You are Fritz Hermann, Ace Tanker and Commander of the Panther II Werewolf. Currently, you have been rudely awoken by your girlfriend for failing to turn off your alarm in a timely fashion.

As you pick yourself up off the floor and glare at Yuzu who’s taken advantage of you being ejected from the bed to steal the rest of the blanket, you consider your trip. You’re sure that everyone would like to accompany you to the tank museum, but some will be more useful than others. There’s also the human aspect, given you’ve spent next to zero time with Yuzu (or any of the girls) alone and that’s probably something that needs to be rectified.

Who comes to the museum with you?

> Just one girl (Yuzu)

You decide to only take Yuzu with you. The two of have done nothing by your lonesome since the holiday began. An unacceptable failure on your part.

“Yuzu.” You poke the burrito on your bed. “Wanna come to the tank museum with me? Just the two of us?” She peaks out from the blankets.

“Just us?” She asks.

“Just us.” You echo, giving her a quick kiss. “Get ready, and let’s get moving.” She slowly untangles herself from the blankets and walks towards the bathroom. You follow her with your eyes as she does. When she disappears into the bathroom you head downstairs and start making breakfast. As you’re taking the bacon out of the pan a mass collides with your back.

“Fritz! Are you going somewhere!” It’s Erika, as expected. You carefully put down the bacon and turn to face her.

“I am Erika.” You reply. “I’m going to the Tank Museum with Yuzu.”

“Can I come!?” She asks. You shake your head and pat hers.

“We’ve not done anything just the two of us.” You explain. “So for today it’ll just be the two us.” Erika’s face is undecipherable for a moment.

“Fine! I’ll have fun with Maho!” She sprints over to a lethargic Maho who’s walking down the stairs. “Maho! Let’s have fun today!” Maho blinks twice before shrugging.

“Sure.” She replies, patting Erika on the head. With the Erika problem dealt with you continue making breakfast. Yuzu is soon downstairs, and the four of you eat before you and Yuzu pile into the car. As with before, it’s a long car journey but soon you’re at the tank museum.

It’s still pretty early in the morning, meaning there are not a lot of people around essentially giving the two of you free reign for now.

> Go say hello to the Curator

“Let me introduce you to the curator.” You say to Yuzu. You take her hand and walk into the museum. You walk into the reception and pause for a moment to say hello to the security guard. After that, you proceed through to the Curator’s office, pausing every so often to say hello to several employees you recognise. You find the Curator on the way to his office, inspecting an MBT-70 prototype.

“Director Raths.” You say. The man turns and smiles.

“Fritz! It’s been so long, how are you?” He asks as he strides forward. You let go of Yuzu’s hand and shake his.”

“I’m good Director, and you?” You ask.

“Never better!” He replies. “What brings you here today? And who’s this beautiful young lady?”

This is Yuzu Koyama.” You say switching to English for her benefit. Yuzu gives a small bow.

It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She says in accented English.

And it’s nice to meet you too young lady! Do keep an eye on Fritz for me! Poor kid doesn’t know how to take a break!” You make to protest, but Yuzu laughs and nods.

I will.” She promises. “We’re here to do some research given all the documents from the war are here.

I see.” He nods. “Well Fritz knows where the archive room is, so be my guest. The archivist should be able to help you further.

Thank you director.” You say. The two of you head to the archives. The archivist is there. The sourly man points you towards the section on tanks

> Research Werewolf (2)
> Research Grandfather’s tank (2)

“So, what are you looking for?” The archivist asks flatly.

“We’re looking for any information on the Panther II program and anything on the 103. Schwere SS Panzer Abteilung.” You explain. The Archivist hums and thinks for a moment.

“Shelf 53, Row 7, Box 2 for anything on experimental tanks like said Panther. For operational tank units try shelf 37, Row 14.” He says idly as he scrolls on his phone. You consider asking him for further help, but you don’t think you’d get any so the two of you set off.

“Shall we tackle my grandfather’s tank first?” You ask Yuzu. “The shelf is closer.”

“Sounds good to me.” The two of you walk in comfortable silence till you reach the shelf. Thanks to the archivist’s instructions, it’s easy to find said box, and with the help of a ladder, you’re able to reach the 14th row.

You end up with a system between yourself and Yuzu. She collects the box and dumps it next to you at a nearby table. You scan the contents till you determine whether it’s relevant and then hand it back to Yuzu if it’s not. On the 6th box, you hit gold.

“I’ve found it! The 103rd!” You call. She scurries over and looks at the documents over your shoulder. She can’t read the German, but she can help make sense of the numbers. The two of you crunch through it and eventually find what you’re looking for.

“Fritz! Look!” Yuzu pushes a sheet of paper in front of you. It’s the tank record for Panzer 732, your grandfather’s tank. Built September 1942, making it one of the oldest Tigers ever. It was assigned to your grandfather from the beginning and went with him when he was transferred to the 103rd to supplement the the Tiger IIs of the unit. Though not as successful as the Tiger IIs for obvious reasons it was the most successful Tiger, scoring almost 90 kills and not being knocked out once. Most importantly, you can see that after the war it was confiscated by the British and eventually sold to ‘Abel craft kopeks’ in Japan. A very curiously named company.

You note down the name for further investigation later once you get back to Japan. The two of you head to Shelf 53 in order to find information on the Panther II program. This time, you know the exact box you need. The two of you sort through schematics and documents for a little while until you spot something very familiar.

“Yuzu.” You get your girlfriend’s attention and she scots around the table till she’s right next to you. The two of you examine the document. At the top is a small blueprint you recognise as Werewolf. Below it is the records. Designed shortly after production of the Panther began, a prototype was built in 1944. The idea was eventually scrapped, and the prototype mothballed until the desperate defence in 1945 called for all available resources. According to the document, the tank fought on the western front successfully till the end of the war, at which point it was deemed missing in action. Most importantly, you see the nickname given to the tank by the crew.

> Jäger – The tank excelled at ambushes, crit fails when firing from stealth are ignored
> David – The tank regularly fought bigger, heavier tanks and won. Any tank fighting Werewolf is fighting that weighs more and has bigger dimensions suffers from Behemoth (+2 awareness and +2 mobility)
> Goliath – This tank regularly bitch-slapped groups of smaller tanks. Critfails against two or more lighter tanks are ignored
> Adler – This tank regularly fought from a higher elevation. Any hits on this tank while it is higher than the opponent hit the toughest armour face
> Schild – This tank regularly took punishment no other tank could. +1 HP for penetrations from the front

“Adler.” You say to Yuzu. “Adler – Eagle, that was Werewolf’s first name.”

“I see.” She says as she leans on your shoulder. “We did good today, didn’t we?”

“We did.” You reply, wrapping your arm around her. “You did too.” She preens at the praise, moving herself as close to you as possible. You sit like that for a little while in a comfortable silence, enjoying each other’s company. Yuzu breaks the silence.

“Could you show me around the museum?” She asks.

“Of course.” You nod your assent. “Let’s go.” You put the box back on the shelf and leave the archives. The two of you spend the rest of the day perusing the exhibits. You take plenty of pictures, both of yourselves in front of the tank and some without for Yukari. In particular, you show off:

> The Sturmtiger, that’s a big gun for you…

You take her to see the Sturmtiger, a fearsome heavy fire support vehicle. You even get a picture with her standing next to the 380mm rocket that it launches. It’s almost as tall as her…

After touring the museum, the two of you head back home. It’s a long journey, but judicious use of the autobahns mean that your able to make good time. As the sun begins to set, the two of you enter the house. You see Maho and your mother casually lounging in the living room/

“No Erika?” You ask as you take a seat.

“Out with her crew.” Your mother replies, flipping through the channels. You sit there for a moment before turning to the girls.

“Want to go drinking?” You ask.

“Are we allowed?” Maho replies idly.

“You’re allowed to drink beer.” Your mother answers. That seems to satisfy the girls.

“How about we get changed and go out then?” Yuzu suggests. No one objects, so the three of you head up, get changed and head out.

The three of you walk into town to the nearest pub. You take a seat at the bar, and the other two follow your lead.

“So, uh what do we do?” Yuzu asks, as her eyes dart around the room taking in the place. You follow her eyes. It’s an old place, lots of wooden furniture and nice rug on the floor. A pool table sits in the corner, opposite a jukebox which looks to be older than you.

“We drink.” You answer. “Three Weihenstephan Hefe Weissbier please.” You say to the bar keep. He nods, and after flashing your IDs, the three of you receive your beer.

“Refreshing.” Maho says, nodding in approval. You turn to Yuzu, who seems to share the sentiment if the way she’s knocking the beer back is any indication. You do the only sane thing and order another round.

Quite a few rounds later, and with a very pleasant buzz, the three of you make the journey home. You’re not drunk enough to manage to get lost in such familiar streets, but it takes a bit longer than usual to get home given the lot of you are more prone to distraction than usual. Once you enter the door, it all goes blurry.

Thursday 28th June (Day 82)

You wake up that morning very warm. You try to move but find yourself unable to do so. Blinking the sleep out of your eyes, you take stock of your surroundings. To your right as usual is Yuzu, fast asleep. What’s unusual is Maho to your left, using your left pec as a pillow.

> Do nothing. Enjoy it

You consider trying to escape for a moment but ultimately decide against it given it’s your bed and as far as you can see, you’ve done nothing wrong. You shuffle slightly to get your arms around both of them. Yuzu ends up nestled in the crook of your arm, and Maho’s position on top of you stays the same. With your arms in a more comfortable position you close your eyes and drift back to sleep.

You wake up again, several hours later to the sound of giggling. You crack open an eye and see Yuzu looking at you with a shit eating grin. At her continued laughs, you turn to look at Maho, still resting on your chest, who’s staring at you.

“Good morning Maho?” You offer waiting for the inevitable explosion.

“Good morning.” She offers back, very nonplussed. She sits up and stretches for a moment before turning back to you. “It seems Erika was correct in her assessment.” At your confused look she continues. “Erika told me that you make an excellent pillow. I find myself agreeing with her.”

“Uh, you’re welcome?” You say, slightly confused at her lack of reaction. Then again, it is Maho and she’s a bit of a strange one.

“You’re planning to fight Drücker today correct? Or have you decided to postpone till Saturday?” She ask.

“Today.” You answer. “But I have to find a tank first.”

“The Nishizumi school has several training facilities with tanks across Germany.” Maho offers. “I’m sure mother would let you borrow one, though that means she’ll probably get herself involved in whatever happens.”

You consider your options on where to get a tank.

“I’d appreciate it if you could ask.” You reply to Maho. The girl hums an affirmative as she stretches. You observe the stretches. For science. She continues for a minute before walking towards the door.

“I will contact mother shortly.” She says as she leaves. You look back at Yuzu who’s still grinning like a shark.

“What’s got you so happy?” You ask. She doesn’t elaborate and just leans forward to kiss you. You push your neck forward too, eagerly meeting her lips. You creep your hand up her stomach slowly, but she feels it and places your hand atop her left breast. You stay like that for a moment, before she breaks the kiss. “Why are you so happy?” You ask again. Her enigmatic smile remains.

“No reason.” She says. You don’t believe her for a second.

“Don’t tell me then.” You grumble. You take the initiative and roll out of bed and into the bathroom first.

“Hey!” You hear from outside, but it goes ignored as you step into the shower.

Two showers later, yourself and a pouty Yuzu go downstairs. Maho is already there, munching on a slice of toast. Yuzu wanders into the kitchen to grab something to eat, and you take a seat opposite Maho and begin dialling Summer. She answers and you put it on speaker. That turns out to be a mistake.

“Hey, Fritz! How’s my favourite little tank Commander?” Comes summers voice through the phone. Maho’s eyes immediately light up, and Yuzu in the kitchen bursts out laughing. You ignore the embarrassment and push on.

“I’m good thank you, aunt. I was wondering if I could borrow a tank.” You say.

“Of course, you can sweetheart.” She replies. “What do you need it for?”

“One of Niedersachsische’s tankers agreed to fight me today.” You explain.

“Well you can use my tank if you need, you’ve commanded it before, so it should be a breeze.” Summer replies. She’s offering her tank for use, Crescent Rose, a long barrel Panzer IV fitted with a smoke grenade launcher; superior Commander and Gunner’s sights; a turbocharger and carrying High-Velocity rounds.

“Thanks, aunt.” You reply. “I’ll get back to you shortly.”

“Talk to you then!” She replies cheerfully. You put the phone down and turn to Maho.

“What did your mother offer?” You ask.

“Mother offered a Tiger for your use,” Maho replies. “It’s an old one Black Forest has been restoring and has none of the bells nor whistles we usually fit our tanks with, but it’s still a Tiger. She also wishes you wear Black Forest uniform if you command it.”

> Take Summer’s pimped out Panzer IV

“We’ll take Summer’s Panzer IV.” You decide. “I’d prefer to have the extra equipment it comes with.”

“Fine by me.” Maho shrugs. “It’s a shame though.”

“Why?” You ask suspiciously.

“You’d look good in a skirt.” Yuzu laughs from the kitchen, and you get the sneaking suspicion they’re ganging up on you. It’s good to see them getting close, but not when you’re the butt of their jokes.

“Well, either way, we’re leaving soon.” You say, swiping one of Maho’s toast slices. “So, get ready.” You send a text to your crew to meet at Summer’s and quickly get an affirmative back. They’d been expecting the text since the visit to the university.

Yourself, the girls and your sister soon arrive at Summer’s. Outside her house is her tank loaded up on a tank transporter, with your crew already loaded up. You waste no time joining them, yourself and your entourage piling into the transporter.

“Everyone ready to go?” Summer asks from the driver’s seat. She gets no objects and the lot of you move off.

Several hours later you arrive at the Sigfried. The field is much the same as last time you were here, duelling Layla.

> Have a look around, try and find Drücker and let your crew get the tank ready

Your crew know the drill by now, you head off to find your opponent as they unload the tank from the transporter. It’s not hard to find Drücker. As he said at the university, he’s there in an official fashion, meaning the stall he’s sitting at is well signposted. You see him sitting behind it, bored out of his mind as a short redhead talks to the general public. When he sees you, Drücker perks up.

“That you, Hermann!? God, I was getting so bored.” He says, standing and approaching you.

“It is, I’m here for the match you promised.” You say.

“Fine by me.” He laughs. “God, these French are so boring, all this pomp and flash around one duel, we’d already be done by now if this were between German teams.”

“Indeed.” You reply. You’d fought your own fair share of French people and it’d been the same every single time. You share a look, two German tankers coming together in their mutual hatred of the French.

“Come, mount up!” He slaps your shoulder. “You want to fight my M36 right?”

“I do.”

“Good stuff.” He walks off. “Maddy! Let’s roll!” The redhead excuses herself from her conversation and follows Drücker.

You do the same, you walk back to your team, where Summer’s Panzer IV sits ready to go.

“We ready to go?” You ask Axel, who’s overseeing the start up. He nods, confirming everything is good to go. “Alright then, let’s get moving.”

You rumble forth to the starting point. The crowd is bigger than you expected, most there for the duel tomorrow but treating this as a teaser of what’s to come.

“We’ve been given the all-clear,” Leo tells you. You consider your options.

> Head straight forward towards the town (Purple)

“Full power forward, Max.” You say.

“On it.” He replies, he handles the tank with ease, having trained on the Panzer IV before you found Werewolf. The tank rumbles forth, Max expertly navigating the rough terrain. You pass the spot you’d used to snipe into the town in your duel against Layla and idly reflect on the parallels. Yourself in a German tank fighting someone in an American one.

“Stop here, Max.” You order as you get to the top of a small hill overlooking the town. You consider your options. You could skirt around the outskirts of the town to try appear somewhere the M36 wouldn’t expect, or get closer to try spot the M36. You could also take the middle road which might be able to get you a flanking shot if the buildings don’t block your view.

> Go through the middle (Orange)

“Take us through the middle of those buildings at F7, Max.” You say into your mic. Max obliges you, and your tank rumbles slowly into town. As you pass the edge of the building and enter the town’s centre, you take a look around. Nothing. You reckon you’re alone in the town, given that you can’t hear the M36 at all, not even while you were entering it. You look at the map again. The M36 could be pretty far by now if it started moving , but it’s options are limited. To the left is an open field, poor terrain for a Tank Destroyer and to the north-east, only one small hill of high ground to sit on, making it predictable where he might be.

“Head North.” You order, finally coming to a decision. Heading north puts you in a good position if he’s heading west, and a decent one if he’s straight north of you. Crescent Rose rumbles forth, Max easily manoeuvring through the wide streets. You soon break out of the city and into tank country, but still nothing. It’s enough to have you on edge.

