The Emperor is dead. His sons are dead. His daughters are dead. The royal line has broken and none are left who have legitimate claim. Advisors and Generals, Lords and Bankers, Sorcerers and Wisemen, all contest the ancient throne. All lay claim to the right to seize the Imperial city and establish their domain across the known world. All defend their claim as the only true one, eyes and minds darting, neither friendships nor ancient alliance remembered in their greed and fervor. And the land itself bleeds.Civil war has broken out amongst the remnants of the Caedian Empire. Brother turns on brother, friend turns on friend, villages burn and pastures are turned into graveyards as petty lords smash their hosts against each other. The roads have become dangerous, bandits and outlaws preying upon the peasants who flee the carnage, growing fat and cruel on excess and lack of retribution. The land burns and only with strength of Will can the flames of unrest be quenched.>You are....>A Landed Knight. You’ve fought on dozens of battlefields in your life, spilling blood from one end of the Caedian continent to the other. From the scorching Ahkasji Deserts to the frozen Svartel Mountains and beyond. From the green fields of Sekan to the golden beaches of the Dagger Isles, you’ve killed men and women, beasts and monsters in every way one can imagine. With your last employer lying dead in a ditch with a crossbow bolt through his throat after he rode ahead of his troops and wound up in a ambush, you’ve decided that your skills and ambition would be better served in your own interests. The ranks of black armored men, faceless behind their helms and presenting a wall of dark shields and heavy blades is enough to break most mobs. Their polearms are heavy, thick chopping blades, a near eight inch spike on the back perfectly suited for yanking cavalry from their horses. A stout, razor sharp spike juts forward from the heavy oak shaft, waiting to drive through armor and flesh.Behind them, march the double columns of the K’Voss Sharpshooters, their gleaming mail and stuffed leather armor covered by the green and yellow tunics they wear over it, cinched tight with a leather belt. At their hips sit war picks, maces and shortswords, broad shields across their backs. Each man carries a crossbow, it’s limbs and stock braced with strips of iron. The heavy, punch headed bolts they fire can bring down a charge of heavy cavalry and are accurate enough to pierce a mans eye from near a hundred yards.Around you ride the Line Breakers, the armored horse of your warband. Their steeds are sturdy and strong, fierce horses that bunch with muscle beneath their barding and lash out with hoof and tooth in battle. Their riders are much the same, men who strike with sword and mace and hammer, driving their foes before them with lance and spear. Not a man among the Line Breakers fears a wall of spears, their thunderous charge causing terror in the hearts of men.>You are marching through....>The forests and fields of Caedia, heart of the empire>The cliffs and bridges of the Iron Coast, salt spray heavy in the air>The soft sands of the Ahkasji desert, the sun beating down on your armor.>The gravel strewn paths of the Svartel Mountains, snowflakes blowing by.>The rolling meadows of Sekan, green grass stretching as far as a man can see.>Other

Men sing and joke, laughing to each other in the ranks as they recount tales of battles gone by, several telling stories of Lord Hykarths bloated corpse that had swollen in the summer head. The piglike man had died badly and his inglorious end was already being remembered in song. You’re sure the mans forces, led by his surprisingly even more incompetent cousin had been butchered as they marched against the entrenched forces defending a river crossing. You shake your head, shrugging as you take a hearty pull from a waterskin.Honestly it’s not your damn problem. You look over your shoulders, over the ranks of armored halberdiers, the blackshields resembling a block of black iron amidst the greenery. >The White DragonsYour silver-grey eyes narrow against the wind that sends the tasseled stalks of grass waving like ripples in a pond. Short cropped silver hair whips in the wind as you jerk your head back forward, digging your heels into the flanks of Tempest. The white stallion whinnies, his silver traced barding flashing in the light as he canters forward, the heavy destriers and warhorses of the LineBreakers coming behind The majestic creature. The metal socket holding the base of the long, broad bladed spear that you prefer in battle rattles against your thigh as the wind catches the blue and silver standard fastened to the spear. The intertwined silver drakes seem to twist and snap at one another, their claws and fangs outlined in threads of glittering silver. You grit your teeth as you think back to the days that banner hung from the walls of Sternberg Keep. The banner your father and brothers had carried into battle. You’re sure it had been on their shields as they died. Scowling, you look across the endless fields of grass and scraggly groups of trees and check the horizon. There are faint traces of smoke on the horizon to the northeast, light tufts that issue from cook fires and chimneys. To your west, a greasy plume of smoke twirls skyward, faint moving specks swirling through it. By the way the road is worn, if you continue due west you should come across a large village or a Outpost.