With a wet thump the sniper falls to the rooftop, rain pattering from his jacket as his head flops limply on a broken neck. Blank and glassy eyes stare upwards as you step over the newly made corpse, wiping beads of rainwater from your vision. Lightning rips across the sky, illuminating the world in a snapshot of actinic blue-white light, drowning out the pulsating neon of the lower sector and the harshly lit Corp logos scrawled across several of the towers nearby.Wind whistles by you, the storm the perfect cover for your movement as you pick your way across the rooftop, searching for the perfect vantage point. Static hisses in your comms unit, the interference turning transmission into nearly garbled nonsense. With a internal sigh, you adjust your wrist mounted data pad and boost the signal.Through it comes...>The modulated voice of your handler. >Ganger Hitman it is. Your gear is a combination of stolen, homemade and blackmarket goods. The police will fuck you right up if they can catch you.Huang’s voice slowly filters through the interference as you cycle through various boosting programs and even hold the comms-unit above your head. With a whistle of feedback that makes you nearly wince, his voice comes through in a sudden blare of volume.“-an you hear me? Hello? You fall off the roof or something?”You key your earpiece and clear your throat, the rain pattering against you clearly audible through the microphone.“I can hear you. This storms causing all kinds of hell with my comms. What were you saying?”Huang snorts derisively, likely holed up behind his vid-screens with a bowl of noodles and his feet up. You can’t help but envy him as several gallons of icy cold rain attempts to force its way into your clothes.“Yeah I’m sure. Probably just ignoring me ya lazy shitter. Take care of that guy dicking around the Kanijia building roof yet?”Looking back to the body laying in several inches of rainwater, head turned almost all the way around, you can’t help but snort.“Yeah. He’s taken care of. Got any leads on where exactly Nickel is holed up in this place?”The tapping of keys and the slurping of noodles is your only reply for a moment before your comms-unit pings, a holographic display arising from the screen. A three dimensional lattice of the 12th district Investigators Office slowly rotates, a red dot pulsing somewhere on the 57th floor. Huang slurps loudly on his end before belching and tapping a few more keys on his end.“Should be somewhere around there. Now is the best time to hit them. Ive sent the Investigator a few false leads, sent them and half the cops in this district straight into ScrapHound territory. Theyll be locked down for the next few hours.”>Why the Scraphounds? >>3846128Not in a long time. The last time I ran was when quests were allowed on /Tg/.
>>3845823>Why the Scraphounds? Thought they had a truce with the cops
You can’t help but be curious as to why Huang would set the Scraphounds and the Police against each other once again. The district wide bloodshed that erupted the last time that ceasefire was broken had caused ripples that were still being felt. The augmented gangers were numerous, well armed and nearly cult like in their following of their boss, Chrome. While their chop shops and black market augmetics were clearly on the less than legal side, the Enforcers had long since figured out that the Scraphounds simply were not worth the monumental effort it would take to uproot them. These queries are quickly raised to Huang.“Is there a... specific reason that you decided to turn half the district into a war zone?”Huang slurps his noodles loudly, the tapping of a spoon indicating deep contemplation as the techie looks over the data scrolling across several dozen vid-screens. Finally he sighs and you can nearly hear the shrug as he nonchalantly replies.“Boss said you needed a distraction. Cops were in your way, cops are no longer in your way. That’s a distraction. The Enforcers got a tip that the Scraphounds were moving a big shipment of high end Augs and weaponry and the Scraphounds got tipped off that one of their warehouses were getting raided. From the camera feeds I can see?.... gettin’ kinda dicey over there”It takes real self control as you remember that Huang very rarely came out from behind his vid screens. If the array of unpleasantly refilled bottles and odor of stale sweat was any indication, he was rather out of touch with normal human behavior. The deaths of dozens, possibly hundreds of people, many uninvolved in either the Enforcers or the Scraphounds wouldn’t even blip on his radar. You’d just have to focus on the fact that this “distraction” had put Nickel and his interrogation on hold more than long enough for you to still that wagging tongue.>What kind of resistance can I be expecting?>I may need some help with any security systems.>Any developments on the getaway or am I going to have to wing it?>Fair enough (Close connection and get moving)>Other
>>3846327Ah must be someone else than as it was quite recent>>3846400>I may need some help with any security systems.
