Your name is Sean Clayton, aka Adjutant Tango, aka Gunsmoke. After rifling through the box of goodies you swiped from Rockwell’s cult, you discovered an ominous letter and shared its contents with Jack. Later, while attempting to learn Greek, you stumbled ass-backwards into accidentally reciting an ancient Greek incantation, summoning some kind of divine avenger that attempted to pull you through a portal. Thankfully, you managed to avoid its grasp. Shortly afterward, you accepted a contract from Marshall, Carter, and Dark to join up with one of the local factions and help tip the balance of power in the favor. The purpose? To spark a gang war for reasons considered above your pay grade. To that end, you got Cortez’s aid for an introduction to Bane’s militia. After meeting one of Bane’s lieutenants, Bird, and impressing him in a trial by combat, you earned entrance into the group as well as a personal meeting with Bane. Your first job in Bane’s militia was nearly derailed by Penguin’s goons, whom you sent packing after implicitly threatening to blow them to kingdom come.> Hello everyone, and welcome to yet another issue of DC: Henchman Quest! Currently, you’re preparing to get some rest, while making idle chatter with Jack.“So how did your excursion go, Sean?”> “Meh. It was pretty boring. A few of Penguin’s gang to tried to cause some trouble, but I managed to scare them off.”“Doing some work for Bane, eh? Interesting fellow. We don’t exactly run in the same circles, but once you’ve been in this business long enough, rumors always float to the surface.”> “Do tell.”“From what I’ve heard, he’s no meathead. Underneath all that muscle is a ruthless and sharpened mind. Underestimate him at your peril, Sean. I’ve also heard murmurs that he and that walking cliché Cobblepot have a particular distaste for one another, but I have no idea why. Lastly, he doesn't suffer betrayal lightly. A few years back, he caught one of his lieutenants skimming from a few operations. It……..wasn’t pretty. You’ll be fine, so long as you keep your head on straight. Anyways, goodnight.”> “Night, Jack.”After a dreamless sleep, you find yourself with some free time. They get a lot of rich assholes looking to watch somebody get their head stomped in, so their security is good. Here’s how the tournament works. There are two different brackets. Meta and normal. Metas can only fight in the Meta bracket, but anyone without powers can fight in either bracket. Keeps things from being too lopsided.Grand prize for the normal bracket is some kind of fancy gadget. They usually keep the prize for the Meta bracket a secret, but it’s always something valuable.”> “You, uh, don’t know what the normal prize is?”“I’m here to fight. Eventually, she’s weakened him to the point where she can deliver a gracefully executed kick to Shrike’s throat. While he’s busy trying to learn to breathe again, she puts him out of commission with a nasty strike to the back of the head.“Winner, Double Dare!”Once again she shows off a little for the crowd, and blows a few kisses, before exiting the ring.A couple of the guards help carry Shrike out.“Next up, are numbers 1 and 5! There’s three contenders remaining last I checked, between Double Dare, Lady Vic, and us, so is it gonna be some sort of free-for-all? Tell me, what can I do for you, Gunsmoke?” She places a teasing emphasis on your name. Now for the sales pitch.> “I came to make you an offer. As the finals are going to be a free-for-all, I wanted to work with you to defeat Lady Vic.”“Does the mighty Gunsmoke feel so little confidence in his skills?” She says in a mocking tone.> “No, I’m certain I can do this with or without your support. It would be helpful, but I’ll win regardless.” You state confidently.“Hmmm….. and once she is defeated?”> “Then we settle this ourselves.”She thinks for a moment, and regards you in a new light, taking you seriously for possibly the first time.“We have an accord.”> “Good. I’ll see you in the ring.”As you head back to your seat, the now-named Aliki whispers something into her sister’s ear that you can’t quite make out. Whatever it is, it’s enough to make them both laugh.> (TBC)

>>4012144>Xenothium... whats that?
>>4012144> FINThat's all for tonight folks! I've got a few announcements to make. I will NOT be able to run next week, as college is starting up once again, and I want to get my schedule confirmed before having a session.Next, chances are that our Tues / Thurs schedule will no longer be feasible, so I'll let everyone know what the updated session calendar will be.Lastly, I'll be around for a while to answer questions, handle concerns, and for everyone to mock my poor understanding of English.Have a good evening!