>Make Camp here. Send out scouts to survey the area.>Head towards the black smoke. We’re headed that way. Should be some action or something interesting there either way.”You bark out over your shoulder, taking Tempest’s reins and spurring the beast on.Aegrin bellows out his great booming laughter, his grey speckled beard heaving as he does. His thick leather armor, equal parts furs and boiled leathers, seems as light as a feather on the brute. The bearlike man hefts the broad bladed Greataxe he has slung over his shoulder, marching at the front of the BlackShields.“Cmon you louts! Boss says there’s fightin’ t’be done! So let’s double time it an’ get there right quick!”With a hearty cheer, the Blackshields boots doubting, the tramp of their armored boots like a drum beat that even a short distance ahead still slams into your chest.Vahxil rests a hand on the slender, curved sword she wears at her hip, the Ahkasji woman clad in mail and cloth armor. Her wiry black hair is trimmed close to the scalp, almost down to the skin while her near charcoal colored skin is dotted with raised scars in a an intricate pattern. She raises her voice, bellowing out in a brassy tone“K’vossi! Your lady leads you! We head southwest! Quick march!”Your body rocks as Tempest trots beneath you, the stallions nostrils flaring as he takes notice of the tension and whinnies excitedly, his eyes rolling and ears twitching as his pace begins to devour the distance.>Can you roll me 1d20 for the circumstances of what you find? >1. Those you encounter are less than friendlyThe path you carve through the waving grass and flowering weeds of the Sekan plains with Tempests powerful form is quickly trampled down flat by the hooves, armored boot and feet of your warband. Wagon wheels and pack beasts crush the remaining growth into the dirt, leaving a flat, hard packed trail that extends for miles behind you. The twisting spire of inky black smoke twists skyward, growing larger and larger the closer you get. The smell of soot and ash, of burning flesh and violent death grows strong on the wind, the carrion birds raucous caws carrying on the wind. You laugh viciously, the White Dragon standard snapping in the wind as Tempest surges forward, plowing a path through the vegetation like a ship through water. Creating a gradual rise in the plain, you pull on the reins, pulling the stallion into a rearing twist as you take in the sight before you.“By the gods”You mutter, spitting into the dirt to clear the foulness from the air. Before you stretches a small battlefield, a village burning behind its makeshift fortifications. The village militia was butchered, cut down to the last man in a desperate struggle to hold back their attackers. Their bodies lie sprawled across the packed earth, ran through with spears, hacked apart or feathered with arrows. Within the village itself, the old, the young, the sick and infirm were herded together and butchered, their bodies piled together and burned, their livestock slaughtered for meat. The few remaining village women have found themselves a cruel fate, passed between the raiders that still carous around the destroyed village, drinking stolen ale and feasting on pilfered meat. They are hard men, brown of skin and black of hair, their hair twisted into thick braids that hang down their backs. They hold bows, long handled axes, curve bladed spears and curved slashing blades. Blackshields push through with assistance from Ursula. You hold up a clenched fist, the LineBreakers forming up into a line of armored horse that stretches out to either side of you. The tramp of armored boots intensifies as the Blackshields spread out into a broad wall of blades points and darkened steel, flipping the visors of their faceless helms down. Behind them, the double column of the K’Vossi take formation, planting their broad shields into the earth and resting their crossbows across the top, using them as both barricade and firing rest.“White Dragons!”You bellow, whipping your spear from its socket and twirling it overhead to point down into the village“These filthy horsemen have taken this village! Take it for me! Aegrin! Take your men down the center! LineBreakers! Smash through there by the market! Cut them off from their horses! Vahxil! Cut them down! Steel rain!”Your voice rings out like a war horn as you dig your heels into Tempest, the stallion rearing, hooves pawing at the air before he surges forward.Clouds of earth are tossed skyward as the LineBreakers follow you, their lances and Spears angling forward, mail and plate gleaming in the light as the sun breaks through the cloud of greasy smoke. Aegrin thumps his chest with a fist and roars like a beast, hefting his Greataxe high. Breaking into a stomping charge, the Blackshields