Stanley! Good evening." You recognize it as Annabelle's voice. You turn around to greet her."Hey. I was just heading over to dinner.""As was I. I simply must have somthing to eat after working so much today. I had to help David and Euanthe set up booby traps in the gardens. What was your task?""I helped out Jezula in the kitchen make some..... things.""So you have met our head Chef? Very nice woman, Jezula. Acts like everyone's grandmother.""Yea" you agree. You both eventually reach the dining hall. The second you step in, Gerald immediately walks over to you."Mr. Morrison, as per my duty as head butler, I must inquire as to where you were working today?"What do you say?>"I was working with Jezula all day.">Come clean>Make somthing up (write what)>Write in

>>393710"I was with Jezula all day, like you asked me to."Gerald scans your face for a moment. It feels like being on the wrong end of a microscope. After a moment that seems to go on for ages, he relents. "Very well then. I'm off to go fetch Madame Bearrice." He says before walking out of the roomThe second the door closes behind him, you let out a deep sigh. Hopefully you won't have to lie to him again for awhile. You scan the room, and see Jezula sitting down near Serena. You decide to sit down next to them. "Hey Stanley. What did you do today?""I helped out Jezula a bit, then did some... Other stuff. How about you?" Jezula looks up from her dinner with a strange expression, then quickly returns to her meal,"I had to bottle som of my fluids for the away team. It was not very pleasant." "I see." You return to your meal, slightly grossed out. After a few minutes, Gerald returns with Beatrice, who looks fairly tired. You realize that this must be early in the morning for her. The whole room quickly goes silent."As most of you probably already know, the away team and I plan on leaving tonight. Rose is kind of guy to use his expendable army of Grotesques to fight a war of attrition, so most of our attack power will be focused on bringing him down as quickly as possible. As he will likely make the assumption that I will be staying here for protection, he will try to attack during the day when he thinks I am most vulnerable. Be prepared. Any questions?" Beatrice finishes, her normally jovial tone replaced by a much more serious one.Would you like to ask something?>Yes (what?)>No
>>393824After a brief silence, Beatrice speaks again"Very good. I will be making my personal preparations, I want the away team in the driveway and ready in 3 hours." Beatrice unceremoniously leaves the room. Everyone soon goes back to eating."It's nice to see Ms. Beatrice like this again after so long" Serena says, putting more food in her mouth. "Yes. It will do her good to be out of the Manor for awhile" Jezula agrees."Why has Beatrice 'been out of the game' for so long?" You ask. Jezula and Serena's faces seem to darken. Serena begins."Beatrice was transformed along with her little sister by her father. She hasn't told me, or anyone, the exact circumstances. But afterwards, she was more or less independent from her father for long time, until she started challenging other manors. Eventually, her dad got pissed at her and we fought him. We lost a lot of good friends along the way.""What happened to Beatrice's father?" You ask. This time, Jezula speaks up"We won, in the end. The day you first came here was the anniversary of our victory.""It's the one time a year the Countess actually has some blood from a live human." Serena says, pushing some food around on her plate. What do you say?>"Why do you keep on fighting if it causes so much pain?">"Sorry for brining up bad memories.">Change the subject>Stay silent>Write in

Rose is one of the monsters that allied themselves with Beatrice's father to kill her. This fight is pretty personal for some of us." Serena seems to recover, and continues eating. You sigh and do the same. Everyday you spend here, you get to know these people more and more. Aren't you supposed to be escaping this obligation? You spend the rest of the dinner idly chatting with Serena. As people begin to leave, Serena turns to you. "Do you want to see the others off? You don't have to if you don't want to."What do you do?>"Sure">"No thanks"

