly (and rather carelessly) risk your life to help people during a vampire attack a few Christmases back she took a shine to you.

It sounds just like one of your animes...except its not. In those kinds of animes the guy doesn't really have to do anything. A great girl shows up, she loves him, he loves her, and maybe there's some conflict that gets solved through the power of love...but what you got isn't like that.

Happy feelings aren't going to help the pickle you and your wolf have found yourself in. Her pack has always seen normal human you as weak. The shifter half-breeds you could produce would be far, far, far away from the ideal pack leaders of the next generation. And after a disastrous bout with a Wendigo named White Fell in which Winnie lost her tail (It grew back. Werewolves heal like that. They're sort of like big fuzzy cartoons) her pack is starting to see her as weak. It doesn't take much for her pack siblings, angered and confused by her humiliating loss, to come to the conclusion that association with you has turned their Alpha into a weakling.

There have been hushed whispers of rivals preparing to challenge Winnie for her rank. When Winnie talks about it she tries to put on her usual cool confidence. But when you force her to stop avoiding meeting your gaze you can tell that there is fear locked deep inside her eyes.
>>
In the anime you've watched 9/10 times its the girl that rescues the guy. He's suffocating under the boredom and loneliness of his life and then suddenly a goddess/robot/alien flies in and makes things exciting.

But this is your story. In your story your girl needs you. Shes in trouble because of you. She's in trouble because you're weak, and because they think you're making her weak.

This is your story. You will show them that you are not weak. You will show them that you are worthy of Winnie. You will show them that you are worth a damn.

You will be worth a damn. You'll make yourself be worth a damn. Sure, you'll never be able to rip cars in half like a werewolf but you'll show them that you got what really counts. You'll show them you got the will and the spirit and the fight.

It's not the size of the dog that counts. Its the fight. Winnie told you that. And showed you that more than a few times...

.....

You walk down the back alley of the Setting Moon cafe. The smell from the kitchen makes you hungry-you skipped breakfast (White Fell "cooked" a deer for you. You discreetly buried the bleeding carcas). But you aren't sure if you should risk going in for a bite...Winnie hasn't revealed that your her boyfriend to anyone but her family, but beastpeople read body language and subconscious ques like writing in a book. Many suspect there's something between the two of you, and fear that its actual romance.

If you step into the Cafe mostly patroned by werewolves you might find that them snarling at you...

Winnie (with her new phone) called you and asked you to meet her behind the cafe. She said she wanted your advice with something to do with a werewolf in trouble-alpha stuff. She wants you to get more involved with her alpha duties. As her husband-to-be you're going to have to show you're a good beta. Showing that you can be of help to her and her alpha duties is probably the best way to show the pack that you're valuable.

So where do we stand timeframe wise?

For the new folks a quick rehash that's less detailed:

Winnie visits Anon, her attempted boyfriend bleeding.

Anon feeds Winnie, there's some romance, romance broken by threatening phone call from White Fell.

Learn White Fell is a Wendigo (white as fuck edition) who dislikes Winnie wanting that human meat.

Anon + Winnie attempt to set up some defenses/prepare.

White Fell gets into the house while the two are outside and all hell breaks loose.

Anon poorly attempts stealth but makes it under the house long enough to huck a flashbang.

White Fell gets blinded, proceeds to get ass kicked/shown off lewdly by Winnie.

White Fell + Winnie have heartfelt friendship rekindling.

White Fell turns out to be an adorable ball of doesn't know a thing, ends up spilling the beans on plans on raping Anon to take him from Winnie, gets haymaker'd by Winnie but Anon saves the day.

Shower is had, jerking off in shower is had, clean wolves in his MAN DEN CAVE OF WEEB, slowly works White Fell to not be such a untrusting fluffball.

Anon fucks up a few times, White Fell banshee howls out of sadness, Winnie shows that Anon has the accuracy of a dying fly, White Fell accepts her past is heavily flawed and realizes humans don't suck as bad.

Anon now has a harem of his waifu, his waifu's adorable friend who doesn't know shit but is loving life, Winnie got a footrub from White Fell, and when we actually last let off White Fell was wearing a maid outfit and watching DBZ with Anon.

Have no clue where we are in the timeline; here have a CRITICAL EAR SCRATCH. We need more White Fell art to work with so any artfags please feel free.

You don't feel like getting howled at today, so you munch on some handy pocky you always keep around in one of your jacket pockets and try not to think about delicious cooked meat.

If you know what to order werewolf food isn't half bad. Its sort of like a highly seasoned sashimi, and you love sashimi.

Suddenly a blur of motion leaps out at you from behind a dumpster and tackles you to the ground!

Looking up you see cute yellow eyes and a cute fanged smile and a cute brown furred face.

"Hey there Anon, looks like I caught ya napping!"

"Ah, I'm just light headed is all. Skipped breakfast."

"White Fell cooked again?"

"Well, as far as she can cook."

You notice the edge of Winnie's smile jerk a little.

"...I got to talk to ya about White Fell...but not here, not now. We're doing Alpha business. That always comes first."

"....Something troubling you about White Fell?

"Its not important." She stands up and offers you a hand up. "Come on."

"I love you." You say giving her fuzzy cheek a quick smooch.

"Anon..." She rubs her cheek. "What was that for?"

"Because you're you. And I missed you cooped up in that cabin."

"White Fell hasn't been keeping you company?"

"Not like you can."

Her tail begins to wag.

"Uh...okay..." She grabs your hand. Her claws gently squeeze it. "Okay..." She repeats as she looks up into your eyes, lost in a fog of emotions. "Okay...let'ssss not get carried away..." She drops your hand and looks away, ears pointing down in embarrassment. "I missed you to Anon. A whole lot. But we can't just explode with our emotions like that..."

Her tail wags like the end of a plane propeller.

"Come on Winnie, you're usually much better about your instincts than this. You're acting like we've been apart an entire year, but its only been a few days. What's bothering you?" You reach down and scratch her head, moving your hand to her favorite spot behind her ear..."

"Stop it..." She half-heartedly swats your hand away. "Cut it out. I've just been...really stressed out. I mean you and I know I got White Fell back. But we're the only ones that know. The rest of the pack see me as a giant loser, a chump who lost her tail to a little Wendigo savage after she made me beg and kiss her foot."

"From what I've seen they've been real supportive of you though. They've been patting you on the back and telling you that you're still their Alpha and they're proud of you. They've even made you homemade meals like you were in the hospital or something-the stew that Ms. Grimtooth made by the way was excellent. Never tell me what its made of."

"There's a process that happens when an Alpha fucks up like I have." Winnie crosses her arms. "At first yeah, its all sympathy and hugs. When something bad happens to your leader you rally around them. But when the dust settles people start to think, should this loser really be our leader? I think we're entering that phase of things."

"We've talked about this before. If anyone challenges you, you kick their ass. You're the strongest and the toughest and if you got to remind anyone of that you remind them."

"Yeah." Winnie smacks a fist into her hand. "Competition for this year's Alpha tournament is going to be real interesting...I guess this is what I get for complaining that people weren't taking it as seriously as they should. I'm just worried about direct challenges. Those things SUCK. They suck so goddamn hard..." Winnie moodily adjusts her flannel shirt over her shoulders.

>>
>>994996
There are two ways to defeat an Alpha and take her place in the pack hierarchy. There are rules to prevent someone from just challenging an Alpha again and again until they win or wear down an Alpha through a succession of fights until they're so weak anyone could beat them. There have always been rules-even as far back as the 17th century when alchemists vampire Cagliostro and his human peer Count St. Germain created the first pack in the forests of Gevaudan, France.

The more modern and less traumatic way is to place in the yearly Alpha tournament held every year in November. The number of places varies by regional culture-for Winnie's pack the number is three. Those three are allowed to fight the Alpha over three weeks, with the final fight held on New Years Eve.

The yearly Alpha tournament is the safer, saner alternative to the ancient method of the direct challenge. To prevent the Alpha from being swarmed or challenged over and over the challenger must wager something that the pack council decides is comparable in worth to being Alpha.

In ancient times this could be a werewolf's life. This could be their child. This could be exile from the pack. Direct challenges exist as a part of Pack law to this day, but they occur rarely and when they do the wager is never so dire. Often times a tail is wagered, or the challenger is forced to publicly humiliate themselves.

Packs generally hate direct challenges. The drama they cause is disruptive to the Pack order and no one wants to see a pack brother or sister suffer whatever the forfeit may be. When they are used in the modern period it is as a last resort against an unwanted Alpha or as a way to send a message-"We do not want you. This is the length we will go to see you step down. Please step down. If you continue being Alpha you must harm a pack sibling."

"Cheer up Winnie." You wrap an arm around her shoulder. "If anyone is stupid enough to try a direct challenge they're likely just a young kid angry over your loss and wanting to look tough. They'll offer something stupid as a wager to the council and they'll reject their challenge. There will only be trolls."

And you hope you're right about that.

"Say I get one though. Say they offer up their tail. Say they're serious about challenging me..."

>Say/Do?

>We'll have to find a way to get them to retract their challenge. Well talk it out. (Become more calm, more human, more beta)

>You'll kick their ass and I'll be in your corner as always (Become more assertive, more wolf, more alpha)

Why not both? Something to the effect of:

"Winnie we'll try it the diplomatic way if possible. I'm not the best versed in Werewolf anything but your people aren't just savage beasts. I'm sure talking has a chance of working, and if it doesn't well you kick some ass, take a tail or two, and I'll be there on the sidelines wishing you the best and cheering for a brutal ass kicking towards your enemy. It might not mean much but no matter what I'll always be proud of you no matter what happens."

I'm not writefag capable.
>>
>>995028
We can suggest doing both, but we have to decide if we want to stress trying to find a peaceful solution or stress showing them whose boss.

The way you have it written it sounds like you want to stress kicking ass.
>>
>>995036

Damn was supposed to be more last resort violence, ah well this is why you're the writer. Gunning more for civility unless backed into a corner. One way or another I'm assuming fighting is a constant threat.
>>
>>995018
Personally I am all for seeing if we can negotiate and work for a peaceful solution, but she shouldn't be afraid to get tough if it does truly come down to such an event and talking has failed. We aren't the best at werewolf politics but I feel like a balance between both showing humanity and showing assertiveness is good in a leader. Shows some strength.

Either way we'll be behind her at ever step.

"Winnie, if it comes to that we'll try diplomacy. I'm not the best versed in Werewolf stuff, but I'm learning more and more about your people every day. And something I've always known is that you guys aren't savage beasts like some people think you are."

"I just...I'm just scared okay?" She says looking down at her feet. "I'm scared of what's going to happen if my position is ever questioned to that degree. Dad...no one ever challenged dad..." Her ears droop.

"Being Alpha means resolving problems. You wouldn't have become one if you didn't have the strength to solve things without fighting. What was the phrase? "Being Alpha means speaking with the voice of the pack, to the pack?""

"Yeah. That's it." Winnie smiles wanly. "Now where did you pick up that phrase. That's an old one, I remember Mom saying it to me the night I defeated Dad..."

"I got it out of a book on werewolves I got from my grandfather's book collection in the attic. He's got quite an odd collection-books on werewolves, flowers, map-making..."

"You've been doing your homework. I'm impressed."

"Well, in between manga and showing White Fell Vsauce videos."

"You think we'll be able to diffuse whatever happens? I hope so. I really, really hope so."

"Hey. If worse comes to worse I'll be in your corner cheering you on as always. And you will not lose. And we'll make things right with whoever you had to fight."

"Talk talk talk. You think everything comes down to making noises with your mouth. So like a human...its why I got such a crush on ya..." Winnie nuzzles her head against your chest. "Oh hold on." She says suddenly sniffing the air. "Come on, Sally's shift is over!"

"Wait hold on!" You say as she starts dragging you by the arm down the alley. "You didn't say much on the phone!"

"Sally is the werewolf we're going to help." Winnie whispers crouching with you behind the turn. "She's a waitress here, and a friend...and she's a shifter."

"Ohhh...is she the girl you mentioned with the bully problems?"

"Yeah. Being a shifter ain't easy. I've been trying to toughen her up, teach her how to fight back...but you know how shifters are. When they see someone making fangs at them the human part of their head says cower where their wolf part should say snarl back. It makes them easy prey for bullies. That and everything else about being a shifter."

Beastpeople are usually all furry all the time. But that's not so with the offspring they have with humans called shape-shifters. They shift from a purely human form to a purely beastperson form. Depending on the lineage and breed this transformation can be triggered by the moon, by moods, or simply at will. But regardless of hereditary beastpeople universally have problems fitting in. Are they human or are they werewolf? Rarely do they find a happy medium. Humans find them too aggressive. Werewolves find them too passive. Their body language is a confusing blend of both races.

>>995111
Human and werewolf foods taste odd to them, they tend to be extremely picky eaters. They feel the primal Howl that connects all members of a pack, but they feel it at a weaker level. So when they respond to the Howl humans find them weird. When they don't respond to the Howl werewolves find them weird. They also tend to be physically weaker than full-blooded werewolves, even when fully in werewolf form, but their human forms are strong enough to accidentally break things like doors.

In being from both world they find that they fit in neither. It's a story that's repeated the world over every day.

It's something your kids will have to deal with that neither you nor Winnie have seriously talked about yet...

"So Sally gets picked on a lot?"

"Yeah. And she tells me not to worry, that she's doing fine, but you know shifters-can't hide a tell worth a damn, lose absolutely everything you play poker against them. It's getting worse. And I think it might be because they know I'm her friend. I don't look so tough sense White Fell and now they're trying to take advantage of that."

