Your name is Sean Clayton, aka Adjutant Tango, aka Gunsmoke. After walking into the belly of the beast that was the HQ of the Arcane Research Society, your cover was blown by their leader; Dr. Phineas Rockwell. After soundly defeating his cultists and killing Rockwell himself, Rockwell came back as a horrific creature of unknown origins. You proceeded to exterminate him with extreme prejudice. However, your attempts at looting were interrupted by Batgirl, who you thankfully managed to throw off your trail. Eventually, you found your way to the Oblivion Bar, where you caroused with Jack and Bobo (otherwise known as Detective Chimp).> Hello everyone, and welcome to yet another issue of DC: Henchman Quest! As always, I’m AxisQM and I hope you all enjoy! I’m still a rookie QM, so I may tinker with the systems at times to see if something could work better.Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/SiZQYLaULink to Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/3932255/Link to Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=HenchmanFuck, your head hurts.Whatever you drank last night hit you like a truck. You’re no alcoholic, but you’re no lightweight neither, and it laid you out hard. You’ve got a pretty bad hangover, but you’ve handled worse. Maybe if you keep telling yourself that, it might even be true.“Good morning, Sean.”You are treated to the rather hilarious image of Jack holding an icepack up to his invisible face.“As you can see, nobody escaped our revelling unscathed.”> “I didn’t think that ghosts could get hangovers. How does that even work?”“I’ve learned to avoid questioning it anymore. Anyways, I’ve got some breakfast cooking. We’ll talk business while we eat.”A few minutes later, after you fully rouse yourself from your drunken stupor, you are treated to a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, courtesy of Jack’s culinary abilities. As you ravenously chow down, you take breaks to explain how your investigation went.Jack listens intently as you explain the results of your mission, and shudders when you mention what Rockwell turned into.“Excellent work as always, Sean. I’m a bit concerned about some of the things you’ve mentioned, but I suppose that it doesn’t matter anymore. I’ve taken the liberty of moving that box you were carrying to your room. Figured that you probably wanted to have a look through your spoils.”> “Thanks, Jack.”As you check your pockets, you find a piece of paper with the message “call me” and a phone number scribbled inside.Since Jack has indicted today is most likely a free day, you can do whatever you please. You decide to: (Choose 2) > Check out your rightfully looted books. > Call the number. > Practice a spell (Specify which).> Learn a new spell (Specify Nature)> Other?(Bat-Report is completed, and I will slot it in at an appropriate time)

Passive, adds +10 to perception rolls.> Spell Learnt: Spirit Detector - Allows you to scan your environment for the presence of spirits. Currently capable of sensing low-level spirits. Unfortunately, your new headache compounds with your hangover, and makes it very difficult to concentrate on reading. However, you manage to power through it for a little while. You also decide to read The Treatise on Underplaces. The author, listed as a Claude Hersault, describes a method of controlling and manipulating the shadows to your own benefit. It takes a bit of practice, but you finally manage to successfully perform his first spell.> Spell Learnt: Shadow Cloak - Cloak yourself in a veil of darkness. Provides a large bonus to stealth rolls, but only at night. You’ll save the rest of the reading for another time, where you preferably will be in a better mental state. You should probably go ahead and call the number you found in your pocket. It takes a few rings, but when you dial the number, you eventually hear a raspy voice on the other side.“Bobo speaking, who is this?”> “Hey Bobo, it’s me, Sean. You, uh, left your number in my pocket last night. What’s up?”> “Just wanted to keep in touch with somebody special enough to grab Jack’s interest. He’s got a real nose for talent, I tell you what. >>3966913[OPENING INCIDENT REPORT 872-B]Received notice of a disturbance in Old Gotham. A passerby reported screams, strange noises, and the smell of smoke coming from inside the old church. Tim is still recuperating from the raid on the S.T.A.R. labs convoy, and Barbara assured me that she was ready to begin field work. I don’t totally agree, but I know her well enough that she’ll just sneak off if I refused. It’s what I’d do. Barbara’s report painted a strange picture. After entering, she discovered eleven bound prisoners, each of which has been positively identified as students of history, cultural anthropology, theology, and other such disciplines at Gotham University. She made contact with a MAM that identified himself as “Jonah Tema.” He claimed to be a paranormal detective, and that Barbara had interrupted his investigation into the murder of Scott Baxter. For reference, Baxter had been found murdered in Wayne Park the day before. Due to subject’s refusal to use real name, subject has been temporarily assigned the sobriquet “Dresden” for both filing and internal communication purposes. The name was Barbara’s idea. Dresden explained that he traced the murder back to a cult of demon worshippers, and that the church served as their main base of operations. Apparently, Dresden interrupted their attempt to ritually sacrifice Paul Agnor, who had been rendered unconscious for his own safety. He went on to state that their leader, a Dr. Phineas Rockwell, transformed into a horrific monster that Dresden exterminated himself.
