In the aftermath of a tragic combine harvester accident that the Monsanto corporation is struggling to bury despite webcam footage, nine faggots were given supernatural powers by the God of Chaos and sent into Isekai-land to provide entertainment since he burned through his anime backlog. Once they arrived, they froze their asses off, slew nearly twenty zombies, and (accidentally) destroyed a temple to the Goddess of Healing through the power of Saint Michael.

During the middle of the fight, a tenth Isekai victim crawled out of the ruins, disoriented but quickly brought up to speed. Shortly after, two others nearly died and a warrior's wounds underwent a recovery that was nothing short of miraculous. Not having anywhere else to go, the surviving cultists decided to accompany our intrepid heroes, edgy antiheroes, blatant vigilantes, apathetic hangers-on, and potential villains held back only by the rest of the party on their journey to the city of Taedmorden.

It is after approximately one and a half weeks of almost starving in the snow and wishing more of them were experienced campers that we resume our quest. They may think that nothing is amiss, but unbeknownst to them, a surprise weighing multiple hundreds of tons awaits in their path. It is a questionable decision, not helped by the combine harvester's insistence on going in a loop. Holy shit.

Each of the Isekai victims living on a diet of half-starved squirrels, boiled mushrooms, and the refusal to die is stopped cold on their trail by the sight of something even the least sane among them wouldn't have expected in a dozen minutes of grabbing at meaningless hypotheticals. A swathe of pine trees has been flattened and shattered, and to either side are the wheeled tracks of an impossible machine that should not be, but crudely parked in an outcropping of trees, it stands in a mountain of splinters- a monument to one man's defiance of sanity, rationality, and common sense in favour of a glorious eternal truth only he can see.

The LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train was his choice and his alone, and in truth, when he was given the decision to make, he knew, consequences be damned that none other would ever suffice. It has been nigh-impossible to keep its cabin and the four cars attached fed the two-hundred and twenty pounds of fuel it needs to keep moving and with the stockpile that came dwindling down to less than two week's worth of tonnage, the conductor was in dire straights. The two others that came with him into the frozen wasteland and agreed to travel rather than risk starvation, Mark and Dante, have pitched in where they can but with each day to go by, keeping the LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train moving instead of freezing seems more and more unsustainable with each minute that passes.

Little by little, the three had begun to lose hope but awakening to the sudden sound of stunned shouts, they stare out the cabin's window and catch sight of ten armed, road-weary, and utterly befuddled men that are clearer than the day. Neither side knows each other's names, but they remember the combine harvester, and their shared dimensional roots gives them a mutual understanding that no native of this world could ever know. What comes next, time alone can tell and elsewhere, the God of Chaos sits on the edge of his seat.

Congratulations.

"Fucking finally. Remind me to grab a book in town because holy shit that was boring."
>>
>>3919931
"Right you faggots must be the new batch. I don't feel the need to introduce myself because honestly, I can't be sure how long you'll last."

"First order of business, Miyashita or Emiya whatever your name's too complicated. The lord of Taedmorden is offering your people Asylum. It might be a good place to spread your faith and start over to be perfectly honest"

>>3919899
"I talked to lord Fellhand and he seemed like a decent enough dude. I REALLY don't want to recount everything so Terry if you don't mind could you play them the recording."

"TL;DR is he's offering us a place to stay for a few heads but since I wasn't a pussy I asked him for some harder quests.
It's pretty much mountain bandits or cultists really."

"I told him I'd give him an answer soon too."
>>
>>3919951
"This isn't to say we shouldn't take a few days off in Caelkirk by the way.
I think we need to make some money and get at least some supplies before we set off on the quests."
>>
>>3919951
“How about we get situated and more importantly out of this snow field before we start arguing over quests? We can listen to it at anytime but we have a strict timetable for getting our shit together. We can start by asking these strangers for a ride.”
>>
>>3919967
"What'you mean shit together?
You can't even be sure how many of them are actually awake or go off into bumfuck nowhere like those three ones I can't even remember the names of.
Hell play the recording for them too if you want it'll give them an idea what's going on, even give them a recap since I already talked about all the shit we did."
>>
Are Dante and Mark even here? I know Jackson isn't because he said he would be gone.
>>
>>3919972
“We don’t even know who these guys are or what they’re doing here. For all we know they have no connection to or knowledge of our “employer”. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re out in the freezing tundra and may as well be half starved. We have more immediate business to deal with, like basic survival.”
>>
>>3919976
"There we fucking go"

"The options are, Open the chance, just the chance and option to talk about the exposition or wait for the new people to MAYBE reply so they can give their cringe ass introductions about not knowing what happened and suddenly waking up here and waaaaa waaa useless exposition about themselves nobody gives a shit about that probably won't matter since they'll probably go catatonic anyway."
>>
>>3919976
Dante should be around. As for Mark, I have no idea. He pretty much disappeared after joining.
>>
>>3919981
"What the fuck is this catatonic shit anyways? Remember Jake? Orion? New Guy? None of them have said or done anything since before we got here."
>>
>>3919980
"Jesus you actually want to the do the whole character introductions spiel.
You know we're gonna be stuck here all day with this cliche?"

>We have more immediate business to deal with, like basic survival.
"It's fine what're we even gonna talk about?
Hey maybe we should actually be using magic or our powers to help survive even though that's already been taken into account?
This travelling session's just gonna be that zombie horde again, just more of the same shit till we actually hit an encounter."

"The only thing to talk about are the new guys and DEAR GOD I couldn't care less about people who probably won't even respond."
>>
>>3919984
I don't get why people make characters if they're not going to play.

I’m not talking about introductions. Something like “hey can we hitch a ride we’re going to xxx”. It’s that simple. I think your mixing up in-game events with the actual progression of the thread.

After-Effect summons alternate versions of yourself from nearby timelines, and I'm almost certain that given the choice of any vehicle manufactured in the last century, none of them would've chosen to bring a LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train to Isekai setting. Then again, you know yourself much better than I do, and if you call tell me in full honesty that you've watched the Polar Express double-digits of times, you may make the attempt in the future.

These rolls would've failed though, the more different an iteration of yourself is the harder they are to bring. Sorry to hold the show and skip out an hour after starting the thread, but my mornings tend to be busy. Out of curiosity, what are you trying to cook?

>>
>>3920876
When did you get to “scan” the Death Knight? The only one who saw him was Miracle and that was in a vision. I could be wrong, but I think OP just gave us his abilities as a freebie.
>>
>>3920890
He gave the abilities as a response to my question, here's the exact information:

Of course the grave-knight's dead, but he is reanimated and intact. At the moment he's half an hour's ride away but the sound of an earthquake and sudden loss of almost forty undead has certainly caught his attention. There's an even 50/50 chance he's going to ride back and investigate for himself or cut his losses and hoof it while he can.

You sense that there are several different kinds of reanimated knight, this in particular is a grave-knight, a powerful necromantic warrior risen to do battle by the decree of a dark god. In this case, Yredelemnul. They are essentially wights but better in every way, possessing strength and durability at least five times what they had in life, necromancy to match a sorcerer, and a handful of innate abilities, most notably, animating any corpses in sight, absorbing life force to heal themselves or hurt their foes, and with intense focus and exhaustion, mirroring the wounds inflicted on them to reflect half of the damage they suffer to their opponents.