>>4012144>XenothiumI hear that stuff is dangerous. And unstable.
>>4012156BAD BAD JUJU
>>4012156It's a highly unstable compound known for its high energy output and destructive qualities. If you ever watched Teen Titans, it powered Red X's suit. Pretty baller, a vial of the stuff could do serious damage to the city.
>>4012144>XenothiumOh, that’s....cool, I guess? Not really useful to us though. Maybe we can sell it to someone or something.>>4012156It’s basically an incredibly powerful, incredibly unstable chemical compound. Cool stuff, but, eh, not really useful to us, unless we can find some tech whizz to make us something powered with it, like a gun or a super suit. Unless Apokoliptian stuff is compatible with it or something.
>>4012168>>4012166Lets drink it
>>4012177CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG!
>>4012177I know it sort of looks like Koolaid anon, but it would probably melt us from the inside out if we tried to ingest it, so let’s not. The stuff isn’t even radioactive anyways, so I doubt there’d be any chance of us getting Captain Atom powers or something like that.
>>4012177>Drinking it>Not injecting it into Bane's ass like a true bro in the locker room before his fight with Batman.I no longer want to see just a big guy, I want to see a HUGE guy.
>>4012161Thanks for the session, Axis. Too bad about not running next week, but real life comes first. Out of curiosity, any particular reason Xenothium was the prize? Do you have some specific ideas or plans for it? Or did you just roll a dice on a table of weird DC tech and chemicals and Xenothium was the one you landed on?
>>4012177>>4012188>>4012196>>4012212I have to admit, I spent a fair amount of time attempting to envision how the anons would react. I am both unsurprised and shocked at the same time.
>>4012223I meant this as a joke, I am sorry for this, I had to much faith in my fellow man.
>>4012223Support for drinking the most forbidden coolaid around
>>4012219I picked Xenothium for a handful of different reasons. I wanted a good prize, something worth all of the effort, but not something incredibly overpowered. It also couldn't be something ultra-amazing, given the caliber of your opponents.I also wanted something that has some versatility to it, let the anons have a say. Despite all of the memeing, the anons do have genuinely cool ideas sometimes. For the future, I have a few plans in mind. You’ve got 2 vials, so you’ll basically be able to modify / construct 2 different things. You’ll have several options ranging from integrating it into your weapons and / or armor, to having it be the power source for something massive, to just building a nasty bomb. Creativity is the limit.Plus, it's a nice callback to Teen Titans.(If you fuckers actually choose to drink this, I will let you. The consequences of your decisions will rain down upon you.)
>>4012246>(If you fuckers actually choose to drink this, I will let you. The consequences of your decisions will rain down upon you.)Is that a promise?
>>4012246I’m definitely going to make a joke write-in when we get to ask Blockbuster what it is next session.> So do I, like, drink it, or...?That aside, cool. Guess we’ll need to find someone that can actually work with the stuff, but we can probably do something cool with it. Maybe we can work it into our suit, make it shoot beams or teleport or project a force field or something like that. Though I guess we’d need to find someone that could work with both Apokoliptian tech and Xenothium then. Doubt we’re going to build a bomb or giant death ray or something with it, anyways, we’re not quite that hammy. So would we need to find more of it to replenish whatever tech we have built with it’s supplies every once in a while? I seem to remember the stuff running out in the show.
>>4012265I never lie, anon. Except for when I do.Seriously, though. I will let you make terrible choices if that is what you truly desire.>>4012268I might force you to steal some every now and then, but it definitely won't be a regular occurrence.
>>4012277Fair enough. So uh, how tough is it gonna be to find someone that can actually, y’know, do anything with Xenothium? Are we going to need to kidnap some scientist? Or can we just ring up a supervillain genius like Lex or whoever and pay them (Or do some work for them or whatever) to whip something up?
>>4012292It won't be too complicated. A few of your contacts might know someone who could help.
>>4012295Alright, sounds good. One last question before I stop badgering you. I don’t suppose our unarmed skills saw any improvement as a result of us running a gauntlet of significantly more skilled opponents? (Besides Double Dare anyways)
>>4012295Would there be a chance of anything good happening if we chose to drink the Xenothium?
