Welcome to Young Justice: Meta Human Slave Quest. You are Joseph Mercer. From a young age you excelled academically, to the point where the school curriculum was often too easy for you, and ultimately as a preteen you skipped a few grades and went to high school early. You continued to excel, and even as an underage freshmen took advance courses such as AP Biology. Unfortunately, your nature as a Nerd and your relative youth compared to your classmates made it hard to make friends, and by your second year of high school at the age of fourteen you had ended up as a solitary wallflower. Feeling bad for yourself and with your self confidence at an all time low, you responded to a self help advertisement online. This proved to be a horrible mistake. When you got to the address from the add you were kidnapped by Meta-human traffickers and experimented on, gaining the power to control and manipulate your flesh. You were then implanted with a control device and thrown into some sort of super villain school with a number of other kidnapped teenagers. After spending some time at the school, you've found a group of friends, and started to learn to use your powers. You've also discovered a conspiracy to slowly brainwash you and the other students into willing servants of the HIVE. When we left off you had just finished visiting a comatose Caitlin, who had been hospitalized by “disciplinary action” carried out by the Asset Protection teacher following your pop quiz. Seeing Caitlin lying in a hospital bed made you realize how precarious your situation was, and you resolved to intensify your efforts to escape by seeing if you could use your powers to go without sleep and give yourself more time to train and study. Ralph calls good night to you as he head to his room, and you barely have the presence of mind acknowledge him with a nod as you slip into your room. It’s late, nearly time for lights out, and the days events have left you exhausted both emotionally and physically, but your mind is buzzing. You need to get out of here. You need to get your friends out of here. Caitlin’s condition has made that abundantly clear. To do that you need a way around your implant, a way to free yourself and the others from the threat of the Father Boxes, which means you need better control of your powers, but that takes practice. Time, it all comes down to time. Seven months to escape before Wax finishes rewriting your minds and making you all willing servants to your captors. Roughly thirty days in a month average. Perhaps two or three hours a day that you can dedicate to escape preparations if you maintain the same routine that you have thus far. Roughly 600+ hours to prepare, assuming you dedicate all of your spare time to your goal. Assuming nothing interferes. You recall an, admittedly controversial, study that stated to become an expert at something took approximately 10,000 hours of dedicated study. Controversial because a number of scientists had contested the claims on the basis that some individuals learned faster and some failed to produce results even given the requisite time. Regardless of the validity of the study if you are going to be gambling not only your life, but your friends lives on your ability to use your powers to free them from their implants, it makes sense to have as much practice under your belt as you can get. Just saying, “I’m smart It’ll be fine” like you had in some of your high school classes and going with the flow isn’t going to cut it.No, better to get as much preparation as you can before you attempt your break out. Your days are regimented, you won’t get more time there. The only way to give yourself more time will be to cut into your sleep. A risky proposition to be certain. Your body needs sleep. People have literally died because they tried to keep going without sleep for too long. But you aren’t like other people, you can cheat, because Meta-humans are bullshit. You were able to heal an injury that should have laid you up for days if not weeks in moments after mammoth threw you around and tore your leg out of joint, and you’ve literally made yourself grow a foot and pack on a dozens of kilos in a few hours. Sleep, and the results of a lack thereof on the body, are biological processes. You should be able to control them, mitigate the effects of staying up a bit longer. And if you can? If you can make your body function without sleep? Staying up an additional three hours would literally double the amount of time you have to prepare for your breakout, staying up six would triple it. With that kind of time you might just make it.
>>3848377You’ll start tonight, keep it simple, try staying up an additional three hours or so and monitor the effects on your body, see what you can do, and then get some sleep and see how you feel in the morning. You decide to spend the time exploring a new application of your power, trying to give yourself night vision. You understand the biological mechanism behind the superior night vision of many nocturnal predators, namely an additional reflective layer behind the retina called the Tapetum lucidum in their eyes which increases the amount of light available to their eyes photo receptors. Way you figure it, night vision will probably come in handy during the breakout, and its a relatively simple and hopefully safe thing to try and figure out, so after the lights go out you lie in your bed and you focus your attention on the cells in your eyes. Through the additional senses your power has given you, you feel each component of your eyes. You study the composition of your cornea, the arrangement of the rods and cones, and you contemplate how to go about your experiment. Humans have no naturally occurring Tapetum. You don’t have a pattern to follow you can simply copy or cause to grow, you’ll have to be a bit more creative than that and figure things out through trial and error. One of the purposes of your Cornea is to refract light in conjunction with your eyes’ lens. It’s a long shot, but perhaps by properly applying a refractive layer to the back of your eyes you can bounce the light around sufficiently to get some back to your photo receptors. Carefully you focus with your powers on your right eye, and you experiment by adding a few cells, and then breaking them back down, making sure that you can reverse the effects of your actions before committing to any large changes. You’ve always been able to in the past, but best to be sure. You don’t want to end up blinding yourself by mistake and not be able to fix it. After ascertaining that you are indeed able to reabsorb and break down your creation without any difficulty, you close your left eye and start experimenting with coating the back of your right eye with bastardized configurations of the cells found in your cornea, trying one variation and then another. Frankly it doesn’t work well. The cells that make up your cornea really aren't designed to reflect light and there's only so much you can do to alter them to make them fit your purpose. Two hours in and you’ve been able to find a configuration that does brighten up the room a bit, making it seem dimly lit rather than truly dark, but it makes everything horribly blurry. You keep playing with it for an hour more, and refine it a bit and bring things a bit more into focus by trying to change the composition of the cells further. Still it seems ineffective. You’ll need to keep working on it if you want to truly create effective night vision. Or eat the eyes of something with night vision but...ugh.
>>3848388You remove the new layer of cells from the back of your eye and then turn your attention elsewhere, using your powers to feel out the state of your body. You notice some wear and tear on your veins and heart, so you patch those up. The hormone levels of your blood seem different you think. Belatedly you realize you don’t have a healthy baseline to compare to. In your fervor to get started you failed to consider what sort of preparations you would need to make for your idea to work. You don’t know what your blood and other cells should be like when you aren’t sleep deprived. Without that knowledge you can’t really effectively even things out. You’ll need to establish that baseline before you’ll be able to effectively stay up without consequences, but you think you’ll be able to do it. You’ll just need a few days of good sleep and careful monitoring of your condition before bed, as you wake up, and throughout the day, in order to figure out where things should be. Maybe read some medical papers. Realizing there’s nothing for it at this point and you’ll just have to do better in the future you go to sleep. You need to get what rest you can, but at this point it won’t be much. Tomorrow, or rather today, Is going to be long. Breakfast is a subdued affair. Caitlin still hasn’t rejoined you, and your friends all pick at their food silently. You take some bitter satisfaction in noticing that the group around white hair this morning is much smaller than it had been last night. Several of the other teens have fractured and formed a fourth group. The only people who’ve stuck by the Gothamite are the redheaded girl and the tall Vlatavan skinhead. The flying blonde you’d seen sitting with him in the past is sitting with her back to frosty very pointedly ignoring him, and the redhead keeps casting her eyes between the two of them. Seems like what you said got through to at least a few people. Finishing breakfast you quietly head to class, keeping your eyes peeled for Caitlin. She's part of your class, and they said she'd be waking up today, so she should be there right?Interpersonal relations is hell. Sensei takes delight in working you all to the bone it seems, though you’d never know it looking at the guys face. Perfectly flat emotionless mask, it barely wavers even when he’s screaming at someone. He runs you through combat drills and body strengthening exercises until you drop and then zaps you with the father box to heal you up a bit and tells you to get up and keep going. By the end of the day you’re an aching sweaty mess and still haven’t seen Cait, and you’re starting to worry. You thought she was supposed to have been taken off the meds that were keeping her under, she should be here.
>>3848396You take the stairs two at a time on your way to the cafeteria. Will she be there? Is she alright? Oh please let there not have been unforeseen complications, let her be okay. You throw open the doors and look over at your regular table, and sag a bit in relief when you see a familiar red mane of hair. She’s sitting at the table next to Tara, they’re both smiling, bent over slightly cooing over a...cat? You take a few steps closer so you can see more clearly. Tara’s holding a kitten, a little ball of fluff, that Caitlin and the blonde are fussing over. What the fuck? Where did Tara get a kitten? You forgo getting your dinner, you can go grab it after you check on Cait and see what’s up with the cat. “Cait, I’m so glad to see you.” You tell your friend as you slide into your seat. “How are you feeling?” “Better” she says, turning away from the kitten to favor you with a warm smile. “Thank you for worrying about me.”As you contemplate what to say next, tact ain't exactly your strong point and you want to do this right, the kitten mewls drawing your attention. “What’s with the Cat?” You blurt out without thinking, then kick yourself a bit inside. Good going jackass, your friend just got out of the hospital and after a perfunctory "you okay" you let yourself get distracted by a cat. Great job. Shit how do you apologize to Cait for that? Should you?“My teacher gave him to me today in class.” Tara says softly pulling you out of your head. “I… it is embarrassing but I cried in class today. He pulled me aside and I thought he would be very cross with me, but he gave me a kitty instead.” That’s...>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student. >Kind of odd, maybe they’re trying to build up some good will with the student body after what happened with Cait and the old man is too socially awkward to go about it in a more subtle manner? >Great, it’s good to see your friends happy and the cat makes them happy. Tara’s teacher must be the decent sort like Larson. After all Larson is technically a criminal too, but he’s been good to you so far. Might as well give this other teacher the benefit of the doubt.>Convenient. You might be able to get rid of your own implant one day, but in order to get rid of your friend’s implants you are going to have to figure out how to use your powers on their bodies and just winging it with human testing on people you care about seems like a horrible idea. Some trial runs with animals seem like a much better way to get started. This cat might be just what you need.
>>3848405Fucking weridAre we a movie buff or even a binge watcher? Because if we are I definitely know where this is going
Im very happy you are back E-16
>>3848405And of course>Write in. A.N. Well I'm back. I'm sorry. Sorry for how I treated you all, for being a dick and for breaking my promises. I will do better, and I hope you those of you who were part of the quest in the past will give me, give the quest, another chance. I have high hopes for the quest going forward. Honestly I burned myself out, but I'm going to be smarter about things this time, and that shouldn't happen. I plan to pace myself so we can have a good long run.I'm going to stick around for a bit before heading to bed. If you have anything you'd like to say to me or questions to ask feel free. I'll be back in the morning to see how things are going, show my face a bit, but the update probably won't come until latter in the afternoon tomorrow. >>3848413Well you are a massive Nerd, and pop culture knowledge has been part of your thought processes and actions in the past (i.e. referencing media to figure out how to act in social situations you have no personal experience with) so it's possible, but that's at least in part up to you players. Welcome to the quest anon, thanks for being here. Are you a returning player?
>>3848405>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.SUSPICION AROUSED
>>3848405>Convenient. >>3848421Yes i am a returning playerAlso im going to add this to my vote >>3848413"is this going to be one of those weird taking care of your animal and then killing them to show your not attached thing?"
>>3848441>>3848417And I am happy to see you anons here and willing to hop back on this wild ride. Thank you anons, thank you for playing. Thank you for being here. >>3848434And thank you to you to anon. I can't tell you all how happy I am to have you all here.
>>3848405>>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student. They're probably going to do some unsullied-type shit and make her kill the cat. Also please no harmful experiments on kitty. I got my cat in my lap right now and thinking of hurting a cat, even by accident, doesn't sit right with me.I'm still mad that you flaked without saying anything, but I'm glad you're back.
>>3848456 I get being mad with me. I'd be mad with me. Shit I am mad with me truth be told. I flaked like a bitch, after repeatedly saying I wouldn't. You have every right to be mad. And I am incredibly grateful that despite that you were willing to take your time to come in here and participate. Thank you for that anon. I'm sorry I did you wrong. Thank you for giving me a chance to do better this time around.
>>3848456Hey man, I don't want to do it either. Bee you tee, it will help us a bunch with our powers and acquiring night vision. I mean, we don't have to kill them, we could just take some hair. maybe poke at its a bit skull and study it and give it back, unharmed.
>>3848482>maybe poke at its a bit skull>at its skull a bitI hate when I do this, I always write too fast and then assume nothing I spelled got jumbled gaaahhh.
As it has been a very long time, and I don't assume everyone will have remembered or reread everything in preparation like I have, I'm going to just mention a few relevant details real quick. First detail, we don't have the ability to read DNA yet. Can't just get the genetic blue print and then be able to copy the creature. We will be able to in the future, but it is not something available to you at this time. Second, anons had been kicking around the idea of potentially trying to link our nervous systems to others as a potential way to use our powers to influence other bodies/people/animals. This was never tested, but was theorized to be your best bet at this time as you currently lack telepathy. Basically to use a metaphor you aren't wireless yet, you wanna connect your system to another system you need a hard line for the time being. If anyone has any questions or details they are unclear on or would like a refresher for, please let me know, and when I get back in the morning I will see to answering them. Good night everyone.
>>3848512>First detail, we don't have the ability to read DNA yetWell thenguess I'm uhswitching to this then>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.
>>3848405>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.Killing cat
>>3848405>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.Nice! You're back!
>>3848405>>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.I don't trust it.
Hey this is back! Also, they gon make her kill that cat
Right, let's try and recall some of what we planned to learn how to do.When we figure out how to modify others, that makes us one of the best healers on the planet if not the best.Regenerate people's lost limbs, cure blindness, cure otherwise incurable diseases, fix paralysis etc.
I would not be suprised if we could copy a animal if we ate it whole alive and unharmed just copy pasting everything possibly memories if we copy the brain in enough detail. Also we need to fatten up we cant continue like this only living from meal to meal we need to stored mass and energi
>>3848920We were going to figure out how to read DNA, with the endgoal of stealing other people's meta genes and the endgame of copying Superman's or Doomsday's abilities. In the shorter term, we were going to borrow ideas from animals, like chemical sprays and weapons modeled after existing body parts (think of Trapdoor Ants and Pistol Shrimps); the medium-term goal was to create custom-made germs.
>>3848975Ah right, Bio-AmazoI remember now.I still think our top-tier healing potential shouldn't be ignored.
>>3848512Eyyy, good to see you back Monitor.>>3848405>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.Sketchy as hell. Even if it's a gift given out of goodwill, I'd be surprised if it wasn't some means to monitor or test us. Probably going to make her kill it later, or something screwed up like that.
>>3848405>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.>Teacher: Do you love the cat Tara?>Tara: YES!!! It's so cute. I've called it->Teacher: Good, now kill it with your own hands.>Tara:W-what?>Teacher: This exercise will help you to learn how to detach from human emotions while working.>Mercer: Ermmm, I know this is not the moment but...can I eat the kitten once you finish?>Teacher:...Good job Mercer. You have an A+.
Oooooooooooh SHIT SON! YJ IS BACK! META HUMANSRISE UPNah but seriously we gotta figure out a way to disable those shock chips in us and lead a proper Meta Human Revolution. FREE our brothers and sisters from homo sapien's bondage! Us Meta-Sapians shall RULE! WITH ONE KING, JOSEPH MERCER TO LEAD!! LONG LIVE THE META-HUMAN LIBERATION FRONT!!
>>3848405Also,>Write in>Can only end in disaster. It's called a Rewards Program. The cat is meant to act as a crutch to keep her dependant on her captors. It's a simple system, the more she does for them the more rewards she will have. But the smallest infraction and you know for a fact they're going to take the cat away and hurt it so as to prove a point. They do the same thing to inmates, though without hurting the animal. Should tell you how they think of us when they would treat inmates better. If she wants to save that cat AND get back home? She's going to want to listen to us. Because we have her best interest at heart. Some real CIA shit. I'd be impressed if it weren't so old hat. What we're going to do is cuck HIVE by have Terra lean on US for positive attention before they can get to her.
Morning everyone. Great to see you all here. Well it looks like we have consensus, but I won't call the vote just yet, mostly because I don't have time to do a write up at the moment. I'll be monitoring the thread from my phone periodically while I'm at work, and should be calling the vote in the afternoon. As always questions are welcome.
Well this was unexpected.
>>3849112Hey man, good to have you back. Hopefully everything got better between you and your friend.
>>3848405Alright so my vote is for>Fucking weirdAnd >Convenient. Because it is in fact both. Listen I know some people are not going to like this. I know some of you are going to call me a horrible person, but we gotta experiment on the fluff ball. Our number one goal right now is to escape, well if we dont want to have to run off and leave all of our friends behind we gotta figure out how to use our powers on others. Monnie said before last thread died that he'd be giving us an opportunity to figure out how to do it. This cat is the opportunity. It's pretty fucking obvious, just like it's obvious the cat is going to die when the other shoe drops with Tara's murder teacher. Some people will say this is immoral. I say it's more immoral to allow human beings to suffer when it could be prevented. If we dont figure this out we will have to leave our friends behind in hive hands. We've been given an opportunity to figure it out. We cant guarentee QM will give us more opportunities if we don't seize this one. We need to experiment on the cat. It's the only reasonable, and moral choice. Just ask yourself if you'd rather hurt the kitty a little bit, or if you'd rather let them mindrape Tara and Cait and Liz into being homicidal yes women for their evil organization, and I think the choice should be clear. I am begging you all please, dont be stupid on this. We gotta experiment on that cat, our friends lives and sanity depend on it.
>>3849274We can choose to experiment on it later, let's not go straight up psychopath.
>>3849274We aren't gonna eat people, and we sure as hell aren't gonna fuck up a kitten. Maybe make a tiny tentacle and make a microscopic biopsy to get some cat DNA, but no melding with it via nerve tube. Save that for bugs and rats.
>>3849280It's not psychopathy is a rational choice. Animal testing is a thing for a reason man. It's not sadism its science and safety. We dont know how long the cat will be around. Notice what a big deal the qm made about needing all the time we can get. He dedicated like three paragraphs to hammering that thought home. We cant just assume we can experiment on the cat at our leisure, or that we will get it right on the first try. Look at what happened with our night vision. We didn't get that first try, and linking nervous systems has got to be more complicated than that. We gotta play this smart. I for one don't want to have to abandon our human friends because we were too squeamish to cause an animal that's slated to die anyway some pain. People before kitties man. That's just common sense.
>>3849307I missed this quest, but I sure as hell didn't miss people trying to rationalize shitty things. No cat molesting!
>>3849305I'm not saying we need to eat anyone. I am very much against eating people. I've always been against eating people. Theres a giant gap between proposing canabalism and saying we should do animal testing and I'll thank you not to tar me with that brush. I'm trying to save people, people we care about.Look up just a few posts. Qm already said we cant do DNA, and even if we could DNA would only help with night vision. Night vision isn't what I'm saying we need to use the cat for. We need to use the cat to figure out how to use our powers on other beings. Right now we are limited to our own body, so we can figure out how to remove our own implant but that won't let us remove our friends implants. We gotta figure out how to do that. The cat is our best bet. It's not pleasant, but it has to be done.
>>3849315Dammit anon I'm not one of the cannibalism advocates, I dont want to eat people, but we gotta be realistic. What do you care about more the cat or our friends? We can do our best to make it as painless for the cat as we can, but we gotta do it.
>>3849307>>3849323even if i am for getting all the advantages we can i am a little touchy on cats but i fully agree and we dont even need to eat it we can just do like a umbilical cord and see if we can affect it and have it survive
Then do it on a bug or rat, not a pet.
>>3849274I feel like it's more rational to avoid experimenting on the cat, at least until absolutely necessary. How exactly do you think Cait would react to us fucking up her feline friend's nervous system, in her current vulnerable state? We should at least look out for the opportunity to acquire an animal that isn't Cait's comfort friend, and put off experimenting on the cat until we know there's no other options available. We could probably swing something with AVM Man, ask if they could get us something harmless like a rat or mouse that we could "Observe". Say we think it'd give us some inspiration if we were able to see a different type of animal in action or something.
>>3849112During our time experimenting, have we figured out the extent to which we can manipulate our flesh? Is there any matter we CAN'T convert? Knowing that Wax is messing with, can we develop a resistance to pass on to others?
>>3849350>Knowing that Wax is messing with, can we develop a resistance to pass on to others? We can just share our technique with other people. The problem with that is the fact that they're monitoring us all the time.If we used our power on other people without disabling that implant, they'd find out we're much more than a shapeshifter.
>>3849326Exactly. It doesnt have to hurt the cat, we just need to try linking that's all. A little link can't be that bad. I don't think qm would give us this opportunity just to fuck with us if we took it, he's not that big of a dick.
>>3849328Have you seen any rats? And I dont think a bug is complex enough to really give good test results.
>>3849336You raise a valid point that messing with the animal Tara and Caitlin are currently using as an emotional crutch may not be the best idea, but I honestly don't see an alternative. I don't want to make requests because clearly they track those and it might tip them off. Why does he want a rat? Idk man it seems risky to me in a way that this isn't. Sure there are the potential emotional pitfalls, but this isn't going to get us scrutinized or caught.
>>3849385They think we're a Shapeshifter, saying we want one for animal observation for imitating them better might work
>>3849393Why would we ask for a rat rather than something more useful or impressive? You ever see beast boy turn into a rat? We would have to ask for something else, likely something larger and less common. This is a problem because getting close enough to touch it, while under supervision mind you, becomes more dangerous. Why does observing the (insert dangerous animal here) involve touching it James? That's a hard question to bluff. No one will question us holding a kitten.