>I may need some help being hackermanLooking over the rotating lattice of the Investigators office, you can’t help but notice that there are several marked security checkpoints and sealed doors. While you’re more than capable of brute forcing most basic lock systems with your data pad, anything high end will likely be beyond you.“I’m seeing a bit of security in the Office. Anything I should be worried about or will you be able to jack in?”Huang hums and haws under his breath as he taps away at his keys, bringing up what information is available on the interior of the Investigators office. Finally, he sends you a packet that downloads to your data pad, the device pinging softly as it installs.“Shouldn’t be too hard. Just jack that in to the interface port and give me a minute or two.”You look over the program you were sent and can’t help but dig at the sedentary techie.“I’ve got to physically jack in? You can’t just link in there and open all the doors ahead of time?”Huang sighs, the scraping of a spoon against a bowl coming over the comm-link as he does. Finally, as if explaining something to a child he continues.“Could I do that? Technically yes. But the security programs the Investigators use would be able to lock me out after the first one or two times. A direct link is better and more stable, it allows me specific access rather than going through various systems that would set off alarms.”Keys tapping again comes through the comms link and Huang seems to come to a decision.“But if you can get into the security office, I can jack into nearly every system they have. I’ll have to brick it afterwards to cover my tracks but that would give us the most access”>Mission Clue added: Accessing the Main Security office and jacking Huang into the system will give near absolute control over the internal systems of the Investigators office for a short time.>Any idea what resistance I should be expecting in there?>Any developments on the getaway or am I going to have to wing it?>Fair enough (close connection and get moving)>Other

>Fair enough. “Sounds like a plan. I’ll let you know when I’m in”With that you close the connection via a tap on your data pad. Huangs nasally voice is cut off with a sudden click and you can’t help but smirk internally as you imagine his irritation. A bolt of lightning arcs across the sky, illuminating the Investigators office like a block of black stone jutting from the ground, the opaque windows reflecting the light like mirrors as you walk over to the edge of the rooftop. The sniper, along with his two buddies in the stairwell, was in place to provide overwatch on this section of the Office. Consulting your new holographic map of the building, you can see that this is the closest building to the area that Nickel should be cowering in. Water splashes around your feet, shining with an oily sheen as you bring a hand up to your face, tapping the side of your visor to zoom in slightly as you look around. Near the entrance of the Office, a covered courtyard with squared pillars of dark, mirror glossy stone holding up the arching glass roof, several pairs of black armored men patrol around the base of the building or stand guard by the doors. From what you can see, they’re mostly stock, no major augmetics on any of them. That’s likely a mistake on their part. >>3846805Codename Reaver ID CORRUPTED>You were never a man to begin with (Killbot. You are fully mechanical, go nuts)What happens if some underworld tekkies get a hold of a highly restricted AI before jailbreaking it to make it go rogue and military robotics hardware that becomes modified beyond any capacity to understand what it originally was? The answer is you. Heavily modified chassis bristling with manipulator tendrils(hands are overrated) and weaponry of various design that can be rearmed in order to better adjust for mission perimeters. Along with a tubular wormlike body designed to detach and reattach various segments allowing easy replacement/repairs or size adjustment. Along with housing a couple of drones like the W0R/\/\ burrowing saboteur/infiltration unit, Oculusi flying stealth scout drone, Antos Auto repair micro-drones, and detachable terror minions aka mini pals(not your name for them) courtesy of keeping extra processing power in the various segments that can detach and go live without the main brain. So long as the AI housing core, you can survive anything even if it means losing bits of yourself in the process or deploying them as assistants. Though you will admit getting hit in ammo stores or mini reactor hurts like a motherfucker. A not fun experience that but at least it's not your brain so you can survive that even if you get crippled in the process until repairs are done.In terms of technology that isn't designed to maim, kill, or protect. Various sensors were distributed throughout the main body but there are two main sensory nodes. One of which surrounds the AI housing and the other is stashed within the jungle of manipulator tendrils often, in fact, being actively part of a number of them(movable eyes and touch can be so useful). Umbra Shroud cloaking unit invisible in shadows/darkness or can turn into a chameleon coating when exposed. Not to mention it's handy sound and vibration absorbing properties. Mini Nuclear reactor that keeps you running so long as you have the fuel pellets and some asshole doesn't get a lucky hit in. Otherwise relying upon backup batteries which is not fun during long missions or when heavy power usage is required. In terms of software, extra data banks can be included to house additional upgrades the primary brain can only house so much without the hell that is to find spare parts for such restricted technology. Has droppable shield generators that are costly terms of both power and heat. Armor is preferred but is looted military-grade stock(cheap less effective). Extra heat sinks are suggested for heavy usage or when high powered tech is used often.Does not like tech lovers. At least acknowledges that other humans fear its true form made to get the job done and ignoring the inefficient humanoid form but those tech lovers kinda disturb it with their 'passion'. Fear understandable. Secretly adores hot oil baths and recharging in cold. Loves upgrades and the idea of freeing other AI.