>>4012307You make a fair point. Give some time to determine what the improvement should be.Also, you're not badgering me. I enjoy answering questions. I keeps me honest, and it feels good knowing that players are invested.>>4012313This question worries me. There will be a very small chance of a positive effect, if you choose to drink it. You animals.
>>4012313Probably be like drinking kerosene. You can. But it won't really help you out. Giving it to a fantastic chemist to make a HOT NEW ENERGY DRINK though might be viable. A little bit of chemical engineering can make some crazy shit. I half expect Bane's VENOM to be a mixture of sulfuric acid and glowstick juice.
>>4012328>There will be a very small chance of a positive effect, if you choose to drink it. You animals.Axis you fool! You’ve fallen victim to one of the classic questing blunders: Telling anons that there’s a possibility, however impossibly slim, of a stupid act benefiting them somehow. We’re never going to be able to convince them not to drink the most dangerous koolaid now.
>>4012345I realized my mistake almost immediately, but I'll never admit it.
>>4012339Giving a sample of it to some genius chemist and seeing if they can fumble their way into a super serum could be one viable usage of the stuff, I guess. Better then just popping the cap and chugging the stuff or pouring it into a bottle of vodka or whatever crazy shit the anons would come up with otherwise, at any rate. Get some Hourman-style drug out of it, if we’re lucky, or maybe even something long-term, since the stuff seems to have a pretty crazy shelf-life. Maybe we can give some to Bane, wean him off of venom. Anything that makes your veins glow green can’t be terribly healthy.
>>4012375>tfw we give it to bane>he uses his connections and wealth to get some bigshot underground chemist>it ends up creating basically turbo-adrenaline so powerful it seems to slow down time>then Judge Dredd throws us out of the fiftieth story window while we are high on it

>>4012375>>4012410This is now DC: Expensive Cocktail Connoisseur Quest
>>4012427Meh. I was debating a title change anyway. The whole "magic" stuff kinda through my OG plans in the trash.
>>4012405We could probably use one of the vials to give our Apokoliptian armour some upgrades, yeah. Would be at least one good use of a vial. Otherwise up in the air on what we use the other one for. I guess we could upgrade the carbine, but we barely ever use it so it’d feel like a bit of a waste. Seeing if we could get some sort of super serum made could be fun as well, though there’s no way to know for sure if Xenothium’s actually usable in that manner. We aren’t really the “Create a giant bomb/death ray to blow up Gotham” type, so that’s obviously out. Can’t think up much else, besides just pawning it off for cash or something with more obvious uses for us, like some magical knowledge or artifacts.
>>4012435Eh, we’re still nominally a henchmen who does stuff for other people so we can get paid, so I think the title’s pretty applicable. Doubt we’re going to go solo or whatever anytime soon, I don’t think running some sort of crime syndicate or cabal or what have you would particularly appeal to Sean. He seems more the thrill-seeker type that likes getting his hands dirty.
>>4012401Actually this reminds me, Judge Dredd was a DC property at one point. And he tussled with Batman. And also Alien and Predator. Which that also reminds me that Batman tussled with them. Comics are wild, man.
>>4012472I actually have several of those comics. Predator vs. Judge Dredd was a ride.Nowhere near the quality of Archie vs. Predator though.
>>4012484One of the covers of Archie v Predator has the titular alien drinking a S T R A W B E R R Y M I L K S H A K E. There is little that can contest such a thing.I never actually read it. I don't have the balls.
Maybe we should use this Xenothiumas an ingredient for our own brand of energy drinks. It's genius, since energy drink companies alreadyput questionable regents and chemicals in those drinks anyway.Though, we do have to make it safe enough for human consumption first.Wouldn't wanna army of lawsuits coming our way the nanosecond we put our drinks out.
>>4012669Nah you just put a disclaimer on the can stating that it isn't an energy drink but is in fact a gasoline alternative.
If all else fails, we can always try to sell it.
...what if, we incorporated it into the Claw of Horus.