>>3966925Surprisingly, Agnor corroborated the story that Dresden saved his life while in GCPD custody. When pressed further for details about Rockwell’s transformation, Agnor suffered from a panic attack. Note to self, perform NBC check to ensure that it wasn’t caused by any trace of Scarecrow’s fear toxin.Dresden believed that they worshipped a particularly deadly demon in particular, and refused to speak its name. Dresden convinced Barbara to let him gather up various artifacts for disposal, while she watched over the prisoners.Barbara used this opportunity to call for reinforcements, as well as request a dossier on “Jonah Tema.”A quick background check proved that no such individual existed. Batcomputer is currently searching its database for individuals with Dresden’s description, but without more concrete details it likely won’t bear fruit.Barbara confronted Dresden on his lies, and he claimed that he kept it secret for the protection of himself and others. He must’ve struck a chord with Barbara, because she let him go without apprehending him, and extended an offer of aid in the future. Dresden accepted, but who wouldn’t?While Barbara prepared the prisoners for transfer to GCPD lockup, Dick shadowed Dresden in an attempt to learn more about him.Dresden took a cab to Gotham Village, a popular hotspot among wannabe occultists. Dick swears that he never lost track of Dresden, even for a moment, but he disappeared after entering a condemned building. Dick investigated it thoroughly for any escape routes or bolt holes, and found nothing. There are a few possibilities that must be investigated further before drawing a conclusion. First, that Dick was slacking on the job and let Dresden out of his sight. Unlikely, but possible. Next, Dresden could possess some kind of magic that allowed him to escape surveillance. Or, he could be a metahuman that disguises his powers as magic.Need to ask Zatanna and similar League affiliates about subject. Depending on findings, could be potential asset.[EXITING INCIDENT REPORT 872-B][ADDING PROFILE TO GROUP “PERSONS OF INTEREST”][DESCRIPTION OF PROFILE SENT TO KEY LEAGUE PERSONNEL]

He’s got professional training, maybe even military. He doesn’t make an easily exploitable mistakes, and time passes while the two of you try to find an opening to exploit. He must’ve thought he found one, because he performs a spinning heel kick directed towards your head.Thankfully, you catch his foot, otherwise it could’ve done some serious damage. Speaking of damage, now that you’ve got a good grip on his leg, you pull it and send him to the ground.Normally, you’d just finish him off, but hey, this is a test after all. No harm in showing off a little. You haul him back to his feet, before picking him up and lifting him over your head. Before slamming him down to the ground with a modified gorilla press. With all of your foes either out cold, moaning in pain, or crying for medical attention, you turn your attention back towards Bird.> “So……did I pass?”

>>3976629INSIDE THE MIND OF: BARBARA GORDONDresden:> He’s a bit suspicious, but so far he hasn’t really done anything wrong. Agnor’s story corroborated with his, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. There are a few things that are bugging me though. First, I mentioned the whole “magic detective” thing to Bruce and he didn’t immediately dismiss it. I thought it was just some cock-and-bull story, but maybe there’s some merit to it. If so, I owe him an apology. From what Agnor described, Dresden saved him from a pretty gruesome fate. Second, something about him just seems……familiar. Maybe it’ll come to me with time.Gunsmoke:> I used to think our first encounter was just him getting a lucky shot. If I hadn’t been so cocky and bullheaded, he wouldn’t have beaten me so easily. Tim tried to assure me that everything would be alright, and that Gunsmoke was just another thug. Then he kicked both our asses. Gunsmoke’s smart; he baited me into making stupid moves that won me a trip to the hospital. I remember hearing him say something like, “She’s not worth the heat.” After giving it some thought, the implication is chilling; he spared my life because taking it would’ve been an inconvenience. I will never let anyone get me in a position like that again. I need to train harder and find him before he crosses the line.Sean Clayton:> Who?