“Axel, load HVAP.” You bark into the mic. You hear the thuds of the rounds being changed but ignore it and focus on scanning your surroundings. Nothing. You finger the trigger for the smoke grenades, unsure whether to trigger then or not.

You see a flash.

You immediately jump into action.

“Max! Rotate us 45 degrees clockwise! Ruby! Target 450 meters east-north-east.” The tank starts swinging around, but it seems it won’t be in time. You see the flash of the gun barrel…

And a puff of smoke. Nothing happens, no shell seems to fly. Drücker slowly starts to back away, but before he can, Ruby draws a bead.

“On the way!” She shouts. The round screams out the gun barrel. Slower and smaller than Werewolf true, but enough. You watch it spiral lazily through the air flying for almost five hundred meters before it reaches its target. You can hear the clang from your position, and when the dust clears, you can see a track that’s very clearly destroyed.

> Have Ruby kill it from where you are (Lance of Longinus)

You take stock of the situation. Drücker is immobilised on the hill, Ruby having destroyed his right track, and there’s no way they’ll be able to fix it given you’re watching them. His gun also seems to have misfired, given no shells have come back your way since you were spotted. However, Drücker hasn’t raised the white flag yet, meaning the match is still on. You decide to leave the resolution to Ruby.

“Ruby, would you like to do the honours?” You ask over the intercom.

“It’d be my pleasure.” She replies happily. The rest is a forgone conclusion, and you lean back against your cupola as Ruby carefully lines up the shot. With a roar, the 75-millimetre shell screams forward. It slams into the side of the tank destroyer, rocking it before the white flag pops out from a hatch in the front of the hull.

“I expected more from a university student,” Leo mutters.

“Well did you see that smoke when he fired? His gun’s screwed.” Max retorts. You ignore the nattering and give some more orders.

“Max take us over to them.” You say. You move forward and the tank slowly climbs the hill. Several minutes later you pull up next to Drücker who’s inspecting his gun barrel.

> “That....was some shit luck. I’d be happy to give you a rematch next time we’re back in Germany!”

“Ha!” Drücker lets out a single bark of laughter. “Indeed, it was. It’s ridiculous though! I trust Maddy to have adequately maintained the gun barrel, so I can only assume it was faulty ammunition. We quality check our rounds though as does the factory, so the chance of something like that is exceedingly small.” He sighs and shakes his head. “Regardless, I’ll gladly take you up on your offer. If you do end up at Niedersächsische I’m sure we will have the opportunity to do this again.”

“I’m looking forward to it.” You reply.

“As am I.” He says back. “Someone has to teach you about defeat.”

“A pity it won’t be you!” Ruby shouts from her hatch. Drücker laughs at that.

“Lots of spirit I see. Don’t lose that Miss Rose.” He says to Ruby. You see the tank transports arriving, both yours and his, to pick up the tanks. As yours slows to a stop, Erika jumps out and combat rolls to a stand.

“That was a wicked shot, Ruby!” She cheers as she runs over to the Panzer IV. Maho and Yuzu dismount more sensibly and walk over to you.

“That was a good match, Fritz!” Yuzu cheers.

“You performed adequately.” Maho offers which is high praise coming from her. You accept Yuzu’s kiss on the cheek then Maho asks another question. “So what are we going to do with the rest of the day, Fritz?” She asks.

“Werewolf participated in combat around here.” You explain. “So I want to do a little digging.”

“How are you going to do that?” Yuzu asks. “Another archive dive?”

> “Knowing what I do about Werewolf, I reckon the northern hills are my best bet.”

Yuzu sighs in relief at that. “A walk in the hills sounds pleasant compared to trawling through some musty old archives.”

“Agreed.” Maho intones.

“Hey, archives can be fun.” You say, slightly offended.

“That’s because you’re a History nerd darling.” Yuzu replies. “C’mon, we’re burning daylight!” She grabs your hand and drags you forth. You could probably stop her, but you can’t bring yourself to do it. You watch Erika leading your crew away from atop Axel’s shoulders as you're dragged further into the hills.

Admittedly, it is a pretty good walk. The three of you stroll through the hills, chatting amicably as you scan the ground. Occasionally, you’ll see signs if the battle that took place, a shell crater here or a massive fallen tree there but its intermingled with newer damage, making it hard to decide where to look. After about an hour of searching, you’re about ready to give up.

“Halt!” Maho calls, raising a fist. You follow her gaze and see a something metallic sticking out of the ground. “Fritz, Yuzu, assist me.” The three if you walk over and pull. It takes a couple of tries, but you manage to get it free.

“A mess tin?” You ask rhetorically as you inspect it. It’s a bit battered, but in good condition for having been in the ground for 70 years. You give it a shake, and hear something rattling about inside.

“This is a good find, Maho.” You say. Maho waves you off and stands, dusting down her skirt. “Let’s keep looking.” You say as Yuzu grabs your hand. “If we don’t find anything in an h-“ You’re interrupted as you trip over something, taking Yuzu down with you.

“Oof!” You groan as Yuzu lands on top of you. Unfortunately, it’s not even in a fun way, her having kneed you in the stomach as you fall.

“You found something,” Maho says, drily. You ignore the pain in your stomach and look at Maho, who’s uncovered the object you tripped on. It’s a tank shell.

“That look eighty-eight millimetre to you?” You ask as you examine it. It looks very similar to the ones you use in Werewolf, but you can’t tell for sure.

“It does,” Maho confirms. “Though I could not tell you what tank it’s for.”

“Let’s not screw with something that might break.” You say, as you carefully take the mess tin from Maho. “We’re not far from Münster here, so hopefully they can send someone over to collect it.”

“Sounds smart.” Yuzu chips in. “What about the tank shell?”

“That’s going to be a souvenir.” You say as you pick it up. You place the two of them next to each other on the floor and snap a picture. You quickly send it to Yukari and the History club. Not a minute later, you get a call from Yukari.

“Hi, Fritz!” Yukari says very quickly. “Have you moved that eighty-eight-millimetre shell!?”

“I have.” You answer. You hear a whine from the other side.

“Fritz, could you check the bottom of the shell? Is it crumpled?” She asks, not giving an explanation. You check and see it is indeed crumpled.

“It is Yukari.” You reply. “You going to tell me why this is important?”

“Because that means the fuse has been removed!” She says as she sighs in relief. “That means the round isn’t live!”

“Oh, so I was handling 70-year-old explosives?” You ask, slightly lightheaded.

“Yup!” Yukari giggles. “But it won’t go off.”

“Oh, thank god.” You say as you collapse next to Yuzu. You’d rather not end your career in an explosion here.

“Are you going to bring it back?” She asks?

“Obviously.” You reply. She squeals on the other side of the phone.

“Great! I can’t wait, see you when you get here!” She says.

“See you soon, Yukari.” You reply as you kill the call. You look at the girls. “We have the rest of the day to go into town, would you like to?”

“Sure!”

“Let’s head back to town.” You suggest. The girls voice no dissent, and three of you walk back, your new loot in tow. As you walk, you call Director Raths.

“Hello Commander Hermann, how can I help you this fine afternoon?” Director Raths asks.

“Hi Director, I just had a match on the field by the Siegfried line.” You say. “I went on a walk afterwards and found an old mess tin.”

“How interesting!” He replies. “I assume there’s something special about this mess tin to make you call me?”

“It’s sealed shut, and we think whatever’s inside it might be related to Werewolf in some way. We found a tank shell that could be fired by Werewolf as well.” You explain.

“You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.” You can hear it in his voice too. “We have a small office in the area, drop it off and we’ll have a look tomorrow. We’d also love to take that tank round off you to study. We’d even pay you a finder’s fee.”

“I don’t mind lending it to you guys, but I’d prefer to keep it honestly.” You say.

“A shame, but I’d do the same thing.” Director Raths laughs. “Hand them both to the office, and we’ll get the shell back to you before we leave. We don’t know how long it’ll take to study the mess tin but we’ll keep you updated. Does that sound good?”

“Sounds good to me Director.” You answer. “I’ll drop them at the office now.”

“Good show Fritz, have a good rest of the day.”

“I will.” The director hangs up, and you put the phone away. It’s not hard to find Münster’s office in the town, and you quickly drop off the goods. The clerk seems to have been informed, as he doesn’t question it and puts them carefully in a box. With that delivered, the three of you look for your companions. They’re not hard to find. All of them are at a buffet.

“Hey, guys! How was your date!” Erika calls out from next to Axel. The rest of your crew snickers, and Max fist-bumps her.

“We went digging and found an eighty-eight-millimetre shell.” You say, ignoring the ‘date’ part. “We sent it to Münster.”

“Wah! That’s so cool!” Erika exclaims. “I want a real shell!”

“Too bad.” You say as you walk over and flick her on the forehead. She squawks and swings back, but you manage to duck her, very dangerous, hook and take a seat next to Summer.

“Fritz, how are you doing? Are you hungry? I’ll go pay for you.” She says as you sit.

“I’m good thank you.” You say as you sit next to her. “Thanks for lending me your tank.”

You decide to take advantage of the buffet. “Thanks, Aunt.” She waves off your thanks. Taking your plate, you walk to the counters full of food. It’s Chinese food which is fine with you. You pile your plate high with noodles and several racks of sticky barbeque pork ribs and stacks of shredded duck. When you return to the table, most of your crew and companions are also seated, and all of them sans Axel have less on their plate than you.

“That’s a lot of food Fritz, are you going to be able to eat it?” Yuzu asks from opposite you. Maho next to her also eyes your plate cautiously.

“Well I will, or I’ll die trying.” You answer sagely. Yuzu doesn’t look convinced. “I’ll show you.” You promise.

“Just don’t throw up. Again.” She asks as she rubs your hand.

You manage to eat everything on your plate, as well as go back for seconds. When you leave for the tank transporter, you feel slightly bloated but otherwise no worse for wear. Several hours later, you arrive home. You waste no time getting into bed, dragging yourself and Yuzu up to your room. She voices no objection, and you promptly change and hop into bed. Thankfully, no one else joins you in bed this time and the two of you are able to drift off to sleep.

Friday 29th June (Day 83)

> Try to get Instructor Nishizumi on board

You wake up late that morning, you have nothing pressing left to do this half-term, so allow yourself to sleep in. As you wake up, you find yourself next to Yuzu as normal. You take a moment to enjoy the close proximity before you quietly slip out of bed. You check the time. It’s early in the morning in Japan, but not unreasonably so to call for business. You take a deep breath and dial Instructor Nishizumi. It rings once before she picks up.

“Commander Hermann.” She says.

“Instructor Nishizumi.” You reply.

“You’re calling early in the morning.” She says.

“I have a favour I need to ask.” You say. She says nothing, so you take that as an invitation to continue. “As you know, Ōoarai’s scheduled for closure. I’d like to enlist your help.”

“I won’t save Ōoarai for you Commander, I don’t have that power.” She warns.

“I know, we’ve secured a meeting with the Sensha-Dō Federation’s director to expose a falsehood behind the closure.” You explain.

“How interesting.” She replies. “And you’d like my help.”

“Whatever you’re willing to give.” You reply. She’s silent for a moment.

“I will talk to the director and try to sway him in your favour after your conversation. I will also ensure that any promises made will be kept.” She decides.

“And your terms?” You ask.

“Either you or your sister fights alongside Black Forest in the semi-finals. It’s after your match with Pravda so there will be no schedule interference.” She says.

> Erika would jump at the chance (Play the match as Erika)

“Would you mind if I ran it by the Student Council President?” You ask. “I’d gladly come fight for you, but this involved them too.”

Shiho scoffs. “Do as you will, but hurry. My patience is short and I’m a busy woman.”

“I’ll be just a moment.” You promise. You put her on hold, and call the President. It rings for a whole thirty seconds before she picks up.

“Fritz?” She yawns. “Waddya need?”

“Hello to you too Prez, Instructor Nishizumi offered to talk to the director for us after we do and to make sure any promise is kept.” You say, launching into the explanation. She takes a moment to take that all in.

“Sure.” You can hear the shrug on the other side of the screen. “What’s she asking?”

“That my sister or I join Black Forest in their semi-final match.” You reply.

“Then go for it, we lose nothing.” She answers as she yawns. “Is that all?”

“Ye-“

“Check the shops when you can, I want a helicopter.”

“Wh-“

“Goodnight Fritz.” You stare at the phone, slightly confused for a moment. You snap out of it when you realise that Instructor Nishizumi is still on hold.

“Well?” She asks impatiently as soon as you open the call again.

“We’ll do it.” You answer. “Erika or I will fight alongside you in the finals.”

“Then I will assist you in turn.” She replies. “Inform me after your conversation with the director, and I will fulfil my promise.”

“I appreciate this, Instructor.” You thank her. She scoffs once again.

“This is business Hermann, do not thank me.” She pauses. “Though I must thank you for looking after my daughter.”

“She’s a big girl, she can look after herself.” You reply. “But you’re welcome.”

“A mother still worries.” She says it softly, for a moment it’s Shiho the mother at the wheel, not Shiho the head of the Nishizumi school but it’s gone a second later.

“Goodbye, Hermann.”

“Bye Instructor.” With that, you end the call. It went better than you expected honestly and you think Shiho’s help will be useful.

> Talk to Miho about Bokos

You walk out of your father’s office, and into the living room. Yuzu is sitting there with a bowl of cereal, just watching the television. You idly note that it’s in German, with English subtitles and not one of the English channels. You take a seat next to Yuzu and check the time. It’s still pretty early in the morning. You could text Miho now, or wait a little while and check what’s being sold.

Ōoarai has 7 Credits remaining.

You decide on a Huey. It’s pretty cheap compared to the other helicopters on the list and so are its mission packages. Ōoarai’s budget is also pretty limited, so you reckon it’s a good fit. You send the recommendation to the President for her approval and turn to your girlfriend.

“Say, Yuzu. Do you know why the President wants a helicopter?” You ask. If Yuzu is surprised then she doesn’t show it, humming for a moment before answering.

“Well they’re pretty useful for moving people around quickly, I reckon you could also watch practice from them which might help.” She says. “Did you buy any extras?”

“A Search and Rescue package and a Cargo package.” You answer. Yuzu nods her head.

“Search and Rescue is important on a carrier. Last year we almost lost a girl who went overboard. It might also be because there’s a helipad right next to the Student Council office.” She giggles.

“So, it’s going to be an over-glorified bus for her to get around the school?” You ask, eye twitching slightly.

“Think of it more as being chauffeured than it being a bus,” Yuzu says very unhelpfully. At least it’ll be useful in other things.

Enough time has passed that it’s a more reasonable time in Japan. You send a quick ‘hello’ text to Miho and promptly get one back. You spend the next hour or so just relaxing on the sofa, alternating between texting Miho and talking to whichever one of the girls happened to be in the room at the time. She seemed a bit surprised at your sudden interest in Bokos but proved a great help and by the time you’re done, you feel more well-versed on the subject of beaten-up bears.

“Fritz I need to get up, darling.” You look up from your position on Yuzu’s lap. Her face is obscured by her sloped armour, so you slide further onto her legs until you can see her.

“Going somewhere?” You ask.

“Out with your sister.” She replies. You reluctantly sit up and surrender your lap pillow. “She invited Maho, Ruby, the girls from her crew and I into town.” She says as she stands.

“Don’t let her drag you into the arcade.” You warn. Yuzu smirks at that.

“Sure.” She disregards your warning. You shake your head at her foolishness.

The girls leave shortly afterwards, and you’re soon joined by your mother. She takes a seat next to you then, uncharacteristically, turns so she’s relaxing on the sofa with her legs going over yours.

“So, Fritz, tell me more about this Yuzu girl.” She says. “What’s she like besides what I’ve seen of her here. Hobbies? Any wedding bells in the future? I want at least nine grandkids you know.”

Ah. The girlfriend talk. Frankly, you expected it to happen soon.

> Talk about Yuzu’s tough job on the student council keeping the place running
> “Probably not till after university.” + “Mother it’s been maybe two months, relax.”
> “You’ll probably have to split that between myself and Erika…”

You stare flatly at your mother. She stares back. You stay like that for a good five minutes, but compared to your mother, you’re an amateur at looking dead inside.

“Ok, I’ll talk.” You sigh. “Yuzu’s pretty great, she’s the Vice-President, and basically keeps the place running. The President is great, but she’s pretty useless if it’s not a life or death issue.”

“And Yuzu’s the one that does the daily work?” Your mother asks.

“That’s right.” You nod. “She’s a paperwork machine. Without her, I think the school would fall to pieces.”