You reason that if you were to fight the grave-knight, your best chance would be at a distance with a small battalion of archers firing blessed arrows and at least one priest banishing the negative energy, preferably with a sorcerer bringing down as many destructive spells as possible. Failing that, catching him by surprise before he can activate his mirror ability is ideal.

A common thread with Death Perception is it can be applied as broadly or as precisely as needed with very little restrictions.
>>
>>3920890
Just reread thread #1 you didn’t actually see him but OP gave you the info simply because you asked for it. The implications of this are very interesting. If it wasn’t just an oversight on his part, that would mean you would have inherent knowledge on virtually anything you can conceptualize without having to even encounter it.
>>
Hey how do I join
>>
>>3920904
It's absurdly bullshit. Even the description of the cheat uses the vaugest possible terminology.

The reason why I prefer it so much over the other cheats is because it starts out as ungodly levels of bullshit but gives nothing in terms of raw power or ability. This means I can completely focus on improving my normal abilities rather than developing a unique power, and it just feeds into better utilization of Death Count.

You won’t be so high and mighty when the patch comes out. Seriously though, you got a lucky combination. You should be a monster for the first few threads given you warrior buffs and cheat. >>
>>3920934
I don't intend to depreciate as time goes on. I hope to be able to get an item in the vein of a Glove of Holding and use that so I can carry tons of weapons with me so I can exploit any weakness I come across. Elemental enchants are also a must have.
>>
>>3920942
The two of us will face similar issues once the others become more consistent in their performances. We might have our moments from time to time but I imagine that pure melee fighters will find themselves at a huge disadvantage somewhere down the line. I plan on mitigating that by either enchanting some daggers or getting a hand crossbow, but I doubt mundane things like crossbows will be of much use when we get deep into the campaign.

I'm a bit more optimistic for the future of nonmagic classes. There are martial artists that have ascended their skill to deific status on the Crawl pantheon after all. And magic just seems a bit flimsy even at higher skill levels. Props to Lie for taking wizard though, that's the kind of consistency I would want from magic but as it stands sorcery seems to be a bit too insubstantial for my taste.
>>
>>3920948
If You get a crossbow, at least get a hefty one. A one handed crossbow isn't powerful enough to no just have a shortbow.

If this anything like dnd than wizards will be weak at the begining but become gods at the end.

>>
>>3920967
It's kind of written right into the class description that sorcery is unreliable. Not saying it's useless or lackluster or anything but I just don't think it's consistent enough to be relied on. Nobody has even gotten a spell off besides Lie who took a reliability based subclass.
>>
>>3920960
Roll for cheats or state your subclass, please.
>>
>>3920963
When you really think about it everything here is flimsy to some degree. Things can be mitigated by higher stats but even a warrior can be fucked over by a few bad rolls. I’d say melee is only slightly more consistent than magic but it’s outpaced in both potency and utility.

Sorcery requires clarity of mind, visualisation, and the spell hitting a target that isn't resistant or able to counter. Generally, it takes several seconds from start to finish, whereas a Warrior or Rogue can simply act and disrupt the process at any moment. In addition, enchanted equipment replicates much of what a sorcery is capable of doing, bridging the gap significantly.

>(10) Harem Protag You now have a sex appeal that defies logic, giving an *absolute* bonus to seduction attempts and compelling members of the opposite sex to get jiggy with it, to the extent that you must roll to determine whether they are willing to engage in coitus, not whether they are interested. They are always open to polygamy but members of the same sex will resent you. Some violently.
>(5) Edgelord You can teleport behind your foes, summon ninja weapons OR dual desert eagles/uzis at your discretion, and drain life force to regenerate or fuel your attacks when you cut someone. You can also cut yourself and reabsorb it at an equal ratio. Forbidden sorcery comes twice as easily and malign entities see you as their equivalent and take you seriously, for good or ill. This comes at the cost of a gravelly voice, deep dislike of daylight, and the permanent fixation to wear a trenchcoat and dark-tinted sunglasses, which you can summon at will. If your dialogue is sufficiently edgy, you may receive a bonus to any given roll.

In and around the LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train, the Iskeai victims recollect their past accomplishments and strive to push themselves in vigorous training. Limits exist to be broken and those who embraced the nature of this new world know that all too well. On the journey to this junction, several had the foresight to train ahead of Caelkirk, some with more success than others.

Pleasantly surprised by his lack of sensitivity to the cold, Alex deepened his understanding of meditation but, to his disdain, found that he could only increase his knowledge of what he has become through the consumption of a sapient soul. Sentients, mere squirrels and vermin are adequate sustenance, but only the annihilation of true, thinking souls can further his understanding of the unholy. He and Miyashita build up a rapport, and she often reflects that it would be terrible to lose such a kindhearted young boy to the dangers they're facing.

Mark, future master of timelines realises that this many newcomers are going to need to be fed sooner or later. Accordingly, he finds an obscenely massive pot and with the help of Jackson, who knows his way around a kitchen surprisingly well, they manage to cook a delicious stew. Most of the various adventurers who have it for lunch seem quite taken with it, but then again, anyone would be after enough time struggling to scrape by in the woods. Filled with the contentment a chef has prior to cleaning the dishes, he leans back and smiles, before the feeling of a tug from a nearby timeline catches his attention and ceases immediately. This first time meeting could've gone much worse.

David, in company with [Dr. Stone], props his feet up onto a table and enjoys a warm nap on a full belly. That's the life, right there. Doesn't get any better than that. His mirror opposite in many ways but so similar in some, Miracle directs his attention to cultivating a proper campfire. The endeavour is an admirable proof of concept, but between the damp snow and poor fuel, he discovers nothing new more than how little he knows. Eventually he'll be better, and when he does, his aptitude of woodcraft will be an asset to any party. [Speed Demon] doesn't say so aloud, but he's sure of it.

While this is going on, Dante and Chase decide to train at the same time, and after a few warm-ups and some mental stretching, the two engage in a bout of impromptu sparring that leaves the watching cultists clapping. They would be a dangerous pair, especially considering how much room Dante has to grow, and how far Chase has furthered his swordsmanship over the last week.

"O-oh, it's extremely rare. You have no idea. So many sorcerers come- came into the temple with horrific burns and some were even missing fingers or eyes but you..." The priestess shifts on one leg, trying and failing to hide the rising blush in her cheeks. "You're s-so talented..."

During the resident lightning manipulator's conversation with the priestess, Terry focuses on getting to the bottom of what exactly his brick phone can do but first... *CLICK* "I'm so sorry I missed your call but there's so many maimed martyrs and weary souls flooding into heaven I just haven't had the time to-" the voicemail. "-get back to you later, I'm on the crystal sphere with someone now. No, they're not a prophet, they're a... Nevermind, I'm... sorry about that mortal. I'll call you back when I can but since the demon lord rose... WHAT?" He holds the phone at a distance, before realising it dampens harmful volumes of speech. "THERE'S HOW MANY ABANDONED WISPS THAT NEED THEIR MEMORY BACK!?! Oh no, I have to leave... R-remember to say your prayers, drink plenty of water, and stay away from ephemeral dream-silvers and inter-dimensional trance powders! I love you, bye!"