That's all for tonight folks. As always, questions, comments, concerns, and wild conspiracy theories are welcome.Disregard first post, I screwed up the formatting a little.
>>3976634Ayyy maybe by beating her ass so hard she'll be better prepared to not get her spinal tap later. Maybe.
>>3976636On a scale of 1-22 how impressed is Bird?
>>3976649Solid 17.5He knows they weren't perfect, but you tore them apart.
>>3976636Thanks for the run Axis. Been busy with exams, so didn't notice you were back until just now. Glad to see you're still alive. Out of curiosity, was any of Rockwell, er, left for Bats or the cops to find? Or did the body get thoroughly destroyed? Don't see it mentioned in the reports or Barbara's memories of the situation, so I'm assuming the latter, but just wanted to be sure. Also, would that chimp guy from before be affiliated with the JL? Not really familiar with less known DC characters, so I have no idea if something like an inquiry from the League would reach him.
For everybody else, you guys think we should stick with Gunsmoke when we're doing jobs for Bane? Or should we come up with some other identity for our little gang insertion? I'm inclined to just stick with Gunsmoke, since it would probably improve our job prospects if we performed well working for him, but I could see benefits from changing over to someone else, if we don't want our mercenary identity to get known for fanning the flames of a gang war.
>>3976669Rockwell got incinerated, so pretty much only ashes were left. I'm like 90% certain Bobo isn't in the Justice League.
>>3976672Gunsmoke, 100%. He is our facade with all the notoriety, I say we keep it that way. If we need a cleaner or less hot identity we could go back to our first psuedo Adjutant Tango and we have whatever the Magi-detective pseudo for doing our magic shenanigans. Opsec demands we stay compartmentalized, and keep every alias highly specialized.
>>3976672>>3976678This, so no using magic that could be easily traced back to us as Gunsmoke.
Before I forget, next thread is Thursday at the same time. Also, did the video link work right? It was a little wonky for me.
>>3976672Bird already knows us by Gunsmoke so we're probably stuck with it while working with Bane. Not that it makes much difference. People like Deathstroke still get work and he starts shit all the time and is involved with all of the gangs in Gotham at some point or another. Mercenary work is funny like that. Gunsmoke is okay.
>>3976678Mm, makes sense. Six or seven individuals with similar levels of military training working various different jobs and popping up at the same time would probably send up a bunch of red flags, however different our dress code for each is.>>3976685Worked fine for me. Throw in some ww2 grenades and we should be set.Dresden:maybe give him a hidden midwest or up state york accent, magic detective, with a bit of a distant or serious personality. Can use magic and stuff. Fights using HEMA, and carries Beretta and a sawn off shotgun or a single shot grenade launcher. Wears sunglasses on all the time, even indoors.

>>3977166I think doing accents is just asking for trouble unless QM hand-weaves it as something we've been doing all along; we've already talked with Barbara both as Gunsmoke and "Dresden" so suddenly speaking in accents will raise flags.Besides that, we need to ease up on these persona's, I mean, unless we have different and distinct ways to hide our face then we'd just be pulling a Clark Kent and as we get more and more on Batgang's list, they're gonna start noticing how all these mysterious Caucasian MAM's that have popped up in Gotham suddenly from nowhere are the same height and build and sound exactly the same minus accents.>I see how it is, it all makes sense now! And that was after we had some like fiberglass or carbon shaped "decals and armor" glued ontop.Dresden was just a guy with a grey sweat hoodie, blue work jeans, and sunglasses....So there would be a noticeable height and build difference.>>3977699Well it's settled, we start talking like a school principle, and spank her when shes been bad and we have her get on the floor, and have her do the dinosaur.