"So what are we doing here?"

"I've heard she sometimes gets jumped after her shift. I'm going to see if I can catch them in the act."

"God that's horrible...So you're going to take them down if you catch them?"

"I'm hoping I won't have to. I'm hoping Sally stands up for herself and fights back."

>Say/Do?

>Sally shouldn't have to fight back. Getting bullied is wrong. We should protect her! (More human)

Push towards using words but also nudge towards teaching Sally how to have some confidence in herself.

TIED

>Ask Winnie why she wanted you here

"I don't know if I could be of any use in a scrap though. I mean I'd just get in the way."

"Well I'm not expecting you to put anyone in a full nelson-besides, ya never get the finger placement right-but if we're going to be serious about you and me then you're going to have to start acting like my mate, and the mate of an Alpha helps an Alpha."

"But what can I do?"

"Well you said it yourself genius. "Speak with the voice of the pack, to the pack". You helped me get my confidence back after White Fell licked me, you helped convince her to turn her back on her twisted pack, and you did it all without having super strength or claws. Ya got more uses then you know Anon." Winnie ruffles her hand through your hair. "I don't date wimps. You're strong in your own kind of way."

>>995159
Werewolves are extremely monogamous and family focused-even more so than humans. It's how they're able to form such strong, supportive communities even while being hyper-aggressive and hyper-competitive. They're big on family values. Adultery is a huge, huge, huge taboo and is seen as a sin against the pack itself.

Their sexual mores are the complete opposite of vampires basically.

Winnie knows a family is going to be hard. But she's a fighter. She doesn't back down because something is hard. So yeah, she wants to have lots and lots of shifter pups with you.

We can choose to deal with raising pups trapped between worlds or Became a werewolf . It's not an easy decision.

Belief in self steadily rising. Prepare to become the grand speechcraft guy of wolf-kind.

Ask Winnie if she can give you a quick tl;dr on the whole White Fell situation she brought up earlier.

What does White Fell do while Anon is away from home? Can't imagine he crates her until he gets back.
>>
>>995194
I am leaning towards hoping she fights back, but I sincerely think words may need to be used. Realistically, its a matter of finding a way to stand up for herself. There are plenty of ways to do it.

>Anti Adultery

Remember when people wanted anons to go harem. Yeah I am sincerely hoping it doesn't go that way with that news.

It's not that kind of anime. That being said, there are some kinky things werewolves can do with multiple partners, but they're extremely touchy about the particulars. Winnie is the only one you'll be making the beast with two backs with unless you want to invite hurt feelings and drama.

>Wolf

"Well, you're right. If she wants to hang out with the pack she needs to learn to stand up like a werewolf. If things get bad though I'm going to try to defuse things before they turn violent."

Winnie nods. "And if that doesn't work-" She cracks her knuckles. "-I got something that will."

You see a demure looking woman with red hair tied back in a ponytail in a waitress outfit walk out of the cafe. She pulls a bulky black leather jacket around herself, looks right, then left, then takes a deep breath and starts walking down the street.

A group of three female werewolves stare at her with wolfish smiles from across the street.

Sally glances at them once, then quickly turns away and continues walking.

"Damn it, no!" Winnie mutters to herself. "Don't turn and walk away!"

In a flash they cut her off.

"What's the jacket?" The tallest one of the group, a grey furred wolf with long black hair, pokes Sally's shoulder.

"That's new."

"What? You think it makes you look tough?" Her toadies add.

"Don't touch it..." Sally flinches from the poke. "It's...special..."

"Ohhhhh...its a special jacket." The leader says. Her toadies giggle cruelly. "Hear that girls? Halfer here has special clothes. Now ain't that just human? You see Halfer, we werewolves aren't so vain like you humans. We just have clothes. We don't have "special" clothes. Unlike fatass chimps we're too active, we wear out what we wear..." She flicks out a claw and brings it close to the jacket. "Why wear something that's just going to ripped, am I right?"

"Don't you dare!" Sally shrieks as she pulls away. "This is my father's jacket!"

The trio of bullies howl with laughter.

You notice some werewolves are starting to watch the scene, some with their jaws clenched in anger, some with a tired look in their eyes.

"Come on Sally girl, just punch them!" Winnie clenches her fists.

"Oh, that's your father's jacket? Oh how ADORABLE! Why it fits on you just like a blanket! But hey, it probably wouldn't fit any better in your werewolf form."

"Just let me through Melody..." Sally holds her arm.

"Now you know the rules Halfer. You know only real wolves walk these streets with their heads held proud and high. Halfers got to lower them. And ask please. On their knees."

Sally looks down and sighs.

"Hey Mel, I know what this jacket is about." One of her toadies says. "She thinks we won't kick her ass if she's wearing something important to her! Is that if Halfer?"

"Is that it?" Melody smirks. "You think reminding us that your daddy was a wolf is going to get you anything, that you can use that part of you like some kind of fucking shield?"

"Just let me by Melody..."

"Typical Halfer. You hate being wolf until it can get you something. And when it can't you go crawling back into the arms of humans."

"I...I AM a werewolf..." Sally says.
>>
>>995371
"You sure are missing a lot of hair for a werewolf Halfer..." One toadie says.

"Yeah." The other adds. "She knows we can't mess her up too bad if she stays weak like that."

"Well yeah." Melody says. "When it benefits her she's back to ol' weak human form, afraid of the big bad wolves hurting her. It's why you voted for Jones isn't it Halfer? You hate how powerful we are. You hate how powerful the pack is. You want us to be weak. It's why you like Winnie. You want us to be weaklings just like her!"

"Winnie is not weak...and I didn't vote for him because of that..."

"Bull!" Melody snarls. "You voted for him because you want us leashed!"

"I just...I just want to see us integrate more with-"

""Integrate!" God you Halfers love that word. Let's work more with humans! It'll be fun! Just because you get to have a miserable life watching yourself around the bleeders doesn't mean we want to."

"I don't want to fight you..." Sally steps forward. "I just want to get home."

"Ohhhhh. Halfer sounded like she meant it!" Melody steps forward, claws inches from Sally's face. "You going to transform this time, or are you going to get on your knees like every time before? Better decide before I turn that precious jacket of yours to confetti..."

Well, we could always step in the moment that they try to go after her jacket, right? Could always act as a distraction to save the precious jacket.

For what its worth, its probably a matter of balancing it out. And we want to see her rise up.

That and it has litterally been almost a year and a half since last winnie quest. Give it some time.

"Come on Sally girl, don't let them push ya around..." Winnie says.

Sally takes a deep breathe, then stares directly at Melody.

Melody glares back. But Sally doesn't flinch.

"I didn't wear this jacket so you would have mercy on me Melody." Sally says taking the jacket off. "I wore it to remind myself that I...am...a wolf!"

Dark red fur spreads across her body. Her hands enlarge into claws. Her eyes turn a brilliant shade of green.

Melody tilts her head curiously. "Huh. Well something's made you brave. Got to say that surprises me Halfer."

"Get used to being surprised." Sally places her jacket carefully on a nearby bench. She kicks off her shoes and drops into a fighting stance.

"You seriously want to rumble with me Halfer?"

"You don't get out of my way I'm going to move you Melody."

"You think I'm going to hold back because you're a Halfer?" Melody growls. "Because I won't. You stay in that form girl and I will beat the hell out of you. I'll beat you until you submit."

"More like I'll beat you until you apologize for treating me like dirt!" Sally growls back.

"Last chance. And only because I got too much of a rep to beat up weaklings. Turn back into human now or I'm kicking your ass."

Sally shakes her head.

"Alright Halfer. We'll do things your way." Melody grins wickedly. "I wonder if it'll be the first punch or the second that has you howling for mercy? I think it was the first or second wife that made your old man go crying to a human for lovin'..."

"W-What?..." Sally drops her guard in shock.

Which was long enough for Melody to close the gap between the two of them, knee aimed squarely for Sally's stomach...

Sally's eyes go wide as the breathe is knocked out of her.
She doubles over, swings a slow, weak fist at Melody who grabs her arm and sweeps her leg out from under her, dropping her hard to the concrete below.

You see cracks start forming in the concrete as she batters her head with powerful strikes of her claw.

Werewolves are nigh-impossible to kill without devices that disrupt their internal alchemy, like silver. But they still feel pain-both physical pain and the pain of humiliation. Pain and humiliation are how fights are decided.

"You done now Halfer?" Melody licks the bloodstained tips of her claw. "I can taste the fear in your blood. I bet no one ever hit you like I hit you before eh?"

Winnie growls and shakes in anger. "Cheap shot...Cheap fucking shot!" She mutters as the pupils of her eyes begin to shift to feral slits.

I recommend staying around for this one. All the backstory you really need to know is that Winnie is pack Alpha and recently lost some prestige and Anon is trying to help her recover that prestige.

Already voted and not changing it. But I have to admit the idea of diplomacy failing and all but asking Winnie to come over has a cinematic charm to it. We'll see if we get a chance for such a write in.

Anon scopes out the three wolfs attacking the halfwolf! What does he notice about them? Do they seem to have any physical traits above and beyond? Can Anon gauge the age of all people involved in this scuffle or would Winnie possibly know?

(Sorry I'm a fan of your character designing skills)

>sit and wait.
The runts of the pack stop being treated like runts by standing up for themselves, right?

Curious about this as well Questguy, can halfpups earn respect in a pack or are they just kind of kept around?
>>
>>996017
Melody is fairly tall and willowy. One of her cronies has her black hair and grey fur and might be a sister. The other is a yellow furred werewolf with long silvery white hair done up in braids. Her ears are particularly large-she probably has some fox in her ancestry.

They all seem to be young werewolves, either in their late teens or early twenties.

>>995959
>>995996

"That was a cheap shot Melody!" You say as you step out of the alley.

All eyes turn to you. Sally reaches up to grab at Melody's shoulder just to have her arm casually slapped away.

"Oh. It's you." Melody's eyes narrow. "The wannabe that watches cartoons."

"Get off of her. Don't you have any honor? The only reason you have her at a disadvantage was because you hit her when she dropped her guard."

"Her fault for letting me get into her head." She growls. "Hell, maybe its not even a lie the way she reacted to it."

"Get...OFF ME!" Sally yells as she shoves Melody off of her and rises panting to a crouch. Red lines on her face slowly close.

"Ready for round 2 Halfie?"

"It's still round 1! I didn't quit!"

"You would if your boyfriend over there didn't step in. You chasing after a human like your old man Halfie?"

Sally growls and enters a low crouch ready to pounce.

You get between the two wolves. "Sally, calm down. She's acted dishonorably. You can call her on it."

"I...I can what?"

"Damn it. Get out of the way stupid bleeder!" Melody yells.

"Call her on it. You can challenge her but on your terms."

"You really need a human to explain the rules to you Halfie?"

"Shut it Melody!" Sally jerks forward.

"Woah woah woah!" You spread your arms out in front of her. "She's counting on you not thinking clearly with the super-adrenaline. You go into battle mode when your healing factor kicks in, remember?"

Sally looks at you and pants. Then nods. "Y-Yeah...I'm not thinking clearly..."

Melody mockingly rolls her eyes. "Oh Halfie, you gonna hide behind a bleeder? Did you do this when you were little with your mom? Oh wait I forgot, she raised you among humans. And that's not a lie."

"YOU FUCKING BITCH!" Sally yells.

"Call off your boyfriend and lets get back to it Halfie..."

>Say/Do?

>Get out of the way. This is Sally's moment to fight.

>Tell Sally she should play this smart. Take advantage of the honor penalty and schedule a fight.

>Sic em Winnie! (She's still in the alley, watching you work)

>>996057
>>996099
Halfpups can definitely earn respect, but they got to earn it like any other wolf.

Those that involve themselves in the rough and tumble pack life earn respect be they full blood or shifters. It's why a full blood like Char is simply tolerated (she doesn't socialize) while Sally has a job at the biggest Werewolf Cafe in town (she already has a degree of respect, just not as a fighter...not yet).
>>
>>996099
Halfpup is also a really cute nickname. I think I'll use it as a kind nickname for shifters as opposed to Halfie.
>>
>>996106
>Tell Sally she should play this smart. Take advantage of the honor penalty and schedule a fight.

If nothing else, its wise to try. If Melody gets upitty it might be time to call out whether she disrespects some time honoured rules.

If she starts getting more upitty, then we step away, and if Sally AND Winnie just happen to show up...well ain't that convenient.
>>
>>996106
What exactly does Sally gain from fighting on her terms? The important thing is that she wins or fights well in a fair fight, right? Isn't this close enough now that she seems to have healed from the cheap shot?

Not voting against it, not yet at least, just want to better understand our options here.
>>
>>996106
>Tell Sally she should play this smart. Take advantage of the honor penalty and schedule a fight.

If word got out that Melody was dishonoring old werewolf rules it would hurt her reputation she was talking about earlier.
>>
>>996130

Calm, collected, time to talk to Anon and Winnie; if she fights on her own terms it'll be at a slightly later point.

>>996106
Play it smart Sally, no sense in fighting when honor is lost, that isn't the way of the wolves and Melody knows it.

Wait... question Melody on the mind games while she's semi-focused on why small human manguy is suddenly spinning all sorts of awesome wolf lore. She's not wrong for using them, she just doesn't seem like the kind of person who would need them.

Er... yeah so Sally wait it out and plan for a future fight, ask Melody in a semi-compliment manner why she's bothering with mind games if shes capable of holding her own in a fight with or without a halfpup as the opponent. Play on wolf pride!
>>
Alright,
>>996138 and >>996148 convinced me, volting for playing it smart.