>>3849406Easy you cant really examine a animal in detail without touching it like inspecting the teeth and the jaws or feeling the musculature and bones or just the feel of there fur and if we need a excuse to eat the animal just say you where hungry
>>3849436Valid point. Valid point. I suppose I could get behind this, but I still think it's a risk and we have no guarantee that they would allow us any animals in the first place. Bird in the hand is worth two in the Bush and all that.
>>3849474I would also point out that a majority of large dangerous animals are endangered these days so we would likely be conducting potentially harmful experiments on an endangered animal rather than an easily replaceable house cat that's so common they literally have to put down large numbers of them to keep shelters from being overcrowded.
>>3849274Supporting. We need to get out and this is our ticket.
>>3849231Glad to be back. Thank you for your concern. Things worked out. Happy to have you here anon thanks for coming back. >>3849350If I've misunderstood your question let me know, but based on my understanding of what you've asked here is my answer. To date you haven't done extensive testing, however I will say that there aren't any biological compounds native to earth you cant break down at this point. Alien compounds are harder. That's something you'd have to figure out later. What I mean to say is if you consume something from earth your gutveill break it down and you will understand it on a cellular level. Understanding on a genetic level comes later with practice and experimentation. You do need compounds in bio available forms. For instance you cant just chew on an iron bar and get metals to manipulate, but if you get bio available iron from say other animals or plants or supplements then you can use that for say some bio metal protein structures. I know that was something people had been interested in previously so I'm bringing that up as an example. You have complete control over your flesh, but are limited by your own understanding. If you dont know how to build what you are trying to build even though you have the ability you dont have the skill, if that makes sense. Like the night vision in this thread. You absolutely could make the appropriate reflective layer, your power gives you the ability, but you were stymied by not knowing how to make that reflective layer. What the proper composition would be. In those instances you can swing it based on your best understanding and get some results, but trial and error takes time. Hope this was helpful.
>>3849066This is so crazy that it might just work.
>>3849626So either fumble our way into success, or eat more things then.
>>3848405>>Fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? There’s something fishy about this. There is no way this was just one of the teachers comforting an upset student.>>3848421Man, as a returning player, don't sweat it. It's seems to me that you are way too hard on yourself and that's why you burnt out in the first place, you make yourself feel bad for not meeting expectations and then because you feel bad you don't do anything, and so on. At the end of the day, this is all just a silly game on the internet so don't take it too seriously alright? Be well, glad to have you back.
>>3849883so you are also a return player then its nice to meet you again and i must agree there a qm guilt tripping them self and grinding there cylinders until it gets stuck is not healthy
>>3849112I must ask how long until next update from when you post reply i am going fall asleep soon
>>3850048He normally did large updates once or twice a day before
>>3850048You should probably go sleep anon. I won't be getting off work for another half hour or so, then I've got the commute home and dinner before I could conceivably get started on the update. So while there will be updates this evening it's not going to be for a while. I'd recommend getting your rest and checking back when you get up. In all likelihood the next vote will be up for you to chip in on and I dont think you'll have missed out on much. At worst one relatively unimportant decision.Sorry bout the wait. As mentioned I'll probably do about one update a day. Maybe two, and I might miss some days if I'm busy. Your understanding is appreciated.
Right I'm home and munching. Calling the vote, give me about an hour to an hour and a half and the update should be up. I'll try to get back into the habit of giving you time estimates, I know some people had appreciated those.
>>3850217Late to this but welcome back man.
>>3848405That’s...fucking weird. Why the hell would the old man who was teaching Tara how to get away with murdering people give her a cat? It makes no sense, unless he’s got some sort of ulterior motive. Like maybe threatening to take away the cat to keep her in line, or trying to win her over with gifts. Or if he was really messed up maybe he planned to make her kill the cat as some sort of test or training...Nah that’s just crazy. Or is it? Whatever the case, this cat is super suspicious, but looking at Cait and Tara’s smiling faces as they coo at the little fur ball and it bats weakly at Cait’s outstretched finger with it’s little paws, you can’t quite bring yourself to raise your concerns. They’ve both been through hell lately, if the cat is helping their emotional state you aren’t going to shit all over that. Not yet at least, you’ll bring up your concern later. “Huh, didn’t think he was that nice” You say diplomatically, carefully alluding to the possibility without directly stating it. “have you named it yet?” “Micka” Tara replies. “I have named him Micka.” Liz and Roxy’s arrivals herald more squeals and cooing over the cat, while Ralph just looks at you with a baffled expression and raises an eyebrow. With the girls distracted you decide it’s a good time to go get your dinner, and Ralph follows after you. “Never much cared for cats” He drawls as the two of you get into line for your food. “Rather they gave us a dog if I had my druthers, but it’s mighty peculiar that they gave us anything at all I reckon.” “Pretty sure there’s an ulterior motive” You reply as you get your three bowls of curry. “But I didn’t want to bother the girls. They’re happy, we can talk to them about our concerns tomorrow.” It’s good that you and Ralph are on the same page. Honestly handling that sort of complicated talk was a social minefield you didn’t want to have to dance through, this way you can get Ralph to handle it. He’ll definitely be able to do a better job than you could. Ralph nods and replies “Alright, you sure know how to handle them fillies better’n I do, so I’ll follow your lead and let you bring it up in that case.”...What?
>>3850434“Excuse me” says a smooth lightly accented male voice from behind you before you can process or respond to Ralph’s statement. It sounds kind of like the German accents you’d hear in world war two movies, only a lot softer and less exaggerated. “Could I have a moment of your time?” You turn around to see who is addressing you. He’s tall and pale, with dark curly hair a hawkish nose and a strong jawline that fits well with his muscular shoulders. You haven’t ever really talked with him, but you recognize him from your Acquisitions class, and as having previously sat with white hair. Though you noticed he wasn’t sitting with him this morning. “I, and some others, would like to offer our condolences to your friend for the horrible experience she suffered and to wish her a swift recovery.” He tells you “But we do not wish to cause her any undue distress. So I thought it prudent to ask you, as her friends, how you would think it best for us to do so and if it would be appropriate.” What do?>Accept his offer and tell him you’re sure Cait would appreciate it. People like receiving attention and sympathy right? Besides it might be an opportunity to build better relationships with some of the other students. >Thank him for his concern, but tell him now isn’t the best time. Being reminded of her experience probably won’t do Cait any favors, and you don’t think she’d like having people pity her. Perhaps latter, when it’s less fresh. >Thank him, but tell him you think it would be for the best if they didn’t. They may be approaching you now, but these were white hairs cronies. Having them around probably won’t help Cait’s emotional state, and it might be some sort of ploy. You know that people can be vicious and duplicitous and you don’t trust this guy>Write in.

>>3849883You have a point, and I'll keep that in mind. In any case, thank you for being here and playing, hope we can have a good time together. >>3850308Thanks, welcome back to you too. Thank you for being here. I'm going to be around for another hour or two. Depending on responses we may get in another wright up tonight, but If not I will do one tomorrow morning before I head into work. Questions and commentary welcome as always.

>>3848512I'm not looking forward to the hard line option, to be honest. It's literally our nerves in a spike connecting to another body. Goddamn, that is going to be pure misery to figure out.>>3848979It's not technically top tier. Our powers require nutrients/energy to function. Meaning if we say regenerating full limbs is gonna have some nasty side effects. Its why we technically don't have a regeneration or healing power but can do so anyway albeit with side effects.>>3850440>Accept his offer and tell him you’re sure Cait would appreciate it. >>3848369...Is it really you? Wow, I legitimately thought I'd never see you again. Props for having the balls to come back at least. Though it would have been better if you had never left in the first place.
>>3850542It is indeed me. Yes it would have been better if I had never left, or if I had communicated better. Live and learn. You gonna be joining us? Night everyone see you in the morning, update probably to come in about 9 to 10 hours. I'll let you all know if there are any changes in the plan.

Alright, vote called. Writing. Got going a little later than I had anticipated this morning. Hopefully I can get the write up done within the next hour, if not there may be a bit of a delay and i'll finish it and post from work. I'll keep you all posted.
Right, looks like I'll be posting from my phone. See you all in a bit.
Cats shed a fuckton right?(Or at least my cat does) Can we just comb it, ball up a bunch of hair and eat it? Or would we have to eat the eyeball?
>>3851188we cant yet read dna we need to eat the whole thing
>>3851188>>3851220but we can go on a adventure searching for documentaries on cats or look up the make up of that reflective layer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAR3erZ3DrA
>>3851220We could probably manage something if we linked it to our own body and consumed and replicated it's organs.
Cat kidneys! An essential for any shapeshifter planning a sea voyage! Just saying!
>>3851298EXPLAIN MORE THELL MEE
>>3851220>>3851235>>3851236>>3851298>>3851326We should leave the cat alone until we can recreate things we've eaten. That means we train some more eith microscopic stuff. Maybe we could make cell cultures to practice with?
>>3851326Cats have better kidneys than humans. If a human drinks ocean water, they get dehydrated, cause their kidneys can’t handle that much salt in the water, and takes extra water from the body to filter it.Cat kidneys are able to filter higher salt to water ratios. So with cat kidneys, if we get stranded in the middle of the ocean, as an individual we would need to worry about dehydration!
>>3851454So cats are a farmable source of fresh water in the form of blood and tears?
>>3851489Uhhh, I guess? But remember, we’d obviously need to make a few sacrifices to the blood gods, if we’re going to do that!
>>3851489I mean, we can also do that, just become a human water filter or design a biological compound to purify water sourcesEventually we can learn how to photosynthesise too.
>>3850440"Thank you for your concern..." You trail off expectantly "Dieter" he supplies."Dieter" You continue. "I'm sure Cait would appreciate it, but I don't think now is the best time. Things are still a little raw you know? Maybe after she's had a little time to get settled." "Of course" he replies genially "When she is ready." "Right well if that's all you needed Dieter we'll be on our way then" you tell the older teen as you start to turn away."Actually" he says quickly stepping around you so that he's facing you again. " I owe you an apology as well. I was rather offputt by your...display, on our first night, and have kept myself distant, kept company I am not proud of now. I may perhaps have never acted against you directly, but I did not stop it either, and I regret this. I know my apology perhaps it is too little, but I hope we can put that behind us. What is the phrase? Bury the hatchet yes?"Well, that is indeed an olive branch, and to be fair you dont remember him ever doing anything to you or your friends himself. Honestly most of the group that used to sit with white hair hadn't. "You do not need to answer now" he tells you. "Think on what I have said, we can talk later. You need to eat now yes? There is not much time and you have much on your plate. I will not keep you." He turns before you can reply and walks towards his table whistling a tune you dont recognize. As he walks away the silverware on his tray lifts into the air and floats over his hand. The metal utensils begin to spin and dance over his palm in the air as he twirls his fingers in lazy patterns. Interesting party trick.
>>3851588>concerning votingToday's choice will be a bit more complicated. Your first choice will be to either do a time skip, or not. I understand some people want to get things moving, but I also understand there are a lot of active plot lines right now that you might want to give a more personal touch than just glossing over them. So I'm giving you the players the option to tie up a few loose ends before we timeskip if you want, or we can get going and just jump into the timeskip if you aren't interested. I'm fine either way. When voting please first declare if you are voting for time skip or no time skip, and then your vote for the associated question(s). No timeskipWhat do right now?>Follow Dieter and speak with him and the others he mentioned>Go back to your table and spend the evening with your friends and talk with Caitlin, try to be supportive, maybe bring up her wellwishers and see if there might be a time to raise your concerns about the cat to Tara>Write in. Choose one to have practiced alone.>unlocking the secrets of DNA (please note, this will get you closer to getting DNA, but does not mean you will be able to use DNA by the end of this time skip. You will require further practice and experimentation) >control and understanding of your nervous system (further prepares you to remove your implant) >unlocking plants. >using your powers to influence others bodies ( prepares you to remove friends implants) >Further improvement of what you learn with Larson >write in Choose one social goal to have worked towards.>Helping Cait deal with what happened to her. >Strengthening relationships with all your friends and getting to know them better.>Approach Dieter and his group and try to build bridges with them.>Fuck with white hair and his sycophants. >ingratiate yourself to the staff>write in
>>3851596so guys lets plan what should we focus on right now? lets discuss?
>>3851596I'll take Skip I guessHow long we skipping?>>Animal Forms>>>using your powers to influence others bodies ( prepares you to remove friends implants)>>Helping Cait deal with what happened to her.
>>3851596Right so the choice is complex. If you dont get it feel free to ask me for clarification. Sorry for making you wait a long time for a kind of short and shitty update. Couldnt quite get it to where I'm happy with it, kept reworking it and eventually just decided I needed to get something out so we could continue rather than sitting here paralised trying to come up with something better. Sorry it took so long. I'll keep an eye on things so if you need something speak up.
>>3851605>>3851606animal form would likely get us access to animals to observe mimic and possibly eat and the influencing other would be good and get us a new way to absorb biomass
>>3851596>Bone Carapace Armor>using your powers to influence others bodies ( prepares you to remove friends implants)>Helping Cait deal with what happened to her.
>>3851612Yeah, but like. It's such a cliche use of our powers, and one that serves us better after getting out than actually getting out(with our friends, if we go it alone it's perfectly viable)
>>3851606It would be a few weeks skip. That bring said we are going to be doing a few skips of significant length no matter what to get us to the point where you feel prepared and it's time for your escape attempt.I mean technically you could just go for it at any time and I won't stop you all from doing so, but I'm assuming you'll want to have a certain level of preparation before hand, for which we will need to let some time elapse.
>>3851619It gives us the most versatile powerset for now.The more we understand about animals, the more we can improve our base form
>>3851596>No timeskip>>Go back to your table and spend the evening with your friends and talk with Caitlin, try to be supportive, maybe bring up her wellwishers and see if there might be a time to raise your concerns about the cat to Tara
>>3851596>>No timeskip>>>Go back to your table and spend the evening with your friends and talk with Caitlin, try to be supportive, maybe bring up her wellwishers and see if there might be a time to raise your concerns about the cat to Tara>>3851669you made me remember the whole prison reward system or forcing her to kill the cat
>>3851675if i am being honest i am kind of scared with doing time skips and the situation that has starter cropping up and i really want us to work on the sleep thing
>>3851624How many timeskips would we have before we have to escape?
>>3851680The sleep thing Is a given. You've already made the decision to pursue that. Unless you all tell me you want to stop I'm not going to make you vote to keep doing it. You'll be getting the time for personal improvement from the sleep thing. Regarding your fears about time skips, I dont have any malicious intent with them. Can you explain why they worry you and see if we can resolve the issue?
>>3851691As far as you know you have seven months to escape before Wax finishes rewriting you all. As long as you escape before "graduation" you should be fine. Assuming time skips in one month intervals you would have 6, with some time left over, and that's assuming you waited to the last possible moment to escape so that you could eek out every bit of preparation and invaluable training that you could. You could theoretically try to escape sooner if you wish.
>>3851702>>3851695Thanks for the info! I imagine the hesitation is the general feeling that we'll get more things done better if we don't and maximize every day.
Rolled 1 (1d2)>>3851695that we miss some chance to change things or something its a general worry of stuff escalating in the background until boom >>3851596>Bone Carapace Armor 1 animal 2>using your powers to influence others bodies ( prepares you to remove friends implants)>Helping Cait deal with what happened to her.okay i am convinced we do bone armor it can act as anchors for even more musculature and make room for more organs and more dramatic body shifting where animal widens our assortment of changes and could lead to us getting to eat some animals and getting stuff like gills or cat liver
>>3851710Well I'd be lying if I said that things wouldn't be progressing in the background. I would also be lying if I said that you wouldn't be missing out on some choices since you wouldn't be micro managing every day. I'll be honest your fears are not unfounded. However I do believe that the "loses" that would occur are not as extreme as you fear. Regarding events progressing in the background. I promise you that no time skip will cause you to lose your chance to escape. Yes, all of your decisions will have consequences, but I'm not trying to pull a fast one and lock you onto a specific course with this. Some doors may close, but other doors will open, and I'll try to be as transparent as I can with the consequences of your choices so that you can weigh your decisions and make informed selections. Regarding the loss in opportunity to influence events through choices, this is true, but I dont want to limit and prevent you from making significant choices. I just want to prevent us from getting bogged down in repetitive insignificant choices, so that we can focus on the important and fun bits. I'll be honest grinding wears me down. A lot. So while I understand the concern I promise that your input will still have weight, the significant decisions will be in your hands, and I'm not trying to limit you into set pathways of my choosing. I just honestly can't do day by day going forward for your time in the hive. We will never get anywhere if we do that. If you ever have concerns with how things are going, or feel that the way I'm running things is creating a negative experience by all means please let me know. I cant promise that I will follow every suggestion, but I promise to carefully consider them and do the best I can to make a quest where we can all have a good time by collaborating as players and qm.
>>3851729Please note that when I say I can't do day by day, this doesnt mean we won't get days where we do decision by decision. There will be days and moments that need to be focused on and not glossed over, I'm just trying to say we won't play out every single day of the weeks or potentially months you may be here depending on your choices, that some of the less significant things such as grinding to improve your abilities will be glossed over in the form of time skips in order to provide a better experience here in the quest. If there are any concerns with this let me know.
>>3851729>>3851737The thing about doing it that way is that there's no gain to timeskips for the player. It also doesn't make much sense. Why would the MC ignore things going on if we timeskip but doesn't if we don't.Basically the only thing we lose as players by grinding every day out is pacing and we gain nothing really from timeskips.
>>3851749you do have a point it just goes faster and we lose extreme amounts of control on stuff
>>3851760A good balance is either make the decisions on what we do with our pets and have that go on in the background and focus on social things until there's a significant milestone, or get bigger rewards from the timeskip at the cost of spending time socially.
>>3851763Fucking phone posting. *Powers, not pets.

Right so let me give a time frame for this vote so everyone knows what to expect. It won't be closing until tomorrow. There are a few reasons for this. The first reason is that I have an appointment tonight and by the time I get home I'm pretty sure I'll be too tired to do much more than sleep. Second, as I recall we had a decent number of eurofags and other participants from around the globe who had difficulty participating due to votes opening and closing when they weren't around back in the previous thread. Figure if it's open till tomorrow that gives them plenty of time to weigh in and for all of you to discuss and plan how you want to do this since it's a pretty significant decision. If I can get the update done tomorrow morning I will, but in the event I can't it will be posted tomorrow evening. I'm sorry about the long delay, I know faster resolution is preferred, but I'm afraid I honestly can't do it any quicker at the moment.>>3851749>>3851760>>3851763>>3851767>>3851813Give me a minute to consider what you've said, and I'll get back to you either tonight or tomorrow morning.

>>3852721you get my Point on that wall of text there is alot of things to do >>3852129>>3852642
>>3852721I don't think we'll need a perpetual life cycle considering that by all rights, we should be biologically immortal already. We've already conquered time.
>>3852721>scorpionScorpians are also known for incorporating metals into their chitin, so it'd be a good source of metal appropriation.Though the human body does that with our bones anyway so.In regards to age: Once you get to the point you can regenerate limbs the only thing standing inbetween you and age immortality is the ability to repair and retain your brains functions and memories, which is all about protein positioning on the outside of the cells.>>3851596>Go back to your table and spend the evening with your friends and talk with Caitlin, try to be supportive, maybe bring up her wellwishers and see if there might be a time to raise your concerns about the cat to Tara>Animal Forms>Make sure to eat a cat hair or threeFor future reference:Maybe look into trying to improve taste and nasal sensativity: The air will be billowing with microscopic dead skin cells, if we want to sample as much DNA as we can itd be our best bet to up acuity to aquire from the air and may open up the option of impersornating a guard.Another thing to note: Eat micro organisms like fungi, plants, bacteria and viruses. Do this by either aquiring grown cultures or from gone off food. They will have useful cell level abilities, such as breaking down what little waste our digestive system leaves. Fungi spores would also open up unique substance delivery mechanisms. From reading up so far:When people said the appendix was useless that is not entierly true: Its known to be a repository of your natural gut flora, which can then recolonize it after something like the diarrhea flushes the system. Ide suggest regrowing it and then repurposing and using it to try experimenting on simple bacteria to start figuring out DNA.
You might want to replace the goosebump muslces for future use for when we have to grow a hairy hide.In regards to improving eyesight: Just flip the orientation of the cones and rods in the eyes with the position of the blood vessels leading to them.Naturally the vessels are infront of the receptors, so light has to go through them to hit the receptors, which lowers sight acuity because its less light. Very minor and minimal change to improve eyesight. In regards to say thermal vision: You have natural heat receptors underneath your eyes, they just arnt highly developed like say a snakes are. its when when some people go out into sunlight they tend to sneeze, because the heat receptors trigger it.Improving hearing you can look at some of the odd left over adaptions some humans have, such as the ability to rotate and move ear position, or the ability of some people to manually trigger the muscle which protects the ears from overly loud sounds (ear rumbling).Just my two pence on the whole thing. Enjoying the quest so far, looking forward to seeing what else can happen.
>>3852879>Just my two penceFuck! Why you got to bring politics into it?JK. I like it, sounds good. Maybe include shrimp light cones, I believe some have more variety of cones than us, to see color variation better.