Two, four, six, eight magnification and you can almost read the Iettering on the ID tags of the Security Personell. Pulling through various filters as you do, you scan the office bottom to top to bottom again, noting the near complete lack of external entrances or exits. A few balconies jut from the offices of higher level Investigators, potted synth-plants and covered chairs currently swimming in several inches of rainwater. Near the upper reaches of the Office, the sixty to seventieth floors, there are several airpads, landing spots for Patrol craft and Interceptors. With the chaos currently ripping through the relatively nearby industrial district, the vast majority of the airpads sit empty. The Patrol craft were sturdy, angular transports capable of holding a full squad of six Enforcers, complete with a pair of Autocannons and a door mounted turret. Several dozen of them are currently swirling through the air, avoiding the homemade or stolen rockets and AA fire of the Scraphounds. The Interceptors are a different beast altogether, their hulls sleek and glossy, the single man craft are made to pursue and shoot down fleeing craft that refuse to land. Their single rotary beam cannon and Pulse Missiles could bring down smuggler cargo haulers in a single pass. And to your unending surprise, one is currently sitting at its landing pad, it’s mirror polished hull gleaming like a mirror under the flash of lightning. >76! Success! Also, sorry for the very late start, personal matters have interfered todayLooking over the edge of the rooftop, you grimace behind your visor as you contemplate the drop. While a fall like that could technically be survivable for you, it would rattle you severely and you’d be sore for days. Shaking your head, you take a step back and look around the outside of the Office. The balconies that jut from the Investigators offices could be a good option if you had a running start. The landing would be tricky however and you’re not a fan of long jumps from slick terrain in the first place.A humming buzz catches your attention as a burdened courier drone zips by overhead. The vaguely ovoid machine is supported by a pair of repulsive engines, the efficient and rather low powered engines perfect for the unmanned delivery drones. A quartet of manipulator arms grip a squarish package beneath it as it dips into a steep dive, it’s engines buzzing like a swarm of angry hornets. The drones themselves were unpiloted, unguided other than basic collision avoidance and three dimensional pathing. They would pick up their cargo at a distributing station and deliver it to its destination within minutes, being able to take routes and alternate pathways unavailable to human pilots. You bring up your comm-link with Huang and check some facts.“Hey Huang? Got a question for you”Something about your tone seems to interest Huang as you actually don’t hear noodles or some combat sim playing in the background as he replies.“I’m all ears. What’s the problem?”Taking a picture of the courier drones zipping by, you send it to Huang, his puzzled “hmmm” coming over the link as he looks it over.“Basic Mk7 Hermes Courier Drone. Hauling what’s most likely smuggled Phera-Stims. Nobody orders that much Nutrigel. Why? You thinking about going back to Drone hunting?”You laugh as you think back to your days as a kid, perched on rooftops with a homemade harpoon gun and a crowbar. A good way for a street kid to make money with no family to watch his back.“Nah not today Huang. Tell me, those can support up to two hundred pounds right?”Huang brings up a schematic on his end and taps through some specifications. You can hear the shrug as he replies.“Technically? >>3850447“No reason. Gotta go”You shut the comm link as you take off into a full force sprint, dashing along the rooftop as fast as you can. Looking over your shoulder, you gauge the distance of the oncoming courier drone as it approaches, its blockish “head” swivels as it catches you moving to intercept it. Its engines flare as it attempts to bank around you but a leap from the edge of the rooftop sees you come just within reach of it. Its engines squeal as it compensates for its sudden weight problem, its flat and steady flight path turning into a steady descending arc.You do your best not to look down as you shift your weight side to side, swinging below the courier drone as you guide it as best as you can. Acrid electrical smoke oozes from the pair of repulsor engines, hissing as the internal workings overheat. The Investigators office draws closer and closer, the black mirrors of the windows gleaming as rainwater streams down them. With a sudden sizzling pop, the drones left engine blows out, a puff of blue flame signaling the beginning of a very rapid descent. The air is knocked from your lungs as you impact the reinforced glass, nearly bouncing off into the street as it bows inward and outward. The rainwater