Welcome to Mechanized Pilot Quest where you control Unit 77, quiet Combat Armour pilot. Voluntarily joining into Confederate Army, he was rolled into a program where doctors surgically implanted cybernetics that allow him to control Combat Armours with his mind.In the last thread, your squadron of similar pilots made landfall to New Delaware to prevent rebel forces from gaining control and independence from the Confederacy. Unit 77 got in contact with Operator King, intel officer stationed in space. Thanks to her access to warship superior scanners many problems were solved. Joining forces with 5th Marine Battalion led by grizzled Major Strong, Unit 77 fought against the rebels twice with latter battle ending in capturing of Thomas McKean Space Port. With only one pocket of rebels remaining in the spaceport, all seems clear.Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Mechanized%20PilotTwitter: https://twitter.com/ReentryVehicleCurrent Quest theme song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XqHGfs3KPM (with lyrics it makes more sense)Few bursts of gunfire still rang across the spaceport as remaining stragglers who didn’t want to surrender fought till death. These irregularities didn’t matter anymore as the battle was resolved, but with pocket of rebels in terminal nothing was clear. Taking your Gladius on stroll through the hangars you saw that the space lifter were mostly in one piece. The assault being quite swift, most of them survived without a scratch. It does take some time for the men to check the hangars and those few hardened aircraft shelters.“Operator King, what is the situation in the terminal” You messaged her.“There is apparently a platoon sized group of rebels fortified themselves into the cafeteria. Apparently they cannot get out and we cannot get in, at least without big casualties. And just call me King, never been a fan of formalities” She answered.“King, please do not look into the monitor episode. These things are most likely classified for reason. Might get you in trouble.” You messaged her after awhile. “I understand Seven, I am not going to snoop.”Cont.
>>889210The casual stroll to the terminal was soon over as you were waved over by a marine with message that Major Strong would like to talk to you. Letting the marine to guide you to the Major, you saw him talking to other men. Seeing you approach closer he waved you closer and talked.“Unit 77. What I heard you had some good performance at the hangars, but the situation is not completely clear. Operator King most likely has informed you about the situation on the last pocket. I hope your Combat Armour can be the thing that swings the scales toward us.” Major Strong told you which you picked by the suits computer reading his lips. “Captain Templeton care to explain what we tried?”“Yes Major. We have send requests for their surrender, but they haven’t agreed or haven’t just answered. They know that we are in a small stalemate, but they know that we can just storm them. If we do that it will be costly for us” Captain Templeton explained.“You know what we are facing Unit 77. Do you or Operator King have any idea what we could try?”What do you do, what do you suggest?>My Combat Armour might tip the scales, by its presence.>My Combat Armour might tip the scales, by its presence and through my speakers.>If it goes to shooting, I can be very useful in it.>Let the marines storm them.>Write in.What you know about the rebels is that they are mostly irregular forces augmented by local reservists and weekend warriors. They do not have the same discipline or training compared to Confederate Marines. They might be more loyal to their cause, but are not fanatics who fight till death. At least not everyone is that fanatic.
>>889211>My Combat Armour might tip the scales, by its presence and through my speakers.Tell them to surrender that they may yet get out of this with their lives. Else we will have to engage. And give them full view of our flame thrower.
>>889211>>My Combat Armour might tip the scales, by its presence and through my speakers.
Going to give 10 minutes if somebody else has any suggestions, then I start writing.
>My Combat Armour might tip the scales, by its presence and through my speakers.“Sir. My Gladius might fit inside the terminal. If I can get close enough I could use my speakers to motivate them” Your electronic voice came out of the speakers.“Splendid, I will instruct men to get into their positions and give you room to move. Up to it” Major Strong said and clasped his hands together.“Are you sure this is going to work Seven. They are loyal to their cause after all” King asked you“I do not know, but it is better to try”Carefully maneuvering your Gladius over the ruins and into the vast terminal structure, you were guided towards the cafeteria. You were bit worried that your Gladius couldn’t fit, but the architects had some strange fixation everywhere to make the terminal structures as high as possible. Switching your sensor suit online, you carefully walked where the front line was and saw the situation. The rebels had fortified their position with sandbags and blocks of concrete, and what you could tell they could defend their spot quite well. Around you marines took their positions with several APCs trying to follow you over the rubble. "Flexing" and bracing your Combat Armour, you fixed your autocannon and flamethrower arm towards the rebels. You were ready.Give me 1d100, best of three

Opening your speakers and getting the message ready you broadcasted.“Fighters of Delaware Independence Army, I bring a message from Major Strong of 5th Marine Battalion. Surrender now and he makes sure, by his honour as an officer to make sure you get out of here in one piece. Laws of warfare give you protection, so that as prisoners of war you get back to your homes” Your electronic voice boomed towards the rebels. You could see that there was murmur and movement in ranks of the rebels and then there was a reply shouted at you.“Oh fuck off you Confederate bastard, we want none of your shit.”Not really surprising at all, they are loyal to their cause. But what happened next came to you as surprise. A shot rang out. You waited bit longer as nothing happened until somebody shouted back.“We will surrender, enough is enough, we don’t follow that dead lunatic anymore”You felt relieved that you didn’t have to kill them. Normally you wouldn’t care less, but maybe the previous days have caused something. Watching the ragtag bunch of men march out of their hideout, you turned away and walked out of the terminal. While the battle was over the cleanup will continue.Still very exhausted from the fighting, even though you didn’t use combat drugs the fighting takes most out of you. Connection between you and the suit is very tiresome and you probably haven’t yet gotten over from falling from the ladder. You had few options to do now as the fighting was over, technically not being part of the 5th Battalion you don’t have no compulsory tasks to do.>Go to meet Major Strong at CP to discuss what next.>You don’t feel that great, go to meet Doctor Joki>Your suit took some battle damage, go check it out with Hide>Do something else, write inYou can always choose more than two. Rolled 34 (1d100)>>889328ill second this. the major can congratulate us tomorrow, hell be busy now anyway. he can always see us in the infirmary anyway.