"Sally, chill. You can challenge her to resume the fight at a time and place of your choosing but that only applies if you say something. Otherwise this fight is still on."

"Come on and fight me Halfie!" Melody yells. "What? You want some time to cower?"]

Sally looks around uncertainly.

"She's playing mind games with you Sally. She's trying to get any advantage over you she can...." You turn to Melody. "Speaking of which, why are you using mind games if you're capable of holding your own in a fight with a halfpup?"

"It's called cunning Bleeder." Melody growls. "It's called the fighter with the quick mind taking advantage of the fighter going on fear and instinct. A real werewolf wouldn't have to worry about getting played."

"Using a cheap shot is dishonorable. Even if you play with the rules to make it technically okay."

"If she was really one of us it wouldn't work on her."

"I HATE you Melody!" Sally growls. "You...you hateful bitch! I'm not going to let you play me. We'll fight later. And I'll make you submit to me!"

"I just want you to realize that this creepy Bleeder groupie that Winnie likes for god-knows what reason didn't get fooled by something that tricked you. What does that say Halfie?"

"I'm NOT going to let you trick me into continuing this."

"Well well well. It looks like you can control your feelings-as long as a Bleeder is here to hold your leash."

"Bitch! You-You...Bitch!"

"Halfie! Name the time and place!"

"Same time tomorrow, same location."

"Then why don't we just fight now?"

"Because I want there to be a CROWD and I want there to be STAKES!"

Melody smirks. "Oh ho ho! You trying to play mind games with me now?"

"COLLARS. Loser has to wear a COLLAR!" Sally snaps. A cute adorable PET COLLAR!"

The onlooking werewolves begin to mutter excitedly to themselves.

You notice a slight twitch in Melody's expression.

"...You don't want to say that Halfie."

"What? You scared Melody?"

"Because you make those the stakes I will take you up on it. I really will."

"Good!"

>Talk Sally down from these stakes (Human)
But don't seem like we're doubting her. Say that trying to humiliate someone while they're down is below Sally, and just beating Melody will be good enough.
>>
>>996291

<3 Sally lives another day.

I'm saying allow Sally to go through with the fight tomorrow; if the worst thing to happen is a chance at kinship and a collar so be it. If she wins hopefully a friendship can bloom and her rival wears some cute hot pink collar or something, if she loses she's stuck wearing a collar and she gets some respect for taking on a full blown wolf.

Halfpup literally loses nothing if she fights on this end.

I move to go talk to Melody after calming down Sally. Let's learn more about this anger and why exactly it's here in the first place. It seems out of place for her to just hunt Sally down, maybe there is something more there? Melody already shows she's not willing to pummel a human, or at least a non-fuzzed halfpup so I can't imagine she's just going to deck Anon in the schnoz.
>>
>>996291
>Sally is showing a lot of guts. Win or lose it'll prove she's tough. You approve. (Wolf)

If she doesn't win there's no point to challenging, posturing, and threatening. Besides, that'll really put it to those assholes
>>
>>996325
Pretty sure the only reason she ain't decking us is the whole, "Alpha backed human" issue. That and general not wanting the entire pack against her. Just a hunch.

As to why. Pretty sure its magical racism.
>>
>>996339

I still think it might be interesting to push into the bounds and find out if there might be some information to be gathered regardless. Winnie wants us to be the talker, might as well start at a point of conflict?

Not to mention it's a juicy opening for a possible ally at some point depend. Anon sticking his neck out to learn more might benefit him as well.
>>
>>996339
>>996325
>Not decking Anon

Humans are culturally sacrosanct to Werewolves because humans don't have a healing factor and werewolves punch through concrete. Werewolf kids are taught from a young age to never, ever, ever hit a human kid. Because werewolves, unlike vampires, like getting along with humanity-at least to the extent of being able to live in their society.

A werewolf accidentally gibbing a human creates a giant shitshow for the entire pack, and so hitting a human for whatever reason is a huge no-no.

>>996339
>>996359
>reason

It has a lot to do with Sally voting for Jones who wants to tighten surveillance and control over pack territory
>>
>>996433

So is it pretty common to find humans just palling around in the more open-minded packs?

I still push for mingling with Melody. The risk of getting imploded via fuzzy fisticuffs has more or less been thrown out the window. Might as well get to know the trio.

"It's more than how you were born Halfie. It's how you are. Go on and play the innocent victim if you want. Your kind always likes shifting roles to suit your needs."

"What the hell did I do? What the hell have I EVER done to you Melody?"

"You voted for Jones."

"He just wants us to integrate. That's no reason to treat me like-"

"That's all the reason anyone needs." Melody turns and starts to walk away with her cronies. "I doubt you'll actually show up. You're going to get scared. You're probably going to find Winnie and beg her to save you. But on the off chance you do show up-"

"Oh I'm going to show up!"

"Well if you do, try not to cry when I slap the collar on you. Try to show you can show submission without crying like a Bleeder."

"You're the one whose going to cry Melody! You hear me! I'm going to make you cry!" She calls down the sidewalk as Melody walks away.

The werewolves busily chatter around around you and Sally.

"...She's a lot stronger than I thought..."

"Is she really going to?"

"Poor girl is just going to get humiliated..."

"...Get the girls together to talk with her. She's going to need some comforting after..."

"I hope she kicks her ass! Melody's been begging to get taken down for a long time!"

"Poor little Halfpup. She's never been in a serious fight before has she?"

Sally smiles and nods and smiles and nods and smiles and nods. When the crowd finally clears she looks like she's about ready to fall over.

"...Oh God Anon..." She whispers to you. "I think I've really screwed up here..." She touches her throat. "I'm gonna have to wear a collar...its probably going to be pink..."

"Sally you were really awesome." You say as the crowd starts to clear. "You stood your ground and you told her exactly what you felt."

Your group has to fight its way through werewolves wanting to congratulate or warn or hug Sally but eventually the three of you find a nice quiet table in the back.

You know exactly what to order-the coffee and the deer steak. Sally chews on, of all things, a stalk of celery. Shifter tastes ARE strange.

"So this is your first challenge Sally?" You ask. "That's sort of rare isn't it? Don't most wolves start challenging when they hit puberty?"

"I didn't grow up in the community." Sally explains. "What that bitch Melody said about my mom raising me with humans was true. She...she loves the pack. And the pack loves her. You remember that crazy ice vampire that kept attacking werewolf women? He bit my mom because she was with a group at the time and he thought she was a shifter. That's how much of a wolf she is deep down where it counts. But she wanted me to be raised as human. She wanted me to grow up with human friends in human society."

"Why did she raise you human if you don't mind me asking?" You ask.

"I don't mind. She said it was because she was a human mother, and she wasn't sure if she could give me the childhood I deserved if she tried to raise me as anything but a human. It's not like she taught me to be ashamed of my wolf side or anything like that. She told me that it was a gift I would grow into when I became a teen. And I had my father, and he would take me out into the woods and I'd cut loose with him and have fun."

"But your human side was taught to be dominant?"

"It was either that or terrify the hell out of my classmates. You catch on real quick what's appropriate and what's not appropriate as a kid. You don't sniff kids, you don't wrestle with girls, when you get a little older you don't wrestle even with the boys because you could hurt them, you don't bare your teeth, you don't growl...dad would sometimes get upset. I mean he agreed to raise me human until I was a teen and got introduced to the pack, but there were times he thought my mom went to far. I remember my first kill for instance. "Well, my first bird was...not so cool. See, human kids are werewolf pups both do this thing when they see birds on the ground and try to get as close to them as possible. But the human kid wouldn't know what to do if he actually grabbed a bird. The pup on the other hand has instincts that tell them exactly what to do. So one day in the playground I'm chasing birds with some of the other human kids and I actually grab one. The bird freaks the hell out and my wolf instincts kick in and I snap its neck. Now I don't think I've done anything wrong. But the other kids start to cry and screaming that I killed the bird and I start crying because they're crying and I'm holding this bird in all these different ways hoping I can make it move again and then a wing comes off and one little girl faints..."

"When I made my first kill my sister Ginger gave me a hug and bought me a snow cone." Winnie says.

"Well I feel like a monster, but dad's all excited about his only daughter making her first kill and can't wait to show me how to catch squirrel out of trees and fish out of streams and he's telling me that killing is a natural part of life and I shouldn't be ashamed of it and that he's so proud of me and so on and so forth-and then mom walks in with tears in her eyes, grabs me, and tells me never to do anything like that ever again. She tells me that I'm going to have to move and change schools and then dad gets pissed saying that mom's stifling my heritage...but you know, she just didn't want me to be thought of as a freak. I was in the same school district some metahuman boy blew up a jungle gym. Tensions were already high. But I guess you can see my point. I was raised human before wolf."

"I'm sorry." You say. "it sounds rough."

"It's no secret being a shifter is rough. It's the whole "trapped between two worlds" deal. I mean the goal is to find a balance but regardless of what you do one side is going to have to come before the other. There's just no way to always have it 50/50. Were there bad parts about being raised human? Yeah. Do I regret it? Honestly no. The human world is something I feel beastpeople close themselves off from way too readily. It's human alchemy that created us after all, and its human science that creates new kinds of life like the Questlings everyday. I got connections and friends I just plain wouldn't have being raised wolf. If I make it out of my next semester okay I'm lined up to start interning at Questlabs."

Every Ghoul Quest Anon is called Anon, but its more like a JoJo thing. Each Anon has his own personality and characteristics. The Anon of Phantasma Quest is a tryhard film noir fan. The Anon of Sibella Quest is a socially stunted goofball Catholic Ninja Jedi.

Admittedly, we're a little biased though. Given the whole, being a human thing.

Point out that both her human side and her wolf side should rise above the other from time to time depending on circumstances. Sometimes the wolf has to lead, other times the human has to lead. Balance be damned 100 percent of the time but each side of her.

It'd be foolish to squander the gift/curse that both provide at different points.

"Werewolves are too insular. Its good to branch out." You say. "We don't want the pack to become like a a vampire family. If you close yourself off from the world long enough eventually you'll start widening the cracks between things on the inside until you turn on one another."

"It's why I keep this clown with me." Winnie says. "I know a thing or two about vampires, and I know that their isolation is not something we want to emulate."

"If you ask me though Sally." You continue. "I think your human and wolf side should rise above the other from time to time depending on the circumstance. I hear a lot of talk about how weak halfpups are or how bad things are for them but I think you guys really have something that can be a gift."

"That's what my parents always said." Sally says. "And you're right. Most of the time I default to human modes and human habits, but I would be a fool to deny the wolf part of my heritage. Even if its a smaller part of me it is still a part of me. And I hang out with wolves, I go on prowls and nature hikes. I got a job here. Sure, I've never gone hunting and I don't think I'm ever going to want to, and I don't like fighting...I never thought I'd ever get into a challenge...but I like to think I AM a wolf. Maybe I'm just a little wolf, a runt even, but I'm a wolf."

"Glad to hear that you're feeding your wolf." You say.

"When I first got introduced to the pack when I was 13 I thought they were going to hate me...but I have to say I was won over by how friendly everyone is. Compared to how reserved and private humans are it was sort of refreshing. Sure there were people that were cold to me. Melody for instance. But I was won over the moment Ms. Grimtooth offered me a place in her sewing class. I never felt like I had to prove myself as a wolf, not like how I had to constantly prove myself to be human...until now..."

"It's my fault..." Winnie sighs.

"It's not..." Sally says.

"No really, in a very real way it is." Winnie says. "The pack is becoming uncertain. The pack is becoming afraid. I have felt uncertainty and fear so I know the pack feels it as well. They were accepting because they were strong and confident, because I was strong and confident. The Howl flows to m and the Howl flows from me."

She's right.

As Alpha the Howl of the pack flows through her. The ectoplasm based telepathy created in vampires through Renaissance alchemy was very selfish. It was made for individual use and individual domination of a mass of people through mesmerism. The ectoplasm based telepathy in beastpeople created through Enlightenment alchemy is communal. It is shared throughout an entire pack through the focal point of the Alpha.

The Renaissance alchemists wanted to created a race of benevolent superhumans with the blood of all kinds of humanity flowing through their immortal bodies and transferring that immortality on to others by offering their blood. They believed progress was in the direction of the perfectly developed individual.

The Enlightenment alchemists wanted to create a perfect society where everyone would feel wanted and connected, where the voices of the ruled would always be heard by the ruler, where the guilty could not lie to authority. They chose wolves for their experiments, and created a race of beings that shared their empathic powers through The Howl. They believed progress was in the direction of the perfectly formed society.

Winnie's pack feels what she feels and in turn she feels what they feel. If they feel confident she feels confident. If she feels discouraged they feel discouraged. And it is not always clear if one causes the other to feel a certain way or if its the other way around.

But it is clear that her public shaming by White Fell has caused feelings previously held in check by pack members to become brazenly expressed.

"...Well maybe I can help things." Sally says. "Its going to suck to wear a pet collar, but if I show Melody I got a wolf's courage maybe it'll show others that have their doubts about me. What was that you said Anon about when a group becomes insular they start widening cracks inside their group? I think that's what the pack has been doing since White Fell. We're directing our frustrations inward. I guess we're more like vampires than it seems."

"I've always said we were." Winnie says. "But speaking of directing our frustrations inward...is that what you're doing by voting for Jones?"

"Oh boy..." Sally looks away guiltily. "I figured we were going to have to talk about it sooner or later..."

"Why did you do it?" Winnie asks. "The guy wants to put us under surveillance. He wants G-men to walk around our communities and watch us like we're zoo exhibits or something."