Meet our new hire, Gunsmoke!”Bird’s declaration is met by a sarcastically fake cheer.“He’s gone up against the Bats and won, and now he’s joined up with us.”The jokers quickly stop after that announcement is made.Bird signals for you to walk with him, and you both patrol around the wharf while Bird explains your duties.“The dockworkers are on our payroll, so we don’t have to worry about the unloading. Our job is to keep the cops or anybody else at bay until they’re all loaded up and ready to go, and to escort the trucks if necessary.Glad to see that you came prepared. If we can’t spook them away, everyone else on overwatch will unload on them.”A small squad consisting of you, Bird, and three other militiamen armed with automatic weapons head to the wharf’s entrance to greet your unwelcome guests. You idly notice that there are about 20 of them, most of them armed with sidearms and baseball bats, with about 4 having body armor and heavier weapons. Must be officers or the bruisers.“Get out of the way, weekend warrior!” One of the better armed goons shouts at your squad.“Bit late for a spot of tea and crumpets, isn’t it? So long as I’m not the one telling the boss about this.”The rest of Bane’s militia jeer and toss insults at the retreating group of Penguin thugs.“Come back anytime!”“That’s right, fuck off your limey boss!”“Tu madre es una puta!”“Tell your sister I’ll be over later!”Bird faces you and says “Nice work, Gunsmoke. That could’ve gotten ugly, fast. In the meantime, I’ll post some more men on the perimeter, in case they have any second thoughts. You go oversee the unloading. Holler if there are any problems.”Thankfully, the rest of the night passes without incident, and the trucks are loaded and sent to their destinations without any problems. Before dismissing you all, Bird makes a few remarks.“Hell of a job tonight, boys! Sent those birdbrains packing without a shot being fired, and the shipment’s all present and accounted for. As usual, you’ll get paid when the guns get sold. That’s it, we’re done here.”As you get ready to head out, Bird approaches you.“Hey, Gunsmoke! I haven’t forgotten about our deal. You’ll get a call in the next few days, make sure you keep that phone on you.”Thus concludes your first foray into organized crime.

No matter how long you’ve been deployed, you muse to yourself, you never truly get used to the heat. You and the rest of the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines have been deployed in Iraq for the last six months. Unfortunately, your platoon got the shit detail of helping to train the local militia forces known as the “Sons of Iraq.” Their local representative is a slimeball you’ve met a few times, named Bakar el-Saad.Even though the brass claims that they’re solid, you’ve always been on your guard around them. Something about the whole situation rubs you the wrong way, but you’re not exactly in a position to change much. “Sergeant Clayton!” Wonderful, it’s 2ndLt Jeremy Spencer. Butterbar idiot fresh out of West Point. You’ve seen his type before, the kind hungrier for glory and promotion then getting their men back home.“Insurgents have been spotted near a village a few klicks from here. It’s been decided that it will be a joint operation between us and the locals. The Sons of Iraq will be taking point on this one, our platoon will be acting in a support capacity. Your squad, as well as Osiris and ”> “Got it. We’re there to wipe their ass when they shit themselves. Loud and clear, sir.”“I don’t appreciate the sarcasm, Sergeant.” He says, frowning.“These kinds of symbolic acts incredibly important to building political ties in the region. If this fails, heads will roll, including mine.”Left unsaid is the promise that yours will as well.> “Understood, sir. Will you be accompanying us?”“No, the local television station has sent over a correspondent inquiring about our training initiatives, and I need to make a statement. Just get your men ready to move out.”> “Yes, sir. Prick” , you mumble to yourself as soon as he’s out of range.> “Hades Squad! Get your shit together, we roll out in 15 mikes!”