...

It seems the goddess of healing is badly overworked. Discarding the dark implications of that, Terry focuses on getting to the bottom of what the brick phone can really do. Almost an hour later, he's found that there are a handful of settings he can edit at his leisure, ranging from volume, to translation rate, to remote influence block percentage, among others. Even the teleportation sound effect when he summons and dismisses it can be customised. Some cheats might be more impressive or useful overall, but it's a damned nice phone.

At the same time this is going on, Anon flexes in the reflection of the LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train's polished sides, almost swearing that his countless hours of lifting rocks and putting them down on the trail has bolstered his strength. Maybe not noticeably, but the biceps seem a little veinier and from what little he knows from /fit/, with a body so tiny, bulking should be really easy, right? Moments away, ignoring the sound of the shadow imp huffing as he lifts a rock at least twice his size, Alex is engrossed in a startlingly fascinating conversation with a cultist about the finer details of whittling. "Now ye see, ye can't jus' whack at it... 'cha gotta work da knife along wit' da groove, ye gotta really work wit' da wood, not against it... 'cha get it? Heheaha, lemme show ye a piece of work I did way back when. I's a bit of gnome ivoury some fool wen' n' brought in, i's real nice shine to it, 'cha see? Yeahuhn, so..."

Contemplating the art of illusion for a vast amount of time, the wizard eventually comes to the conclusion that shit is complicated. That said, he is a scholar and it didn't stop him from puzzling out abstract calculations for exponentially less gain, so why should it stop him here? With a bit of experimentation, Lie figures out that illusions need not be focused on a particular person and the less detailed they are, the more consistently they can be summoned. A spray of prismatic colours erupts from his fingertips and it occurs to him that they could be infused with some superheated light to generate a respectable amount of damage upon... Huh.

Maybe if he tried re-calibrating the...

Far away, at the back of the LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train, unbeknownst to everyone there, the fourteenth member of the combine harvester casualties club steps from the shadows. In his fingerless gloved hands is a bowl of stew, and at his sides are two gold-plated desert eagles. The stew was honestly really good. Around him, the winter chill seems repelled by the sheer badassery of his trenchcoat, as if mother nature herself was hesitant to lay a claw on the pure, unbridled, absolute sex appeal of this mysterious, monstrous hunk of a man. Hundreds of yards away, the three women at the scene shiver, but not from the cold.

Shi Taberu Hito has arrived.

Organize a fuel gathering party and use the strength of my other versions to haul more wood.

Guys, i have an idea how we can make profit out of the train. How bout we offer services of a caravan. Safe and fast travel and the large amount of materials we can haul between settlements is large at best. What do you guys think?
>>
I've arrived your savior in this cold desolate wastland. I will be the sheperd to guide you sheeple out of this frozen hell. For I am Shi Taberu hito or as you westerns might say THE DEATH EATER.
>>
>>3921418
You walked for a week and a half from the ruins of the temple, and according to my calculations, the city of Caelkirk is nine more days away. Because a freight train's average speed is forty-nine miles per hour, I'll fiat the LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train can manage thirty miles per hour in the snow, cutting your journey down to roughly two days.

>>3921419
I'm sorry to say, but the desert eagles only last five minutes when they're more than ten feet from Shi. Otherwise he'd be able to spam them infinitely, but there's still nothing preventing him from summoning one for every shot he takes, then throwing it over his shoulder.

>>3921826
I wonder where he went off to anyway? Even if he’s been somewhat declining in post rate he’s usually at the very least present for the day. I don’t think he posted at all this session, but as I’ve proven before sometimes I mix things up in regards to this quest.

He's primo comic relief and his power is great because now it's impossible to be a waifufag and nobody has any incentive to whiteknight anymore. Anybody that tries to derail for the sake of a thot is just going to end up cucked in the long run.

It's also hilarious that he has all of these abilities and no skill in any of them. It really adds that extra Troutfactor.

I wouldn’t go that far, someone is still going to make an attempt. Everyone sits around, idly discussing over their empty bowls with much thanks leveled to Mark and Jackson for providing their meal, but eventually their conversation turns to the current situation. Reasoning there's no need to let good time go to waste, most of the Isekai victims disperse with the intent of gathering wood to fuel the.LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train. One however, decides to stay and ply the beginnings of his trade. Dante smiles down to the priestess, whose eyes dart over his large physique, visible even through the furs he's wearing as he speaks.

She gives a faint, shy smile when he asks for her name. "I'm Emiya. M-miyashita Emiya." A hand goes to her hair, flicking through it while she turns her head down to reveal the nape of her neck. "Wh-what's your-"

Across the snowswept field, a powerful voice booms and every head swivels to take in the sight of something so far beyond a mere man that they can't conceive it. His trenchcoat swishes in wind that isn't there, his sunglasses glint with otherworldly light, and each of the desert eagles (the most deadly pistol ever made by mankind) at his belt tell a testament of harsh wisdom earned through that age-old truth. Violence.

Nearby, Dante can overhear the two withered crones whispering with voices flushed with lust far beneath their years. "His wands are so hefty, so heavy..." "I bet his staff is packing some serious sorcery..." Before his disbelieving eyes, the innocent priestess's thighs clench together and she gasps as her pale face turns crimson. "O-oh m-m-my this isn't- thi-this isn't-" The meta-electrician's jaw drops when the warrior of a thousand sagas to be told, The Death Eater, approaches the pair and, not even deigning to notice him, drops the sharpest pickup line anyone in earshot has ever heard.

>>3921539
"S-so profound! I-I co- co-could never think of-" The magnificent, incomparable piece of mankind's essence made manifest in art made flesh tilts his head ever so slightly. Under that smoldering gaze, her virgin heart is set aflame with passion and her humble will is broken. Not a thought is spared for the shattered temple, nor the stolen three-pronged scepter of martyr's mourning, nor even the friends and family she lost so cruelly. Only him and gripping his immaculate, stern wrist with strength belying her fragile frame, she drags him into the frozen wilderness, bent on letting him have his way with her in any way she can.

Dante stares. His jaw closes. The pulse in his veins quickens. Rage. He has felt anger before, even spite, but this? This fury is beyond comprehension and must be channeled, lest he tear himself and every living thing around his apart. Time passes. Fifty pounds of logs lay split. His arms ache. He can't feel it. Hate, hate hate hate... No. He can't lash out. He won't. Not here. Not with all these people. Not with... her, still running her hand over his chest and giggling because the words won't come out. Dante decides. The woods...

The woods are good. Nothing there, no-one and no-thing but him and his thoughts. He abandons the clearing. They give no thought to him. So be it. He didn’t care. He doesn’t care. He never cared. Lying to himself, it’s a painful feeling. It builds up inside and won’t relent. It has to be let out. Where? A patch of empty dirt under unfeeling sky. Not good. But… It’s there and not a single soul is around to see.