“And you made sure to help her with this paperwork yes?” You mother asks. Her face promises pain if you say no.

“I have.” You answer truthfully. “I help with the Tankery papers whenever I can.”

“That’s the little gentleman I raised.” She coos. It’s weird because it’s delivered flatly but you can hear the praise and gentle ribbing behind it. You chalk it up to your mother just being a little weird.

“I don’t see myself getting married till after university.” You continue, eyeing her cautiously. “Besides Mother it’s been maybe two months, relax.”

“Your father and I got married after a week and it turned out okay.” She says ignoring the shock on your face. “But I suppose that’s a smart choice, just hurry up and give me grandkids to spoil rotten.”

“You’ll probably have to split that between myself and Erika…” You say recalling her wish for nine grandkids.

“Well you’re first, so I’ll be expecting them soon.” She says. You think she’s teasing you, but as ever she hides her intentions well.

“Very well. She was nice when I talked to her alone and since you have nothing but good news to tell me I’ll leave the topic for now.” She lifts her legs off you and sits normally for a moment. You get a small peck on the cheek before she stands and walks off. “And if you ever need anything, Fritz.” She says over her shoulder. “Let us know.”

“I will.” You promise. That seems to be enough for her, as she stalks off, no doubt to bother your father. The girls return in the evening several hours later, Yuzu uses your lap as a pillow this time, instantly collapsing onto you as she walks into the living room. Maho is little better, taking the largest armchair she can and just sitting there, trying to recover. Erika skips past happily.

“Did you take them to the arcade?” You ask.

“Yup!” She replies without missing a beat. You don't feel a shred of sympathy, you warned them.

It takes about half an hour for the girls to recover. In that time, you seek out your sister to ask her whether she’d like to join Black Forest for the semi-finals. You find her in the kitchen, humming to herself as she makes a sandwich.

“Hi Fritz!” She chirps as you enter the kitchen. “How’d your talk with mum go!?”

“How do you know we talked about anything?” You counter.

“Because she asked me to distract the girls!” Erika shoots back.

“Ah.” You say. That makes sense. It sounds like something she’d do.

“It went well, but that’s not the point.” You say. “I made a deal with instructor Nishizumi. She’s going to help Ōoarai out if one of us joins Black Forest for the semi-finals.”

“So you get to fight alongside Maho?” Erika asks. “I’m jealous!”

“Well do you want to do it?” You offer. She pauses, sandwich halfway to her mouth.

“You mean it?” She asks.

“Sure.” You shrug. “I don’t mind either way.”

“Oh yeah, I’d love to!” She chucks the sandwich onto the plate and runs into the living room. “Maho! Guess what!”

You chuckle as you listen to Erika recounting what you told her to a surprised Maho.

Saturday 30th June (Day 84)

You sleep well that evening, Erika electing to join you again for some reason. You don’t question it, and Yuzu doesn’t complain so you don’t make a big deal of it. Once more, you wake early on Saturday to get the jump on the tasks you have to do today. As you stir, your limpet takes notice.

“Where do you think you’re going!?” Erika whisper-shouts. “It’s five in the morning!”

“I want to visit the all-stars before we leave, see what they’re about.” You explain. You can feel Erika shaking her head into your back.

“Noooo.” She draws out the ‘no’ dramatically as she hugs your back even tighter. “Don’t be a nerd Fritz! It’s our last full day in Germany! Let’s do something!”

“Like what?” You ask.

“Like sightseeing! Or a day in the park! Or we can go drin-“

“You’re not allowed to drink with us Erika.” You cut her off before she can complete the sentence.

> “You have a point though.” Give in and take the day off.

“I knew you would come around to my way of thinking!” She whispers excitedly. “Now go back to sleep! I’ve planned the whole day and you’ll need your strength!”

“Sure, Erika.” You mutter resigning yourself to enjoying the day. You turn over towards Yuzu as Erika settles in against your back again. Yuzu’s awake and smiling at you.

‘What?’ You mouth to her. She just smiles and makes a whip-cracking motion. You take the high, adult road and stick your tongue out at her.

Several hours later, you wake up for real. Erika rolls out of bed and runs to her room with far more energy than you’ve ever seen her have in the morning. You and Yuzu get ready, and you’re greeted downstairs by an already dressed Maho munching on an apple.

“Good morning Maho.” You say as you take some pineapple slices from the fridge. “Ready for Erika’s excursion?”

“I have been ready since she barged into my room this morning to tell me.” Maho replies. “It’ll be nice to spend another day out on the town.”

“Well, it won’t disappoint! That I guarantee!” Erika shouts from the top of the stairs. You watch with mild alarm as she jumps from the top of the staircase. She combat rolls as she hits the carpet at the bottom and stands with a flourish. “Today we’ll go to the Marienplatz and the Frauenkirche in the morning! No one can visit Bavaria without seeing those!”

“And then?” You ask.

“We go to the English Garden to eat the lunch we buy from the plaza! Does that sound good!?” Erika says as she bounces on her feet.

> “Sure, lead the way Commander.”

“You’re damn right I will!” Erika harrumphs. “Have breakfast and let’s get moving!” That’s what you were doing anyway, so you continue to do so. After you’ve finished your pineapple chunks with some unwanted help from Yuzu, you’re ready to go. Maho’s similarly finished her breakfast, and Erika was too excited to do so.

The four of you catch the bus into town, after breakfast and follow a very enthusiastic Erika who’s trying her hand at map reading.

“Would you like me to have a crack at it?” You ask your sister.

“No!” She replies. “A tank commander should know how to read a map!”

“If you say so.” You say, leaving the issue alone. It takes a bit longer than it should have, but eventually, you find your way to the church.

“We made it!” Erika cheers.

“Good job Erika.” Maho smiles and pats her head. She takes a look at the church. “It’s certainly worth a visit.” You follow her gaze, to the church. It’s the tallest building in the area and pretty impressive to boot.

“Fritz! Let’s take a picture!” You shake yourself out of your thoughts and look to the speaker. It’s Yuzu, with her phone out. “Our first proper holiday together!”

“Sure.” You resign yourself to the female tradition of taking too many pictures. You take several – One with each of the girls, and one with all together taken by a helpful passer-by. With the pictures taken, you head for the nearby Marienplatz. It’s chockful of different stalls all vending food.

“Pick up what you want for lunch! We’ll eat at the English Garden!” Erika informs you.

“How far away is that?” Maho inquires.

“A ten-minute walk.” Erika answers. You look around the stalls, there’s a lot of different options. Most are German, but you see some foreign food too.

“What are you going to get?” Yuzu asks pulling you out of your musings.

“I’m just considering that now.” You reply as you watch Maho walk towards one of the stalls.

“What about Döner kebab?” You offer, gesturing towards the relevant stand.

“What’s that?” She asks. You point to the stall in question.

“Meat wrapped in bread.” You say simply. “Tastes pretty good.” She doesn’t look too enthused about that description.

“How about you get something else, and you can try some of mine?” You offer.

“That sounds good.” She says. “Meet you back here when you’re done?”

“Sure.” You reply. You head to the stall and acquire your massive mixed döner kebab. AS you head back to the meeting point, you spot a beer stall. Several actually, but this one stands out given instead of the usual canned shit it has freshly made bottled beer. You approach the elderly gentleman running the stall.

“Excuse me, sir, could you tell me more about that beer?” You ask, pointing to the crystal-clear bottles on display.

“Of course, young man! It’s Erdinger Kristall! You have good taste to pick it from among the others.” He replies with a genial smile. You examine the bottle for a moment.

“I’ll take a pack.” You decide. The man rings you up, and you carry the six-pack to the centre of the plaza where the others are.

“Finally!” Erika drawls as you arrive. “You took ages, Fritz!”

“I took two minutes more than you.” You shoot back.

“Well, you’re here now so let’s get going!” She turns in what is probably a random direction and marches off.

Twenty minutes and no doubt several wrong turns later the four of you arrive at the English Gardens. It’s pretty impressive. The largest public park in Munich. Named the English Gardens as it was designed by an Englishman who based it on a traditional English park. You don’t mind either way, but it makes for a good picnic place which is most important.

Erika lays out a picnic mat, and the four of you pull your food out. The minute you pull out the beer, you see Erika’s eyes zero on it.

“Fritz.” She says.

> “You can have a sip of mine.” She just wants to be part of the big girls

“Half a bottle!” Erika counters.

“A sip.” You reply.

“A quarter!”

“A sip.”

“Three-eighths!”

“Two sips.”

“Deal!” Erika holds out her hand which you promptly shake. You hand Maho and Yuzu bottles and pull out one for yourself.

“Take a bite.” You say, offering your kebab to Yuzu. She leans over and does so. She chews for a moment.

“This is pretty good!” She cheers. Before giving you the eyes.

“I’m not sharing.” You warn. She continues and your defences crumble.

“Half for half.” You compromise.

“Deal!” She says sweetly. Instead of a handshake, you get a kiss on the cheek which you’re fine with.

It’s nice. Just yourself, some close friends and your sister enjoying food together. You keep an eye on Erika handling your bottle, but she behaves herself, taking small sips between the larger ones you take.

Once you finish your döner and the half of Yuzu’s Sauerkraut you find yourself roped into a game of frisbee with your sister. It evolves into all four of you playing, just throwing it between the four of you.

The game ends with you catching a frisbee in the forehead from Maho. It stings like a bitch, but it gets you a Maho lap pillow. It’s certainly comfortable, but you’re unsure how it compares to a Yuzu lap pillow. Either way, it’s top tier.

“You alright Fritz?” Erika asks, hovering over you.

“I’ll live.” You groan. “Who thought a frisbee would do the mighty Commander Hermann in?” Maho snorts at that.

“Well since you got hit, you can pick what we do next.” Erika continues. “We could go see Old Peter’s church, or we could go relax by the water. Or anything else you can think of!”

>Go see Nymphenburg Palace

You are many things. A tanker, a brother, a decent tactician and possibly concussed. Lazy is not one of those things.

“How about instead of another church we go to see Nymphenburg Palace?” You offer. “Maho’s lap is nice, but I’d prefer to be on my feet – no offence Maho.”

“None taken.” She replies.

“Why didn’t I think of that!?” Erika cheers. “Let’s go to Nymphenburg, get up Fritz!” She gives you a ‘light’ kick to your ribs. You groan and roll off Maho’s lap, but don’t make a big deal of it and stand up.

“Are you going to be able to lead us there?” You ask Erika who’s examining the map.

“Yes.” She replies far too quickly. She examines the map for a moment before pointing to a bus stop. “Let’s get going!”

Surprisingly, you make it there in pretty good time though that may just be due to the bus doing most of the work for Erika. You arrive at the Palace, and it’s big. In particular, you note the very well cared for gardens in front of it. You look to Maho who nods. Perfect for Sensha-Dō.

“This Palace used to be a favourite of the Bavarian royal family,” Erika explains. “It started as a summer retreat, just the building in the middle and its owners kept building it up for the next two hundred years!

“That’s some impressive knowledge Erika,” Yuzu says. “How’d you know all that?”

“I read the Wikipedia page on the way here.” She replies. You spend a good couple hours touring the massive palace. Unfortunately, pictures are forbidden inside, but that doesn’t stop you from taking a few outside. You’re not usually one to take pictures, but you reckon the occasion warrants it, especially since it’s unlikely Maho will ever visit again.

Your excursion ends with the trip to Nymphenburg and the four of you hop onto the bus home. It’s not a long journey, and you’re soon home.

“Have a nice day out kiddos?” Your dad asks as you enter the house.

“Yeah! We did!” Erika chirps, running over to your dad to talk his ear off. You just collapse at the dining table.

“Did you have fun today, Fritz?” You mother asks, appearing from the kitchen with a tray of sandwiches.

“I did.” You reply as you take one.

“That’s good.” She replies with a small smile. “It’s important to take a break every now and then.”

The rest of the day passes quickly, and you soon find yourself in bed, idly watching as Yuzu packs her stuff. Not long later, she turns off the lights and slips in beside you.

> Chill with your parents

You sit up in bed and idly stroke Yuzu’s hair. She’s still asleep, but unfortunately facing away from you making any milk acquisition a risky prospect. You decide not to risk it, and instead settle for a quick squeeze. Which is glorious in and of itself. You don’t bother changing and head downstairs. You make some toast, then head to the garden where your parents are sitting at a small table. Your father sits at the head of the table, idly sipping from his cup as he reads the newspaper. Your mother is similarly nursing a cup of coffee though she’s just staring off into the garden.

“Something interesting Mother?” You ask as you take a seat. She turns slightly, acknowledging your presence, but otherwise not replying.

“That’s your mom’s way of saying no but she doesn’t want to admit it.” Your father jokes, earning him a small glare from your mother. “See, I’m right.” He snickers pointing out your Mother’s reaction.

“You’re headed back to Japan this evening correct?” Your Mother says, ignoring your father still grinning like an idiot.

“I am.” You reply.

“Look after your sister and the girls.” She says. “I’ve grown fond of the two of them while they’ve been here.”

“You have feelings?” You ask in mock surprise. That earns a laugh and a pat on the back from your dad.

“You are so much like your father.” She mutters, rubbing the bridge of her nose with her fingers. “Regardless, try not to be too much of a wet towel when it comes to your sister. I love that the two of you get along so well, but please try saying no to her.”

“I’ll try.” You reply. “But she might not even come to Ōoarai.”

“I doubt that.” Mama Hermann replies. “She’s been going on about you and Ōoarai and ‘Miho’ for a while. I don’t think there’s much competition.”

“I see.” You say, considering having your sister at Ōoarai. “At least that’s another competent tanker on board.”

“Either way, try to stop her from beating up defenceless schoolgirls again.” She says. You inwardly cringe.

“You know about that?” You ask. “How’d you find out?”

“Koume told me when I last talked to her.” Your mother responds. “I’m not angry, but I’d rather not have to get you or your sister out of a Japanese prison.”

“I’ll try to keep her on a tighter leash.” You promise. That seems to satisfy her as she leans back in her chair.

“Good.” Your father pats you on the back. “Now go have fun with your friends. Us old farts will still be here when you’re done.” As you walk back inside, you see Erika lugging a suitcase down the stairs.

“Fritz!” Erika calls as she sees you. “Guess where I and my crew decided to go!”

I'm glad you do. Erika is intended as a deuteragonist, and potentially even the protagonist depending on where Fritz's post-Ōoarai career goes. That'd be hard to do if you guys didn't like her.

> “Ōoarai?”

“Ōoarai?” You ask. You take no small amount of delight in the way her face drops for a moment before she puts a cocky smile back on.

“Wrong!” She chirps. “I’m going to Black Forest!” You raise an eyebrow at her.

“Really?” You ask.

“Really!” Erika insists. You hold that position for almost a minute before Erika slumps in defeat. “How did you know!?” She asks.

“I’m just that cool.” You laugh as you move your hand in for a headpat. She expertly slips the hand.

“About as cool as a volcano.” She fires back. “Well whatever, Yuzu and Maporin are almost done packing, then we can head to the airport.”

“Maporin?” You ask. “You seem to be getting along well with Maho.”

“She’s cool, cooler than you!” Erika explains.

“Then why did you choose to go to Ōoarai?” You ask. Your banter is interrupted by the arrival of said girls with their bags in tow, as well as your father.

“Right then, ladies, Fritz. Let’s get moving, shall we?” He asks. You take Maho and Yuzu’s bags and your dad takes Erika’s and you load them, and yourself into the car.

A short trip later, you find yourself at Munich airport. While not as fast as the Japanese terminals, the German ones certainly give them a run for their money. Your journey is slowed slightly by a small scare caused by the tank shell in your bag. Apparently, it arrived yesterday evening and your mother neglected to inform you and put it straight in your bag. However, after a brief explanation, you manage to get yourself and the shell through and onto the other side though the sniffer dog keeps eyeing you suspiciously...

The four of you are soon through customs and find yourselves in the duty-free section of the terminal.

As of right now as she picked? Maybe like a 5%

It started with her purely in favour of going to Black Forest, but stuff like putting up with her invading your bed and the freedom of Ōoarai’s tankery tipped her towards you.

I think that the sleepover was what tipped it towards Ōoarai.

Funnily enough, inviting Maho to yours actual made it more likely she’d go Black Forest but not enough to bother with a roll on it.

> Try to find your and Erika’s crew

“Let’s find out crews.” You decide the second you get through.