“King, please inform Major Strong that I am going to get my suit working with Hideaki” You messaged King.“I do not know who Hideaki is, but I will inform Major Strong, try to get yourself fixed. You don’t look that great” King answered.Walking towards the Battalion rear where you thought Hide to be checked out. Finding Hide as he was working on APC that had gotten shot relegated the task to other mechanics of the battalion to work on your Gladius.“I don’t see that bad damage, but let's go through all systems just like yesterday.” Hide said. “Getting to see your gear makes my day”It took you few hours to go through all systems, but they came out without problems. Thought weak spots in the armour couldn’t be fixed and most pieces of bent steel straightened most things worked. Getting resupplied, expect the Mjölnir, you were ready to go.“Tell our Major that we will work overtime to get our APCs into working order. He can count on that”Finally you started to feel better. Still tired, but better. You took your suit towards the CP to meet Major Strong. Just like before, orienteering towards the circles of officers and NCOs talking shit. You found the CP soon.“Unit 77, finally you are here. I think you managed to get your Combat Armour into working order.” Major Strong said“Sir, Unit 77 is ready to act. Hide asked me to tell you that they will work overtime to get APCs into working order.” You said to him through speakers.“Good to hear, I would have wanted to see you earlier, but for you the suit is the utmost importance. I can understand that. There is a person that would like to see you. Ouchi Yuuka, the Superintendent of this space port. She has thanked every officer in the battalion already and after hearing about you wanted to see you.” Major Strong chuckled. “After you have seen her, we can discuss about the next actions. My staff is preparing report of the action and what is going to happen next. She is in her office in upper floor of terminal”Major Strong waved you off and went away to talk to some officers nearby. It really looked like that was an order from Major Strong. You realized that you would have to get out of the Gladius to meet her and you don’t have the monitor anymore with you.>Just go meet her, it shouldn’t take long and then just come back fast.>Go get that monitor>Don’t go meet the Superintendent and just wait until the report is ready.

>>889396Before I make my decision is there any medical or technological reason we can't/don't want to just talk to people or are we just really introverted and autistic?
>>889396>>Just go meet her, it shouldn’t take long and then just come back fast. we don't need a civillian searching about a combat armour pilot talking through a monitor
>>889411There really is no reason for you to not talk. You haven't just talked to people much after joining to military. Practically your life has been moving from campaign to campaign under quite strict discipline. Practically you are in cold-sleep (not!cryo) during transits and after that inside your combat armour or suit as you call it. Basically as you haven't talked to other much so you have grown to not talk much to other. You have just followed orders that is all.Hopefully this clears things up a bit.
>>889396>>Just go meet her, it shouldn’t take long and then just come back fast.>>889427In that case it would be really inefficient to run for a monitor every time we need be somewhere in person. Don't need be some eloquent wordsmith, just hold a conversation long enough to get our orders and what not.
>writing! And sorry for being bit slow today. I have too much distractions around me.
“Alright, it should be over soon. She is a civilian, I should be in and out under five minutes” You thought.Shutting down all the systems and sending a message to King to see if there is anything happening around the space port or any news from the high brass. You removed yourself from the harness. It always hurt a bit to get in and out, but you have gotten used to it. Opening the hatch and letting fresh air in, you climbed out and very carefully stepped down. Your left leg still hurts a lot, but by being careful you managed to go down the ladder and jump down.Navigating through the terminal wasn’t that hard, there was signs directing towards the offices everywhere. You saw assorted marines patrolling or carrying bodies of the rebels downstairs, but mostly you saw the civilians that were working in the space port collecting things and seeing if their belongings were still there where they left them. As you wobbled towards the office block you got few nods from the civilians along with few looks. Finding the office didn’t take long and you knocked on the door twice.“Please come in” Came her voice. You opened the door and and closed it behind you. Saluting her you said.“Unit 77 here as ordered, you wanted to see me” You said with quiet voice“Oh yes I wanted to see you, not everyday you get to see your saviors. I am Ouchi Yuuka the Superintendent of this place, pleased to meet you. We had been in the basement for few days already. Do you want coffee, proper coffee not shit ersatz stuff?” She said with soft voice to you from behind her desk where her coffeemaker was.Nodding to her, she prepared another cup of hot steamy coffee.“Here you go” She said and game small smile, but you saw that she was pretty tired. “We all have went through our own troubles lately, but hopefully this war ends soon. I really cannot stand the rebels. Their ideas might be noble, but how they try to achieve them are barbaric. Just look at me, haven’t had a proper shower since your ships appeared in orbit. You also look like shit ” She chuckled and pointing at your pilot overalls stained with dirt and bit of blood.“Benefits of being a soldier” You answered while sipping to coffee. Thank god it tasted great.“True, true. Well I bet you have a lot of things to do so I won’t bother you anymore. You can take the cup with you, we have a storage room full of those cups for our business associates.” She laughed“Thank you for the coffee” You answered, saluted and took your leave. Shutting the door behind you you started to wobble towards the CP again. She was lovely lady and coffee was best coffee you had in long time. Reminded you a bit of the time before military.>Go to the meeting directly, it will start soon>Take a detour to meet the doctor, you still were feeling tired and not well.>Take a detour and go check if King has managed to scrounge anything up.