>>3921528
>>3921534
The leaves around tremble. Dante’s muscles spasm with rage that demands an outlet. He raises an axe. The woods will- “GRAAAAGH!” The bushes part. A freak runs out, baying for blood. An interruption. It will not do. He hefts his axe. The wrath of the heavens flies out, flinging the wretch into a tree’s trunk. Bones break. It doesn’t care. Neither does Dante. He swings his axe with enough strength to smite an armoured knight’s skull.

It slumps just an inch. The axe misses. The handle is all that’s visible. Lightning leaves the spasming monster, it lunges. The axe was one setback too many. Dante’s been pushed over the brink and this corpse? It must die. Again. And again. And again and again and again. Snarling sounds, it doesn’t register. He doesn’t feel the pressure of its maw crumbling, doesn’t care when it tumbles end over end. The axe is rent from the tree. It must die. It rises, then falls with a downward swing. It will never stand again but he is lost to such sane trifles as triumph and glory. He is in a state of frothing frenzy.

There is only gore.

...

He sighs over the handle of the wood-axe, the handle’s intact but the edge is blunted and he hopes for the conductor’s sake that he has a sharpening tool or two stowed away. That… that felt good. It wasn’t his everyday, usual sort of thing but… Might not be so bad to really just let loose like that every once in a while. The man walks back, not quite knowing what to think of his first kill, and without further ado, returns to work. Catching sight of that smug bastard finally let the priestess pull him into the woods ushers in scorn.

A nearby cultist nods with an expression somewhere between a disappointed grimace and sad frown, then the two distract themselves sawing the trunks. Closer to the comforting shadow of the LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train, everyone else is well into overcoming the obstacles of primitive industry. Four-hundred and ten logs lay stacked in the train’s first car next to the three-thousand and eighty already there, and while some were more effective than others, each of the men take simple pride in an honest day’s job done well. A cultist is particularly impressed with Chase’s performance, mumbling. “Yhun’s really miss’t ye callin’, shoulda been in a sawmill ‘steada crypts and caves, ‘chaknow? Yeahuhn, so dis reminds me of a time I was out in the swamps, nuffin’ but the whip in my hand, and the biggest frog there, he says, he says ta me... RIBBIT!” The eccentric doubles over, wheezing laughter. “Had’cha goin’, yeahuhn…”

Meanwhile, the incarnation of inhuman audacity with every reason to be leaves the woods, zipping his trousers while the priestess staggers behind, leaning a tree, breathless. At the same time everyone else is hard at work stacking logs or tossing them into the furnace, Shi digs around in the back of another car, claims a stack of medicinal cotton for himself, and after stuffing his ears, goes spree-shooting in the woods.

It’s not so bad for a beginner, but it could be better, something that Mark’s alternate version, who’d taken a walk in the woods to enjoy the peace and silence without sylvan warcries, notices and decides to rectify. Fifteen minutes of amateur but experienced instruction later, Shi feels that he’s gotten a finer handle on his pistols but still doesn’t know the first thing about what he’s doing. Not that he’d ever admit that. Not to them, at least. Spinning around, he spots the priestess hiding behind a trunkle and she stumbles, shocked that she can feel the sly wink beneath his sunglasses. He’s just that smooth.

An hour later, the train is moving and growing a tentacle from his shoulder, the conductor rings the horn, blows a whistle, and tips his hat all at the same time. It might not be ideal, but it’s the closest to paradise he’s ever come and the smile won’t leave his face. Or his stomach, or his sides. The snowdrifts and rocky hills don’t make for a smooth ride but somehow, he knows almost everything he needs to, and manages to keep the train-ride steady without jostling any of the siderooms.

Someone fished out a pack of cards and between the thirteen and counting of them, the Isekai victims have a good time. Shi and Miyashita share a bunk but the walls are thicker than the average party member’s forearms and what they don’t see might as well not be there. At night, some opt to sleep on their furs in front of the rumbling furnaces, held in warmth between the heat of the fire and chill of the midnight air. This might not be peak comfy but it’s close, and makes all they’ve been through so far that much more worth it.

“What do you mean you want our weapons!?!” one of the more outspoken members of the party cried. The mustachioed guard at the city’s gate remained unmoved. “I’m deeply sorry sirs, but since our mayor heard of how the foul grave-knight destroyed a healing shrine and is still at large, he’s laid a ban on outsiders carrying weapons, shields, or wands in city limits. Only exception is guild members that can present a badge and ID card, no exception.” He glances over the party, and his sad eyes aren’t unsympathetic beneath the unibrow.

“Look, I don’t agree with the letter of the law but it’s the law and I swore an oath. You seem decent enough folk. Listen, mayor’s waived the entry toll on anyone coming inside, don’t need no fee or ID, just hand everything to me and I’ll stick it in a stout lockbox. Sign your name and what you’re leaving with us, and I swear on my soul to Zin that you’ll get it back if it’s in my power to give. Rumours of iron behemoths lumbering through the woods and ghoul packs stalking the trails. Might be some foreign cults hidden here or there but trust me, you’re better off inside than out. Now what’s it going to be? Here or some lawless hellhole?”

The cheats aren't remotely balanced and I knew that going in, but each one has its weaknesses and getting past the dual desert eagles, limited teleportation, and sex appeal, he's very much merely a mortal man. Lie, Dante, and Chase are arguably much more overpowered.

>>3921886
The Harem Protag cheat is not infallible. It doesn't guarantee that a woman will have sex, it only guarantees that they're interested. If they're currently engaged in combat, seduction has to pass an Average check at best, if there is more than woman in proximity, individual seduction is more difficult and can prompt negative reactions from the rest, and the men associated with them wanting his severed head mounted over their fireplace is a serious threat. He's only a single man and trying to keep dozens of women absolutely seething to get a piece of him mutually satisfied and out of intra-harem conflict may end poorly. Not to mention the risk of divine wrath from anyone of a number of deities, cultural demands that he support any of his eventual children, and women that have overstayed their welcome coming back with a bone to pick.

Also, the risk of seducing Yanderes. You rarely know until it's too late to back out.

A cool priest, Nice.
>>
>>3921943
I’m not complaining about his actual power (though he and pretty much everyone else would kick my ass if a fight were to break out at this juncture). I’m mostly concerned about things getting derailed and everything devolving into one upping each other, shitty romance dialogue, and female NPCs who are about as intelligent as they are useless.
>>
>>3921948
It's a bit amusing to me that we've got a traditional Catholic priest and an Egyptian pagan priest, both of which can invoke their respective deities to perform tangible miracles.
>>
>>3921953
It works if you go for the whole, "divines are entities created by mortal belief and sustained by mortal devotion" angle.
>>
>>3921951
I've been trying to give everyone equal amounts of screen-time, and I assure you, if I have to make a godsdamned chart and roll table to keep haremshit in the backgroun regulated, I will make a godsdamned chart and roll table to keep harem shit in the background regulated. Sex in storytelling isn't about the act itself, it's about the context and character development that builds up around it. Shi's deadpan steamroll over Dante was deeply amusing from a meta-standpoint, and led to a great in-character moment for him, even if the writing was jilted. That's what I've been aiming for in this quest, different players playing off of each other while the Mythic system and setting I've dug out of my ass keeps everything coherent.