“Agreed,” Erika replies. She knows just as well as you what happens when they’re left unsupervised. You text Axel and Erika texts Pyrrha, the two most responsible members of your crew and they reply a moment later. Your crews have found each other and are at a nearby Starbucks. You and your companions set off, and you soon find yourself in the company of your crew once again. Thankfully, it seems you arrived before they got bored, meaning they had no chance to do anything stupid.

You spend the next half an hour or so just killing time in the small coffee shop. You make sure to keep an eye on Max and Leo who are trying to goad Erika’s driver Jaune into playing the knife game. Thankfully between your own presence and Erika’s you manage to keep Jaune from crippling himself though it’s a close-run thing.

Before they have a chance to attempt to cripple him in any other way, the boarding call for your flight goes off. Jaune takes the opportunity to escape your driver and radioman, and the twelve of you head off to board the plane.

There are not too many people boarding the plane, and when you get on board the plane itself is also pretty empty. You ask the flight attendant who shrugs and says you’re free to sit wherever as long as you stay in economy.

> Just take a seat and let them decide

You don’t make a fuss about the seating arrangements. The only special consideration is sitting behind Max and Leo to ensure they don’t get up to anything.

You end up with Maho on one side and Ruby on the other. Ahead of you are the rest of your crew and Erika’s and behind you, you can hear Erika and Yuzu talked in hushed tones. The plane is soon taxiing to the runway and you’re off, headed back to Japan, Ōoarai and Werewolf. You put on your travel pillow, settle in for a long flight and recline your seat as far back as you can.

The flight is uneventful, you spend most of it asleep, alternating as a pillow for both Maho and Ruby. You also discreetly let Otto out of his cage. Max and Leo even behave themselves, though you’re sure that’s more because of a watchful flight attendant than any restraint on their part. Twelve hours later, you arrive in Tokyo. That’s also where you and Maho part ways.

“Maporin! I’m gonna miss you!” Erika cries as she tackle hugs Maho. Maho takes it as only an older sister could, expertly spinning Erika to bleed the momentum.

“You’re far too tall to be tackle hugging people,” Maho mutters, but she accepts the hug anyway. She disengages from Erika and turns to you.

“Thank you for hosting me, Fritz.” She says with a small bow.

“Not accepted. Thank me properly.” You reply. She looks confused until you hold your arms open.

“It’s easy to see you two are siblings.” She mutters again but she accepts the embrace with a small smile. “Next time we see each other it may be on the battlefield.” She warns

“Then we won’t hurt you too badly!” Erika chips in. You can’t help but laugh at that.

The flight to Ibaraki is short, as is the bus to the port. Ōoarai is at sea, meaning another trip on the ferry. You can’t help but recall your first time taking it to Ōoarai and how far things have come since then.

It’s evening in Ōoarai, but you don’t feel very tired.

> Check out the Sensha-Dō club’s new helicopter

There are lots of important things you could be doing. Sorting out accommodation for Erika. Showing Werewolf the tank shell. Saying hello to some of your friends. But the coolest thing you could be doing is checking on the new helicopter Ōoarai is now the proud owner of.

“I’m going to check out our helicopter, anyone want to come?” You ask.

“You have a helicopter!” Erika exclaims. “I want to see it!”

“I’d love to, but I have to go see my sister,” Yuzu says.

“Will I see you tomorrow?” You ask.

“You will.” She reassures you. You get a quick peck, and she takes her leave. The rest of your crew and Erika’s also excuse themselves, leaving just you, Erika and Otto.

You let Otto out of his cage, which the cat happily accepts. He immediately takes off, running in a random direction but you’re not too worried about him. The two of you walk to the Sensha-Dō warehouses and as expected, a brand new Bell UH-1 “Huey” is sitting on the ground. Next to the Huey is several crates, with what you assume are the mission kits. Momo is also standing next to the helicopter inspecting it.

“Hey, Momo!” You call. She whips around, ready to berate whoever called her her first name, but her glare softens on seeing you.

“Ah, Fritz. Good to see you again.” Momo says, giving you a small smile. “I see you brought our newest student with you.”

“You knew?” You ask.

“Paperwork has to be filed weeks in advance,” Momo explains. You look to Erika who gives you a cheeky shrug.

“Well, we’re here to inspect the Sensha-Dō club’s new helicopter.” You say.

“The Sensha-Dō club’s?” She asks. “I was under the impression it was Ōoarai’s.”

“It was bought using the club’s money so it’s ours.” You explain. Momo hums and consults her clipboard.

“Well, that complicates the pilotry a little bit.” She says. “I was going to authorise an aviation club, but if it belongs to the Sensha-Dō club…”

> Let the aviation club be formed. No need to divert tankers to learning how to fly.

> Let the club be formed but make sure half the pilots come from the Tankery club

“It’s fine, authorise it.” You say. “We need pilots that aren’t tankers.”

“So, two new pilots and two from the tankery club?” Momo asks. “I can see that working.” She notes something down on her notebook.

“I’ll put up flyers at school for the two from the aviation club, can I leave it to you to find pilots from the Tankery club.” She asks,

“Sure thing.” You reply.

“Fritz! I want to fly a helicopter!” Erika immediately rounds on you.

“Get in line.” You shake her off your arm. “You’ve been here less than an hour.”

“I’ve been here a week if you count the display!” She argues.

“Apply like the others.” You manage to stay firm against her this one time.

“Fine…” She moans.

“If that’s all Momo?” You ask.

“It is.” She smiles. “Welcome back, Fritz.”

“Thanks, Momo. See you tomorrow.” With that, you and Erika leave for your apartment.

Monday 2nd July (Day 86)

You wake up as you normally do when Erika is around. Her attached to your back and Otto atop the both of you. This time however Erika doesn’t get to sleep in.

“Wake up.” You poke her in her ribs. “You have school.”

“I don’t wanna.” She mutters.

“You gotta have a shower and get ready for school.” You say.

“I’m too cool for school.” She tries to argue.

“Tankery practice is first.” That makes her pause and she groans and rolls out of bed.

“Fine, but you better have breakfast ready!”

“Of course, Erika.” You say as you roll your eyes.

After a hearty breakfast, the two of you leave for the warehouses. You arrive to the sight of your teammates, up and about.

>Just spend the morning saying hello to your comrades

You idly consider getting back to work, but you haven’t seen any of your friends for a week which is the longest you’ve been away from them since you joined Ōoarai. Given you have nothing urgent this week (though your match with Pravda is next week) you decide to relax for today.

Your first step is the student council. As expected, they’re taking advantage of the lounge area. When they see you, Anzu waves you over.

“Hey Fritz! How’s it goin? You treat my vice-president right last week?” Anzu asks as you approach.

“When have I not?” You ask as you take a seat opposite her. “You going to tell me why you used my budget to buy a helicopter?”

“All in good time.” She waves off your question. “Instructor Chono got us a meeting with the director this Wednesday, keep your schedule clear.”

“I will.” You say, mentally noting that down. “Anything else?”

“We have a match with Pravda next week. I trust you’ll have us prepared for that?”

“Of course.” You reply.

“Good stuff Fritz, now go enjoy yourself!” You take her dismissal for what it and head back to the garage.

“Hey Fritz!” You turn and see Yukari waving at you. “How was your holiday!?”

“It was great thanks Yukari.” You reply patting the floof on the head. “I got those pictures you wanted.”

“Great!” She cheers. “Thank you, Fritz!”

“No problem Yukari.” You reply. You spend the rest of morning practice catching up with Anglerfish and Hippo team as well as greeting Azusa.

>Show the shell to Werewolf, let him know how the M-36 blew it’s gun.

After lessons which are as mind-numbing as usual, you return to the garage, where Werewolf is sitting. You walk over to the tank and take a seat next to him. You examine him with your eyes. He looks more or less the same but something seems off.

His paint job is scuffed. You give him a walk around, but it’s only on one side. You examine it more closely, it’s a small black mark, with scratches radiating outwards. Unfortunately, you’re unable to figure out anymore from your examination. You decide to ask him.

“Hey Werewolf, you there bud?” You immediately feel his presence. A sort of ‘yes, and?’. “What happened here?” You ask gesturing to the black mark.

Mirth. Pure mirth mixed with joy. Probably as close to laughter as a tank can get and nothing you can go off.

“Can you show me what happened?” Your question goes ignored, the feeling of mirth remaining strong. It continues for a good five minutes before it finally subsides.

“You done yet?” You ask drily. That turns out to be the wrong question, as he starts again and you have to sit through another five minutes of tank laughter. After a full ten minutes, you finally get to the crux. “I found this in Germany, on the Sigfried line.” You show him the shell, plonking it down next to his track.

It’s obvious he recognises it. Your head swirls, you’re greeted with the Siegfried line, except it’s seventy years ago. It’s hazy, but you’re able to clearly make out Werewolf sitting on that northern hill scores of Shermans and Pershings approaching…

It cuts there, but it’s enough to learn a little more about Werewolf.

> Let everyone know about the chance to be a helicopter pilot

Given that pilot training takes weeks and you want to be able to use your new toy you decide to get the announcement out the way first. As you walk into evening practice, you walk over to Momo.

“What can I do for you?” She asks as you approach.

“I need to borrow your megaphone.” You explain. “I want to tell everyone about the opportunity to be a helicopter pilot.”

“I see.” She nods. “Stay here, I’ll be back in a minute.” She walks off towards her tank, leaving you standing there. A few minutes later, she reappears from her tank with the megaphone.

“Thank you Momo.” You say as you take the megaphone. You climb atop Werewolf and address the club.

“Everyone, can I have your attention!” You say. It takes a moment, but soon everyone is looking at you. “As you all know, we’ve acquired a new helicopter. We have four pilot slots, of which two will be filled by other students, but since we funded the helicopter we also have two slots! If you want to apply, the sign-up sheet is in the lounge area!” Immediately the warehouse breaks out into excited chatter, and you see several girls stream into the kitchen area right after you said that.

> Look into who the hell ‘Abel craft kopeks’ are

After practice, you head home. It’s just yourself, for now, Erika having mentioned something about needing to see Miho and that she’ll be back later. That’s fine by you, as it gives you more time to look into Grandfather’s tank. You set your laptop, a notepad and a pen onto the desk and get to work. So far, your only lead is the company ‘Abel Craft Kopeks’, and a quick google search reveals precious little about the company, sans that it exists. An hour of searching yields similar results, with nothing more materialising on it.

> Ninety percent of all German tanks in the country are at Black Forest, ask Maho about it.

You decide to ask Maho. As far as you know, Black Forest is the main buyer of German tanks in Japan, and in all likelihood, the where it ended up. Like last time, the phone rings twice before she picks up.

“Nishizumi Maho speaking.” She says as she picks up.

“I thought we were closer than that?” You ask, mock pain in your voice.

“Ah, Fritz. Apologies, I did not check the caller before I picked up. Do you miss me already?”

“I miss sleeping with you yeah.” She goes silent for a moment, and you hear what sounds suspiciously like a muffled laugh before she replies.

“As eloquent as ever.” She says sarcastically, though you can hear the mirth in her voice. “So is this a social call?”

“It isn’t.” You admit. “I was wondering if you’d ever come across a company called ‘Abel craft kopeks’.”

“Abel craft kopeks.” She repeats. “I can’t say I have; is there a reason I should know who they are?”

“They bought my grandfather’s tank after the war.” You explain. “I’m curious what happened to it, and since Black Forest has so many German tanks…”

“You wonder if it ended up here.” Maho finishes. “Do you have a serial number?”

“No.” You sigh. None of the documents you’ve found so far had that.

“That will make things harder.” She mumbles. “I will look into this to repay you for your hospitality, Fritz.”

“You don’t have to do that.” You reply. “But thank you anyway.”

“You’re welcome. One last thing Fritz, shall I involve Mother? I’m sure it would expedite the process but I know you’re aware Mother is very… transactional.”

“Her help would be useful.” You start. “But I’d rather not get her involved.”

“I understand.” Maho replies. “Sometimes Mother can be… overbearing.”

“Agreed.” You nod. You’ve had your fair share of encounters with Instructor Nishizumi.

“I will look into this company for you Fritz.” Maho continues. “I shall inform you of my progress.”

“Thanks, Maho.”

“You’re welcome. I shall talk to you later.” She ends the call, and you put your phone down too. Erika appears about half an hour later.

“How’d it go?” You ask.

“Fun.” She replies simply. “What did you do?”

“Just relaxed, talked to Maho a little bit.” You say back.

“You talked to Maho without me!?” She asks, mock offence on her face.

“I’m not falling for that.” You warn her. She holds your gaze for a minute.

“You’re no fun!” She blows a raspberry at you.

Tuesday 3rd July (Day 87)

> Do the usual morning training (+5XP for each Ōoarai tank)

It’s time to shift back into gear. At least that’s what you tell everyone. It goes normally. You fought a match over the holiday, so you’re still in gear. Miho and Anglerfish team are also on point as usual, and the rest of your teammates also slowly shake what little rust had accumulated off, and by the time you’re done, the team is back in the shape it was in when it beat Anzio.

> Plot a way to get Ruby and Hana together with Saori

At lunch, you seek out the loveless love expert. After consulting Miho, you find her in the warehouse giving the freshmen love advice.

“Commander Hermann!” The Freshmen call when they see you.

“Hello, Rabbits.” You reply patting the heads of a rabbit or two. “Can I borrow love instructor Takebe for a minute?”

“I wonder what Commander Hermann needs Saori-Senpai for?”
“You think him, and Koyama-Senpai are…”
“I ship it!”

You ignore the excited Rabbits and pull Saori to the side.

“So, Ruby and Hana.” You begin. Saori nods sagely.

“Yes, I’ve noticed, the sexual tension, ara ara…” She says, swooning dramatically.

“So do you think they’d go for it?” You ask.

“Well I don’t know about Ruby, but I think Hana’s into it.” Saori says.

“And I think Ruby would definitely be down for it.” You reply. “So how do we do this?”

“Well, there’s several ways…”

Get them together in one of the Sherman under the excuse that we want them to examine the gun. Try to get Ruby to confess, and if it seems like she's going to chicken out or run, then lock them in.
Use the Sherman because it has a big, relatively comfortable turret.

> Lock them in a tank together
> Try to get Ruby to confess like a normal person

“How about we accidentally lock them in a tank?” You say. “I like that plan; we can say the gun on the spare Sherman is wonky and we want our best two gunners to give it a working over.”

“That’s a great idea!” Saori says. “We can do it this evening at practice!”

“Sounds good.” Saori holds out a hand which you high five. As you turn, you see all six of the Rabbits furiously taking notes.

‘What are you doing?” You ask.

“Taking notes so we pass Saori-Senpai’s Romance Corner!” Aya informs you. You turn back to Saori.

“You have an exam?” You ask. Saori frowns.

“Love is a serious business.” Saori admonishes you. She then turns to the Rabbits. “And you girls know better than to spread what you heard here right?”

“Of course, Senpai!” Azusa answers

“We won’t tell a soul!” Aya replies.

“…” Saki just stares off into space. That’s a good enough answer for you.

“Alright, I’ll see you guys at practice.” With that, you leave to go to afternoon lessons.

You return to the warehouse several hours later. As usual, most crews are working hard to improve their tankery aside from the volleyball club, but they’re kind of special so you let it slide. You see your targets, Ruby fussing over the scratches on Werewolf’s side and Hana helping clean her tank’s gun. Rabbit team are furiously observing everyone involved, but no one’s paying them much attention.

You walk over to Ruby as nonchalantly as possible. You make sure to swipe her phone from her jacket and leave it in her bag instead.

“Hey, Ruby, what’s up?” You ask as you approach.

“Huh? Oh, not much Fritz.” She smiles. “I’m just wondering how the hell this happened.” She says pointing to the weird scratch mark.

“Yeah, I’m stumped too.” You admit. “But I’ll handle that, I need your skill for something else.”

“Sure!” She chirps. “What do you need me to do?”

“The third Sherman’s gun is a bit wonky.” You explain. “I was wondering if you and Hana could take a look at it for me.”

“What, you don’t trust me to look at it myself?” She pouts.

“Never that.” You chuckle. “Just thought two sets of eyes would be better than one.” She stares at you for a moment, judging your intentions.

“Alright.” She drawls eyeing you suspiciously. She grabs her jacket and starts walking over to the tank and you see Hana doing the same thing.

You let them stew for a good twenty minutes before you enact phase 2. You carefully close and lock all the hatches. It’s a tough job, given they’re all intended to be opened quickly from the inside, but with the creative placement of boxes of shells you manage it. It takes an hour, but eventually, Hana and Ruby are locked together in the tank. Of course, that begs the question of what to do next

>Have Love Maestro Saori give them a talking to,

You wait outside the tank as people begin to stream out of the warehouse, straining your ears to listen in to the what they’re saying. You can’t hear much aside from the occasional giggle but there’s no attempts to kill each other so you reckon it’s going well. You soon start to hear clanging.