>>889490>>Go to the meeting directly, it will start soonIf it's starting soon we should be there. If the operation gives us an hour to prepare then we should hit up the Doc.
>>889510>Take a detour to meet the doctor, you still were feeling tired and not well.
Wobbling forward with cup in your hand you decided to go to the CP to see the Major. Going back to the CP was easier as you didn’t have to walk the stairs up. Giving the mandatory salutes to officers passing you, you entered Majors tent and saw rest of the officers already around the table. Noticing coffeemaker you refilled your cup and approached the table.“Unit 77, you had a good talk with the Superintendent? Such a helpful person. Please join us.” Major Strong said”“It was pleasant” You answered back.Major Strong waved Captain Templeton, the battalion intel officer to start the report.“We were very lucky in our attack. We managed to secure all three objectives without major losses to us or damage to the space port. We got the terminal in one piece with all their systems still working, albeit the walls are now full of bullet holes. Hangars were also secured with surprisingly large number of still functional space lifters. They will be most likely commandeered shortly by Confederate pilots. We also found few Shrike Attack Crafts” This mention caused minor talking between the officers for a good reason, why didn’t the rebels move all this away?. “Supply structures are bit different case, while we captured them, the amount of stuff that is useful to us, is not much. We only found small amount of dry food pallets and other materials. Contractor Kuwabara will be supervising the confiscation of those materials and will see if he can take anything useful”“What is the situation with the enemy?” Major Strong asked.“Situation is following. We are advancing on every front with rebels now in coordinated retreat. The rebel forces north of us have been concentrating their forces and most likely are preparing for counterattack. We have already started to dig in north of the space port to make sure that we don’t damage it anymore. We have started to see regulars of the New Delaware Army in the mix more and most likely this means that they are going to get the their better equipment into combat. This means that they are either desperate to use their better troops now or that they are confident that they can push us away”. Captain Templeton said while showing the unit movements on the map. “ We know that approximately battalion or more sized force is going to either attack us or act as a diversion for another attack. Good thing is that because our defensive lines are in front of previous objectives we have access to heavy artillery. We also have room to move which is good for us”“Thank you Captain Templeton. Command has made it clear that space port cannot fall back to their hands. If we can hold here, rest of the division will most likely push forward and open the road toward inner part of the city. It is utmost importance that we cannot lose this battle. Any questions gentlemen?” Major Strong finalized the briefing situation.Cont.
>>889534Defenses are located so that 5th Marine Battalion has enough room to allow proper retreat towards the objectives captured earlier today. All locations are fortificated quickly and firing lanes are cleared. Companies are prepared for hasty rebel attack. There is a thin strip of scrubland between the space port and city proper. This means that the enemy has to cross the empty land to reach you, but nothing is stopping them from just shooting at you from safety of their side of the town. Getting in and attaching yourself back to the harness. This quite normal progress made yourself proud, you still had your coffee mug half full of coffee with you.“King, did you manage to find anything useful” You messaged her while sipping the coffee. She appeared to your screen shortly looking bit tired.“Not much Seven, cloud cover isn’t helping at all and brass is breathing down our necks. We have been concentrating on their objectives for the afternoon on the other side of the city. What I managed to see was that they have heavy vehicles which they have been trying to hide inside structures. Overall consensus it that they are MBTs. They also have good number of lighter vehicles. So there is at least a battalion of men and equipment” She said. “Is that coffee what I see”“Yes” You messaged and showed the mug closer to the camera.“That is a space ports mug! Where did you get that?“The Superintendent of the space port gave it. We had a talk” You answered.“You talked to the Superintendent? But you don’t talk. At least not much” She sounded very confused. “Why don’t you talk?”You sigh and take a sip from the cup. You thought a bit about not answering, but decided to do so.“Habit. Experimental unit, discipline. Not much talking between us in our squadron.” You said to her in quiet voice. “We go into combat, and when not in combat, simulations or cold-sleep”“I understand” King said and continued after a small pause. “You have your reasonings. Nevertheless back to the business, there is rumours among us intel officers. High brass might want to finish this conflict soon. Other divisions have been attacking the rebels in full force, there is already problems with supply as they advance too fast. Don’t know how that will affect you. I need to go now Seven, we have to continue our other task. Be well”With that she signed off and you were alone again. Drinking the last of the coffee you made towards the front and prepared for the night to come.Your scanners picked some movement at the houses on the rebel side of the no man's land early in the evening. Not much, but enough to warrant your attention for the night. As the health system administered nutrients you prepared for long night.Morning came soon and so did the rebel forces, activity had increased in the past two hours a lot with marines preparing to take on the attack. With 4th Company in reserve you were as prepared as you could be. 5.30AM sharp came the barrage, low intensity barrage which lasted 30 mins begun and started