advance, halberds leveled and eyes narrowed behind their visors. With evil hisses, like a swarm of angry hornets, the first rank of K’Vossi Fire, the heavy *snap* of their crossbows ringing out as a barrage of heavy bolts sings out. The ranging shot arcs overhead as you charge forward, thumping into the broken wooden spikes of the flimsy barricades and slamming into the charred wood of burnt houses. A few bandits yelp and curse in shock as bolts land amongst them, one dropping to his side with a howl as a bolt buries in his thigh. The second volley snaps out as the first rank stoops to reload their crossbows, a swarm of punch headed bolts arcing high into the sky. Like a hail of pointed iron, the bolts fall into the midst of the village, directly onto the scrambling raiders. With meaty thumps, the bolts slam into flesh and punch through bone, sending several of the horsemen falling back in twitching heaps or screaming in pain. Several of the men running for their horses topple, pawing weakly at bolts buried in their chests and bellies.>continued
>>3635168The LineBreakers surge around the village, their lances leveled at the darting raiders. Blades flash and hammers swing, horses whinnying in rage and fear as the LineBreakers attempt to run the men down. The raiders are nimble however, evading the LineBreakers with the skill of men born around horses and several make it to their mounts, riding quickly and drawing blades and nocking arrows. The majority of the bandits however are pinned into the village, unable to run to their horses through the circling ring of heavy horse. Those that try are trampled, impaled or knocked to the earth in twitching heaps from a warhammers swing. You ride with them, thrusting with your spear and wheeling Tempest about to batter and hem in the raider filth. Blood streaks the gleaming metal of your spear as you whip it crossways, slashing a mans cheek open and crushing his teeth in a spat of scarlet.“Don’t let them flee! Hold them in!”The raiders still left on foot draw their weapons, some climbing atop the still standing huts to fire bows into your force while others surge forward in a ragged mob, their curved blades and Spears gleaming in the light as they meet your Blackshields at the barricades smashed entryway. The bandits themselves are wild, nearly feral in their ferocity, slashing at the hafts of the Blackshields halberds and smashing the chopping blades away with rounded shields of horsehide. Blood spurts into the air as steel finds flesh, the thrusting points and chopping blades cutting in to the bandits flesh, their hide and leather garb no match for the veteran warriors. Even so, their fearlessness holds the entryway, some of your Blackshields falling back with barbed arrows driven into the gaps in their armor or blood trickling through gaps in torn mail. Aegrin leads from the front, smashing aside men and breaking spears and bone with his monstrous axe. Arrows jut from his leather armor, the points likely not even reaching his flesh as he carved into the horsemen.“Blackshields! Push forward! Cut them down!”You cry out, taking Tempest in a broad loop that lets him reach a full gallop. Swinging your shield around by its strap, you guide Tempest with your knees and level your spear, tucking the base of the shaft beneath your arm as you come in at a angle between two burnt homes, surging into the village center and smashing directly into the flank of the raider mob.>Roll me 1d20 for the damage of your flanking charge. He lurches back as you bash his jaw with your shield, the steel rim pulping the flesh and sending a spurt of blood and tooth fragments flying. You wheel Tempest about, his hooves kicking outward to pulp the skull of a unlucky raider, the limp corpse flopping to the earth with gray matter and fluid seeping from his torn scalp.“Blackshields! Curving blades leave gleaming gouges in their blackened armor, their dark shields studded with broken shafts as the bandit mob is pushed back. The barricade is left a charnel house of carnage, the savage horsemen broken like a wall of reeds before a siege stone as your armored troops push through them step by step. With a shout in their hoarse, guttural tongue, they fall back in a ragged stream, Spears and blades leveled against your force as they retreat into the village proper, taking a ring of spears and swords, the bowmen nocking arrows and taking potshots as your men advance slowly. One of them, a tall man with a ragged leather eyepatch and a curved blade in each hand shouts orders in their harsh language, clashing his blades together in a spray of sparks.>1 unit of Sekanian Raiders destroyed. 1 unit suffered heavy damage. They have fallen back behind the barricade to hold the interior of the village. Their leader has presented himself to lead their defense.>LineBreakers have encircled the village in a ring, circling to prevent any more raiders from making it to their horses.>Blackshields have formed a shield wall behind you and are ready to advance, having taken light injuries.>K’Vossi are still on the hill, preparing to fire on your order.>What do?