"I want us to prove to him and others that we don't have anything to hide. Fighting back against Jones is just going to make his suspicious."

"Sally, all packs work hard to keep good relations with humans." Winnie says. "We use human technology and human buildings and human civilization. We know this. We know the least we can do is behave ourselves. To suddenly roll over and say "come on in please monitor us" makes it look like we don't have faith in our time proven ability to keep to peacefully coexist."

-cont
>>
>>998504
"Our communities are something people see from the outside." Sally replies. "Its not enough to just keep the peace. We have to actively show people we want to cooperate."

"Sally. Anon said there's a time for your human side and there's a time for your wolf side. When it comes to Jones you need to show fangs."

I'm normally the most passive person in the world but holy shit I think Sally needs a helping push and I think Winnie needs to see Anon make that push too. Also wow thats uh.. jeez the lore is taking some deep turns I wasn't expecting. Digging the weak hivemind logic for wolves and really glad we learned more about this Jones guy. Actually Jones being a prick is exactly why Sally needs a wake up call from the wolf side of things, if she's pushing the idea for the sake of human/wolf mingling from a disrespectful side I can only imagine how many others in the pack itself might be nudging along the same path.

Ask Winnie about her take on how humanity has treated wolves to this point.

"Sally, rolling over and showing throat didn't help you with Melody. It's not going to help with Jones." You say. "And I'd like to think that for the most part, humanity has been perfectly happy with how things have gone so far between the local werewolf communities and humans. Case in point." You point at yourself.

"Well...did it really help with Melody though?" Sally says quickly changing the subject. "She's going to kick my ass and because of my big mouth I'm going to have to wear a collar, and she's probably going to take pictures and put them on the internet!"

"You're assuming you'll lose." Winnie says. "I reckon ya got a pretty good chance at beating her."

"I'm not a fighter! I don't like fighting! A full-blood like Melody has been scrapping sense she was a girl. While she was learning how to grapple I was learning how to be gentle, there's no contest here!"

"So you lose." Winnie shrugs. "It doesn't matter. What does matter is standing up to her and getting some hits in as you go down."

"Yeah..." Sally admits. "It would feel good just to hit her. Just to get it through to her how she makes me feel...but still, I...I wish it didn't have to come to this. I thought if I let her tease me a couple of times she'd get it out of her system or she'd get tired of me."

"You tried reacting to her as a human." You say. "You should have reacted to her like a wolf."

"I guess you're right..." Sally sighs sadly, her ears folding back on her head. "I...I don't know why I thought it would work. When I was a girl momma drilled into me that I needed to always deescalate conflict. If someone teased me I should let them because they were humans and I could hurt them if I hit them."

"Trust me. Melody can take a beating." Winnie says. "And you really owe her now for that cheap shot and ground and pound she did on you."

"Maybe it was because I've been able to be human as a beastperson. I don't spar, I don't hunt...I guess that made me feel I could make the human way work in this case."

"I'm sorry this isn't one of those moments where the human way works." You say. "Its like I said, sometimes you need to be the wolf, sometimes you need to be a human."

"...I'm trying to be a good wolf..." Sally pulls her father's jacket close like a blanket. "I want to be a good wolf. I feel like I owe it to my papa and my friends...and myself. I just...I'm just...damn it, shes making me feel like I'm a fake. For the first time in a long, long time I feel like a fake wolf..." She shakes as her fangs grit together. "And I hate her for doing that to me...I hate her so much..."

-cont
>>
>>998862
"Sally..." Winnie touches her friend's shoulder. "...You're not a fake wolf. You're very brave standing up to her. Everyone knows that even in your wolf form your instincts are a mix of human and wolf. To get slashed and stabbed and beaten up, that doesn't trigger fear in us like it does in humans...unless we're a shifter...beastpeople value courage. And you're being very courageous standing up to her. You're a real wolf."

"...I hate fighting..." Sally brushes tears out of her green eyes. "I hate hurting and being hurt, I hate bleeding, I hate feeling tense...its fun for beastpeople but for me its the furthest thing from fun...I mean you saw me. I got so tense starring her down that I let her play headgames with me. I totally dropped my guard when she called papa an adulterer. And I made that stupid wager because I felt like I had to say something to make myself look tough and confident after that beating she gave me..."

"I keep trying to get you to spar with me." Winnie says. "It'll make you feel less tense. Honest."

"I do martial arts." You say. "Sometimes even with Winnie. It really does help."

"Yeah...well...its a little late to start training though." Sally says.

"Well there's always the rematch to train for." Winnie says. "But we'll see if you need that. Melody isn't a fighter. She's a bully. Her rep is built on posturing. You go at her and go at her strong you can take her."

Ask Winnie if she has any advice for fighting Melody, she's bound to know some sort of advice about one of her pack mate's strengths or weaknesses in combat.

Even if the fight goes a bit south maybe that last minute bit of advice could help save the day and turn into a win for Sally.

Other than that I move for next scene!

>>998907
Sally needs to work on staying calm and collected. Melody's a bully she feeds on emotion and uses it to her advantage. Being a filthy weeaboo, I assume Anon has some form of "ancient" meditation for staying calm. Heck, he tried slowing down his heart rate during the White Fell incident, so he must have something worth teaching her.

"Hey Winnie, last minute advice is still advice. Is there anything you can tell Sally about Melody's strengths and weaknesses, anything at all?"

"I'll take anything Winnie. No matter how small it seems." Sally says.

"She likes showboating. Look for an opening." Winnie says. "And she doesn't think much of you. If you look like you're weakening she's going to believe it. Maybe you can play some of your own mind games with her? Strategy wise she likes attacking fast and not letting up. She likes overwhelming her opponents in one quick blast but she tires herself out quickly. Don't be afraid to turtle up and let her drain herself."

Sally nods, and listens intently to Winnie's advice.

"Thank you." Sally says. "I think I got some strategy going now...I hope I don't screw it up...

"You won't." You say. "You gained respect today, both from the pack and Melody even if she won't admit it. And you'll gain more respect tomorrow. You can go ahead and chalk up today as a lost battle. You can go ahead and chalk up tomorrow as another loss. But you've won the war Sally."

"Why doesn't it feel like it then?" Sally asks.

"Because you're nervous and scared. It's the season for those sentiments in the pack, its like a psychic cold season. But whatever point Melody is trying to make about you not being a wolf you're refuting. Look at how everyone talked to you after you stood up to her. They're on your side, not hers."

"I...I think you're right." Sally smiles for the first time today. "I'm just worried I'm going to see people take her side when she beats me. She's going to say something like "Look, she's not a werewolf, she's just a Halfie! Look how easily I beat her! She wouldn't be wearing this collar if she learned how to fight as a girl like normal pups!""

"Quit sayin' she's gonna beat ya!" Winnie smacks the back of her head. "The fight ain't over. It hasn't even started yet! So don't go and say you're licked when you aren't!"

"Anyone that takes her side tomorrow is going to find ten times as many on your side. You're Sally. You work the Cafe. People like you." You say. "And Winnie is right. Stop selling yourself short. You see that jacket? That jacket you're wearing right now? You fought for it. And its still yours."

Sally squeezes her jacket tight.

"Wolves protect what is theirs. That's what you do."

You share a brief, meaningful glance with Winnie. The night you confessed your undying love to her she protected you from White Fell.

"Thank you Anon..." Sally says. "I'm starting to feel a little better about this whole mess."

"See? It's like I told ya Sally." Winnie says. "Anon is handy with that way with words stuff he has."

"I might be able to help you feel even better." You say. "There's probably not enough time to teach you some moves, but Winnie and I should be able to teach you how to control your breathing."

"What? Like holding my breathe?" Sally asks. "How is that going to help me?"

"Ya really don't know?" Winnie asks. "I know you haven't fought in your life but I thought that was something that came naturally, even to shifters?"

"Uh...I don't know what we're talking about here..."

"In a fight its important to control your breathing. Its one of the first things you learn. I saw you panting heavily during your scuffle today so I figured you might need to work on it. You learn to breathe right it'll help you keep your composure. It'll help you keep your calm."

"Shifters don't control their breathing in a fight...Learn something new everyday..." Winnie mutters. "Hey Sally, do you know how to swim?"

"Yeah..." Sally sighs. "I know how to swim. Isn't that just a general mammal thing?"

"I leave the sciency stuff to Elsa." Winnie says. "But the important thing is that we can help you work on breathing fast! Come on!" Winnie stands up and grabs Sally's arm.

"H-Hey!" She gasps. "What are you-"

"We're going to spar!"

"What, now?"

"We're on the clock!"

"C-Can we get padding or something? Maybe some mats?"

"Ha...Ah...Ah..." Sally pants as Winnie straddles her chest with her hands on her shoulders. "Can't we just...do breathing exercises?"

"Naw." Winnie says. "Its not going to do any good if you start panicking when you get tossed around. Now chill."

Sally closes her eyes and takes a deep breathe. "Okay...Okay...now I'm red-AH!"

Winnie punches her in the face and she starts writing underneath her.

"Push with your legs. That's how ya generate power. Don't just try to shove me off with your arms."

"Damn it Winnie! I wasn't ready!"

"Don't talk. Breathe and think. Don't talk, especially if she starts trash talking. It'll mess up the rhythm of your breathing."

"I'm going to try and talk to Melody." You say.

"Rargh!" Sally shouts as she flips Winnie over onto her back and fires a fist into her face.

"Hey! That was a good move!" Winnie says taking a blow on the cheek.

Sally fires another fist, and in a flash Winnie catches it with her hand.

Sally gasps at her speed.

"Good power, but don't put ya thumb on the inside. Ya risk breaking it that way. And breathe will ya?" Winnie rolls with Sally on the ground until she comes up on top, arms wrapped around her throat. "Roll ya hips, try to throw me over your shoulder and...oh yeah. go ahead Anon. Melody and her cronies usually hang out at the docks on Harlan street...hey Sally are ya tappin' out or trying to claw my arm? Because you need to really dig the claws in if ya...oh, ya are tappin..."

.....

You find Melody and her girls relaxing on a warehouse roof. The tall werewolf girl rests her head on her hands and stares straight up at the midday sky. A group of low-ectoplasma ghosts flitter about the docks like balls of fain blue light moving boxes and crates into the warehouse.

One orb with a tiny black longshoreman's cap, probably signaling him as the foreman, floats up to you.

You feel a twinge of pity as he constructs himself into floating letters. The poor ghost doesn't have enough ectoplasma or enough control over what he's got to vibrate words.

SAW YOU LOOKING AT THE WOLF GIRL UP THERE. YOU KNOW HER?

"Yeah I know her. Her name's Melody." You reply.

JUST GET HER OUT OF HERE PLEASE. SHE IS MAKING PEOPLE NERVOUS WITH HER WOLF STALKING NONSENSE. The ghost letters quiver slightly under the strain. The ghost foreman's longshoreman hat tilts on the last N of nonsense and falls to the ground.

"Hey wait!" You call out as the ghost starts to move away. "You forgot your hat!"

The ghost stops, reverses direction, and hovers silently next to you.

You carefully fix the hat on its round body.

THANK YOU :)

"You're welcome." You watch the foreman ghost hover down the docks to the constellation chain of orbs lifting out crates from a boat. You start climbing up a rusty ladder. It squeaks under your weight. Humans haven't worked these docks in at least a decade.

.....

"I made a mistake Thorn." Melody says to one of her cronies sitting next to her, the gold furred wolf with the big ears. "I can't deny it anymore. You saw how they congratulated her. I kick her ass, make her wear a collar, it won't matter. It won't make my point. She's the underdog. They'll carry her out in their arms, you just watch. I'll be the bad girl."

You hang low on the ladder. This is interesting...

"No way. That's not going to happen!" Thorn urges. "Sure they're supporting her now. She's the underdog, everyone likes an underdog. But if you show them how weak the Halfie is-how she hates fighting so much that she never bothered to learn how to, how she's so weak she panics from a few punches and taps from getting held down, how she's such a parasite that she'll let a bleeder groupie tell her what to do in a fight and wear her dad's jacket for sympathy points but would rather have Jones police and "protect" the pack then buck up and do it herself."

"I'm just scared they're going to think I'm screwing with her for no reason...no one cheered. I thought...someone would. Can't they see we're in a time of weakness, especially with Winnie not stepping down and poisoning us all with her anxiety and weakness? We have to weed out the parasites, we have to-for the good of the pack!"

"If you tell them that and if you show them the Halfie is a weak ass parasite I promise you they'll take your side. A wolf protects what's hers. You show them that she doesn't have the guts to do that then you'll have shown them that she's not and has never been a wolf."

"...Its good to know you still got my back Thorn."

"Always. Hey, maybe after you make her whimper out her submission I can have a turn at her? I'd love to claw that sanctimonious holier-than-thou face of hers. Maybe I'll make her bark to go with that collar you're making her wear, it'll really show people that she's Jone's tamed puppy.

Some lore questions for ya Quest while we're in the less active times.

Where do Werewolves stand on the whole tech situation? Do we have turbonerd wolves who do IT out there somewhere? Is there a large number of Wolf homes with a support towards solar energy? Is there literally a wolf on Wall Street?

One of the bitch-pack members got mentioned at being possibly half Fox, how does the pack tolerate crossbreeds mixed with other "were" folk?

"Oh hey Melody, Thorn, its me again." You say ascending the ladder.

"Oh great." Melody groans. "Winnie's bleeder groupie. She around here anywhere?"

"No. Just me. She's sparring with Sally trying to get her ready for your challenge tomorrow."