to hammer the marine positions. They are attacking everywhere and have already pushed the marines at supply structures away from their first line of defense. Hangars are faring well, but either terminal or supply structure needs you.”You scanned the structures and the open ground you could see, but you didn’t see much to engage. Turning around you pushed the suit as much as possible , trying to get there as fast as you could. You started to hear reports on the battalion network how the 4th Company that came from the reserves counterattacked the rebels and managed to cause reasonably large casualties at them.Arriving at the supply structures you saw that the situation was much worse than what you thought it be. Rebels had already partially overran the positions marines were holding earlier and managed to push into the cover the structures provide. Your arrival caused two things: First the engineers exploded their pre positioned explosives that were dug front of the original positions and second they went into a counterattack. A chain of explosions shook the ground as large quantities of dirt got blown into air. Completely disrupting the rebel attack the marines rushed forward. Seeing this as your possibility to act you followed. With autocannon, fire and machine gun you swept forward. Firing rebel troops in behind sandbags, rebel troops in open and rebels in full flight. You didn’t think about them as human beings, just as a opponent to destroy, a sensor marking to remove from your vision. Rebel LAI 2 was gutted by your autocannon and second lost its track to your fire. Then ground exploded in front of you. Instantly reacting and moving towards cover you called King.“Do you see them?” You said to her quickly.“Give me time” She answered.“We don’t have time” You said back.“There, three MBTs. People who has been under the effects of combat drugs usually describe the effect as very light. You feel like there is no restrains stopping you as you can do things that normally wouldn’t be possible. Heightened senses, reflexes, everything. With you being connected to the machine and its sensors, you felt everything around you. This moment of heightened senses also make everything to slow down for you, you can make decisions faster than the others can react. With the drugs coming in multiple flavours, yours in one that can be described as bloodlust or will to kill, this cocktail of chemicals is highly effective way to boost fighting capacity of the men. Of course there is side effects, but Command doesn’t mind about them. For them men are just tools that can be replaced.Going straight towards the MBT while firing the autocannon at it you reached your top speed and then broke it. Running 60km/h as you jumped over a startled squad of rebels you saw your 30mm darts hitting and shredding whatever was strapped onto the armor. This momentarily stunned the crew of the tank and allowed you to do what you thought you wouldn’t do either.Exhaling loudly in a grunt as your harness tried to keep you steady as the 19 ton walker slowed next to the MBT allowing you to grab its cannon with your left arm. Cannon fired right next to you and it shook the whole cockpit, but you held on. Starting to fire your autocannon point blank onto the turret roof, you finally got progress. Purely under the pressure of multiple rounds hitting same spot the turret roof caved in and super hot shrapnel rained inside killing the crew instantly. The effects of the drugs started to wear down as you stopped looking at the wreck of the now burning tank. Frantically blinking your eyes and trying to scan for the next MBT you saw the previously disabled MBT taking a recoilless rifle shell or two and exploding in great show of fireworks. You saw the third MBT and they saw you, question was who was going to fire first? You opened fire first, causing glancing hits just like before as you pushed you Gladius forward. Panting from exhaustion, you tried to concentrate on task at hand. You took a right lean as you tried to avoid their targeting. You had to get into their flank. Then they fired and you got hit.Give me 1d100, taking the second roll

The whole Combat Armour shook as you took the hit. Screens broke free from their riggings and armour flaked. For a moment you thought this it is, you are going to die, in your still improved senses, but nothing happened. Nearly falling down from the blast, you managed to push the now groaning walker forward. You knew that you had six seconds to go until they had loaded and already two seconds had passed. Your autocannon roared as its darts ripped apart the fenders and cut the tracks. It roared as you closed in the the darts started to hit the road wheels. It roared as the darts started to dig into sides of the tank. You still had some strength in you as you changed the direction fast to left and cut into rear of the tank as it tried to rotate away from you. But you were faster. Unloading the last of your darts into the engine compartment and then switching to HEI-T as they ran out you pumped shell after shell into the MBTs hull. At some point the tank had stopped moving and you saw smoke coming out of the barrel. You knew you had survived. It was long time since you had been this exhausted. The physical and mental stress from both combat drugs and from piloting the Combat Armour started to be too much, but you still had duty to do. Panting, sweating and extremely tired, you scanned the surrounding land and you were surprised. The enemy was on the run. Dropping their weapons, they ran as marines took their former positions. Many of them just ran past you, not caring about the six meters tall walker. They just wanted to get away.“Are you alright?” Came the voice of King who had most likely watched the whole thing. She was scared.“No” You said back quietly. "I am not alright" Then you noticed the spot where the shell had struck. It was still there. The head was sticking out inside your cockpit. It was a dud, a fucking dud.You laughed, you had never laughed as hard as you did then. There was only you and the laugh in the world then, nothing else.