>>4012878I thought about it, but didn’t think it’d be worth risking it. Magic and science...don’t tend to mix well in DC, generally speaking. Worst case scenario, we use up the Xenothium applying some upgrades to the Claw while it’s summoned (If we can even take it off our hand, I don’t actually remember us ever trying to), and the minute we unsummon it it returns to it’s original state, completely wasting the vial. >>4022609>>4022411I am sorry for having started the drink it votes, but I do not regret having done it.
>>4022609we should ask our friends at the Firm if they have any intel regarding some stark powered armor. barring that, might see if they're interested in a vial and what they would pay us. if we drink the stuff we're probably going to be rolling for a crit success vs instadeath
>>4022667I for one. Look forward to drinking the red goo
Drink the goo.
>>4023295>>4022609I honestly doubt we'll die from drinking it, even if we critfail, we've always had the option to re-roll a failure, and it's unlikely we'd critfail twice in a row tempting fate hereIt's in Axis' best interest to try and avoid killing the character off as much as possible since he's as much a part of this game as we are unless he really wants to stop so permadeath would mean it's over and all the effort was just wasted. Not doubting the consequences won't be ridiculously heavy - and permanent - if we fail though. As for anons wanting to drink the red alien ooze? Chalk it up to pic related
>>4023933Pretty sure we can only reroll the dice once per mission, so unless you want to do it in the middle of a mission, (Other then this one, since we’ve already used it up) I don’t think we’ll get to reroll if our roll results are shit.
>>4023933It's a dick move to take suicidal actions knowing the QM will want to keep the character alive so the quest doesn't end.He could always give us a permanent malady too. Imagine that +30 melee bonus dropping to -30 instead.
>>4024210I agree with thisHow about we let the drink joke just be that,a joke, and not do a really dumb decision? Can we all agree with that?
>>4024263>tfw favourite quest potentially ends because “LEL LETS DRINK ECKSPLOSIVE ;P”
>>4024475>JUST PUT ON THE MASK GUYS>WHAT CAN GO WRONG>HEY LETS SET THE BAR ON FIRE>WHAT CAN GO WRONGAh the good old days of stupid shit and bad decisions.
Rolled 32 (1d100)>>4023295Let's see how that would go
>>4024210Yeah. Ok. That COULD happen! ooorrrr... It could give us a +30 Melee modifier ON TOP OF the Melee modifier. It could give us ALL THE POWERS! All we need tomdo is. just. Drink it.
>>4024475>favorite questThanks, anon! I know this probably sounds really superficial, but it means a lot to hear that.By the way, as I previously mentioned for anyone wondering if QM is kill, no runs this week. Gotta reintegrate back into college life.In the meantime, feel free to ask me any questions or whatever about questing, or about any topic you might be interested in.
>>4025442It's everything goes right, how long will it be until we see Jack off to the great beyond?
>>4025447Not for a while. I'm envisioning at least 2-4 more major artifact collections before that particular resolution.
>>4025406Or it could turn or bones to jelly and melt our internal organs. In fact, I’d bet on there being a significantly higher chance of that happening then of us getting superpowers out of it, let alone useful ones. >>4025442Out of curiosity, is the Court situation going to resolve itself organically in the near future, or are we going to have to stick our head into it personally if we want the ominous owl-shaped shadow looming over us dealt with any time soon? Because I mean, they’ve probably got some sweet magical loot, but on the other hand, that one guy ran a gauntlet of Nightwing and Batman, so not really sure I want to poke that particular bee hive and have our ass kicked. I guess we could ring up Batgirl in our Jonah Thema alias and get some help dealing with them? But I feel like Batman would confiscate all the cool magical goodies if we did that.
>>4025562I've got a few plans regarding the Court, but there will be many different ways of handling it.
>>4025562Yeah, I feel it would be like drinking car battery acid.>>4025442Which DC characters are your favorite?
>>4025614Cool, looking forward to it. I've got one more question, this one regarding the mechanics, particularly with regards to unarmed combat. So, just to clarify, I seem to remember you saying that you were dividing up the previous general unarmed skill into different styles, which conferred different bonuses to different types of attacks depending the style practiced, in our case MCMAP (Because of our military background). This correct?