"It figures." Melody sighs. "Gets involved with Vampires. Gets involved in Wendigos. Gets involved with Halfies. Winnie has a bad habit of finding cracks in our defenses and making holes out of them."

"Well,I hope you don't consider me one of the cracks."

"No. Bleeders are fine. Sure, its annoying as fuck that wolves keep using you people as negotiators because they know no wolf would ever harm a hair on your precious non-regenerating skin, but packs have tried cutting out humans. It never ends well. So what are you here to bitch to me about bleeder? Halfie sent you with a white flag?"

"Actually, I got a couple of things to talk about."

"Oh here we go." Thorn rolls her silvery eyes.

"Well you got me trapped bleeder." Melody says. "What do you want to lecture me about?"

"Can you guys get off this building please? Your presence is bothering the workers I'm afraid."

Thorn chuckles. "Wait...what? Seriously? The ghosts have a problem with us? We aren't blocking the boats or anything. We haven't even said hi."

"Tell them they can leave if we're bothering them. We got a legal right to be on the roof."

"But they're working. They can't just move." You explain. "And you two are just bothering them. Isn't that enough to just jump to another warehouse?"

"No." Melody says. "I like the view of the ocean way too much to move. And hearing the wisps want me to move because I'm bothering them? It just makes me want to park it here even more."

"You tell him Melody." Thorn says.

>Tech situation

Most werewolves have cell phones now (Winnie has one), but there's a generational divide. Older werewolves think younger pups are becoming too much like humans with technological overload, younger pups think older wolves are low-tech fossils that need to get with the times. Traditionally wolves have stressed self sufficiency and isolation, although there's been a push for integration within human society sense the mid 1800's. Traditionally they've lived very simply and with very little. Their superhuman abilities mean that they can easily get by with a cabin in the woods, or even just a cave. Throughout most of their existence werewolves have been foresters living by and caring for their forests, occasionally forming bonds with rural humans. But there's been a developing trend of "urban wolves" in recent decades. These young wolves care for cities as their ancestors did for forests, keeping streets clean of crime and filth and generally beautifying areas they claim as their "territory" only asking not to be hassled by the law for "prowling"-a kind of extreme urban exploration that involves jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

Tagging is controversial in "urban territories". Werewolves can create beautiful geometric designs with just spray paint, their graffti is never -just- graffiti, but they still technically do not own the buildings they prowl on, and owners may have different ideas about what is and is not art.

>Turbonerd wolves who do IT

Those exist. Winnie has a sibling like that actually...

>Solar energy

Wolves stress self-reliance and self-sufficiency, so its not uncommon for them to go Green with rooftop gardens (only halfpups ever prefer veggies to meat or have a craving for them like Sally, but werwolves can eat plants, and you got to have garnish and spice for the steak) and solar arrays. It may seem weird at first glance to find a werewolf hangout in an old dusty warehouse that hasn't been used since the 50's has a high-tech solar panel on top, but that's how it is.

>Literally a wolf on wall street

Yes. Its rare to find a wolf in work that is so heavily human dominated such as banking and finance or law, wolves tend to prefer running with their own over bleeders, but when they apply themselves to these sectors wolves do tend to do very well owing to their animal cunning and instincts.

One of the rumored lawyers working on the ghost mafia payroll is a wolf...

-cont
>>
>>1002894
Why is judo flipping her off the roof not an option?
>>
>>1003179

Clearly that's the game over option. Human attacks wolf, pretty sure that's a level of "well fuck that human" in the eyes of the pack at large. Something tells me pups aren't raised to just sit there and get the shit kicked out of them no matter how hard of a beating they can take.

Love the idea though.

>Anon attempts a flip on Melody
>Shitty rolls by everyone because Winniequest suffers from unlucky rolls
>Anon found dead on pavement
>Ghost of Anon joins ghostly workforce at warehouse
>>
>>1003164
>Crossbreeds

They're totally fine with it on the whole, although you might find a bully that teases someone for being a half-breed, especially if their heritage owes to a race known to generally be weaker than wolves like foxes. Japanese foxes are particularly known for being wimpy (all the aggressive, macho ones were exterminated by the shogunate along with Japanese werewolf when they started showing up in Japan).

Char is a misfit not because she's a cat, but because she's Char and she's as socially awkward as her boyfriend.

>Is there probably a wolfed out version of a NEET?

Potentially Anon.... They're rarer than wolf lawyers. Wolves are expected to contribute to the pack in some way whether its by caring for the young and elderly, getting a hunter/gather job in the traditional profession of forest ranger, or getting a physically demanding job such as coal miner or tower climber electrician. Wolves getting jobs in IT or law or whatever are accepted but are sometimes looked at with suspicion.

>>1003179
She's lying on her back and is a whole lot stronger than Anon. Also probably not a good idea for diplomacy.

>Level of "well fuck that human"

Pups are raised to not hit back if they're hit, but there certainly are limits As in the war with the Simmons clans . If you come at a wolf with something that even looks silver all bets are off and the pack with back the wolf in whatever fallout occurs-the same thing with firearms. Bullets don't do more than sting a little (White Fell was only dazed for a few seconds by a shotgun to the face) but there's no telling if you're loaded with silver bullets or not.

Generally its not hard for a wolf to just restrain a human stupid enough to try fist fighting them. This is why wolves make good bouncers. They can just pick up a violent drunk like a human would a child.

>>1003233
>Tell us about yourself

Finishing up a useless liberal arts masters degree, I'm presenting my thesis project which is a novella I've written about a culture where people compete for fruit from an alien tree that crashed in Norway that create humans based on memories, virtually raising the dead. People struggle to find the correct and moral way to compete for the fruits, from random lottery to awarding humanitarian achievements to laser gun duel tournaments. I hope to be a published writer one day and I'm looking toward teaching high school English until the day (maybe) that writing starts to pay out. At the very least I don't have any any student debt because of my BIG BRAIN AND BIG SCHOLARSHIP...that I blew on a liberal arts degree...

"Oh God...Can you guys stop making with the sighs and exclamations marks, use letters! Letters that aren't squriming!" Melody tries to calm the ghosts down as her sudden leap to the docks startles them. "Which one of you is in charge here? The one in the cap?"

"What makes you think you're weak?" You ask Thorn.

She points to her large ears and gives them a shake. "I'm not exactly part panther you know."

"I don't think you're weak. You're never weak so long as you have words. You say the right thing you can solve any problem."

"Oh brother...give me a break, you sound like something from PBS.

"I'm serious. I think you and Melody would solve whatever problems you got with Sally better by talking instead of bullying her."

"No way." She shakes her head. "When someone votes to have someone to increase surveillance the time for talk is over. "

Down below Melody seems to have finally calmed the ghosts down. They float around her as the foreman ghost starts unraveling himself into letters. Melody watches quietly.

"So when people say she's got a rep as a Bully where do you think they're coming from?"

"She gives people that don't pull their own weight a hard time. People like Sally."

"Sally doesn't pull her own weight? That doesn't seem to be what those people thought when they congratulated her for challenging Melody. That doesn't seem to be what everyone that goes to her Cafe thinks."

"How did Melody come to be friends with you? You two really seem to have each others' backs. That's actually pretty cool."

"Met her when I was out prowling. It's something we both like to do. Believe it or not prowling is actually something I'm kind of good at because of my fox side. When you're down in the old subway tunnels it pays to be built kind of slight so you can move through the debris and collapsed passages and to have ears that can pick up the wind."

"So you two like to go off on your own away from groups?"

"It clears your head to go prowling. It's pretty fun, especially when you hit the casino district and start leaping through all the neon. It sucks ass if you scratch anything glass though, because they will find you and they will bill you up the ass for it."

"I figured you two would be more active in the pack at large though the way you two have appointed yourselves the judge of how much one should or should not contribute to the pack."

"Hey. We don't ask much." Thorn says defensively, retracting some of her openness. "We just want wolves to fight for the pack the protects them, not open the door to it for evil blonde politicians!"

"So how does Melody decide who is and who isn't able to fight for the pack? How does she decide who does and doesn't pull their own weight? Where is the line? Because if its people that just won't be good in a fight to protect the pack I can't help but feel she's forgotten some important things about what makes a pack a pack in the first place."

"Hey. Look at me. I'm pretty garbage in a fight to be honest. I definitely think I'm below average when it comes to a scrap...but I try. I roughouse. I spar. I don't think I'm too good for it like Sally does. I've learned how to fight. Sally never even bothered. And before you say it no, her getting last minute training with Winnie doesn't count. She's only doing that because Melody is about to kick her ass, not because she's actually worried about fighting for the pack. If she cared one hair about fighting for the pack she wouldn't try throwing open its gates to Jones. Can we get her to fight for the pack with her vote at least, with just her voice if noting else? But no, we can't even get the Halfie to do that. She's a moocher. She doesn't try. All she does is take security and give nothing of herself in return. So we got to rough her up to mean her up, we got to beat some sense into that thick skull of hers."

Oh no. That's an actual full-blood Japanese Fox who crossed the ocean to kick Winnie's ass and become alpha for a number of reasons, including the Japanese pack system having virtually no options for turnover in leadership. Leadership goes from father to son or mother to daughter and fights for position hardly ever happen. She sees herself on a mission of mercy to raise up a weak pack through her leadership.
>>
>>1004199

Oh okay... well if that's your endgame for this chapter we're going to be enjoying a month or two of Winniequest at this rate. Not complaining, just wooo man..
>>
>>1004203
Don't worry, it comes up right after Sally's fight tomorrow. These won't be as long as Sibella Day installments.

Taking a break for the night. As usual shoot me questions and comments.

DISCUSSION TOPICS:

1. Should Sally be encouraged to continue training after the fight?

2. How do you feel about a future episode where Melody and her crew pick a fight with Char?

3.Should Winnie losing her Alpha status, either through willingly vacating the title or defeat, ever be an option?
>>
>>1004215
I think Sally should continue training.

I'd much rather Winnie not lose her status, but as for whether or not is should be at all possible, I think the pretty high stakes could go a long way towards making things more tense.
>>
>>1004215

Honestly if this dragged out as long as Sibella I wouldn't care at all <3

1. Sally at least being able to self defend/defend others is pretty great in the long run.

2. I could see that, I need to go reread Sibquest to remember Char but sure.

3. Eh.... If Winnie just completely lost alpha status that would honestly ruin the quest for me. Idk, it just seems like the bad end to the series. She fought her dad and earned it properly, I hope she expands on that at some point; if she loses alpha then we'd pretty much be looking at a case of "why should we care about the pack?" At least as her being alpha Anon has a real reason to learn wolf culture.

We'll see where it goes but really hoping we don't get stuck in an arc where Winnie drops from her status. Also I beg you bro, don't stick us in a rut where rolling decides Winnie's fate like that, we're all really bad at rolling.
>>
>>1004215
>1.
Yes, though she could always view it in a more recreational way. Like a self defense class or a martial art. If she has the tools, at least if something bad happens she can defend herself.

>2.
Well I would prefer an end goal where they become more sympathetic and gentler. But I suppose its a possibility.

>3.
Well as someone who has played through the other quests and know what Winnie is trying to do. I could see it being good for her...at least somewhat. But I would prefer she not lose her status, if only because her pride would take a very big fall and I think she'd struggle with the pressure. Hell, if she lost again she could find herself on the more Omega side of things. And I bet that is a rather hard concept to face for someone who was, lets face it, the runt of the litter.

On the other hand. I suppose that would be one way to explore the whole issues of family and what it means to be in a pack at least.

Questions, because fuck it!

What exactly is a werewolf cafe like? Will I find far more hair in my food than usual? What does the menu look like? For that matter what does "wolf cuisine" equate to other than raw steaks?

You touched base that humans and wolves are living pretty much in a fucked up version of Zootopia where everyone is just kind of tolerating each other for better or worse but how exactly does humanity feel about the nature and behaviors of packs? I'm assuming most major govts are eyeballing pack and wolf movements like crazy?

Silver, does it instantly kill wolves? Do you have to score a headshot? Does a shot to the gut with a silver bullet just nullify the rapid healing and if removed in time the wolf can heal?

Do werewolves suffer from any other basic weaknesses? Obviously hyper sensitivity to smells and sounds, could probably drop a wolf or two with tear gas faster than you could a human. If a wolf is literally on fire does the healing go faster than the burning, do you have a wolf in the constant state of "fuck this is hot" but they are technically fine, or maybe they have that whole troll logic of "they can't fix what's on fire?"
So if Winnie beat her father... is that normally to the death for taking alpha or can one take alpha without completely devastating another wolf? She's the runt of his family and yet she's strong enough to be the packs leader? I'm just really confused on how that works story wise. Also how big is her pack number wise would you say?
>>
>>1004215
1. It'd be nice for Sally to be able to defend herself and maybe even people weaker than her in the future. Though, it remains to be seen whether or not this fight is going to affect her positively. idk, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

2. I think that would be a swell idea. Melody and her gang don't seem like the kind of folk that would take too kindly to her, and they also seem like the type that are unusually accustomed to making bad decisions.

3. I certainly think so. After all, it's a pretty risky business being alpha, and that should be reflected in the fact that we risk losing that title. Besides, it'd be fun to see something unexpected like that happen later down the line.
>>
>Diplomacy

"By my admittedly limited time in the pack, I think you're underestimating Sally."

"I think we got the leech pretty well figured out."

"Do you?" You ask. "I mean, did you really think she was going to do anything today?"

"Well...okay, she has some courage. A little courage. Halfie's are half wolf, it figures she'd have half a wolf's heart."

"When backs are against the wall I think she can surprise again...I guess what I'm saying is, its best not to under value her like that."