“Hello! Is anyone there!?” Ruby shouts. “I can’t open the hatches for some reason!” They bang on the tank again, but you and Saori are the only people around so it’s ineffective.

You hear something slide. You look back to the tank, and see Hana’s slid the drivers periscope off so she can look outside.

“Hello Fritz!” She says cheerfully. “We appear to be stuck in here, would it be possible for you to open a hatch for us?”

“Fritz!?” Ruby shouts. “Let us out you moron!”

“No can do Ruby.” You reply. “Saori, if you would.”

“Saori’s in on this too!?” Ruby cries, but she goes ignored.

“Hana Isuzu! Ruby Rose!” Saori shouts. “You ladies better start getting your love life together or you’ll never hear the end of it from me.”

“Oh? What do you mean Saori?” Hana asks confused.

“I mean that Ruby has a crush on you, and you’ve strung the poor girl along for far too long!”

“Who has a what on me?” Hana asks confused.

“I do!” Ruby cries out. “I have a crush on you Hana!”

“I never even noticed…” Hana trails off.

“That’s because you’ve been too busy making weird faces at me…” Saori mutters but you ignore what might become a horribly complicated entanglement in Saori’s love life in order to better help Ruby. They’re quiet in the tank. So quiet you can’t hear a thing.

“Ok, the matter is resolved!” Hana says cheerfully from inside the tank. You look at Saori who nods. You carefully unloard the crate of tank rounds from the driver side hatch. It opens slowly, and a fist flies out. It takes you by surprise, your head is jerked back, the ceiling being all you can see for a moment before you fall off the tank. You hit the cold, familiar floor of the warehouse and see Ruby climb out of the hatch, followed by Hana.

“That was for locking me in a tank!” She declares. She doesn’t stop there however; she walks over and straddles your chest. She leans forward menacingly. You brace for whatever punishment she can give. She hugs you.

“And that’s for helping me out.” She holds the hug for a moment, the smell of strawberries tickling your nose. She quickly withdraws, hoping off your chest and walking over to Hana. “Let’s bounce.” You note with no small amount of satisfaction they leave holding hands.

“Mission accomplished.” You say to Saori.

“You girls can come out now!” You call. Nothing happens.

“Who are you talking to Fritz?” Saori asks. “Did you hit your head too hard? Shall I get the nurse?” You ignore her for the moment.

“You’re not in trouble!” You shout. For a moment nothing again. Then the Commander’s hatch slowly peaks open.

“You promise?” Azusa’s muffled voice calls.

“As long as you don’t gossip about what you saw.” You reply.

“The Freshmen were here watching?” Saori gasps. You chuckle as the girls slowly climb out of the tank.

Saori-Senpai! Commander Hermann! We saw the love masters in action!” They crow as they approach. Karina and Ayumi grab your arms, and with some help from the other freshmen manage to push you to a sitting position.

“Girls! I told you that matters of the heart are private!” Saori admonishes them.

“But Senpai! We wanted to see the master in action!” Aya answers for the freshmen.

“That’s a bit hypocritical coming from us.” You mutter. “We stuck our noses in a ‘private matter’.”

“Ugh fine!” Saori pouts. “But don’t go spreading this ok girls!?”

“We won’t tell a soul!”
“We’ll take it to our grave!”
“Don’t spread what?”
“…”

Their replies are enough you’re reasonably sure your gunner’s love life will stay secret.

“Can you girls help me up then?” You ask.

“Of course, Commander!” Azusa says. She begins barking out orders. “Karina! Left hand! Aya right hand! The rest of you, lift!” Between the six of them, they manage to get you on your feet again.

“Ugh, thank you girls.” You mutter. “I’m calling it a night here, you should too.”

“Do you need some help getting home Commander?” Yuuki asks.

“No, I’ll be fine thanks.” You reply, patting her on the head. “See you all tomorrow.”

Wednesday 4th July

You wake up thankfully headache-less. Erika seems to have awoken before you, which is a surprise given you can count the number of times that’s happened on one hand but you put it down to yesterday’s head trauma and get ready for school. As you’re getting ready, your phone buzzes. It’s a reminder from the President of your meeting with the director today after afternoon lessons.

You arrive at the warehouses a few minutes later. It’s exactly as you left it yesterday. The only difference being that Ruby and Hana are giving each other looks from across the warehouse. You assume from that, everything is going well so far.

> Do the usual morning training (+5XP for each Ōoarai tank)

Tankery practice goes as well as it normally does. The rust is well and truly gone, Ōoarai functioning like a well-oiled machine. Or at least as well-oiled as four-month-old tanker team can be. In particular, you note the performance of Rabbit team and Hippo team. Rabbit team perform exceptionally compared to their first combat against Darjeeling. In every sense of the word, you’d consider them Veteran tankers. Hippo team are not far behind, though their shooting was sharp from the beginning, it’s been honed even further. You reckon that normal training won’t really help them anymore.

>Rabbit team have been promoted to Veteran (3 rerolls)

>Meet with the Student Council and prep for the meeting.

At lunch, you decide to head to the Council office to strategize for your upcoming meeting with Director Kodama.

You knock as you’ve done dozens of times before and wait for the ‘Come in’. You see the Student Council arranged as usual, down to Otto lounging on Yuzu’s desk, even though you could swear you locked him in before you left.

“Ah, Fritz. How did I know you’d come to see us today?” The President drawls from her chair.

“Because you told me we have a very important meeting today?” You reply drily.

“Important is an understatement.” Yuzu murmurs. You take a seat opposite the President.

“So, what’s the game plan?” You ask. The President leans forward as you say that, the lackadaisical layabout giving way to the killer politician you know is underneath.

“We have several.” She replies and holds up her hand. “Firstly, we could emphasise the breaking of that rule.”

“Rule 83, appendix 3, addendum 7.” Momo helpfully supplies.

“It’s the most obvious way to prove that something’s wrong with Ōoarai’s closure, but it’ll take time to get through the bureaucracy meaning Tsuji will know we’re gunning for him.” The president folds her thumb against her palm. “Secondly, we could threaten to go to the media with this. The Federation would probably do anything it can to save face but it’s risky. They might double down on closing us to avoid further disgrace.” She then folds in her index finger. “We could also sidestep the accusations slightly. We focus on Ōoarai’s recent successes and ask if there’s still reason to close us down and give them the information as a gesture of goodwill.”

Focusing on the rule violation is probably the surest bet, though it leaves some time for retaliation. But between the Principle and Instructors Chouno and Nishizumi, and the threat of a media leak if they try any funny buisness, we should be pretty secure. “Say, Prez, why are you counting backwards?” You ask. A smile flicks across her face.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about gaijin.” There’s no heat behind it, and you’re reminded of Cutlass at Bar Donzoko giving you an incorrect number of shots. Maybe you’re the one counting wrong…

“Anyway, I reckon we focus on the rule violation.” You say. “It’s probably the most surefire way to get our point across, even if we’re open to retaliation for a while.”

“Yeah, that’s what we thought,” Anzu says as she leans back. “Anything else?”

“Well, there’s always Winry.” You say. “We can let them know word gets out if this doesn’t go our way.”

“A good idea.” Anzu allows. “But the minute it gets out, we have no leverage and the Federation closes ranks. We need to be a bigger school to do that.” Your confusion must show because she elaborates. “Win the semi-finals and that could work.”

“Don’t worry about that, myself and Miho have that covered.” You reassure her.

“Good to hear!” She chirps. “Now let’s go!”

“Now?” You ask. “Didn’t you say after lessons?”

“Yeah, but you’re here now so let’s go!” She jumps out of her chair, Yuzu and Momo getting up as well. “Don’t worry about lessons, we’ll excuse you!”

“I wasn’t.” You reply. “Just a little surprised.” The four of you walk out. You start heading down the stairs, but the council turns towards the stairs to the roof. You follow them slightly confused.

You find out why, when you make it out onto the landing pad and the Huey is circling the landing pad.

“We have a pilot!?” You ask.

“No, we have Chono!” Yuzu replies. The helicopter sets down, and Instructor Chono leans out the window.

“Hello, Ladies and Gentleman! Your ride awaits!” That knocks you out of your stupor, and you follow the Council into the helicopter.

“Say Chono!” You shout into the headset you were given

> You know how to fly a helicopter?
> Are you going to help us out with the director?

“Why wouldn’t I!?” She laughs. “And this is how I’m helping you!”

“By flying us there!?” You ask.

“And back!” She replies. “You need to raise your profile right!? This is how you do it! A helicopter with your flag painted on it!” You press your face against the glass and see true to her word an Ōoarai flag is indeed painted on the side of the helicopter. “I can’t help with the director, because he’s my boss but I wish you luck kids!” You lean back and watch the sea beneath you as you fly past. It soon gives way to land. About an hour after you took off, the helicopter starts to slow.

“We’re here!” Chono says into the intercom. You look out the window and see a skyscraper with a helipad at the top. Chono puts the helicopter down gently, the rotors slowly spooling down. “This is as far as I go, but I hope it goes well for you.”

“So do we.” You mutter under your breath. The girls are already dismounting, so you follow them out.

A waiting servant leads you through the building, you don’t have to go far – the director’s office is on the top floor, but it’s still quite the walk taking a good five minutes from the helipad. You scarcely took a seat in the plush waiting area before the assistant sitting next to the door called you forward.

Anzu strides forth, as confident as you’ve ever seen her. You scramble to catch up with her, Momo and Yuzu doing the same either side of you.

You enter the office, and it looks pretty normal for a Japanese office. It looks very open. Director Kodama is sitting at his desk which is a dark woody colour. Behind him is a large window, looking out over Tokyo. To the left of his desk behind a sliding door is a small Bozai garden. The tree is big, almost as tall as Anzu. To the right is a display case, filled with models of various tanks. You reckon Yukari would like it here.

“Director Kodama.” Anzu said bowing deeply. You and the other members of the Student Council follow her lead.

“Ladies.” He replies. “And Gentleman. Please, take a seat.” The four of you take the seats arranged before the desk, and he begins talking. “So, Instructor Chono informed me you need to speak to me.” He starts.

“She’s right director.” Anzu replies. “We believe that the closure of Ōoarai is a malicious action rather than based on any actual basis.”

“Oh?” He asks, arching an eyebrow. “Please, enlighten me.”

“Commander Hermann, Vice-President Koyama, would you care to enlighten the Director.” If Yuzu’s surprised, she hides it well and begins speaking.

“Mr Tsuji is pursuing Ōoarai’s closure for personal reasons. His sister attended the academy, and died in a training accident which we believe he blames the school for.” She says. She looks to you, and you rack your brains for a moment before continuing from where she left off.

“Ever since he joined MEXT Mr Tsuji has been pushing for Ōoarai’s closure in his official reports, regardless of whether it made financial sense or not.” Momo slides across a folder of what you assume is evidence to the Director who flicks through it.

“This is in direct violation of Rule 83, appendix 3, addendum 7 on Impartiality.” Anzu adds. “We’d like to protest Ōoarai’s closure as being unfair.”

“While I see where Ōoarai is coming from, I’m afraid this may not be enough.” He says, slowly. Anzu immediately moves to counter but he holds up a hand. “Make no mistake, Tsuji will pay for this with his termination at the least and possibly jail time, but it is not he alone who made the decision. The School Carriers Department votes as a council to decide whether or not to close a carrier. This.” He says gesturing to the file. “Will embarrass them and make them unlikely to reverse any previous decision and bring about more shame.”

“So that’s it?” Momo asks weakly. The director shakes his head.

“I did not say that. If you manage to impress them, that in combination with my own influence would keep your school open.”

“Would winning the 63rd National High School Sensha-Dō Tournament help?” Anzu asks.

“It wouldn’t, Ōoarai has been performing well so it wouldn’t be enough of a shock to them.”

“What can we do then?” Anzu asks.

“The All-Stars.” He replies sighing. “I’ll try to push as hard as I can for you, but I fear little other than beating MEXT’s dogs in a standard match will be enough to shock those old fools.”

“If we beat them?” Anzu asks.

“Then you have my word your school will stay open.” He says.

Anzu subtly looks at you.

Going with the All-Stars would probably be easier than in der Film, I imagine with Tsuji gone there won't be any last minute fuckery with the Carl-Geralt getting approved, plus the 50% reduction, though I don't know if that will remain if we bring friends, it may only be up to the point of matching the All-Stars.

Going public would be extremely unpredictable, and if we have to fight for it anyways, there will probably be funny business no matter what.
>>
>>4356799
We could bring up that Ooari doesn't the worst finances and that the judgment they made was still biased, might go well with threatining to go public.
>>
>>4356799
Playing on their terms just sends a message that they can learn how to cover their ass better and get away with it next time. It might not be the same school or motive, but it will happen because the culture stayed the same.

Feel free to try to negotiate with him if you want.

If you do go public, it'll be different but you have a PR manager to ease the process.
>>
>>4356818
That's a good point, but from the point of view of Ooari, it puts us out in the unknown, where as we know our chances with the All Stars.

If we do go public, it'll probably be a game of getting other institutions, gov agencies or schools to back us.

OOC, about how famous are we?
>>
>>4356830
>Try and negotiate some more before committing.
Didn't Anzu already have an agreement that if we won the tournament the school would stay open?
If we bring it up, and they balk or try to sidestep it, we should pressure them for arguing in bad faith.
OOC we don't know they were going to cheat the school, but if Anzu already made the deal and they are already changing it, it would be good proof of bad faith.

In Japan, about the equivalent of a premier league football team if anyone here follows that.

Outside of Japan, you're pretty famous in Germany thanks to Fritz, not at the same level as Japan, but pretty close. Tankers and Enthusiasts in other countries about know that you exist but that's it.

In the niche Tankery communities Ōoarai is legendary.

> Nod your head, you think you can win [Instructor Nishizumi decreases this to eliminate 50% of the all-stars in the match.]

You consider it a moment, as much as you want to shake your head, that pushes Ōoarai into the unknown. A PR war is something you don’t have a clue how to fight but on the other hand, you feel like a fiddle, and MEXT is the damn musician. You nod your head. It’s subtle but Anzu catches it.

“We’ll do it.” She says. “But does that mean that fighting in the national tournament is worthless?”

“Quite the opposite.” Director Kodama chuckles. “Every match you win, every tank you knock out, every picture you take helps me push your case. Do the best you can, and all of it will help you come the match with the All-Stars.”

“Director, excuse me for saying this.” You say. “But this all feels kind of rubbish – We’re playing MEXT’s game here and we have evidence of their chairperson committing a crime. Surely there’s more that you can do.”

“There isn’t. He says simply. “Think of the Sensha-Dō Federation as an army, I as Director of the federation am equivalent to the Chief of the Navy say, whereas Tsuji is an Airforce General. He’s beneath me in rank, so I can influence him and MEXT, but I can’t order him around.”

“The worst part is, he agreed to keep Ōoarai open if we won the nationals,” Anzu adds offhandedly.

“He did?” Kodama asks. “Tsuji is a friend of mine, but liars, I despise them.” He ‘tsks’ and shakes his head. “You will soon receive an agreement from MEXT, regarding your match with the All-Stars but as a show of good faith I can do Ōoarai a favour or two to help you out.”

“What kind of favour?” Yuzu asks.

Kodama just smiles

Tanks are your immediate thought. Ōoarai has skill in spades, but material and tanks are what it’s lacked compared to the bigger names in high school Sensha-Dō.

“We have a T1 we’ve been upgrading.” You start. “We have the M6A2E1 engine and tracks but we could use the parts required to bring it up to scratch.”

“That can be done.” He nods. “If there is one thing the federation is good at, it is finding unique tank equipment. Consider it done.”

“And is it possible the Federation could help us acquire another tank?” You ask. “Ōoarai has plenty of skill, just not the tanks to measure up to the big boys.”

“We can subsidize a tank purchase if you need.” Director Kodama says. “We can’t outright buy one for you though as that could be interpreted as favouritism.”

“Towards a school that’s been neglected?” Anzu muses allowed. You can’t help but agree. The director looks slightly uncomfortable, but you have to admit Anzu has a point.

“Either way, here are your choices regarding the purchase. I trust you’ll find the options satisfactory.”

(Pick one)

> Comet, 15 credits, Good condition (1 day)

You look over the options available. Any of them are good, but you need firepower now and the Comet is the only one you’ll be able to get working before the match with Pravda.