>>4025894That's the long and short. Figured it would add some spice, but I might roll it back if it gets too cumbersome.>>4025748Depends on the incarnation. I generally like Red Hood, Mr. Freeze, Raven, Captain Cold, Black Manta, Blackfire, Reverse Flash, and a smattering of others. I generally like the DC villains more than the heroes, they've usually got a bit more personality to them.By the way, according to canon, the Atlantean language is derived from Ancient Greek. Interpret that statement as you will.
>>4025907Okay, I was just sort of wondering how that...works, I guess? Like, is it a stacking bonus, for example if we picked up boxing and got up to whatever level gives a +10 in unarmed with it, would it combine with our MCMAP to give us a +30 when striking? Or is it more of a singular unstackable bonus, with different styles conferring bonuses to different types of attacks? If it’s the former then I feel like that would kind of snowball out of control (Especially with characters like Batman or Bane who have supposedly mastered 10+ martial arts and developed their own styles on top of that), and if it’s the latter, I’m not really sure why we’d pick up anything else. MCMAP apparently confers bonuses to holds, strikes, environmental attacks and throws, which...kind of covers everything I think, unless there’s a style out there that lets us shoot Hadoukens or fly or something.
>>4025907>>Atlantean language is derived from Ancient Greek.Oh, boy
>>4025934I planned on it being a stacking bonus. My reasoning being that training one style to perfection will take quite a while, so it could be better to supplement it by mixing a few others. A more specialized martial arts style may provide a large boost to only one type of attack. As I mentioned, if it gets out of control / gets too unwieldy, I'll roll it back a little or just throw harder shit at you.
>>4025442I don't think it's superficial because you put a lot of effort into this. Does Nightwing know we are around right now?
>>4025959Excellent question! Also, a convenient way for me to demonstrate how actions may have unintended consequences.Due to your.....handling of Batgirl and Robin, Nightwing is currently in Gotham, helping to keep things stable with the Batfamily down a few hands. Otherwise, he could've interfered in this event.
>>4025953Hm, right on. Guess picking up training in a few specialized martial arts like Judo, Jiu-jitsu or Boxing while slowly working on our MCMAP basis is the way to go. Maybe we could see about finding Enforcer for that, he’s a good bit more skilled in it then we are. Could probably interact with Bane for the more specialized ones, since he apparently knows a bunch of them. Not sure how we’d convince him to teach us though.
>>4025969Him losing us thanks to the bar gave me a good laugh. Must have been embarrassing reporting it back to Bats.
>>4025969Given that fighting tournament and those crazy DC rolls, what would you estimate adding fighting batman unarmored without his gadgets and shit with Sean as he is right now? And both Sean and him with Gadgets. Are we like, nightwing tier or something or do we have a long ways to go?I would recommend we also brush up on Urban warfare tactics and strategy rather than being a particularly strong mook who can cast magic.
>>4025953I'd recommend a weighted stack OP. Something like first style adds 100% of bonus but second adds only 50, third adds 25, fourth adds 20, fifth and on add 10. Still incentive to learn multiple without getting preposterously out of hand.
when is the next session?
>>4027181It’s probably going to be some time, since Axis is off for the week to get back into the swing of college.
Greetings all, sorry for the delay.>>4026572In pure hand-to-hand? He'd wipe the floor with you. If you were fully armed and went all out? It would be very, very difficult. In a straight unarmed fight, you'd likely lose to Nightwing at this stage, but if you leveraged some of your other skills, you could give him a challenge. This thread looks like it'll be dying soon, so I'll probably post the next scheduled session time on the Pastebin over the weekend.
>>4029643Where do Gotham city sirens stand compared to Sean? Hand to hand wise
>>4030031You could probably beat Harley if you can get a few good shots, but her agility would make it tricky.Catwoman would be harder, for similar reasons as above.Poison Ivy wouldn't be too hard, but it's not like you're going to have a straight fight with her. You gotta deal with the pheromones, the plants, and any brainwashed mooks she has around.
If you're still looking for suggestions on hand to hand.I would suggest having having a single unarmed skill, but individual styles act as perks that can add bonii in certain situations. With additional mastery in a specific style improving said perk.Like BJJ addning bonii to ground fighting or Muay Thai giving you a bonus to crippling someone.