Serena and you part ways as you are walking back to your room to rest for a bit, a familiar blue djinn poofs in front of you."Stanley, my friend, how lucky I am to have found you!" Hasan says with his large grin."Hey Hasan. What is it?" You say, slightly annoyed. You can't help but feel he doesn't take you very seriously."Well, as you know, the Mistress will be away from the Manor for the first time in almost a century. It would be the perfect opportunity for you to acquire my eyes. If you do so, your aid will not be forgotten. I will make sure she pays for what she has done to you."What do you say?>"Sure. Otherwise, I'm still pretty new to this, and your asking me to do somthing pretty damn risky."Hasan's smile twitches before assuming its original posture. "Very well then. Just remember whose going to help you at the end of the day." And with that, he disappears, leaving a wisp of smoke behind him.You head back to your room, and lay down for a bit. You didn't really do much, but after learning so much, you feel drained. After about an hour and a half, you hear commotion near the from entrance outside. You head down to see everyone with bags getting ready for the trip. You head over to Serena, who is talking to Diane."Hey Serena. Hey Diane." You say,"Diane looks at you and simply says "Hello" before walking away."Sorry about her. She still in a bad mood after what happened.""Really?" You say, with exaggerated sarcasm. Serena chuckles. You notice Jezula pouring a bag of powder into a circle around Fido. When the circle is complete, she claps her hands, and with a puff of blue smoke, a large black van is in its place. David drags a large trailer and hooks it to the back of the car.Gerald and Beatrice come out of the Manor. Gerald starts talking to Sergei while Beatrice gets everyone's attention."Well everybody, it seems were going to do this again. I wish those of you staying home the best of luck. When we get back, we'll have Rose's head on a spike."Everyone claps, and a few whistle loudly. The away team climbs into the van, with the exception of Annabelle, who manages to fit herself in the trailer, her legs folded. As the car drives away, the rest of you wave at the arms stinking out from Fido's open windows. "Now then everybody. Get some rest. Diane, I want you to stay up with me tonight in case of an attack. If you are awoken by the alarm, immediately head to the dining room, where we will asses the situation. Understood?"You all reply with a mixture of answers, all of which mean yes. You decide to return to your room and rest. It seems unnaturally calm. It's hard to sleep, knowing that someone might attack. That, and now knowing your biology, you wonder if you'll start to actually start to like Beatrice. You finally manage to fall asleep.I need to go for now. This chapter is by no means over, I will continue it tomorrow morning. In the meantime, while I have your attention, please tell me how I could improve this quest, and what you would like to see happen.
>>394436I would like a chance to use our demon powers, but it seems like thats coming up soon. Also if we are supposed to dislike Beatrice we should have some more reasons to dislike her since we have had almost exclusively good interactions with herThere are very few choices that have any real weight to them. Most are do thing vs don't do thing. Its fine for some choices but they should lead to some clearly differing things happening, like when we ignored the defense to read was a good choice on your part as opposed to say goodbye vs don't On the other hand dogcar is a cute idea
>>394615I think Stan has plenty of reason to hate Beatrice. She basically kidnapped us and got us into this situation. Now we have to serve her for a lifetime? Seems like a shitty deal.I agree that the choices don't hold a lot of weight, but I trust YOB will have some more action later in the quest. These first few chapters felt more of like a build up to the actual conflict.I do like the classic monster aesthetic though, and all these monsters interacting should be interesting.
>>394615>>394795I admit that most of my choices don't have much weight to them, as the plot thickens and becomes more than just doing housework, choices will hold more value. Demonic powers will definitely come into play soon. As you probably already guessed from our reading in the library, the demon in Stan is related to substance abuse and addiction. I have a lot of cool powers in mind that relate to this. Also, I describe Stan as disliking Beatrice because the general consensus of my few readers is that she's a kinda a bitch. Stan's thoughts and personality reflect what you guys think about his world. I'm also making my next posts on my phone, so bear with me.