"Well you'll see. Everyone will see. A few punches and she'll be all "please stop!"."

"And if you're wrong?"

"Oh come on Anon. Next you'll be saying that the Halfie will actually beat Melody."

"Stranger things have happened."

"Yeah. I bet."

Down below things seem to be going good between the ghosts and Melody,

"...And I'm really sorry..." The grey furred werewolf says. "Really. I didn't know you guys were missing someone. I hope he turns up okay. Look, we wolves don't usually deal with ghosts anymore more than ble-I mean humans-do, that's kind of a vampire thing. But what the ghost mafia does with the clowns, that's fucked up...So...I'm sorry..." She nervously scratches her ear.

YOU AND YOUR FRIEND CAN USE THE ROOF MELODY. The foreman ghost signs. JUST PLEASE ASK US IF YOU BRING ANYONE ELSE. STRANGE LOOKING PEOPLE MAKE THE BOYS NERVOUS.

"I totally know what you mean. I don't like strangers coming into my place and scaring people...I'm really sorry about this."

You can't help but smile. She's not irredeemable after all...

"What are you smiling at?" Thorn asks.

"She's getting along really well with the ghosts. I'm just glad to see that."

"Well yeah. I've been trying to tell you, she's not a bad person. I'm not a bad person. Sally is the bad bitch."

"...Do you remember what I said about how you and Melody could do more good if you two talked more than fought? I think that's a pretty good example down there."

"Well, those are ghosts she's talking to. Not Halfies. Ghosts are usually just confused as all hell. Halfies try to lie to you."

"You know there's something that's been bothering me about you and Sally Thorn."

"What? More than everything else that's bothering you?"

"If you really care about what her being a mooch or whatever you'd confront her straight up, on your own, but instead you chip away at her from the safety of Melody."

Thorn's ears twitch. "Melody...well...she's the fighter you know, she's the one who-"

"I thought Sally was so weak to the point of being a danger to the pack?"

"Well...you see..."

"Or forget talking to her directly. Why don't you take it up with Winnie or the council-what allows your little group to decide what is or isn't good for the pack on its own?"

"H-Hey! Wait a minute, you aren't even a wolf! You don't even feel the Howl! What gives you the right to say what we can and can't do!"

"You talk a lot about Shifters. What makes them so special to you anyways?"

>Werewolf Cafe
The Moonset Cafe first appeared in S-Anon and Sibella's first date (Crunch even did art of it!)

It's a nifty little eatery, very comfy. It caters mostly to beastpeople but it has options for humans.

>Will I find more hair in my food than usual?

I-It's extra protein!

>What does the menu look like?

Little laminated print outs, nothing fancy.

>"Wolf Cuisine"

Xtreme dining, sort of like Xtreme sports with a fork. Very raw, very spicy, very strong. Beastpeople have a less powerful sense of taste than humans, so their food has to "work more" to provide the same flavor.

>Fucked up version of Zootopia

Oh man. There are also vampires, ghosts, superheroes, YHWH and angels, and computer TRON people called Questlings (a major part of Elsa Quest, she helped create them).

>How does humanity feel?

It ranges from "Oh dear god regenerating monster people live next door" to "I wish certain human societies worked this hard to integrate into Western Civilization". Beastpeople are recognized as "human" under the UN but hunter organizations still exist and unlike Vampire Hunters these guys tend to be killer psycho vigilantes like the Simmons Clan.

>Most major govts eyeballing pack and wolf movements like crazy?

Yes they are, and Jones wants to step up the monitoring. Wolves are quite well liked by the military however and have cultural ties with the US military going as far back as WW2 due to wolves taking to military discipline like ducks to water. Winnie's old man served on a secret OSI task force during WW2 alongside Dracula and The Phantom (Phantasma's father).

>Does Silver insta-kill wolves?

It's all but an insta-kill on the super-sensitive Wendigos, but for normal wolves it just slows down the regeneration process, although long enough exposure will actually start to rot the flesh right off their bones. If a silver bullet is removed fast enough a wolf can recover-which is why trained werewolf hunters make it hard to dig out silver bullets by firing them from shotguns and placing barbs on the bullets.

Silver makes halfpups noxious, but it actually doesn't slow their healing factor. It's one of the few things they have over their full blooded kin.

>Tear gas weakness

That's a big one. Wolves need to breathe, unlike vampires. They can also be choked out. Suffocating won't kill a werewolf, but it will place their body in a death-like coma until revived with air.

>Fire

Winnie was able to use her healing factor to tackle a vampire burning inside a towering inferno and rip him to shreds before stepping out only a little singed. It hurts like a son of a bitch but a werewolf generally can't burn to death-that being said in the war of fire vs healing eventually fire will win. The constant damage will overtax a healing factor if a wolf isn't careful.

>Spoiler

>To the death

Civilized packs don't have fights to the death, even over Alpha status, although fights to the death happened in ancient times.

>I doubt anyone will really wanna bully her

>>1005048

>Take Alpha without completely devastating another wolf

Generally no because of the importance of what is at stake. Both wolves will fight their hardest for the title. But if someone cries mercy the fight ends.

>How is she the runt of the family and yet strong enough to be pack leader?

She's short, but she's actually a genius when it comes to the technical side of fighting. And short or not her father and mother are two of the strongest wolves on the planet, her family has got great genes.
It also helps that she, like the rest of her family, can Use the Howling in ways other wolves can't. She can use it to do stuff like physically touch ghosts and angels and subconsciously uses it to read minds although she is unware of this ability. When she gets into the groove of battle she turns into Midnighter. She knows what her opponents will do before they even do.

>How big is her pack?

I honestly have no idea. Big enough to sort of be like a Chinatown community in a large metropolitan city. A couple of hundred maybe?

Thorn glares at you...but as you stare at her waiting for her response you see her ears slowly start to droop. "I...I...Halfies just lie a lot okay? They lie?"

"They lie to you?"

"Y-Yeah...Why do you care anyway?" She suddenly snarls. "You're basically our enemy Anon. You're on Sally's side. Why do you care?"

You point below to Melody and the ghosts.

"You guys uh...well I do a little prowling-urban exploration-not sure you guys know what that is but...it's really fun to do, especially when you got a lot of problems and well, you guys got a lot of problems...I mean it helps me think..."

The ghosts float silently, letting her speak and giving her all their attention.

"You guys are like big glowing balls of...glowing light..." Melody continues awkwardly. "That's useful if you're like, prowling in the old subways where its dark. I mean yeah we all got real good night vision but that just works by amplifying what little ambient light is there and you know, some wolves just plain don't have good night sight... In total darkness its useless and you guys could be way more handy than a flashlight-n-not that I'm saying you guys are tools or anything! Aw hell..." Her foot scrapes at the ground. "...I guess what I'm trying to say is...you guys want to hang out sometime?"

The little orbs slowly close around her and express their approval in the simplest way possible-through a group hug.

"...I guess that means yes, huh?" Melody smiles.

"You see that?" You say to Thorn. "That's the pack, and even Melody can't deny it. It brings people together, even if they are different."

"Halfies don't want to come together. They're...they're greedy and mean and...and they just care about themselves. They act like a wolf when its convenient then go human when things start getting hard..."

"And your name is...wait, is that an A or a B you're trying to make there?" Melody starts to take the names of her new prowling friends.

"I dated a Halfie." Thorn admits wrapping her arms around her legs. "His name was David, he was a dick, and I followed him like a big dumb puppy...and I ruined my reputation with him..."

That's werewolf talk for "had sex with someone that discarded me". Werewolves look on being abandoned by one's partner as extremely shameful.

"I'm sorry Thorn."

"Hey." She shrugs. "Its my own damn thought. He seemed so mysterious and cool. Wolf and a human, that's how Halfies sell themselves to you. They're just like you and a little more...but he eventually got tired of me and threw me away like trash for his human whores. His wolf side was just for fun. He would take it out sometimes like you would a car. He thought the pack was cool, he thought I was cool. But he didn't want any of the sacrifice that comes from being a real wolf. It was just fun and games for him...I was just fun and games for him..."

"Sally isn't like that, regardless of what you may think Thorn..."

"When I challenged him...because believe me, the way he hurt me made me want to hurt him back...he just declined. The bastard just didn't care about honor...and you'll see Anon, everyone will see tomorrow. She'll wimp out just like he did when things get hard..."

"I'm back." Melody ways leaping up to a window sill on the other side of the ladder rung you're sitting on. "I'll be damned but talking to a bunch of chalkboards was way more fun that I thought it would be!"

"See what I told you about talking?"

"Heh. Ghosts aren't like Halfies-"

"I already told him that." Thorn says. "He thinks Sally is going to stand up to you."

"She's going to fold." Melody says. "All Halfies fold when the going gets tough."

"I was just telling him about David."

"Huh? Wait. Hang on a minute. You told him about David?"

"Yeah...it's not like Anon is harmful or anything. He's just a bleeder. A bleeding heart bleeder that thinks we can all get along." Thorn says. "For a friend of Winnie he's not so bad."

"Well if you trust him with knowing about David then I guess he must be okay...you an okay kind of guy Anon?"

"Hey, remember how you didn't care for the ghosts until you sat down and got to know them and now you realize they are pretty decent souls...forgive the pun...look I know its a stretch but why not try giving Sally the same chance?"

"She lost any chance she got when she voted for Jones." Melody says.

"Look, I completely agree with you that its not in the best interest of the pack to have voted the way she did but she felt it was in the best interest of everyone, possibly because she didn't even know better."

"If you agree Jones sucks then why are you trying to keep me from beating some sense into her?"

"Because what you're doing leads nowhere. It just hurts Sally, it doesn't teach her."

"It'll teach her to think twice before-"

"Be the bigger wolf in this." You interrupt. "Help your packmate. Help her, the right way. I can't speak solely for her but trust me when I say she didn't exactly have the most pack friendly upbringing as far as I can tell. She's worth the chance, I promise."

Melody crosses her arms and thinks for a moment before replying. "...Okay. Okay we'll talk to the runt. But I'm telling you its going to be useless. She's not going to change how she feels about Jones...I mean sure, she'll say she's changed because she's scared and wants a way out but she'll still be in his corner."

"Just try. That's all I'm asking. If it doesn't work out you still have your fight."

"You for talking to her Thorn?" Melody asks.

"Well, we're supposed to make an example of her right? I guess this could be an example to Anon of how she's really like. Just watch. She'll blubber out an apology and beg for mercy."

"Either way someone is going to show someone something. I think this sit down is going to be educating somebody, we'll just see who it is."

"You know Anon...for a bleeder you're a pretty good member of the pack." Melody says. "You sure aren't drift wood like Sally. I can see why Winnie keeps you close at hand. You're pretty slick with those words of yours."

"See? There are other ways of helping the pack besides being good in a fight."

"Yeah. But even you learned how to fight. You made that effort."

"Well maybe you'll see how much effort Sally puts forward in being friendly."

"Eh. We'll see. We'll see..."

You return to the Moonset Cafe to find Winnie and Sally still sparring on the lawn behind the Cafe. You watch the two exchange a series of jabs and kicks and wait for them to notice you.
"Oh god...you know something Winnie..." Sally says to her sparring partner in between slow, even breathes. "This is actually sort of fun..."

"You wanna get real good I could train you personally!" Winnie says as they slowly circle each other.

"...I don't know. Maybe. I'll have to think about it." She nimbly sidesteps a jab from Winnie. "Maybe not like, hardcore like you do but if you could teach me something on weekends.." She dodges another fist. "...That would be cool. I've never felt such...freedom in my body. I'm using it in ways I never dreamed I could. GUH!" A swift kick to the gut drops her to her knees. Winnie pounces, and the two of them roll on the ground. Winnie pins her, and Sally puts all her strength into flipping her, fangs gritted, eyes shut.

Winnie quickly spins, catches an arm, and falls back into a classic armbar. Sally quickly taps.

"...Like even that..." Sally says. "...That was fun even though you beat me. To feel myself exert myself...feels great!"

"Yeah, don't it?" Winnie smiles

"Like, I fought you off. So it was only for a few seconds, but still it wasn't like I was a dummy in your hands. You had to work a little to get me to tap...very little, but...you know what I mean..."

"It's not winning the fight that's awesome. It's fighting the fight." Winnie says.

"All this time I've always held back. I hate hurting people. And I hate being hurt. But I can feel myself just powering through the pain and pushing you...I never knew I could be this strong..."

"You've been holding back a lot for a long time."

"I don't want to hold back anymore. I want to see what my limits actually are...Oh, hey there Anon! What did you find out from the bitch patrol?"

"They want to sit down and talk to us." You say. "They're up front at the Cafe right now actually."

"Wait...they want to...talk?" Sally asks hesitantly.

"That's the anon I l...like to have by my side!" Winnie cheers. "This is great! Maybe you want have to fight them after all?"

Sally looks down at her fists. She clenches and unclenches them. She keeps the thumbs on the outside of the fists. "...I just want to hear what they have to say." Sally says. "I just want to hear them."

....

Winnie positions herself between Sally on one side of the lawn and Melody and Thorn on the other. Melody and Sally lock eyes. They stand stock still, only their tails move slashing to and fro in challenge and warning.

"Anon here has this crazy idea that we can all play nice Halfie." Melody says. "He says I ought to give you the benefit of the doubt with your stupid life decisions and try to get you to see the light this way as opposed to beating it into your thick skull."

"If you think I regret ANYTHING I've done you're insane Melody. And you want to know something else? I'm NEVER apologizing for ANYTHING, especially not to a tyrant bully like you!"