>>3987375You assemble your hardy band of heartbreakers and life-takers. You’ve served with some of these men for years, and some for only a few short months, but you’ve taken that time to try and connect with them.Fireteam Reaper- Cpl Thomas Armstrong (Crack shot, merciless at poker, trusted confidant)- PFC Charlie Burns (Best pugil stick fighter you’ve ever met)- PVT Micah Owens (Joined up to continue the military tradition)- PVT Nathan Roberts (Fresh out of training, but a lot of potential. Reminds you a lot of yourself when you first enlisted)Fireteam Charon- LCpl Lewis Kim (Fluent in Arabic, and can curse in a dozen languages)- PFC Ben Clark (Iowa farmboy, wants to go to college after his tour is done)- PFC Eli Tanner (Wants to be a chef, manages to make MREs somewhat edible)- PVT Cameron Thompson (Plans on marrying his fiancé next leave)Fireteam Styx- Cpl Lucas Young (Near perfect ASVAB score, voluntarily enlisted in the infantry)- PFC Noah Richards (Ex-NYPD, excellent intelligence analyst)- PFC Raul Jimenez (Used to be an embassy guard, but requested a transfer. Felt he wasn’t making a difference)- PVT Daniel Green (Was nearly strangled by Young after tipping over his portajohn) > “Alright, here’s the score. Us and the rest of the platoon are going to handhold the Sons of Iraq and make sure that they don’t accidentally shoot themselves. I’ll ride with Reaper in the second humvee. Everyone make sure that everything’s squared away. The lieutenant may have to work for a living if this mission gets botched.” Your jab is met by general laughter, as the men put the finishing touches on the preparations.A few hours later, you’re bored as hell. The Sons of Iraq started their push hours ago, and your squad’s been just sitting around with their thumbs up the collective ass.Suddenly, you hear Spencer’s voice over the radio.“Sergeant, the Sons of Iraq are requesting fire support, I’m sending in your squad to respond. Get it done, over.”The coordinates he gives you can’t be right. It involves you passing through a canyon in an area of heavy rebel activity known fondly as the “Devil’s Corridor.”> “Sir, we’d have to head through some prime bushwhacking country to reach those coordinates.”“The Sons of Iraq swept it hours ago, it’s perfectly safe. Quit wasting time and get out there!”> “Yes, sir. You heard the man, roll out!”The humvees proceed along your route, and you remain constantly on your guard as you enter the Devil’s Corridor. You make it about halfway in, before you relax just slightly. Maybe you’re just being jumpy over nothing.
>>3987378Then, to your absolute horror, Charon’s humvee explodes in a fiery conflagration of shrapnel. You’re informed later that the culprit was a concealed IED, and that all the occupants died instantly.> “Reverse, get us the fuck out of here!”However, the killzone becomes inescapable when another explosion sends a landslide down, blocking your rear exit. and crushing Richards and Jimenez.> “Exit your vehicles and find some cover!”As you and your men scramble to find suitable defenses, about two dozen insurgents emerge and open fire.Green and Owens aren’t able to reach cover in time. Owens is cut to shreds by the hail of gunfire, while Green takes a shot to the leg that immobilizes him.> “Echelon, this is Hades! We are under heavy fire in the Devil’s Corridor, do you copy over?”“Roger that Hades, Osiris is on the way. ETA 10 mikes, over.”The gunfire peters out, as it turns into both sides taking potshots at the other, with Green’s moaning in the background.“Cover me, I’m getting Green out of there!” You hear Young order.> “Stop! He’s ba-“Your warning comes too late. Young makes it to Green, and his reward is an RPG shot that obliterates them both.Burns must’ve had enough, because he emerges from cover with the intent of getting revenge on the fucker with the RPG.As soon as he does, you hear a crack and Burns’ head snaps backward.> “Sniper! Stay in your goddamned cover! Armstrong, Richards, I’ll suppress, you take that bastard out. Go!”You unleash a hail of fire at the sniper’s position, and are met by a fusillade of AK fire. You hope that you bought Armstrong and Richards enough time to counter-snipe that fucker.> “I got him Sarge!” Armstrong shouts with a look of savage glee, that burns itself into your memory when he take a stray round to the throat.Still pinned under the overwhelming enemy fire, you watch one of your closet friends slowly bleed out, before his body stops shuddering.Suddenly, the AK fire abruptly stops. After a quick peek, you can see that the insurgents are falling back, looks like your reinforcements are finally nearby. You quickly head over to check on Roberts and Armstrong. As you feared, it’s too late for Armstrong.> “FUCK! Richards, are you okay!?”“Sarge, I-I…..” Richards quietly says, before slowly revealing a massive hole in his stomach.“Guess…..guess that sniper got me too, huh?”> “Don’t worry Roberts, help is nearly here, just hold on a bit longer!”“I don’t think I’m gonna make it, Sarge.” He weakly mumbles.> “Cut the shit Marine, I haven’t given you permission to die on me!”“It…..it…..was an honor, sir.”And then he gave his last breath, as you tried desperately to stabilize the last remaining member of your squad.