>>3852939Likelyhood is we will need to utilize the density trick to have more than say two vision types and cycle through them as presets.Other option would be making a present for growing/forming more eyes but we need to wait until skilled enough to alter skull structure without messing things up for that.
>>3852950Speaking of density!Yeah, birds are going to be hard for us!
>>3851749>>3851760>>3851763>>3851767>>3851813Ok so if I understand the gist of your concern, you feel that by doing the time skip and not individual days you feel you aren't getting as much bang for your buck out of those days in game? Basically you think that with the choices presented as part of the time skip you aren't getting enough. Do I have that right? >>3852129Could you clarify what you meant, as skipping daily stuff is what I thought I was doing, so I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say.
>>3852979I'd assume they meant skipping over the basic, daily doldrum and focusing only on notable events.
>>3852979Exactly as you said earlier we lose out on some stuff
>>3852867So we grow a gut fauna flora nature reserve/zoo oh if we figure out how to control them we would have our very own tiny protectors our own little eco-system and its a good idea to regrow everything we lost the hair-raisers we can use them to hold a fur coat stable or quills on our back or fore arms for weapons and defense We can also use them for scales we put them down for smooth armor and up so we can sweat
>>3853003>>3853104I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I fail to comprehend your distinction. If you could please by patient with me while I try to understand I would appreciate it. I want to br able to address your concern, but I'm just not getting it. Skipping " basic daily doldrums and focusing only on notable events" is what I'm trying to accomplish here. That's literally the point of introducing the time skips. I really would like to understand the distinction you are trying to make, but I just dont see it. From my perspective it sounds like you're telling me to do timeskips, but saying timeskips are bad at the same time. I'm a little confused. >>3853103I'd like to preface my response by saying I am grateful to you for raising your concerns, and for being an active participant in the quest. Assuming your concern is that you aren't getting as much as you would have otherwise, that is not how I had intended to design this choice but I can understand how you could come to that conclusion. Would an increase in the payoff for the time skip assuage your concerns? As I said before I'm not trying to bilk you out of options, and I'm certainly not doing this in an attempt to limit you or your character, I'm just trying to streamline things. Case in point, developing your powers. I had always intended at this juncture for improvements to your ability set to take time to develop in game. Let's say theoretically it takes 10 practice sessions to achieve a usable application of your power in self study, just as a theoretical example. Would you rather have to vote for that 10 different times, or vote once and have that vote reflect the requisite number of practice sessions to achieve it? Either way you are getting the same thing, it's just a question of avoiding tedium. When I say things may be lost, honestly I'm referring to what I think of as insignificant purely cosmetic choices. Choices that honestly aren't neccessary and don't necessarily have an impact on your development. I am not trying to deprive you of important decisions or character moments, I'm trying to save the quest from grinding to a halt under the weight of banal repitions. Does that make sense?
>>3853197Pretty sure people were just worried that by time skipping wede miss out on gains and social events. If thats not the case, and you do time skips in a manner which does not skip over said aspects, then everyone here will be fine and dandy with it.
Alright concerning the vote, voting currently stands as follows. >Whether or not to time skip No skip IIIISkip IIIII IIIISo it looks like time skip is highly likely to win, therefore let's look at the votes for what to do with the skip. >Larson's lessons. Animal IIICarapace IIIdentity theft IIIHealing I>Private practice Use powers on others IIIII IFurther practice of lessons IIFigure out your own nerves I>Social GoalsHelp Cait IIIIBuild bridges IIIIIngratiate IThis is just an update on the current standing of the vote so everyone can keep track of where we are. Vote isn't closed yet. Vote will be closed in two hours when I go on lunch. This is a last call for discussion and voting before polls close. If you feel I've missed any votes please let me know. Thank you all for playing.
>>3853242Identity theft we cant do that on our own so this could be smart to do and this should include mimicry and skull changing
>>3853242Mm, I think I'll probably go with >Identity theftProbably the most useful, after we make our escape. >Figure out your own nervesPracticing with others is of course important, but I think learning how to do it on our own body would make it a lot less risky, when we got around to practicing on others. We are on a timer, but we're not really in a desperate hurry. >Help CaitMaking nice with the others is good, but it's not really an immediate concern, and leaving Cait to stew on this could have long-lasting effects. Though on the other hand, making nice with the others quickly would make sure they don't end up joining up with white-hair again. Hrm. Well, I'll stand by my choice, though this one's a bit tough.
>>3853252Personally it seems to myself that both Identity theft and Animal forms wil have both those but will vary only in The degree of fine control we have with shaping and mimicry. So I ultimately feel that the skills will have some degree of crossover and I feel I’d rather learn an Identity theft version of animal forms from Larson and then eventually practice on personal time how to translate those skills to human form.In summation, both seem similar and have the similar base skills in my opinion, and could probably translate between them pretty well, and I’d rather Hive not know I could become anyone! That’s just how I see it, but I totally understand where you’re coming from.
>>3853274you do have a point there is no point using it on others if we dont know how to even use it on ourself.also if we only manage to escape our self what you think about going full fish and going deep and a long way away from shore and instead of packing our body we expand until we have neutral buoyancy >>3853293i am stuck between animal and human, due to human just being animal mimicry but focused on one species
>>3853310ID theft is stealth-focused, while animal forms will be a generalist option?
>>3853242>>Larson's lessons. >Animal>>Private practice >Figure out your own nerves>>Social Goals>Build bridges
>>3853293Hm, honestly, I get where you're coming from, but I doubt we'd be able to throw Hive off in that regard. Even if we never learn it in an obvious way, it'd be easy enough for them to puzzle out that we'd be capable of it. Just the fact that we can essentially give ourself an adult, overdeveloped muscular body, and that they're aware of that, means they could probably easily figure out that changing our identity would be fairly easy for us, even if Larson didn't give any input on the matter himself.
>>3853242Carapace IItime for dat prototype armor form>Private practiceUse powers on others>Social GoalsHelp Cait
>>3853242>Animal III>Figure out your own nerves I>Help Cait IIII
>>3853336You’re probable right, and it might make Acquisitions Class much easier if could openly use our skills to capture someone, then pretend to be a member for the protection team.
Honestly, other then one or two animal forms for possible reconnaissance and the like, I don't really see the point of animal forms. We can probably gain the same capabilities as just about any animal, while also not needing to change out of a humanoid form. At the very most we would need a hybrid form. Going all the way seems like it would be entirely unnecessary, most of the time.
>>3852979>>3853197That was my concern yes but it seems it was just a miscommunication. I thought that by timeskipping that we would miss things going on in the background that could mess with us later.
Alright votes called. Gimme a minute to catch up on the thread and I'll answer any questions and get the ball rolling.
>>3853487It's not like we wouldn't miss stuff even if we didn't timeskip. Many students ended up joining Darryl since we didn't speak with them and that issue solved itself.
Alright so the results are in, and it's time to figure out what to do with them. First up the vote on what you learn in your lessons. Lessons vote is tied with 5 for animals and 5 for identity theft assuming I didn't miscount. So we need ourselves a tiebreaker. Voting for that will be open for ten more minutes. If you had voted for one of the other options please support whichever of these two you would prefer. If you've already voted for one of these two please refrain from casting additional votes. If no decision is reached within the time frame I will do a coin toss.
Next issue is self study. Self study is 7 for figuring out how to influence others, and 4 for figuring out your own nerves in second place. After reading through the thread and thinking about it they are pretty related, so we're just gonna call this nerves and anti implant studies in general and collapse the two into one. So we will be spending our time figuring out our own nervous system and figuring out how to hook it up to others. I hope this is acceptable to everyone.
>>3853544LLidentity theft SGBuild bridges
>>3853544>>3853547Finally we have the social goals. Now for social goals our winner was helping Cait with 6 votes, the runner up was building bridges with 5.After reading through the thread and considering people's concerns I came to the conclusion that while there was no loss in gains, restricting socialization during the time skip period in the manner I had did represent a loss of social opportunities, which is not what I wanted to do to you all. To mitigate this I have decided that you will be able to achieve both the winner and the runner up. So you will help Caitlin and be able to build bridges. I hope this helps to make it feel as if you have not been penalized socially, as it is not unreasonable to assume that given the opportunity to play out each day you could achieve both by being smart about it. To further mitigate the loss, and to give you all something to do until I'm able to update this evening, which should be in about 5 to 6 hours, I'd like to open up a vote on how to go about these social goals in more detail. How to help Cait?>Avoid reminding her of the incident and attempt to keep her happy and stress free>Attempt to grow closer to her and become her confidant. Offer her an opportunity to vent and a shoulder to cry on.>monitor her condition and coordinate with your friends to stage an intervention if it becomes neccessary, but otherwise leave her be. >write in.How to build bridges? >Approach them during classes and work with them there to build camaraderie. >Approach them during dinner and breakfast times. Eat with them and get to know them. >Invite them to join you and your group for social activities during free time. >Write in.
>>3853596>>Attempt to grow closer to her and become her confidant. Offer her an opportunity to vent and a shoulder to cry on.>>Approach them during classes and work with them there to build camaraderie
>>3853588Alright Identiy theft it is then.
>>3853596>Attempt to grow closer to her >Build camaraderie
>>3853596>>>Attempt to grow closer to her and become her confidant. Offer her an opportunity to vent and a shoulder to cry on.>>>Approach them during classes and work with them there to build camaraderie
>>3853596>>Attempt to grow closer to her and become her confidant. Offer her an opportunity to vent and a shoulder to cry on.Something I've been planning to do since she's probably the one the group looks up to the most besides us, and her resistance to psychics means we could tell her of our plans with little risk.>Approach them during classes and work with them there to build camaraderie.
>>3853596Does the Confidant option lean towards romantic or just best friend?
>>3853626Man, you are all really obsessed/paranoid with waifutism.
>>3853666Are there not good reasons to be paranoid?
>>3853626To answer your question, it leads to a closer relationship. What you all do with that is up to you. This neither obligates you to persue a romance, nor bars you from doing so. To put it another way this doesn't lock you into any specific route.
>>3853666>>3853685It's funny, when I started this Waifus didn't even cross my mind. I honestly hadn't thought about it and don't really care. Bit of a wake up call to realize how big of a deal it was. I honestly had no idea. Never really quested before just did table top and it was never really a problem there.
>>3853766It's annoyingly prevalent here, yeah.>>3853596>Attempt to grow closer to her and become her confidant. Offer her an opportunity to vent and a shoulder to cry on.This really isn't the sort of thing we should leave to stew.>Approach them during classes and work with them there to build camaraderie.Kinda tempted to say all of the above, but just this for now. Don't want to come on too strong.
>>3853820>>3853685Why do you dislike Waifus?
>>3853833its the waifu wars and the relation ship that goes nowhere
>>3853833Waifus are a good thing.
>>3853845>goes nowhereNot always.
>>3853845Waifu wars are fun man. In fact, let us consider the potential Waifus. First up I submit for your consideration Liz aka livewire. Forgive the shitty picture it's the best I could find. She's got spunk, her personality is positively electric! Banter with her is fun and I bet she's less stuffy than the other potential options
>>3853870Next up we have Caitlin a big girl who has made a big splash here in the quest. A real knockout, she's plot relevant and protective.
>>3853886Next up we have Roxy, who I'm like 90 percent certain is Freefall from Gen13 seeing as Cait was Fairchild. I honestly dont know what her appeal is, but I'm sure someone can tell me. There's probably something.
>>3853896Last but certainly not least we have Tara, who is cute as a button and is a precious cinnamon bun we must protect. Who is your favorite waifu and why? It's time to tell us all and argue for your best girl. But you absolutely must remember one thing. YOUR WAIFU A SHIT! Ralph is best boi, fight me.
>>3853904Based and plantpilled.
>>3853833Because, in my general experience, they tend to bog things down. Romance in and of itself is fine, and a powerful storytelling tool, but once someone selects a character they like as the waifu, they almost single-mindedly tend to focus on them, on winning their affection, and on interacting with and taking care of them over all else, oftentimes to the detriment of the overarching plot and character progression. Further, people tend to butt heads on the matter, which just further slows things down. I find they're really just rather inconvenient, generally speaking. Sometimes we'll even have the dreaded attempt at a harem situation, which is guaranteed to bring everything to a grinding halt.
Right, I'm on my way home. Vote will be called in about 40 minutes when I get back and then writing will commence.
Ok, vote called. Writing. Give me a minute.
>>3854232How’s 30 minutes sound? Or do you need more?
>>3854329I'm going to need a bit more anon. I'm sorry. If you're wondering about waiting around or going to do something or going to bed, I would recommend you go sleep or do whatever it is you gotta do. I'm going to be a while. My apologies for any inconvenience this causes you.
>>3854329Sorry for not providing a time estimate. when I got started.
>>3854347Its ok, Monitor.
>>3854347>>3854358Yeah totally ok! I was just checking on you and messing with you a tad.
>>3853870>>3853886>>3853896>>3853904Joseph Mercer does not need romance, or love, or mercy. Only more biomass.
This, is fucking hard. I have deleted and rewritten so much shit for the last few hours. Apparently I'm fucking ass at writing passage of time summaries. Or I'm just being too hard on myself, one or the other. Just popping in to give you all a heads up. I'm alive. I've been working on it. Didn't want to worry you all by going silent too long. That being said I think I need to take a step back, cause I'm running in circles getting nowhere fast and it's getting late. I'm sorry, bear with me here for a bit. I can be a bit of a perfectionist and it slows me down sometimes. I promise we will get something tomorrow even if I have to bite my tongue and just force something out, but I really want to try and deliver quality if I can so rather than just posting something slapdash right now I'm going to ask for a little longer to work on it. My apologies to anyone who had been eagerly anticipating the update.
>>3854656Seeing you come back after your hiatus is tempting me to restart my old quest... Should Famine of Brockton Bay return?
>>3853596>Attempt to grow closer to her and become her confidant. Offer her an opportunity to vent and a shoulder to cry on.Get up in dat puss Mercer.>Approach them during classes and work with them there to build camaraderie.Jolly cooperation!
Holy shit this is back props on E-16 to have the titanium balls to come back
>>3854708Yeah. He should.
>>3854603We have yet to turn our power into a virus anon.>>3854656Perfection really isn't necessary for time skip summaries. After all, you need to do is tell us what happened which means clarity is the only thing that matters Quality and stuff less so cause its a timeskip.>>3854708I think the answer is always yes. If only to show the QM Curse can't always win..
>>3854708YESSSSS, THE CRAB WILL RAISE AGAIN (or should).
>>3854833>>3854656time skips are literally by there nature kind of vague summaries that can go like "you grow closer to (her) she has started to open up more to you(progress)" "you have started (thing) you have (how much progress and thing)"" you continued doing (thing) (progress) (objective) and or [Destination] [Trajectory] [Result].then possibly something how its between the groups and what we see or think snowball is doing" note any sifts in behaviors that can be caused by things like doctor wax and your relations to people.nearly literally is perfection and detail the opposite to a timeskip sometimes so dont worry
>>3854708please. do not play with my emotions likes this.
>>3854833>>3854926Fair points anons, fair points. I guess I'll simplify things down a bit. >>3854933Well after that the Eta is definitely reduced. Unfortunately the eta is somewhat increased by the fact I have to get to work and I don't know how busy we'll be today. Call it like 4 hours and I'll let you know if it will take any longer. >>3854708Do it.
Right so I've got the update written out, and I'm actually pretty happy with it now. Thing is its written on paper, and now I need to transfer it all over by typing it into my phone so I can post it, and it's like ten pages, so this could take a while. Just keeping you all posted and letting you know I need a bit longer than I had estimated. Ending up writing more than I had anticipated.
>>3855021Good luck at work, Mont-E-16
>>3855226Thanks m8. Things are good in the office, it's been a successful month overall and fortunately for us it's a slow day today so I've the time to do this and we shouldn't have to wait until this evening.
Alright slow morning turned into busy afternoon. I'm going to start posting the update now. I dont have it all typed so I'm just going to type as I go and post as I get it typed so this may take a while to get everything up and there may be pauses in between segments so if partway through I go silent for a bit don't worry I probably just had to set my phone down for a minute. Thank you all for your patience with me, update incoming.
>>3855484Totally understand! I myself an a phone posting worker.Rock on, dude!
>>3851588>>3851596Interesting party trick. Telekenisis perhaps? You'll have to ask. After all, he was kind enough to extend an olive branch. You'd be remiss not to reciprocate and do your best to get to know him. Not tonight of course. Caitlin just got back and you want to make sure she's okay. You'll have other opportunities to get to know Dieter. Returning to your table you watch your friends closely as you eat. To the casual observer you're sure they'd appear perfectly happy, carefree even, as they fuss over the Kitten. You can read between the lines though. Cait's smiles are a little too wide. She laughs a little too loud and a little too long. It's forced. She's trying to pretend she's fine and the rest of the group is tiptoeing on eggshells as they try to go along with it. She wants to pretend she's fine. Maybe she doesn't want to worry you all, but you know there is no way it's not an act. People dont just bounce back from bring tortured and put in a coma in a day. That she's trying to pretend that she has bounced back, acting strong for the group, is worrying. You don't need to be a psychologist to know that isn't healthy, but you cant just confront her about it. If you try and bring attention to her behavior and force her to open up she'll just get defensive and calm up. She'd deny everything and double down on her act. You'd just be making things worse if you try to force the issue now. So you'll have to wait. Gain her trust so she'll open up to you. Like in a video game where you need something from a character but have to reach a certain reputation level with them before they'll do it. You must have a higher relationship level with Caitlin before she will be willing to confide in you. Ok, so life isn't a video game, but the principle is sound in your opinion. People dont open up to others about their problems unless they really trust them, so you'll just have to get her to trust you. You just hope there aren't to many fetch quests involved. You hate that shit.
>>3855507>You just hope there aren't to many fetch quests involved.Love it! We’re such a nerd!
>>3855507That night you go to bed early so that you can get the baselines you need to figure out how to get rid of your need to sleep with your power. It takes a few days, but you figure it out. By artificially maintaining your cardiovascular health, blood glucose, neural health, and hormone levels, you are able to completely eliminate your biological need for sleep. You still do sleep every now and again however, because while your body may be fine physically, mentally speaking if you don't catch a few hours every now and again you start to feel like your thoughts get so thick they're going to leak out of your ears. But even with these occasional nights of rest you now have a wealth of time to use to work towards your goals. You decide to use the time to work on your control of your nervous system. What happened to Caitlin can not be allowed to happen to any of your other friends, and the longer you are here the more likely another incident becomes. You need to be able to get everyone out of here, and that means your top priority has to be getting the control implants out. You lay in bed at night experimenting with your nervous system. You start with your toes. After all if you screw up and loose some feeling during your first experiments better that it happens to something relatively unimportant. You rapidly determine that you can grow new nerve cells as you wish. Though it's much more difficult than commanding muscle and bone to grow and it's slower it is possible. You practice making your nerve endings expand out and recede back until you feel confident enough to take the next step. You need a way to hook into other people if you are going to save your friends, but for obvious reasons you can't just go trying to jack into other people's nervous systems willy nilly. So you try some dry runs on yourself. You grow a small needle of bone that projects from underneath your fingernail to sheath a bundle of newly grown nerves and act as a conduit for them. Then, you jab yourself in the leg with it and cause the new nerves to grow. You grasp them with your mind and order them to reach out and entwine themselves with the existing nerves in your leg and patch themselves in. You take pointers from how the implant is hooked into your own spine for that one actually. It's somewhat satisfying that the very obstacle you are working to overcome has a hand in teaching you the techniques you need to overcome it.
>>3855571It's and exceedingly odd feeling, wiring in new nerves. There's some pain, but not a great deal. It's more of an extreme sensation of pins and needles than anything else. The fact that the sensation is amplified by the additional senses given you by your powers doesn't help any, but you deal with the discomfort. Intertwining new nerve bundles is actually pretty easy. It's unwinding them and disentangling them safely that's hard. You have to go one strand at a time not to damage anything, and it's agonizingly slow. You're sure you can get faster with practice, but it takes an hour or two to disconnect even the simple entanglements you are making to practice on at first. With how complex the tangle of nerves attaching the implant is unhooking it would take hours at your current speed. But, as the days pass and you keep practicing you get faster and faster, and you gain confidence that eventually you'll be skilled enough to be able to disconnect the implant quickly and cleanly.