>>890184And here we end for today. We and especially I got through the slog. I must apologize for lower quality of writing, but the writing exhaustion is starting to hit me. Tomorrow I will write a epilogue for what happened and try to get character sheet pastebin on to help you along some background stuff.Next session will happen 4PM GMT+0 on Saturday. I will need tomorrow to recharge my batteries and prepare stuff. I will inform you in both twitter and /qtg/. Nervous laughter is a physical reaction to stress, tension, confusion, or anxiety. We have nervous laughter because we want to make ourselves think what horrible thing we encountered isn't really as horrible as it appears. Much of this nervous laughter is produced in times of high emotional stress. That is what you knew about it. You laughed because you got through very hard situation. You laughed because you didn’t know what else to do.Holding your head in your arms, your laughter turned into low whimper which turned into violent coughing. Covering your mouth with your hand until your fit passed. Looking at your hand you noticed some blood. You have had these moments of weakness before, but not as bad as now. The blood was a new thing. Previously you could hide inside your suit, inside your own world you controlled. But not now, there was a witness to this. Your own world had just gone much smaller than it was before. You were no more six meters tall bringer of death that others would respect. You were a mortal man inside a metal shell.Slowly you started to calm down. First by taking deep breaths and then by health system administrating drugs that should help against the side effects of combat drugs. Your eyes started to feel heavy and there was throbbing pain across your body.“Do you feel better now Seven.” King asked. “I am concerned, it is not natural to laugh that much. I can contact the battalion doctor if you want.”“Please, do not. I have went through this before and I will go through now. This will go away. I just need to get to the mechanic, he can fix this.” There was weakness in your voice.“I can try to help” She pleaded.“No. King, you don’t understand what I am going through. I need…”“You don’t understand, I am getting sick from worrying. Twice in three days I have seen you being worse than shit. Exhausted to hell. And don’t just call me just King, my name is Catherine Mary King. Just call me Catherine.” There was clear anger in her voice now. Nobody had been angry at you like her in long time. You did not know what to say back.“Alright, I will go to the mechanic and you can watch. Try not to be taken back of what you might see.” You said to her in quiet voice after a pause.“Thank you Seven, this means a lot to me. I just cannot watch others suffer” You could see marines labouring around you, fixing fortifications, carrying dead bodies, trying to cope with what just happened. They had lost their friends, but they were soldiers just like you. You just had to get through all this. Everything is going to be fine.“Jonathan Weiss” You said suddenly“What did you say Seven.” She asked confused.“Jonathan Weiss, that is my name”Here ends the epilogue for the Second Battle of Thomas McKean Space Port. Tomorrow 4PM GMT+0 the quest continues as planned. If I don’t mess things up there should be a pastebin with character info for your usage. See you then.
>Combat ArmorNOT EVEN JUSTICE I WANT TO GET TRUTH
Welcome back to Mechanized Pilot Quest. Last session we managed to stop the Delaware Independence Army from attacking and recapturing Thomas McKean Space Port where 5th Marine Battalion was stationed. After bit of a socialising with Space Ports Superintendent Ouchi Yuuka and close meetup with rebels leading to near death experience.Personnel Files: http://pastebin.com/uXrmJyKkArchive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Mechanized%20PilotPrevious Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/882544/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ReentryVehicleCurrent Quest theme song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XqHGfs3KPM (with lyrics it makes more sense)“Your Combat Armour looks like shit, But ah well, we can most likely fix this. Thought we need you to get out. Can’t remove the tank round without you getting out. Too dangerous, what if it explodes when it is removed. We would lose you, the walker and the poor EOD guy.” Hide told you while hanging from your hatch upside down and at the dud sticking out from the front armour. “And by the way, Major probably wants to see you after what all happened. And most likely to debrief the situation. You should go now”Shutting all systems and giving Hide the maintenance manual, you detached yourself from the harness hurt a bit like always, but with Hides help you climbed out of the cockpit and lowered yourself to ground. Left leg still hurt a bit, but gladly you were still under effect of the chemicals health system administrated to you.The short walk to CP was surprisingly pleasant. While the air was full of smells of burning wrecks and gunpowder, it was still fresh air. Normally soldiers and civilians would give you a wide berth as Combat Armour pilots usually receive better pay and benefits due to their supposed elite status and you had the fact that you were part of experimental unit on top of that. But not now. You received few nods and salutes on the way to command tent. At first you were bit taken back and surprised. Stopping and hiding your smile behind you hand you carried on. Now with responding to soldiers with nod of your own.Cont.
>>892991We should take the dud shell and hang it in the cockpit as a memento.
>>896806After they remove it, that is.
>>896805Command tent was full of staff working. Trying to parcel the newest information or filing reports. Battalion had to be combat effective by tomorrow, but it didn’t really look like that would happen. Major Strong spotted you soon and waved you in to his corner of the tent“Hello Unit 77, I heard of your exploits earlier today. Grabbing a tank barrel with your left arm was very brave thing to do. Men of 2nd Company are indebted thanks to your actions. But not more about that now, but later. As you might have seen the situation is quite bad for our battalion. We have received approximately 23 percent casualties and because of that we are not fit for combat operations soon. Good thing is that we are going to stay here and secure the location for further use. Command has messaged us that in few days there is going to be a group of reinforcements and Navy personnel coming to check out the spacecraft at the hangars. The thing is while we have our hands full you do not have anything to do. And as we both know, soldier without a task is a bad combination. Do you want coffee?”“Yes please.” You said in your quiet voice and reached for the coffee mug in your military bag. Soon you had a cup full of hot coffee.“Templeton, could you please give a sitrep on the situation around the city?” Major asked and gave Templeton his own cup of coffee.“We are winning, that simple. Rebels tried to attack at every front, but they were repulsed nearly everywhere and our reinforcements went into counterattack. New thing that happened was that they used ballistic missiles for first time to strike at our landing sites and other important locations in our control. They might strike us, but same time they know that we cannot use this space port yet as they still have strong anti-air umbrella over us.”Captain Templeton told you, nodded and went back to filing a report.Major Strong turned back towards you and continued.“Now back to yesterdays and todays events. Because of your actions in both battles some of my subordinates wish to give you a Bronze Medal of Freedom for your actions in the battle. I disagree with them. You don’t deserve bronze, but Silver Medal of Freedom 2nd Class. I will have to push this through your superiors, but your service has already been quite excellent so getting that medal wouldn’t be impossible. What do you say?”You were taken back properly. It was rare for experimental units to get medals for their service, but it wasn’t unheard of. Now it only needed a green light from your superiors. Maybe they agree, or not.“Thank you Sir for your confidence on me” You said.“Great. Now then, how would you like to be occupied until we or you move on?” Major finished>My Combat Armour is a mess, it needs fixing>I am still bit weak from the fighting, Doctor Joki would probably want to see me>I think I could help here in CP, Operator King can lend her help>Superintendent might have something for me that I can do.>Write in