Melody blinks and breaks their locked stare. "Huh. Big words runt. But here's the thing. You take back voting for Jones and I'll forget everything. And I won't even bully you anymore."

"No." Sally says.

Melody blinks a few more times. You think you see some strands of fur start to stand up straight on her neck.

"No? What do you mean no? Look. I'll tell them we came to an agreement."

"I'm going to fight you Melody."

"You...You stupid bitch! You take some lessons from the Alpha and what, you think you're better than someone that's had years of experience?"

Sally laughs.

"What...what are you laughing about? You think this is funny? You're going to wear a pet collar you stupid bitch!"

>>1005540
Could you try plantigrade feet this time? Just a preference of mine.

"So?" Sally flashes a wolfish smile as she shrugs. "I don't care."

"W-What?"

"I want to fight you. I want to stand up to you. I don't care if you submit me. I don't care if you humiliate me. I'm pushing back-with everything that I am!"

"You...you...I'll make you beg for me to stop in an instant! Everyone will see me beat you! You'll wear a stupid collar because I scared you so much you ran your mouth! Is that what you really want, to be exposed in front of the pack like that?"

"Here's something else for our fight Melody-a wager I'm adding. And if you can't tell by my tone its not being added because of fear. Its being added because of anger..."

"Sally stop!" You say moving in front of her. "There's no need to escalate this situation. Let's talk about what caused this fight in the first place, okay?"

"They started it!" Sally shouts. "And now I want to finish it! Made me kneel and ask permission to walk the sidewalk...its her turn to kneel!"

Melody shakes her head in wide-eyed disbelief. She did not suspect this.

"Sally Sally, hey now..." You say soothingly. "I'm all for a flashing of teeth once in a while but nows not the time."

"Ya sure about that Anon?" Winnie asks. "They've been bullying Sally until its come to this. She's got the right to show them exactly what she feels about her bullying."

"Winnie. Trust me on this." You place your hands on her shoulders.

"Alright Anon." She nods. "I trust ya."

"They want to talk. Right guys?" You look at Melody and Thorn.

"Yeah..." Melody says. "Maybe...maybe we were wrong about a few details..."

"Are you seriously trying to BACK OUT?" Sally steps forward, nearly lunges at Melody but Winnie catches her. "Easy Sally girl, easy...let Anon run his plan. He knows what he's doing."

"Call me Halfie...Say I don't deserve to be in the pack...When I did nothing to you...I'm SICK of it! SICK!" Sally seethes.

"Sally calm down." You say. "I've seen what a lot of adrenaline can do to a wolf." You spare a glance at Winnie. She spares a quick smirk in return, remembering the kiss she shared with you in between dropping elbows on White Fell. "But this is one of those times to put the teeth away and talk. I know this will sound odd to you because of what you've dealt with but honestly the girls are pretty alright and if you're not willing to listen to me I literally have a warehouse full of spirits who are willing to vouch that Melody isn't the worst person in the world. Please just calm down for a minute and lets be civil."

"...FINE!" Sally yells throwing off Winnie's hands. "But you call me Halfie one more time and we're fighting right here...." Sally looks around to a tiny group of werewolves gathered to see what the commotion is. Some start dialing phones. "...And I mean that!" She says to the crowd.

>Say/Do?

>>Talk about how Melody and Thorn were wrong about Sally. She didn't cave. She's fighting back. She is strong, way stronger than they thought.

>ASK Sally what she contributes to the Pack.
>>
>>1005702

"You know it's funny, I know "Halfie" is supposed to be some horrible thing to call a halfpup but honestly that's one of the most adorable things I've ever heard. Trust me, I wasn't exactly the normal human growing up, I got bullied and harassed constantly but unlike you all if I threaten to beat someone to a pulp suddenly I'm in jail.. Look Melody clearly you can see there is that spark inside her, I mean Sally is ready to throw down in a moments notice. If that isn't the beauty of wolfdom I really don't know what is, and it's less about her so much as she knows her place in the world. You have to give her credit for that.

So here's the thing, Jones is bad for a few reasons, and I'm a human and even I know that. If he appealed to Sally for whatever reason it's not my place to call her out for it and despite even the tiniest sliver of threat to the pack beating the crap out of her doesn't change anything. Goodness knows there are plenty of humans scared of him for this and that but others support what he's about (dear lord am I partially defending Trump?), that's politics and I'm sure you get stuck with the drama of who's right and who's wrong more times than I ever will.

Sally, Melody, is there anything that can be said or done to stop this fight? We can't take away Sally's vote and Melody she's got that wolf spirit in full force; you aren't looking at a weakling you're looking at an equal of the pack who just wants to be treated with the same respect as you do. She's nice, she's friendly, you're nice, you're friendly.. it's really baffling to see you two fight."

>>1005634
Nope, I just loooooooooooove DND and role playing games way too much. I think it's funny Quest's original Winniequest was a lot more simplistic but you can really feel the advancement from a year of nonstop writefaggotry. I'm glad you came back to do this Quest.
>>
>>1005757
>Am I partially defending Trump?

Trump has somehow become a weird multiversal singularity in my games-like Unicron and Primus from Transformers.

In Mechagirl he's a Emperor Trump mentioned when characters talk about past history. In Cape World he's President Ace and interacts directly with the MC. In Ghoul Quest he's President elect Jones.

I have no idea how Trump mushroomed in my work.

>Spoiler

I consider all of Ghoul Quest to be "one" Quest-just a very large one.

Hate to cut out right now, but my asthma is acting up and I need to get some rest. I might post later tonight if I wake up.

The eyes of the pack are on us. They're not just watching Sally and Melody, they're watching Anon and Winnie.

What should our endgame be for this situation?

>Get Melody and Thorn to apologize and stop the fight from happening.

>Have the fight go on, collars and all.

>Talk them down to having a simple fight without humiliating stipulations
>>

>>

Just getting them to apologize won't loosen the tension. But neither will piling on humiliations. A good old fashioned fight will do a great deal of good though.

Buuut, if Sally wants to keep the collar condition, let her keep the collar condition, as long as she doesn't raise the stakes.

The thickening crowd of wolves starts to chat among themselves.

"I thought they were fighting tomorrow?"

"I hope Sally gives them hell."

"It's about time she started showing fangs."'

"Hey look, its that weird guy that hangs out with Winnie!"

"Is she dating him? A bleeder?"

"Is Winnie going to ref their fight?"

"Damn! I hope they don't start until my bro gets here to see this! Chick fights are awesome!"

Melody and Thorn look around nervously. They're starting to figure out that they aren't going to expose Sally as a wimp. They're starting to figure out that they're not the ones the pack wants to root for.

You figured it was going to happen like this one way or another, but its something of a shock to Melody and Thorn.

"I think you can see that you two were wrong about Sally." You say to the girls.

"Damn RIGHT they were wrong about me!" Sally roars. "You push me, and you push me, and even when I said please you never stopped! Well how about now? You want to ask me to kneel down now?"

"We...we thought you were spineless..." Melody takes a step back. "I mean you DID just grovel and do what we asked of you..."

"Not anymore...never again..." Sally growls through gritted teeth.

"B-But that's because we bullied you in the first place. You would have kept acting like a leech that's too good to learn how to defend herself if we didn't pressure you." Melody looks around the crowd for support. "She's never been in a fight in her life! Most wolves don't grow out of being pups until they've scrapped countless of times! Isn't it a good thing we toughen her up?"

"She doesn't have to know how to fight!"

"You're not exactly a talented fighter yourself Thorn!"

"You don't have to be strong to be a good pack mate!"

"N-No! Everyone just listen to me!" Melody starts to panic at her lack of support. "Listen to me! She never even tried to learn how to fight until now! Even this bleeder right here bothered to learn to defend himself. Isn't it a duty for everyone to know how to fight, especially when things are getting scarier every day?"

"What's important is the heart of a fighter!"

"You two are the ones looking scared!"

"Sally would die for any one of us, and we'd do the same or her!"

"There's more to being a wolf than fighting you insecure brats!"

Sally smirks at the pack's approval of her. She relaxes slightly out of her fighting stance and basks in the positive attention.

Normally when she faces Melody Sally is the one trembling in helplessness and Melody is the one with the cocky grin. Today their roles are reversed and Sally is loving it.

>>
>>1008240

I'm with ya, I'm all for the support of Sally but this is getting really friggen' hostile right as they were trying to kinda make amends.
>>
>>1008225
"I tried acting like a human to get you to stop, because I feel comfortable in that form!" Sally's voice quiets down the crowd. "I don't like hurting people or being hurt. You know how my momma raised me with humans and I don't regret it. The human side of me...that's the bigger side of me. And I'm not ashamed of it!"

You notice an angry sneer quickly cross Thorn's face and vanish.

"But when I saw being human wasn't going to work I put on my papa's jacket and faced you down. Because that's what we do as members of the pack whether we're human or halfpups or crosspups or fullpups. When its time to act human we act human. When its time to act wolf we HOWL!"

A piercing howl of approval from the crowd shakes the block. You notice Winnie calmly shutting her eyes. The sudden surge of emotions is funneling straight through through her.

When the ringing in your ears dies down you speak again. "Well Melody and Thorn, I think everyone here can agree that Sally is strong, way stronger than you thought."

The two girls nod slowly.

You turn to the pack.

"And you all that say there's more to the pack than fighting, you're absolutely right. Sally, what do you contribute to the pack?"

You hope that by playing up Sally's contributions you can help Melody and Thorn understand why she's so valued by the pack.

"Well..." Sally begins, noticeably calming down. "You all know me. I've waited tables here at the Moonset sense I started college. I've worked to make this a nice place with nice food for wolves to relax at. Sometimes humans come here, ghosts, vampires...this place is sort of like a crossroads, sort of like how I feel being a halfpup, and I think its a good thing. This is a comfortable place where wolves can meet people from throughout the city."

"She's pretty good speaking ain't she?" Winnie gives you a little nudge from behind.

"But you're going to leave." Thorn says.

Melody's mouth gapes open as Thorn steps in front of her.

"You're going to go get a job at Questlabs and leave the pack behind."

Sally slowly shakes her head. "How dare you say that to me. I'll never stop being in the pack. I can't stop. I told you already today Thorn. I. Am. A WOLF!"

The crowd cheers.

"You tell them Sally!"

"Hey Thorn! You and Melody don't do much just sulking around the city you know?"

"Those two slackers are complaining about others not pulling their weight? THOSE TWO?"

You catch Melody blinking back tears as the crowd starts to jeer her.

"If I leave the Moonset to join Questlabs I'll be an ambassador from the pack to something few wolves are ever involved in. What are you and Thorn going to do? Do you two even have any plans for your life other than sulking around abandoned buildings? Well DO YOU?" Sally demands.

"I...I...I..." Melody stutters. Thorn just glares.

"You made your point Sally." You say placing a hand on her shoulders held high as they can be. "Let's talk about resolving this without resorting to violence."

"Well that's too bad." Sally says. "Because I WANT there to be a fight. I'm not saying this just to scare them!" She pops her claws with a flick of her hand and holds them out in front of a cringing Melody. "I mean it! I want to fight!"

"It's her challenge!"

"Let's get it on!"

"She's got the right!"

"Let them fight already!"

"Cool it." Winnie speaks calmly to the roaring crowd. You wouldn't even have heard her if you weren't standing directly beside her. But she's not speaking to the crowd with just words.

When the Alpha speaks everyone listens, and an eerie, total silence falls over the crowd as all eyes turn to Winnie.

"If there's going to be a fight there's going to be a fight, but that's not set in stone yet." She says.

"B-But Winnie!" Sally complains. "All that training you did with me...I gotta fight!"

"No ya don't." Winnie says. "Remember what you said. There's a time to be a human and a time to be a wolf. But you got to find out whether or not ya got the right time or not."

Sally growls deep in her throat and looks at Melody from head to toe.

"...You two want me to drop my challenge?"

Thorn looks at Melody and sighs. "...Yes." Thorn says.

Melody just nods.

"I want to fight you. I got to fight you. But...if you do something for me I'll drop the stipulations. It'll just be a simple fight between me and Melody, traditional rules."

"Alright...what do you want?" Thorn asks.

"I want you two to get on your knees and say "please drop your challenge". Just like how you made me beg to use the sidewalk. And when I see your sister Melody I expect her to do the same thing."

"No." Melody quickly blurts out. "I mean...she was there with us but...but...come on Sally, just have it be me okay? It was always mostly just me teasing you..."

Shit, now I wanna see stories of White Fell exploring Anon's house. Messing with and reinterpreting stuff she doesn't understand, trying on his expensive and ill fitting sentai suits to reenact legendary battles, exploring the forest in search of yokai and fictional characters, building a little city out of junk and figurines so she can smash it godzilla style. Trying to be kawaii in the mirror and learn how to make rice balls.

Oh, and science junk I guess, since Anon's showed her all that vsauce.
>>
>>1008394

....

All in favor of pestering Quest to do a small miniseries of "White Fell's Adventures?"

The tales of a little awoo in a big ol' weeb home. She repairs, she kinda cooks, she looks adorable in her little maid outfit. Half the house smells of Winnie, the other half is covered in bits of white fur.
>>
>>1008403
If anything its probably fine if we just get the occasional scene in WinnieQuest from her POV. She's pretty much got third billing anyways and QG is no stranger to changing perspectives if he wants.

I won't deny wanting to see White Fell try to integrate into a new world for her. But I have more pedestrian scenes I'd like. Getting her horns caught on things, trying human foods ranging from Peanut Butter, Candy, Popcorn to Chili, Burgers and Fries, exploring the urban jungle of the citydiscreetly to hide from other werewolves. Though I admit White Fell accidentally getting into anon's model kit paints is amusing.