>>3855594Larson begins to teach you how to mimic other people's appearances, or how to just change your own for a disguise. He starts by teaching you to change your skin tone. "It's a really easy change" your teacher tells you as his skin starts to darken. "But it's damn useful for a lot of things.""For example" he says as he raises a finger and begins to lecture "commit a crime white as the virgin snow and the cops will put out an APB for a white male. Change your height a bit and darken your skin some and they'll overlook you completely cause they aren't looking for a Hispanic or a black guy." "Damn useful if you're traveling and need to lay low too" he continues. "If you look like one of the natives, like you belong there, then no one will give you a second glance. It's how I got away from the doom patrol in the Congo once, just blended on in and Robot man ran right past me." After you get a hang of altering your skin tone he starts you on altering your body type and shape. Wider shoulder, narrower shoulder, barrel chested or thin as a rake. Hips and limbs you learn to alter them all. Then he starts you in on small things like finger length or how the toes curl. "Body type is obviously important." He tells you. "If your target has 50 inch shoulders and you show up with 42 inch shoulders it's going to be obvious something is wrong, but you can't forget the little details either. Like toes. I ever tell you how I got made on a job because I got the guy's fucking toes wrong kid?" You shake your head no and he smiles and leans back. "Alright you keep practicing and listen up and I'll tell you the story." Larson says to you. "So I get hired as a body double for this bigshot Russian right? It's pretty early in my career, I haven't quite figured things out yet, and I needed money to take another run at the doom patrol. Gott I was an idiot then. Anyway so this guy he pays me real handsomely to take his place for a few days so he can run off and visit his mistress without his wife figuring out see? And I figure it's easy risk free money right? And it was going good at first." "So I've been pretending to be the guy for a day or so and I'm doing alright when his wife starts coming onto me one night. She wants me to join her in the jacuzzi and she isn't taking no for an answer." He pauses for a moment and shakes his head at the memory before continuing. "Now I'm trying to play it cool and figure out how to avoid fucking my client's wife right? Figure he won't exactly be happy with me if I do, but I can only stall so long. So I strip down and go to get into the Jacuzzi and pray I'll be able to figure something out. She's in the water waiting for me and I'm taking my time getting in, and I pause for a moment with my foot on the edge of the tub, and my toes are right in her line of sight. She does a double take and then starts screaming like a banshee about how I'm not her husband and calling for security."
>>3855637"Bastards middle toes were crooked" Larson chuckles "and mine are straight. You'd think people wouldnt notice shit like that, but she did. 'your not my husband those aren't my husbands toes' she says. I mean for fucks sake did they have a foot fetish or something, how the hell do you even notice that?""Anyway so picture this kid. I'm buck naked in a fifteenth story penthouse in Russia and half a dozen angry Bratva burst in with pistols drawn. My employer's wife is huddling down in the Jacuzzi trying to cover her tits with one hand and pointing at me with the other screaming bloody murder, and all I can think as I bail out the window is 'fucking toes? Seriously?" He pauses for a drink of water and then tells you "So you always mind the details Kid. Little things might not trip you up on simple jobs, like replacing a security guard to get in to a building, but they will bust your ass if you have to pass close inspection on a more important job. That's why you gotta get into the habit of always minding the details, you can't let yourself get sloppy and cut corners or you'll end up having to jump out of a fifteenth story window buck naked while Russian gangsters try to put holes in you." Eventually when he judges you are ready he gets you started on altering your facial structure and appearance. It's tedious, a slow process of getting everything just right as you look back and forth between a mirror and either a sculpt on the bust he brought in or a computer generated image changing things a bit at a time until you match. To keep things interesting larson takes to entertaining you by doing impressions with borrowed faces. "Why do I wear the mask?" He growls in a pretty decent imitation of a native Spanish speakers accent while masquerading as the infamous criminal Bane. "Because the god damn super steroids made my hair fall out and shrunk my balls. I'm compensating."
>>3855661Of course your lessons aren't just on changing your appearance. He keeps you practicing in your big transformed form, which you mentally dub big guy, as well. Larson makes you do ever more complicated tasks as you acclimate to the different body until it feels almost as natural to you as your original form does. Sometimes as he has you run through obsticle courses while transformed, Larson will just kind of talk. About the Life, or on one memorable occasion about his home town. "Nothing more beautiful than standing on the top of the mountain back home as the sun sets in the winter." He tells you one day. "The light reflects off the fjord and the snow and the whole world shines. Gott I miss that view. Give damn near anything to see it again." "Why not go back then" You pant out as you haul yourself through the air along a suspended net. "Can't" he tells you. "I'm not welcome anymore." He sighs and then says "Forget I said anything kid, just an old man's rambling. Now shut up and hurry. If you've got breath to ask questions you've got breath to beat your last time." You learn a lot in Larson's lessons. In your other classes you take the time to start getting to know the other students outside of your friend group. Partner with them for group work and whatnot. Way you figure it building bridges and improving relations with your fellow captives can only be a good thing. You start with Dieter in your Acquisitions class. He's a bit full of himself, but he's a nice enough guy. He does poorly on infiltration assignments and it sucks to be partnered with him for them, but he's the best safecracker in the class. He just uses his powers to make the tumblers turn and unlocks the damn things easy as breathing. Your teacher starts bringing in the most complicated high tech safes she can get her hands on and he just waves his hands with a smug smile on his face and they swing open. It's kinda irritating honestly. You have to labor away with a torch and camera and a stethoscope for ages to get even the more basic ones open and he just waltzes through even the most complicated locks. It doesn't even make sense how he does it, magnetism shouldn't be able to do that. You call hax. If Dieter is the guy you want for safe cracking then your other classmate Xolani is the go to guy for breaking into secure locations unnoticed. The quiet African kid can compress himself until he's a micron thin and then just slide under doors or between cracks. If there's no cracks he just phases through the walls somehow. He doesn't talk with you much. Whether that's because he doesn't like you, he's just shy, or because he's self conscious about his English you can't say. But, you work together just fine during the exercises in class when you get paired up, which you figure is a good start.
>>3855707It's a lot harder to get to know the guys in your "Interpersonal Relations" class, since the only group work is sparring, but you are able to bond with them bitching about sensei's sadism. Lewis, the short kid with mutton chops, can take a beating even better than you can. Broke his damn arm one day during a spar, didn't even need a Father Box or medical. Just pulled it straight and splinted it into place and it was healed up as good as new in a snap. You dont really have anything in common with him personality wise though. All he wants to talk about is rugby or women. Never girls, women. Theres a distinction according to him. Well you know jack shit about the game, and it can get a bit uncomfortable when he starts getting a little too vocal about his fantasies. You really could have happily gone your whole life without knowing what he wanted to do to the headmistress in the sack. The other guy with you in that class, Francisco, is a bit easier to get on with. The Hispanic kid never was with white hair, he hung out with the Polynesian chick and the Japanese girl instead so there's no awkwardness there, and he's kinda socially awkward and scrawny which you can relate to. You talk video games sometimes. It's pretty nice. Evenings are spent with your friends. Helping Liz with understanding what she's learning in her programming class. Getting destroyed by Roxy at DDR. Listening to Ralph's stories about his cousin's hijinks. Introducing Tara to pop culture because apparently her nanny had been of the opinion that rotting your brain with TV was for peasants. Fuck that noise, no friend of yours shall go through life without knowing the joys of television. And throughout it all you find little opportunities to grow closer to Caitlin in accordance with your plan to gain her trust so you can help her vent.
>>3855734One night helping Liz with programming turns into a delightful discussion on the comparative strengths of different programming languages when Caitlin surprises you by speaking up and adding in her two cents. Turns out your redheaded friend is a bit of a computer wiz. "I wanted to be a computer science major" she tells you. "Maybe double major in Electronic Engineering. You know, before." Roxy forcing the two of you onto the DDR machine despite both of you protesting that you can't dance leads to commiseration as she confides in you how awkward she feels after her transformation. "The only good thing about the change was that I don't need glasses anymore" she snorts. "I only came up to here before" Caitlin tells you as she lays her hand flat in the air just below her bust. "It was hell at first. I could barely walk." "Yeah I get that" you reply. "My teacher has me grow myself up to seven foot and run obstacle courses. It sucks. Still, at least I can shrink back down. It's really impressive to me how well you've adjusted honestly. I dont think the others get it but I understand how hard that had to be.""Honestly the height change isn't even the worst part" she tells you. "It was hard at first but I got used to it." "The worst part is these" she says as she gestures to her impressive endowments, apparently on too much of a roll complaining to notice you flush. "It feels like someone strapped a pair of volleyballs to my chest. I look ridiculous, like a blow up doll, and they keep getting in the way."Yeah you have no idea how to respond to that. Aren't women supposed to want bigger breasts? "And the guards and the other guys keep staring at me like I'm a piece of meat" she shivers as she crosses her arms over her chest defensively. "I hate it." "I'm sorry" you blurt out, uncertain what else to say but feeling like you have to say something. "Don't be" she replies with a small smile. "You and Ralph don't have anything to apologize for. You treat me like a person not a pair of boobs. I really appreciate that."
>>3855795On a different night listening to Ralph tell you all a story about his cousin Jim getting drunk and driving a haybailer into a ditch she talks with you a bit about her own family. "My cousin Karin is more like a big sister to me than anything." Caitlin says to you with a smile on her face. "My Aunt and Uncle took me in after my father died, so we grew up together. She always looked out for me in school. She set anyone who thought it would be a good idea to pick on the mousy geek straight. I look up to her a lot." All in all, as you approached the end of your first month at the supervillain school, things were going good. Well, as good as things can go when you are a victim of kidnapping and human experimentation being groomed for a life of crime against your will. You had good friends, white hair hadn't given you any shit in a while, you're getting along with your classmates, and Caitlin has opened up to you enough that you think you should be able to bring up the sensitive topic of her experience with the father box soon and have her be comfortable enough to actually talk with you about it. You've even made good progress on your escape plan!Yeah, as you lie back in your bed in the early hours of the morning and practice tangling and untangling new nerve bundles you feel pretty good about things. On top of the world even. And then the screaming starts.
>>3855797>And then the screaming starts.Ah shit, what now?
>>3855797And this is when OP flakes for another month
>>3855797>And then the screaming starts.shit! Is it ours or someone else’s?
>>3855817Seems a bit unwarranted. Dude did just write a wall of text. I doubt he'd abandon on such short notice after that. I know I wouldn't after putting that much effort into something.
>>3855797A blood curdling shriek rends the air, loud enough to be heard clearly even through the thick concrete walls. Someone cries out in terrible pain. You startle and leap out of your bed and are halfway to the door when the intercom blares to life. "All students are to remain in their rooms." Orders the voice of the headmistress. She doesnt aound very chipper now. "I repeat, remain in your rooms. Any student who leaves their room will be disciplined harshly. That is all."The screaming fades away to silence, and with little other choice but to wait you sink to your bed and worry. Who was screaming? Why? You dont have to wait long to find out. When morning comes you and the others are assembled in the courtyard before breakfast. There is a stage that's been set up. The headmistress is standing on the stage head held high and hands clasped behind her back. Lying prone at her feet is a twitching wretch who moans piteously. It's Xolani. "This ingrate" the headmistress snarls as she motions at the boy sprawled out on the stage "has seen fit to spit upon the generosity shown to him by this fine institution of learning. Given the opportunity to receive a quality education and a chance at a better life he saw fit to steal food and attempt to abscond from the premises rather than graciously accept what he had been given. Mr. Xolani felt himself too good for our school it seems, and behaved in a most inappropriate manner in attempting to leave us without so much as a word." "As such he has been disciplined." She says venomously as her thumb caresses the button of the Fatherbox visible in her hand. You hear a whimper from somewhere to your left as her thumb traces over the button, and then its drowned out as the headmistress continues speaking. "Mr. Xolani will no longer be attending our fine institution. He will instead be spending his time in a corrective facility being rehabilitated for his disobedient tendencies."She pushes the button, and there's a loud booming chime as a golden gate opens under Xolani and he disappears. "I trust none of you are foolish enough to follow his example." The headmistress says. "You are dismissed."Immediately you seek out your friends, looking around until you see a few of them over to your left. They all look shaken, but Caitlin is the worst. She's pale as a ghost and you can see her trembling. As you watch Roxy walks up to her and puts a hand on her shoulder before saying something to the redhead softly. You can't hear what Roxy said but you hear Caitlin's reply clearly as she says loudly "I'm fine Rox, don't worry about it." And brushes the smaller girls hand off. You feel a tug on your sleeve from behind and look over. It's Tara. She looks over at Caitlin and then turns to you with glistening eyes and asks in a small voice. "What do we do?"
>>3855940What do you do? >Take Caitlin aside and tell her that she doesn't have to lie, you know she's not fine, and that's ok and you're here for her.>Take Caitlin aside and wait for her to calm down. Be patient with her and wait for her to broach the subject, but under no uncertain terms allow her to avoid it if she won't.>Take Caitlin aside and try to comfort her. Tell her it's alright and she won't ever have to suffer that again because you are going to get everyone out of here.>write in.
>>3855941>>Take Caitlin aside and wait for her to calm down. Be patient with her and wait for her to broach the subject, but under no uncertain terms allow her to avoid it if she won't.
>>3855817Eh I guess I deserved that. Hope you're enjoying the quest anon.Well, what do you all think? Decent? If you have issues with how the timeskip was handled please raise them with me so I can consider them before future time skips. Personally I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm open to constructive criticism. Well you all voted to try and get Caitlin to confide in you, and I figured that actual moment when she opens up to you about her experience was too important not to have it be in your hands so here we are. Good luck anons I look forward to seeing your choices.
>>3855941>>Take Caitlin aside and tell her that she doesn't have to lie, you know she's not fine, and that's ok and you're here for her.We aren't prepared enough to reveal our intentions. Especially not with a psychic around.Though she does have latent psychic abilities herself...
>>3855952I liked it.
>>3855952You're doing great and I'm enjoying the quest.
>>3855941>Take Caitlin aside and wait for her to calm down. Be patient with her and wait for her to broach the subject, but under no uncertain terms allow her to avoid it if she won't.
>>3855941>>Take Caitlin aside and wait for her to calm down. Be patient with her and wait for her to broach the subject, but under no uncertain terms allow her to avoid it if she won't.>>3855952I think the time skip was very well done. And I also really enjoy Larson's stories, it really fleshes out his character, not to mention they're funny too.
>>3855941>Write in>Take C aside and comfort her. Don't do anything stupid like tell her we're planning an escape - just go up to her, say 'hey' and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. If she wants a hug or to open up and talk then sure, we do that, otherwise just let her know we're there and we care about her.And don't worry about the flaking comment, I'm just yanking your chain. Its good to have you back. Timeskip was handled well too.
>>3855982I love writing Larson. Honestly it's one of my favorite parts of the quest. I was grinning like a loon as I typed these out today. Glad to hear you liked it too. >>3856000Eh I figured it was some good natured ribbing, and like i said I can't say I don't deserve it. S'all good anon, it's all good.
>>3855956>>3855959>>3855492Thank you for your support anons. And many thanks to everyone else as well.
>>3855941>Take Caitlin aside and wait for her to calm down. Be patient with her and wait for her to broach the subject, but under no uncertain terms allow her to avoid it if she won't.Time to put all that bonding to the test.
>>3855952Larson is great I'm gonna really miss him when we leave. Having a supervillain like that is really refreshing and personable. I wish he wasn't the only one. Personally, I wished we could see some of our peers changing. So far only Caitlin has been shown and we know Tara becomes a REAL piece of work thanks to them. I wish we could see glimpses of that. Which serves to provoke the players into rushing. Like we are in a fucking supervillain school and getting brainwashed on top of that. Yet we only see how fucked up the faculty is but not our fellow students.I do wish things were a bit more clearcut in terms of our power upgrades and manipulation. Anons are still kinda blind on what to do with that.Beyond that, the time skip was really quite good. It was clear and concise telling us what we needed to know which is what matters. Seriously though we need more villains like Larson to appear.
>>3856077Thank you for sharing your concerns. I appreciate the feedback, and will do my best to take what you have said into consideration for the improvement of the quest where I can. Thank you for being here, and I'm glad that despite it's flaws the time skip was satisfactory for you. In regards to the concerns you have brought up as I understand them. 1: Seeing our peers changing. To quote the relevant passage about Wax's brainwashing in the words of the man himself >I can rewrite them directly if you want, but that only works as long as I’m in regular contact with them so I can renew it. I learned that the hard way. My new method is much better. Sure, it takes longer, but give me seven more months with them to slowly build up alternate memories and new latent personalities, and when the new personas are stable enough not to fall apart we flip the switch on graduation day and they’ll believe they came here to serve you willingly.Doctor Wax's efforts are insidious and subtle, given time there may be visible signs but we are in the early days yet. You are correct that it would certainly add some tension to see more visible signs of this, give things a sense of urgency, and I will take into consideration how to do so in a way consistent with the existing lore and direction of the quest. 2: The focus on Caitlin. You are absolutely right that we've been pretty focused on her in this time skip, and I have been somewhat concerned as to how it would be received. That being said while we've had the spotlight on her for a bit I fully intend to have opportunities to explore all of our friends present and future as the quest goes on so that every one gets their time in the spot light. Depending on decisions made by players and the will of the RNG of course. 3. Your gains being unclear. I get this concern, I absolutely do. Honestly I was so focused on getting the update out I didn't pepper it with the mechanical bits relevant to what was happening while you were getting your gains. So, here's what I'm proposing. Tomorrow I will post an updated stat block with your gains from this time skip, and we will take a minute to review the mechanics used for the quest so that everyone can have a good idea of what they can do. Additionally we'll have some Q and A so that if people have things they don't get I can clarify things wherever possible. There are some things I want to not spell out, because I feel like doing so gets rid of some tension and room for exploration on your part, but I certainly don't want to cause confusion or frustration. If I am doing so, I apologize. Larson is a one of a kind Gem. There can be no other like him. Ok but seriously jokes aside I don't know how many more like him we will encounter. It will depend on your choices and where we end up going and who we end up associating with. Good night everyone see you all in the morning.
>>3856167I more meant other characters with that level of depth. They don't have to be just like Larson. It's just nice to meet a supervillain with actual depth to their character besides the bad guy stereotype. I know Mr. Freeze is an easy one considering his wife it's just nice to see another side of them is all.
>>3856443Ah, that makes more sense. A valid point. I probably should take the time to further develop the staff. I do have plans for one of them actually, so we'll see about shining some spotlight in that direction here soon. Thank you again for the feedback anon. It's good to have things that can be improved pointed out. Give me a mo, and we'll see about getting that new stat block up.
>>3856443With our abilities we could probably cure Nora.
Alright, mechanics blurb incoming. Mechanically speaking your character is described by a series of dice pools.Ours currently arePower dice (4)Cliche'sWallflower (4)Nerd (4)Hacker (2)Cat Burglar (2)Martial Artist (2)FormsBig guy (3)Skinchanger (2)When you try to do something you choose an appropriate cliché to determine your dice pool for preforming that action, like a nerd knowing trivia for instance. Dice are d6 unless specifically stated otherwise. You add up what you rolled, so if I rolled 3 dice and they came up 1 2 and 3, i'd have rolled a total of 6.When you are doing a skill check you are trying to beat a set number, a DC. So something easy might be DC 5, something hard would be more like 10+. If the combined total of your dice is higher than the dc you succeed. In combat you and your opponent both roll the dice appropriate to what you are trying to do. Whoever rolls the higher total wins the combat round. The looser takes damage, which is represented by loosing a dice from the cliche they were using. We can stack our power dice with an appropriate cliche for an action that uses both our powers and one of our cliche.Additionally there is a mechanic that allows you to surpass your limits called pumping a dice pool. A pump is when you push yourself beyond your limits knowing it will hurt you. This adds a number of dice to your pool for a single roll. So If I had a cliche of 4 and I pumped it for 2, then I'd roll 6 dice for the pumped roll. But, after that your cliche takes damage equal to the number it was pumped by. In addition to our Cliche’s and our power dice as part of our power set we have forms which we can assume. Forms can be assumed through a successful powers roll. While in a form it adds dice equal to it’s quality to applicable rolls. These dice can stack with both your cliché dice, and your power dice for applicable rolls. Forms may subtract dice from rolls they are unsuited too. For instance certain forms may be bad for sneaking around, while other’s may not be useful for a fight. You remain in a Form until you either voluntarily leave it, or take enough damage to run out of dice entirely.
>>3856599Now as you can see you’ve had some gains over the time skip. Specifically 1. Your power dice pool has gone up. You’ve gotten better with your powers. You can do more with them and find them easier to use. This is pretty significant. 2. Your Martial arts and Cat burglar cliche’s have improved, very useful for combat and for break ins (our break outs) 3. Your form: Big Guy, has improved in quality. This means it is both easier to assume this form, and that when you do you get greater benefits from it. Now rather than adding a single dice, Big guy adds three for appropriate dice pools.4. You now have Form:Skin Changer. This reflects your ability to transform your appearance or even assume another's identity. It is represented as a form mechanically for the following reasons. One it logically makes sense that using your powers to assume a new appearance should be tied into a power dice roll, which forms are. Two, forms give dice to appropriate dice pools, and being transformed in my mind should be used to provide additional dice for pools used to deceive or infiltrate since masquerading as someone else is what it’s meant to do, and forms do this. Therefore after consideration I decided that a Form was the best way to do it. If there are any questions please let me know.
>>3856602do we get limited or hidden consiquences if we have not seen the whole body like the toe story?
>>3856642I would imagine so, because appearances are shaped by much more than genes. You have diet, exercise or lack thereof, accidents that could stunt growth or disfigure, use of makeup, wigs, surgical procedures...
>>3854603What is the point of accumulating strength if we have nothing to use it for? Strength for strengths sake, or in this case biomass for biomass sake, is meaningless.
>>3856691perhaps the same could be said of all lifeforms
>>3856700Your gains are as empty as your calories.Metakind ill needs a savior such as yourself.
>>3856704What is a meta? *flings dessicated corpse aside* A miserable little pile of genes! But enough talk! Have at you!