“My Gladius is broken and I might see Doctor for my leg” You said.“That is good, soldier should take care of itself and equipment he has. Alright off you go, I will be here if you need me.” Major Strong said and sat back to his chair. Understanding that it was time to go, you excused yourself after getting more coffee. Before you got a chance to leave Captain Templeton asked you to carry few files in a data card to Doctor Joki which you agreed to do. Hide had his hands full of broken APCs and your Gladius still had most likely the shell stuck, you decided to visit the good Doctor Joki.It was only few hours after the battle had ended, but the medical tent was full of action. Orderlies, nurses and assorted medical personnel working non-stop trying to save the ones that can be saved. Clerk who was behind a desk next to the entrance stopped you and after you had showed the data card allowed you to go inside proper. Soon you found Doctor Joki stitching a wound together on a soldier's leg. He noticed you and stopped the work.“Nurse, can you please finish this, I need to take a short break.” He said before handing the thread and needle away. Stripping his surgical gloves he continued. “It is good to see you still alive, how is your leg?”“Hurts.” You answered.“Finally you are talking, aren’t you.” There was sound of interest in him. He saw the change in your eyes after he said that. “Sorry about my interest, rarely I have customers like you. Not everyday you see something probably never done before. But did you have something for me, health issues or anything else. Otherwise the Clerk wouldn’t have allowed you in?”>Data card from Captain Templeton>Ask about the leg and other minor ailments.>Ask him about the monitor incident>Tell him about your nervous breakdownDo you want to tell more about your pass and implants to him?>Yes>No
>>896925>>Data card from Captain Templeton>>Ask about the leg and other minor ailments.>Anything that isn't classified
“From Captain Templeton” You said as you gave the data card to Doctor Joki.“Thank you, I was waiting for that card from him.” He said and pocketed it.”Can I see your leg? To see that stitches have held and it has started to heal proper.”You nodded and soon you were in your underwears and shirt sitting on a chair. Doctor Joki was checking the wound and nodded in approval.“Stitches have held which is good and scar tissue has started to form as usual. I will change the dressing and it should be good. Just don’t stress your leg too much.” He said. He then looked at the connectors on your legs and asked. “Those look like basic mobility connectors, but instead of being fixed on external strapping they are surgically implanted on you. That is why your pilot overalls have those connector ports in them. May I ask is there more in them?”You didn’t know if you should tell him, but decided to not to do so. Classified information after all. “Normal connectors for exoskeletons” You said to him. “I understand.” He said in a tone that made it clear that he knows that you know more than that. “It doesn’t matter 77- I think I can live without that information. Do you have anything else?”“Implants hurt sometimes.” You said quietly.Doctor Joki pondered for a moment and said. “Common thing with implants. Easiest solution would be taking painkillers, but I presume your health system can administer more potent stuff than what I can give. So the next solution is stretching. You are in your cockpit for long periods not that much moving so it is no wonder that there is pains. Move more and drink water. I have nothing else to you so if you would excuse me, I think I have to stick my hands inside somebody's guts next”.He left his room and you carefully put on your overalls and started to go back to your suit. Hopefully they had removed the shell already. Finishing your now cold coffee, you thought. Drinking water, is it that easy?
>>897005When you got back to your suit you saw Hide standing next to the Combat Armour watching as one EOD personnel was removing the remnants of the shell.“Hello Seven. They are removing the rod now. There was no explosives or anything, just poor quality penetrator that shattered when it hit the armour. Do you want it as souvenir, I can get somebody to drill a hole into it so that you can hang it to somewhere to remind that you nearly died?” He asked enthusiastically. You nodded to him, but said. “Why did you call me Seven?”“Well I talked to the lovely lady on the screen when I was inside the cockpit checking the rod and after seeing it being not dangerous at all fixing the spalling damage. We changed exchanged pleasantries and there I learned. But shall we do the full maintenance now as you are here?”Two hours later you were still going through systems as Hide and his crew were fixing the armour with repurposed armour plate taken from destroyed APC. According to him it should protect as much as before, but try not to get hit. There was some minor mechanical problems with your harness and you had to ask Hide to check them.“So this is the system that you use to control the Combat Armour. It follows your movement just like in films or what?”>Tell Hide how it works exactly, this includes classified stuff.>Tell Hide how it works, but don’t tell him classified stuff. “Headplug and two-way EEG read my brainwaves. Connectors keep me still. I don’t need control surfaces.” You said to him.“Yeah I can see how that works. After all we already have systems that can be controlled by brains. Haven’t just seen them yet. It shouldn’t take long for me to fix this, exoskeletons all the time have these. By the way, can you connect normal exoskeleton to your connectors?”“Yes.” Sun was already starting to set as you finally got all work done. Now with your suit being replenished and repaired you were good to go. Taking it for a spin you decided to patrol for some time, after all you cannot get much sleep when connected to your suit.Morning came in it all dusky glory. The weather had turned worse with constant cloud cover and it looked like it was going to rain any moment now. You tried to snooze for the past four hours with not good results and at 7 AM you woke as Operator King, well Catherine as she told you to call her appeared to your screen.“Morning Seven.” She said to you, looking very tired. You nodded back. “Do you want the good news or bad news first?”“Good.”“We are winning, rebels are retreating on all fronts here in New Delaware. We should be able to clear the city in two weeks at max. Bad news is that they are growing more desperate last night they threw complete rabble at us and there was even suicide bombers. There has been also some very disturbing unit movements in their rear, apparently they are dragging their old missile systems to usage. We thought Delaware had scrapped them years ago.” She told to you. “Can you go tell your CO directly so that I don’t have to go through appropriate channels?”“I can do that.”“And are you feeling better, you look bit better?”“Yeah, I feel better until next battle.”