Raider counterattack fails.>LineBreakers. 15 = Great success in running down fleeing Raiders.Lifting your voice high, you call out in a echoing shout.“K’Vossi! Rain steel on them! Cut them down!”With a shout of assent that rolls forward like a thunderclap, the double serried ranks of K’vossi Sharpshooters drop to one knee, their crossbows resting on their broad shields. With a series of heavy snaps, their crossbows launch out the heavy punch headed bolts, the sheeting rain of steel angling down into the center of the village. The Sekanian Raiders howl in pain and sudden terrible fear as they are beset by a deluge of bolts that pierce through their shields and armor alike. Men fall studded with bolts, they topple screaming or spitting blood, they howl in fear and die with bolts embedded in their backs. The second volley comes a moment later as the raiders scramble for cover, ducking behind huts or overturned wagons. The few raiders who survived the first volley manage to evade the second with only a few minor injuries. Their leader is among them, the brute howling in rage as he and his surviving men charge in all directions, some fleeing but the majority charging forwards to either kill you or die in glory.Aegrin roars in fury, slamming the butt of his axe into the ground.“Blackshields! Lock together! Wall of blades!”With a rolling shout you can feel like a warhorn, the Blackshields slam together, leveling their halberds towards the onrushing raiders.“Oooo-Rah!!”With a resounding crash, the raiders smash into the shield wall, several being impaled on the thrusting points or others being hacked down by cleaving chops. Step by step, the Blackshields push back, spearing downward at the wounded and punching out with mailed fist and clubbing down with shields. The bodies pile around the base of their shield wall, a hazard to walk on for those still trying to batter through the shield wall. Amongst falling bolts and thrusting Spears, the screams of the wounded and the barbarian howls of the raiders, you ride.Tempest batters down a fleeing raider, his hooves smashing the mans spine as you ride him down. Your spear darts out, cutting through a bow wielding raiders throat in a double spraying arc of blood. With a twist and whirl of your spear, you bat away a slashing blow and drive the rim of your shield into the mans nose, crushing it flat before driving your spear point down into his chest, leaning on it and twisting to carve apart his heart. You are the White Dragon and these men are sheep before you.>Cont
>>3635713The raider leader staggers backwards, a crossbow bolt buried in his shoulder and thigh, slashes and sprays of blood across his chest and face as he levels his blades at the men surrounding him. His raiders are either slain or broken, those that survive fleeing only to be ran down or shot by your Sharpshooters. Blood and sweat drips from his face as he staggers, cursing in his hoarse tongue as he looks side to side. His eyes settle on you as you rein Tempest in, trotting forward, your men parting to allow you through. He licks his lips, spitting into the dust as he nods, a small smile on his face. “You! Metal woman! You are Chief?”>How do you respond?

>>3635980Both is good.