So Monnie and this quest convinced me to give young justice a go and I just finished marathoning all three seasons. I actually quite liked them, and I have something I absolutely must say. I need to scream it to the heavens. Major spoilers for the ending of young justice season three below. Seriously you have been warned. Tara didn't betray the team. FUCK YES. Finally a Tara plot that wasn't just a tired rehash of the same old shit. No betrayal, no absolution through death, just Tara doing the right fucking thing for once. Fuck I am so happy right now. Fuck all you who said Tara was trash and could only ever be a traitorous selfish bitch! We now have a canon version, a canon version in the universe this quest is based on no less, where Tara is a decent repentant human being. I have legitimately had sex less satisfying than watching that episode. I literally can not contain my enthusiasm. Fuck I need season 4 right the hell now.
>>3855940>>3855941>>Take Caitlin aside and tell her that she doesn't have to lie, you know she's not fine, and that's ok and you're here for her.Voting's still open guyse>>3856713You know, some mutations in the vein of vampire powers would be useful. Well we're essentially a vampire with the ones we have, just that we don't need blood.>>3856742hell yeah brother
>>3856745We are no mere vampire, we are a good aligned Tzimisce. A rather exotic specimen indeed.
>>3856642>>3856648An excellent question. So when you go to use your powers to assume someone's shape there will be a check right? With a set dc. The more research and preperation you do, the lower the dc will be because you are better prepared. Now even if you fail the check you will still transform, just like how in combat if you make the check to change into big guy and you fail you still transform. You are using your powers and just failing the skill check won't mean you can't use your powers as you have chosen to use them. What will happen if you fail the skill check is you will take "damage" to the dice pool given to you by the form. So for instance right now let's say you try and turn yourself into white hair to impersonate him for whatever reason, and you make the check. You'd get two more dice (because its currently quality 2) for all checks related to pretending to be white hair. But let's say you fail. You still transform into white hair, but maybe you only get one bonus dice, or if you fail really badly maybe you get no dice or even negative dice. This would reflect your disguise being imperfect mechanically as it would cause it to be less effective when you make checks. Thing is you can still pull off a con with an imperfect disguise. You can have flaws in your impersonation, but that doesnt guarentee they will be noticed. 99 percent of the time people dont really notice the toes. You could theoretically fail a check, have an imperfect impersonation that only gives like 1 dice, and still make all the following checks like a boss and pull things off. It would just be harder. Larson has a definite profesional opinion on how things should be done based on his personal experience and he has high standards as a professional, but many shapeshifters get by playing things far more fast and loose than he does. Alternatively even if your disguise is perfect physically speaking you can get tripped up by not knowing something the target knows. An inside joke etc. Assuming someone's identity is a dangerous game not for the faint of heart, but the rewards can be immense. I hope this makes sense. I think it works pretty well. If you have more questions please ask.
>>3856648Like how There are also predispositions "paths of least resistance" le genetics but still people find a way to fuck up there body or work HARD against them for a better life. And also how much something like i did slipping on a football breaking the same collar bone completly twice so much my arms had the limb symetri of a tree that healed into a audibly poping and clicking when moving bow shaped bone that healed ontop of itself for the second time
>>3856745You are correct voting is still open.
Right I don't think there's going to be any more votes at this point, but I'll leave voting open until my lunch break in an hour, and then I'm going to need some rolls. Thanks for playing everyone.
>>3856952Can't participate much, back in class.Hope you are well. Glad you're back.

Rolled 4, 2 = 6 (2d6)>>3857065So?
>>3857075Technically until we have best of first three. This reminds me I forgot to mention the winning result. >>3855941>Take Caitlin aside and wait for her to calm down. Be patient with her and wait for her to broach the subject, but under no uncertain terms allow her to avoid it if she won't.
>>3857092Forgive me, I'm not quite certain what it is you are asking.
>>3857065So I guess we pulled it off with that 10 over (I'm assuming) her 9?
>>3857356Well you are certainly off to a good start.
Gonna be headed home here in just a minute. Update will probably be in about three hours since I'll need some time to think and type once I've gotten home. Gonna have to apologize in advance for tomorrow. I've got plans so I won't be around. After the update tonight things will pick back up Sunday.
>>3855952Late but I think it’s been pretty baller so far, keep it up Monty 16!Get it? It’s like monitor shortened down to mont and add the e and it’s mont-e Monty. Monty 16. Big brain
Right, I'm sorry gents. An opportunity to indulge in a rather more stimulating activity presented itself and I'm afraid I haven't got anything for you at the moment. I've plans tomorrow evening as I mentioned, but I'll see if I can't find time tomorrow afternoon to write up what I have planned seeing as I failed to deliver tonight. Sleep well everyone. >>3857508Thanks for being here anon, hope you continue to enjoy the quest.
>>3855952Im late, but it was very well done, to the point where I feel much more confident asking for time slips in the future.
>>3857960that time skip has gone really well. also what are your thoughts on separate identities like should we stay subtle constantly changing proportions names and faces? or should we also do these flamboyant and obvious personas sometimes? like big guy as our brute but human force form possibly some light modifications like modified jaws for that james bond assassin feel then something completely inhuman all stop away for the most efficient thing we can make armored to the literal and metaphorical gills and possibly one as the villain in the rotating chair with the cat and has a whole gimmick deal?
>>3858641We don't really need dozens of fake identities just yet.
>>3858641Multiple personality anon is back. Quick, let's close the main gate before he enters.
>>3858645thats true but we could just brainstorm and think up ideas for forms identities or upgrades that are general like what do we want to get out of a form for survival?like how we cant pull biomass from nothing so we need them to fight tooth and nail to even harm us. so lets talk about redundant organs and circulatory system possibly two separate kinds of nervous system.possibly aluminium platting for that possible anti-psychic properties and just how light the metal and how strong it is when treated right or using tinfoil for the mental resistance if aluminium does not work.due to full armor platting we should have a cooling system we could possibly use the principles for refrigerators with the rubber bands?,what about segmentation on bones so the segments only separate when put under too much force like inbuilt faults to avoid worse damage and easier healing and we can have ligaments and muscles to hold together the segments and have elasticity while they heal and still be useful? we include stuff like the eagle eyeball shape the oxygenation and the rod flip for just better vision,we should include like a armored lens over the eye thats fused to our sockets so the eyeballs dont get poped out or crushed as easily and protect agains chemicals and gasses like inbuilt googles. >>3858655who? also why personalities i am talking about looks for hiding or doing jobs without having it traced back to us? you know with the whole mimicry class we have had with teach to assume identities as someone else and fitting in to a crowd?
>>3858641>>3858645>>3858655>>3858660like for upgrades we can ask for more raw food to get access to all those animal parts play up our animal like instincts we have gotten from our powers. 1. fish for all the swimming and water living adaptations and taking up heavy metals in some amounts without it becoming deadly also all that fish oil, the mucus membranes for general lubrication if we get like stuck or need to glide into something like a vent without getting stuck or making lots of noise and the scales that comes with it.3. there are some fucking cool things we can get if they get to know they can reward us with exotic meat or plants play up that desire for live flesh both common and uncommon
no fucking ideas or did you just cringe so hard you did nothing
>>3858841>>3858841Who or what are you addressing man? These things take time be patient people have jobs and lives. 4chan isn’t their lives it shouldn’t be anyone’s really. Encourage QM’s they aren’t like a random anon or an OP without them the threads die.
>>3859228and also different timezones also >>3858655 basically meaning i dont want to eal with who i think this is and non-existent confidence in my shit throw together writing
>>3859342Sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been busy all day.Ther was some anon in the previous thread that wanted to create multiple identities for Mercer and was a little too enthusiastic about it. Then another anon said that creating different identities and using different faces and "lives" too often would cause some serious mental problems to our favourite Biokinetic boi. Then we proposed that practicing one or two disguises for a missions would be enough to serve as a plan B and would avoid the risk of getting nuts by practicing a dozen different masks every day.
QM plz update, is good qst
>>3860013I will anon. Like I said I had plans tonight, went out on the town y'know? So listen I'm sorry it's been s while but i did try to warn you do it shouldn't come as a surprise or be a cause for concern. I'm not going to post right now. it's two in the mornin and I'm headed home and I feel like shit. . Lemme sleep and recover and I will update within the next 20 hours. I do shit on the weekends man. I'm sorry that means slowing things down here in the quest but I have s life outside this man sorry if I'm being s bit to blunt I don't mean to be rude just tired and a bit out of it.
>>3860039Probably shouldn't try running every day. only only manage a few posts per day an snails pace.
>>3860039You're not being rude. Everyone has a life outside of this, well at least i hope everyone has one.
>>3860063>>3860039Or run every few days, etc.Basically, try to stick to a schedule, but give a heads up at least a few hours if humanely possible if you can't.
>>3860039Nah, its all good. You said you had plans and might be too busy to update. Anons are just clingy and demanding.
>>3855940>>3855941You can see Roxy is still trying to get through to her. You see her shush Caitlin and then the two of them fall into a heated whispered discussion. If Caitlin’s facial expression is anything to go by, it doesn’t seem to be going well. Fuck, you can’t just let this play out, and getting more people involved isn’t going to work either. If she’ll argue with Roxy she’ll argue with Liz and Ralph too. Might even snap at Tara. Even though it would normally be unthinkable for Cait to do that she can have a bit of a temper, and her back’s far enough up against the wall right now you could see it happening. Something has to be done before one of your friends does something they'll regret, someone has to do something, and unfortunately your it. Shit, it looks like it’s time to find out if all that time spent bonding has paid off and you’ll be able to get her to open up. How though?Tara is still looking at you expectantly and you realize you haven’t answered her question and she’s visibly growing more agitated the longer you take. You need to placate her before you have two friends experiencing break downs. You aren’t even sure if you can handle one emotional woman, there’s no way in hell you are going to have to try and handle two at once. “Don’t worry Tara, I’ll take care of it.” You tell her with far more confidence in your voice than you are feeling inside, and she lights up and smiles at you, trusting you to somehow be able to fix this. If only you had as much faith in yourself as she did. And now you need to go over there, which means you have precisely ten steps to figure out a plan. Right, first things first, pushing her in public isn’t a good idea. You need to take this somewhere more private or there’s no way she’ll drop her facade. Honestly pushing her in general just seems like a really bad idea when she’s this worked up. You need to wait for her to calm down, and then talk to her when she’ll be more receptive, but there isn’t that much time left in the breakfast period and then you’ve got to go to class. That’s another problem, class. Honestly you don’t think she’s in the right mental state for it. Sure it’s just powers class today, but not everyone has the benefit of a teacher who is a halfway decent human being even if they are a super villain. A private location, and time, that’s what you need and getting them isn’t going to be easy. The common room and the cafeteria always have people in them, and it’s not like you can just skip out on classes so there isn’t a way to buy yourself time. You’ll have to go to Larson’s classroom and she’ll be sent off to the courtyard...unless you can figure out a legitimate way to get her out of class. Maybe get some help to do it from Larson... No, that’s a stupid idea. Crazy. Crazy, but you can’t think of anything better, and honestly what do you have to loose?
>>3861617You take a quick peek over at where Caitlin and Roxy are. Liz and Ralph are there now and things don’t seem to have gotten any calmer. Gotta be quick about this. You turn and make a detour over to where the staff are standing. Specifically to where Larson is looming with his arms crossed over his chest and a frown on his face slightly apart from the other teachers. Most of the other staff members are leaving but he remains still standing there glaring at the stage as they walk away. You jog up to him and say “Listen, can I talk to you for a moment.”“What is it Kid.” He snaps with the frown still on his face. “Look what happened wasn’t my choice alright?” “This isn’t about that.” You tell him, then you step in close and say quietly “I need to ask a favor.”You don’t whisper, whispers actually carry pretty well. You read that once, it’s much more effective to talk normally but quietly than to whisper if you don’t want other people to hear you. At least that's what the book said. “A Favor?” He asks with a raised eyebrow. “It’s my friend Caitlin.” You say quickly. “I’m worried about her, she didn’t take this well. She needs help.” “Kid I’m a killer and a con-man not a therapist.” He grunts at you “”I can’t help you with that.”“I don’t need to you to fix it, I just need to talk to her.” You say “I can help, but I need time. Can you get her out of her class today? Say you want me to practice sparing with a super strong opponent or something?” “Kid..” He trails off with a grimace“Please sir” You practically beg. “There’s got to be something, I can’t just let her stew in this, I need to talk with her and I need time to do it. Please Larson, please.” He looks at you for a minute and then lets out a long deep sigh and murmurs “för i helvete.” He looks at you for a moment, and you look up at him silently, then he sighs again and says, “Fine Kid I’ll figure something out, just bundle her off to the classroom and have whatever talk it is you gotta have. I’ll have breakfast sent up, just get out of here before anyone asks any questions and I’ll sort things out.” “Thank you.” You tell him. Holy shit he went for it. “Thank you.” “Don’t thank me yet Kid I might not pull it off.” He tells you and waves you away. “Just go, if I can’t convince the headmistress you aren’t going to have as much time as you’d like so you’d best not waste any of it.”
>>3861620Right well then, no time to waste. You run over to where your friends are standing. Roxy and Cait are still face to face with the others sort of hovering around them. Time to break this up. “Hey.” You call out as you get closer to draw their attention. “Caitlin, my teacher just told me we were going to be working together today for powers class. Come on, we need to go get ready. There will be food in the classroom and we don’t want to keep Larson waiting, trust me.” Horse shit of course, but it serves it’s purpose. Given an easy out from a conversation she clearly doesn’t want to be a part of Caitlin takes it. “Coming.” She calls, and then she turns and jogs over to you and you lead her to your classroom. You open the door for her and then when she steps through take the opportunity while out of her sight to pause and look over at your other friends. You smile, flash them a thumbs up, and mouth “I got this.” Actually now that you think about it you don’t know if they can read your lips. Eh, Tara will tell them. You lead Cait up the stairs to the large open classroom where you meet with Larson, and then you wait. You take the time to look over at the latest sculpt on the bust to start getting a head start for when Larson has you start mimicking it, wander around the room for a moment and check out how the latest obstacles have been set up. If anyone asked, you’d say you were giving Cait time to cool down, but being honest with yourself you know you’re a little afraid to be the one to start the conversation. Eventually you can’t putter around the room anymore so you go over to where Cait has sat down against the wall and sit next to her and continue to wait. Several minutes pass with both of you just sitting there in silence. It’s a little awkward but you decide to wait for her to speak up. Eventually she looks around and asks you “So where’s your teacher? I thought you said he’d be waiting.” “He’ll be around.” You say with a lazy wave of your hand. She seems to have calmed down a bit, so you take the plunge. “Listen Cait, can we talk?”
>>3861624“Sure” She says slowly, looking at you suspiciously “What is it you want to talk about James?” “I’m worried about you Cait.” You tell her honestly. “What happened this morning seems to have really bothered you and-” “I’m fine.” Your friend cuts you off sharply. “The only thing bothering me is all of you hounding me.” “We’re your friends Caitlin we care about you.” You tell her as you turn to face her and look her in the eyes. “Well I appreciate the concern, but I’m fine.” Caitlin says. “Really, there’s no need for you to worry.” “Caitlin I’m your friend.” You tell her. “I’m your friend. You can talk to me, I’ll listen. Keeping this bottled up, denying it, it isn’t healthy. What’s wrong Cait?” She stiffens, and looks away, but doesn’t say anything. You can’t help but wonder if you’ve made a mistake, but you can’t take back what’s done and you aren’t giving up. So as she pointedly refuses to meet your eyes you continue to watch her and you wait, letting your question hang in the air. “Stop” She snaps at you. “Stop looking at me like that. I told you I’m fine, there’s nothing to talk about.” “Don’t you trust me?” You ask her softly. “I just want to help you Caitlin. Please, just let me help you.” “I do trust you.” She protests immediately turning to face you. “I do.” “Then why are you lying to me?” You ask her, allowing your frustration to bleed into your voice.“I’m not.” She immediately protests but then quiets under your gaze and then chokes out“I...James please, I can’t talk about this.”“It’s, It’s not about not trusting you, I-I just can’t.” She says, her voice gradually shrinking as she speaks until you have to strain to hear what she’s saying. “I’m barely keeping it together. If, if I talk about it it’s going to be real. I’ll fall apart. I can’t.” What do you do? >Tell her that it looks like she’s already falling apart and it’s going to be worse the longer she lets it fester>Tell her that if she doesn’t want to talk about it she doesn’t have to, and that you’ll make sure the others don’t bring it up either>Pull her into a hug and tell her it’s alright, that you’re here for her and she can let go. >Write in (Write in’s highly encouraged.)
What the actual fuck am I doing right now? Help. Bit longer than the within 20 hour window that I promised but here it is. Sorry for the long wait, busy weekend. I will see you all tomorrow and I hope you are all doing well. >>3860063>>3860071I'm not quite certain what it is you are trying to say. Because it sounds like you are saying you are concerned with how the quest is updating at a snails pace, a fact which I do not deny, but your proposed solution seems to be that I post less frequently? I'm sorry I don't quite get it, if I were to miss days things would get positively glacial, even more so than they already are. I promise I'm putting as much time and effort into this as I can. I really appreciate you all being patient with me, and being willing to be a part of this. I am sorry it can't be quicker, but this is the best I can do.
>>3861629I for one don't have a problem with how often you update. I'm just happy you update at all.
>>3861626>>Tell her that it looks like she’s already falling apart and it’s going to be worse the longer she lets it fester
>>3861626>>Tell her that it looks like she’s already falling apart and it’s going to be worse the longer she lets it fester>>3861629What I think they mean to say is that you should keep to a schedule of when you run for consistency. Like "I'll update on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but weekends are me time" or something like that. That way people won't panic over you not updating on a day you're not running.
>>3861626>Tell her that it looks like she’s already falling apart and it’s going to be worse the longer she lets it fester>Tell her that if she doesn’t want to talk about it she doesn’t have to, and that you’ll make sure the others don’t bring it up eitherSome combination of these, like "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, but if you keep it locked up it'll be bad for you"
>>3861626>Write in (Write in’s highly encouraged.)It's already real. The only difference is whether you choose to face the fact now on your own terms or later when it blows up in your face. Its something everyone has to face. Albeit often in different ways and results. Right now I bought you some time and while I don't have an answer for you. At least you won't be facing it alone if you choose to face it now. I can't make you do it but deep down I know you know what will happen if you keep refusing to face it. >>3861629I think all their asking for is a clearcut schedule. Both so you don't burn out and to allow anons to know when to check-in.
>>3861626>>Pull her into a hug and tell her it’s alright, that you’re here for her and she can let go.
>>3861629As for updating, I think you're doing fine. Maybe a bit slow but it's not like you're getting paid for this so whatever. >>3861640>>3861662I don't know about you guys but my life doesn't operate on a timetable like that. One week I might be free on Monday, the next I might be going out or have some mates round. If Monitor finds that posting when he gets the chance is the best way for him to run then that works for me. I'd rather not slow everything down just so he can force himself into some artificial schedule.
>>3861629I'm saying, maybe make a schedule, and run some days here and there, and then take a few select days off. On days you take off, you give anons advanced warning you are not running. This is to help you not burn out, and give some structure to the quest, and when we can expect updates and etc.>>3861640Fairly spot on.>>3861662Doesn't have to be clear cut in an absolute sense. More like have an idea when, and try to stick to it, but if he can't then its not a big deal. If he makes a regular schedule that we can expect certain days, but ends up unable to run for one reason or another, I ask he gives at least a few hours warning if its possible.Ultimately its to be up to him, and how he determines it.
>>3861640>>3861662>>3861760I mean having a schedule and then letting people know when things aren't going to happen was kind of what I was going for, though I haven't been doing too well. The general schedule unless specified otherwise in intended to be an update a day, which I know I've been far from perfect about keeping but its what I'm shooting for. I can't always promise specific times because sometimes stuff comes up or the creative juices aren't flowing, but I try to do one a day and when it hasn't happened I try to pet people know why. When I foresaw that I wouldnt be posting because I had plans I let you all know the day before. I said " got plans saturday night, be back with you sunday." Now I muddied things up by not posting Friday and then saying I'd try for saturday afternoon, and how late I got around to it sunday didn't help things either, but otherwise I've tried to post daily and I've tried to keep you all posted with what's going on that affects my ability to run. I know before I was much more specific with times before, but my situation currently doesnt allow me to do that. My employment situation has changed. Improved actually, but it's come with new demands on my time that can be a bit sporadic depending on when they need me, so I honestly can't say at x time I will post, because that would require that i both know I will be available at that time and that I have time proceeding it to write, which I can't guarentee when I'm on call as it were. I'm trying to make the quest as consistent as I can, because I understand consistency makes it a better experience for you guys, but updates daily with variable times and communicating if there are delays is kinda what works for me at the moment. If there's a better way I'm open to suggestions, and I'll keep trying to figure out ways to improve but this is mind of where I am. On the subject of burnout I understand the concern. It's a concern I have as well and something I am trying to avoid. If I need to take some time off like I had this weekend I will let you all know, and it's possible there may be brief hiatus between threads when a thread has completed before the new one goes up, but at the moment I'm feeling engaged and fine. Voting is still open. I'll leave it open for another few hours maybe close it in about 4 hours or so unless it becomes apparent there won't be any more votes. Update might be a bit late tonight, got an obligation to help out a friend this evening so I'll be writing a bit before I go help them and finishing up after. If it's looking like the update won't happen until tomorrow I'll let you all know. I repeat, voting is still open.