“We’ll take the Comet.” You say. Director Kodama nods and writes that down on a piece of paper. He then presses a button on his desk, and the assistant from outside walks in to collect it.

“You will have it tomorrow.” He says. As soon as the assistant leaves, he sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. “And here I thought I was done with politics.”

“Life makes a fool of us all Director,” Anzu replies. He lets out a single bark of laughter.

“That it does President Kadotani! Now run along, kids your age should not have to worry about matters such as these, and I’m loathe to keep you here longer than necessary.” You take that for the dismissal it is, and with a deep bow, the four of you depart. As you begin the walk back towards the landing pad, you look to the elevator and see a very familiar face.

Instructor Nishizumi locks onto you immediately and nods her head. You nod back, and she strides towards the director’s office. You definitely wouldn’t want to be him right now.

As the helicopter takes off, you lean back into your seat with a sigh. Yuzu leans against you, letting you support her weight. It didn’t go exactly as planned, but at least you got a guarantee and a very real chance of putting this matter to bed.

You arrive back at Ōoarai about an hour later. It’s about the time that evening practice usually finishes.

“The Student Council has a lot to talk about,” Anzu says as you walk back to the office. “But thanks for your help, Fritz.”

“Well, it’s my mess too right now.” You mutter back. “But you’re welcome.”

“See you, tomorrow Commander,” Momo says with a small smile. You lean down to receive a hug from Yuzu, then depart from the office.

> Ask Yukari about the damaged paint and Werewolf’s laughter

As you walk out of Ōoarai’s bridge, you decide to go see Yukari. Partially because you’ve not talked to her properly for a while, and partially because she’s probably the most likely candidate for knowing what that weird mark is on Werewolf. It’s a short walk to the Akiyama Barbers. The sign on the door says closed, but you just text Yukari you’re outside. A minute later, you see her flying down the stairs.

“Fritz!” She cheers as she opens the door. “You weren’t at practice!”

“I wasn’t Yukari.” You accept her invitation to come inside. “I was helping the Student Council with something.”

“I see.” She says as she leads you to her room. “Well Commander Nishizumi took care of it, so you don’t have to.”

“I’m glad.” You reply. You make some small talk for a little while as Yukari’s mother brings some snacks, and her father offers a haircut. You consider it a moment, but you politely decline. When they leave, you decide to broach the subject with Yukari.

“So, Yukari.” You start. “When I came back from the holiday I noticed some weird scratches on Werewolf’s side, and he didn’t really say anything about it. Do you know anything about that?” Yukari goes red.

“Oh, uh that.” She murmurs. “Promise not to get mad?”

“Depends on what happened.” You reply.

“Ithrewagrenadeatsomeonemessingwithyourtank!” Your Japanese has gotten better, but she says it too quickly for you to understand.

“You want to repeat that slightly slower?” You ask. She takes a breath and does so.

“I went to keep Werewolf company one night as you said, and I saw someone trying to gain access to your tank I didn’t recognise, and I panicked, and I threw a Stielhandgranate at them.” She says, refusing to make eye contact. “I’m uh, sorry about the damage…”

Yukari freezes as you headpat her.

“You’re not mad?” She asks, looking up at you.

“I’m not, Yukari.” You reassure her. “Werewolf is a member of my crew; you help him you help me.”

“Oh, few!” She sighs in relief. “I was scared you’d be angry.”

“Maybe if you’d done it for no good reason.” You acknowledge. “But it was for a good reason, so I can’t be angry.” You frown and think. “But what happened to the person you threw it at? Did you have to hide a body somewhere?”

“None of that!” She laughs and punches you in the shoulder. “It’s a Panzerkraft safe simmunition! Apart from the casing, instead of shrapnel, it releases rubber balls.”

“So, it must have been the casing that hit Werewolf.” You say.

“Probably!” She chirps. “The would-be saboteur escaped out the back! But Werewolf thought the ordeal was hilarious!”

“He did laugh very hard when I asked him about it.” You muse. “Regardless, thank you Yukari.”

“Anytime Fritz!” She cheers as she gives you a happy salute.

You head home after that. Erika’s already asleep when you get back, so you quietly get changed and slip into bed alongside her. It doesn’t take long for her to latch onto your back as normal.

Thursday 5th July (Day 89)

As normal, you have to wake up Erika that morning. The two of you, with Otto shadowing you from the rooftops, walk to the warehouse. When you arrive, your goods have arrived. You see the parts for the T1 upgrade kit as well as the team assigned to fit it. They’re currently in the engineering block, working to fit the upgrades. The Comet has also arrived and is sitting in the courtyard where a couple of your teams are gawking at it.

You decide to deal with the new tanks later, perhaps in the evening when you would usually look at such things. For now, you stick to the tanking aspect of Tankery.

“Miho! How about we teach them about how to deal with unusual weather?” You ask. You’d been lucky so far, most of your battles being fought in good weather, but your luck might not hold.

The teaching goes well. Or at least as well as it can go. Most of your teams diligently listen to the briefing you and Miho give on poor whether tanking, thanks to Momo berating anyone who doesn’t pay attention. You’re ninety percent sure it goes over duck team’s head, but they’re crazy enough drivers that you reckon they’ll be alright

> All teams get +2 XP and no mobility penalty from weather

>Volleyball-Club

You decide to spend lunch with the volleyball club. It’s been a while since you last played volleyball with them, and you’re itching to see if you’ll do better this time.

“Alright Commander!” Noriko cheers as you join in. “You can be with Taeko and Shinobu against me and Akebi!” You take a deep breath and steel yourself. You eye Noriko, standing across the net from you.

You handle yourself pretty well. A dive to the forecourt to dig the ball gets you a nod from Noriko. A killer spike after Taeko sets you up get a high five. You’re still not at their level, as getting pounded by spike after spike from Noriko or constantly getting blocked by Akebi shows, but you manage to hold your own.

“Good job, Commander!” Akebi says, patting you on the back as she passes you a water bottle. “You didn’t almost die this time!”

“It was a close-run thing.” You murmur. Noriko laughs at that.

“Soon you’ll be volleyball club material, Commander Hermann!” Noriko cheers.

“But Captain, we’re still the former Volleyball club!” Taeko reminds her. She slumps.

“True, but we can always hope!” She cheers! That seems to revive the volleyball club, as they all start cheering as well.

After lessons, you head to the warehouses as usual. There’s a lot to be done. The engineers have finished on the M6 and its slowly being manoeuvred out of the engineering block; the Comet is still sitting in front of the warehouse; you still have a cache of equipment bought before the half term to distribute and the list of applicants to fly the helicopter is still pinned to the corkboard in the lounge/kitchen area.

Equipment to distribute:
> 4 Driver optic upgrade
> 3 Suped-up high explosive ammunition

(It can’t be distributed to yourself or Erika)

You also have two brand new tanks to give out. Some of your teams are more in need of a new tank than others such as duck team, but the M6A2E1 needs a crew of six to function properly. The crews will also need to be retrained, which will be a close thing given you have five days to prepare.

The tank are relatively easy to assign, Duck team has somehow lasted throughout the tournament and several other battles in their tiny I-Go, and if anyone is due for an upgrade, it’s them. The M6 is slightly harder to assign, but you decide on the Rabbit team. They’re the only people with enough crew members to operate it. You just hope you can convince them to let go of their M3…

The equipment is relatively easy, you assign the optics to the teams that don’t have them. The Suped-up high explosive is also easy, as you need to get the newer tanks up to scratch, and the large gun of the M6 means the high explosive will pack a hell of a punch. The HVAP is a bit trickier. You eventually decide on the Tiger P and the StuG as they have big guns which will be able to do a lot of damage with them. You give the last one to the Mark IV to let them contribute a bit more, because otherwise their 57-millimetre guns are not the best at killing tanks. With that sorted, you head out to the warehouse to tell them about their new tanks. You go for Rabbit team first, the girls hanging about on their tank and doing some general maintenance.

“Girls!” You call. “I have a present for you!”

“A present?” They ask, heads instantly perked. The six of them scurry over to you.

“What present, Commander?” Azusa asks.

“Is it new phones?” Aya asks

“A boyfriend?” Yuuki asks.

“A tank.” You answer gesturing to the M6. They look… less than enthusiastic.

“But how can we be Rabbit team if our tank looks like a goose?” Aya whines.

“What’s wrong with it?” Karina asks.

“…” Saki stares off into space and the rest of Rabbit team voice similar levels of disapproval.

There’s no point forcing them to drive a tank they don’t like given they won’t be able to put their all into it but at the same time, you don’t have any spare crews and you’re not sure if the M3 will be able to compete at the top level.

> ”Ladies, the M3 is a good, solid tank, and it’s gotten you through a lot. But the M6, this is a tank that not only deserves, but *needs* a crew of your calibre. The M6 is a rare tank, able to take more hits and deal more damage than the M3. Think of the importance of being upfront with the Tiger P and Werewolf, blunting the enemy attack, and dishing out righteous fury! Panzer Vor!”
>Talk up how unique the tank is and how it would make them some of the biggest stars on the team. Also, throw in something about how boys would be more likely to notice them.

As you say it, the girls turn to look contemplatively at the tank. It’s a good minute before any of Rabbit team says anything.

“I suppose that the gun is pretty big,” Aya observes.

“It would look pretty cool to do what Leopon team does.” Yuuki allows

“Maybe I’ll be able to get a boyfriend with this tank!” Yuuki chirps.

“And the engine’s pretty big, so it’ll probably go faster!” Karina says excitedly. You decide not to correct that last point.

“You would be very noticeable in the M6.” You say, agreeing with Yuuki. “And if you’re more noticeable…”

“You’re more likely to get a boyfriend!” Yuuki finishes. The freshmen sans Azusa begin to walk over to the tank.

“You didn’t fall for it?” You ask, not bothering to try the same tactic on her.

“I love the girls, but they can be a little bit gullible.” She says looking to you with a smile. “In my head, I know the M6 is the better option, but in my heart, I can’t help but look back at the M3.”

“So, which will you follow?” You ask. “Regardless of what I say, the girls will go with what you pick.”

“My head.” She sighs. “I know Ōoarai’s not in a good position compared to the other schools, so I’ll push the girls to accept it.”

“Clever.” You pat her head and she blushes. “You’ll make a good Commander for Ōoarai one day.”

“You think?” She asks blushing even harder, “I don’t know about that…”

“Well, look around and you’ll see there’s few who can.” You shrug. “And you’re the only one learning from a Nishizumi.”

“And you!” She warns.

“And me.” You laugh. “I’ve not forgotten, go on, go look at your new tank.” She slowly walks towards the other Rabbits. You watch for a moment before heading to the volleyball club.

The volleyball club is predictably playing Volleyball. They’re outside the Warehouse, using the Type 89 as a net

“Hey Volleyball Club!” You call to them. “The Comet’s yours if you want it!”

“The Comet, what’s that?” Akebi asks.

“A type of volleyball attack?” Noriko asks. “Nah, it can’t be or I’d know it!”

“It’s a tank.” You say. “The one behind you guys actually.” You point to the Comet sitting behind them. They look at the tank sceptically.

“We like our Type-89…” Noriko whines sadly. You sigh and scratch your head. Another convince mission…

Ask mallard team if they want to take over the comet. We left off on a bad note with them before break, and their tank at the moment doesn't really fit the doctrine we usually employ. It's too big and slow while lacking firepower, and they don't have enough manpower to make use of all its weaponry efficiently either.

> Explain how the Type-89 is faster so they’ll be able to train their reflexes better
>> Promise to put in a good word with the Student Council if they drive it

“So, you don’t want it?” You ask. Before they can answer you continue. “That’s a shame, the Comet’s a really tough tank to drive – too fast for most teams to do it. You need the reflexes of a professional athlete and you need real guts to drive it.”

“We have GUTS…” Noriko murmurs.

“You do.” You acknowledge. “But if you don’t have enough to drive the Comet I understand.” You say sighing.

“We have enough GUTS to do anything!” Noriko shouts. “Including driving a Comet, don’t we girls!”

“We do Captain!” The other girls shout. They shoot off towards the tank, you shake your head. That was too easy.

> Ask Instructor Nishizumi how the meeting went

Practice ends soon after, and you have nothing planned for the day, so you head back home. Before you can relax for the day, you have one last bit of work to do. You call Instructor Nishizumi.

She picks up in a single ring.

“Commander Hermann.” She states plainly.

“Instructor Nishizumi.” You reply. No one talks for a minute before you continue speaking. “I’d like to ask how your meeting with the director went.”

“It went.” She replies. You snort at that and she continues. “You will receive a document from MEXT detailing the agreement between them, the federation and the school. It will be up to your president to decide whether to accept or not, but I’d recommend she does.”

“Of course.” You reply. “Do you have the specifics of the deal?”

“Knock out half the All-Stars’ tanks in an elimination match.” She says. You take a moment to process that.

“Only half?” You ask.

“Do your ears not work?” She asks. “I put the screws on Tsuji and he relented.”

“I see.” You reply. “Well thank you then, Instructor.”

“This was just business.” She brushes off your thanks. “Keep your end of the deal.”

“I will.” You promise. The line goes dead shortly after.

“Who were you talkin’ to Fritz!?” Erika asks as she walks out of the bedroom.

“Instructor Nishizumi.” You reply. Erika shivers and takes a seat next to you on the Sofa.

“She’s creepy,” Erika replies. She’s about to elaborate before her attention is stolen by the TV. “Hey look! It’s a movie!” You look at the screen and Greyhound is playing. Not about Tanks, but close enough.

“Let’s watch, then shall we?” You offer. Erika grabs a blanket and throws it over the two of you as you settle in to watch the movie.

Just before you turn to the screen, you flick to your phone. The tank museum opened the mess tin and found an encrypted journal they’re trying to decrypt. Exciting stuff.

Duck Team 17/40 Acclimatisation
Rabbit Team 19/40 Acclimatisation

> Focus on getting Rabbit and Duck acclimated to their new tanks

You decide to focus on getting Rabbit and Duck team used to their new tanks. They won’t be able to operate at maximum capacity if they haven’t trained properly on them. You idly consider what you can do with them as Erika and you walk to the warehouses. You eventually decide on doing normal drills with them but pushing them a bit harder than usual. It goes pretty well. Duck team takes to their new tank like ducks to water. Miho had casually mentioned to you that they were one of the three best crews on the team and looking at their performance, you can’t help but agree. They barely got into the tank before beginning to push it to the limits. While your turbine engine definitely makes you fast in a straight line, you find yourself unable to match their manoeuvring skill even though they’ve been using the tank barely an hour. Rabbit team are similarly capable. Though it takes some getting used to when transitioning from a lighter tank, the girls do an admirable job of it. The rapport of the gun, in particular, seems to, if not sell them on the tank, at least convince them it’s worth giving it a shot.

> Have lunch with the Student Council

You decide to visit the Student Council. Unlike most of your visits, this is a social call instead of a working one. You knock on the door and wait for the ‘enter’ as has become routine. You walk in and see for once that the girls are not working, and are instead relaxing on the sofas in the corner of the office. Anzu’s lying across the single seat at the head, with Yuzu sitting on the big sofa to her left and Momo opposite Yuzu in one of the single seats.

“Hey, Commander Hermann! What’s up!” Anzu waves from the single seat at the head.

“Got something for us.” You reply. You pull out two pizzas. “One Hawaiian and one regular.”

“Oh, goodie!” Anzu reorients herself so she’s sitting normally. “This isn’t a bribe is it Commander?”

“It’s just a social call.” You confirm. You set the pizzas down and the four of you dig in. After you’ve demolished a couple of slices, Anzu speaks again.

“So, Commander. What are you doing on Tanabata? It’s this weekend after all.”

> “What’s that?”

You ask.

“The Star Festival,” Yuzu says from next to you. “It’s great! It celebrates the meeting of the lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi on the seventh day of the seventh month. There’s a massive festival every year!” You may not be the sharpest social tool in the shed, but you recognise her tone of voice.

“Would you like to go with me?” You ask.

“I’d love to.” Yuzu replies, giving you a kiss on the cheek. You look back to Anzu.

“I think I know what I’m doing on Tanabata.”

“Vice President Koyama?” She asks drily. Momo struggles and fails to stop herself from laughing at that.

“I didn’t mean it like that!” You say quickly, but the damage is done. All three of them including a very red Yuzu are laughing aloud. You decide to cut your losses and leave.

“Do you want to come over tonight?” You say to Yuzu.

“Sure.” She replies, still slightly red. You ignore the catcalls from the student council and make your escape.