If anything's going to be throwing the game off the rails it's going to be the LeTourneau diesel-electric transmission overland train but if and when it happens, I'll do everything I can to make sure everyone involved has a fun time, because I sure fucking am. Running this for all of you has been a blast, and I feel more motivated as a QM than I've ever been because I'm not telling the story, I'm recording it.
>>
>>3921954
I prefer to keep it unexplained and let the theological debate or lack thereof simmer.
>>
>>3921956
It’s good to know that you’ll take an active approach to any potential snares. Most QMs would simply lean back and let the shitstorm wash away all of the potential the quest may have had. In fact, many encourage it. This is a good change of pace so good in fact that I’ve only been playing this mythic quest and the other one for the past few days. I’m definitely going to experience some whiplash once all of this comes to a close.

>>
>>3921963
Not only weapons, but wands. Casting spells without a focus for the visualising essence receives a -1 RS penalty, -2 RS if it's significantly risky. Shooting acid out of a stick is one thing, streaming it from the palms of your hand is another. Like most weaknesses, there are techniques or classes that mitigate the downside, but it's rare for a magic user to be completely comfortable without their object of choice.

>>3921966
No problem, I'll just retroactively say you studied, same as Alex, Anon, Chase, and anyone else I'm probably forgetting. The impact of time doesn't disappear because the narrative wasn't focused on it.
>>
We don't even really need to go to this city. We only detoured out of convenience and the fact that our ability to protect ourselves is going to be impaired makes this not worth it.

Also on the meta end I don't want to fuck around in this city and I would rather get to the Taemorden as soon as possible.
>>
>>3921963
Of course, your Electric Conduit cheat is bound your soul, so you don't need a tool for optimal ampere generation. It's not true magic though, it's electricity, which is arguably every whit as terrifying to deal with.
>>
>>3921970
I did come in after things were decided, but why did we come here first?
>>
>>3921970
I'll divulge that Caelkirk has a much larger and livelier market than Taedmorden, and while the equipment for sale here isn't free in the slightest sense of the word, there's plenty of rumours circulating through a community this size. That said, Taedmorden has an abundance of benefits as well. Party's choice, it'll be interesting to see either way around.

>>3921976
It was on the route and they wanted to check it out first.
>>
>>3921978
What I'm saying is that the party voted to come here as a short detour, and overall we don't find the no weapons stipulation to be acceptable so I see no reason to compromise for something that isn't our main objective.

Getting past the guards is one thing, but after we get into the city, will we be able to purchase new equipment there? I kinda wanted to buy a better staff / wand.
Is it possible to enter the city, quickly join the adventurer's guild, and thus be exempt from this no weapons rule?
>>
>>3922017
We don't have shit for money you know. That was kind of the point of going to Taemorden. Also fuck the guild. It's a corrupt, socialist institution and even more egregiously it's a cliche.
>>
>>3922004
>>3922017
>after entering the city can we buy new weapons?
>can we just join the adventurers guild to ignore this rule?

Anyone who can't stand going in without packing heat can just wait outside. Most of us don't even have weapons.
>>
>>3922017
I’d say the majority of the party is against joining any sort of guild. Besides as i (and later Chase) stated, we aren’t here to stay so we may as well leave if we were only planning on taking a rest here. The train pretty much made this city pointless for the time being.
>>
>>3922025
Nobody is forcing you to join any guild you don't want to. Conversely, nobody is forcing me to abstain from joining whatever guild(s) I want.
>>
>>3922026
Then go, I never said you couldn’t, I’m just saying that most of us will avoid doing so. In 1-2 posts you can give up your stuff, enter, and join. It seems as if you’re almost uncomfortable with your choice.
>>
>>3922028
I just want to ascertain the situation.
Sometimes the adventurer's guild has a hefty entry fee, which as you surmised, is not currently possible for any of us to pay. Sometimes it's completely free and even gives out lots of free shit like a magic ID card that lists your current stats and skills. It'd also be good to get recognition and pay for any good deeds we might do later accidentally. I'd like to hear exactly how convenient or inconvenient the conditions are before making a decision.

I'm not some kind of emo brat who makes his decisions based on whether it's "cliche", but instead based on whether the conditions are favorable or unfavorable.
>>
>>3922022
Are you sure that splitting the party is a good idea?
>>
>>3922035
Why are you still here? Just put the lotion in the basket and sign up. What do you think I’ll kick you out of something if I don’t approve? If you think it’s worth it then prove it by refusing to argue with me and tell OP that you’ll comply. It’s that simple.
>>
>>3922035
Lie. Nobody else besides you wants to go in the fucking city and nobody gives a shit about the guild. I hear your what ifs and quite frankly I don't give a damn about this citystate's little adventure's club.

Now you can ride your little high horse and project your brattiness onto everyone if you want to but don't expect anyone else to wait for you while you fuck around on your own.

So here’s my plan. We can either make the mayor and the guildmaster come to us and offer them the train service in exchange for goods
>>
>>3922201
I would rather just head to the next town over where we can get equipment and a place to stay in exchange for doing quests for the guy. Come to think of it, we are supposed to kill someone spreading rumors about the lord of Taemorden in this town, so it's probably a good idea to try to get that done while we're here.

I wonder how OP will handle this dilemma? I deally everyone should take responsibility and take fulll ownership of their own actions. If we keep going on like a rat wheel nothing will ever get done.
>>
>>3922384
It's annoying that some people are just doing random shit instead of coordinating with the group.
>>
>>3922412
In a similar vein to the guild principle, the group doesn’t have to stay together, we all could’ve split as soon as we got here. Obviously the game will get bogged down for a while if OP has to keep up with 10+ characters running around going through completely unrelated plotlines.

>>3922354
If the plan is that the team’s rogues will infiltrate the city, steal some things and get back to the others I may be up for that.
>>
>>3922428
If we do go in the city, I have no strong feelings either way, I also have plans to make some money.Basically I create a strong lightsource and hold a shadow puppet show, my cheat should at least make the whole thing LOOK cool enough to get some coin
>>
I don't see why we can't spend a couple hours or a day in the city. At least check things out before heading out. Time isn't an issue with the train.
>>
>>3922436
It probably won’t be enough. Anything worth buying here is likely to be pretty expensive aside from something like some boots or a tunic.
>>
>>3922428
If we're going to do so coordination with our resource gathering I would be up for it. I'm certain we could run a good grift between our abilities and as long as Shi's around we have some insurance.
>>

>>3922471
So Terry, I suggest that we work together when we go in. I'll scan for unaware targets with Death Perception and you pickpocket them. You can give me your phone so I can feed you information from a distance. Sound like a plan?
>>
>>3922482
What was the plan here anyway? I know we were passing through but nothing was ever specified. Lie just suggested it and everyone simply followed. At first it made sense since we had limited food and needed shelter, but with the train those problems have practically vanished. We could get to the other town in a day and do some jobs for that warlord to get some cash. At this point I’m sure that half of the people who want to go to the city don’t even know why they want to go, and the other half want to join the guild.
>>
>>3922507
It's total nonsense but if people really want to go I guess I'll indulge them. It's like being a mother, sometimes you have to do something to alleviate the bitching and keep the kids entertained.

