Classic Quest
A Fenster Production

Classic quest is a co-operative skirmish fitted to retro rpg systems. Emphasis is on role-play and character interaction, with combat being simplified in front of the screen but holding depth behind. Players themselves choose what their character will do and the paths they will follow, but as a whole it is the group in collaboration who will pull towards one outcome or another.

If you enjoy the retro aesthetic, classic Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and other classic game systems then this is what you're looking for. Unlike the classic systems, the combat encounters are planned and should be intuitive enough to foresee their arrivals, and difficulties are pre-set in order to prevent time spent grinding just to complete basic quests. The system itself does include dice rolls, but they are all on back-end. All that a player needs to understand is their character and what they want to accomplish. Characters themselves will be capable of customization right away, holding unique sprites once they have acquired non-standard gear to equip.

For anyone wishing to play a character, just follow the steps shown in the image. Listed below is also a text-based summary as a sort of assistant primer to help provide clarity to your choices.

Step One: Get a Job
Characters begin play with a Job of their choosing, which can also be considered their class. Jobs provide proficiencies for weapons, and a subtle means to equip gear other than the character's arsenal. This includes new clothes, armour, and accessories.
Note: The first letter of your Job's name will be your designation (Shown to be [A] [H] or [W] currently)

Step Two: Arm Yourself
Of your available proficiencies, pick one. You'll get the standard weapon of that group, which will be visible in the next image for full detail. A summary of the weapon groups will be listed below.

Melee Weapons

Axe - Blade-headed weapons with a high damage output and capacity for inflicting a variety of debilitations on defenders.
>Carver - Hit: C, Dmg: B [Str: B] Traits: Beast Killer, Harvest

Hammer - Blunt-headed weapons with a high damage output. Focuses on denying defenders advantages directly.
>Humility - Hit: C, Dmg: B [Str: C, End: C] Traits: Power Smash, Smash

Knife - Short, bladed weapons with a tendency towards devious or clever strategies. Best in the hands of an opportunist.
>Promise - Hit: A, Dmg: D [Dex: A, Spd: B] Traits: Backstab, Anticipate

Polearm - Length weapons that employ establishing an advantage for the wielder. Overall well-rounded and capable of fitting to any playstyle.

Sword - Bladed weapons of simple enough design for anyone to employ. Flexible in use and able to be effective with any wielder.

Shield - Wielded protection. Standard issue to anyone who begins play with an Axe, Crossbow, Hammer, Pistol, or Sword.

Ranged Weapons

Bow - Always held in two hands, employs the skills of the user the most. Often holds more traits than other weapon types.
>Ranger - Hit: B, Dmg: C [Dex: B, Spd: B, Att: B] Traits: Beast Killer, Flurry Shot, Imbrued Shot, Puncture Shot

Crossbow - Fires smaller, heavier projectiles than a bow. A good alternative for anyone not willing to train in archery.

Pistol - Compact, hand-held firearms. Powerful and intimidating, but difficult to aim while in combat.

Rifle - Long-barrel firearms. Stronger and mildly easier to aim, but slow to recover.

Step 3: Educate Yourself!
From your Job, pick two skills. An example would be a Highwayman taking [Aim] and [Threaten] after choosing a Rifle for their weapon. This allows them to constantly improve their chance to hit with their shots on top of dealing extra damage, and the ability to cover allies through intimidation.

Any two skills from that class are suitable.

Step 4: Deploy
Just fill out this character sheet and have the top line in your post name, and you'll be ready for play!
Note: Make sure to always post your character sheet when you post actions, take your turn, or otherwise are doing something in game. Also be sure to link to posts you're interacting with. Think of it like the wire on a classic controller: you can't play if it's not connected!

Ablative Barrier [Skill]
>Projects a field of astral shields surrounding the user or an ally. Grants Protection, which halves incoming damage.

Anticipate [Skill]
>Drastically increases your chance to dodge incoming attacks. Bypasses overwatches.

Backstab [Attack]
>As it's namesake. Deals additional damage if the target is in the backlines or if suffering from a debilitation. Negates benefits provided by shields.

Bare Down [Attack]
>Assaults a target with all items on hand. Makes basic attacks with each wielded weapon, grants +1 Hit grade on all attacks if wielding two or more weapons.