>>394436You open your eyes to a familiar sight: blurry darkness behind rusty bars of a cell. Ah, shit. You feel not!You start to speak. It feels just as uncomfortable as last time."Hey buddy! Howzit going out there?""What do you want?""Oh, nothing, just checking in. You did a great job today. We're getting close to learning our name, I can almost taste it." You feel your mouth start to salivate "God, you're a creepy motherfucker.""Whatever you say, pal. Man, that's one hell of an alarm clock you got.""Wha-" The cavern fills with light, and your suddenly awake again. A high-pitched alarm is going of. The barely risen sun burns your eyes as you get dressed, forgoing many of the accessories. As you get your weapons together, you hear an explosion that sounds like it was outside. You rush to the dining room. Gerald, Serena, Jezula, and the weird, three eyed cat lady you've seen a few times around dinner are all present. You realize just how few of you their really are"Everybody, it appears we have some intruders. I will confront them behind the manor in the north. Serena and Stanley, take the southeast, Ava, take the southwest. Attack any that enter, but do not pursue any that make it inside. Jezula, you will be waiting for them within the manor. Leave no survivors. Understood?" Gerald finishes, a mixture of infuriation and elation mixed in with his normally stern tone. The clear instructions calm your nerves somewhat, and knowing Serena will be their to heal you is defined a good thing. You notice she has a spear in her hands. She turns to face you. She's smiling. "Let's go Stanley." You follow her down through the manor. Your adrenaline builds with every step. Hearing another explosion, you realize exactly what kind of traps Annabelle and the others must have been setting. When you finally reach the outside, you look around. It's strangely silent and calm. The strange, crystal dog thing is there, growling at something it the bushes. It looks rather pretty with the morning sun reflecting of its skin. Suddenly, a malformed body comes flying in through the trees. It's heading right for you.Role 1d20

You now have a bloody nose. Stumbling backwards, you wait as your vison becomes clear again. "Stanley!" Serena yells, "What the fuck are you doing?" You roll out of the way, to the side of the creature as a cascade of putrid bile spews out of it's mouth. The ground hisses and bubble. Dismembered body parts and chunks of stuff you don't even want to know about lie on the earth. The smell wafts up to your nose, and you feel like you going to puke. But it has a strange scent of familiarity about it. You don't know why, but a single phrase pops into your head. You say it."Vergul, Morgar Incend Ni Nat" A feeling of fire rises in your stomach, and you release a stream of fire into the creature's eyes. It shrieks in pain. Dazed after what happened, you hear a voice behind you."Stanley!" It's Serena. "Duck!" You crouch down immediately, and the newly retrieved spear whistles over your head, and strikes the creature directly between the eyes. It stops screaming, and slumps over limp.(Cont.)
>>398852You take a deep breath, and walk over to Serena. You heart is still beating a mile a minute. "I didn't know you could do that Stanley!" She says, a little too energetically. "I didn't know either." You say, tired."Well," Serena says, as she walks over to the ball of fat and wrenches her spear from the carcass "I think we've just about taken care of the enemies here. Ava's a bit... strange though." Serena replys, a hint of fear in her voice"What could possibly be strange at this point?""Touché." You both walk around the front of the manor, and as you round the corner, you immediately notice the copious amounts of blood, entrails, and limbs strewn across the grass. Ava is fighting a gaunt creature with grey skin and the head of a deer. Both of them are moving extraordinarily fast. After a few movements you can't quite follow, Ava pounces on the creature, and chomps into it's neck, ripping out a chunk of flesh, wolfing it down in a manner of seconds. It is certainly not a clean process. Suddenly, the state of the lawn makes sense. Ava continues to feast on her prey before noticing you."Oh hi. Just having my brunch, thank you." She says in a eerily childlike voice. After a moment you decide to respond."Uh... You're welcome?" With those words, the Ava goes back to eating. "What's wrong with her?" You whisper to Serena. She shrugs "Nobody knows. Lady Beatrice picked her up back when we were at war with her dad. She was locked up in his dungeon."Suddenly, you hear whistle coming from the manor. You look up, only to see Jezula trying to get your attention. "Come back in. Some fresh meat managed to find its way inside!"You walk with Serena back to the entrance. The sun is now fully revealed, just above the horizon. You feel refreshed somehow, despite killing somthing that would drive a lot of people insane. Things may suck ass here, but they may not suck as much ass as you once thought."Hey, Jezula was joking about the fresh meat thing, right?" You ask your amphibious coworker as you open the door to the manor."Eh. Probably." That was the end of chapter 6! I didn't actually think I'd make it this far! The next chapter will probably be next Thursday, which I think will become my scheduled day for this quest. Please post any questions, concerns, complanints, or complements.
>>399315You ever read Princess Resurrection?Your quest is pretty similar to it
>>399328I have not, actually. Is that a good or bad thing?
>>399315So did you plan for that magic thing or did my write in just strike a chord?
>>399354I planned to have him learn some kind of spell during this chapter, but the incendiary spell you gave struck a chord. At this point, Stanley is going to get stronger the more he experiences things that "remind" him of his past life. Or if he learns his name, he'll go full demon immediately, for better or worse
>>399372No chance of earning his own or changing his extant name?
>>399382Maybe. But that's more endgame stuff. For now, I really want to tap into that whole "is Stan still Stan, or is he just a vessel for the demon?" thing
>>399413Well laying this out and Beatrice's feet forcibly turning us against our will erasing all of who we are ought to be a rude awakening to how much like her father she is.
>>399347Definately not a bad thing.