No reason we can't make some real progress while we're doing it though.
>>
>>3922512
There is no progress to be made. Our options here are street preforming, robberies, and faggy slime killing quests from the guild. If we came here with money and we were actually planning on buying something I’d be more inclined to go in.

Aside from stealing quality armor and weapons from stores, every other plan that’s been brought up is either pointless or redundant.
>>
>>3922512
As I said I'm fine either way but yeah a lot seem to want to go to this city
>>
>>3921961
Nothing stopping you from running a quest yourself, I'm sure you'd do a fair shake at it.

>>3921963
Every Warrior starts out with a rusty and crudely-forged sword, mace, or axe and a shoddy, flimsy buckler at their discretion, each Rogue begins with a sharpened copper dagger, each Sorcerer with a wand for focusing their spells, and each Priest with a holy symbol and text, if applicable. Anyone that went without a class doesn't have anything but the clothes on their backs but with two cheats and enough luck or cunning, likely doesn't need them.

>>3921997
Let's hope David's okay, whatever else is going on.

>>3922010
Certainly. It's essentially an exponential multiplier to any aesthetic you have, just standing with your hands at your side makes you seem like a stoic badass to anyone nearby, but actually doing something impressive, such as singlehandedly slaying a monster or calling down the wrath of Ra is indescribable.

>>3922017
None of you have any currency in the local denominations and most of the high-end equipment was salvaged from dangerous ruins, so it doesn't part cheap. Even so, your skills are versatile enough there's a high likelihood you could garner enough to make a purchase or two. You can attempt to join the adventurer's guild if you like, but your image in the sight of some locals would suffer and for all the safety net and training it offers, your autonomy is limited by a strict set of guidelines. No ban on taking a look around, but it's unusual for an unaffiliated sorcerer to be browsing a guildhouse.

>>3922025
>>3922026

>>
>>3922524
I tried running a quest once, but my uploading was far too inconsistent. Being one voice in the crowd or creating and managing my own character come effortlessly to me, but it’s hard to find the motivation to work on something creative. I actually have a little side project I’ve been crafting for some time now, but I haven’t touched it in weeks.
>>
>>3922519
I think if we put our heads together we can salvage something from this damnable detour. Small crime and street performance aren't enough to make it worthwhile. It varies from ten seconds to as long as ten minutes, how long you can hand off your desert eagles varies depending on the context. There's no limit to the amount of desert eagles, uzis, and ammunition you can summon besides the time limit. You could be brandishing five belt's worth, no problem, but since the summoning's instant, it'd mostly be for aesthetic benefits.

Hoo boy, yall got busy while I was in class. Here's my main question. Generally a city is built upon 4 areas which consists of the high class, mid class, low class, and slums. Since we plan to hit something worthwhile we're either aiming for the high class area or the mid class area. Which area does the group agree to scout?
>>
>>3922729
Middle class. High class probaly has magic locks.
>>
>>3922720
The last thing we need is a shining beacon in the dead of night. It’s best if nothing out of the ordinary occurs on the night we do this. I’d put you in as the guard dispatcher. You could take out a guard within seconds if you get the jump on him.
>>3922729
If we’re going to make the most of this, we shouldn’t walk around as a big group. I’d say two teams of three would be best.

>>
>>3922736
Didn't think of that. Middle class it is. Now to narrow down our target, do we want any random house at OP's discretion for this filler event or do we wanna aim for one of the houses near the merchants and things?

Not sword. Axe. Axes are more effective for general use, and swords, although elegant and cool sidearms, aren't all that effective against anything better than chainmail due to a lack of armor penetration compared to battlefield weapons. In any case, having an opponent with a differing weapon would help you get used to fighting against anyone not using a sword.

So we made it in that's good. Shi can head to the whorehouse and gather information about the guy that's spreading rumours if any of us still wanna do that side quest. People spill information when drunk and sleeping with prostitutes and all that.

Anyone wanna see if they can do the Control Tactics shop spar thing. Preferably, someone that can actually do fighting that isn't primarily based on lethal strikes.

Alex, how tall are you again? Kinda need to know so I can check if you wanna come with me to hit up the gnome's shop since the other places might not have any armor that can fit imps.

Those with High Will can try the spy shop's "test of will"

>>
>>3922809
Wonderful! I ask for an axe or saw and get to work. I also inquire if he needs any finer processing done, as that's where my skill lies.
>>
>>3922813
The way I see it each team needs three components: the infiltrator, the guard dispatcher, and the pack mule. The infiltrators would obviously be the rogues and they’ll break into the shop. The dispatchers should be able to take out any patrolling guard who gets in the way quickly and quietly. The pack mule would ideally be someone with a stand but unfortunately one is in a coma, another has been absent for awhile, and another is needed on the getaway squad.

>>3922774
>I join Dante to go to the Spy Trials shop to question about this 'tests of will'
>>
>>3922834
Even though I am not in on it, I recommend literally any other shop. That shop is the one owned by a smith of the Forge God who has outsparred all but 4 customers so far, and he exclusively deals in weapons, which should clue you into his clientele. If he catches anyone but Chase they're fucked.
>>
>>3922836
If they work anything like real suppressors it won’t matter in this instance.

>>3922839
You shouldn’t have your attention divided, once the infiltrates break in they’ll pretty much be half rate pack mules. The dispatcher should only be focused on defending the others and if they were to carry any merchandise it should only be weapons which they have equipped or armor that is easy to put on.

>>3922849
You don't gotta kill em. Just knock em out so they stay unconscious long enough. Plus, like I said earlier if we wanna get souls and ones that are more morally black instead of white then we might run into bandits along the way to the next city. We are in a train and they might jump on to see what we have to loot. Bandits generally aren't smart unless we're up against like a Warlord of a Bandit King/Queen.

So without any doubt that monk is gonna be my teacher with that description OP. Definitely gonna need that kind of willpower to pull off all sorts of limit breaking and a Kenpachi.

>>3922950
OP gave the answer about the soul sensing so if you're feeling is telling you that their sinners then go ham my guy.
>>
>>3922952

That's good to know, I'll go try and win Yokoyama over next time you start taking rolls. I was considering the guild but only when I know enough magic or have items that can hide my outward appearance. Charisma or not, it'll be a hard selling getting casters to teach me how to magic.

>>3922964

I'm getting Kamen Rider W/Soultaker/Devilman vibes here.
>>
>>3922968
Probably. My whole plan right now is a mix between Old Man of the Mountain from FGO for the Rogue/Assassin part. Kenpachi/Zoro for the Willpower. And Yamamoto from DMC for the concept cutting like how he cuts space. All 4 for swordsmanship skill. Just waiting for OP's update so I can hope the dice will lemme get this monk as a teacher. If he's gonna be mine and Dante's teacher does that mean he's coming with cause we aren't living in this city after the heist that's for sure.
>>
>>3922968
I can tutor in magic. Or in Calculus. I wonder if anyone in this world would pay me to teach them Calculus.