Beast Killer [Attack]
>Basic attack made with the weapon that is intended to quickly deal with beasts. Bonus damage and a passive chance to instantly kill beast type creatures.

Beatdown [Attack]
>Strikes the target multiple times in quick succession.

Cleave [Attack]
>Melee attack that hits enemies nearby the target.

Flurry Shot [Attack]
>Fires multiple arrows in rapid succession. Hitting the same target multiple times treats the damage as if from a single attack.

Harvest [Skill]
>Use on organic targets. Deals less damage but grants a chance to immediately acquire materials from the defender.

Imbrued Shot [Attack]
>A basic attack that inflicts Bleed if it hits. Missing applies Bleed to the user instead.

Impact Brace [Skill]
>Blocks incoming attacks until damage is dealt. Treated as Defending while doing so.

Pierce Shot [Attack]
>Shot that can pierce through armor and shields. Deals additional damage against armored targets.

Point Blank [Skill]
>-Tap with an attack or skill using a Bow, Crossbow, Pistol, or Rifle to shoot while on the frontlines. While this skill is active, shots deal boosted damage against frontline targets. Can only be used while in the frontline.

Power Smash [Attack]
>Melee attack with extra weight behind it. Deals additional damage against armored targets, and decreases End of the defender if not armored.

Puncture Shot [Attack]
>Shot that pierces through multiple targets. Deals additional damage against unarmored targets.

Richocet [Attack]
>Shot that bounces off of the terrain. Denies cover provided to the target. Bypasses overwatch and defending effects.

Slam [Attack]
>Bashes the defender with the shield. Has a small chance to inflict Stun, but a moderate chance to inflict Daze.

Slice [Attack]
>A quick cut made with a blade. Deals additional damage against unarmored targets. >-Tap to make a basic attack.

Smash [Attack]
>Melee attack with weight put behind it. Has a moderate chance to Stun, and a high chance to Daze.

Snipe [Attack]
>Basic attack that can hit a target not sharing the same screen. Different-screen targets treat this attack as a surprise attack, and targets who have not moved since their last turn take an automatic critical hit. Same-screen targets lose benefits provided by cover.

Speed Loader [Skill]
>-Tap to immediately reload the weapon. Works on Crossbows, Pistols, and Rifles.

Sweep [Skill]
>Clears out the surrounding area to give room to self and allies. Pushes the defender and nearby enemies from the frontlines into the backlines.

The party ventures forth, towards the keep gate in order to get to the bottom of the situation happening in the tower. Turncoat gets a stern look before a nod of approval from the Chieftain.

The Prince stands in silence, gazing up to the tower looming overhead. His hand grasping the sword shakes with a silent rage boiling up within his being. "He was my father's adviser. They met while young, and had many an adventure together while undergoing the trial of birthright. Together they gave means to this city, named after a friend they met while traveling who passed away under mysterious circumstances. Now... now it seems much less mysterious in how they disappeared."

"Hm... interesting," the creature rasps with what sound like dying breaths "The assassin failed his task, and the raiders have been subdued. No matter..." Their body rises from the floor, revealing amorphous crimson swirling underneath the tattered robes.

The Prince draws his blade, leather groaning in stress underneath his grip. "I'll put an end to you, traitorous Fawkes!"

"You'll do no such thing." The howls of the dead echo throughout the city in response to the outburst. Bright, glistening eyes flicker with otherworldly insight and illumination. A portal to the void opens up beneath the prince, with bars and glyphs of heresy closing as teeth to meat. Pulled into the ground, the prince attempts to break through the barrier erected around him with the sword, but his efforts bare no fruit. With a shout of defiance and fury, he disappears into the floor, and the portal alongside him. The being, labeled as Fawkes, turns an eye to the party. The jaw lowers from the skull to unleash a heavy command. "Let none survive."

The party pushes on until they find the base of the tower. Wooden doors rest on broken hinges, and the guardsmen hurry to force them out of the way. Within the tower floor lay corpses of other guardsmen absent of life. A low octave throb can be felt coming from the ascending stairwell. There is also another stairwell which is descending on the same wall as the one visible, but there is far too much rubble in the way to venture below as of this moment.