I also look forward to Anon, Winnie and White Fell rebuilding the house and taking a "break" by training.

>>
>>1008645

Yeah I gotta sit down and read both of the other quests. It is funny how much his style has changed though, I find it refreshing as well as a hell of a lot more direct! Winniequest took me about 2-3 hours of reading at a leisurely pace, I'm sure Phanty/Sibella quest together will take a hell of a lot longer.
>>
>>1008652
If there is something to commend QG about (Apart from his settings) is that he is able to take the derailled messes we make of his quests and make them even better. There hasn't been a quest we didn't derail without a badly worded post and some /x/ tier rolls

Phanty Quest is where the scope of the universe becomes clearer, and how small we actually are in it. It shows that he was heavily experimenting on what worked and what didn't.

Sibella Quest is where he is much more comfortable and has nailed how he wants the setting to be. He struggled badly coming up with a combat system, thought. The early fights were a nightmare to play but i bet they are awesome to read back on.

I'm going to try to incorporate her through perspective switches. That method seems to be working pretty good in Sibella Quest for fleshing out secondary characters like Benny and Char.

"Alright." Sally crosses her arms. "Fine. Now kneel Melody."

Melody slowly drops to her knees. She takes a deep, unsteady breathe as she tries not to look at the crowd.

"Now say it." Sally commands.

Thorn glares angrily.

"...Please. Drop the stipulations."

"And now you know how it feels Melody." Sally says. "Now get up. Right here. Right now. I want to settle this."

Melody drags herself to her feet. "...Okay. Let's just get this over with now..." She brings her fists up. "I'm not going to hold back. I'm not going to let you beat me."

The crowd erupts in excited cheers for Sally.

"You're going to lose Sally..." Melody whispers as she starts to square up to Sally. "You're the winner today, but not in this, not completely."

"Gonna cry when I beat you?" Sally grins confidently.

I'll stop voting for it after we hit or block well, because trying to catch her off-guard like that wouldn't work once she knows how much Sally has improved.

While it's supposed to be the the "taboo" option it's the one that makes moderate sense in the end. I mean White Fell is going to probably stay with Anon/Winnie and I can't imagine her going back to her family unless there's a hoard of protective pups from Winnie's side to guard White Fell/Anon. Idk if that's Stockholme waiting to happen or not but she's probably going to latch on for dear life.

Could go the kinky pet route maybe... Idk Winnie doesn't seem to hate her and that friendship of theirs really could open some doors down the line but I'm pretty sure we're far from a menage a trois situation.

You think you could have problems if she tried striking at you...but she seems intent on grappling you to end the fight as quickly as possible.

She's becoming angry and unfocused. Winnie says that's the first thing to make sure you don't do in a fight. You think you could use it to your advantage...

But a sudden burst of speed surprises you, and you find yourself on your back staring up at a very smug Melody.

"Ohhhhh bad move puppy dog." She says

In the span of a heartbeat and a quick breathe you remind yourself what Winnie said about grappling. Its like solving a puzzle. You have to get the pieces to fit in order to win. Position over submission she said.

No. No way you're tapping out to her. No way.

You try to angle your face for the bite but she's got her arm right under your chin. Tears blur your vision. You can't breathe...

How did she get around your back? How did she get both arms around your head? How did she intertwine her ankles with yours and force your legs painfully apart?

You don't even know the names of the moves she's using let alone how she so easily locked them in.

"Just fucking give up already!" She growls in your ear.

"Sally, do ya give up?" You hear Winnie ask you.

You give a defiant shake of your head. You won't give up. You refuse to give up.

Your head feels light. What do you do? Your legs are trapped. Your arms aren't strong enough to push hers away. Her weight pulls you down toward her.

But there's got to be a way. You want to be the longshot. You want to beat her. You want to hear her say "I surrender".

You had no idea fighting could be so strategic. You feel like you're back at chess club, checkmated by a strategy you didn't see coming.

And just like with chess club you feel your dire situation stoke the fires of your competitive wolfish spirit...

You want to win. You want to win bad.

The choke subtracts 1+1 cumulative each turn from your HP. So you lost 4 HP putting you in the negatives.

>Knock out

...And then things go black.

Consciousness returns to you slowly and clumsily. You feel something shaking you so you lash out. Something grabs hold of your fist. Someone calls your name. You open your eyes and see someone crouched over you.

"B-Back off Melody..." You mumble sleepily. "I don't submit. I don't submit..."

"Melody ain't here right now."

Your vision clears and you see Winnie standing above you. "Also that was a pretty good punch, especially for someone half awake."

"Half awake?" You ask, memory a little fuzzy. You look around for Melody. Weren't you supposed to fight her?

And then you remember.

Yeah you were. And yeah you did. And yeah you lost.

Emotions hit you like a tidal wave.

You stood up to your bully and got your ass kicked. She choked you out in front of the pack.

You squeeze your eyes shut. You grit your teeth.

You told yourself that you would be fine losing.

But now that you've actually lost...you feel like you want to cry.

You can take comfort in your moral victories. You can take comfort in forcing Melody to kneel to you. You can take comfort in

But you realize now as you struggle to pick yourself off the floor that what you wanted wasn't comfort from your bullies.

You wanted to defeat them.

"Sorry Sally." Winnie says. "You lost."

Frustration squeezes tears from your eyes.

"There's no shame in crying Sally. Let it all out."

You throw your head back and yell a tearful howl into the sky.

Its echoed by several wolves standing nearby that waited you to wake up-most of the audience for the fight.

You cringe and try to hide your tears.

"I'm not crying!" You say. "I'm not!"

"It was better then my first fight, I can tell you that much!"

"You went down fighting!"

"She didn't even tap out!"

"You got real skill Sally, you should train!"

Winnie offers you her shoulder and helps you get shakily to your feet. "Easy Sally, just lean on me."

You smile at the crowd of packmates, their eyes starting to glow in the dimming evening light.

Out of the crowd of eyes a wolf with your color of red fur approaches you.

You recognize the scent immediately.

"Papa?"

"I never thought I'd see you fight." He says proudly. "And I never thought you'd fight so well."

"She beat me papa...and I didn't even get one good blow on her...":

His large hand strokes your hair comfortingly. "You stood your ground and fought for what's yours."

"But I lost..."

"That's not what's important." He kisses your forehead. "Are you going to start taking lessons? You were great for someone that just learned. I'm afraid our old man isn't that skilled in rough housing but I know some guys that can teach you if you're interested."

"I'd be happy to train her myself Sir." Winnie says.

Papa gives a polite nod. "That would honor our entire family Alpha."

"Hey, no problem. You know Sally's a good friend of mine...you wanna train some more Sally?"

"Yes." You say firmly. "I never thought I'd ever see what made fighting so appealing to everybody...but I got an appreciation for it now. I had always heard that it took strategy to fight but I never really understood the extent of that statement until now. And what's more I want to get better then Melody. I want to get so good I beat her as easily as she beat me."

"Stick with me. I'll train ya right!" Winnie says.

"Your mother is going to freak." Papa says with a smile.

"I'll talk to her." You say. "I've let this rough and tumble side of myself stay chained up long enough. I want to let it out. You always said I needed to be more wolf."

"And to think your mother said I was pressuring you to be something you aren't."

"I still feel human first papa. That hasn't changed. Don't think this is going to end in me going on a hunting trip."

"Oh I don't know... You start fighting, then you start hunting, and before long you're prowling and going to college in your fur..."

You smile. "Not going to happen papa."

"Well let an old man dream...now when we get home tonight letssssss not mention what happened for awhile to your mother."

"I told you I'll handle her."

"And that is what I'm afraid of! By the way, you don't want to forget this..." Papa hands you his leather jacket.

"Sorry I didn't ask before taking it. I wasn't sure what was going to happen so I wasn't sure how to ask for it..."

"It's not mine now." Papa holds his jacket out toward you.

"But...But its yours!" You protest. "Your special jacket that you made after you placed in the Alpha tournament!"

"It's for the fighter in the family." He says. "And right now that's you."

You take his jacket, now your jacket, into your arms.

You stare at him, not knowing what to say.

"Whatever you are Sally, wolf or human, winner or loser, fighter or scientist, you're my daughter. And I'm proud of you."

You close the gap between you and your papa in a flash. "Papa..." You say as his arms close around you, determined not to wet his shirt with tears.

Nothing more needs to be said. The howl that erupts from the crowd says more about the moment then any human words could.

RETURNING TO ANON MODE

"What the hell are ya looking so down about Anon?" Winnie says as she walks with you.

"I just...I just think things could have gone better is all."

"Better? She raises an eyebrow. "Melody and Thorn got a reality check, Sally got in touch with her inhibited wolf side while still maintaining pride in her choice to be mostly human, and I got to show off my kick-ass problem solver in front of the pack! What the hell do you mean "could have gone better?""

"I was hoping Melody and Sally could have had a heart-to-heart."

"She's going to challenge Melody again when she's ready."

"But I want them to be friends-I know they can be friends. Melody puts up a hard shell but she's not a bad person. And I think her reputation could use being friends with Sally."

"Anon..." Winnie stretches, pushing back her head and shoulders against her raised arms. "You gotta learn one of these days that life ain't like one of those Japanese computer games you play where its just words and pictures and clicking choices-"

"Visual novels."

"Yeah those. There's not like, a perfect path you can take through life. We did good. Real good."

"I still wish Sally won."

"She did. And in a big way."

"...Maybe you're right." You give a little smile.

"Of course I'm right knucklehead!" Winnie lightly smacks you on the back of your head. "I'm the Alpha remember?"

"Now...what was that thing that was bothering you about White Fell?" You ask. "I mean before everything with Sally started. What's up?"

White Fell. She took your tail, humiliated you in front of your pack, and now she's kidnapped your boyfriend to lure you out to the middle of nowhere.

She told you that there was something you had left that she didn't take from you during duel. Your life maybe?

You were friends once...good friends. You can't understand how she can hate you so much now.

The snow crunches under your bare feet. The October wind makes your plaid shirt dance around your supple body. White Fell's smell is on the wind. You lift your nose and sniff...she's close...very close...

There.

White Fell stands before you, head held arrogantly high. The wind blows her wild hair over her face and shoulders and horns. She wears the same simple deerskin dress she wore to humiliate you in front of your pack. The blood from your lost tail is still present on the hem.

"Where's Anon?!" You demand.

"Your animal is safe. I didn't harm a hair on his head. I want him alive so that he can see you reject the perverse bond between you two."

"The hell are ya talking about? You said ya wanted to take something from me. What were ya talking about?"

"Yes. I want to take your purity.

Your golden eyes widen. "My...what now?"

"Your purity. I want you to surrender it to me. As you would surrender it to your mate."

"Wait....wait wait wait wait...the thing you wanted to take from me...is my virginity?"

"It is the last thing you could possibly have pride in. When I take it from you, and you are forced to apologize for your imperfection to your animal...then you will have been shamed as I have been shamed by you and my revenge will have been complete!"

"White Fell..." You growl. "You crazy backward inbred monster WENDIGO! I'm going to pay you back for everything ya did to me! I'm gonna...I'm gonna..." The burning anger in your chest makes it hard to speak. "I'm gonna tame ya so bad...tame ya like a little dog!"

"Ya won't beat me again White Fell! I'm ready for you now!" You grab a hold of her two horns, one in each hand.

"Ah..." She mutters spitting out a mouthful of snow. "Release my crown of glory at once you omega bitch!"

Hello our lord and savior!

>Very good!

White Fell bucks, but you keep on top of her back by squeezing your legs around her sides. "How dare you treat me like a animal!" She snarls and slashes at your legs.

"Ride em' Wendigo." You mock. The sensuous muscles of your legs flew as you squeeze White Fell's ribs. She groans and stretches, a tear appearing at one of the shoulders of her dress.. Her chest strains against the deerskin as you wretch her head up, putting torturous pressure on her back.

"What's the matter?" You mock staring down into her dark eyes and savoring the slight spark of fear you find in them. "Don't tell me you're done already-I'll tell you when you're done!"

Smash her head into the ground repeatedly. See if we can rattle something in there or stun her.

Shame its such a cold climate and we aren't somewhere warm and swampy.

Punch her in the throat! Lets get her down on her knees already!

"Let go of me!" She demands.

"Make me!" You release one horn to lash out with an elbow straight into her neck and follow it up with a punch.

"Le..." White Fell gasps as she falls to her knees. "LET GO OF ME!" She cries in a voice growing in panic.

"How 'bout no?" You unwind your legs and put your feet flat against her back and kick forward with all your might. Her head and torso shoot forward and smash into the ground with such force that that snow caught in the tree branches crash to the ground in a single thunderclap.

"RMPH IFT!" She cries with a mouth full of snow as she tries unsteadily to sit up.

You wrap your arms around the stunned Wendigo's neck and squeeze. She thrashes wildly, but with her legs stuck underneath herself and her back aching from your torture she can do little than press against you.

White Fell coughs as the life is slowly choked out of her. You're winning. You're doing good. You know that. But you also know how quickly the momentum of a fight can change and how skilled White Fell is with wrestling. You're on guard for any tricks.

She tries to flip you over her shoulder. She tries to tuck her head under your arm, she tries getting her feet underneath herself and standing back up.

Nothing works.

"Ya wanna try beggin' bitch?" You ask.

White Fell starts clawing behind herself in wild abandon. A few swipes manage to graze your shoulder and arms, but the wounds to little more than invigorate you as they stay open only long enough for the chilled wind to brush past them.