>>3922524
I'd like to check out this "Adventurer's Guild". Hear more about these restrictions in detail. Introduce myself, see what services they have to offer, what quests are on the board (can anyone take quests or just guild members?).
>>
Wow, I missed a lot.
>>
>>3923015
Terry! Just the man we needed.
>>
>>3923015
Welcome back Terry. Take a bit to catch up xD.
>>
>>3923020
What’s up?

>>3923022
I’ve already seen Shi’s exploits. The man is clearly a hacker. Also congrats to both you and Dante on those rolls with the monk.
>>
>>3923029
we need you on the infiltration team.
>>
>>3923039
So what are we just doing this in broad daylight now?
>>
>>3923048
God no. This will be a night time gig.
>>
>>3923048
Nothing's happened yet, you're just scoping things out.
>>
>>3923048
Shi might as well be considering he knocked out a woman and is already thrifting through the store
>>
>>3922982
>>3922996

Any help is appreciated so thank you for that. I'm keeping it simple with one hand dedicated for swordplay while the other cast spells or etch them onto my blade for quick casting.
>>
>>3923051
>>3923052
Well Shi already went full throttle so I assumed people felt as if they needed to follow in his footsteps. Saying that I’m needed right after this little stunt just made me assume that things had suddenly converted into a mad dash.

>>3923053
Yeah, let’s hope no one goes there often.
>>
>>3923065
Shi will be Shi everyone else wants a good mark.
>>
>>3923069
When life gives you lemons you squeeze those lemons in lifes eyes and take anything of value off them.
>>
>>3923065
Ehhhhhh not so much as Shi can just convince half the world to look away so we're still looking at the 6 different shops as viable targets for now. Well 4 since 1 is literally a badass monk me and Dante are talking too whereas the other is a blacksmith with the sparring challenge for a discount. Both could probably wipe out our group.

>>3923082
You might be qualified for the rogue class after this city. Especially with a sentence like that.
>>
>>3923069
It’s going to be a looong campaign.

>>3923090
Lets get a cage match sanctioned.
>>
>>3923082
Fun Fact! We actually made lemons! We made the lemons specifically TO squeeze into life's eyes!
>>
Oh, Jack how many logs you giving the guy?
>>
>>3923112
>>3923082

But I actually like eating lemons with sugar.
>>
>>3923124
I had intended to find some work, not sell him the fuel.
>>
Goodnight to all, except you Shi, you mugged an alchemist and that's rude.

Update's coming in two seconds if you want to stay up a little later.

The Isekai victims are grievously affronted by the guard’s insistence they relinquish their weapons, and filled with that all-too familiar disdain for loud men in empty uniforms, one steps forward. Dante cracks his knuckles in-front of the watchman’s eyes, insinuates that he is a cockbrain, and brings his aura of lust to its limit. He stares, unibrow twitching for several seconds before the feeling sinks to the bottom of his stomach, his eyes go wide with panic, and he takes off in a dead sprint to his barracks and the closest bucket he can find. Their triumph is short-lived as a second, even more mustachioed man steps into his place without missing a beat. For some seconds they consult among themselves, then both of the holy men there decide to sway this soldier through the power of faith.

Miracle is the first to approach and explains the importance of an armed population in trying times such as these, but he is unswayed by his immaculate logic. The second to make his play is Danny, the priest of Ra who arrived out of nowhere in the middle of their transit. Last he remembers before the combine harvester rolled over him was staring into the sun and praying for something to save him, which it didn’t, but now he’s here and looking good doing it. He is legitimately impressed by his manner of speaking and nearly pulls his lip’s hairs off chewing at them, but like the man he replaced, he swore an oath and refuses to budge. Not caring to see whether the party manages to convince the guardsmen or not, Terry, Mark, and a duplicate of the latter sneak around the fool while he’s distracted.

Each is still carrying their daggers, which could be irrelevant or life-saving, all else depending. Behind them comes the rest of the party more conventionally, handing over their implements of war with various amounts of enthusiasm. No-one tried to sneak anything in but some likely could have managed it. While they were sneaking in and the priests were debating, the rest began discussing the possibility of a heist and most came to the conclusion that the benefits far outweigh the risk. Terry was initially hesitant to enter the city, but Chase’s insistence that his Death Count would make their jobs much easier convinced him not to oppose the proposition out of hand.

They then split into smaller groups and disperse to try and gather as much intelligence as possible. Three decided to leave on their own, either out of moral objections or conflicting interests in the heist, Jackson, Shi, and Lie. The rarely eldritch train conductor decided to forget about the thievery and find a carpenter willing to part with some of their useless sawdust, but came across Kelzu, a chubby little person with a pointy noise and neon-green sock hat around half his height. They started talking, with Jackson finding it stunning when he introduced himself as a gnome, something that the carpenter found so amusing he went ahead and flipped the anachronistic sign to his door closed

A genuinely friendly conversation over the finer details of cooking and woodworking began in earnest, before Jackson asked whether or not he would be willing to part with some surplus sawdust. Forlorn, Kelzu replied that while he would love to, since the spontaneous disappearances of woodsmen kicked off there hasn’t been so much as a single stick in his storeroom and he’s had no idea where he’s going to get a fresh supply. The gnome seems filled with dread. “I don’t know how I’ll get to spring, no wood to carve, no way to sell. Ovva gnomes hate my guts, I hate them and humans are no bettah. Bad, bad, real bad deal, but I tell you what, I’ll give you a silva coin for every four gnome-weights of log you bring in.” Kelzu explains that a gnome-weight is equivalent to five pounds and while he’d be pleased to have his assistance processing it, he needs raw material more than anything.

Elsewhere, the deliverer of doom and epitome of excellence, the death eater wandered through the streets and alleys of Caelkirk in search of an establishment owned and operated by a member of the fairer sex. It took a bit of doing, but eventually an alchemist’s shop turned up, with a lean and mousy woman watching the counter and when he walked through the door, she didn’t let him get a word out. Blind terror tinted only by sexual passion filled her eyes and she flung a kunai with unerring precision to slash his heart apart, only to gasp as he vanished into thin air. She only had two seconds to go into hysterics before the gold-plated bottom of an ivoury-handled desert eagle crashed into the back of her skull.

As the girl went unconscious, he took to pilfering the store, gathering twenty-three gold and twenty-two silver coins from her pockets. They make a nice jingle in his trenchcoat, but given her sudden paranoia, he can’t help but wonder whether alchemy’s really that valuable, or this store was more than it appeared. Flipping the sign to closed, he began ransacking the cupboards and found the following:

> He can take as many bottles and bags as he has Inventory slots, (2/10)
> Three green and bubbling potions that seem to warm his hand through the glass
> One piss-yellow and sizzling potion that feels almost boiling through the dark-tinted glass
> Two purple and syrupy potions that seem to be much closer to jello than any water
> Four small potions that change heat and colour every second, hidden behind the rest
> One bottle of a beverage that can only be sake, sitting next to an empty one in the back
> Nine bite-sized rice cakes slathered in tasty honey and hidden in a small, brown bag
> Two small, brown bags filled with pouches of a shimmering, multicoloured powder

> What does he want to take, drink, or do?