>>897100Thanks to the speed of the suit, you were quickly at the CP. Disconnecting yourself, taking your bag and carefully climbing down, you approached and went inside the tent. You saw somebody new talking to the Major. Again with eyes of an eagle, Major waved you in and nodded towards the coffeemaker. Soon you had your mug filled with coffee as you listened him to talk some not interesting stuff.“Lieutenant, this is Unit 77. The Combat Armour pilot who has been working with us.” Major said to the Navy pilot sitting on a chair. The young man stood up and offered his hand.“Lieutenant Ishibashi of Confederate Navy” He said “Unit 77” You answered while shaking his hand.“It didn’t take long to hear about you. Apparently you have done a great job”“Maybe, duty is duty.” You said back. “Major, Operator King wanted me to tell you that rebels have taken their old missile systems into usage. According to her they should have been scrapped long time ago.”“Thanks for the heads up Unit 77. We are going to stay here for few days more until Lieutenant Ishibashi has managed to check the spacecraft. After they have been moved forward we will move to the front. I have not received any orders related to your deployment, but I have gotten a green light on your decoration. It is now official even though you don’t have the medal yet. Congratulations you deserve it.”“Thank you Major” You said.“Now all of you go. I have too much paperwork to do” Major drove you out of his office. “Can I see your Combat Armour?” Lieutenant Ishibashi said as both of you exited the tent. “I originally was supposed…” His sentence was cut off by bright light in horizon. “Wait what is that!” He shouted.“If I were you I wouldn’t look it.” You said as you turned towards the light.“Then how can you look at it!” He shouted as he turned away and prepared to run to cover.“Cybernetical eyes” You said. From what you had heard they were desperate, but you didn’t think them being that desperate. A nuclear device had activated. With that I am going to take a short break in this less action more talking session. I need to brew some tea and eat some food. Be right back.

Watching the mushroom cloud rise up for several seconds before you turned towards the command tent and started walking there. All around you people were running, they never had been in situation like this. Going inside the tent there was very tense atmosphere with officers trying to stay calm. At the end of the room there was Major Strong with stern face.“Nuclear device?”“Yes, approximately 15 kilometres to south. They hit our landing grounds. 100 to 250 kilotons.”“So our ground HQ is most likely destroyed, Navy brass is going to take the lead then down here then. I do not like that at all. No offense Lieutenant Ishibashi.” He said to him as he turned towards you.”Unit 77 I see that you have previous experience on nuclear weapons in field. There isn’t that many campaigns with them used lately. Horton or Methuselah?”“Horton.” You answered.“Not a nice place anymore. Can you give your expertise on what we should do, because in my 30 year career in marines I haven’t been in this.”“Get everybody in their NBC gear, take the Iodine pills and try to get inside NBC protected vehicles. Clean device is good. Standard procedures.”“You heard him, move on and go get my battalion back in order” Major commanded. “I will try to get contact to Command.”Walking the short distance to your suit, you started to see order. Men getting into their NBC gear and officers shouting at them. Climbing back to the cockpit and shutting the hatch you let the computer to do its magic. Automatically forming overpressure inside the cockpit should protect you from radioactive dust and if the rebels don’t activate new devices nearby the hull should protect from radiation itself. You knew you had to contact King, but it wouldn’t be easy thanks to the explosion.Give me 1d100, best of three for trying to contact Operator King.

Switching the settings around and tweaking the channels, you got CNS Agamemnon located and started to radiate towards her. Trying to catch King took you few tries but in few minutes she answered.“Are you alright down there?” She said distressed.“We are fine. Did the device detonate in primary landing site?” You asked her in quiet voice.“Yes it did. The fleet is trying to see if there is survivors, but Admiral Gordon-Keeble is currently in command. The whole situation is chaotic. Not everybody agrees with Gordon-Keeble, he is too hardline.”You knew that already. After all he was the man who ordered the campaign of Horton to commence.“We are trying to patch information together, but we really do not know what might happen next. There is rumours of rebels trying to force us to negotiation table so there might be cessation of hostilities.” She suggested.“No. Admiral Gordon-Keeble doesn’t negotiate” You said to her. “The rebels know that, he is next in line in command if Marshall Moore is dead. They want to go out with a bang.”“How do you know that?”“Horton was similar situation. I need to tell this to Major Strong now.” With that you cut the feed, took your bag and climbed out of the suit. Walking briskly to Major past officers and staff.“Admiral Gordon-Keeble is in command. Operator King told me.”“That is not a good sign. Not good sign at all. Templeton, double check all forces immediately. Everybody needs to be ready.”“Horton, again.” You said“You are right Unit 77. This really looks like Horton is going to happen again.” Major said.“What happened in Horton?” Asked Lieutenant Ishibashi who just arrived into the room.“Admiral Gordon-Keeble used nuclear weapons to decimate the Alliance Forces after they refused to to surrender and had put too stiff support. Admiral didn’t have enough men under his command to push forward, but he had to win. 39 million people died.”You saw Ishibashi face turn pale as Major told that.“Major, contact fleet through CNS Agamemnon. It works.” You said and excused yourself. As you went outside you saw something rising in the sky.“Oh no. No no no!” You said to yourself and started to run towards your suit. They just dared, fucking idiots dared to do that. Few others saw what you saw and just watched them as you ran through your pain and power climbed into the cockpit.“King, missiles, they are firing missiles at you!” You said into the receiver as you tried to get in contact with King.“We know, Agamemnon is taking evasive actions and is readying to intercept the missiles heading to us. Pray for us.” Kings voice came through. She was scared.“Stay safe”Shortly after that number of bright flashes lit the sky.