>Interrogate then Execute. The patrician choiceYou regard the barbarian coolly, the circle of blades around him growing closer, Vahxil and the K’Vossi marching forward to enter the village. Even a dim witted fool could see that a single hostile movement would result in being speared, cloven, shot and trampled so the Barbarian spits again onto the bloodied earth and lowers his blades. You level your spear towards him and speak, your voice carrying across the impromptu battlefield.“Yes, Barbarian. I am in command here. And as the one in command...”You turn to regard Aegrin, the hulking warrior spattered in blood but grinning heavily“Seize him. Bind him and get what he knows out of him. Afterwards, put his head on a pike with the rest of them.”Aegrin smirks, nodding once before stepping forward.“As y’wish Captain. Oi! Horsefucker!”The raider chief turns towards Aegrin only to be knocked sprawling by the brutes ham sized fist, blood spewing from his mouth before a trio of Blackshields jump on him, wresting away his weapons and binding his limbs with strips of leather and gagging him with a dirty rag. They drag him off towards one of the huts to interrogate as Aegrin and Vahxil step forward, the men cheering after your sudden and brutal victory.“Was a good fight Captain. These scum ‘ere? *ptew*”He spits onto one of the corpses“This is good work”Vahxil nods, drumming her fingers on the hilt of her saber. Her black eyes flicker across the carnage, likely thinking of ways to improve the Sharpshooters accuracy through further drills.“Aye Captain. These Horsemen, they are a plague in Sekan and the northern reaches of Ahkasji.”>Take a brief rest to recuperate and allow the wounded to get treated>Oversee the interrogation of the prisoner>send out scouts to survey the area>Loot the village and search for survivors>Other
>>3636201>Take a brief rest to recuperate and allow the wounded to get treated>Oversee the interrogation of the prisoner>send out scouts to survey the area>Loot the village and search for survivorsI honestly don't see why we can't do both
>>3636201All of the above? If we rest here for a moment, we can also look around the village and take any valuables. Some of our officers can deal with the prisoners, and we can send out scouts and wait for their return.
>>3636221I don't see why we should settle for two when we can do a quad of them.....
>>3636201>Set camp nearby to care for our wounded>Supervise the looting of the town>Send scouts>Make sure the raider's horses don't run away. They should be quite valuable.

Several make crude jokes and comments, and even more laugh at them; a sign of good morrale among even those who were wounded. Turning back to Aegrin and Vahxil, you know exactly what you want them to do, “Aegrin, go and begin interrogating the chief. I will be with you shortly.”The hulking brute of a man, still splattered in blood and glory, grins as he walks off, a swagger in his step that only comes after a decisive victory like this one.You pay him no more mind as you turn to your other ‘officer’, “Vahxil, I want you to take half of the K’Vossi and scout out the surrounding area.”“Aye Captain,” With a quick nod, the dark haired woman strides off, gathering those who she knows have sharp eyes and quiet feet. You waste no further time in raising your voice, “Listen up, White Dragons! Wounded are on rest until the doc clears you, no exceptions! Everyone else I want this village swept and secured! Dismissed!”You’ll personally check later to make sure your orders are followed, but for now you’ll be joining Aegrin.> Continued
>>3657578Your presence is almost not necessary, as according to one of the Blackshields the raider chief’s been singing since he woke up in Aegrin’s company. With most of the village destroyed or on fire, this interrogation is occurring in a back alley. Still, there’s no way for the chief to make a break for it, as he’s completely boxed in against the crumbling stone wall. You watch for a minute as Aegrin punches the man in the stomach, eliciting a pained groan and a few mumbled words. When he notices your presence, Aegrin walks over a motions you around the corner, his usual grin fading slightly as he speaks up, “The good news, Captain, is that the horsefucker’s in a talking mood and that’s about it. Claims that his group was part of a larger one and that they’re occupying one of the major towns, called Oudenselt, to the West. Also claims that there’s an army of ‘em there and that we’ll be made into mincemeat if we get near but eh,” The hulking man shrugs, “Could be making shit up.”You nod, considering your options:>Anything specific you wish to ask the chief about? (Write-in)>Have Aegrin put his head on a spike
>>3657588>Anything specific you wish to ask the chief about? (Write-in)Who's the leader of this large horde? Why did they detach from the main horde to raid this village? You should consider making a new thread since most people have taken it for dead.