>Check the pilot candidate list

After afternoon lessons, you return to the tankery warehouse. You idly note that it’s kind of cramped. You have a lot of tanks now and a helicopter. You reckon that unfortunately, the helicopter’s cost is going to fall on your club because it’s the only profitable thing about this place.

You walk into the lounge area and take the list from the noticeboard. There are quite a few applicants.

> Saori Takebe
> Momo Kawashima
> Erwin
> Nekota
> Hoshino

Not as many as you expected, but still more than the two slots your club has.

> They’re all qualified, just pick at random
> Talk to them more then make an educated decision

Just a note, the Helicopter is unlikely to be that big of a deal so this isn’t too important. Unless you want it to be a big deal that is.
>>

> They’re all qualified, just pick at random

Hoshino might be good due to mechanical skill, Saori would be good due to radio experience, and Momo would definitely be convenient. But other than that, ther doesn't seem to be too much difference in any of their skill levels.

> Saori Takebe
> Erwin

Just a note, the Helicopter is unlikely to be that big of a deal so this isn’t too important. Unless you want it to be a big deal that is.

You put the names in a random picker and spin it twice. At this stage, there’s no real way to differentiate if anyone would be an ace pilot, it pops out Saori and Erwin’s names. You note them down then walk into the warehouse.

“Saori!” You call. The girl in question was talking to the Freshmen, possibly giving them more love lessons. You wave her over. As she’s walking, you manage to catch Erwin’s eye and gesture for her to come over. The two girls soon arrive in the lounge area.

“So, what do you need us for Fritz?” Saori asks.

“You two were selected to be the pilots from the Sensha-Do club.” You say. “Congratulations.”

“I was obviously picked because of my qualifications as a radio operator!” Saori chirps as she flashes a peace sign and winks.

“And I for the prowess I share with my namesake.” Erwin boats, pointing a thumb at herself.

“Definitely.” You nod, unwilling to burst their bubble. “Either way, your pilot training begins after the match with Pravda.”

“I’m looking forward to it!”

“We’ll do the Sensha-Dō team proud!” You nod at their responses and dismiss them, the two of them returning to their teams to tell them the good news.

> Kick Erika out for a night to spend with Yuzu

As you’re leaving, you pull Erika aside.

“I need a favour.”

“What is it?” She’s eyeing you suspiciously.

“I need my room back for a night. I want to have a date night with Yuzu.”

“And you don’t want your annoying little sister there to ruin it...” She’s looking down at the ground and you here a sniffle.

“Erika, it’s not like that-“ You rush to console her but then you see the shit eating grin on her face. “Ha ha. Very funny.” You say drily. She looks back up at you, still grinning.

“I got you good huh?” She chirps. “That’s fine, I’ll use the apartment Ōoarai gave me, But if you do any hanky panky change the sheets!” She turns and walks towards the apartment she has but never uses.

“There won’t be any hanky panky!” You call after her but it’s useless. Once again, you’ve lost to Erika…

You walk home after that, and about an hour later. Yuzu arrives.

“Delivery for Fritz Hermann!” She calls from the door.

“I didn’t order anything!” You shout back. You give it a moment for it to sink in and you open the door. She’s standing there pouting.

“I’ll accept this one though.” That does it for Yuzu who laughs and stretches up to kiss you. You take her inside and close the door behind you. She dumps her overnight bag by the door. Then takes a seat on the sofa. You take one next to her.

“It’s been too long since we did this.” She sighs as she leans her head on your shoulder.

“It has.” You agree. “We don’t have any conspiracy theories this time though.”

“We don’t.” She agrees. “We can still make tinfoil hats if you want.”

“Maybe next time. I thought we could go dancing or do karaoke or something outside today.”

“I’d love to go dancing!” Yuzu cheers. “I’ve not done so in so long!”

“Shall we then?” You ask. “I’d love to dance with you.”

“Charmer.” She smiles and hits you lightly in the chest. “There’s no walk in dance places today, but we can use the old ballet studio.”

“It’ll be just us?” You ask.

“Just us.” She confirms. “Perks of being a member of the student council.”

You change into a tracksuit and a tank top, and Yuzu into a pair of yoga pants and a big shirt she was going use for pyjamas.

You use your bike to get there quick. Yuzu clings to you tight like she did the first time the two of you went for a joyride around time. You make sure to go a little faster so she has to cling tighter.

You make it to school in record time. Yuzu takes you around the back and pulls out a set of keys to open an old gate. As the two of you rush to the studio you feel like a naughty schoolboy sneaking around, though you suppose that’s what you are.

You soon reach the studio. Yuzu opens the door and the two of you walk in. The lights turn on as you enter. It’s large, almost as large as the warehouse was before any extensions. Along the long wall to the right is a full length mirror spanning the entire wall.

“It’s not been used in a long time.” Yuzu sighs. “We just don’t have the money to keep it open.”

“Well hopefully that will change soon.” You say. She takes a deep breath and smiles.

“Yeah, that’s why we’re fighting.” She walks over to a sound system and plugs in her phone. Classical music starts to play.

“Don’t worry Fritz, I’ll take it easy on you.” She smirks as she walks over. “I’m pretty good at this.”

> “I appreciate that.” Take it easy getting into it.

“Good, follow my lead.” She positions you in front of her. “Put your heels together and point your toes out to either side.” You follow her instructions.

“Good! That’s the first position!” She cheers. She leads you through another three of the basic ballet positions.

You do some of the basic movements as well, going through them faster and faster until both of you are panting from exhaustion.

“How about we go through the positions again?” Yuzu offers. You agree to take a small break.

The positions get harder as you go, until you get to the fifth one.

“Ok, Fritz. Stand with one foot about a foot’s length in front of your other foot.” You barely manage to do so. “Each foot should be pointing in the opposite direction, and the toes of the back foot should line up with the heel of the front foot.” You struggle to follow her instructions, you may be pretty strong for a seventeen-year-old, but you’ve never been flexible. “Now put them together.”

“I can’t.” You turn to look at her. You reply seriously. “I don’t think my body was built to bend this way.”

“Five-year-olds do this everyday Fritz.” She moves in front of you. “Now hold still as I help you out!” She starts pushing your feet closer together.

“I don’t think this is a good idea.” You warn as you start to wobble.

“You’ll be fine.” Yuzu sighs. “Now stand still as I correct your posture.” She pushes your foot in. You wobble dangerously and grab her for support. Unfortunately, you’re almost double her weight, and both of you fall.

“Ah!” Yuzu shouts. She lands on the wooden floor, and you’re about to fall on top of her. Thankfully, reflexes kick in and you’re able to get your hands either side of her before you squash her.

Of course, that leaves you, heavily panting, atop a very flustered and panting Yuzu.

> “Told you so.”

“You did.” Yuzu pants. “Oopsie daisy.”

“You don’t look very sorry.” You reply, panting just as hard.

“And what are you going to do about it?” She asks grinning at you. You don’t answer with words, instead, you drop from your hands to your elbows, so you’re closer to her. Yuzu takes full advantage of it. Leaning forward, she wraps her hands around your neck and pushes herself against you. You accept the kiss, opening your mouth to let her in. You move one of your hands, easily supporting your weight on one arm, and move it towards her shirt. You hover over her for a moment before Yuzu opens her eyes. Sees your hand and lets go of your neck with one arm. She gently moves your hand under her oversized shirt, and you take full advantage, mauling her sloped armour with your hand. She moans into your mouth. You take that as a sign of approval and move your hand down towards the waistband of her pants.

“W-wait!” She manages to stammer out. She pants for a moment before continuing. “Before we, you know. In my bag.” She points to the small purse she brought with her. “I have a- y’know. Today’s dangerous.” She doesn’t manage to stammer out the last bit, but you can tell what she means. The purse is sitting there, staring at you. Within arms reach.

> Grab the purse.

You don’t hesitate. You move your hand from her waistband and grab it. You pass it to Yuzu since you can’t open it in your current position who unzips the purse and pulls out the small foil-covered package.

You move to take it from her but hesitate, realising you’ve never done it before.

“Don’t worry.” She says seriously. “I practised on a banana.”

---

Insert intense handholding scene here.

---

Your positions have switched. Now you’re the one on the floor, with Yuzu lying atop you. She’s not that heavy though so you are content to lay there and try to un-blow your mind. Eventually, Yuzu rolls off you though she continues to use your arm as a pillow. She says nothing, just smiling at you. You stare back, but she’s far better at it than you.

“What?” You ask. If anything her smile gets bigger. She shuffles closer, till her head is resting on your chest.

“I’m glad it was you.” She says, very quietly. You stay silent, unable to speak but you manage to squeeze her arm tightly using the one have wrapped around her.

"And I'm glad it was you." You reply, kissing her forehead. That gets a giggle out of her, and a kiss on the cheek. You lay there a while longer before eventually; you realise you have to move.

“C’mon Yuzu, let’s go use the showers.”

“I suppose that’s the smart thing to do.” She sighs. You reluctantly stand and help and equally lazy Yuzu to do so. You grab your things and head deeper into the school.

You sneak into the baths together, where Yuzu pulls out her massive ring of keys and sneakily opens a locker full of towels. She takes one for both of you, then closes it and locks it. The two of you walk further into baths and eventually you get to the shower area.

You start to strip and watch Yuzu doing the same with half an eye.

“You’re beautiful.” You say accidentally. She smiles at the compliment and gives you a little spin.

“C’mon, Fritz let’s get this over with. I don’t want to be at school any longer than I have to.”

You shower at adjacent nozzles. The showers are communal, meaning no barriers between them. She helps you by getting bodywash on some hard to reach places on your back, and you return the favour by doing the same. Though Yuzu has to playfully slap your hand away when it travels too far down. Eventually, the two of you depart the school through the same gate you entered. Just as before, you drive faster than you have any right too. You’re soon home and after raiding the fridge for some late-night eggs, the two of you head for bed. You say nothing. Neither does Yuzu. Nothing needs to be said. You happily take your position as the big spoon and close your eyes.

You dream of citrus fruit that night.

Saturday 7th July (Day 91)

You wake up as you fell asleep – the big spoon. The position is very comfortable despite your arm being trapped under Yuzu. You’re tempted to stay there for the foreseeable future, but unfortunately, duty wins out. You lean forward and kiss the back of Yuzu’s neck. The giggle she gives you tells you she’s awake. She turns to face you. She’s still smiling.

“Good morning.” She beams at you.

“It is isn’t it?” You reply getting another laugh out of her. She smothers it in your chest, and you’re content to hold it there for a moment but eventually, you decide that you can’t spend all day lying together.

“I’ve got work to do today.” You say, resting your chin on her head.

“I do too.” She sighs. “But you’ll be free for the festival right?”

“I will.” You confirm.

“Then it’s fine.” She reluctantly breaks the hug. Yuzu rolls out of bed and moves to get changed. You watch as she does.

“Hey! No peeking!” She says looking at you accusingly.

“We showered together less than twelve hours ago?” You ask confused.

“That’s different!” She replies.

“We literally had s-“

“Different!”

You decide not to fight it, and just turn over in bed. Women. Your compliance earns you a kiss on the cheek as she leaves the bedroom. You follow her lead and get changed.

> Continue Duck and Rabbit’s acclimatisation training

You shoot a message to your crew’s group chat to get ready and come to the warehouses. There’s grumbling, but Ruby brings the others into line and informs you they’ll all be there. You then text Noriko. She replies: “As long as you bring the GUTS!” which you take as a yes. Finally, you text Azusa. Though she replies back negative.

<AppleFritz> Why not?

<Sawa-rai> If it was the M3 then I could probably convince the girls, but Saturday morning for a tank they’re not keen on is a tough ask.

<AppleFritz> Anything I can do?

<Sawa-rai> It was fun when you came with us to the mall, could you do it again tonight?

<AppleFritz> Tell them I’ll take them to the mall again after the Semi-finals.

<Sawa-rai> They’d like that. We’ll be there soon.

You put the phone down and climb out of bed. After a quick breakfast and a change of clothes, you’re on the way to the tank warehouses. After a short walk, you arrive. Your own crew is already there, lazily mounting up. Duck team are playing volleyball, except they’re using their new tank instead of the I-Go which you suppose is progress. As you arrive, the Freshmen rush you.

“Commander Hermann! Is it true you agreed to take us to the mall!?” Aya asks.

“I did.” You reply. “After the semi-finals though.”

“Sounds good to us!” Ayumi replies. The girls scurry off towards their new tank. You follow their lead and mount up on your own tank.

Duck Team 30/40 Acclimatisation
Rabbit team 36/40 Acclimatisation

It goes similarly to last time you worked with Rabbit and Duck team. Once again, you do normal drills, but at a far increased tempo. Duck team are a bit wobblier than they were last time, but they make enough progress that you’re satisfied with it. Rabbit team once again show their prowess, progressing in leaps and bounds. As far as you’re concerned, they’re not far from being as comfortable with the new tank as they were with their old one.

After training, the teams disperse. You head into the warehouse where the automotive club is tinkering with their car.

> Look into manufacturers for the Sherman upgrades

“Sup Commander?” Hoshino greets you as you walk over. “What brings you here?”

“Hey, Hoshino.” You return the greeting. “I’m going to look into manufacturers for those rocket Shermans.”

“A good idea.” She nods. “Word of advice, try to get the original producer to do it for you or if you can’t, the highest quality manufacturer you can.” She shudders. “I don’t want to imagine what might happen if we use a poorly manufactured rocket and it explodes.”

“Me neither.” You say also shuddering.

“On the other hand, it might be cheaper to get it from other manufacturers.” She pauses. “If they can produce anything that is.”

“Right, anything else?” You ask. As you prepare to walk to the kitchen.

“Yes.” You turn back around. “We can manufacture the rockets here if we buy the facilities for it. It’s costly though.”

“I’ll keep it in mind.” You promise. You walk past the automotive club and into the lounge area. You pull your laptop from your bag and get searching.

(Choose two to explore)

> Takumi. You trust his wares, and he’s been able to get exotic upgrades before.

You first decide to talk to Takumi. You know you can trust the quality of his stuff and he got you some unique upgrades while he was still your sponsor so you decide to give him a try. The phone rings twice before he picks up.

“Hey! Commander Hermann! How’s it going!?” He asks. “Business has been booming recently!”

“That’s good to hear Takumi.” You reply. “I was wondering if you could help me with something.”

“Sure thing! Hit me!” He replies.

“I’m looking for someone to manufacture some… unusual Sherman upgrades for me.” You say.

“Oh, unusual I likey. Lay it on me, Commander.”

“You ever heard of the Sherman Tulip? Or the Calliope and Whizzbang?” You ask.

“Clever Commander! Missiles! They’re legal, but everybody copies the Nishizumis who don’t bother with them!” Takumi laughs. “I assume you want to source them?”

“If you could.” You reply. He goes silent for a minute and you wait patiently. After 10 minutes, he returns to the phone.

“I can get them done for you, but it’ll cost you.”

“What doesn’t?” You reply. “Tell me what you got.” Takumi lists the upgrades he has available.

>Tulip Upgrade
(Has two missiles that can be fired. Since there’s so few, you can roll 1d100 Bo3, accuracy bonus at three tiles, any tank targeted must make a composure roll, costs 1 credit per missile) Cost 10 credits. 20% chance of a missile to fail.

>Calliope Upgrade
(Sixty missiles that can be fired, roll 1d100 per missile with a low dc, tank can be spotted at 5 tiles, costs 1 credit per 5 missiles rounded up) 30 credits 40% chance of a missile failure

“I don’t have everything, but this is what I have.” He explains.

“Alright, thanks Takumi. I’ll get back to you.” You finish. You close the call and search around for Ford Tankery Japan. It’s not difficult to find a number and you’re soon connected to their wholesale department.

>Rolled 10 (1d100)

You’re passed around through a few bottom level salesmen first and left on hold constantly. You’re about at the end of your tether when you’re passed to someone who knows what they’re doing.

“Apologies about the run-around Commander Hermann was it? I’m Jeffery Hackett. I’ve been told you’re asking about rockets for tanks?”

“That’s right.” You sigh. “Are you going to be able to help me out?”

“In fact, I can.” He replies. “I was quite surprised when I heard someone was looking for such, but rest assured it’s possible. We’ll have to dig through some old records, but if this proves successful then I’m sure it’ll go well for both of us. Excuse me a moment.”

>Tulip Upgrade

“Say, Commander Hermann. Your school is facing Pravda correct?” He asks.

“We are.” You reply. “What of it?”

“You see, the Russian government pumps money into schools such as Pravda around the world in order to boost the attractiveness of their surplus tanks. We’re authorised by a certain superpower to *ahem* incentivise bursting that bubble.”