>>3862003Just ignore it. Do you and stop responding when people bitch. It just wastes time and effort and detracts from the quest. I get you are just trying to be nice and considerate or whatever but just let it be. Bitches gonna bitch, ignore them and just do your thing.
>>3861626Not really happy with any of these but I can't think of anything better. I'll get back to you with my vote I'm going to wait to see if there are any good write ins I can support. Let's take a minute and unpack this. So Caitlin is putting on a strong front to protect herself? To protect us? Is it just pride? The conversation seems kind of stilted. Also what the fuck was with the larson thing?
>>3862070Showing concern for qm and trying to encourage him to run at his conceive without pressure from anons, is bitching in your view. That's sad. I wonder what criticism would look like to you.
>>3862250Alright look I'm an abrasive shit alright? Let's not start anything, no bad feeling behind what I said I've just got a mouth on me. How bout rather than shitflinging we discuss the last write up and decide how we want to vote, seeing as neither of us has voted yet? Get some positive talking going eh? Maybe explain what your thinking is going on and talk out a plan. Personally I think she's just being proud, but I'm not sure how to get around that pride, cause no one likes to have someone poke a hole in their pride.
>>3862257I'm trying to think of a write in but I never get past 3 words before scrapping it.Probably gonna go with the first option at this rate. I kind of have writers block, and just can't get in a writing mood without distraction.I think the mind control stuff may have some part in it, but we really just don't know. We didn't know her personally that well to know how she thinks to compare to a baseline.
>>3862261I dont know man the mind control just made her ok with the killing I don't think it would extend to this. I'm in the same boat with the write in, only got an hour left too. What kind of vibe are you going for with your answer? Maybe talking about it will help you figure out what to say.
>>3862265A personal one, where we try to emotional reach out to her on a private one on one, face to face interaction with an understanding and sympathetic mindset or something.Whenever I get started i end up having to leave my keyboard to do something and lose my train of thought.
>>3862273Hmm something less generic then. Let's consider what we know about her that may be relevant then. 1. She used to be bullied.2. She had an "older sister" figure who looked out for her.3. She looks up to this older sister figure. She likely tries to emulate her. 4. She's attempted to stand up for us in the past. One of the first scenes that had her featured her trying to stand up to white hair. 5. She doesnt want to worry the others? Wants to look after and protect them? This one is more conjecture but I think there's evidence for it. Remember when we had Roxies point of view and we learned some of the other girls were harassing Cait, but she told Roxy not to worry about it and that she was fine even though she was crying at night? This seems kinda like a similar idea. So the question is what do we appeal to to make this more personal and get through to her? Bring up the cousin maybe? I mean qm wouldn't just give us pointless details, there has to be a reason we learned what we learned during the time skip and that like the most relevant thing I can think of. Idk I'm shit with women and emotions in general.
Hello everyone. Sorry got a bit busy. Anywho Looks like we have some people still trying to decide how to vote, and I've got a bit before I could get writing anyway so I'm going to extend voting time by 40 minutes and call it on the hour. Last call though, there will be no further extensions so if you want to vote please do so, and if you want to do a write in dont worry if it isn't perfect just submit the best you can and I promise to take it into consideration in the Wright up as long as it doesnt directly contradict the general consensus of the vote.
>>3861626> It's better that you fall apart now and rebuild while you know you can than never knowing when and where it'll all come tumbling down.
Right, votes called. Could I get a few rolls of 2d6 please.
Rolled 5, 5 = 10 (2d6)>>3862424Ok
Rolled 2, 1 = 3 (2d6)>>3862424>>3862426Nice
Rolled 2, 5 = 7 (2d6)>>3862424
Rolled 1, 5 = 6 (2d6)>>3862426>>3862428>>3862433Right, thanks lads. Let's see.
>>3862441How’s it going, E-16?
>>3862694Good. On my way home. I'll update when I get there and then go to bed. Sorry it's late but like I said a friend needed me.
>>3861626After her soft confession you wait a moment to consider her words before speaking. You try to put what you have to say as delicately as you can. “Caitlin” You say softly “You’re already cracking, if you keep this up it’s just going to get worse and you’re going to break.” She stiffens and draws in on herself. She looks away from you down at the floor, and that’s worrying, but you’re committed now. “This, this thing you’re doing.” You continue. “Trying to tough it out, it isn’t working. Don’t lie to yourself Cait, you’re smarter than that.” “I’m doing the best I can.” She says with a voice thick with emotion. “What more can I do James? What more do you want from me?” “It’s not about doing more, you are amazing Caitlin. I’m not trying to say you aren’t.” You tell her, desperately trying to think of what to say. You think back to suicide prevention seminars at school, horrible thought but it comes to mind, and the time your parents took you to a therapist, and you do your best to convey what you can remember from them. “You are amazing, but you don’t have to hold yourself to an impossible standard. Caitlin it’s OK to cry, it’s OK not to be perfect. Crying doesn’t make you weak, it’s human. I won’t judge you for it.” She doesn’t say anything. Alright, platitudes didn’t do the Job, gotta keep trying. Fox two. “It’s like, like a water tank.” You say, thinking of the first thing to come to mind. “If you keep increasing the pressure inside the tank eventually it won’t be able to take it and it’ll rupture. That’s why they design safety features, pressure release valves so that if the pressure starts to become too much they can let some of it out.” “You’re under all this pressure, in all this pain” You tell her. “And you just keep forcing it down and bottling it up, but it’s too much. If you keep this up Caitlin you aren’t just going to fall apart you are going to go to pieces. You need to let off some pressure. Let me be that pressure valve for you. Cry, scream, whatever you need to do I’m here for you, because I’m your friend.” She isn’t looking away anymore, she’s angled slightly towards you now. “You said if you talked about it you’d fall apart.” You say. “Well maybe even if that’s the case it’s better to let yourself fall apart now, where it’s safe and you’ll be able to put yourself back together, rather than waiting and then falling apart when you aren’t ready for it.”You hear a sniffle, and then your friend starts to cry. Not just tears either, heaving sobs that shake her whole body. What do?>Fuck you screwed up and now she's crying. Quick, apologize. >Wait for her to cry it out and be ready to talk when she’s done>Rub her back and console her while she's sobbing. >Write in. A.N. I'm terrible at this sort of thing but I hope it isn't too bad. G'night.
>>3862871Where we bullied at all in school why did we end up going to therapy? Also how old are we again?
>>3862871>Wait for her to cry it out and be ready to talk when she’s done
>>386287914, if memory serves? Can’t remember why we were looking for self-help or whatever the kidnapping pretext was though, haven’t reread the archives in a while.
>>3862871>Rub her back and console her while she's sobbing. >>3862879We were a smart nerd who skipped grades and was very good at fading into the background. Hence why we didn't get our asses kicked all the time. Naturally, we were quite the loner as a result.

>>3862996At the end, “Oh, and if you need any other kind of release?” *wink* “Let me know!” Boom! back on the list!
>>3863013>>3862996Honestly I don’t care. I just think it’s funny to mess with people sometimes!
>>3862879>>3862893>>3862895You are 14 at the moment. As the other anon recalls you did skip several grades, which was hard on you. You weren't actively bullied, but you were isolated socially and suffered due to that isolation. I don't think it unreasonable for your parents to have seen your poor emotional state and have attempted to get you help personally. Vote's still open, I'll leave it open until lunch break unless something comes up, so about five more hours.
>>3862996>Caitlin >no longer a possible waifuYou wot mate? How in the hell does this remove Caitlin as a potential romantic partner for our boy? Do you think emotional intimacy somehow makes people draw apart rather than together?
>>3862996>>Caitlin off the waifu list.>Not wanting a busty muscle goddess to be the big spoon while cuddling you radiating kindness and affection.Bad anon.
>>3863196I mean I personally can understand if that isn't his preference. I think if he doesnt find Caitlin attractive conceptually he definitely has very different tastes from me, but I can get it. Won't call shit tastes. Different strokes for different folks and all that. What I dont get is why he's writing her off after this scene. This doesnt seem like the sort of thing to take someone off thr possible Waifu list. Unless he thinks we've offended her or something and screwed up so bad we are now off her list of potential husbandos.
>>3863196Incedentily I dont know that she's all that muscular. Busty yes, very tall, and obviously super strong, but has she actually been described as muscular?
>>3863206She's not early Schwarzenegger ripped, but she'd got hella abs. Enough muscle to look fit but not enough to look like a steroid abuser. Meta genes are bullshit, remember?
>>3863208Pretty sure that was the explanation for physics defying shit, but I guess it's also an good explanation for why everyone in comics are super attractive. Meta human bullshit that nets us fine birds is meta human bullshit I can get behind. Prepare world for our legion of superhuman liberators who all look like pin up models. We will raise money for the cause with a swimsuit calendar. Caitlin can be miss October since she'll go well with fall colors and we can make Liz December or January. We will make millions with the power of meta human bullshit's ability to make perky gravity defying beasts!
>>3863216*Gravity defying breasts.Fuck you auto correct.
Just checking in. Vote will be closing here shortly when I go on lunch, so consider this your last call to vote on our current action. Now real quick while I'm here there's something I'd like to bring up for consideration, namely your escape plan. At this point you have at least an idea of how to use your powers to remove your implant and your friend's implants. All you really need there is practice. You also know roughly where you are, likely a hundred miles or so off the east coast of the United States, from some of your previous efforts to prepare for your escape. The thing is, you don't really have an escape plan persee at this point. At least none I am aware of. Now way I figure it it may be beneficial for you all to discuss among yourselves when you want to try and escape and how you want to do it. Plan it out as it were, think about how your skills and your friends skills/powers can be beneficial to you. This isnt a vote or anything, you aren't locking into a plan or a course of action, this is just a suggestion that maybe you guys should discuss this issue and brainstorm a bit.
>>3863347We need to learn some animal abilities and store a decent amount of mass. If we learn to camo ourselves we can scout out defenses and patrols at night. We can try to go for a giant squid type thing once we got the water. Though I'm just spitballing.
Alright, vote called. Winning vote is. >Rub her back and console her while she's sobbing. With three votes. Working on the update.
>>3863347I think the plan will change greatly depending on how many people we want to get out an what powers they have:1.-If we go solo we can leave easily, just remove the implant and put in inside a rat/vermin so they think we are still on the island (just in case they monitor our vitals and position). After we get rid of the implant, we shapeshift into something that can breath underwater (better if it looks normal, they could find the rat and use a sensor to seek any weird sea mutant) and swim until we get to Gotham. If we can, we seek batman and warn him about the illegal Metahuman traficking island (and, if we are fast and lucky, Hive won't have time to dismantle the operation).2.- If we get our friends out, we could develop plant consumption and a way to eat massive ammounts of biomass in a short period of time, then ask Ralph to grow plants like a madman. With a few tons of biomass we could create a form large enough to carry the entire group. Caitlin can act as a shield and cover us (she can shrug off bullets and even missiles). Liz can power us with electricity (small discharges into a big as fuck warform won't do damage). Tara can either defend by raising chuncks of the oceanic floor or throw said rocks to any ship that chases us (depending of her level of control, she could even make a sandstorm and compact the sand around the Hive soldiers).3.- If we want to Magneto all the metas in the facility... well the thing gets serious. We could take all the complex, probably killing most of the wards and teachers, losing a lot of friends in the battle unless we pull some targeted bioweapon bullshit, supplant and assasinate/put into an induced coma as many enemies as we can before starting the attack, etc. But we could lose the battle or win but get the selfdestruct the island treatment. We could also eat as much biomass as we can (from Ralph's vines/any other metahuman that can generate or acquire biomass in large ammounts) and release the kraken, put everyone inside our body or carry them with the tentacles in air bubbles or some other method we can get from our fellow Metahuman, taxpaye... I mean citiziens of our great Empire.Just some questions QM (or any anon that can help): How many prisioners are in the facility, what are their powers (only those we alredy know), will all the teachers chase us and fight us or some of them will just leave when they are told to fight a large group of Metahumans.Feel free to improve the plan.
>>3863216We will conquer the world with the power of tits. Has any villain thought about this before?
>>3863478That's a really good point. They're definitely tracking our implants so we're need to put them in something before we try to be sneaky.
>>3862871>Rub her back and console her while she's sobbing.
>>3863404>>3863347Personally, I always thought we were gonna go kraken whale hybrid in order to dive underwater and supply air to the others. As a means of escaping and evading detection. Otherwise, the only other person who can help is Tara but the problem is lifting a large chunk of rock with everyone on it for over a hundred miles while being open in the air makes us super vulnerable. Better off using it as a means of the engine or for self-defense.To be honest, though most of our friends REALLY don't have useful powers in terms of escape potential...I mean we are practically the only one or two if really wanna stretch it with Tara or Ralph turns out to be seriously holding back on us.>>3863478This anon gets it. If we go alone we don't need a whole lot of biomass to fuel our powers and its easy in comparison to other options. If we want to escape with others acquiring a massive amount of biomass is a must. The easiest way to acquire lots of biomass is to go fishing or being able to consume plants.Ralph MIGHT be able to help a lot more if his plant powers were more similar to our own in terms of bullshit manipulation potential. As it would mean he could derive a plant-based ride monstrosity and other fun stuff. In terms of what the fuck can we do...if we don't acquire a massive amount of biomass, we won't be able to take anyone with us when we escape. We also have to experiment with massive aquatic and frankly nightmarish forms in order to facilitate an escape with company. Our best bet is going underwater as it would fuck over what they can use to detect and capture us with. I personally don't suggest escaping by air or the surface of the water as it would make us highly vulnerable.
>>3863743Caitlin if we get the implant out of her will be able to wreck some major havoc in our escape. She can potentially also make the swim herself thanks to her superhuman physical abilities.
>>3863747Damage potential is not escape potential. As for her making a swim for it, their countermeasures are going to be best against the air and the water surface. Being underwater will fuck over what they can do and makes it harder for them to find us. I would rather not fight against the ENTIRE faculty of HIVE and whatever goddamn defenses they have put in place to deal with incoming superheroes or their students. Its a position to fight from that we would be very weak in. Escaping is better and sadly we are the only one whose power has actual good potential for being sneaky and running away. The sneakier/faster we are the more countermeasures of theirs that we can entirely elude.
>>3863743Couldn't Tara tunnel, or something? Oxygen would be an issue, but the others could probably assist with that, either by helping provide more oxygen somehow (Some sort of telekinetic tube to the surface or something?) or by limiting their personal oxygen consumption (Us, and probably some of the others)
>>3863762Same problem as levitating rock in terms of endurance which is the main problem for Tara. We can abuse the shit out of running on spare biomass meaning we don't tire so long as we got fuel to burn. Tara doesn't have that. Once she gets tired she stays tired until she rests. Not a good idea when you got all of HIVE's faculty after your ass. For Tara it's not that her escape potential is bad it's her stamina that is the issue. She can easily burrow under the seafloor or levitate a rock as a ride but for how long? THAT is her biggest problem. During our escape taking a break is a big no no as it would give HIVE time to catch up. Which is the main reason why we get stuck with handling transport because we can endure the constant rush so long as we have the biomass to fuel us.
>>3863478I can do one better. Get a Fatherbox, boomtube to Markovia, live a life of luxury with Tara and company. Or better yet, boomtube to the Justice League HQ and get them to save everyone. The question lies in getting the Fatherbox first. It could be as easy as causing a mess then stealing it from the staff, but fighting the staff includes fighting teachers and lackeys like Mammoth and Psimon, we could win if we get all of the students to fight but there's a high risk of some dying in the process.I say we do it the stealthy way, since we are probably going to remove the implants during the night, that same night we steal someones identity (maybe Larson, maybe some mook) and find the Fatherbox. But we have to find out where they leave the Fatherbox the day before.>>3863743I thought we already talked about this, there is no way in hell we can become a kraken (a whole new fucking lifeform, mind you) in 6 months when making changes in our normal body is so slow, much less pull it of for the first time during an escape.
>>3863791Weren't Mammoth and Psimon acting as mercenaries? They aren't exactly normal staff.
>>3863794If Psimon can be called from work to brainwash Caitlin, I'm guessing a students rebellion is as good of a reason to call him. But if there's only one Fatherbox (which I doubt) then I guess they would have no way to boomtube to his location.
>>3863791All we have to do is eat a tiny squid or octopus(common in seafood dishes) then experiment with a tank of water to practice in. After that, with enough biomass we can supersize it into becoming a full blown Kraken. Not actually that hard technically. Its why I voted for the shapeshifting into beasts training. It would have made things even easier.
>>3863791Even if we do get the Fatherbox, it's sentient and won't likely work with us.Eating it, however, might be something we can do.>"Okay Daddycrate, boom us outta here!">"You can't tell me what to do Meatbender!">"Fuck you!">"Eat me!">"...">"Wait what are yo-GREAT DARKSIDE NO!!!"
>>3863989Wait the Fatherbox is sentient?
Right, checking in letting you all know what's what. So I don't have an update at this time. Didn't get home until like an hour ago and I needed to decompress. And now I need to get to bed because I have to get up tomorrow to go to work early cause the VP wants to talk to me about something. And I'm hoping it's good, but I'm kinda freaking out a bit as well. I strongly considered staying up a bit longer and trying to slap something together, but I can't, I'm sorry. Have a good night, I will see you all tomorrow.
>>3864062Good luck, Monitor!
>>3863995Fatherboxes are sentient. They're also evil, since they're made in Apokolips.
So here's a thought, what if we have Ralph grow us a boat? Like a raft or something and then we just have Caitlin flutter kick off the side to propel it. Like in the incredibles when they use Dash as a motor, but instead of a super fast kid it's a super strong girl?
>>3864344Don't really think that a Caitlin propelled vessel would work. She'd probably tire quickly, and it'd be rather inefficient anyways, if it worked at all. Ralph growing us something that could substitute as a vessel might work, though. We'll need to see how his powers develop to know for sure however. We could probably work out some other form of propulsion, from among the rest of our number. Maybe have the telekinetic tow us along, or put some rocks on it somewhere and have Tara use them to push. Or both. Maybe we can pull it along, if we assume some larger aquatic form.
>>3864749If he can grow a vessel he could probably grow some around rocks and have Tara move them forward to drag us. Best bet would be switching between different methods to keep anyone from getting too tired in case we need to fight.
>>3864749She can casually lift a tank man, I bet she could flutter kick and propel a boat as easy as you or I could get on a inflatable at the pool and kick ourselves around, but I do acknowledge your point that she would tire. Thing is wouldnt any other meta we had propelling it tire as well? Tara probably has limits with her geokenesis same as Caitlin has limits to her strength. And we have limits too. Idk man short of finding a boat or a teleporter I don't think there will be an easy solution.
Headed home anons. Long day. New project at work that the vp wants asap kept me occupied. Bout 40 minutes for my commute, then when I'm home I'll get to typing. Call it two hours and then the update should be posted.
I feel people are missing the obvious option:The island will have boats and such for coastal patrol and to pick up runners in the water. All we need to do is find where that is. Once you have a few ships they should have enough juice to get us to mainland USA because theres little to no islands too deep into the atlantic out east of the coast.
>>3864767>>3864759Have old mate grow the boat with some big leafy sails or we can eat a spider and weave some sails. Then we can use Geokinetics or superstrength just as a boost when we set off.Stealing a boat is probably easier though and we'll likely need to pass through the dock anyway to sabotage any vessels they might send after us.
>>3864963It's so obvious that they have no doubt considered the same thing and booby-trapped the hell out of their harbor. Much less all the fail safes installed into their boats to prevent them from being hijacked by escaping students. Its why anons would rather create their own transport that they know for a fact isn't hiding anything.>>3864986Wait haven't we snacked on any bugs yet?
>>3862871Seeing Caitlin break down crying, watching her shoulders heave as she sobs and seeing the glistening of light reflecting off her falling tears, you feel horribly uncomfortable. You’d of course set this up for the express purpose of getting her to open up, but you hadn’t really been prepared for the reality of watching your friend bawl her eyes out. Words just don’t feel appropriate, but just sitting there doing nothing doesn’t feel right either. After talking about how you’d be there for her and convincing her it was safe to let down her defenses like this you can’t just sit here silently. She might get the wrong idea, and just waiting it out isn’t really being very supportive. Awkwardly, and without any better ideas, you reach out and pat Caitlin on the back and murmur softly “It’s alright, let it out.” That’s what you’re supposed to do right? Damn it you should have watched more dramas or something, this kind of shit didn’t happen in any of the media you liked so you don't have any reference points, and it’s certainly not something you’ve had to deal with before. You’ll just have to wing it. She stiffens at your initial touch, and then sobs louder and launches herself at you, nearly knocking you over as the larger girl hides her face against your chest and twists her fingers into your shirt. She leans on you as she continues to cry, and you prop yourself up against the wall and brace yourself as best you can to keep her from dragging you down. She isn’t really pulling, you know if she was your shirt would probably give way or you'd be pulled over. You’ve seen this girl lift a tank, you have no illusions about your ability to resist her is she was actively trying to pull you over, but even if she isn’t pulling on you just her body weight dragging on you is pretty heavy. You transition from pats to rubbing small circles between her shoulder blades as you continue to quietly assure her that everything is okay, and she soaks your shirt with her tears and snot. It’s really really disgusting honestly, but you’re grateful for it, because focusing on the nasty mess she’s making of your shirt keeps you from thinking about how she’s practically in your lap and how you can feel her breasts pressing against you and how you’ve never been this close to a girl who wasn’t related to you before. It would be really awkward to pop a boner right now, and inappropriate, and fucking damn it why are you thinking about this? Snot and tears, think about the snot and tears man.