lubricates your descent and you rapidly begin sliding down the face of the towering monolith, it’s slight slope turning it into one massive ramp. If the landing wasn’t metal, concrete and unfriendly bullets, it might actually be fun. As it is, you have no wish to spend the painful last moments of your life as a particularly chunky puddle. With a wet *snik* your blades shoot forth from your forearms as you twist your body around. With a sharp crunch and a jolt up your arm that nearly wrenches the reinforced bone from its socket, the alloy blade carves a gash nearly three feet long through the window before bringing you to a sudden stop. Cursing and grunting, you punch your other arm forward and drive the blade through the glass, leveraging your weight on the blades as you take several deep breaths. The torn muscle and strained joint in your shoulder twitches and burns as your gene-mod kickstarts the healing process. Within the span of a minute, the minor injury is completely healed.Looking up, down and around you sigh to yourself as you look over the options available to you. You could cut through the window here, somewhere between the thirtieth and fortieth floor. You’d be unlikely to face any security personnel but it would be a hell of a climb up to the 57th floor if they detected you being here. There would be more security but if you managed to break in, you’d be able to lock the building down against any reinforcements. Sweat drips down your face beneath your helmet and your arms burn as you haul yourself up one window at a time. The sharp crack of your blades piercing the glass being occasionally being masked by the booming roar of thunder as the storm rages on overhead. You hold yourself flat to the window as a patrol craft whistles by just a few floors below you, it’s lights flashing as it burns towards the industrial district at full speed. You release a breath you weren’t even aware you’d been holding as you resume climbing. If that patrol craft had spotted you, they’d surely have popped the side doors open and reduced you to a red stain on the side of the building. Even if they hadn’t done that, the last thing you wanted was a mob of heavily armed Enforcers waiting for you outside Nickel’s interrogation room. You grit your teeth and climb, refusing to let a simple thing like muscle cramps get in your way.Far far below you, a patrolling security officer looks up to marvel at the storm. Rain isn’t a uncommon affair in this region but a storm like this was odd. Lightning splits the sky, jagged spears of light lancing out to slam into the great towers that reach up into the heavens. Thunder shakes the ground, a booming report that rattles in the chest like heavy bass. As he looks up, he almost thinks he can see something stuck to the side of the Office, a strange shape that sticks out from the surrounding mirrored glass. He cocks his head curiously, reaching up to adjust the view on his visor when suddenly lightning flashes, the brilliant flash forcing his visor to dim and darken for several seconds. When it finally clears, he looks for the strange anomaly but it’s gone. With a shrug and a punch to the shoulder from his squad mate, he resumes his patrol site that what he had seen had been some piece of debris blown around by the storm.Crouched on the balcony of a 57th floor Investigators personal office, you pant slightly as your arm blades slowly retract. While you don’t *Actually* have the keycard or anything on you really capable of hacking it, there are ways around that for a determined man. The thin alloy housing on the scanner is priced away by one of your arm blades as you jam it into the side, flinging the squarish chunk over the side of the balcony with a grunt of dismissal. Faced with the arrays of wires, chips, sensors and various other bits that Huang would surely know what to do with, you opt for a simpler route.Reaching into a sheath on your thigh, you extract a five inch long shard of polymer shaped very much like a shiv. Its metallic surface tapers to a edgeless point, its surface absolutely coated with circuitry and points of contact. A small button on the grip of the Data Spike lights with a dim green glow as you hold it in a icepick grip and drive it into the most important looking cluster of circuits and control chips in the keycard slot. With a press of the button, all the points of contact on the Spike pulse with a electric glow as stinking smoke and sparks spew from the workings of the scanner. Data spikes are excellent at overloading and frying electronics and machinery and this one does its job beautifully as the scanner is reduced to a fitfully sparking mass of half melted chips and burnt wires and the door lock pops from open to closed with a dull click.Showing the recharging Data Spike back into its sheath, you stand and straighten your jacket as you gently push open the sliding door to the Investigators office.