“And what does this have to do with me?” You ask.

To clarify, this is a dick measuring contest between the United States and Russia. He’s offering you 10 credits for every tank you knock out more than you lose. E.g. if you knock out 15 and lose 10 you get 50 credits.

So what are we going to do with this tank? I'm in favor of giving it to Mallard team. Other than Shark, they're in the least capable tank on the team at the moment. There's also some bad blood between us that we should resolve at some point. That gives us 3 tanks to swap or sell (if the rabbits and ducks allow it).

They might need to pull in another member of the N-Fun Gang, because they are 2 people short. Otherwise Shark team has the members to crew it but might be attached to their tank

“Excellent, we’ll begin manufacturing immediately. You should receive it within two weeks.”

“You can’t get it for me before the match?” You ask.

“I’m afraid not.” Hackett laughs. “Perhaps if you’d asked us a week ago, but these things take time Commander.”

“Of course.” You reply. “Thanks for your help.”

“Anytime Commander.” He hangs up, and you put the phone down.

> Help plan Yukari’s infiltration of Pravda

Yukari’s house is a short walk away. As you walk, you give her a call.

“Hey, Commander! What’s up!?” She chirps.

“Hi Yukari, I was wondering if you were planning to infiltrate Pravda.” You reply.

“That depends on your opinion on the matter.” She says carefully.

“My opinion is that we need to plan it properly.” You reply.

“Oh yeah! Then I definitely am!” She says. “Miss Nishizumi, my crew and the council are planning it right now!”

“Where are you?” You ask.

“We’re in the Council office!” You promptly turn around.

“I’ll be there shortly.” You cut the call and turn around. A couple of minutes later you arrive at the school.

You enter the office and see the Student Council and Anglerfish team arranged around the President’s desk.

“Hey, guys.” You greet as you enter getting a chorus of hellos and a squeeze of the hand from Yuzu. “How’s the planning going?”

“It’s going well!” Yukari answers. “But we’re stuck on a key aspect of the plan!”

“What is it? Maybe I can help.” You say. You move closer to the desk and see it’s a giant map of Pravda’s school carrier.

“We were wondering how I should infiltrate the school!” Yukari replies. “If I use the supply ships, I can get in pretty easily, but I won’t be able to stay in contact with you guys. On the other hand, we could infiltrate via helicopter since the first of the student pilots are ready! But that means I have less time to look around.”

“Stick with a supply ship insertion.” You recommend. “Perhaps we won’t be able to guide you, but you’ll be able to stick around longer and find out more.”

“Sounds like a plan!” Anzu chimes in. “We’ll have the helicopter ready with a SAR loadout anyway, so any problems, just activate that handy transponder you have and we’ll be over in a jiffy!”

“Yes ma’am.” Yukari salutes. “I won’t disappoint you all!”

“We know you won’t Yukarin!” Saori cheers.

“You got this Yukari.” You nod. The rest of Anglerfish team, sans a sleeping Mako, also chime in their support for Yukari!”

“R-right! I’ll find out everything there is to know!” Yukari asserts. You spend another couple minutes chatting with Anglerfish and the Student Council before the President intervenes.

“Okay! Today was productive! Now get out my office and go enjoy the festival before I make you all clean the warehouses!” You turn to Yuzu, who smiles apologetically.

“You head home and get ready. I’ll just finish up here then come join you.” She says.

“Don’t take too long.” You murmur before leaving. You head home and change out of your tankery uniform into something more appropriate for going out and about. You can also see signs that Erika’s been here given your fridge is devoid of the food you’d pre-cooked for breakfast and your bed is a mess. About half an hour later, Yuzu appears.

“Sorry about that.” She smiles. “Let’s go.” You take her hand, and the two of you walk to the disembarkation point.

“The schoolship is docked in Sendai today,” Yuzu explains. “They have the biggest festival in all of Japan! So, it’s pretty lucky we managed to get a slot at the port.”

“I see.” You reply. “So, it’s just like any other festival?” You ask.

“Yep! Though at the end we get to do Tanzaku, which is writing a wish on a little piece of paper and tying it to bamboo. Then at midnight, the bamboo is set afloat.” You nod along, struggling to keep up with all the information.

“Anything else?” You ask.

“Nope!” She giggles. “Now we have fun!”

> Gawk at the decorations and buy shiny trinkets

“Since this is your first Tanabata, how about we go look at the decorations in the outdoor mall?” Yuzu suggests.

“Sounds fine to me.” You reply. The two of you walk hand in hand towards the mall. The city is packed, streets bustling with activity as people move around to take in all that the city has to offer. You unashamedly act like a tourist. You stop to look every time you see something interesting such as the paper lanterns hanging from the streetlights or a puppet show being performed for little kids. You eventually make it to the mall. Just as with outside it is packed. The only difference is the mall has stalls either side of the street, filled with merchants hawking their wares. On second thought, hawking is too vulgar a word given how respectful the stall keepers are, regardless of the noise they’re making.

You’re content to lean back against a wall for a moment and observe the crowd as they walk through all the streamers. Yuzu is content to stand beside you. However, your wall-leaning is interrupted when you notice a certain stall.

> An artist doing decent cheap drawings

Your eyes are drawn to an artist sitting at an easel sketching furiously. You watch as several people take turns to sit in front of him and get a sketch of themselves and from what you can see of the sketches as well as the drawings, he has on display around him, they’re pretty good.

“Hey, Yuzu.” You get your girlfriend’s attention. “Why don’t we go get our portraits done?”

“For when we’re rich and famous?” She giggles. “Sure! Let’s do it.” You wait in line for about fifteen minutes and in that time, he manages to draw three groups of people to a high standard.

“Good evening Sir! Madam! Here to get your portrait drawn yes?”

“We are.” You confirm.

“Good, good! You sit Sir! And put Madam on your lap.” You sit on the stool as instructed, with Yuzu sitting on your left leg facing inwards. Both of you look at the artist and do your best to hold the position.

“Could you do two?” Yuzu asks. The man gives a barely perceptible nod and continues drawing. Not seven minutes later, he presents you both with A3 portraits of yourselves.

“They good yes?” He asks. He doesn’t wait for your confirmation and passes you a small flyer. “Here website! Put code on the back of portrait in and you can buy different sizes!” That seems pretty cool, so you thank the man, pay him and take the flyer. With your portraits rolled up carefully, the two of you take to the streets.

Your stomach rumbles. Yuzu laughs.

“How about we get something to eat hmm?” She guides you towards the food area of the market. “I know you like to eat, so go wild!” You take a moment to look around at what’s on offer.

You’re stuck between the Honey pork and the Octopus for a moment, but then you have a realisation: you don’t have to pick. You first move towards the pork stand. The queue is long, but it moves quickly and you acquire your skewer. As you queue for the Octopus you nibble on the pork. It tastes pretty good. The octopus queue also moves quickly and you find yourself with another skewer. This one, however, was a small bready ball filled with octopus and some vegetables. You return to Yuzu, who has acquired some dumplings.

“That looks nice.” She says pointedly looking at your octopus. You get the hint and offer the stick to her. Instead of taking it, she leans down and eats one of the balls off the stick. “Tasty.” She declares before offering you a dumpling in return.

With nothing better to do at the moment, the two of you meander back towards toward the port. Unfortunately, you can’t hold hands this time because of your food, but the food is an adequate if not perfect substitute. You arrive at the port as you finish your food.

“Fritz come on!” Yuzu tugs at your arm. You chuck the wooden skewers into a nearby bin and allow yourself to be dragged along. You find yourself in front of a little stall with the tanzaku you’ve seen hanging around the place. Yuzu hands the man some coins and picks up two.

“You’re meant to write a wish on these,” Yuzu explains. “Then we hang them and at midnight they’re burnt.”

She hands you a pencil too and you stand there, poised and ready to write.

> A quiet life with a big family.

You make to write Argentina, but think the better of it. Instead, you scribble down 'A quiet life with a big family' on your tanzaku. You see Yuzu do the same. As you do, both of your phones buzz. Yuzu pulls out her phone and scans the message.

“Ah perfect!” She smiles. “C’mon, follow me!” She takes your hand and pulls you along behind her.

“We get the same message?” You ask.

“Yep! It was the president!” She says. “The Sensha-Dō team is going to meet up!”

“Oh, okay.” You continue to allow yourself to be dragged behind her. A few moments later, you arrive. It’s a small open courtyard. In the middle is a massive tree, with several different pieces of bamboo hung from it, each with several tanzaku hanging from it. What’s more important, however, is the people there. The entire Sensha-Dō team is present. You spot Anglerfish team and your own together close to the tree and Rabbit team running between the different pieces of bamboo to examine the wishes. The rest of the teams are scattered around the courtyard.

You move to the bamboo on the tree and tie your tanzaku to the tree. Yuzu does the same. You strain your eyes to read what she wrote. You don’t catch much but you do see ‘family’ written on there.

Yuzu spends a minute to look at all the tanzaku, then turns to you and smiles. “I’m going to find Prez and Momo-chan, will you be fine by yourself for a little bit?”

“I’m sure I’ll be fine when the vast majority of my friends are here.” You reply. “Go, have fun.” She gives you a kiss and skips off to find her friends.

> Go over to Anglerfish team and your crew

You decide to head to your crew too. You see Ruby and Hana off to the side. When they see you looking, you get a wave from Hana and a smile from Ruby. More alarmingly, you see Max and Leo talking with Saori in a similar manner. It seems that in the course of their punishment the three became friends. You don’t think there’s any way that can be a good thing. You eventually reach Miho, Yukari, Mako and Axel who are deep in discussion. Or as deep as you can be when one member doesn’t talk, and another is asleep.

“Commander Hermann!” Yukari cheers. “Are you enjoying the festival?”

“I’ve had a lot of fun today.” You confirm. “And you lot?”

“I think we definitely had fun today, didn’t we Yukari?” Miho asks.

“We definitely did Miss Nishizumi!” Yukari nods. You spend a good amount of time talking to Miho and Yukari. Eventually, it reaches midnight. You watch as the girls excitedly pull down the bamboo. You and Axel use your height to assist them, and you pull down all the Tanzaku from the tree. Eventually, it comes time to burn them. You watch as the girls one by one throw them into the bonfire. You do the same, chucking the coloured paper in. You watch as it burns, the wind carrying away the ashes. Hopefully to someone who can answer them…

You end up having to carry Erika home. For a fifteen-year-old she behaves closer to five sometimes, having spent all the time she was within eyesight of you charging around the courtyard playing some kind of game with the Freshmen. As you reembark the schoolship, you do however get a mumbled thank you from her which is good enough for you.

When you get home, you pull off her shoes and chuck her on the bed. Erika does the rest peeling off her overclothes and putting on a shirt you threw at her before promptly turning over and going to sleep. You follow her lead and climb into bed.

Sunday 8th July (Day 92)

You wake up early that morning. As she usually does, Erika has latched herself onto your back. Otto is also around, though you only know because you can hear him sprinting around the apartment. You check your phone and see a couple of messages on your phone. One is your usual back and forth with Koume, but one is from Darjeeling. It reads as follows.

Dear Vice-Commander Hermann of Ōoarai.

I am writing today in order to invite yourself and Commander Nishizumi of Ōoarai to a tea party on Tuesday 10th July, after your match with Pravda. It has been tough to convice the alumni to invite outsiders into the tea garden, but we have managed to do so. Please feel free to bring a guest with you when you come.

Yours truly,
Orange Pekoe on behalf of Commander Darjeeling.

You add the event to your calendar and climb out of bed. As you do, you also note that apparently a package has arrived for you.

> Collect your package

You decide it’s best to first to collect whatever package has arrived for you. You get showered and get changed. You walk back into the bedroom and see Erika still fast asleep.

“Oi sleepyhead.” You poke her in the ribs. “Wake up.” She groans and pulls the blanket over her head. “I got a package; it might be from home.” You tease her. That gets her attention and she turns towards you and pulls down the blanket and groans.

“You done?” You ask after thirty straight seconds of groaning.

“Yes.” She replies simply. She rolls out of bed and walks to the bathroom. She emerges several minutes later and demolishes the breakfast you set out. Once you’re done, the two of you leave for the mailroom. You decide to take your bike given it’s further than you usually walk. You also haven’t had much opportunity to take her for a spin. Erika certainly doesn’t object, pulling out her helmet with massive cat ears.

Several minutes later you pull up outside the staircase down to the interior of the ship. You park your bike and stow your helmets then head inside. The mailroom is womaned by the same bored student from last time.

“Fritz Hermann here to collect a package.” You say. She barely casts an eye your way, jerking her finger behind her where a large package is sitting.

There’s a letter attached to it. You open it and read it, Erika on her tiptoes to look with you.

Fritz.

We managed to decode that journal, and it gave us the recipe for something yourself and your team might enjoy.

It seems the shell you picked up was not a normal tank round but was actually an experimental HESH round. Naturally, we tried to make more and attached to this letter are our efforts. Unfortunately, they are difficult to make so we can only make about five a month. Please keep us updated on their effectiveness.

Director Raths.

P.S. We have already cleared these with the Panzerfahren Federation for you.

Upon finishing the letter, Erika yanks open the box. As mentioned, five 88 millimetre HESH rounds sit there. You think quickly, as far as you can remember yourself, the Jagdpanzer and the Tiger P all have 88 millimetre main guns.

> HESH Round – Works based on a chemical penetrator rather than Kinetic. No long range penetration penalty and adds +1 to penetration dc for every 2 squares more than 4 it travels

You jot down who gets what and stick it to the box. You then turn to the woman at the desk.

“Can you send this to the Sensha-Dō warehouses?” She looks at you with such an eclectic mix of apathy and rage you’re scared for your life for a moment.

“Sure.” She grumbles the first word you’ve heard of her. You and Erika quickly make your exit.

“She was scary.” Erika whispers. You can’t help but agree.

>Assist Yukari's infiltration

You head to the President’s office, the impromptu war room. The ride is short. Erika and you dismount and walk to Anzu’s office. You enter and see the same people as last time. Most of Anglerfish team is splayed out across the sofas in the corner and the Student council, sans the President, are hard at work. Miho and the President are sitting at the desk. In front of them is the same blueprint from yesterday.

“Hey girls.” You greet as you walk in. You get several hellos and waves from the girls spread across the room. “How’s it going?” You ask.

“We don’t know.” Anzu shrugs. “Not till she calls for extraction or returns to school.”

“We’ll see I guess.” You reply.

Interesting. I don’t know what to do for the crit given you don’t really need more rolls…

You spend about an hour there, just relaxing with Anglerfish team and the Student Council waiting for anything from Yukari. Then Miho’s phone chimes.

“Oh! That’s Yukari’s transponder!” She says. “That means she needs a pick up!” You look at Miho’s phone and see the location is in the middle of the sea.

“We’d best get moving.” You say. Anzu phones one of the Student Pilots and tells them what’s up. Yourself, Erika and Anglerfish Team all speed walk to the warehouses where the huey is spinning up. You hop in, making sure to push Erika’s head down so she doesn’t get an impromptu haircut. Once you’re all mounted, the helicopter lifts off.

About half an hour later, you find Yukari. Ōoarai and Pravda weren’t too far apart meaning that Yukari also isn’t that far.

“She’s over there!” Saori calls, pointing out the left door. You rush to it and see a raft carrying a very familiar floof.

The helicopter hovers atop Yukari. The winch from the search and rescue kit slowly lowers a rope and harness down to Yukari who clips herself on then signals to be pulled up.

“Hello everyone! Good thing we bought a helicopter right!?” Yukari greets.

“What happened?” You ask.

“I had to make a rapid exit!” She replies not explaining anything. “But I found out a lot!”

“When we get back.” You reply. Yukari nods and sits back.

45 minutes later, you’ve arrived back home and you’re all in the student council office.

“So, Akiyama, tell us what you learnt.” The President says.

“Of course!” Yukari says. “This is a list of their tanks!” She pulls out a scrap of paper. “And this!” She pulls out a map and begins making markings. “Is their plan!”

You look over the list of tanks first.

“ISU-152s” Miho murmurs. You agree with her worry, those things are deadly to any tank Ōoarai has. Even Werewolf.

“Can you explain their plan Yukari?” You ask. She shakes her head.

“I was able to get this, but there was no briefing to explain it. We’ll have to examine it later.” She replies.

“I’ll go over it tomorrow.” Miho promises. You make a note to go over it with her.

The meeting adjourns there, and everyone begins to file out. You decide it’s time to broach the subject of machine spirits. First, though, you have to decide on who to discuss it with.