>>3865057You keep rubbing her back and slowly she begins to calm down. The sobs turn into sniffles, and her breathing starts to even out. “It hurt so bad.” She sniffles “everything was on fire. I felt so helpless, I just wanted it to stop, I would have done anything for it to stop, by the end I just wanted to die.” “I wished I’d taken the statue from you.” She confesses softly. “When the teacher was hurting me, I wished I’d taken the statue, even if I’d had to hurt you doing it. Everything hurt and I blamed you and Tara and Roxy.”“I’m a horrible person.” She whispers. “I’m weak, I should have been able to take it. I should have been able to do something to stop it, but I just lay there screaming like a weak little girl blaming you even though it wasn’t your fault. I shouldn’t have thought like that, I should have been better than that. I’m horrible, a horrible friend and you should hate me. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry James.” What do you do>Tell her that she’s right, she shouldn’t have blamed you, but you forgive her. It’s understandable she would think that considering what she was going through. >Tell her she isn’t a horrible person, that she doesn’t need to apologize and that she’s done nothing wrong. >Hug her. Words fail you, but hopefully actions will speak louder than they could anyway. >Write in.
>>3865064>>Tell her she isn’t a horrible person, that she doesn’t need to apologize and that she’s done nothing wrong.
Someday when I say two hours, I'm actually going to get it done in two hours and it's going to be a fucking miracle. Damn hard to write this scene. No real idea what I was doing so I had to spend some time reading about common reactions to trauma and some other reference material and thinking about how I wanted to play this. Hope it turned out alright.
>>3865064Tell her she isn't a terrible person amd hug her.
>>3863478Sorry anon I missed this anon. Let me go ahead and answer what I can. Number of prisoners in the facility/ what peoples powers are based on what you have seen and know currently. Please note this may not fully encompass the scope of every individuals powers as there may be more you are not yet aware of. List of students1. Us - Pretty sure you all know this one.2. Tara - Geokenetic3. Caitlin -Super Strength, Super durability, psionic potential4. Roxy - Gravity manipulation5. Liz - Electricity control6. Ralph - Plant Control 7. White Hair - Ice powers8. Redhead with White Hair - Pyro powers9. Blonde with White Hair, Wendy - She can fly10. Dieter - Manipulation of silverware and safe tumblers through invisible means11. Mutton Chops - healed 12. Francisco - Powers unknown13. Asian Guy- Powers unknown14. Asian? Girl - Powers unknown15. Polynesian weight lifter girl - Powers unknown16. Vlatavan Kid who harrased Tara - Powers unknown17. Tiny blonde guy - powers unknown18. Grandma? - Powers unknown 19. Silver/white haired girl - somehow knew caitlin had killed someone, saw her deforming a block of stone by screaming at it. 20. Xolani- Gone, but he had been able to phase through objects and reduce himself down to where he was microns thick. So as you can see including yourself there are currently 19 students/prisoners, and there had been twenty. I'm actually surprised that what happened to Xolani didn't merit more discussion. I understand he wasn't actually a character you knew well or cared about, but I would have though the nature of what had happened to him would be of interest to you all considering your own goals. Now with regards to your second question. How will the teachers and guards act in the event of an attempted breakout? Can't tell you that anon. That's spoilers, and incredibly meta. I mean how is James, who is you collectively, supposed to know how they will react? He can't know with a certainty ahead of time, he can only guess. You likewise will just have to make your own best guess as to what the faculty and guards will do. I can't just tell you. Besides that will depend on what you do anyway. In fact that might be something worth speculating about with your fellow anons. I highly encourage you all to talk about it and try and figure out what you think they would do by comparing your thoughts on the matter. Talk about what you think the teachers and guards will do and how you'll need to deal with that.
>>3865064>Tell her she isn’t a horrible person, that she doesn’t need to apologize and that she’s done nothing wrong.
Well I'm going to stick around for just a little bit longer and then I'm headed to bed anons. My apologies for the delay, many thanks to you all for sticking around despite my failings. If when you vote for this decision you could include some of your thoughts and opinions I would appreciate it. I ask this because knowing how you are reacting and feeling about this will let me try to work some of that into our MC's response when I work on the next write up. I like having more of all of your imput to work with because I feel like it helps me produce something better aligned with your intentions as players. Something closer to what you may have in mind when you cast your vote rather than simply what I had pictured.
>>3865064>>Hug her. Words fail you, but hopefully actions will speak louder than they could anyway.I'm totally happy for us to tell her its okay, she did nothing wrong etc but words are just window dressing in a situation like this. What she really needs is a good long hug - some physical comfort matters more than whatever we say.
>>3865064>>Tell her she isn’t a horrible person, that she doesn’t need to apologize and that she’s done nothing wrong.>>Hug her. Words fail you, but hopefully actions will speak louder than they could anywaybofa dees
>>3865064>Hug her. Words fail you, but hopefully actions will speak louder than they could anyway. >>3865093>Ralph Plant ControlWait does that mean he cannot manipulate them like what we can do? Only control them? Still a great power but damn so much for overpowered customization.
>>3865064>Hug her. Words fail you, but hopefully actions will speak louder than they could anyway.
>>3865064>>Hug her>>Tell her she isn’t a horrible person, that she doesn’t need to apologize and that she’s done nothing wrong.>>3865179Totally. Hugs before words.
>>3865200He can manipulate them as well. Think Poison Ivy or swamp thing. Just couldn't think of a good word for it.
Right so I'll leave voting open until my first break, call it three hours or so.
>>3865064>Hug. Girls needs a hug right now. We can talk while we hug her but damn does she need a hug. Fucked up right good in the brain pan she is. To anyone worried it's gonna lead to waifuism or something, this is not in any way sexual. She is in need of comfort and that's it, nothing romantic about this. There's no easy way to say this anons, so I'm just gonna say it, but I think qm is getting a bit desperate for feedback. I mean look at >>3865097He's practically begging. Figure it might be a good idea to do as he's asking. My experience is most qms get their jollies in a quest from player feedback .If we just pop in and vote without saying anything it might discourage him, and I really really don't want the quest to disappear again. I know people say its 4chan and lack of negative response is positive feedback but it's not and it isn't that hard to throw in your two cents about an update. Let's throw the man a bone, might even motivate him to post more often. Miracles can happen right? Can't hurt.
>>3865064>>Hug her>>Tell her she isn’t a horrible person, that she doesn’t need to apologize and that she’s done nothing wrong.Generally getting someone to decompress explosively like that means they want to talk it out, about everything.Just listen and be there for that someone, they'll appreciate that.>>3865407ah, I see you voted for the '>Hug QM' option
Rolled 4, 4, 1 = 9 (3d6)Vote called. Give me a mo to read and catch up and I'll start planning next update.
>>3865424Yes, I did. You got a problem with it? Dude takes the time to run this for us I figure the least we can do is let him know we appreciate it. It's not like he's getting anything for this otherwise.
>>3865454Running a quest is it's own reward.I mean, I think.Sometimes.Though player discussion is always nice.t. a QM.
>>3865455I don't know man yeah he might just enjoy writing it, in fact I'm sure he does like doing this or I don't think he'd be doing this, but everyone likes to be appreciated and everyone likes to know how their hard work is received. Like I said it can't hurtT- a former qm.
>>3854708It's been a week. Why do we exist only to suffer.
>>3865314>>3865314Oh damn. That guy is gonna be fucking scarier than even us in the short term and we can only really beat him in the long run. After all, he gets a specialty and only has to focus on plants. We are going to pull off some amazing bullshit together once we unlock plant DNA and work together. Holy shit the kind of plant abominations we can create together and with our help, we can even fuse him directly with the plants. Greatly amplifying what he can do(plus make him a LOT less vulnerable).Ooh he is gonna be VERY important to our escape plan now. Does he suffer the same problem with biomass like us or does he have some other restriction?>>3865455Half the fun of being a QM is seeing how badly can the players utterly fuck your plot and plans. If you can't learn to enjoy that pain you won't last long.
Without any hesitation you reach down and pull her up into a hug and squeeze her tight against your chest. “You are not a horrible person.” You tell her firmly. “James” She says as she tries weakly to pull away from you. “I-”“No” You cut her off and pull her back into you. “You’re my friend Caitlin. You aren’t a horrible person. Never say that again, I don’t want to hear it.” “Let go of me.” She tells you and pushes against you a bit harder, but still far weaker than you know she’s capable of, it’s a token resistance but you still let her pull herself out of your embrace. “Don’t you understand? I blamed you! I wished you were hurt not me! You can’t just forgive me for that!” “There’s nothing to forgive you for.” You tell her. “There’s nothing for you to apologize for Caitlin. You were being tortured, you weren’t in your right mind. Look do you still blame me?” “No” She says vehemently “Of course not, you didn’t do anything wrong.” “And neither did you.” You insist. “You aren’t blaming me, you aren’t wishing me ill, so what do you have to apologize for? A passing thought had while under incredible stress? Caitlin we all have thoughts we aren’t proud of, that doesn’t mean you have to beat yourself up over it.” “But-” She starts to say a“But nothing.” You tell her. “You’re my friend, and I say the fact that you’re actually feeling guilty about this is proof you’re a much better person and a much better friend than you are giving yourself credit for. Now let me hug you.” You extend your arms in invitation and wait to see what she’ll do. She looks at you for a moment, and then leans into your embrace and wraps her arms around your chest as you wrap yours around her. You sit there in silence holding each other for a moment and then she whispers to you.“I’m scared James. Every time I see one of those darn things I remember it again. I dream about it happening. I dream about watching it happen to you, and Roxy, and all the others. I feel so helpless.”What do you do?>Just keep quiet and let her keep talking, you heard somewhere that women don’t actually want you to try and fix there problems they just want to talk about them>Assure her it won’t happen again as long as you’re all careful>Right well she’s got it off her chest now. Best get ready in case Larson or someone else comes in. If he finds the two of you hugging he’ll probably give you all kinds of shit. >Write in.
Don't know why I'm spoilering this, but it feels right. Honestly I'm kind of afraid to say this, afraid to ask really, but I kind of have to. How has this last section been? Honest opinions? Frankly I've never written anything like this before, I feel really out of my depth, and I'm convinced I'm making an absolute hash out of it. I want to be able to write good emotionally real characters and drama, but it's not really something I've ever had to do before or learned how to do. So if I could get your opinions, feedback, suggestions etc so that I can know what is going well, and what I can improve in the future to do a better job if something like this comes up again in the quest, which I imagine it probably will, I would appreciate it. Right well I'm off to bed, have a good night anons, see you all in the morning. Regarding posting schedule for this weekend, I don't have any plans for Friday. Saturday I'm going to be busy so I wouldn't expect anything from me then, Sunday I should be around for at least one update, maybe two depending on how long it takes me to do the first, and I have Monday off work and no plans so I'm thinking I might try to do a proper session on Monday. Just dedicate most of the morning and afternoon to the quest if nothing else comes up. I'll keep you all posted and we'll see if that's what I end up doing.
>>3866392>Just keep quiet and let her keep talking, you heard somewhere that women don’t actually want you to try and fix their problems they just want to talk about themWow, I can't believe he actually heard something so true like that. It's true by the way. Unless a woman explicitly asks for it NEVER offer them solutions to their problems. They want someone to listen to them NOT make their problems go away...yes I know but women are like that. Just try not to think too hard about why and how irrational it is.>>3866402As a writer and QM the trick to good drama is basing it off real people/events. You can't really go wrong with that because it's based on reality and hence always grounded. If you are worried about it default it to real experiences and people. At the very least it cannot be soap opera bad that way. If you want realistic characters the secret is to treat them as if they were real people with their own lives. Problem is that is a pain in the ass to keep track of so many writers cop out on it. Realistic drama is simply a result of realistic characters' interactions. Now you are both blessed with and cursed with preexisting characters. This is a good and bad thing. It means less work for you but you may get fucked over by poor characterization to deal with. Personally, I don't think its THAT big a problem for you considering what you pulled off with Larson but it IS going to be an issue for you. Personally, I never had much experience with fanfic so I can't give any good advice but considering Larson I think at least your on the right track. No, you are not fucking it up. Drama is supposed to be dramatic so you are definitely successful in that regard with this whole thing. As for getting comfortable with it...short and sweet is ALWAYS better than long and painful. It will come out in your writing how you really feel about it. In this case, it actually worked to your advantage considering the MC's personality(no really it was so brilliant only someone who knew what to look for would notice if you didn't confess to it). So rather than torture yourself(and your writing). It always better to go for shorter until you get the hang of it. Then naturally it will slowly get longer with time. Just don't force yourself to make it longer if you can't stand it. Nice and short is ALWAYS better than long and painful.
Tbh, I thought it was believable and decently written
>>3866392>>3866434>Just keep quiet and let her keep talking, you heard somewhere that women don’t actually want you to try and fix their problems they just want to talk about themAnd if they ask for help no matter how illogical or petty or small thing when they ask for help with if you dont do it they hold it against youAlso good writing 101 dont force it too much streech the limits
>>3866392>>Just keep quiet and let her keep talkingYou're doing great. Don't stress it too much and just keep doing whatever you've been doing. If you need advice on writing I recommend reading some books on the subject or something. I'm not an expert critic but I have been enjoying the journey so far. Thanks for doing this quest! :)
>>3866392>>Just keep quiet and let her keep talking, you heard somewhere that women don’t actually want you to try and fix there problems they just want to talk about them>>3866402The writing's fine but a bit too drawn out for me. I like the emotional development and the actual writing is fine but four votes on exactly how we're going to comfort her feels a little excessive.
>>3866392>>Just keep quiet and let her keep talking
Just taking a peek between reps, but it looks like we have a consensus going. I'll call the vote when I finish my workout rather than leaving it open since there doesnt seem to be much point in waiting, and I'll try to get something up before work if I can. So call it about 40 minutes to an hour before the vote ends.
Right then votes called. Could I get six rolls of 5d6, and some 2d6 rolls as well please.
Rolled 4, 5, 6, 5, 4 = 24 (5d6)>>3866612
Rolled 5, 2 = 7 (2d6)>>3866612

Rolled 1, 2, 1, 4, 4 = 12 (5d6)

Oh shit, broken spine.
Never said it was your rolls. Just figured it might be more fun to have you all participate in deciding some things going on in the background with other characters while you've been talking with Cait rather than just rolling buckets of dice by myself. Speaking of. >>3866613>>386668124 to 23. Oh so close. So very close, but no cigar. Well shit, this is gonna be interesting, and I don't think you are going to be at all happy with me, but the dice have spoken.
>>3866689Caitlin is a powerhouse, she can smash mecha-tanks and has a monstruous psionic potential. Maybe she wanted to hug us so much that her body combined her natural superstrenght with telekinetic superstrenght, even a minor telekinetic boost like a ×2 would put her into the mid-high leagues of Metahumans. Add that to a soft and squishy "human" body and you got two halves of Mercer.
>>3866703Im not happy with you... but please continue
>>3866704>>3866693Well it isnt a broken spine, although that may have been easier to deal with. Don't know if that puts a damper on possible relations with Cait though. Not gonna lie she's my first choice personally at the moment for potential long term romantic plans but if she might snap us in half mid coitus I may have to reconsider.
>>3866714>forgetting we can heal>forgetting our own super strength will eventually be a thing.
>>3866703>Bad background stuffFug. I mean, I'm glad nothing went wrong with Cait, but still, not good.
By the way. I'm not sure if this is some established canon thing, I haven't seen Young Justice, but quick question. How exactly does this metahuman stuff work? Like, are all our superpowers collectively caused by some singular, inane, mutating gene, like Marvel's X-Men, or is it more that the goo they dipped us in is some catch-all for activating weird dormant genetic abilities? Just wondering for future reference.
>>3866712Why are you unhappy with me anon? I haven't even done anything yet. Besides troll just a little bit, but that's just good honest fun. >>3866743This is an interesting question, and one I'd be happy to answer. The answer will of course be chock full of spoilers for young justice, so anyone who cares about that sort of thing should probably not read any further. So the Meta Gene. Young Justice takes a lot of cues from Marvel's X-men and the X-gene, at least in my opinion. As best I can determine the Meta Gene appears to be a sort of trigger gene for systemic genetic change that causes different superhuman abilities to manifest depending on how it interacts with the rest of the person's genetics. There are a few reasons I posit this interpretation of the Meta Gene. The first is that it is canon in Young Justice that meta abilities run in families. There are three examples of this. First we have the Markovs, all of whom have abilities related to the Earth and Geological forces. Next we have Plasmus who exhibited the exact same change as his sister. Finally we have the Flash and his kids and grandkid all of whom have super speed. We can determine from this that the metagene runs in families, as does the manifestation it causes upon activation. Now in season three we have a scene where Bumblebee edits her babies genetics and makes them superhuman. Now her baby is stated not to have the Meta Gene as neither of the parents had the Gene. When she's shown editing her babies genetics it is telling that rather than just give the baby the meta gene, she actually edits the babies dna systematically and in a large number of ways one thing at a time. This implies to me that the powers and changes themselves are not all tied into that single gene sequence, that sequence merely causes/allows the changes to occur in the remainder of their genetic code. Also implied in season three is that all meta humans are descended from Vandal Savage. Who actually has a very interesting characterization in YJ, but that's a different topic. Basically if you have the Meta Gene and are exposed to the right stimuli, usually something life threatening or incredibly stressful, the Meta Gene activates and causes a cascade of genetic changes activating latent potential in your genetic code. Said latent potential appears to be an inheritable series of trait that run in families, but that can express themselves differently in individual family members.
>>3866777Hmmm, okay. I was mainly curious because I was wondering if, after working on learning how to examine and manipulate genetics, we'd be able to acquire, and then assimilate, our friend's abilities. And from the sound of it, it should be doable. If the effects of the changes were all limited to a shared, relatively uniform meta-gene that all metahumans have, I probably would have suggested avoiding trying to gain anything from our friend's metahuman abilties, mainly out of concern that to acquire them we'd probably need to tamper with our own meta-gene to try and assimilate theirs, which carries, well some rather obvious, massive risks. But if the meta-gene is simply a "Trigger", so to speak, and once the change occurs the things that enact and maintain the change are no longer dependent on the existence of the meta-gene, then it should be quite possible to acquire our friends abilities, with some work. At least, that's what I've reasoned out, with my admittedly extremely limited knowledge of how genetics work. Thanks for responding, at any rate.
>>3866787Bio-Amazo is a go!
>>3866789Y'know rather than Bio Amazo I'm actually getting syler vibes from Heroes if any of you watched that. We would theoretically be replicating things by figuring out how that person ticks after all. Of course we wouldnt need to cut their head open to do it...
>>3866790Nah, we're superior to Syler when we reach DNA manipulation/Meta Power manipulation.
>>3866789Yup. Mind you, there's a few abilities I'd prefer to steer clear of because they'd complicate things, but it's definitely something to look into. Probably for later though, after we've escaped. As much as making use of their meta abilities might aid in our escape, we're already cutting things rather close just working on our personal abilities. Trying to practice their abilities until they reached the point that they'd be at all useful as well would probably put a bit too much on our plate, even if we've by and large eliminated our need for sleep.
>>3866795Which abilities would you want to avoid?
You guys do realise that Mercer's potential ability to manipulate DNA/Metapowers/Alien DNA makes him one of the most if not the most valuable human in existence, right?Like, just about every villain will want a piece of the action when they figure out his game.I wonder what Lex will do.He's also potentially one of the most dangerous humans too.Truly, a messiah for Meta-kind.
So what do you guys think our weakness is some type of Bio nerve agent? maybe sound?
>>3866797Honestly, as extremely useful as it'd be, I'd much prefer to stay clear of Ralph's ability, for the time being. Plants are great, but if we got it we'd probably have to get involved with the Green if we employed it in any great capacity, which is just a whole bothersome can of worms that we really don't need to be dealing with when we'd already have a massive criminal organization on our tail. At the very least, I'd put it off until we'd become adept in all of our other friend's abilities. Outside of our circle of friends, I'd prefer to hold off on acquiring the abilities of the old lady(?) for about the same length. If she's got time powers or the like then it'd be best to wait until she's got a handle on them before we went and got them ourselves.
>>3866801I kind of think that Monitor should limit us to only human or only meta human dna in my opinion gives us a little bit of balance
>>3866803>having weaknessesNone in particular honestly. Honestly, there's not much we won't be able to adapt to.A Bio-Nerve Agent isn't much use when we can purge the poison and repair the damage, while also synthesizing an anti-toxin should it be needed.I can't imagine we'd be sensitive to sound either.