>>3987380That’s how Osiris squad found you, cradling Richards’ body amidst the wreckage of your former squad. Afterwards, they cleaned you up and debriefed you on the situation.“We managed to take one of the insurgents alive. We’ll pass him off to Intelligence and see what they can get out of him.”> “No.”“I’m sorry, sir?”> “I want answers, and I want them now. Give me 15 minutes to get what I need.”“Sir, I can’t…..”> “I wasn’t asking.”Some of Osiris squad wants to argue, but when their sergeant pulls them aside for a brief chat, he gives you the nod.A few minutes later, after threatening your unlucky prisoner with some incredibly detailed and horrifyingly excruciating punishments using your KABAR, you learn that there’s a mole in the Sons of Iraq. Some more “unorthodox questioning,” and you get a name.Bakar el-Saad, the local head of the Sons of Iraq. This isn’t over. Not by a fucking long shot.(TBC)

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday!Just wanted to make a quick announcement. I'm going to upload some character perception stuff tomorrow. In addition, regular sessions will begin at 5:00 PM EST, Tuesday.
INSIDE THE MIND OF: JAMES GORDONDresden:> Batman forwarded me his file. Sounds like a load of bullshit. I’ve seen a bunch of cases over the years where someone claimed “magic” was the cause, it turned out to be just a stupid parlor trick or some kind of gas attack. Batman didn’t rule it out immediately though, so I’ll try to reign in my skepticism. Regardless, he did stop a cult from ritually sacrificing a college student, so he deserves at least credit for that. Who knows, if he turns out be legit, maybe he could help on some of our weirder cases. PI’s are usually pretty shady, but we can frankly use all the help we can get nowadays.Gunsmoke:> Dangerous, to say the least. Judging from the intel Batman’s shared with me, Gunsmoke is a priority target. So far, details have been scarce. Professional training, possible ex-military, and a surprising 0 homicides. Maybe he’s like Deathstroke, doesn’t kill anybody because he might get paid to whack them later. Either way, official policy is to pull back on sight and call in for heavier reinforcements; Batman if possible, SWAT otherwise. Heard through the grapevine that local bosses are on a recruitment drive. Hope we can snap him up before he joins up with one. Gotham’s always on a razor’s edge, and he may just be enough to tip the balance.Sean Clayton:> Got an APV a few months back about a bunch of escaped inmates. Clayton was one of them, but haven’t had any sighting / reports of him. Feds are still sniffing around for leads though.Adjutant Tango:> What genius picked that name out? Never heard of it.
INSIDE THE MIND OF: BOBO T. CHIMPANZEEDresden:> I enjoyed the books, but the name doesn’t ring any bells.Sean Clayton / Gunsmoke:> Sean Clayton and Gunsmoke are one and the same. It’s a fairly simple deduction. Jack and another suspect were confirmed to be at the scene of the S.T.A.R Labs convoy heist. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that Jack also has a newly minted partner. I’ll sit on this information for now. Clayton’s got the killer instinct, but Jack’ll be a good influence on him. Despite my suspicions, I know Jack well enough that he wouldn’t have brought Clayton onboard if he was some kind of homicidal nutcase. Who knows, maybe I can persuade him to go clean. Either way, I don’t plan on ratting out a drinking buddy if I don’t have to. Adjutant Tango:> Interesting name, but a bit long. Never heard of them.
INSIDE THE MIND OF: PANDION IITHE WARRIOR:> The warrior continues to prove himself worthy of my patronage. He does not cower away from combat, yet he does not recklessly throw himself away in the pursuit of conquest. I did not know the breadth of his magical potential upon our initial bonding, but I welcome the additions to our arsenal. I only hope that he does not let that power go to his head. It is also…….comforting that I can teach the warrior of my people and our traditions. I am likely the last of my kind, and it is my duty to find a worthy successor to my legacy. I eagerly await our next worthy foe.
INSIDE THE MIND OF: SETThe Kid:> I’ll be honest, I figured the kid was just going to be cannon fodder that I’d use to get out of my cage. After I got free, put myself back together, and settled a few scores, I figured we’d go our separate ways. Then he went and got soulbound to the Claw of Horus. Magic’s always been fickle, but the Claw wouldn’t have responded to him if he didn’t have the spark inside of him. I was lucky to stake my claim before anybody else had a chance to. Latent magicians are incredibly rare, pretty much anyone who has potential is usually born into a society or family that knows / nurtures that talent. In my case, I hit the jackpot. Reliable and morally flexible mercenary turned budding mage fits my purposes nicely. So I gave him my Mark and in turn, access to my Natures. I look forward to seeing what kind of damage he’ll do with them, maybe give him a few pointers if necessary. Can't have my Avatar be a weakling after all.