It took Major and you two hours to get back in contact with fleet. The nuclear devices managed disturb the communication devices and when you got in touch you were greeted by not familiar voice.“This is Rear Admiral Valve of CNS Agamemnon, I was told that you down there need information.”“Thank you for contacting us. We really need the information what happened up there.” Major Strong answered.“The situation is following.” Valve said in calm collected voice.”Nuclear missiles struck number of our ships. Two battleships and seven cruisers got destroyed. Agamemnon is fine, but rest of the fleet is still in disorder and the fool Gordon-Keeble wants us to nuke New Delaware as revenge. That does not suit for me at all, but he still has number of hardline officers around the surviving ships so there is a change that he will nuke rebel forces. So I will give you a choice Major. We can lend you a hand if you want to evacuate from the planet, before he dooms everybody down there.”“That would be a treason Rear Admiral.” Major Strong said back.“Oh I know. I know what I am doing.” Valve answered calmly.“I have no intentions to die at hands of madman, I will gather my men.” Major Strong said.“Good, dropships come to pick you up in waves in 30 minutes. Admiral Valve out.”With that the connection cut and the tent was full of silent officers who really don’t know what just happened, other than treason.Set the order you want to evacuate people. “We are going to evacuate civilians first. And then rear personnel with Soldiers in mix. Get everybody ready to board the dropships as fast you can. We most likely can’t fit everybody in one go, so multiple trips are needed. Off to work men.” Major said. “Lieutenant Ishibashi, get those space lifters working immediately. We need them. Unit 77 please go inform Superintendent, Templeton send him with someone who can guide them to right place.”“Understood”You left the tent with a marine tailing you closely as you made your way towards the terminal in brisk pace. It hurt like hell to walk this fast, but you had to. There really wasn’t that much time. Getting in and finding her was easy. All the civilians were hunkered in the basement of the terminal where they were held as hostages few days ago. Two marines that were ordered to stand guard nodded to you as you approached them.“Go get Superintendent now.” You said to one of them. He saluted and went downstairs and soon came back with Ouchi Yuuka. She looked even more stressed than two days ago.“You wanted to see me?”“Yes, get your people ready to move and follow this marine. He knows where to go.”“To go where, we are safe down here.” She asked. “Didn’t we just have nuclear explosion near us.”“There is going to be more. Now please get your people.” You said in soft voice.“Alright, alright. This cannot be happening, but I will believe you. Okay I will get the civilians and follow him.” She said before going downstairs to get them. You watched as she gathered them and started to guide them outside. There might not be many of them, but they will go first. Following them you were outside soon. There was already men gathering near the runway in their platoons and companies with piles of discarded backpacks and unnecessary equipment behind them. The command tent was emptied with paperwork burning in a barrel outside. Major Strong was next to it smoking a cigarette.“I see civilians getting ready. It is good for them to go first, but same time they have families down here that cannot be saved. Should it be us or them Unit 77?”“Them. We are soldiers.” You answered.“I agree, there is nothing else we can do. Civilians and other non-combatants go first then we soldiers. I would love to go in last wave, but Rear Admiral wants me to come in second wave.”You just watched the flame die in the barrel as last of the papers burn to crisp. First dropships arrived to lift the first wave of evacuates off planet as final paper burned.
>>898001They quickly boarded and the dropships left. You waited in the silence as one by one some of the space lifters and Shrike Attack Crafts were loaded with people and left for space. With second wave of dropships coming Major turned to you.“I think it is our time to go now, follow me.” He said.“I can come in last wave.” You said.“No, I have grown liking you. You come with me and that is an order.” Major said with stern voice.Seeing as there is no other choice you joined Major with other officers. Giving a last look at you trusty Combat Armour you boarded the dropship. Soon the dropship took off. You hoped that there would be enough time for few more trips to get rest of the marines evacuated. But you were wrong. You heard later that the rebels launched small salvo of missiles at the Confederate fleet and that lead to Admiral Gordon-Keeble to retaliate. Single Bacchante-class battleship carries 56 nuclear missiles with each of them carrying 45MT of nuclear weapons. The small rebel salvo was intercepted, but the nuclear missiles carried by Gordon-Keebles flagship hit to their targets. 8 million people died in a flash with 20 million dying due to radiation sickness. The dropship shook violently as nuclear devices activated around it. But then the shaking ended, you had escaped the atmosphere. You were alive. And that is where we end today. This session was lore heavy with quite little of stuff for you to do, but the plot must go forward. You have taken your feet off the ground giving you much more power to choose where to go. Don't worry, you will get into combat soon, but quest cannot be all the combat all the time.Next session will be tomorrow 4PM GMT+0.