The wizard searches for the adventurer’s guild while commoners are too busy staring at their shoes or gawking at his hat in humble awe to answer any inquiries for directions. Not too far away, Chase, Terry, and a couple of others are discreetly examining potential targets for what are going to be no-doubt genius plans. It takes some time, but they narrow it down to six feasible targets along with their apparent weaknesses. Someone foresighted had the clever idea to write down a list for reference.

>1) Zazar’s Exotic Fruits and Everyday Needs: A large, well-lit, and centrally located store not far from the adventurer’s guildhouse. Its primary claim to fame is a wide selection of juicy fruits from the distant south, brought back bizarrely fresh, and the rest of its relevant stock consists of quality ropes, tools, and torches waiting to be lit. (Death Count) The store is constantly going through customers and Zazar’s insistence on not needing an assistant has left him vulnerable to shoplifting, but this close to the adventurer’s guild, outright theft might go poorly.
> 2) The Place of Chains Shattered and Forged Anew: A tiny, pitch-black stall in an alleyway near the center of town, close to Zazar’s but nowhere near as busy. It doesn’t sell anything, it gives away scrolls detailing an esoteric and terrifying martial art that monks and priests alike would frown on. (Death Count) The stall is run by a rare member of the Hellmonk class and without a handful of Paladins and High Priests, it would be unwise to tamper with.

>>
>>3923215
> 3) Horgrim’s Hearth: A midsize, filthy, and foul-smelling store in the middle of town, equally far from the outskirts and mayor’s home. It is essentially a subpar version of Zazar’s, selling far inferior pieces of equipment to cheap adventurers and hardtack instead of fruit. Its only good quality is the fact that its rude owner is a skilled appraiser of magical artifacts and willing to do so for a small fee. (Death Count) The gnome’s bodyguard is a Cutthroat well on his way to being a Thug but his lack of a work ethic means he’s sleeping on the job half the time and Horgrim doesn’t have any actual magic.
> 4) The Dunkhift’s Family Forge: A midsize, clean, and approachable smithy closer to the center of town than the outskirts. It is a family operation and its current owner, Jegrim the fourth, a skilled but unspecialised smith that does a wide variety of work, mostly fixing wagons and shoeing horses, but he does possess some pricy armours and blades which, while not masterwork, can do the deed. (Death Count) Jegrim is a mediocre fighter at best and his store is in a little patrolled part of town, but his reputation among the townsfolk is quite high and the bounty put on a suspected thief’s head would be massive.
> 5) Brunnarth’s Shrine: A small, cramped, and almost-hidden smithy situated on the outskirts of town, as close to the gates as physically possible. It is a one man operation, run by Brunnarth, an experienced Armsmaster and fanatic follower of Okawaru, who forges masterwork blades in worship and sells them at exorbitant prices. If someone can beat the man in a sparring match, he’ll reduce the cost to covering the material and nothing more. (Death Count) The fact that he maintains the policy and isn’t bankrupt in a center for the adventurer’s guild speaks for itself, but around sixty percent of the time he’s too busy coming to friendly blows with local warriors to tend his smithy and there’s a slight chance a weapon or two could be stolen and taken far away enough that he wouldn’t find you.
> 6) The “Incenstuous” Inn: A midsize house of ill repute, named for its constant burning of incense and its crass owner’s compulsion to shove as much innuendo in the public eye as possible. It boasts twelve full-time employees and fourteen anonymous part-timers, with a policy of wearing garish masks while “working.” (Death Count) The brothel is guarded by a pair of common scoundrels who barely know one end of a club from another, widely disdained by the increasingly pious populace, and rakes in its funds catering to outwardly ordinary adventurers that don’t want to be seen publicly defending it.

Away from Chase’s group, Dante and Anon have already entered The Place of Chains Shattered and Forged Anew. It is an extremely dark and spartan structure despite the fire crackling near the back, and an older man rippling with a lifetime of hard training’s muscle from head to toe greets them. Though he is clad in pitch-black robes and his crisp voice can only be described as sinister, something in his syllables excites their psyches and that barely abates as they see him twist a thin iron rod in the flames. “Come, do you? Come to see and confess? Or to throw down empty words and grip dull steel in the instant before your death?”
>>
I'm thinking the shrine for weapons or the "Inn" for cash.
>>
>>3923224
"What is this place? Is this a church, I don't think I have any sins to confess?"
>>
Rolled 94, 54, 44, 82, 85, 94, 3, 66, 36, 23 = 581 (10d100)

>>3923230
No offense but the shrine is something while I might be able to attempt I don't wanna risk it. The inn however is something I mentioned that Shi might be able to do but the alchemist situation makes me concerned how the dice are gonna treat him.

>>3923224
I'm guessing that's the end of the update right now and we're free to take action OP?

I come out of Dante's satchel and walk up to the monk to look at him straight in the eyes with a deadpan face.

"I have come to inquire about these tests of will of yours but as young an imp as I may be I can sense how black your soul is and I wish to learn the ways to how you've obtained such an unbending will."
>>
>>3923211
Shi, quite literally made out like a bandit.

>>3923218
The hearth, forge, and shrine should be our targets.

> Two small potions that change heat and colour every second, hidden behind the rest
> Two small, brown bags filled with pouches of a shimmering, multicoloured powder

>Shi then places the bottle of saki next to the shop keeper and uses his shadow step to get back to the train.

Rolling incase you wanted me to.
>>
>>3923252
Without a doubt Shi did. I think the Hearth is easy enough but the Forge and Shrine might be more difficult.

I'm just hoping that the 3 was good enough for the monk to be my teacher.

>>3923224
Hey OP, is the 'tests of will' gonna raise our Willpower stat?
>>
>>3923243
A thin smile crosses the old man's lips as he sets the rode aside and wags his finger. "This is no house of worship. It is a temple of trial and tribulation. I can smell it. There is potential in you, it fills the air and permeates this place."

>>3923250
"Power through pain I promise, pain through power the creed I preach. Only the will able to overcome both is worthy. Strength of limb can be trained but a feeble mind deserves only to be broken."

Can you grab the kunai before you go?

>>3923264
It’s only dangerous if people catch us in the act. You’d probably be best for the more difficult ones due to your shadow powers and small size.

No, but if you manage to pass, it will give you the chance to get started on a rare subclass of the Monk tree.

>>3923280
Huh. Forgot about those facts. Yeah I can dim the lightings, spread the size of the shadows, teleport through the shadows, probably muffle sounds?, and definitely small. Add High Stealth, Lockpicking, Dexterity, and Agility and the only thing stopping me would be the dice.

Oh wait I already rolled nvm about these dice then