INSIDE THE MIND OF: GENTLEMAN GHOSTSean:> He was in a dark place when I found him. After doing a bit of digging and uncovering the cause, I felt a sort of kinship. There were other candidates that I was considering enlisting in my quest, but I felt something special about Sean. Considering that he’s become a magical powerhouse in his own right, that decision has definitely been justified. At first, I was worried Sean would be nothing more than a lout that relies upon brute force, but I was quickly disabused of such a spurious notion. I’m a bit worried about his relationship with Set, but Sean has proven capable of making his own decisions. He has done an excellent job so far, and I glad to have him in my service. To be frank, I missed having pleasant company that I could also talk business with. I’m going to miss him when our shared mission reaches its apex.
Alright, that's everything I've cooked up. As always, let me know what you think!
>>3990624Well, the fact that he knows about our actual identity is a bit concerning, but he doesn't seem to have drawn a connection yet, so we're probably fine for now. Not like he'd have any way to find us even if he did connect us to Gunsmoke, I suppose.>>3990625Bobo's a good lad, as expected. Tad worried about that "for now", but it's not like we're planning on doing anything egregious enough to make him rat us out to the League or something.>>3990629What a bro, we're gonna do great things together. Maybe we can track down some descendants or something for him, see what they're up to.>>3990630Always seemed a little bit sketchy to me, to be entirely honest, but he's done alright by us, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Feel like he's probably going to try and get us to wreak havoc and sow chaos though, like that pushy roommate that's trying a little too hard to get you to do drugs with him.>>3990637Jack's the best, I'm gonna miss the limey, once we finally manage to help him pass on. >>3993326I should be free. Party doesn't start until a couple of hours before midnight. Normal time probably works out better for most people though.
>>3993326I have no plans
>>3993326I'll be able to participate about as much as I usually do.
>>3993326Ill be here Hombre
>>3993326New year is a wonderful excuse to etay up all night
Alright folks, quick update / announcement. Since I've seen a good amount of interest in running tomorrow, we will continue as planned. It'll start at 5:00 PM EST, but I'll try to post a reminder a few hours before.I've also done some thinking and made a few changes to the skill system. I'll outline them below.- Perks are gained from natural 100’s, and cannot be improved / trained.- Skills are improved via training. When you train a mundane skill, like stealth or CQC, you roll and attempt to beat your trainer’s roll. A failure will yield a smaller gain than a success, and a critical success is double a regular success’ gain.- However, if it is a magical skill, like improving / learning a new spell, failure means that nothing will change. You will have an easier DC on the next attempt though. If you get a critical success, I’ll advance it 2 levels instead of 1.- Instead of having a flat “Unarmed Combat” skill, you can learn different styles that add modifiers to certain types of attacks.- These styles stack on top of each other, I will not force you to select which one to consciously use at any given time.In the interests of full disclosure, I also shifted around some contact stuff. If anyone has questions / concerns / insults about my impeccable bloodline, let me know. If the "different styles" thing gets too clunky, I’ll just revert back to the flat bonus.
>>3996141Can a crit also improve skill level? What about having crits give a more powerful tier of perks?Lets try out the new system first before we criticize it.
>>3996151I've been using crits as a onetime buff of sorts. They provide a bonus to that skill, but in most cases do not increase its proficiency. If that makes any sense.I'll think about your 2nd point.
>>3996163In case it wasn't clear, I mean we'd get a basic tier with the first crit, then the next one could bump it to the next tier, and etc.So a few more minutes before you start...... , or did I forget how New Years and NYE work?
>>3996371New Year's Eve is Tuesday, anon.
>>3996376Poop. Kill your enthusiasm.
Session will resume in 4 hours.Since we're pretty close to falling off the board, I'll archive this thread and start a new one before the new session starts. Also, I'm still working on the final part of the flashback sequence. I've had a bit of writer's block, and I apologize for the delay.
>>3997065It's all good. See you when we go live, boss
>>3997434Thank you, anon. I always fuck up the cross-posting.