>>3866787>>3866789>>3866790>>3866793I'm still worried about getting powers from others, it would make us extremely OP. We should establish a limit, like our genetic code becoming too unstable if we got more than X powers at a time. We could have power "slots", starting with just one and getting more as we use our powers and study genetics, biology, etc. Changing powers could take a day or two, even more at first, and each power would require individual training. That way we would think twice before training secondary abilities (making us OP too suddenly) just in case we find a better version of said powers. Counting each Metahuman ability as a separated upgrade, unless said abilities are intrinsically linked would help as a nerf too (if the Meta is strong because it's muscles are dense, you get the strenght and the durability. If someone has superstrenght and telekinesis, you either get one or the other).
>>3866801Yeah, but you do realize that if we go full meta human god the monitor is going to throw some serious bullshit at us right? The higher we ascend the greater the foes we will face.
>>3866812I do, but I'm just saying that it's an option Mercer could go for.Hence potentially most dangerous.
>>3866803I mean, the strength of our ability is that, by and large, we haven't really got any inherent weaknesses. Due to our ability to alter our body with relative impunity (Once we've trained extensively, anyways), things like poisons, nerve agents, sonic attacks, electricity, pisonic assaults, fire, or just about anything else you can think of would be something we could theoretically adapt a means of defending ourself from. Of course, there's limits, we'll need to hone our ability to rapidly change parts of our body to a razor edge, and we'll want to curate and develop an extensive catalog of natural defenses against just about any form of attack we might face, but if we managed to pull those off, we would be able to protect ourself from just about any form of attack. Of course, our abilities do have one or two big blind spots. One obvious one is magic. There's nothing biological about it, so assuming we can't develop some sort of "antimagic organ" we'd have no real way to protect ourself from a spell, hex, curse, or the like. The other glaring weakness, though really this is kind of a weakness for literally everyone, is reality bending powers, which we have no real way to counter with our toolkit. I suppose we might be able to kitbash something out of bullshit meta abilities we acquire from others? But that would be more of a desperation tactic then an established defense.
>>3866811It would be op, but we are in a universe that has superman. Aka "I win, because fuck you that's how" man. We can't be worse than that, and if Darkseid is gonna potentially show up at some point I'd like to stand a chance.
>>3866803Extreme heat (it would destroy our cells faster than we can regenerate) and extreme cold (it would put us into stasis, and we can't command our cells if we are into stasis), also insane quantities of radiation (imagine your cells mutating and causing you tissue degeneration and cancer. Now imagine that said cancer is alive and sentient/animalistic and has damaged biokinesis. No one wants parts of his organs to mutate into independent, lovecraftian horrors that, like cancer, probably don't give a fuck if the host/mother organism lives or dies)
>>3866809Even in the Prototype games Mercer had a weakness to some type of gas and electricity I know we're not exactly PT-Mercer but everyone needs a weakness/restrictions>>3866811I'm definitely ok with this that's why I said above that maybe we should just be limited to meta genes only giving us a good enough power cap
>>3866822Another big strike against magic, come to think of it, is that we'd have no real way to "Adapt" magical powers for ourself. If we wanted to be able to learn how to defend ourself against it or use it we'd need to do it the old fashioned way. Not to mention we wouldn't be able to naturally enhance our magical talents either, so if we haven't got any we're shit out of luck.
>>3866822I doubt the effectiveness of poison/knockout gas/nerve agents by default, honestly. His internal biology is way too fucky.
>>3866829>everyone needs a weakness/restrictions *laughs in Martian*
>>3866825>>3866807Fuck, wrong link.>>3866822>Our only weaknesess are magic and green glowing stones. Lex Luthor wants to know your location.
>>3866826>cancer>an issueIt says something when you need to make it sentient supercancer to actually make it a potential threat to Mercer.
>>3866838And reality bending stuff. Probability manipulation, teleportation, time manipulation, and what have you would be stuff that'd be beyond our ability to fight or affect.
>>3866838And now the post appears alright but does not delete the "wrong link" part. Wonderful... (phoneposting is suffering)
>>3866811I mean, I don't know about setting limits on how many abilities we can have at a time, but having to put extensive training into each ability we acquired so that we could make it usable is kind of a given. We're not like Amazo, who can just instantaneously copy the abilities of someone and then employ them to the same effect as their owner. Acquiring abilities from our fellows metas would give us the baseline abilities, but none of their personal expertise. Maybe in a couple of decades we'd become extremely overpowered, but in the meantime we wouldn't be able to juggle learning too many abilities at once anyways, and we'd likely never be able to make use of them to the same degree as their original owners, since we couldn't go hard into any of them without excluding the others. Jack of all trades sort of deal.
>>3866842>Superman enters a bar and sees a superdepressed Mercer.S: What happens Mercer? Why are you so sad?M: I have discovered something terrible. I have a weakness. I can't get near green glowing stuff, magic fucks me up and space-time/reality manipulators can isekai me.S: We have a lot to talk about.
Isn't our weakness a gun in all honesty? Or just someone stronger than us? I mean we aren't invulnerable, we heal and we are tougher than humanly possible, but we aren't bullet proof. We can get shot, and I'm pretty sure we would die.
>>3866862Pic sorta related.
>>3866862We're talking about Mercer after actually getting some level of mastery to his power. If he can go the superdense/biometal route, he will be bulletproof anyway.
>>3866864>tumblr AND discordFucking doublecursed.Delete this shit immediately.
>>3866862In the brain, yes, but only if the damage is instantanious and lethal (and until we get psionics). Anything else is just a flesh wound unless we are low on biomass or you have so many bullets that can burn through our monstrous biomass reserve.
>>3866862Eh, I doubt it. Unless they put a bullet into our brain and instantly killed us, we could pretty handily repair most bodily damage, especially if we train our speed. If we could get to the point where we can quickly grow a new organ then a bullet to the dome would be the only real way to put us down. And even then we might be able to pull something off, if we made some sort of redundant secondary brain beforehand. Insofar as stronger opponents, well, one of our strengths is that we can manipulate our dna, and, with samples, assimilate the dna of others. So acquiring, say, Caitlin's super strength, durability, and such is entirely doable, along with the other abilities of our friends.
our weakness is we require biomass, so wearing us down with say explosives to remove chunks of bodily matter works.Once mass is away from our main whole we have no control over it (as of yet?). Though if we ever do figure out something akin to a synapse system then we become a walking world ending threat.
>>3866714Oh no, boy toy route unlocked. You see anon for supers like Cait her biggest problem is a partner who...well won't die or break easily when together with them. Guess who turns out to be the first one Cait just found? Personally, I prefer Tara but that is solely due to pragmatic reasons. I must say you have good tastes but keep in mind Cait will go hero and that is most unlikely to be our path.>>3866811This has already been discussed in previous threads and explained by the QM. Simply put our power is as complex and difficult to deal with as it is powerful. We get slow growth(literally all our classmates are better at using their powers then we are at using ours) in exchange for high potential. In addition, we have to 'unlock' abilities within our power because we literally don't know how to use it to its full potential. That is why we can't work with plant, fungi, or directly with DNA yet nor can we manipulate biomass outside our own body(which is actually one of our most powerful and main abilities but we can't even use it yet). Accordingly, the QM outright stated metagenes manipulation(see being able to steal powers and gift them to others) is end game tier. Meaning it's going to take ages to unlock enough abilities before we can challenge the Metagenes unlock. So stop freaking about metagenes anons. We are a long LONG way away from being able to even consider how to unlock that ability.>>3866862>>3866803Early game weakness is our brain. According to the QM we don't know how to regenerate our brain tissue perfectly without causing side effects this is, however, a temporary problem. Beyond that magic and reality bending powers will fuck us. Another major weakness is we literally run on biomass. An enemy can theoretically kill us by depleting our biomass reserves until we die.>>3866805Hilariously enough we already technically have the ability to do everything that Ralph can. It's just we haven't unlocked it yet. Meaning stealing his metagenes is literally USELESS for us.
>>3866956If we ever get ranged biokinesis, it will probably be centered in our own body or only applied to dead meat/non sentient beings, etc. I think this not only because Mercer has shown to be the kind of person whose morals won't allow killing, but also because a guy that can fleshbend your body like some creepy and Metal version of Aang is pretty much a horrible almost insta-death to any organic being in the DC universe, wich would make us the boring kind of OP and also an infamous and reviled monster. I could see Mercer limiting his use of ranged biokinesis to nonlethal takedowns (and that level of control over the gore cousin of telekinesis would take years at best. The human body is ). If we go for the "Magneto, but acting rationally and having in mind the human psiche, behaviour and politics when dealing with humans" path, we could even reserve it for life or death situations only in order to keep our good image (and I mean the "The Joker has put a nuke in Metropolis and has a detonator in his hand. Melt his arms an legs into a puddle" kind of situation).
>>3867339*The human body is delicate and we could easily fuck it up.
>>3866392Hearing the pain in her voice you desperately want to do something about it, but you bite your tongue, and you recall clearly the advice given you repeatedly by your Uncle Ed. Now your Uncle Ed was kind of the black sheep of the family. Uncle Ed hadn’t gone to college, he’d gone into construction.Uncle Ed wasn’t financially successful compared to the rest of the family, he could be rather vulgar, and he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.A lot of your extended family looked down on him, particularly your mother's relatives. Indeed you’d heard it said by some of your less charitable kin at family reunions that Uncle Ed wasn't good for much at all and as such it wasn’t a surprise he never amounted to anything. But no one, not even his most vocal detractors, could deny Uncle Ed was very very good at keeping his wife happy. Frankly most of your family seemed stupefied by his ability to maintain his marriage to his rather high maintenance wife. Now maybe the rest of the family didn't like Uncle Ed much but you’d been pretty close to him. He built your tree house when you were a kid, among other things, and he’d been a pretty regular visitor at your home growing up. When you skipped a few grades and went to high school he sat you down and had a talk with you, which you remember quite well as he went on to repeat it several times throughout that first year of high school, usually when he had been in his cups a bit. “Now you listen here Jimbo.” He told you “You’re at an age where you’re going to start noticing the girls around you, going to be around lots of girls about your age and a bit older who are starting to fill out and you’re going to be interested, and you’re going to want to get closer to them.” “You’re going to want to get closer to them, and you’re going to fuck up.” Uncle Ed would say while gesturing with a hand holding a beer bottle, then he’d take a pull and continue. “That’s fine, we all fuck up while we’re figuring things out. Women are hard. But you listen here Jimbo and I’m going to teach you a secret, and if you listen good you’re going to fuck up less.” “Women.” Your uncle had proclaimed solemnly “Don’t want you to fix shit for them. Unless they're specifically telling you to fix shit, like something around the house, in which case you should hop too and get fixing that shit. But otherwise if they start talking to you about something that’s all they want, is to talk about it. They aren’t coming to you for advice or a way to fix the problem, they just want to bitch about it. Women fucking love to bitch Jimbo, that’s why we call it bitching. “So you just let them bitch Jimbo, you let them bitch until they’ve run out of things to bitch about, and you nod and answer their questions, and then when it’s over they’ll be damn happy with you. Simple as that Jimbo. You remember that and you’ll do just fine even when you do fuck up.”
>>3867573This advice, like most advice given to you by your Uncle Ed, was crass and rather dubious. However the fact that despite your uncle’s temper and crass behavior, and despite your aunt being a veritable harpy, the two of them were still happily together after decades of marriage gave your uncle’s advice some weight, so you kept it in mind. Now certainly you would never describe Caitlin confiding in you as bitching, but you nevertheless see how your uncle’s advice applies in this situation. This is about Caitlin. This is about what she’s feeling, what she needs. It’s not about your need to help her, or how you feel. You need to let her say what she needs to say and get it off her chest. You need to let her talk and just listen, and hopefully that will be the secret to helping her through her emotional turmoil. Like your Uncle told you. At least you’re pretty sure that’s what your uncle meant once you’d parsed it out and put it in a less vulgar way. So you nod and you rub her back and you listen as she keeps talking. “And I can’t choose anything.” She continues as her voice gains a little more volume, a little mores spirit. “I don’t get to choose what I’m going to do or what I’m going to wear or what I’m going to eat. I just feel like I have no control over my life and I hate it.” “I’m always worried and feeling helpless and I don’t have any control” She says. “But I can’t show it, because I don’t want to worry the others and there’s nothing else I can do. So the only thing I can do to try and resist is grin and bear it and show they haven’t broken me, but it’s so hard James. It just keeps getting harder every day I’m here.”“And the longer I’m here the more I miss my Family” She continues to ramble. “And that just makes everything worse. I’ve never been away from them for so long and I’m sure they must be so incredibly worried and it hurts to think about how afraid they must be for me, but I can’t do anything about that either.” “I just-” She starts to say, and then cuts off. You hear sounds coming from the hallway, from the direction of the stairwell. Foot steps clicking against hard floors and the indistinct murmur of conversation. Larson’s footsteps don’t sound like that. Those sound like heels, and they are getting closer. Quickly. Your turn to look at the doorway just in time to see the door thrown open by a carefully manicured hand, and then the Headmistress steps through the doorway into the classroom.
>>3867584She pauses for a moment and looks around the classroom, until she sees the two of you. You know she's seen you, because she freezes, and then you see her look closely at you and Caitlin, scrutinizing you. You become very aware of your proximity, how your friend is practically on your lap and your faces are close together, and you know the Headmistress is aware of it as well. After a moment she steps further into the room and Larson comes in behind her. He looks at you and shoots you a grimace over her shoulder before mouthing something. “I’m sorry” You think, but you aren't really a lip reader. The headmistress then starts to move again and approaches you, and as she does so Caitlin presses herself tighter against you. You can feel your friend tremble slightly as she looks up at the woman walking towards you with a tight expression on her pale face. “Children would you care to explain what it is the two of you are doing?” The Headmistress asks you as she comes to a stop next to where you are sitting, towering over you with her arms crossed. >>3870170How’s it going, E-16? You doing ok?
>>3870763Other than writers block and a few distractions yeah. The dice speaking has kind of derailed my previous plans and I'm trying to figure out how to deal with it. Sorry, should have dropped a line letting you all know what's going on. I'm going to sleep on it and I should hopefully have a better idea of where to take things in the morning. My apologies for the delay. As mentioned tomorrow is a day off for me and I don't have other plans, so I'm planning on dedicating a good chunk of day to the quest, put in a good eight hours or so for a solid session and see if we can't get a good bit of progress before this thread dies and it's time to move on to the next thread. G'night everyone.
>>3871521The important part is that you're trying mate, no need to beat yourself up because of something like a writer's block. It's natural. Also, an idea for an upgrade of sorts. A backup for our major pump in the circulatory system, set up a thin layer of cardiac muscle tissue surrounding our veins and arteries as a sheath; hook a heavily insulated series of nerves (prevents the electrical impulses from wanting to follow a less resistive path) through the circulatory system following the natural flow of blood and slow down the speed of the impulses. This will emulate (hopefully) the peristaltic movements that smooth muscle can produce in our intestines. Now, we do need to find a way to trigger this system in case we get knocked out cold by some means or a heart too damaged to be reconstructed with our current skill in any reasonable scale of time. I propose hooking it up to the baroreceptors, this will enable it to respond faster in case of a drop in pressure (a damaged heart). And, since booting up cardiac muscle takes more effort than simply increasing its work, I propose this system to be an always-on one; albeit at a slower rate of 'pumps'. This will also contribute to our heart needing to do less work in general. A rise in activity and hormonal response (adrenalin and osteocalcin) can also increase their activity, seeing as they're still cardiac muscle. Now for another topic, E-16, how are our guts (intestines)?Do we still retain their length and volume or can we assume a more carnivorous set-up (smaller in both length and volume)?
>>3871727Do we poop alot more, or are our turds super dense? At what point can we crap dark matter like Nibbler from Futurama?
>>3871922could he like sweat out the stuff he dont use would he like dust or sweat it out like how possibly a symbiote does it. if i am being honest if we did it right we could excrete stuff into basic compounds basically coal, dust or ash and like whats basically stone due to us just leeching ALL the nutrients out of it our gut could work as a chemical separator.>>3871727i am loving all these upgrade ideas but i think having long intestines are more useful just to get All the nutrients out of food i would even suggest getting a gizzard to grind it up more possibly include something like biological grinding stones also really smart having the circulatory system pump on its own we could even include some spiracles and some frog skin so our skin cna breath on its own as a kind of life support kind of deal. we could replace our body hair with spiracles get the same function as fur but you also breath with it and if we want we can turn them into big quills that can suck in gas and liquids and possibly inject
>>3871521Just FYI monitor, threads on page 9. I would start a new thread with the next update if I were you.
I like to imagine that Roxy has a Jersey Accent.
>>3853666You know what the ultimate cure to waifufaggotry is? Just have everyone in the gang be one big happy relationship. Boom.
>>3871521Just finished reading all of the archive, and I'm glad I'll be here for live for the first time. Best quest I've read in a long time.
>>3872848Eh only works for harem fags and even then there will still be debates over who is superior. What works even better is to make characters into couples and anons won't try anything. Anyone who even TRIES to bring it up will get shouted down by everyone else. The only time I have ever seen them crash and burn so hard is if they are already in a happy fulfilling relationship.
>>3872953Nah, a harem usually has some main person at the center, usually the MC. U propose Polyamory. We date Cait, and Cait dates Tara, and Tara dates Ralph, and Ralph dates us, and we date Liz, and so on. Every one is equal, and boom. All waifufaggotry is impossible. It's just that I've never seen it done on /qst/ before.
>>3872958That's because it hasn't been. Never seen a poly quest. What I meant was two characters are happily together. Another two characters are happily together. Ect. Never seen a quest where its three or more people dating each other but isn't a harem. The problem is this requires a healthy balance of male and female characters otherwise you get called out for your faggotry. Anons REALLY don't handle the prospect of stealing someone else's partner very well. Waifufags die a horrible death because the characters are already taken.I have also noted that MCs already in a relationship works very well too. Not as well as everyone is already a couple tier but definitely up there. As instead of fighting over waifus they only bitch a bit about how the MC's partner is 'lacking' in their fetishes. Usually its less about them specifically and more off-topic about what is superior.
I just realized we haven't talked about James' regular appearance is. He is 14, and a guy, and that's it. Did we change at all pre/post TARing? Is a set face for James something we want to do?
>>3872991Well, bearing our power in mind>Handsome - good looking people are treated better, considered more trustworthy and all that shit>Big bearmode boi - our powers are dependent on the mass we have to work with and realistically we can only store so much by arbitrarilty increasing our densityAt the same time we're in a school - of sorts - and us looking like a cross between Tom Cruise and Hafthor Bjornsson would draw attention and cause all sorts of problems. We still want to look like a teenager, just one who's toward the upper limit of size and attractiveness.
>>3871521Rest in peace, sweet prince.
Alright, so obviously there wasn't a session yesterday, and I am sorry for that. I'll be honest I dont have an excuse, not a good one anyway. As it's been pointed out the thread is at page nine and it may be time to start up the next thread, and that makes sense. So when we update it'll be in a new thread, and there will be an update. I'm not going to be making the thread from my phone, because that's a pain in the ass, but I will make it tonight. Guaranteed.
>>3873396Thanks for letting us know!
>>3872991That, is an excellent point. And one I hadn't considered because I wasn't all that worried about physical appearance. That awkward moment when more than 50k words in and you dont know what your protagonist even looks like....I mean at this point your appearance is whatever James wants it to be, but establishing your baseline appearance is probably a good idea. We'll have to give that consideration.
>>3873405Thank you for being here and welcome to the quest. Hope you've enjoyed things so far and hope we can continue to enjoy things together going forward.
>>3872835I can see that. I was thinking Boston myself.
>>3873419Yeah, I think a lot of the reason people are just acting like we're literally a mini-Mercer is because we don't really have anything else to latch on to. I see all that Prototype concept art in the thread, and I think "that's James, and his power, alright,"
After we get out, I hope we have a cross country roadtrip with the group, maybe because HIVE is tracking us or whatever. It'd be maximum comfy.
>>3874667Oh ye of little faith.I'm working as we speak, just gimme a bit longer. I'll get it up.
>>3874683Oh shit, I guess I don't need to sleep tonight!
>>3873419In your defense, it literally doesn't matter with the MC's power. Personally, I always thought it would be up to whoever the MC ends up dating. As that would most affect what adjustments we would use. Otherwise, it comes down to disguise purposes. It's not like we are using an illusion or a typical shapeshifting power. We LITERALLY become that to our every cell level due to biomanipulation so it's not like you can easily make us normal again or knock us out to reveal our 'true form'. In that regard, our power is very extreme.
>>3874820Oh yeah, but with all the changing our character is going to, have a frame of reference is still useful for visualization. For an example, how tall are we? Our Big Guy form is Seven feet tall, and that's big, but if we're already kind of a big dude, it's not as impactful. I'm not saying we need to know James' exact measurements, but it couldn't hurt to get a general idea. I think he'd look cool with dreadlocks.
>>3874828I thought our frame of reference form aka base form was the human optimum. Our Big Guy form was the modification of it mostly in size until we can create better muscle tissue and armor.
If any of you are still awake, assuming you aren't in a different time zone than I am which makes it more reasonable for your to be awake, you're just as fucking retarded to stay up for this as I was to stay up to do it. New thread>>3874844>>3874844>>3874844I'm going to go pass out now.
